i use that without snow š
But the roundabouts there are a catastrophe
In one day I've used 15
My record due to windshield getting screwed with mud all the time
Yeah, never again
Oh god. No.
Like 6 cars crashed there and I did like 1 hour overtime on my tachograf
Windscreen fluid costs around 40 SEK for 4 liter in Sweden, (ā¬3,75) it is kinda cheap
It depends where and which brand you buy it
I only use OEM washer fluids
||/s, I always whatever I can find in my parents garage||
Don't use the yellow bottles.
Do you also use Rainx?
Nah
Worn wiper blades is pain.
Don't forget the rear wiper ^^
Wuz dat? The only rear that gets wiped is my own.
Rear Window?
No rear wipers on the back of my car, nor truck.
Mainly depends on how the trunk is built
Ie I canāt see shit when itās raining and Iām on the Highway
Donāt understand why sedans donāt have rear wipers and hatchbacks do
Everyoneās like āitās the angleā and Iām likeā¦what???
Manufacturers cheap out on sedans
Have you ever seen cars
Itās simple
A toyota aygo has a rear wiper
And they cost about 50p
So that argument makes no sense either
Maybe it just looks awful to the designer of the car
Itās probably a design choice
I mean, on the Insignia sedan (hatchback) it's an optional extra
Not many people choose it
As it's ugly AF
sedans dont need it because of the angle :^|
Pfft
yea rear wipers on sedans looks so bad
Oh lord
But yeah you don't really need it
only acceptable on hatchbacks, vans, and suvs
theres tonnes of air flowing across the rear window of sedans it will self clean at relatively low speeds
The air moves it off by itself
more like high speed, but yea
Iām not a fan of Sedans to be honest, the trunk feels microscopic
my saab has to be going 70mph before its bloomin vertical front window will clear
that's just psychology. Sedan trunks are plenty for a lot situations
especially if the rear seats fold
Well, I have to fit a full blown Diving equipment into it
probably fits in more cars than you think
get a washin machine in a hatchback easy peasy
Exactly
Wagon > all
Mine has about 380 l
wagon and minivan
Or if you need more space: minivan
Wagons are cool
Yes
I need more minivans
small hatch power
so my neighbors think I'm extra weird
I could probably fit that in the trunk of a sedan tbh
cant fit a B205 in the boot of my sedan :^)
I always have access to that one for large stuff
its a very tall engine so needs enough space to go flat
Moar Astra's
If I'm importing a van, I want it to be a good one
maybe in a camry but :/
Sure, I love that car
like a diesel Estima
Lol
slow as dirt and super underpowered, but diesel
and Estima/Previa
but nah, I want to import like a Celsior or something else generic
the 305 seems to have similar boot space to the big 505

At that point I'd just buy the shittiest Tercel I can find
First pic is the now
atleast its not a saab engine
vauxhall people on their way to buy some good saabs just to rip the engine out and put it in their corsa
Eww
A super rusty one of these
https://youtu.be/LQ36dsLuXdY
1983 Toyota Tercel Wagon commercial.
Wait did you share my top secret plan?

||JK||
leave the saabs alone maan
the only reason mines is alive is because it didnt come with a turbo
that shall be resolved soon
Speaking of GB, I did some research and it looks like my car was built in Ellesmere Port
Mine is made in Eisenach
A car made in England, amazed it made it over the channel before falling to bits then
So, itās essentially a Vauxhall with Opel branding and left hand drive
vauxhall opel potato pitato
I did joke around with the idea to convert it to a Vauxhall branding with badges etc. but the I found out that the Astra was sold as Saturn in the states
Weren't earlier Astra H's made in Antwerp, Belgium?
But parts for that car are nonexistent in Europe with Saturn branding
Yep
Please don't, that's tacky
my Peugeot 305 is more expensive to insure than my mortified saab im malting.
I just want to use a peugeot 305 to do courier work is that so outrageous
Someone thought it was worth it to import a Saturn Astra
And yes that's an actual Saturn
Not just an Astra with a Saturn grill
Yes
what level of human do you have to be to import an ashtray
Do you have pictures of the inside by any chance?
oh, ok
what's with that additional screen in the speedometer?
astra H's had that here methinks
ok, i only know that the automatic cars do have a screen for the gear
but that one is a manual
which is additionally weird, as the saturns are US cars
And I did reprogram it, so no legal issues ^^
Yeab true... Maybe it's just a failed render
Apparently the car had 2000km more on the clock than the engine
Which is odd
Thatās the old one, amber isnāt that great if itās used too much
Replacement engine
Nope
Still need to flash the immobilizer out of my new engines ECU
Because it were exactly 2000 kilometers
And you donāt drive a car 2000 km to swap out the engine with a brand new one
but can you turn off all the lights except from the speedo fmmm
Well, you can reprogram the Speedo to shut on the lights only when the outside lights go on
Thatās the fun part of an OPCOM
You can do stuff that usually only the dealer can do
Tech 2's the same
Mm, but mine is white, that is actually pretty good
Tech 2 canāt program a speedlock
I think itās also called anti hijack
what a speed limiter?
No, the Car automatically locks itself at a certain speed
So that people canāt randomly open the door and pull you out like in GTA
That's also in the P-menu of the key
At least on Corsa D's, think Astra H is the same
my new engine wont make boost if it doesent have a speed input and I have a old ABS module so el problemo
Nope, its a feature that was officially discontinued after the first batch of cars

who knows why
perhaps the mechanisms werent up for it
š¤
all i can say is that i was able to program it back into a car from 2009
nope
whyd they remove it then
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
It's a bit complicated to activate, probably a lot of customers complained
you have to keep pressing the locking button until the car beeps
replacing door linkages in a GM car isnt something I want to do again
Ah it's different in the Corsa, you control it via the odometer screen
opel probably thought that the feature wasn't ready yet
Could be
But the effort for the powered rear windows was worth it. Add the Pano and you almost have a TwinTop
without the hassles of a TwinTop

as someone who lives in Scotland, not worth
it's worth it in germany as its way warmer in summer ^^
It's kinda sad such convertibles aren't available anymore
(C-segment convertibles I mean)
Or even small
Well, the mechanism is pretty fragile
I think the only B-segment convertible you can yet is the Mini Cabrio? And in the C-segment a T-Roc Convertible cross-over thingy š¤®
and you need special equipment for maintenance as you have to remove the whole roof for repairs, needs a special crane
Kek
and the roof cable tree is prone to break on that car
there are aftermarket flexible ones, but those cost a fortune
I bet they do
I almost got a twintop (but not an astra)
Tigra
Kek
and the gaskets were leaking, the whole car was damp
and the climate wasn't sealed either, you could see marking fluids all over with a uv lamp
all big no nos for a car
I'm really happy with the astra, it's comfortable and doesn't take much fuel
but it's an ugly car
last time i checked my car took about 6.8 l per 100 km
which is pretty good for a 2009 car
oof
But LPG which uses ~10-15% more
But also I usually have to drive a stretch of road which is terrible for my fuel economy
8x accelerating 0-100-0 for traffic lights
but isn't your country 99% flat?
I live in the "hilly" part
i heard you even had to build your own mountain

aah, wait
it was just an idea
Dutch journalist Thijs Zonneveld wrote a column proposing the construction of an artificial mountain in the flat Netherlands as a joke. But the idea has captured the country's imagination and Zonneveld is now looking into its feasibility. After all, he says, in the past the country managed to reclaim massive areas of land from the sea.
completely insane if you ask me
"I have dreamed of having a mountain in Holland since I was 15," he says.
He's calling š³š± Holland š¤®
Probably born in Northern or Southern Holland ^^
But yeah that's a Hollander which has never been anywhere else
I mean, there aren't mountains here
But enough hills
slightly
I should be able to theoretically get around 7l/100km with the new engine
My puegeout does 10l/100km but I go 140kmh
You got 307?
Well, I've had 307 1.6, quite liked it.
16.8l/100km
But then don't forget US fuel prices are low
Imagine getting that and paying Dutch prices
A bit of silliness to bring in the new year. Most of the time we have been exceedingly lucky with the weather on our French road trips - but in 2019 on the way back from Gaillon we encountered a huge downpour - so wet that it stopped the Darracq.
(Apologies if you're disappointed about me putting music and voice over the car noises again - I pr...
The Dutch have a mountain since 2010. Mount Scenery
It is a volcano on the Special municipality of Saba, quite a distance away from mainland
I always overlook the special ones even if I keep the ālandā thingy in mind
Get a small dent around the electric motors and stuff and then it might not work
The bigger issue is that the gears it operates on are made out of plastic
Oh god
And the brass ones they have in the aftermarket cost a fortune
Now just do that with some belt gears in the engine and it's good
And a known issue is that the roof opens, but wonāt retract into the trunk, and if you are unlucky it also wonāt close up again
And you have to dismantle half of it to perform a emergency closure
Congrats to whoever the hell buys a convertible
Well, if itās one of the later ones, they usually are in good shape
You have to bring it into a contracted shop though to inspect it thoroughly if you want to buy a Astra TT
Isn't astra a car by saturn
Speaking of Saturn's what's a cheap one to buy that will last a while
Also available in America
Opel engineered the car, GM rebadged it and sold it under various brands
I'm asking because soon like August 3rd is my birthday and then I turn 16 and will have to know what I'm doing rather buy expensive stuff lmao
Well, if you ask me, Iād buy a 2008-2009 Saturn Astra
But I donāt know if you are into hatchbacks or sedans
Reason I asked about Saturn was if I were to not get job mowing yards and stuff because that's kinda what I'm thinking about doing and just buying a truck
Sure
That one has some extra features you probably wonāt get with a US variant though, they didnāt sell with a panoramic roof
To me that seems like it would be decent car
It is, and it has a good fuel economy
Funny thing is how I thought they stopped making cars as well lol
Thing is I think also my dad did
I get about 40 mpg
Although Saturn's are definitely good at fuel efficiency
(Had to do the l/100km conversion)
Or from what I know about them
Yeah, they are mainly selling rebadged European cars (at least they did until Opel was sold) you need fuel economy over here
Actually does Saturn even make trucks just as a random question
Dunno
Saturn does not exist over here
It is mainly an equivalent to Opel
And if that applies to the US, they wonāt have trucks at all
They are extremely niche over here
I did some conversion, and fuel prices are about 8$ per gallon over here, on a good day
@lofty compass alright, looks like Saturn sold rebadged GM trucks, that was new to me
But the information you get from here is pretty unreliable
Some sources say that they sold one, some say they didnāt
You better look at Toyota etc. for one
Idk lol but the first vehicle I have used on a road was db30 which is basically a mini bike that is really meant for off road lol
By on road I mean of course up and down a small road
I mean thing is it was a mini bike and I definitely understand that cars are very different from something like a db30
There are literally 2 use cases for cars like ie Jeeps over here : Too much money available or you work on a Farm/In the Forest
And then trucks
Good for transporting heavy items and a bit of offroading
Well, try to park one in a narrow city
Population is extremely dense compared to the us
Oh
Fun
Actually isn't a semi truck technically capable of off road
Just not a good idea usually
GM rebadged cars for everywhere
Sometimes even giving cars which aren't related in any way giving them the same name š
In Australia you could get the Astra K as Holden Astra, but at the same time you could get the Chevrolet Cruze as Holden Astra
Completely different cars
Hey, that Holden badging looks cool
Opel Cascade -> Buick Cascade
Opel Insignia -> Buick Regal
So, GM had a whole division to come up with new names?
Yeah just a regular Astra just a different badge
Basically š
Oh boy
GM is great at rebadging stuff
Well, Opel still rebadges 100% of their stuff to Vauxhall
The also killed the real Holden Commodore in the US (RWD etc) and gave them back the Insignia as Holden Commodore... I mean the Insignia is great but it's not a Commodore
Well yeah Opel == Vauxhall, and that will never change
It's just brand recognition, Vauxhall has a big heritage in the UK and Opel is completely unknown
Ireland actually gets RHD Opel's š
But Opel's have always been Opel's (excluding vans), other markets got some "native" cars from the brand itself, some rebadged models from X, some rebadged mores from Y...
Mm
Look like that's Vauxhall xD
OOF Holden is actually gone from Australia/NZ
Guess GM couldn't keep it running without Opel's to rebadge xD
i like cars
forget cars get a fucking tank
i know someone that has a russian straight wing jet
or correction, they had one when i was 16
i really wanted this 69 camaro he was selling for a steal too but hindsight is 20/20
now this is a Merica vehicle
Isnt it Czech?
what
the jet
Thatās my cockpit at night ^^
Itās actually a very light blue
i like my orangish~
Interesting
oh a prndl
I don't have pics of my daily or I'd share that too lol
well, no nighttime pics anyway
I do like stick shift more than automatic, whatās your opinion about that?
Depends on the car and what you do with it
As fun as stick is, it doesn't suit more comfortable cars
While you can get this gen of Camry in manual, I wouldn't want it that way
never drove auto
same with my van
My Corolla I kinda wish was auto, but its kinda fun
But I wouldn't want an automatic RX-7
Sexy break
Well, mine is a compact class car, you Iām fine with that
Oh lord
yea, so is my Corolla. My reasoning behind wishing it was an auto was bc cruise control in the manual cars was rare af
and bc its a shitbox, the clutch is dying and I wish I didn't have to deal with that
well my gearbox exploded.. so new clutch anyways š
but I may be selling the Corolla very soon if I can't find a good reason to keep it
and then buy an auto Corolla with cruise in a year or so when I have a house, aka storage space
I do have cc with mine an I have to admit that itās sometimes a bit annoying
cruise control is awesome. I love it
wish my RX-7 had it, but its not like I drive it far enough to need it
Depends on the distances you drive
but if my buddies and I go to Deal's Gap in march, I am gonna have a sore ass right foot
The one that is one of the most dangerous roads in the world? Ur crazy
German Wikipedia says that itās one of the most dangerous roads
Had to go 60 miles with these
brake pads literally making a clicking noise the entire time as they fall into the low bits
Now THATS unsafe
Donāt you do 2 year inspections to catch such things?
yearly
It could be dangerous if you're stupid and/or a bad driver. But in of itself, isn't a very dangerous road; even if you get a little bit spirited
sliders seized deterioated quickly.
First time my peugeot was on a lift we found one of the front brake hoses had a set of mole grips clamped on to solve a leak
Now is new (also rear)
Oh geez
Such things usually donāt happen over here, we have mandatory vehicle inspections every 2 years, and those are usually extremely strict
oh no its rare the car isnt road legal
or some eastern tüv dudes do it D:
hasnt been on the road since the 90's
Well, the TĆV Rheinland is usually pretty reliable ^^
Well, then itās understandable
I just notice that the US has apparently way more cars that are considered unsafe over here
Im in the UK, the peugeot was test driven aswell.
With a very old timing belt which was probably playing with fire
One breath away from ripping?
Will find out soon
the car makes me quite sad as a 305 saloon costs double what a 305 estate costs to insure
probably all the taxi drivers in the 80's fault
Just hit 121212km on the mileage
I should be trading my 305 saloon once it has a MOT for this estate plus over £1k my way
the guy told me russian straight wing
Probably sold by russia but czech by design.
lots of stuff after the soviet union fell apart
who is then lol
Ranger Danger boys in this chat??
Yep not going anywhere for a few days
why? looks like perfect weather to be outside to me.
I am driving on Swedish roads this and past week on tires without spikes
My truck can't leave the drive way I have nothing to Carry lol
4wd brah
That's the best I can get
It's not going anywhere I only moved it so no trees will fall on it and crush it
Dwayne āThe Rockā Johnson gave a bus full of tourists the surprise of their lives when he rolled up next to them and said hello.

Whatās the rock driving here?
F-150 maybe?
That was my guess - just from the cut away on the side window
Yeah, that's usually a clear giveaway.
And it's also in his list of vehicles that he owns.
I didnāt see his list but itās the only candidate from the list online
Which is basically an F150, a bunch of rando muscle cars, a prowler and an Escalade
The f150 is clearly the daily in that list
I have a weird fascination with what rich people drive
Like when you have āfuck youā money and can actually drive all your dream cars
What do people drive every day
In America the answer is Tahoe, Escalade, F150
In the UK I think itās mostly Range Rovers
well even with all the money in the world, many people donāt want to daily those types of cars because they arenāt practical
hell my dad is not wealthy but he got a c8 at msrp, and even though itās more practical than other āsports/superā cars he still dailies a truck
why daily a truck or SUV though
doesn't make sense
I live on a farm, I daily small cars
had to take the truck today for reasons but normally it only gets used for hauling stuff
wagons are good, but wish I had less boring one
Buy one then
I agree. I donāt get it, but lots of them seem to
try towing a car with a wagon. doesnt work very well.
we have to tow 5000+ lbs once in a while so a wagon can't do nearly everything we need
also pretty hard to put a 100 gallon fuel tank in the back of a wagon but it fits easily in a truck
My father actually towed a fricking bus with a audi 80
heh theres a video of a modified 1.9 tdi passat towing a loaded truck. It costed a clutch and the front tyres but yknow
up a slight incline
Audi 80 is nice
I think ik where an Audi 100 avant quattro is, looks really nice to me for some reason
only like 12 of those in the UK i'm prolly mistaken lol
It ended up with piston flying out of the engine
I really wish Subaru would revisit the "Gentleman's Pickup" platform, whether it's a Baja revival or otherwise.
Because BOF trucks and SUVs can ādo it allā
With a Suburban you can take 8 people, a bunch of stuff, and tow a trailer all at the same time
You can also fold the seats down to carry long or large items without a trailer or roof rack
People would say āwell get a wagon thenā but they donāt sell wagons in the US and CA. Thatās why we have so many crossover SUVs. The crossover is North Americas wagon.
Although if I lived in Europe I would buy a wagon
You almost never need to carry 8, a bunch of stuff or tow anything
Well the idea is you can
It's expensive to operate, and guzzles gas like a school bus
You can, but don't
Instead you fuck the environment and burn a hole in your wallet
I used to regularly take 7 ppl around, not unheard of
I guess 6 not including myself
Last time I checked a normal car only has 5 seats
Also a van seats 8 and has more storage than an SUV
So buying a car with 3 rows was what I needed at the time
Why would I buy a van that seats 12 if I only need to carry 6
Because it can carry 8, has a crap ton of storage, and can tow things.
And it'll be better on gas than a Suburban.
Easier to maneuver in tight spots.
Are you talking about a minivan?
yes
Because when I hear van I think of this
If that's what you want, go for it.
Still cheaper than a Suburban
And since you brought up utility, vastly more utilitarian.
Vans and minivans arenāt the same, just wanted to clarify š
Then why did you say van if you meant minivan?
And to be honest they just werenāt on my radar at the time
Well you are right
People keep acting like they must drive something that'll get even that 1% edge use case.
I imagine most SUVs with a transfer case have never seen low range, or towed more than a couple thousand pounds.
But hey, who am I to say. It's not like gas prices are that volatile... right?
If you don't need a truck on a daily basis, don't buy a truck to daily drive
It's that simple
I still want a Porsche tho
there's a difference between "I want to buy x vehicle because I like it" and "I want to buy x vehicle because it can do something I might need someday"
that or a Jag
I found a XJS V12 fairly close to me.
That or a first year 928
sorry 924
Still screwed if the clutch goes bad
I had a Tahoe and for me it was kind of a mix. Like I said I used to have to carry 6 people plus myself around. (Young group of friends always out doing things) and I wanted a big suv
I don't want to drop half the drivetrain to replace that.
Pulling transaxles is easy
Gotta drop the torque tube, trans, and take apart a few other parts.
And through the same vein of the conversation earlier, why buy a sports car when an econobox can get you around much lighter on gas. An econobox also has much more cargo space and is cheaper. Sometimes people just want a truck/SUV or a sports car.
914s are only slightly different (engine bolted to transmission insead of driveshaft assembly) and you can get that out in an hour or two
I own 3 volkswagens, my dad dailies a volkswagen and has a porsche 914
Just saying the āthere are other vehicles that are potentially betterā thing works for any car you could possibly want
F150s are one of the best selling vehicles in canada
Buying a car because it's fun vs a car that "can do anything" are two different things.
I guarantee half of the people who buy them would be fine with a sedan
If I wanted a pragmatic car I'd get a Corolla. Which I got.
Not really that different, both are reasons to want a vehicle.
You can want something that can do it all yet never actually do anything with it, your choice
Same way old ladies have sports cars and never drive them how they should be driven
buying something for enjoyment is in no way the same as buying a utility vehicle because it's utilitarian, then not utilizing it
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Like I said both are reasons to want something, just different reasons
Maybe they enjoy driving trucks, I know people like that
Or they enjoy the idea that they can do anything with their vehicle
I'd be willing to bet I've done more with a MK4 Volkswagen Jetta than most people have with an F150
More towing, more hauling, more off road
Ok
Point is that most of the people daily driving trucks have no reason to be other than they think they need a truck so they can take their bicycle camping or something
there are plenty of legitimate reasons to daily drive a truck
But for most people there's no point
Ok well thatās fair, you donāt need a truck to take a bike somewhere. But I think most of it is that people just want a truck and part of the justification is āit can do anythingā
When āI want itā isnāt enough justification to whoever theyāre telling
Problem is that their anything can be accomplished with a quarter of what they got.
They can do more than they'll ever do at the cost of being unable to park it and pay dearly at the pump twice a week.
they could spend less on something nicer and more practical for them that would save them money long term and be equally capable
Not saying my Jeep is crap, but it is crap.
At least it's wintery outside, so I can justify it for the most part
I donāt see a problem, aside from being unable to park. If you have a large vehicle at least know how to park it ffs
i mean i can parallel park an F550 plow truck lol
Most people say something like "i feel safer in big vehicles" but i drive medium duty trucks and small cars all the time and to me being able to avoid a crash seems safer than having a big crumple zone
I agree that reason is silly
I think trucks are actually less safe
They crush anything in their path and roll over easily
And they're harder to change direction, and harder to stop
Yeah
Worse weight distribution so they slide easier
soon I will have the best of all worlds, slow, bad handling, light and rusty
and structurally challanged
I mean reallly rich people donāt care about gas mileage, so itās probably unsurprising they drive fuel inefficient vehicles
Itās a but surprising itās usually giant vehicles
If your Giannis Antetokounmpo and youāre damn near 7ft tall, then yeah, driving a GLS makes sense
But like, is a Tahoe really a more āluxuriousā place to be than like a German luxury sedan
Apparently there are quite a few basketball players who drive Bentleys, but I think itās all Bentaygas
the thing is, mostly utility vehicles have a raised/higher cabin.
and as far as i can remember, it is suggested to have a vehicle with a seat the height of the hip for ergonomical reasons.
so it is healthy to have a higher vehicle, and with height, the vehicles need to be broader and longer to support stability on Higher speeds.
the utility nature of the most vehicles in that size/height class not to matter at all. just the fact that its easier to enter/leave than a sportscar where u do not sit, but kinda lay down almost on the road, making every entry and exit a little Challenge.
I for my part drive a VW e-up currently. my first own bought vehicle.
yet, my next one will be something larger. not only because at work i commonly need to transport things, but also because its just too weak. its a hassle to overtake semitrucks and its not really a practical car on the countryside. especially with icy roads, snow, potholes and even a few field roads to cross once in a while.
so far i did not get stuck, but being able to securely and comfortable traverse terrain off-'road' is something different.
also its a pain when u have to drive over a few wood branches laying around and they get stuck below the drivetrain once in a while.
I'm planning to get something ridicious though. an ATV/quad about the same size as my VW e-up, but with 53" tires and about 2ft ground clearance. Actually its rated with slower max speed than the e-up, but thats fine. my priority lay more on torque and terrain traversal.
Not really that common here, many wagons can tow like 1500kg / 3300lbs which is for 99.5% of the people with an occasional tow
Honestly I don't understand towing laws here
Like if you are towing over and the car + trailer mass is over 3.5 tons you need box and also tachograf
Laws have changed here. But I'm just so confused. I know for sure in Poland you need box for the gates

i got a quite back for the black wrap for the car and its F š¦

wrap is 3025,- rims are 160,- per rim logos are 185,- incl montage

also need to get a H&R spring set to get it a little bit higher up
ok, so you're pulling 1500kg with a car that weighs 1500kg and has brakes and suspension designed for that weight
compare that to a vehicle that was designed to tow
a truck that weighs just over 2000kg and has brakes and suspension designed for way more than that
Those cars are officially rated and tested with those weights
it's much safer and more comfortable
still doesn't mean you should max out the towing capacity
So... you can max it out on vehicle X but not on vehicle Y?
when did I ever say that
Idk if trucks can tow up to what they are rated... why can't a car?
the rated maximum on cars isnt really the maxiumum : )
towing 5000lbs with something rated to tow 15000 is much easier, safer, and more comfortable than towing 3300lbs with something rated at 3300lbs
Meh driven multiple times with trailers up to the rated maximum, no problem at all
It's not like you're racing it around a track
And yeah there's quite a safety margin built in to it like Ged said
I mean, ofc a giant truck will pull it easier than a car with half the power
I think here in Sweden. You're only allowed to tow the weight of the vehicle at most. Unless you have a 5th wheel or something.
Towed a car home last year behind a truck, 7 hour drive and it was incredibly easy compared to towing even a 1000lbs camping trailer behind my car.
pretty sure my friends little land rover is plated for more than double its weight heh, cant remember
I think it's probably the same throughout Europe, max tow rating is fixed and dedicated to the car, probably on your ownership title or whatever
So a car with a GVWR of 3,500 kg like the G-Wagon. Could tow up to 3,500 kg. If you had the license for it.
I bet you do, but that's not a common thing to do in Europe
Oh, one big thing between Europe and USA is the tongue weight. I think Europe allowed a much, much lower tongue weight.
I want to say in the 10% region?
G 500 weighing 2330kg empty can tow 3500kg

Yeah. I mean the rated max weight of the vehicle.
G 500
Empty: 2329kg
Load capacity: 821kg
Max allowed weight: 3150kg
Max towing wieght: 3500kg
Your 320i with a max allowed weight of 1895kg can tow up to 1600kg
theres alot of estate cars here rated for well over their weight
If my database is correct š
The nice thing that we have here, is a towing calculator.
So you add the license plates of the vehicle, and the trailer. And it spits out Yay, Nay. And how much.
My friend got close to 55mph with my wonderful trailer
That's cool. I have to look up the approved weights of the car (license card or license plate check) and the I have to figure it out myself š
who needs trailer brakes when you can have deflated front "trailer" tyres
Max 2000kg, that's not bad no
not bad but I know alot of people have gone over that heh
Kek well sure but it's rated for 2000kg xD
weellll
I may, or may not have towed a large boxed trailer with a tiny car.
I could do with one but have just crammed everything in to my boot thusfar
Last time I towed something was with my uncle's CX-5, which is apparently also rated for 2000kg. Weird thing is, the manual CX-5 is rated for "only" 1800kg
Get lower speed limits if you have a trailer
Trailer: max 55mph
Without trailer (during the day): 60mph
Yeah that's not going to make a huge difference for me xD
Qubo
ah its 10mph less here
Citroen Nemo
:^(
Let me check what the Nemo was rated for...
Well in the evening it's max 130kmh/80mph here, but during the day it's limited to 100km/h š©
interesting
"to reduce pollution"
continues doing 130kmh for 1 second too long š
Tomorrow last day of Swedish winter driving for me
I guess theres a grace period?
The Nemo might only be rated for 600 kg.
I have no idea, it's active from 6AM-7PM that's all I know
They say pollution is why we cant have a 80mph limit
that and the fact a large amount of people already do 80mph anyway so it would effectively make people start going 90mph.
I hate Dutch 60mph limit
Oh, I think that trailer is pushing over 600 kg. But don't tell anyone about that.
People: "WeLl YoU cAn'T dRiVe 80 mPh AnYwAyS aS tHe RoAds ArE tOo BusY"
Meanwhile I can drive 90mph no problem every day š
As a general rule over here. If you attach a trailer. Then you're limited to 80 kmh at the most.
Was it the gas Nemo? Diesel is 1000kg
Diesel.
Trailer == 90km/h here
That's 1000kg
I finally found a parts source for the 305, they have like 1 or 0 of most things left :^(
Because of Peugeots break down very easily
Hmm weird
Man. Towing with 70 hp was really not fun.
Still more reliable than any VW product
In Germany trailers is allowed to drive 100km/h if they complies to some rules
The diesel drivetrain of the phase 2 305 is very well regarded
80 km/h here in Sweden regardless.
No way, My fathers VW have driven more than 1 million km now
I've driven a Berlingo 1.9d once... without a turbo. Accelerating, slamming through the gear.... I look at the speedo... 40km/h

90 km/h in my Swedish theory book, (1970 one)
That old Transporter? Sure. Try it with anything since the T5 Transporter, and you won't make it
many cars can get to a million KM, but how much do they cost along the way.
Mine's a tad newer. 90 km/h is just for trucks without a trailer.
I have about regular trailers
I need an FSO Polonez with an XUD but they all have the steering wheel on the wrong side
how am I meant to see around people to overtake in my 50hp car
Yeah XUD was great
What about the current hDI of the Boxer?
not followed that far but id happily have an early hdi, was considering buying a 406 estate.
HDI's are also fine except the 1.6 16v HDI
16 8v HDI is then again bullet proof
HDI of the Boxer is the 2.0 I think?
Not really sure how they are tbh
Depending on the engine they're PSA or Iveco/Fiat engines
The one I might be buying has an ECU fault, problem you wont have with an XUD
- Buy with ECU fault
- Remove ECU
- Profit
Ā£500 asking could get it lower but I dont really neeed it
cant stand the 306 estate rear lights

Sedan, hatch or wagon?
We had a sedan, hatch and a wagon
1994 Sedan, 1998 Wagon and 2001 hatch
the rear is just such a let down compared to the sharp front
The rear doors on the Break are the same as on the Sedan
And maybe even the 5d hatchback, not sure
Oof yeah probably even the same for the hatchback
But yeah I get what you're saying, everything is rectangular/hard corners and then the rear lights are rounded AF
They drove great tho
until the rear beam seizes solid

Idk we never had that happen
The 306 Sedan had the 1.4 TU3, the Break the 1.6 TU5 and so did the hatchback
its a common failure ofcourse comes with age
Also funny we had all 3 Phases of the car
did you keep them long
Uhm we all had them until they were 10 years old
ah
yeah old peugeots can be a bit of nightmare fuel for rear suspension
theres specialist companies that rebuild them but none a for 305 estate šæ
š¢
you need a custom fabricated spring compressor to take apart 305 est rear axles
better trust those welds on your fabbed spring compressor too or š
what my friend would do is kill off a citroen c15 van for its rear axle
I think the springs might be slightly stiffer but it beats being seized or making horrible noises
That's a very interesting design
Oof only 1 MOT advisory in 20 year: in 2020 they noted 1x excessive oil leak, and that's it
Was that it also like that on the 306? Tbh can't remember
sort of similar
yeah, the saloon 305's have a bit more "conventional" suspension
estate and vans have the waterworks version
Cool, didn't know that
The more you know
The 307 had a more traditional setup again
It was also less deep than the 306 Break's š¢ We had two large suitcases which could fit in the 306 but not in the larger 307 xD
305 est
tis good, its not that big of a car either
ofcourse safety structure fogettaboutit
Yeah you can notice how much thinner the sides etc are
But that makes sense for the era
tesla getting close
mfw you cant take your cybertruck on the nurburgring, if they ever become a reality.
Yeah. Big if there.
yeah explain tourist bus drives on the ring then?
After hours.
Not while it's just a public street.
nah man. ive seen a bus while tourist drive
Then it's very likely still something planned with the whole place at Nurburg.
maybe š https://youtu.be/LX5Y1jcoUXE?t=27

h...
Fun fact. Insurance companies won't cover you if anything happens on the ring. In many cases they have something written as it won't cover it if you're traveling on a one-way toll road in Germany. Which is what the Nurburgring is.
Yeah, the fact that they have an escort there says something.
But I'm guessing a big part of the weight restriction is because of brakes, and the barriers only being able to take so much.
just found out i have a tow bar yeey
It's also very expensive because besides the car you've wrecked, you also need to pay the repair bills of the track/guard rail/... and the downtime of the track
Kek how did you not know š
Along with any other vehicles that might have wrecked because of you.
TF
A-Team.
people on reddit be like $45k is affordable.
I must be poverty level 1000 or these people need a wage cut
Naah, they just like having Debt
It depends on the context. $45k for a house. Or for a bicycle?
electric car shite
Your house is electric too. Same difference.
house doesent move though
house lasts more than 10 years easily too : )
well with some of the construction work these days
As they say.
You can sleep in a car, but you can't race a house.
I mean, the Astra L Estate looks really nice: https://www.opel.de/content/dam/opel/master/vehicles/astra-st-2022/21x9/opel_astra-sportstourer_exterior-roof-front_21x9_asst22_e01_117.jpg?imwidth=1920
It was hidden, also the cord to extend it was behind a panel
The wheels are in the base version
giv steelies and money back
Weird, that doesn't seem like the factory solution it it?
Think looks good the wheels
Those wheels on that image are the top trim wheels (GS-Line, and even there Optional I think)
Base is steelies xD
But yeah I like those wheels
Ill make a clip gimme a sec
I'm very curious to see the new Astra IRL
I just took a look: The Top Series Hybrid Limousine costs about 49k ā¬
Yeah it's not cheap, especially not the PHEV
Well, Corsas had a integrated Bike Mount, i expect everything from those manufacturers
FlexFix? Almost every model had it as an optional extra
Nope
š¤
Aah
You could get it on almost any model around 2010
Could Astras come with one?
Astra J yes
Astra H no
Antara, Adam, Corsa D, Meriva B, Astra J, Zafira (Tourer) C, Insignia A and Mokka are the models that came with FlexFix I think
Such a weird option
And that it wasn't for the H is obvious, the OG is from 2004 and the refit from 2007 (though it would be a cool thing for the limousine)
I actually thought it was a great idea, and I'm sad it's gone
Probably not enough orders
You did sacrifice the spare wheel well tho
and the potential for a convenient LPC retrofit
Yup too expensive to develop sadly, + you had a different rear floor plate which is expensive in production
Meh Opel also cancelled all LPG versions
š¢
I have a factory LPG fitted Corsa, LPG system is fitted by OSV (Opel Special Vehicles)
Well, Vauxhall did a LPG version of the H, but it's a bit shoddy implemented
Ah yes I've seen it tucked away like that, BMW has the same location, but I never saw a system where you had to pull a string lol
Was it?
Me neither but hey nice to have
Can always come in handy
Mm, they drilled an additional Hole into the chassis for the refill slot
OOF, mine is just behind the regular filler cap
BUT it affected the fuelmeter in the speedometer and BC
I think that's not an official factory install I think... that might be installed like that by Vauxhall UK or something
Here is one
This is now sold but ....see all our lpg cars at www.eco-cars.net
Factory LPG Corsa came with a BC delete xD
And it's in the Parts Catalogue
Yeah on the Astra H you could also get LPG, on both the 1.4 and 1.6 even
Even though the 1.4 isn't Gas Proof
You need a special Cylinder Head
I know the 1.2 I have can run really well on LPG, and also the 1.4T in the Astra J/Insignia A/Meriva B/Mokka A can run well on LPG
I do know from Experience the the 1.8 runs really well on LPG too
Mm, the Estate we have is a XE, MJ 05
And actually the reason why i wanted my car š

I was specifically looking for a car on LPG, not too old... didn't gave me much choice. Mazda 2 "Bi-Fuel" (no official system, engine can“t handle it) and the Corsa D BiFuel were really the only 2 options
^^
OSV on the blanket on the car behind
tanks really weigh that much
So that's how they do it
OSV is where they also make the fahrschule models, police cars etc
maybe just safety to avoid any back problems
Probably Health (& safety) for back problems yes
- can be lowered down without scratching anything
bah chuck it in there
was great having HSE come in while I was using a lathe with no goggles
That's the only Vid i ever found about the Astra MK5 Assembly:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rrUi5MgTwc
Opel Astra H / Vauxhall Astra MK5
Uhm you used to be able to get atleast photos from GM Media but I think the old Opel stuff is gone now :/
looks for high beam symbol
There is ONE official one on YT though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkEK8gdMXnM
Ah that's the Antwerp one
Its auto high beam or adjuatable whatever
ah, get real
Fun fact about the gold ones: they discontinued that colour because it had serious clouding issues
thats with a dashcam which is good for low light aswell heh
if you drove here I imagine I would have honked at you by now :^)
Nothing i can do only turn it off haha
That's deffo the Netherlands, i recognize that Central lining colour
Like the enitre lights
LED?
I think so yeah with some xenon aswell
pull out infront of me >no response
having aids lights >worst person around
Ah I thought they just discontinued it because it was an old colour which nobody wanted anymore
Yeah buddy
That colour system is the stupidest system ever imho
Allright calm down
Oh god
It has to be in that Dark golden tone
Every single vehicle license plate has fricking 666
The Dutch have speed by road marking program, it is called Duurzaam Veilig
A lot of cars went back to the factory because of this ^^
Because of thermoplastic?? š
my calm is directly tied to oncoming headlight intensity.
Tbh I never really noticed that, I shall take a second look if I ever see a champagne Astra again
Sec, I#ll make a pic of the roof, it's the worst there
Think a guy here has a champagne astra here
modern car headlights arent too bad when the ground is completely level
but that is not where I live
That color is actually named Papyrus
@elfin stone
This is true
There's also some place with blue
Can“t remember where
Or what it does
But it exists
mfw a mini is coming over a summit towards you
I wonder what % of them know the pain they are causing
100% of those that I encounter, as I just give them the high beams
I mean those LED's are fun and all, but they should make them easily replaceable. If you breaks, you have to get an entire new unit
Which is just the stupidest idea ever
I watched the dashcam video of the guy I had "road rage" with following me with bright lights and im pretty sure he turns around and I flash and honk at him as he comes towards me.
didnt even know it was the same guy
This has been the case for 90% of my cars but never had one die on me
But yeah when it dies new unit it is
Probably because you hadn“t had them long enough for them to get old enough or high enough mileage
I've seen it quite often on older like Audi Avant's rear lights
I think on the B8
And a pic that should show the clouding a little bit better, the lower hood is brighter than the upper
My currenr car is high milage
But yes that a4
Though discordās compression makes it hard to see
Manual -> power = power drill on the crank š
Side pic was clearer xD
Yeah seen plenty of those failed, also Avant's
