"Fun" sidestory: a friend of mine has the same car and had the same issue (P0171, nothing noticeable wrong, ran perfect). His was still in warranty... They replaced MAF sensor, lambda sensor, EGR valve... Before they found out it was the EVAP purge valve
Imagine if we had to spend to get all those random things replaced, not fixing the problem...

We hade an Tiguan last year as loaner for our Passat and that suv is like a Passat but in suv body. And it felt worse in every way specially the fuel consumption it hade the exact same engine and awd system as our passat but it consumed around 7,5-8l per 100km compared to our passat witch have an average consumption of like 4,5-5,5l per 100km.

I do think a V12 is smoother as it's basically 2 I6's at an angle, and and I6 is also very smooth
