#

the engines were better than the vauxhall opel counterparts aswell

#

eventually they shared the same engine

prime valve
#

i can never trust a opel

#

im thinking of getting a car but i cant decide which one to get

#

i want a car that is OG but more insurance that way

charred depot
#

I just decide based off whats available

prime valve
#

because UK

charred depot
#

what do you mean

prime valve
#

i want a audi a4 b5 or a audi 90 sports

#

but umm 1.8t

charred depot
#

you can have an original car without anything fancy

prime valve
#

and insurance wants to kill me

#

so bmw 118i

#

because 1.5 engine

charred depot
#

very original

prime valve
#

but its a 3 liter

#

i know

#

i want to get a 1.4 or 1.5

#

so i can not get killed by insurance

charred depot
#

here you go

prime valve
#

see i would get that

#

but ULEZ

#

and fiesta i cant fit in

#

polo same thing there

#

Polski Fiat no go

charred depot
#

that car will be ulez exempt soon

prime valve
#

Yaris i would rather die

#

except the GR because its cool

#

but i cant afford that

charred depot
#

seem to have drifted away from originality

prime valve
#

i would literally get a Audi a8 d11 rn but they cost like 13k for a decent example and umm v8

#

Also older cars that are cool are literally a 2l every time

#

1.8t occasionally

charred depot
#

vauxhall chevette 1.3 litre

prime valve
#

no opel or vauxhall

#

Chav

charred depot
#

modern vauxhall maybe

#

I absolutely seperate the car from the brand at this age

prime valve
#

yeah but i want reliability

charred depot
#

what do you know of the reliability of 40 year old vauxhalls

prime valve
#

engine from a motorbike

prime valve

stoic ledge
prime valve
#

Corsa speaks chav to me

stoic ledge
#

Oh yeah totally chav spec

prime valve
stoic ledge
#

Basically this spec except the black wheels

#

But mine is entirely stock 😛

#

I wanted those black wheels

charred depot
#

volkswagens get chavved more than corsas around here these days

stoic ledge
#

But too uncomfortable for the poor Belgian roads

prime valve

i did my lessons in a fiesta and i can say if you have broad shoulders no go

stoic ledge
#

I have that too in many cars

#

But not in my Corsa

prime valve
#

But saab parts are like Gold

charred depot
#

no

#

you can get an entire low mileage engine replacement for £125

#

suspension parts all readily available

#

Im not going to have an issue getting parts

prime valve
#

ill look into this

stoic ledge
#

Sad the Saab 9-5 NG SC never made it to market

#

Looks awesome

prime valve
#

for 2012 it looked really good

#

tbh looks like it could compete with the E class

stoic ledge
charred depot
#

I struggle to believe my car is 27 years old sometimes

#

but I am stuck in the past with low expectations

stoic ledge
#

Can't believe mine is already 10

#

Feels like I bought it yesterday

fathom socket
#

My one is 19 years old

#

And yet feels modern.

carmine summit
#

My car is 25 years old

#

yet feels nicer than my mom's 2014 ford fusion lol

fathom socket
#

I still prefer the 2004 focus i had

#

Idk who designed the interior of 307

carmine summit
#

other than my broken rear shock mounts I need to replace and my engine issues, this is basically perfect imo

fathom socket
#

And I hate that the dash board is made from a soft material

carmine summit
#

mine is slightly padded and it feels waaaaaay better than hard plastic to me

fathom socket
#

But for me is unpractical

carmine summit
#

it's pretty firm still but just enough that it doesn't feel cheap like plastic

fathom socket
#

I can't add suction cup things to it

charred depot
#

the dash on my 37 year old car is disintegrating

carmine summit
fathom socket
#

Idk who designed the cup holders in peugeot 307

#

They are useless

carmine summit
#

Part of my distaste for hard plastic, UV damages it and it gets brittle

charred depot
#

not UV damage

#

weird bits like that that

carmine summit
#

Imo this is one of the best designed interiors of all time

charred depot
#

My friend made a ringer and the easy way you can tell is its a UV damaged car in the UK that isnt red

#

(vin swap)

fathom socket
#

These cup holder be like.
Brakes, everything spills.
Uses handbrake? The cup will just move with the lever.

charred depot
#

question nothing

fathom socket
#

My 307 needs new brake rotors, alignment and a hole in the floor patches

charred depot
#

bought a 305 from portugal I think and converted it to rhd

#

then swapped the vin and plates off a UK 305

fathom socket
#

Isn't UK filled with like older cars for sale that are hard to seel because they are rhd?

charred depot
#

I guess they are less desirable yes.

#

bigger market for LHD cars

fathom socket
#

Because it doesn't feel right converting lhd car to rhd

charred depot
#

there isnt many 305's left in the UK

fathom socket
#

Then I guess makes sense

charred depot
#

their rust proofing left a very very lot to be desired, 205's are lightyears better

#

it was just before peugeot started waxing the inside of box sections

fathom socket
#

At least the rust proofing in my 307 is better than the focus I had

charred depot
#

and a terrible drainage system that clogged to go with it

#

for example there is zero peugeot 305 GLD's on the road at the moment in the UK

#

28 off the road one of which I have

#

many parts sites dont even recognise the 305's existence

#

they have 505's 205's but 305 never happened

#

this is all 305 models

fathom socket
#

That's a big drop

charred depot
#

the main issue was in other cars you can deal with them rusting ladas etc

#

whats a gaping hole in the sill, but with the 305 its primary rust spot was hidden infront of the dashboard and inaccessible.

#

the result was your car flooding everytime it rained

#

you have to remove the entire dashboard to repair it

fathom socket
#

Sounds like more than pain

charred depot
#

and thats how they got scrapped

#

you cant even see it happening until your car is flooded

Oh ok

charred depot

they cut out part of the original UK car and welded it in

stiff burrow

Oh I see

#

Any issues besides the mismatched center console?

charred depot

no as I say the entire UK car dash and metalwork ahead of it was swapped in

Ok

stoic ledge
stiff burrow

That’s pretty cool tho

stoic ledge

Good luck trying that with modern cars lol

stiff burrow

Lol

charred depot
#

its funny people end up buying it then posting on forums about their new 305

#

they blur out the reg and my friend goes is the reg ...

#

oh yeah you know its a ringer right

#

the new owners didnt seem too keen to pass the message along when they got rid of the car

I like retractable antennas

They’re fun to watch

stoic ledge

Tbh if you go to a parking lot and look at all antennas.... Cars look weird AF lol

stiff burrow

Yeah

charred depot

beautiful

#

it sounds like a monster with its big diesel

stiff burrow
#

Most cars I see have shark fins now, which look nicer but aren’t as fun as a regular antenna

#

Or maybe it’s just me who thinks the normal wobbly antennas are fun :p

stoic ledge
#

Yeah nowadays shark fins are common

#

But putting shark fins on cars not designed to have them often also look weird

charred depot
#

My friends got a 505 estate coming that he was offered for £500

charred depot
#

the petrol engine is blown and the car is in pieces, A diesel engine will be swapped in.

stiff burrow
#

I think they look good when mounted on the back in the middle. Some cars have them mounted above the drivers seat which is kinda weird

stoic ledge
stiff burrow
#

Yeah

#

The new GM SUVs have them mounted there

stiff burrow
plucky merlin
#

I've seen some nice mods done already, and Ford released the CAD files for their new FITs open source modding system. If they continue supporting it, it'll have a lot of potential

stiff burrow
#

At least for me, I could have a unibody truck. I would use it for carrying my bike or skis around or going to Home Depot. I don’t tow or haul anything

plucky merlin
#

Most people could have one

stiff burrow
#

The mod system is the most interesting part for me

plucky merlin
#

A lot of people buy trucks that aren't optimized to their workload, which kinda misses the point of a truck - customizing it to your usecase

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

plucky merlin
#

But since trucks have gotten so big, and engines have gotten so efficient, it's created a gap that's now being filled by these smalls trucks and "trucks"

#

The new Hyudai pickup thing with the 3 or 4 foot bed for example

#

Perfect for a lot of people

#

I'm really excited about the mod system

#

For one, it's cool af

#

But it also means that Ford is keeping DIY folks like myself in mind, which has been a major concern of mine as we enter the highly integrated electric computer vehicle era

#

I'm a truck guy to the bone, but unlike many idc what the propulsion system is based on, as long as I can repair it myself

stiff burrow
#

EVs use a lot of “standard” parts that are the same in gas cars. Suspension, brakes, wheels + tires, etc. The main problems for DIY EV repair will come with the electric motor and battery systems.

plucky merlin
#

it's more of a concern about not being "allowed" to do it (cough cough tesla cough)

stiff burrow
#

External mods are far more important I think, especially because EVs are already powerful and have lots of torque. Having interchangeable racks in the back of the bed is an awesome idea for example

Especially if it's modern

#

You diy stuff you can make things have a really premium look and feel actually

#

Just go look at YouTube

viscid atlas
#

@timber oar trust me, YOU or ME isnt doing that.

#

i wouldnt trust you making anything premium for my 911 interior, and i dont trust myself with touching it either.

#

people that DiY stuff on youtube in that vein have a lot of experience

timber oar
#

im not saying im going to be great at it either xD

#

the potential is there though

viscid atlas
#

ofcourse there is

#

but at that point you become a car interior design business

timber oar
#

im going to try some of it with a project im working on

viscid atlas
#

dont get me wrong i can model things

#

and print them, etc

#

but i wouldnt do a permanent mod to my interior

remote ridge
#

I don't like doing any permanent mods honestly

#

I put side skirts on but that hurt a lot to do

viscid atlas
#

can i just point out the miata with underglow

#

i do like permanent mods when theyre done well

timber oar
#

what is the aversion to permanent mods?

#

im curious

viscid atlas
#

if theyre from a reputable company and theyre good, theyre fine

remote ridge
#

If I end up not liking it I can take it off or change it

viscid atlas
#

if youre DiY ing it, and you have actual experience

#

coo,

#

cool*

remote ridge
#

My underglow isn't screwed in at all

#

It's held on by silicon caulking

viscid atlas
#

if youre slapping a shitty wing on your car by drilling holes in the boot, i have a problem with that

#

thats a good idea

#

that shit comes off real easy

timber oar
#

i mean if you seal them right

#

i dont really like wings anyways but i know some do

viscid atlas
remote ridge
#

I've already taken it off and put back on to remove rust underneath once wasn't too bad

viscid atlas
#

this is my old S13 btw, in turkey.

remote ridge
#

Dang that's clean

timber oar
#

but the thing is not having experience doesnt scare me at all

viscid atlas
#

the body was VERY fucked up

#

i mean the fenders and that stuff

timber oar
#

nobody had any experience when they started

viscid atlas
#

same with the bumper

timber oar
#

ill just practice on my shit and learn along the way

viscid atlas
#

had cracks and rust all over it

remote ridge
#

I think next time I do anything that requires drilling body panels im going to buy a carbon fiber one to replace it

viscid atlas
#

i would practice with non-permanent mods

#

i agree with practicing that. and you should

#

i just wouldnt do something permanent because when you do get more experience youll probably regret it

timber oar
#

ive got some bad rust holes in one of my cars that im going to weld patch panels in

viscid atlas
#

yea that, go ahead

#

its gonna be better than if you hadnt touched it

timber oar
#

even then imo permanent is related to your skill level

viscid atlas
#

if you drill a hole, youre not patching the hole up as OEM

remote ridge
#

Bondo and filler stuff works for that but it won't really be the same as OEM

wispy cloak
#

Bondo really isn't the best solution but if you do end up using it make sure you get rid of all of the rust beforehand
