rs200 nice
i figured as much
the hoonigan one is insane
https://www.hoonigan.com/On today's episode of Daily Transmission, HHIC Ken Block brings his street-registered Ford to the Donut Garage. This 1986 RS200 Evolution is more than your average daily driver. Find out why our Mr. Block calls it his favorite car of all time.

Lol
how were the bearings
Imagine you encounter this sign
You can't drive heavy vehicles except everywhere
have to stop and fucking analyse it
I think it says "No trucks to this or that street"?
From what I can see, it basically says, "You won't reach..."
They could have just said no outlet, lol
When a lower car is tailgating you suprise them by performing the ultimate sacrifice of not braking for a large speed bump
it's exceptions, and that's basically everyhwere
I wouldn't know. I can't read... I think it's Polish?
lmfao, would have to stop for 5 minutes just to read through that 😂
being foreign, you'd also have to take additional 10 minutes to translate and make sure you understood the translations properly rofl
We have some signs that go like "Trucks not allowed for pass-through". Essentially using a smaller road as a shortcut.

I got really into rally a couple years ago and this is one of my favorite rally cars and my 4th favorite Group B car
My favorite one is Walter Rohrl's Quattro
my favorite rally car is Colin McRae's Subaru
is this a problem?
means the rubber softener has ran out. ur grip will suck but should pass inspection
ic thanks
Is that why I keep spinning out lol?
Well that was a year ago when I had those tires
When I accelerate I mean
mine at time of replacement
u guys must be US. I would have gotten pulled over with those tires lol
UK passed MOT a few months before in pretty much the same state
photo is of nsf
they probably should bring in the 10 year age limit to passenger cars, the wet stopping distance was a tad long
Yeah
that isnt considered worn tho just old. we have a minimum of 1.2mm for summer tires and 4mm for winter tires but officers are rather free to mess u up if u give them a good reason.
his photos got more tread than mine heh
This was on i64 in Virginia 2 or 3 years ago. I was driving back home from Williamsburg on that interstate and I get this notification on my phone saying traffic jam 2 miles behind me. I got so lucky.
tailgate harder much
so tailgating : )
Ice on bridges
Yep
They follow to close and one of them overreacted on the steering wheel while sliding on ice. I'm glad I wasn't caught up in it.
No deaths just 13 people injured
Yep
Yeah
That made me not go there during winter
Because there's like 9 bridges that can be covered in black ice
I actually go to Busch gardens every weekend on that interstate it gives me the creeps
would a 2.5L car need 2 exhausts or one
well it only needs one to run
but in some cases it could become faster with 2 exhausts
If it only has one bank then two exhausts pipes would not make much sense
This happens in new delhi every year
Due to fog
And people still going like 80 kmph
Over edit ?
$2600
20k miles
And a week later an accid3nt
Thinking of getting a non restrictive intake
Gas prices
Not for power
hack saw
so my dad's Subaru Forester is 2.5L and we think they gave us a 2.0L model
Check the engine, should have the code somewhere on a plate or something
What year?
actually a good idea
got it like December, idk 2021 or 2022
Ah so newer model
I belive the newer foresters use the FB 25 (2.5 liter) and the FB20 (2.0 liter)
And usually there is a plate on the engine somewhere with that printed on it
Not too knowledgeable on the newer subaru engines so idk how you would yell em apart by just looking at one
our Engine doesn't have a cover that says "Subaru" 2.0L or smth
Isn't on a cover
Usually is on a metal tag stamp thing
Kind of like this
Also pretty sure that VIN and plate # might have that info
The small window in the windshield is the VIN number.
Thats probably vin
Easiest way to ident engine is to just look for the code on the block somewhere (unless subaru stopped stamping it which I doubt)
Other times there is often a label of sorts in the engine bay somewhere about what engine it is.
Yeah I know on old outbacks it was on the driver's side strut tower
Looking at that photo though I can't see it there
Check the vin
Yeah decoding the vin is the only way to go
But idk where you're from, but I expect the US. And then there's only a 2.5L engine option for every trim
So I expect it has the 2.5L
what do I do with the VIN
why is the check code 5 not 1?
You can use the VIN to decode everything about the vehicle. It will let you know packages, add one, etc. Basically everything.
You sure that VIN is correct?
Installing 230v 300/600w inverter was such a blessing in my car
I finally can charge devices that only have 230v chargers, and also play on console or something in back seat when I'm waiting .
How to tell if the owner isn't in the US.
VIN is vehicle identification number, its pretty much just a code assigned to your car so you could see stuff like trim level, engine. Etc
Their Subaru VIN is not American.
O
Foresters are the Japan plant I thought
Outbacks are the indiana plant only I know
Legacy isn't us exclusive I thought
It is now.
Ah I see
And chances are it'll be discontinued here as well soon. It's not a top seller to put it lightly.
Yeah the outback sells a lot more but they do share a platform I guess
All subarus apart from the BRZ apparently share a platform now.
Oh well, anything subaru post-CVTifying I don't care too much for tbh
Subaru's success has led to some issues, yes.
They went to trying to cater to the average car consumer
Which is good for business I guess
But they've just made the cars worse by doing that I think
Their cars weren't exactly brilliant in a niche.
20 years ago they could get away with doing AWD crossovers. Now everyone does it.
EJs with exploding head gaskets, glass transmission 5 speed WRXs, lower fuel economy, and other issues associated with AWD
European Foresters are 2.0 exclusive, not even an 2.5 option
Also, Foresters start here at ~60k USD so nobody buys them
Subaru could probably get more out of less if they had a more competent transmission.
I'm sure the chain CVT they have is robust, but an 8 speed?
I wish they offered a manual
I mean, I quite like the Levorg (basically Impreza Wagon), 1.6 Turbo is fine, but only offered with a CVT which is
The Solterra is probably going to triple the European Subaru sales

CVTs have a bad rep because of nissan
and tbh i’ve been driving a hybrid with a CVT and it’s kinda annoying
Imo CVTs have a bad rep for more reasons then the spontaneously exploding Nissan CVTs
Maintenence is unnecessarily hard, performance is not there, more prone to issues, etc.
If only they didn't try to simulate actual gears.
Yeah
I'm glad I don't have a cvt and I don't have an annoying tiny engine
And I'm fine with the fuel economy hit from proper awd and an older transmission
CVT's already had a bad name before Nissan
^ im surprised the one in my mom's altima never had a single issue in almost 90k miles
In old DAF's (and rebadged as Volvo's later) they were considered cars for old peoples
Manual ftw
Don't mind CVTs, just not keen on long term ownership
yes
Hmm online decoders don't take it, but they probably don't know the checksum for a 2022
But:
jf2sk9kl5ng077278
JF2 = Japan Fuji Heavy Industries MPV
S = Forester
K = Body Style (so gen of Forester, I'm sure it's correct)
9 = Engine, 2500cc 4WD
K = Model/Trim (idk which one, Limited, R, Nav, H/K? That was accurate in 2015)
L = Weight class
5 = Checksum
N = Model year 2022
G = Transmission (Full-time AWD CVT)
077278 = production sequence
So it's a 2.5L
If you still don't believe it, there is a stamping on the engine.
Which will give you the info.
I still need to build a wiring harness but at least part of my engine bay is detailed
My mans gonna go out on his own terms, on fire, upside down, at 150mph.
"I want to go peacefully like grandpa, in his sleep... not like his passengers screaming"
This might be the most american photo ive seen
He might be 120 but also crash into a store with 120 👀
He seriously looks like he should stay far away from driving, but once you get your license nobody will stop you 👀
The more and more I see stuff like this, the more and more I believe if you need a special license to drive semi, you should need a special license to drive a car with 250+ hp.
Fr man
Most people can't handle the 150 in their civics
That gt is my dream car
Fr?
Did you see Jeremy Clarkson driving one through New York?
I honestly miss my SRT8 300c
I have not
Grand Tour season 2, Jeremy drove the car from New York to the falls.
Oh neat
Hydrogen car or electric car?
tbh i prefer hydrogen
electric contains batteries that are incredibly toxic and produces huge amounts of emissions mining the rare earth metals
No that’s silly
whereas infrastructure already exists for hydrogen cars as they can just replace petrol
250hp is basically nothing, it would make more sense to require a special license to drive a 400hp car
Electric because hydrogen has low energy density and we don't have the infrastructure to support it
We don't really have the infrastructure for either but hydrogen would take more
If that happened then you'd need a special license to drive a truck or suv
We have infrastructure becuz it can be transported just like petrol and does. It doesn't need extra infrastructure like electric does. Energy density is also quite high as the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen is highly exothermic, meaning it will produce a lot of energy
Batteries on the other hand are highly toxic and contribute to e-waste as they are unusable after 5 years
Lol well that's also just not true
Batteries can perfectly be recycled. The problem now is that reusing/recycling batteries is more expensive than just creating new once. That needs to be addressed.
Also, with proper battery management systems, batteries can have a long life. In the future, we'll need independent but certified repair companies to fix potential broken cells
Using current petrol stations for hydrogen is impossible as they work 100% different. Also, you can't transport hydrogen like you can fossil fuels
Hydrogen also has the downside that it's crazy inefficient compared to just electricity (~50%). And to be green hydrogen, it has to be created from green electricity.
Using left-over electricity, and turning it into hydrogen is a great way of doing so
Don't forget hydrogen fuel cells also use, for now, very rare metals.
Both will have a future, like diesel and petrol co-existing now. Hydrogen like diesel, BEV as petrol (give or take)
No most suv have the same hp as most cars today
But there is a huge difference between the Mazda to I drive and the 500hp srt8
And I would be more than willing to take the extra licensing for it
I had to take extra training for my class 3, with airbrakes so I don't see an issue
Battery recycling does exist but what we can recycle vs what we do recycle is not even a rounding error in %
Right now we have warehouses full of lithium ion batteries leaking toxic materials and or threatening to be giant bombs
Another issue is how the electricity is actually produced, which is a flaw of both methods. The best way around this is to just focus attention towards fusion so that every car has a tiny fusion reactor inside it, and so electric, hydrogen and all other methods will be obsolete
Look up thermal runaway and just imagine that inside a massive warehouse
Yeah, leads to unstoppable chemical fires
Well yeah but that's what I said, it can be recycled, they just won't do it currently as there's no motivation to do so
Lithium-ion batteries can be recycled for like 96%
that 4% will add up very quickly if we end up replacing all cars with electric cars
which is the way we're going, especially in the UK
So hydrogen cars are 100% recyclable? 🙃
no
neither is really sustainable
fusion is the solution to all our problems with energy and transport
And apparently current it's possible to recycle ~96%, maybe it's possible to recycle 100% in the future
Electric cars are so bad for the earth. I wish people realized this
Do you want to put fusion reactors in to cars?
yeah

much safer than combustion or batteries
ok here's the thing
its not like fission
it's not a controlled explosion
let's say the reactor container just breaks, nothing would happen
because there's such a miniscule amount of stuff in there and it requires enormous amounts of pressure for it to react
so if the container breaks and pressure decreases the reaction will just stop
in regular nuclear reactions that reaction won't stop it will continue at an uncontrolled rate and cause an explosion
batteries however cause unstoppable chemical fires
and combustion engines can explode
But fusion has for now never existed in a way where it produces more power than it consumes. And that has occurred basically in gigantic labs. I don't see it feasible to put it in cars any time soon
It'll be amazing when it's here
thing is progress towards that has been happening exponentially
we're breaking records for sustained fusion all the time
But for now it might just as well be decades away
I would predict fusion being in cars within 20 years
Small thermal runaway
if you consider the exponential rate of progress
Well I really did it this time boys, this is what thermal runaway on Tesla 18650 cells look like, remember, safety first and don’t forget to checkout the indiegogo link here!”

And that's only 2 batteries
I can't remember how many a regular tesla has
Right now combustion engines are the best and safest way to go for both people and environment
And not just in regard to the batteries
But as a whole
Idk
Here let's stick with batteries for a second
Rich is good people
It would be close between combustion engines and electric cars as both require very intensive mining for manufacturing which produces a lot of emissions
Right but here's the flip side of that coin
How do you get lithium ion and copper for inside the batteries?
You can extract lithium from lithium batteries
but the process is very long and expensive
once we run out of lithium it will become economically viable
That's years down the road
We don't really have the years that will take
But then while we still have lithium there's no issue of recycling
They estimate 30 years of oil if we are lucky
It will only matter when there isn't any more to mine
What we need to do now is sell the oil we got and use the money to research and build real and safe green technologies
Like right now solar panels are just as destructive to create as the batteries and just as toxic in the environment as we have almost no recycling for them. And at best they are 33.6% efficient.
We are quite literally wrecking the earth to save it
Also the lithium and stuff is being sourced from less than ideal countries regarding environmental regulations too
Not to mention that the equipment they're using to extract it is probably running on gas and or diesel
and nearly all the mines use child labour
boggin
unmortified I guess
idk if id get insured on a modified one
gud
tbf its not worth spending the money to modify one
itd cost more to modify than its worth
unless its an r32
id sell a kidney for an r32
I prefer ropey mk3 sdi's : )
too much initial D
eurobeat intensifies
Overtook the same audi like 5 times, they would wait behind me then go past at 77 odd when there was a gap for me to move into. Then a few minutes down the road id be overtaking them doing a constant ~70 and end up with them behind again
Imma loosin my mind, imagine having a brand new luxury car with cruise control and still varying between 60 odd and 77mph
how do you get oil again?
Im in a 04 ascent and i can manage my speed better then that guy
Scroll up, see the screen shots I posted. No here let me post them again.
This is a lithium ion mine in china
Hard to fix a giant hole.
Here some oil sands in Northern Alberta during and after extraction
Please tell me which do you think is doing more damage?
right now? Oil.
A battery can be recharged dozens of times. A gallon of gas is used once.
drill it, pump it, pipe it to a refinery, pipe it to a ship, ship it across an ocean using a ship that is fueled by heavy bunker oil, pipe it elsewhere, then truck it to a gas station. Hopefully not spilling anything along the way.
I'm not counting the methane and other gas emissions that go hand in hand with oil production, which is extremely potent for climate change.
A battery has a limited life span and can't get the charge they claim it can esp in places where it gets cold
But the car lasts a lot longer
My last suv was at 450k km
And a lot fail before then.
That's twice what you average battery car gets
There are Teslas out there that hit a million km.
If you're making that claim, I'm going to need to see some figures to back it up.
No there are no teslas up here that can survive to a million
Yup in a small country
I don't see how the size of the country is relevant.
How far do you think the chargers are distanced in germany
I'm still not sure how that's relevant to the distance it traveled.
Do you think an electric car could get from Saskatoon Saskatchewan to Calgary Alberta on a single charge when it's -30?
how many miles is that?
You could fit all of Germany into BC
My Corolla could barely do 375 miles
And you know full well using an edge case is disingenuous.
Would you be more agreeable to EVs if there were a dozen charging stops between the two cities?
Calgary to Saskatoon is 600km
When it's-30 no way any teslas is doing that
But I use that example because I've made the trip
Okay, and if there were more charging stops.
When it was -30
There would be no high speed charging stations so what's your average charge time for regular charging?
4 hours give or take?
Let's say 3
yes, just keep the heater running.
When my car took 5 minutes and I was on my way
Point I'm getting at is Canada is a BIG country with a lot of open space
How about in between Birmingham and Amarillo Texas in the summer?
How much open space is between those cities ?
And can you get a 1000 miles (1500km) out of your batteries one one charge?
The old diesels VWs actually use to be able to do 1300 km on a tank
Yeah if you hypermile
And you aren't doing that in the American south.
Or the PNW
Or anywhere really.
The point I'm getting at is that EVs are not able to survive many situations
Take Spokane to Bismarck. There's 900 miles. That's 16 hours of driving.
They can survive fine.
You add time to your travel.
Yes in a perfect case with lots of charging they can
Montana had huge stretches of road without a gas station. Same for New Mexico.
I coped fine
In warm weather
Montana was late winter, I'll admit.
You don't lose 50% of your charge just to heating
If you don't prepare and drive stupid, yes you lose 50%.
Imo 90% of the people on the road don't deserve to have a driver's license
That's not the argument here.
No it's not
My points are this. 1) EVs don't have the life expectancy in real world scenarios outside of test environments. 2) creating the EVs is actually harder on the environment right now than the oil sands because we can't fix giant holes in the earth 3) our power up in Canada at least still comes from a lot of coal plants and a few water generators, but still more resources we need to burn, meaning your saving the earth is actually needing more power 4) our green technologies are shit and they are doing nothing more than rounding errors for politicians 5) I believe if we want to use EVs in real world saving ways we need to make the batteries truly recyclable, find a batter style that we don't need to dig materials out of the earth to make and have a power source that isn't dependent on the sun.
To point number 2

Sorry? WHats your point? I see sparks coming off a jumpered battery
thats something someone has done
Bad ground
not a stock car
ahh ok
My old battery just went and I noticed this built in firework show while putting the new one in
you want to see a fun fireworks show?

I almost welded a wrench to my last mower
lol
yes but they can be put out a lot easier
and the fire departments don't usually have to ask if there is live amunition in the vehicle haha
@dense shard anyway as much fun as i would have continuing this chat, I have to crash, 5am comes early
Hmm
Many people don't drive their car until the end of their life, like often just a minor damage and insurance tells you fuck off, that car isn't worth anything once its a bit older
Environmental all cars are bad for the environment, evs are worse in production but there's a break even point where ice cars overtake EVs in emissions
Power generation - now it's dirty but most western nations are on a somewhat common goal to reach fully renewable in some time, but too slow i agree
EVs aren't perfect, ICE cars aren't perfect, CNG aren't perfect, hydrogen aren't even close to perfect (because hydrogen is a pain to produce), synthetic fuel is hydrogen with extra steps.
Cars just aren't great and the real solution is to reduce the amount of them, what needs a drastic change of mind in the population
and less corruption
Power generation that could enable us to ditch fosil would require a way to store energy and be able to use it when in demand- hydrogen or pumped storage- everywhere. The way you fill these storages is stable(24/7) source of (clean) energy. Water flowtrough, contrary to popular opinion, don't produce much unless you are in like Austria where you got high attitude to take advantage of. Seeing as nuclear PPs take 20+ years to build, new pumped storage projects are being attacked by green nonprofits and hydrogen storage is nowhere near usable I don't see EVs taking of.
As to ditching the cars completely - mass transport systems were designed with cars in mind. So unless that gets scaled up it isn't an option either.
You can't get rid of cars completely - insert angry unrealist hardcore car opponent noises here - im from a rural area in the mountains, i know that public transport wont work there because people scatter all around for work and living, if i was for that I'd destroy myself because replacing 50 minute car drive vs 2.5 hour train just to get to work and then the same back would just kill me. And then i hear someone who lives 100 meters from the next underground station complaining about fuel prices and I understand those unrealistic car opponents a bit more 👀
yep, I live in rural michigan, and so often I hear the words “just take public transport” like we have that.
We do in Europe. I only ever use car to transport stuff. Sadly mass transport pricing makes it so for working adults(with no discount or subsidy) car is the same price as bus. even if we pay 2$/litre.
i wish we did. My vehicle gets awful gas milage, but it was cheap as hell so I bought it
I have hella spark knock and have to pull the plugs when it gets sunny out, and if that doesn’t fix it, it’s lifter knock
Tbh even in Europe that mostly just works in or between big cities
Other areas can be shite as well
here in Czech there is, aside from one region, literally no issue in getting around without a car. But in Slovakia self governed regions have their own bus line systems which don't cooperate at all and due to geography (long valleys that connect to main road) you still need a way to get to the main road.
I was hoping to get on the immortal-ish EURO 4 1.9TDi train but since the prices went up 30-50% I settled with 1.4MPi 44kW from 1999 with 144k km. There was quite a lot I had to change after that it blew all my repair budget I set aside. And last week some intelligent person ripped off my antenna.
If you had to pick one bad thing about a bmw, what would it be?
$ of doing anything
they made busses free for under 22's here
public transport so bad you have to give it away for free
Where in the UK?
Germany is planning the €9 ticket, a public transport ticket to travel everywhere in Germany by bus and regional train for a whole month
The German parliament must approve on 20 may
I will always want to drive myself
I hate the idea of me using public transport, that's no fun
Now i don't care if we want to make cars run on cleaner energy sources but it needs to meet the same range at least that ice can do
And not have decreasing capacity like a lithium battery
I completely refuse to take public transport as a gearhead
Driving is one of the few things i have to enjoy
Ik what you mean. shifting gears and revmatching is what keeps me awake. Tried auto transmission once and once I got used to the car doing whatever it wants I was feeling like I could fall asleep at any moment. Thing is public transport here is so much cheaper because 75% gov. subsidy. And in big towns I get to bypass traffic by taking underground.
Picking a bmw over an alpina 👀
The us and canada are.. different
I wish they were more common over here

Toyota GR Corolla review! The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is a high-performance hatchback -- and a special one. Today I'm going to take you on a thorough tour of the GR Corolla, and show you all the quirks and features of the special GR Corolla -- and I'll take you on a close tour to explain what makes ...
Can I get the engine and drivetrain in the normal body?
They aren't common anywhere, if they were they wouldn't be the same
how addicting they are to drive
I have three friends who've already pre-ordered this car.
Sick M3 dude
mmmmmmmmmmm3
Opinions on new range rover sport?
Is that yours @mellow meteor looks very tasteful
Black cars look good clean, its just cleaning them I dont like the idea of
most 8 year+ black cars look dreadful after years of bad washing practices.
could be corrected but I doubt they will ever get such treatment
the dreaded swirls
2 bucket yo!
No - 2 bucket w/ MF'ers
Always a mitt for me
I just fill a 5 gal bucket up with MFs
as In a cloth?
any dirt left on your car and you're in scratch city
invest in a good quality mitt
I think you're misunderstanding
fill bucker 1 with soapy water
fold microfiber towels up
put approx 8 - 12 towels in bucket w/ soapy water
properly washing cars I dont care much for which makes silver great
You foam the car
any dirt left from prewash will still scratch
Grab Rag #1 and wipe car down
snow foam aint getting everything
good because if you had any tar or anything you're scratching it up
Waterless, water, no issue
with a mitt it gets trapped
And then dragged all over
I am literally using a microfiber towel ONCE and throwing it in the dirty bin
no you have a rinse bucket and a clean bucket
no i do not
Once its wiped
MF towel goes in the 2nd bucket
never to be used again this wash
show me what type of cloth you're using
I dabble here and there
yeah thats fine
throw in "dirty bucket"
i was picturing like a flat sponge like cloth
No I literally said a MF towel
yeah but there mf with a bit off fluff
and some cheap shit MF that will scratch your shit up
And then it goes in the dirty bin
yeah as long as its capable of holding the dirt
Well yeah sure I just pretend that if you're half interested in detailing a car you're not using $1.99 rags
you'd be surprised
fold in quaters, wipe, fold, wipe, chuck
My peugeot would look nice polished up but its too rusty and bubbly to get that treatment really
yeah that will work better than the rinse bucket method with a mitt, bit ott for home use
my cars are very old now so paint is never going to be perfect
How old is "very old"?
20+ years
that's not even old
as my friend would say 20 years old "brand new"
yeah thats attention to detail, very clean!
30 years old
I do a fair amount of track so my engine bay isnt that clean at all
Me too
my 36 year old car
Rust is a killer in the UK
@charred depotRust sucks, but I just fixed about 30 stone chips on an F355 F1
Rust is a killer in South Eastern, PA here also
being able to weld is basically necessity anything over 20 years old
we generally dont see the good examples per say
I live in mazda world, sills and chassis rails suffer badly
yeah BMW goes a long way at treating the chassis
My buddy had an FC that was.... kind of a disaster
I have a supercharged nb mx5 thats had to have sills and chassis rails donedone
I agree but it was done when I had it with pictures before
needs to be kept on top of
Id to see a car I was buying clean without it, you never know whats under it
seen alot of cars look mint underneath before the finger of doom comes out
bloody hell, the underside of that!
I have a mk1 on my drive I thought was bad but thats next level
Assuming thats in Scotland
pretty harsh up there
food probably has too much salt on it too
the brake line burst after attempting a burnout
I know a couple of car guys up there, we joke about their version of a 'mint' car
well good thing you don't need brakes to do a burn out
well its like VW guys in the US
"My buddy has a mint mk2 GTI"
Its not necessarily all rusted...
but mint is a very subjective term
Yeah it could mean one panel is pretty good 😂
its alright when you can buy panels but most of our cars are forgotten oddballs
lots of professional sheet metal fabrication
very time consuming with no panels, I guess the mx5 has that going for it
you can make the rear inner arch out of modified ousters and the rest of the panels are easy to come by
dont buy panels for a mx5, just some fibreless side skirts : )
mazdaspeed side skirts and an under tray
mot man knowing that there is a hellscape underneath but not being able to do anything
I see you've also lived the life
Friend had a citroen BX that someone had remade the rear quarters out of wood, expanding foam and chicken wire to pass an MOT
that's hilarious
at that point you may as well save the effort and pay for a test without it being seen
Sadly I dont know anyone willing to magic a pass onto my cars
I have a guy but it will be 'tested' in Manchester
Not my bag tbh, used him once to get to a drift day when I was rushing to get the car back together
I've never seen an MOT with so many advisories
my friends project is NGX 840W if you want to check the MOT. weldings finished just needs a radiator.
ok yeah that has a big list
that MOT test reads like its been dragged up out of the sea
my car that had a shock end up in the boot had no corrosion advisories 😤
it depends on who's testing too, some are super strict.
emissions is my only struggle
I dont think ours even get tested on it
they should but I dont think the guy cares, one passed eye burningly rich
I have to explain I can make it pass with the ECU but i'm just putting it right back to how it was
still a pain in the arse
Gtr full bolt on e85
Porsche bolt on on methanol injection
So revisiting my bmw wagon thing:
It's gg'ed and I very well may be the one at fault
Engine oil was at minimum today; I had to add a quart. Still leaking
It has a 6-step transmission which made the gearing really akward for me coming from 5-step performance/sport trans tuners (like that janky old '03 saab 9-5). On the bmw, the first speed is too small and the second is somehow still geared too high. Out of frustration, I was taking her on first well past 40k rpm and skipping the second gear altogether going straight to third
Sometimes I even hit the tail end of the redline. The day I did that was exactly when I noticed the first fresh oil drips on driveway too. A few days ago, I checked the exhaust and the second pipe supposedly doesn't ever open. Somebody on a forum wrote this and how "they accelerate like grandmas".
Bottom line: I think I over-reved the engine and blew something open
🙃
You can't really overrev a car if you're upshifting.
Fuel cutoff will stop you before you damage anything.
If you're going from 4 > 3 or 3> 1, that could blow it up, but you'd have a dead car.
Well I mean I took it to almost red on first straight to third to avoid shifting 1->2
That shouldn't damage anything.
I've given my Corolla the beans plenty of times, no issues.
And that day I started spazzing out and doing that it seemed to had manifested
Well it was probably old and had warn out seals or gaskets n sht
I'd just take it easy on the shifting all the same.
But I definitely didn't do it any good by spinning it up so much
Is this a 4 cylinder or 6?
I think it's v6
why go straight from 1-3? if 1st gear is really so short why not start in 2nd
I should have asked, what year rather.
if its bmw its an i6
If you are leaking oil. Could be ... well stick your head underneath the car and take a gander
535i wagon. Long af nose. Was adding oil pretty sure it was 6 cylinder mounted straight. But then again, everything is shrouded lol
You'll know pretty fast.
No it's leaking engine oil for sure. That I established
Also when I opened up the valve, it was pretty hot and even steaming a bit. I think it's burning the oil too lol
Or maybe it's because it was at minimum? Wouldn't that cause it to burn easier? Whatever I put the craziest sounding weighted oil it said in manual with engine oil and full synthetic keywords on bottle lol
Wasn't the two most cheapest options either so 🤷♂️ I'm not down to find out what bmw certified synthetic is and how much BMW charges for it + certified BMW(tm) service charge. Must be something magic about how they handle the funnel and have superb attention to details in the pour
I called up the actual owner of the car and suggested taking it to the service center close to home for parking lamp and brake replacement. BMW would run at least 500 CAD for the parts and service. They asked me literally if I was ****ed in the head: brake pad replacements are around 80 and service another few dozen bucks at local Russki certified(tm) family friend service center
Then I gotta change transmission oil to see if it'll stop the grinding when engine brakes in gear. Then figure out the belt passenger seat problem that appeared today after I poured oil (my friend was leaning on that side of the car outside when it happened?)
The automatic trunk door tries to kill me sometimes
Within the week I'm also supposed to pick up summers and put them on finally; this will involve like 269km round trip at least (York Region to Hamilton and back if you know Ontario)
Tl;dr I think I'm gona park this bmw back from whence it came and lease a prius or something
That sounds like a good idea.
Apparently that's what people do. I was told the sweet spot is 24mo lease priuses and trade in for next prius
All that's left is sexchange and I have the cheapest insurance in the world! Toyota won't get a chance to melt into ground if you get a new one every two years as well
My only fear would be freeways and doing anything over 100kph: I've been in my buddy's yaris and it literally topped out under 120 because wind that day. Once you pick up speed it's like kiteboarding. You have to like rudder trim with the car's body to stay on course
Sorry for the following picture dump
Hey guys, I got a question, im thinking of buying a project car to daily drive. I want a compact sport-esque vehicle (like a sportback or a coupe). So far I have been really intrested in audis like a TT variant. Saw a couple of 2001 models going for ~3300€, is that a good deal? They work and stuff and they have a nice looking chasis. Would that be a good choice or are there any better ones? Is there anything I should look out for?
pls ping if answer
Uhh, someone should move the turd in front of that and it would be a beautiful picture 👀
Make the i3 not exist
2001 Audi you gotta check the year on fan forums
If I remember correctly, it was Audi that had certain late 90s to early 00s specific years that were good
ah ill look into that
Also TT apparently comes in AWD and 'roadster' 4 door. So that
Otherwise, you have an FWD coupe with ???
no audi is RWD
Audis aren't rwd
apart from a special r8
TT is on the golf platform if i remember right
its either FWD or quattro AWD
might have to find another possible project car then
yes it is
Ttrs is like a small rs3
Now this is a two-car garage I can get behind.
welp its gonna be hard
yeah, after years of thinking i thought i found one suitable but unfortunately audi has to do FWD
or awd
but there are no awd ones on sale in my country afaik
If you got some money e30, heck they got expensive 👀
I always thought TTs were biturbo V6 at least tbh. Dang
are there any older bmws with a tt like chassis?
Uhhhhh
im not gonna get a brand new car to mod
uwot
At least with 2.3 saab 9-5 you have 4 cylinder turbo fwd without two tailpipes and loud noises lol
Same 5 speed box
saabs are cool
Im pretty sure the 00s come with two turbos -- a bigger one mitsubishi or something
and a smaller one I forget the make
Audi tt has 1.8t (4 cyl)
Or 3.2 vr6
But saabs from 2000s always have a lot of electronics, windows, etc broken haha
I have my spare engine upgraded to the Mitsubishi TD04 turbo over the original garrett
Both pretty liked engines in the vw world
Segment display definitely has dead dots unless changed recently.
mines from 1995 only just now has one column missing
You learn to let it be and tell the time without difference between 3 and 8
90s I'm not familiar with, but tbh seems like a diff era then
9-5s I'm pretty sure those little things are hard to find nowadays too
Remember people jacking eachothers' saab logo without chipped paint, etc
can get 9-5's easily
Steering wheel logo I found a hack where you scrape off all the paint and it looks new
Maybe. But in good condition?
both pretty good engines to mod
£450 flexmobile
tempted to go to a 9-5 but insurance is fucked for them
9000 is what im going for.. maybe
For the new ttrs 2.5 5cyl is pretty liked in the audi world as well but i think that's just audi fans addiction to 5cyl engines
Honestly, i dealt with 3 9-5s all years like 2002-2004 max
Theyre pretty hard to distinguish. First an auto one, then a manual. I think the auto one had the engine rebuild and swapped into manual...
Windows and sunroof and sht didnt stop me from having fun on manual upgraded transmission + phat exhaust with a turbo. It was 2.3 with the small one but was enough to smoke anybody who is automatic. Not even sport mode saved them
Also a boost monster
One of the best budget cars. Built to perfection can’t say enough about these cars. Mine lasted too 250000 and I beated on the car too
I worked at Saab for a couple summers
The serpentine belt on Saab 900 encouraged me to do something else
v-belts*
on the new gen 900 you couldnt change one of the serpentine belt pulleys without removing the engine
so they bypassed that pulley and later models lost it
I miss having a car I can play with
Like replacing the LEDs
Or hell wiring up the car with 3600 leds
that has to be one of the most factual statements
no complaints as long as they’re fast
305 saloons fucking suck, just go with normie classics.
"oh the 305 saloons dont have mald inducing rear suspension like the other peugeot models around that time", got what I deserved for saying that
Thats a loaded question, what's your budget. My biggest thing is 1. aftermarket support and 2. The condition of the car
Do you want something that handles, or something with power. Or a bit of both?
I
Just
Learned about a new m3 touring
👀
Supposedly coming back
Id like that
I have seen the older gen one and it looks sooo nice
looked at it everyday going to college
fuck the 305 this is it
just redneck things
she’s a beaut
Cleeter!

oh god, car thieves are the worst.
kinda neat. they swapped the whole drivetrain/electronics from an RS3 into a Golf R
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5slZQAvwBQ
@Innovative Motorsports tore down of the RS3 and golf r and the swap is done

WANT TO MAI...
no check engine light either
The budget would be <5k, since I don't want to mod an any more expensive car and as far as handling and power go, I think of a mix between them, as you said, would be perfect.
Just have a HV conductor built into the seat
And the other one on the ignition lock cylinder
They go to steal and zap
Ezpz xD
I dig it
can i ask for help or advice in here?
ok ill just ask lol, what is the simplest way to add apple carplay to my car? but not to be very surgical to setup because of compatibility risks etc.. is there a more universal display that can be added to a car?
Double din units are "universal" providing your car fits it natively but if you have a modern car you will likely need to hope someone makes a fascia for it.
What’s the car in question
I know it’s possible with BMWs
its a Renault fluence 2015 with that tiny lcd, i found i bunch of options that replace that lcd with an android screen that has apple carplay but they require a technician (probably not me)
and i found those universal carplay displays that stick on your dash but they are overpriced and look cheap, where i live almost all kinds of cheap plastic melts within 2 weeks
Fast and Furious intensifies
Doesent look like you can do double din on the fluence. I guess your best bet would be one of those single din pioneer ones with a screen that retracts
bit spensive like
I do what i want
I guess my cars are project cars? not really into mortifying
bora
seems like a death trap
Same platform
yeah i checked that double din thing doesnt work, about the single din ones, i saw them on youtube but never actually found them, are they real? lol
All VAG corporate
you get ones that retract like this
Along with a Seat and Skoda
Yeah WAG
But I dont understand why they are engine swapping
Might as well get a RS3
fun doing different things
all the people buying saabs to rip the engine out and put them in their decrepit vauxhall 😤
eeeh
modernisation
know a few old pugs about with hdi's swapped in
XUD's are ebic but they are about as refined as a tractor and their availability is dwindling.
Been looking for some android head units for my car
and crap, they are expensive af and have specs from a 2013 budget smartphone
funny enough, i have an android head unit from 2013 (Parrot Asteroid), that's made it into 3 of my jeeps over the years. Still works great
but it runs on ancient version of android
oh totally, probally ics or something
I don't think android 10 would run smooth on 1 GB of ram
you can kinda see it in this pic
would rather use raspberry pi
posting the other jeep i had it in while i have the folder open
the third one was stock and uninteresting
I could do the electronic part of raspberry pi, but making it work in software is another story
ive been looking i cant find em in stock
@charred depot i found these in my region:
https://www.amazon.sa/dp/B083R7LPZK?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_AEKPB9V0AXVX956ZFTPF
https://www.amazon.sa/dp/B09TVZ5DJB?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_VAY8EV5151W5XWHH6P8G
are single dins completely compatible with any other single din car?
providing theres no obstructions where the screen will go yes
ofcourse youll need wiring adapters aswell as your car probably isnt iso
but those look cheap and chinsy as fuck
heres a video of someone removing the din, it deems that he removed 3 cables from it, how does that translate to either of the dins i found on amazon?
cables are irrelevant to din
ikr, anything else costs like 9x
din is just a standard dimension for car radios
well most aftermarket radios you buy will have an ISO connector
so you look for X car to ISO
you can just manually wire a iso connector to the cars wiring but worth just spending the £20 or so
Isn't a 1 din with foldable screen annoying for a Fluence/Mégane 3, as the screen will be in front of the climate controls?
this?
ik, but i would be able to control it while the creen is in the din itself right?
dayyyyuum thats hot
would be a bit of a faff with the motorised ones but I guess if its not motorised you can just smack it down with your hand heh
Yup ofc but kind of annoying to fold in the screen to operate the climate controls XD
im starting to feel like the 3rd party screens designed for the fluence is simpler lol
Most are motorized no?
aslong as your not an audiophile
im in it for the carplay anyway
Ngl I'd probably look for some Android China unit which replaces the screen on the top of the dash
i need to get android auto on my system
Bro i was at a car show and so many of these were just unlocked
thats what i meant by the 3rd party screens designed for the fluence

but i felt like they're very difficult to work with
A friend runs a chinese one thats E39 specific its alright but the DAC is obviously a bit shit
I think Mégane 3 is the same, might get you more hits
doesnt matter to me that much
Probably not worse than OEM Renault
his isnt carplay though its literally just like an android OS which is a bit shit
300 eu to install new system with android auto here is what i got quoted from local shop
they can also fit like a wider display but eh
ah yeh i stumbled upon those ones lol
What else have i got
uwotm8
sorry forgot to send link lol
https://www.amazon.sa/dp/B08VNLLPX6?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_WT2NRZQ8EG38MZKT1JZA
tbh if it is nice it beats 90% of the cars here that go to meetings
every friday there is one 10 mins away from me
10% nice cars 90% aids trash
yeah something like that but thats for a beemer heh
@serene dagger do you have R-Link in it now? I think there are kits to get ACP on there
no i dont think so
it is not about how fast a car is, if they are nice
like my friend has a diesel clio, and imo it looks very nice
but 90% is aids honda's and the only thing they have is make loud bangs out of there exhaust and listen to shitty music
wait wait YEAH IT DOES
now thats money right there
I used to like having carplay touchscreen shite now I roll in style
How much even is an sl
1,5 2 mil i think
Zamn
my peugeot had the radio stolen from it : (
How old is it?
80's moment
2015 release i think
is this a china pad ?
1,5 mil euro
I think it's only available for like facelift models
yeah i assume so
it just has an assistant button for when i connect my phone thru BT
Pur sport
Hmmm that should work
Facelift was like 2013 or something?
i would say yes, it is part of a kit that gets high praise on audi reddit / discord
but yeah i like the foldout screen more
so i just want the software on my OG screen that is also a option so np
screen look ok just the UI is ugly
So like this @serene dagger
Testing fit of our Apple CarPlay product on Renault Megane GT, with R-Link infotainment system
As the installation took place from other business's workshop, we couldn't record much video & info as we had to leave after the testing fit was done.
Hopefully this video will give you some idea - and for those Android users, our product also do pro...
i agree but the screen doesnt fit the car imo
@jovial mauve bought a BMW
the peak of french infotainment
And I'm selling it again
wait what
And keeping the Corsa
why

Because Corsa life yo
Oh yeah definitely
Got a 2020 118iA for cheap

what bimmer did you get?
zamn thats nice, i just need to know, is the resolution stretched in the video or are the screen proportions of the display actually like that
some days I want a common car like a corsa
1 series ?
Tbh idk
used car market is insane
Because I don't fit properly in it
corsa might just be the better car : )
I'm against the door and B-pillar
How tall are you ?
ripppp
typical
15k but gotta import it so ~2k im BPM
But that's very cheap, cheapest for sale ks 24k

just no one can be in the back
dude if you find another one let me know
bruh cheapest one $400
ez 10k profit
Yeah no I'll keep driving the Corsa for now xD
the only adjustment on the 305 seats is forward and back, but I can never adjust seats right and just end up fucking around with it so thats a good thing
stop spamming that shit
Roughly, gotta change the gearbox oil, polish it and replace the grill
So small investment
Polish it
oh no
Grill was broken
advanced tailgating moment
But I'll replace it with an M-Performance black grill
minor bumpage
typical BMW moment
is it full option?
alright in convinced im sending my kia stinger on here
fuck me thats alot of seat adjustment
Is this a 1 series ?
Missing ACC and heated seats
never seen one like that
Yes 1 series, F40 gen
No not facelift, complete redesign
im not a fan of the way this interior looks
