And the combination if your towing over 3500kg. Towing below 3500kg (but above 750kg) you need a BE license (car + trailer)

Standard car license (B) is towing up to 750kg, and max car/combination weight of 3500kg

Exception: if car + 750kg trailer is over 3500kg, you can drive car + 750kg trailer (so theoretically the max you can drive is 4250kg if the car is exactly 3500kg)

It's distracting because you have to navigate through that screen to control anything- when you have a stack of buttons in the center console, you can better control things from muscle memory alone.

The former is far safer because of those buttons that are static and allow you to remember where things are more easily, without navigating through menus on the touchscreen on a Tesla, for example.

And the screen that is more distracting is clear

I'm not making it a bigger issue than it is. That's the entire reason GM has stuck with what it's done for the last 5 years in terms of how it structures its screens- while the Ford Mach E and Ram 1500 got vertical screens, all GM's vehicles have horizontal screens. Making sure that these screens aren't distracting is extremely important, and buttons keep them from becoming such.

There is no reason to put simple controls into a touchscreen, it's that simple. It also makes the overall vehicle less reliable.

my son cracked the screen in my modern car and I cant afford the replacement yet

My car has a night function which basically disables all lights in the cluster etc except the speedo, but modern cars with these massive screens will counter that issue by just making the headlights aids bright.
