TFSI so gasoline

#

I think the European SQ5 was a diesel back then

#

๐Ÿคฎ

#

Coupe SUV

#

It's still a TDI here

#

Which is very odd as diesels have basically disappeared here

#

Sales went from 50% to 5% over the last few years ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

2017-2018 they made is a TFSI, 2019- it's a TDI again

Yup

Friend of mine has a Tiguan.... Always found he had a weird spec (2.0 TSI 4Motion, basically full options but without climate control lol), last time I wrote in it I thought it rode bad so he had it checked out.... Turns out it's a US import which was total loss twice KEKW But they changed the bumpers, sat nav, gauges etc to EU spec. Found some pics of it being suctioned back in 2014 as a write off KEKW

#

So, always buy a rapport on US import cars KEKW

fathom socket
#

I was thinking if shorting instead of using a relay could be a good idea

#

I wanna basically force run the auxilary fan all the time at full speed

fathom socket
#

where even is the 307 cooling control relays

stoic ledge
fathom socket
#

it's a 2003 year model

stoic ledge
#

Yes Phase 1

fathom socket
#

#

I'll go and checc

stoic ledge
fathom socket
#

Me confused

#

I need force run radiator fan

stoic ledge
#

Should be this one

#

But that's the fuse ofco, not the relay?

fathom socket
#

A fuse

#

I need relay

#

Or a wire i can force it on

civic spoke
#

I just see fuses there???

fathom socket
#

And I found a few blown fuses

#

But wtf does the 16th fuse do

stoic ledge
#

I'm not really seeing any relays on there lol

fathom socket
#

It still has factory spares lol

civic spoke
#

There's the ones related to the fans.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah but just fuses... Maybe there's no actual relay just ECU without relay

fathom socket
#

But it's a fricking fuse

fathom socket
#

Oh fuck me

stoic ledge
#

Nope, except running new wires immediately to the battery lol

fathom socket
#

The relay is on the fan it self

stoic ledge
#

Oh

fathom socket
#

That means I have to remove the bumper to access the relay

stoic ledge
#

Best design

#

But is the relay actually working? Maybe that's the problem

#

Is the fan on when it's warm?

fathom socket
#

The fan turns on but when it's like

#

It does not overheat when ac is on, but it does the same thing where it turns on too late

#

Faulty temp sensor?

charred depot
#

can you not just fuck around with the cables going to the temperature switch

civic spoke
#

Turning the AC on, and setting the fan to MAX should force the fan to turn on.

charred depot
#

that car should have a temperature switch and temperature sensor

fathom socket
#

This car is already giving me more issues than the 5 owner focus i had

#

So I guess I need to take wires from the fan it self and force run them

charred depot
#

Im not sure if your car has a temperature switch or not, worth looking for that first

fathom socket
#

I think it has a sensor

charred depot
#

thought it might have both

fathom socket
#

Screw it. I'll call a mechanic to replace it

#

This car has too much electronics

charred depot

I'm trying to think about what would cause the overheating issue.

civic spoke
#

Fun

fathom socket
#

I would need a lift or take off the bumper

charred depot

take the plate off and drill a big hole :^)

#

apparently your car has a "fan control unit"

#

what utter shite just have it full speed or nothin ๐Ÿ˜ค

#

who needs such precise control

charred depot
#

may be that part which is your issue, not too expensive new as they are produced by cheapo companies which probably means they break often to warrant them spinning up shitty mass production

#

#

So I guess that was the fuse?

stoic ledge
#

Oeh yours has power folding mirrors

#

We didn't have that PogChomp

#

Less stuff on a Peugeot to break is a good thing ๐Ÿ˜›

fathom socket
#

I guess I need to ask someone to not park in front of my car

fathom socket
#

I find it strange it had individual fuse

stoic ledge
#

But the right mirror did fold?

#

Ah

#

Nice

fathom socket
#

it did

stoic ledge
#

Cool

#

Weird for them to be on a different fuse yes

#

Bit nice they work now

fathom socket
#

I guess I'll "downgrade" to a ford focus

timber oar
#

I enjoy my manual adjust mirrors

fathom socket
#

I don't really. Especially when you share a car with multiple people

#

aka Very short person and a veyr tall one

stoic ledge
#

I'm the only one driving my car so I never adjust them, but I still want power adjustment. Without just looks so cheap KEKW

#

Very hard to find a slightly modern car larger than the smallest stuff (Aygo etc) without power mirrors

stoic ledge
fathom socket
#

I'll keep it for at least 1 year

stoic ledge
#

Ah because you said you'll "downgrade"

#

Thought you were getting something new ๐Ÿ˜›

fathom socket
#

but later IDK if it's gonna be worth more to "export" that car or just buy a new one

#

I'm trying to get better life in Italy

stoic ledge
#

Then you can buy Fiat's PogChomp

fathom socket
#

but Italian fiats are crap

#

at least that's someone that got fixed their italian Fiat 600 got part replaced with one manufactured in Poland

#

the only fiat I like it's not what I'm looking for.

stoic ledge
fathom socket

stoic ledge

stoic ledge
fathom socket
#

I think if I didn't have LPG installation, my focus would still run

#

but rebuilding the engine would cost me more than I bought my 307 for

stoic ledge

stoic ledge
fathom socket

apparentyl it runs good too

OOF

#

In a 307?

#

I'm still happy with my LPG Corsa choice, especially with the current fuel prices

keen void
# chilly hatch is it possible to replace spark plugs manually

no it's a purely automated process /s
in all seriousness, it's not hard to do yourself. They may be hard to access, depending on your car. If it's fairly recent, there's usually a mess of plastic crap and wires in the way. If it's a Subaru, the wheel wells tend to be in the way.

chilly hatch

But we are selling this car for an ev soon

timber oar

#

I think you're most likely closer to equator than me

civic spoke
#

I never understood while UK always used their 8x4 configuration with the twin steerable front axles.

civic spoke
#

Here we mainly just use tridem layout. 8x4*4. Single steerable front axle, but with the last axle also being steerable.

#

Turning circle is a lot tighter with a tridem.

#

I guess the weight distribution favors the normal 8x4 layout a bit. Since you're using 2x8 ton axles in the front. And can take 19 tonnes on the rear two axles.

#

Where as the allowable weight over the tridem is 24 tonnes. And then if you want any leeway, then you need a 9/10 tonne front axle. Which you really do want on a tridem.

mx5 1.8's are almost identical internally to the ford escort cosworth rs

honestly, idk why everyone is so hyped about the sr20, even tho the mx5 bp takes more boost both stock and forged lol

and has less issues

holds about 250-300whp stock and around 550-600whp with forged rods, pistons and crank caps

But you should be able to upgrade, idk what the costs are though

eager grove
#

Thanks @stoic ledge ! Volvo looks nice but its screen looks like itโ€™s mounted too lowโ€” I think it would be distracting to use it for directions

#

Mondeo could be a good option though. I hate the old ford ten thousand button infotainment, but it looks like thatโ€™s gone by 2015

stoic ledge
#

Let mee see if I can find it

stoic ledge
#

The parts can be found for 400-600GBP with or without gps navigation

civic spoke
eager grove
#

I donโ€™t want something that can get smashed and grabbed, and suction cup mounts fall off constantly

#

And Iโ€™m sick of using my phone

#

I just want to be able to use Google maps and listen to my audiobooks through the car speakers

stoic ledge
eager grove
#

I feel like a lot of cars fulfill most of my requirements but none of them do it all

stoic ledge
#

Yup

#

It's a retractable screen

eager grove
#

The Golf estates are too slow (120hp) or too expensive

#

Arteon too expensive. Canโ€™t get much of a Passat at that price point, though there are a couple of high mileage ones

#

The Touran of that gen has its screen mounted too low

stoic ledge
#

I'd rather get the Mondeo 2.0 EcoBoost tho ๐Ÿ˜› But, it's ~500-1000GBP for a Sync 3 retrofit

#

Or you need to get a 2017 which is slower and/or more expensive

eager grove
#

Like the Mondeo

stoic ledge
#

Mondeo is way larger than a 3er/C/A4 ๐Ÿ˜›

#

But yeah that's with modern cars

eager grove
#

Yeah, I want a big boot but not necessarily a gigantic carโ€”the v70 gives you enough boot that itโ€™s worth it, and since itโ€™s cheaper itโ€™s presumably more economical to buy and then retrofit

stoic ledge
#

Yeah for the Volvo you can go 2 ways: create something yourself with a RPi or get a known system installed. I do know they exist for those Volvo's, but probably not cheap

#

But you do have a 5-cyl turbo then

#

Which is very noice

charred depot
#

just get a car which takes a double din unit natively or has a fascia adapter

eager grove
#

I donโ€™t know any of those words

charred depot
#

din is a standard radio size, double din is twice that

#

this is a fascia

stoic ledge
#

Yeah but that's definitely older cars

charred depot
#

yeah but newer stuff has fascias to allow it

#

like this is a mazda 2 stock interior that fascia allows fitting of a standard kwality touchscreen unit

stoic ledge
#

Not always, many cars can loose quite a lot of functions without the factory radio

Canโ€™t find anything that looks legit aftermarket for that Volvo

charred depot
#

should be a fascia for it

#

then its just a kwality double din unit varying on your willingness to spend

stoic ledge
#

I know it exists

eager grove
#

This Mondeo looks reasonably good as long as the cat s repair has been done properly

civic spoke
#

I still want to get some proper bluetooth in my car.

charred depot
#

meh they cat S alot of stuff for but a scratchTM

#

think theres a fairly noticeable paint different to the front

eager grove
#

The main thing that annoys me about the Mondeo is the boot tho

#

Like itโ€™s a gigantic car with a boot thatโ€™s really not all that big

stoic ledge
#

I like the red

charred depot
#

atleast the opening is decent

#

hate these newer cars with tiny boot openings

civic spoke
#

What decent options is there for adding bluetooth to an E46?

stoic ledge
#

10k + 1k for Sync3 gets you a nice car

charred depot
#

keeping the original stereo?

stoic ledge
eager grove
#

Hella expensive. Seems a bit ridiculous to spend โ…› of a carโ€™s value on a new infotainment

#

Chances are itโ€™ll be at least ยฃ250 to install

stoic ledge
#

No the one I had in mind incorporates the screen on the top of the dash, and has a small rotary dial by the shifter to control it

eager grove
#

And a 810L boot!

#

Ermmmmm @stoic ledge auto trader says ยฃ610/year in tax!! Is that right??

stoic ledge
#

Idk xD

#

Could be, idk how the UK system works xD

#

Would be more here so I guess it can be correct

#

Also not the system I had in mind, but looks nice

eager grove
stoic ledge
#

But... 5-cyl

#

Very low mileage tho

#

But like I said, personally I'd go for the Mondeo, and retrofit AA/ACP with Sync3 for ~1k GBP

#

That Passat would also need a different headunit for AA/ACP

eager grove
#

Yeah it would, but it would be cheaper and easier to do

#

This oneโ€™s a bit outta price range and would still need a new head unit I think, but this I think is ideal

stoic ledge
#

Yeah wouldn't recommend that gen 1.4TSI + DSG

#
  • needs a new headunit yes
#

Well equipped tho

eager grove
#

Whatโ€™s wrong with the engine/gearbox?

stoic ledge
#

That's the 1.4 TSI with the timing chain issues, and the DSG with a dry clutch. Both aren't the pinnacle of reliability

#

Ah that's even the turbo + supercharged one as it's 160hp? That's even worse

#

Great drivetrain on paper, worse one for your wallet

dusk ocean

Over the kast few years, the average car age went up by over a year here

#

That's quite a large increase

#

The average car is over 11 years old here

#

So yeah, new EV's are out of range for most

dusk ocean
#

Anyone remember cash for clunkers in the US

stoic ledge
#

Nope

dusk ocean
#

The Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS), colloquially known as "cash for clunkers", was a $3 billion U.S. federal scrappage program intended to provide economic incentives to U.S. residents to purchase a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle when trading in a less fuel-efficient vehicle. The program was promoted as a post-recession stimulus program to...

civic spoke

dusk ocean

The US was over-paying its citizens to turn in (usually) working vehicles for credit toward new cars

stoic ledge

carmine summit

I'd take an electric Volkswagen or Ford over a Tesla any day

dusk ocean

stoic ledge
dusk ocean
#

MPG/efficiency no different

#

And we mined more crap out of the ground to make the new cars

stoic ledge

dusk ocean

#
A disabled and marked "Cash for Clunker" Toyota Previa trade-in
"Death Row" of traded in SUVS and trucks under Cash for Clunkers
Dodge Caravan turned in for Cash for Clunkers (note paper placard on dash)

To ensure that vehicles traded-in under "cash for clunkers" will not be resold by dealers, the program outlines a procedure for destructively disabling the engine (and thus also precluding the possibility that any mechanical engine components might be salvaged to be used in the repair of any other vehicles): the motor oil is drained and replaced with a sodium silicate solution, then the engine is started and run until the solution, becoming glass-like when heated, causes engine internal bearings to abrade and ultimately seize.```
#

So we paid mechanics to drain oil in bulk, fill it with sodium silicate, ruin completely fine engines, and then .... PRESUMABLY they were melted down but I'd love to see those statistics
