Windscreen fluid costs around 40 SEK for 4 liter in Sweden, (€3,75) it is kinda cheap

#

It depends where and which brand you buy it

I only use OEM washer fluids

its the wiper blades you have to worry about

Don't forget the rear wiper ^^

No rear wipers on the back of my car, nor truck.

I have a rear wiper but the mechanism is broken so its just loose :^(

civic spoke

Just remove the wiper at that point.

#

I THINK you can just yank it off.

charred depot
#

I think im going to fix it

#

would be nice for setting off in the morning

elfin stone
#

Mainly depends on how the trunk is built

#

Ie I can’t see shit when it’s raining and I’m on the Highway

eager grove
#

Don’t understand why sedans don’t have rear wipers and hatchbacks do

#

Everyone’s like ā€˜it’s the angle’ and I’m like…what???

A toyota aygo has a rear wiper

#

And they cost about 50p

#

So that argument makes no sense either

elfin stone
#

Maybe it just looks awful to the designer of the car

#

It’s probably a design choice

stoic ledge
#

I mean, on the Insignia sedan (hatchback) it's an optional extra

#

Not many people choose it

#

As it's ugly AF

charred depot

sedans dont need it because of the angle :^|

elfin stone
#

Pfft

civic girder

yea rear wipers on sedans looks so bad

stoic ledge
elfin stone

Oh lord

stoic ledge

But yeah you don't really need it

civic girder

only acceptable on hatchbacks, vans, and suvs

charred depot
#

theres tonnes of air flowing across the rear window of sedans it will self clean at relatively low speeds

stoic ledge
#

The air moves it off by itself

elfin stone
#

I’m not a fan of Sedans to be honest, the trunk feels microscopic

charred depot

my saab has to be going 70mph before its bloomin vertical front window will clear

that's just psychology. Sedan trunks are plenty for a lot situations

So, it’s essentially a Vauxhall with Opel branding and left hand drive

elfin stone

I did joke around with the idea to convert it to a Vauxhall branding with badges etc. but the I found out that the Astra was sold as Saturn in the states

Weren't earlier Astra H's made in Antwerp, Belgium?

elfin stone

But parts for that car are nonexistent in Europe with Saturn branding

Someone thought it was worth it to import a Saturn Astra

Not just an Astra with a Saturn grill

what level of human do you have to be to import an ashtray

Sadly I don't

But it should be the exact same as a regular Astra

elfin stone

oh, ok

stoic ledge
elfin stone

what's with that additional screen in the speedometer?

charred depot

astra H's had that here methinks

elfin stone

umm, wat?

Btw, I did hack my mileage ^^

#

Swapped the Unit for a OPC variant

stoic ledge
#

Hmmmm not all Saturns appear to have that

#

But tbh idk what it is

elfin stone
#

ok, i only know that the automatic cars do have a screen for the gear

#

but that one is a manual

#

which is additionally weird, as the saturns are US cars

#

And I did reprogram it, so no legal issues ^^

stoic ledge
charred depot
#

I like green clusters : )

elfin stone

Apparently the car had 2000km more on the clock than the engine

Which is odd

Replacement engine

Still need to flash the immobilizer out of my new engines ECU

elfin stone

Because it were exactly 2000 kilometers

And you don’t drive a car 2000 km to swap out the engine with a brand new one

stoic ledge
#

I quite like the amber

#

It's easy on the eyes

#

I hate blue speedometers tho

charred depot
#

but can you turn off all the lights except from the speedo fmmm

elfin stone
#

Well, you can reprogram the Speedo to shut on the lights only when the outside lights go on

#

That’s the fun part of an OPCOM

#

You can do stuff that usually only the dealer can do

charred depot
#

Tech 2's the same

elfin stone

Tech 2 can’t program a speedlock

#

I think it’s also called anti hijack

charred depot

what a speed limiter?

elfin stone

No, the Car automatically locks itself at a certain speed

charred depot
#

ah

#

I dont have central locking anyway

elfin stone
#

So that people can’t randomly open the door and pull you out like in GTA

stoic ledge

That's also in the P-menu of the key

elfin stone
#

ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

stoic ledge
#

Because it was being sold in the US, and giving them control is too much

elfin stone

It's a bit complicated to activate, probably a lot of customers complained

you have to keep pressing the locking button until the car beeps

Ah it's different in the Corsa, you control it via the odometer screen

elfin stone

opel probably thought that the feature wasn't ready yet

But the effort for the powered rear windows was worth it. Add the Pano and you almost have a TwinTop

It's kinda sad such convertibles aren't available anymore

I think the only B-segment convertible you can yet is the Mini Cabrio? And in the C-segment a T-Roc Convertible cross-over thingy 🤮

Very true

last time i checked my car took about 6.8 l per 100 km

which is pretty good for a 2009 car

stoic ledge

Better than mine

I get 8l/100km

elfin stone

oof

stoic ledge

But LPG which uses ~10-15% more

6.8 is quite low

better than my 2010 mazda 2

But also I usually have to drive a stretch of road which is terrible for my fuel economy

elfin stone

#

it was just an idea

Dutch journalist Thijs Zonneveld wrote a column proposing the construction of an artificial mountain in the flat Netherlands as a joke. But the idea has captured the country's imagination and Zonneveld is now looking into its feasibility. After all, he says, in the past the country managed to reclaim massive areas of land from the sea.

You have to bring it into a contracted shop though to inspect it thoroughly if you want to buy a Astra TT

lofty compass
#

Isn't astra a car by saturn

#

Speaking of Saturn's what's a cheap one to buy that will last a while

#

Also available in America

elfin stone
#

Opel engineered the car, GM rebadged it and sold it under various brands

lofty compass
#

I'm asking because soon like August 3rd is my birthday and then I turn 16 and will have to know what I'm doing rather buy expensive stuff lmao

elfin stone

Well, if you ask me, I’d buy a 2008-2009 Saturn Astra

But I don’t know if you are into hatchbacks or sedans

lofty compass

Reason I asked about Saturn was if I were to not get job mowing yards and stuff because that's kinda what I'm thinking about doing and just buying a truck

elfin stone
#

Aah, kk.

#

I can post some pictures of the German variant if you want

lofty compass
#

Sure

elfin stone
#

That one has some extra features you probably won’t get with a US variant though, they didn’t sell with a panoramic roof

lofty compass
#

To me that seems like it would be decent car

elfin stone
#

It is, and it has a good fuel economy

lofty compass
#

Funny thing is how I thought they stopped making cars as well lol

#

Thing is I think also my dad did

elfin stone
#

I get about 40 mpg

lofty compass
#

Although Saturn's are definitely good at fuel efficiency

elfin stone
#

(Had to do the l/100km conversion)

lofty compass
#

Or from what I know about them

elfin stone
#

Yeah, they are mainly selling rebadged European cars (at least they did until Opel was sold) you need fuel economy over here

lofty compass
#

Actually does Saturn even make trucks just as a random question

elfin stone
#

Dunno

#

Saturn does not exist over here

#

It is mainly an equivalent to Opel

#

And if that applies to the US, they won’t have trucks at all

#

They are extremely niche over here

#

I did some conversion, and fuel prices are about 8$ per gallon over here, on a good day

#

@lofty compass alright, looks like Saturn sold rebadged GM trucks, that was new to me

#

But the information you get from here is pretty unreliable

#

Some sources say that they sold one, some say they didn’t

#

You better look at Toyota etc. for one

lofty compass
#

Idk lol but the first vehicle I have used on a road was db30 which is basically a mini bike that is really meant for off road lol
By on road I mean of course up and down a small road

elfin stone
#

Well…

#

Then the cars I can show you won’t be for you

lofty compass
#

I mean thing is it was a mini bike and I definitely understand that cars are very different from something like a db30

elfin stone
#

There are literally 2 use cases for cars like ie Jeeps over here : Too much money available or you work on a Farm/In the Forest

lofty compass
#

And then trucks
Good for transporting heavy items and a bit of offroading

elfin stone

elfin stone

So, GM had a whole division to come up with new names?

stoic ledge
stoic ledge
elfin stone
#

Oh boy

stoic ledge
#

GM is great at rebadging stuff PogChomp

elfin stone
#

Well, Opel still rebadges 100% of their stuff to Vauxhall

stoic ledge
#

The also killed the real Holden Commodore in the US (RWD etc) and gave them back the Insignia as Holden Commodore... I mean the Insignia is great but it's not a Commodore PogChomp

#

Well yeah Opel == Vauxhall, and that will never change

#

It's just brand recognition, Vauxhall has a big heritage in the UK and Opel is completely unknown

#

Ireland actually gets RHD Opel's šŸ˜›

elfin stone
#

Now that’s an interesting approach

#

Northern Ireland gets Vauxhall or Opel? šŸ˜…

stoic ledge

But Opel's have always been Opel's (excluding vans), other markets got some "native" cars from the brand itself, some rebadged models from X, some rebadged mores from Y...

well even with all the money in the world, many people don’t want to daily those types of cars because they aren’t practical

stiff burrow
#

With a Suburban you can take 8 people, a bunch of stuff, and tow a trailer all at the same time

#

You can also fold the seats down to carry long or large items without a trailer or roof rack

#

People would say ā€œwell get a wagon thenā€ but they don’t sell wagons in the US and CA. That’s why we have so many crossover SUVs. The crossover is North Americas wagon.

#

Although if I lived in Europe I would buy a wagon

dense shard
#

You almost never need to carry 8, a bunch of stuff or tow anything

stiff burrow
#

Well the idea is you can

dense shard
#

It's expensive to operate, and guzzles gas like a school bus

#

You can, but don't

#

Instead you fuck the environment and burn a hole in your wallet

stiff burrow
#

I used to regularly take 7 ppl around, not unheard of

#

I guess 6 not including myself

dense shard
#

Most people I see commute alone

#

Buy for the 90% use case not the 10%

stiff burrow
#

Last time I checked a normal car only has 5 seats

dense shard
#

Also a van seats 8 and has more storage than an SUV

stiff burrow
#

So buying a car with 3 rows was what I needed at the time

#

Why would I buy a van that seats 12 if I only need to carry 6

dense shard
#

Because it can carry 8, has a crap ton of storage, and can tow things.

#

And it'll be better on gas than a Suburban.

#

Easier to maneuver in tight spots.

stiff burrow
#

Are you talking about a minivan?

dense shard
#

yes

stiff burrow
#

Because when I hear van I think of this

dense shard
#

If that's what you want, go for it.

#

Still cheaper than a Suburban

#

And since you brought up utility, vastly more utilitarian.

stiff burrow
#

Vans and minivans aren’t the same, just wanted to clarify šŸ‘

dense shard
#

But a Honda Odyssey is pretty great.

#

I'm aware they're not exactly the same.

stiff burrow
#

Then why did you say van if you meant minivan?

#

And to be honest they just weren’t on my radar at the time

dense shard
#

Because it's 11 pm.

#

And I am tired. And my point still stands.

stiff burrow
#

Well you are right

dense shard
#

People keep acting like they must drive something that'll get even that 1% edge use case.

#

I imagine most SUVs with a transfer case have never seen low range, or towed more than a couple thousand pounds.

#

But hey, who am I to say. It's not like gas prices are that volatile... right?

carmine summit
#

If you don't need a truck on a daily basis, don't buy a truck to daily drive

#

It's that simple

dense shard
#

I still want a Porsche tho

carmine summit
#

there's a difference between "I want to buy x vehicle because I like it" and "I want to buy x vehicle because it can do something I might need someday"

dense shard

that or a Jag

stiff burrow
dense shard
#

I don't want to drop half the drivetrain to replace that.

carmine summit
dense shard
#

Gotta drop the torque tube, trans, and take apart a few other parts.

stiff burrow
#

And through the same vein of the conversation earlier, why buy a sports car when an econobox can get you around much lighter on gas. An econobox also has much more cargo space and is cheaper. Sometimes people just want a truck/SUV or a sports car.

carmine summit
#

914s are only slightly different (engine bolted to transmission insead of driveshaft assembly) and you can get that out in an hour or two

dense shard
#

I own an econobox.

#

Which is great fun actually.

carmine summit
stiff burrow
#

Just saying the ā€œthere are other vehicles that are potentially betterā€ thing works for any car you could possibly want

carmine summit
#

F150s are one of the best selling vehicles in canada

dense shard
#

Buying a car because it's fun vs a car that "can do anything" are two different things.

carmine summit
#

I guarantee half of the people who buy them would be fine with a sedan

dense shard
#

If I wanted a pragmatic car I'd get a Corolla. Which I got.

stiff burrow
#

Not really that different, both are reasons to want a vehicle.

#

You can want something that can do it all yet never actually do anything with it, your choice

#

Same way old ladies have sports cars and never drive them how they should be driven

carmine summit
#

buying something for enjoyment is in no way the same as buying a utility vehicle because it's utilitarian, then not utilizing it

stiff burrow
#

ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

#

Like I said both are reasons to want something, just different reasons

#

Maybe they enjoy driving trucks, I know people like that

#

Or they enjoy the idea that they can do anything with their vehicle

carmine summit
#

I'd be willing to bet I've done more with a MK4 Volkswagen Jetta than most people have with an F150

#

More towing, more hauling, more off road

stiff burrow
#

Ok

carmine summit
#

Point is that most of the people daily driving trucks have no reason to be other than they think they need a truck so they can take their bicycle camping or something

#

there are plenty of legitimate reasons to daily drive a truck

#

But for most people there's no point

stiff burrow
#

Ok well that’s fair, you don’t need a truck to take a bike somewhere. But I think most of it is that people just want a truck and part of the justification is ā€œit can do anythingā€

#

When ā€œI want itā€ isn’t enough justification to whoever they’re telling

dense shard
#

Problem is that their anything can be accomplished with a quarter of what they got.

#

They can do more than they'll ever do at the cost of being unable to park it and pay dearly at the pump twice a week.

carmine summit
#

they could spend less on something nicer and more practical for them that would save them money long term and be equally capable

dense shard
#

Not saying my Jeep is crap, but it is crap.

#

At least it's wintery outside, so I can justify it for the most part

stiff burrow
#

I don’t see a problem, aside from being unable to park. If you have a large vehicle at least know how to park it ffs

carmine summit
#

i mean i can parallel park an F550 plow truck lol

stiff burrow
#

Most people don’t tho

#

He’s right

carmine summit
#

Most people say something like "i feel safer in big vehicles" but i drive medium duty trucks and small cars all the time and to me being able to avoid a crash seems safer than having a big crumple zone

stiff burrow
#

I agree that reason is silly

#

I think trucks are actually less safe

#

They crush anything in their path and roll over easily

carmine summit
#

And they're harder to change direction, and harder to stop

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

carmine summit
#

Worse weight distribution so they slide easier

stiff burrow
#

You can fix that by putting stuff in the bed

#

But yeah

charred depot
#

soon I will have the best of all worlds, slow, bad handling, light and rusty

#

and structurally challanged

eager grove
#

I mean reallly rich people don’t care about gas mileage, so it’s probably unsurprising they drive fuel inefficient vehicles

#

It’s a but surprising it’s usually giant vehicles

#

If your Giannis Antetokounmpo and you’re damn near 7ft tall, then yeah, driving a GLS makes sense

#

But like, is a Tahoe really a more ā€œluxuriousā€ place to be than like a German luxury sedan

#

Apparently there are quite a few basketball players who drive Bentleys, but I think it’s all Bentaygas

fathom socket
# carmine summit buying something for enjoyment is in no way the same as buying a utility vehicle...

the thing is, mostly utility vehicles have a raised/higher cabin.
and as far as i can remember, it is suggested to have a vehicle with a seat the height of the hip for ergonomical reasons.
so it is healthy to have a higher vehicle, and with height, the vehicles need to be broader and longer to support stability on Higher speeds.

the utility nature of the most vehicles in that size/height class not to matter at all. just the fact that its easier to enter/leave than a sportscar where u do not sit, but kinda lay down almost on the road, making every entry and exit a little Challenge.

fathom socket
# carmine summit Most people say something like "i feel safer in big vehicles" but i drive medium...

I for my part drive a VW e-up currently. my first own bought vehicle.
yet, my next one will be something larger. not only because at work i commonly need to transport things, but also because its just too weak. its a hassle to overtake semitrucks and its not really a practical car on the countryside. especially with icy roads, snow, potholes and even a few field roads to cross once in a while.
so far i did not get stuck, but being able to securely and comfortable traverse terrain off-'road' is something different.
also its a pain when u have to drive over a few wood branches laying around and they get stuck below the drivetrain once in a while.

I'm planning to get something ridicious though. an ATV/quad about the same size as my VW e-up, but with 53" tires and about 2ft ground clearance. Actually its rated with slower max speed than the e-up, but thats fine. my priority lay more on torque and terrain traversal.

carmine summit
#

compare that to a vehicle that was designed to tow

a truck that weighs just over 2000kg and has brakes and suspension designed for way more than that

stoic ledge
#

Those cars are officially rated and tested with those weights

carmine summit
#

it's much safer and more comfortable

carmine summit
stoic ledge
#

So... you can max it out on vehicle X but not on vehicle Y?

carmine summit

when did I ever say that

stoic ledge

charred depot

the rated maximum on cars isnt really the maxiumum : )

carmine summit

towing 5000lbs with something rated to tow 15000 is much easier, safer, and more comfortable than towing 3300lbs with something rated at 3300lbs

stoic ledge

Meh driven multiple times with trailers up to the rated maximum, no problem at all

#

It's not like you're racing it around a track

#

And yeah there's quite a safety margin built in to it like Ged said

I mean, ofc a giant truck will pull it easier than a car with half the power

stoic ledge
elfin stone
#

I had free choice, just had to be capped at 5k

#

And NO estate

stoic ledge
#

I was specifically looking for a car on LPG, not too old... didn't gave me much choice. Mazda 2 "Bi-Fuel" (no official system, engine can“t handle it) and the Corsa D BiFuel were really the only 2 options

elfin stone
#

^^

LPG install at OSV PogChomp

#

Fill spot behind the fuel filler flap

elfin stone

Interesting

#

Astra and Corsa Apparently use the same Fuelcap

stoic ledge
#

OSV on the blanket on the car behind

charred depot
#

tanks really weigh that much

elfin stone
#

So that's how they do it

stoic ledge
#

OSV is where they also make the fahrschule models, police cars etc

charred depot
#

maybe just safety to avoid any back problems

stoic ledge
#

Probably Health (& safety) for back problems yes

jovial mauve
#

charred depot
#

ah, get real

elfin stone
#

Fun fact about the gold ones: they discontinued that colour because it had serious clouding issues

charred depot
#

thats with a dashcam which is good for low light aswell heh

jovial mauve
#

This is wo high beam

charred depot
#

if you drove here I imagine I would have honked at you by now :^)

jovial mauve

mfw a mini is coming over a summit towards you

stoic ledge
#

Mini LED's are the worst

#

🤮

charred depot
#

I wonder what % of them know the pain they are causing

jovial mauve
stoic ledge
#

100% of those that I encounter, as I just give them the high beams

stoic ledge
# jovial mauve

I mean those LED's are fun and all, but they should make them easily replaceable. If you breaks, you have to get an entire new unit

#

Which is just the stupidest idea ever

elfin stone
#

It’s too dark for a proper picture

#

I’ll get one tomorrow

charred depot
#

I watched the dashcam video of the guy I had "road rage" with following me with bright lights and im pretty sure he turns around and I flash and honk at him as he comes towards me.

#

didnt even know it was the same guy

jovial mauve
#

But yeah when it dies new unit it is

stoic ledge
#

Probably because you hadn“t had them long enough for them to get old enough or high enough mileage

#

I've seen it quite often on older like Audi Avant's rear lights

#

I think on the B8

elfin stone
#

But i found some pictures from the time I retrofitted the rear electrical windows

charred depot
#

seen a fair few seats with dying drl's

#

flickering away

elfin stone
#

And a pic that should show the clouding a little bit better, the lower hood is brighter than the upper

jovial mauve
#

But yes that a4
