I told my dads I'm building the ultimate muscle car

£120 for the part

over £100 for the fuel 🗿

fathom socket
#

this is what I wanted to ask

#

furthest I drove was from Sheffield to Dover

charred depot
#

fuel cost not too bad, not a very interesting drive though.

#

I could spice it up but journey would take too long

#

Dont really want to sleep in the saab

also i have driven 17 hours straight before

#

it’s not hard

you wouldn’t have to sleep the

i was driving 8-12 hour days from northern california back to florida, once i got to houston i think i just said fuck it and drove straight home

charred depot

If I feel tired im not going to continue driving like a twat

terse raptor
#

i wasn’t tired

well i was at one point, but in new Orleans. monster truck threw me a few monster hydros

had to stop for gas every 230 km

#

this is the route I took

civic girder
#

No. It also used IMA, which is an awful system. Ran the battery cells in series for more output, and basically zero reliability; and less longevity.

stoic ledge
#

😛

civic girder
#

I mean, by that point I believe it was gen 3 IMA

#

so it better have been at least partially more reliable

#

thanks for your response! Im impartial to either. I am doing a lot of city driving so i think this might be it. I got to drive a corolla hybrid and I will say I diddnt mind it. I think im going with the insight. I even considered the hyundai elantra hybrid tbh but their hybrid system is pretty new and untested.

dense shard
#

Hyundai has been doing hybrids for well over a decade now

civic girder
#

The Hyundai's are overpriced right now

#

the cheapest brand new one I could find was $6k over MSRP

keen sleet
#

Yeah cheapest one I see in my area is 29k

#

USD

dense shard
#

Now is a bad time to buy

#

New or used

keen sleet
#

Yep

#

Only reason why I’m even considering is bc I got an offer for 5k more than what I owe on my car (more than I paid for it) so it’s a decent time to get a more affordable and gas saving car especially bc the insight I’m looking at is only slightly above msrp bc they out the stupid clear wrap on it

#

But with current credits I’d be slightly below msrp

#

But I live in the west coast so hybrids are impossible to find atm

civic girder
#

But oh well

#

Not worth it to trade in when the Honda only has $6k miles. I can always get something else in a couple years when it's paid off

that makes sense

I had like 47l tank and 30 were technically usable

prime valve
#

Poland power

#

das is gas

#

is it cheaper to do a journey like that with LPG?

fathom socket
#

I was also getting bad fuel economy due to compression loss

prime valve
#

because when we go from the UK to Poland we only stop like 3 times for gas

fathom socket
#

if a kliter of LPG costed 80 cents and petrol coster 1.70 euros on avg

prime valve
#

because you do have to stop more

fathom socket
#

also by going to netherlands and seeing fuel price at over 2.05 euros per liter

#

I mean if I already had it I've used it

it is cheaper

stoic ledge

I 'member paying 0.239/liter for LPG in Belgium

stoic ledge

that's like 40% cheaper than in poland

stoic ledge
#

Apparently February 2020 it was even <20c/liter

#

But I couldn't go there due to covid border restrictions KEKW

#

It's 0.69/liter now 😢 (but also nice 😏 )

fathom socket
#

and here we had it for 0.84 eur per liter

prime valve
#

would putting lpg into a v8 be even a saving

#

wouldnt it just eat through LPG?

stoic ledge

It would also eat through petrol

there are trucks that run on CNG

Cheap stations are 2.01

prime valve

what is the price now ?

fathom socket

now it's 1.27 eur for e5 95

Kekw

what

#

UK is 1.80 eur for for diesel

#

some places even 2.10eur

fathom socket

but UK had fuel crisis

and they stole fuel from my truck

stoic ledge

OOF

prime valve
#

they had idiots panicking for no reason

civic spoke
#

Diesel is stupid expensive now.

stoic ledge
#

Diesel is chill cheaper than petrol here somehow

prime valve
#

i really dont understand why people went crazy

#

when there is fuel but no one to deliver

stoic ledge
#

Luckily tho, otherwise the double road tax would make 0 sense KEKW

prime valve
#

because immigrants left the country

civic spoke
#

E10/95 - 18,09 kr/l
Diesel - 20,77 kr/l

stoic ledge
civic spoke
#

So yeah. Fun stuff.

prime valve
#

is that cheap ?

stoic ledge
#

No

#

Kr -> eur = /10

#

Roughly

prime valve
#

its the same as UK

#

1.48 gbp

#

so like 1.90 eur

civic spoke
#

Diesel is $8.80 USD per gallon.

prime valve

what

the

Im Polish so i do liters

civic spoke

£1,69 per liter

prime valve

thats like top top range

civic spoke

€2.03 per liter

that thing better make my car self driving

civic spoke

So me filling up my truck's 300 liter fuel tank is €600...

prime valve
#

free Tesla when you buy 100l

stoic ledge
#

Still wouldn't drive one

#

Fun to blow up tho

prime valve
#

i mean you crash a tesla you burn for weeks

civic spoke
#

Whoever bought an early Tesla were probably laughing at themselves with the free supercharging.

#

Since you got free lifetime charging.

prime valve
#

i mean there are probably some terms and conditions

#

and it will end after some time wouldnt be surprised

stoic ledge
#

Lifetime... Until the battery dies 3 months after the warranty expires

prime valve
#

is it lifetime of the customer or of the car?

civic spoke
#

The vehicle.

prime valve
#

well then that aint long

stoic ledge
civic spoke
#

And all of the battery warranty is already out

prime valve
#

2018

civic spoke
#

8 years for the battery.

stoic ledge
#

Exactly

prime valve
#

so 2012 teslas

stoic ledge
#

Luckily you can replace it

prime valve
#

are umm fked

stoic ledge
#

For a mere 25k

civic spoke
#

But then you gotta ask yourself. What will die first? The battery, or everything else on the car?

stoic ledge
#

Both

prime valve
#

battery is probably first

#

or the gaps in the doors will kill you

stoic ledge
#

The screen will freeze .. just replace it for 4k

#

Doorhandles will fail

prime valve
#

that is a common issue

#

that is also a common issue

charred depot
#

"no one else can repair our cars"
"yeah we can offer you an appointment in fmmm 2 months"

stoic ledge
#

And after that appointment they come to the same conclusion as you could've on the phone, but now they can order the part with a 4 month waiting period

prime valve
#

4k for a tesla screen

#

why tf would someone even get it

charred depot
#

teslas in canada arent doing too well with stuck flaps not allowing windscreen demisting.

prime valve
#

replace it with a OLED

stoic ledge
#

Because you can't replace the screen, but you need the entire unit

civic spoke
#

Ehh. OLED in cars is probably bad.

stoic ledge
#

OLED in cars are meh

charred depot
#

fits for the lifespan of a tesla :^)

stoic ledge
prime valve
#

also the fact it has a screen in the middle

#

isnt that a distraction

#

like looking straight forward and looking to the side

#

seems like a distraction

civic spoke
#

When you have to look to the side to see your speed. KEKW

prime valve
#

Tesla will save you

#

it will drive straight into a wall

charred depot
#

its financially insane to buy anything other than a tesla

stoic ledge
#

When you need to go in a menu to change the wiper speeds

prime valve
stoic ledge
#

Yeah

stoic ledge
#

The auto wipers only properly work in California

#

The Model S doesn't even have a gearselector anymore

charred depot
#

if your going to be an ass of a company and not allow others to repair your cars atleast make sure you dont have people waiting 2 months for initial appointments

prime valve
#

A EV just seems like a good way to pay less tax and get money from the government on a car

charred depot
#

thatll change

#

when they stop raking in that sweet sweet fuel duty money theyll have to start penny pinching from EV's

prime valve
#

Tbh wont be surprised

stoic ledge
#

Tax advantage decreasing... Immediately evident

Spot the year it was basically free to own a Tesla as a company car

prime valve
#

but bitcoin

stoic ledge
#

Yikes

Crypto

#

Unbased

charred depot
#

how did that even get paid for

#

rip tax money

stoic ledge
#

The cars are paid for, but 0 tax was paid

#

:')

charred depot
#

so just ver cheap

prime valve
#

and then the company sells crypto makes a lot more money with no tax

stoic ledge
#

Meanwhile a Corsa already has 4k in emissions tax

prime valve
#

when you pay with crypto do you pay the tax?

charred depot
#

soo good for the environment cmon guys buy new cars so we can crush your old ones or send them to third world countries.

prime valve
#

or do you pay without tax?

stoic ledge
#

With

prime valve
#

but they dont pay tax on it smart

charred depot
#

if the car is shipped to a third world country then the emissions no longer exist

stoic ledge
#

Crypto is also not environmentally friendly... It used 8% of the world power production

#

Just ban it

civic spoke
#

Problem with EV's is currently trying to get enough batteries to supply them.

#

Along with the whole chip shortage, deal.

stoic ledge
#

Tesla goes not stonks

prime valve
#

crypto is great for money laundering

stoic ledge
#

Problem solved

charred depot
#

we dont even know what to do with batteries when their usefulness completely ends yet.

stoic ledge
civic spoke
#

Recycle, in some way.

charred depot
#

easier said than done

prime valve
#

drink the juice

#

and melt the metal

stoic ledge
#

Most batteries aren't being recycled now as it's cheaper to just make new ones

#

Sad but true

#

It's all fun and giggles on paper

prime valve
#

its stupid but the rich like money not saving the world with their money

charred depot
#

should make the manufacturers responsible for proper EOL handling

#

if they are going to make cars whitegoods they deserve that responsibility

prime valve
#

its like apple getting sued for 40 million for not using usb c

#

its like it will matter to them

#

2.08 USD trillion company

civic spoke

If we want whole countries to only use EV's. Then we NEED ways to recycle, and reuse the batteries in some ways.

Yeah

jovial mauve
#

i did not want to be that guy 😛

stoic ledge
#

Also very thirsty as soon as the batteries run out, and handles worse than just the regular 1.4/1.5TSI 😛

#

Not really a GTx imho, the driving experience is in no way comparable to something like the GTI

jovial mauve
#

yeah it drivers 100% different

#

but from branding i understand it

#

i drove them all GT GTD GTI

#

the GTD is pretty slick

#

fast and good pull

stoic ledge
#

GTD is alright yes

#

Better than the GTE imho

jovial mauve
#

yeah, but the GTE is not ''that'' bad

stoic ledge
#

Or atleast, the GTE is fine the first X kilometers

#

As soon as the batteries run out, it's not like it still works as a hybrid

jovial mauve
#

its still a pretty decent fast car but its the most tame

stoic ledge
#

It just works as a regular 1.4TSI

jovial mauve
#

yes

stoic ledge
#

So it's a 1.4TSI with 300kg extra

#

That's not a GTx driving experience 😛

jovial mauve
#

i mean yes but it drives better then most hybrids in that class

#

im not a fan of hybrids in general

#

i test drove a few but it was like

#

meeeeh

stoic ledge
#

But other hybrids don't pretend to be sporty 😉

#

The GTE does

jovial mauve
#

i mean

#

the 330e tries to be sporty

stoic ledge
#

They claims it's basically a GTI but greener

#

Which is false

jovial mauve
#

the c350 as well with its omega stiff suspension

stoic ledge
#

Ah well you the 330e, almost forgot that existed again KEKW

#

And wasn't the C350e a diesel?

#

Atleast for some part it was

#

Maybe they switched it up later

jovial mauve
#

it is a plugin

stoic ledge
#

V60 D5/D6 PHEV is also a fast but not a sporty hybrid

#

But it's more aimed to comfort

stoic ledge
#

330e/C350e/V60 PHEV/GTE

jovial mauve
#

the c350e what i remember was you cant like accelrate normal

#

600nm if you press the gass one inch to far

#

spinny bois

#

2.0 petrol engine

stoic ledge
#

Was the C350e still RWD only?

jovial mauve
#

279 hp i think

stoic ledge
#

Yeah

jovial mauve
#

pretty sure its RWD dont know about only

stoic ledge
#

Ok no I'm switching up thing, C300de is diesel PHEV, C350e was petrol PHEV

#

I thought it was the other way around

#

Mi bad

#

But yeah RWD

#

The Volvo had the advantage the PHEV was AWD (diesel front, electric rear)

#

So it didn't suffer from wheelspin that much

#

But consumed front tires

jovial mauve
#

with the changes in road tax im glad i did not get a PHEV

#

esp the c350e

#

she thicc

stoic ledge
#

Yeah we looked at the V60 D6 (and C350e/C300e/330e) for my brother instead of the V40, but road tax was just insane after the 75% discount is gone

#
  • they already plummeted in value... Might go even more
jovial mauve
#

yeah

#

but its expensive

stoic ledge
#
  • they all have some reliability issues
#

And those problems are expensive

jovial mauve
#

and if you run out of charge its a heavy car to power

#

yeah

#

i looked at the newer type 330e

#

but yeah the taxes were like well get Fd

stoic ledge
#

The V60 D6 was able to get him to work on pure EV, charge it there and then get back on pure EV. So that would've been nice

#

But just the expected road tax

#

And ofc it was more expensive as a V40, money which he could use as he was looking for a different house

#

And you know what the housing market is like 😛

jovial mauve
#

yeah rough i got lucky with that so happy if i see the prices now i cry

#

people tell me sell with profit, and i'm like bruh where do i go then

stoic ledge
#

All the "profit" you make, you have to put it back in the new house

#

So net profit = 0

#

Maybe even a loss

#

Probably, with the change of ownership tax KEKW

why arent audi engines used for drag racing but gtr engines are ?

is the the simplicity of the build of the engine ?

dense shard

Probably because the GT-R motors have more potential.

Kind of like how the EJ, 2JZ, and LS engines are so popular. They have a very strong block design, and can usually take the power. I should include the 4G63 as well.

And despite all the hate... the new 6 cylinder in the Supra shares a lot design features with the 2JZ
