It never ran?

#

:P

charred depot
#

thats not a car thats a

summer totem
#

Slowest car I've had was a pink 1.1L Peugeot 106

#

Did 165 tho

charred depot
#

track day machine

summer totem
#

And racing stripes

charred depot
#

Its actually very rare, id feel bad.

summer totem
#

The peug went 3 wheeling in turns

charred depot
#

there is only 30 left in the UK and this is one of the good ones

#

30 includes saloon, estate and van models

#

I bet the guy in the back has seen his life flash before him many of times

stoic ledge
#

Hope you fixed the corroded brake lines, wheel bearing and ball point before taking it to the track PogChomp

charred depot
#

nosy fucker lol

#

my car has had brake hose advisories since 2011

#

magically disappeared without them being replaced, but they look totally fucked

stoic ledge
#

I think corroded brake lines are immediate failure here

charred depot
#

2017

off side rear tyre cracked on inner side wall
rear exhaust corroded
Nearside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrules (3.6.B.4e)
Offside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrules (3.6.B.4e)
Nearside Rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
general corrosion to under side of vehicle
#

shlight

stoic ledge
#

I think the only advisory for brakes we can get is if the discs are close to being worn out, but still above the minimum value

charred depot
#

we have so many things that can be given as advisories

#

some of the scummy places put tonnes on to scare people

stoic ledge
#

I've had

  • indicator colour not orange (the orange coat was peeling off from the bulbs, so just replaced them, garage even did that for free pog)
  • failed emissions tax (injectors they replaced the year before (warranty), one was still faulty apparently, so replaced again for free)
  • low tire thread (advisory, 1.6mm-2.5mm), which I actually checked and found that it was fault, lowest point I could find was 2.7mm šŸ™ƒ )
  • leaky shock rear (just started leaking the week before inspection, I asked them to look at it but they first inspected it and then fixed it instead of the other way round 🄲 )

And then nothing the past 2 years

#

My brother apparently got a "wrongly adjusted low beam"... which is odd as they level automatically lol

#

Some people here think inspection is maintenance 🄲 So it's glad we atleast have something, otherwise some would never take their car in

#

Personally I don't mind inspections

#

If your car is safe, it'll pass. It's just the bare minimum tbh

charred depot
#

Im much more kalm now that I have a welder

stoic ledge
#

Even the biggest shitbox can pass if it just has some minimum stuff

#

20 year old tires? No problem, just needs more than 1.6mm of thread

#

Lol

charred depot
#

thats my friends car

#

awh though they might have done that

stoic ledge
charred depot
#

its almost fixed

stoic ledge
charred depot
#

he works full time and has about 12 other cars to deal with so understandable

stoic ledge
#

94,724 miles : pass
95,823 miles : failed big time

charred depot
#

yeah that pass was definetely eh

#

how do we say it

stoic ledge
#

Just 1 year and 1100 miles difference

charred depot
#

dubious at best

stoic ledge
#

LOL

#

gg

charred depot
#

since another rotten chevette was sacrificed for this chevette its also got a new engine in the time is been off the road being fixed

stoic ledge
#

Nice

stiff burrow
#

In my state we don’t have vehicle inspections but I think it’s a good idea to implement them

#

Too many rusted out and unsafe cars

eager grove
#

That is bananas

#

So you can run an unsafe crap bucket as long as you want?

#

Wild

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I'm actually glad we have inspections

#

Otherwise we'd have way more POS on the road

#

I'm happy to pay a few tenners a year to make sure that's the case

#

It's like 40 bucks but often if you combine it with a service it's even "free"

stiff burrow
#

Case in point

#

I don’t live in texas, this car is just from texas

#

In Michigan you only need to get a vehicle inspected if it has a salvage title. No emissions testing either

stoic ledge
#

That's just a special Lightweight edition

eager grove
#

fucking ridiculous

timber oar
#

I pray we never have the government decide to have inspections like that here

#

Emissions are bad enough to deal with

waxen coral
#

No it isnt

#

You can reflash the Alpina B3 tune on the transmission for faster shifting

#

The 330i, 530i, 130i and any other "30i"s have a different variant of the N52 engine, specifically the intake manifold is a 3 stage intake with 2 DISA valves

#

325 and 328 dont get that intake, and have a different tune respectively

#

325i with an N52B30 makes 215(ish) 328i makes 230(ish) and the 330i makes 270(ish)

#

Atleast in north american markets

#

Its also possible to retrofit a 3SIM to any N52 except the N52B25 (afaik) since the harness is all there, you have to just install it, install DISA, and code your cars computer to be able to use it

#

like, an afternoon job

#

Differenzierte Sauganlage

stiff burrow
#

video of me flooring it onto the expressway coming later today

waxen coral
#

Its actually because E90s run SUPER hot

#

like, unusually hit

#

hot

#

due to emissions

#

The run at nearly 105° to 110° at operating temperatures

#

And so BMW felt as though people would get really freaked out when they see that their car is boiling

#

That's the only way to make a naturally aspirated inline 6 and have it pass emissions

#

Can you tell i woke up and started scrolling through the chat

#

I wish my car didn't do this every time i put on the defogger

#

why blast it?

#

LET ME DECIDE

stiff burrow
#

thats an interesting design choice

#

my car has two defogger buttons, one just routes the fan to the defogger and keeps everything else the same, the other sets the fan to full blast and only routes air to the defogger

waxen coral

thats a sweet car

Wow

waxen coral

wait no

#

thats a BMW 2002

fathom socket
#

Never seen one like this good shape

waxen coral

its from 1970s and on

fathom socket
#

Oh gotcha

waxen coral
#

wait sorry sprry

fathom socket
#

No worries lol

waxen coral
#

2002 is 1968 to 1976, 2002 Turbo is from 1973

fathom socket
#

Model years can be very confusing

stiff burrow

@waxen coral do you like old BMWs?

Very cool looking seats and a manual transmission

summer totem
waxen coral
#

Its an N52 with DGI and DISA

summer totem
#

325 still is 3.0 from sept 07 onwards in eu

waxen coral
#

Yeah the EU got the N53, we didn't, however i dont like the N53 because its direct injection vs port injected

summer totem
#

Hpfp issues

waxen coral
summer totem
#

And injector

waxen coral
#

carbon buildup in intake runner

summer totem
#

Walnut blast + oil air seperator

waxen coral
#

Which you will HAVE to do because the previous owner probably didnt do it

#

Id rather skip that noise and have port injection, less points of failure

waxen coral
#

N55 is the single twin scroll turbo

summer totem
waxen coral
#

No

#

The only models to ever get the N54 are the 335i, 535i, 135i and onward

#

The BMW N54 is a twin-turbocharged straight-six petrol engine that was produced from 2006 to 2016. It is BMW's first mass-produced turbocharged petrol engine and BMW's first turbocharged petrol engine since the limited-production BMW M106 was discontinued in 1986. The N54 debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show and was launched in the 335i model o...

Go to "versions"

summer totem

Hm ok

waxen coral

the 330i and down never got forced induction

summer totem

That's true

civic spoke

M54 owner. Checking in.

summer totem
#

And i want just that

#

3.0, n/a

waxen coral
civic spoke
#

I only have the M54B22, tho.

waxen coral
civic spoke
#

Also. If you're wanting a newer N/A inline six from BMW. Aren't you looking for the N52 then?

waxen coral
#

There's nothing newer than that

#

Last naturally aspirated inline 6

civic spoke
#

That's what I mean 'newer'. Made up until 2015.

waxen coral
#

everything after that is I6T or I4T

dense shard
#

Shame

civic spoke
waxen coral
#

Yeah yeah

#

N52 is a pretty good engine, the valvetronic is nice though hit or miss when it comes to maintaince, luckily most of the issues are very easy to repair like VCG, OFHG, OPG or Vanos and whatnot

dense shard
#

I'll stick with Toyota

waxen coral
#

No thanks, toyota is my least favorite manufacturer

dense shard
#

Shame

#

The new Corolla is excellent

waxen coral
#

Literally ive yet to have a worse car than a toyota

stiff burrow
#

toyota was good 30 years ago, it's been going downhill since then

civic spoke
#

I just went "lolwat". Since the old 7 series could be had as a 730i. So a 3.0 liter, N/A i6. And it's where you find the newest N52 engines.

dense shard
#

You haven't driven much

#

It's going as well as ever

waxen coral
#

I had 2 toyotas, both just died

dense shard
#

The AE86 isn't the greatest car ever made

civic spoke
# waxen coral wdym?

If you want as new of an N52 engine as possible. Then you need to get a 7 series.

waxen coral
#

Oh

#

Well yeah but ehhhhhh

#

7 series is too heavy for a 3 litre

stiff burrow
#

who needs N/A when you can have a supercharger šŸ˜ šŸ˜

civic spoke
#

Still 250+ hp.

waxen coral
waxen coral
civic spoke
#

If I get an E46 330i. Then I would love to throw a supercharger on that...

waxen coral
#

if you're getting the 7 series you're getting the V8, why even bother with the 3 litres

#

just anemic

dense shard
#

Cheaper

#

And not everyone needs 400 horsepower

civic spoke
waxen coral
#

i suppose, in that case is go with a 5 series instead

dense shard
#

Why tho

#

What if you want the big one

waxen coral
#

Much better suited to its own drivetrain

stiff burrow
#

if i was buying a 7 series i'd get the v12 tbh

civic spoke
#

In that case you might as well go with a 3 series instead. Much better suited to its own drivetrain.

dense shard
#

I don't trust German cars to last

So hard pass for me

my sample size is 2 toyotas and they both sploded

How

Sounds like you money shifted

waxen coral
dense shard
#

How the hell did you do that

waxen coral
#

If by money shift you mean shifting into 5th on the highway

dense shard
#

No

waxen coral
#

4th to 5th

#

at like 3k rpm

civic spoke
#

Looking at the used car site now. €21,000 for a 2014 730i

what toyotas then

worst car ive ever driven was a late 2000s dodge dart, that thing was a total piece of shit

2010 mazda 2 terrible due to the low profile tyres

friends camry with 13" rims and baloon tyre is dreamy

waxen coral

thats what im saying

I didnt money shift

ah

waxen coral

kept up witb maintaince

I prefer sidewall over rimmage

waxen coral

regardless, i got a Toyota Matrix after that, and it also died on me

charred depot
#

need 16's on the saab for the brakes im getting though

summer totem
waxen coral
#

toyota junk, bad build quality, all they have going for them is simple design and ease of repair

summer totem
#

my 15"s with semis have stiffer sidewalls than my 17"s on michelin ps4

charred depot
#

I guess so but generally little sidewall is little sidewall

#

This image sums up my councils idea of an acceptable road

#

why repair the road when you can put a advisory sign up telling people to do 10mph

waxen coral
#

lol

#

expecting too much from politicians again

#

classic mistake

charred depot
#

Its funny when driving home and I cross into my council area there is a sign and the road immediately reduces in quality

waxen coral
#

lol

dense shard
#

I'm having an excellent time with my Toyota

waxen coral
#

Its person to person

#

im having a great time in my german cars

dense shard
#

Then don't make blanket statements as a fact

waxen coral
#

Ironic peachtime

charred depot
#

it gets worse every yard past that welcome to fife sign

waxen coral
#

my car lost alignment just by watching this video

charred depot
#

just the beginning

stiff burrow
#

I drive on roads like that every day

charred depot
#

lucky

#

it gets worse

stiff burrow
#

Thankfully the roads I drive on are wide enough that I can avoid the potholes

waxen coral
#

Are you guys European

charred depot
#

Scortish

waxen coral
#

ah i see

stiff burrow
charred depot
#

the speed limit on that road is 60mph if you dare

stiff burrow
#

Bruh

charred depot
#

I get up to that on the straights but have to slow down alot incase someone is coming the other direction near bends

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

waxen coral
#

I simply avoid the holes

stiff burrow
#

My state has some of the worst roads in the country

waxen coral
#

jeez

#

what state

stiff burrow
#

Michigan

waxen coral
#

Ah

#

Yeah because it gets cold there doesnt it

stiff burrow
#

Ironic considering we are the birthplace of the modern car

waxen coral
#

Heat expansion and contraction really kills the roads

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

charred depot
#

The poor road quality is alright in the saab but in the mazda with low profile tyres šŸ’€

waxen coral
#

it doesn't get nearly that cold here

charred depot
#

bruh its always like 10C here all year how are our roads crumbling

stiff burrow
waxen coral
#

Ah

stiff burrow
#

So Ice melts and freezes multiple times a day

waxen coral
#

Yeah that really kills the roads

#

Thats like

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

waxen coral
#

the worst case scenario

stiff burrow
#

Yeah

#

And because new roads get ruined in just a few years they don’t bother to fix it anymore

waxen coral
#

It doesnt get below freezing here often luckily

charred depot
#

ours can be perfect the only issue is you are going to be going 60mph and suddenly the mother of all potholes is infront of you

stiff burrow
waxen coral
#

jeeZ

stoic ledge
#

Our roads are generally fine, but they better as I already pay 65usd a month road tax for my tiny hatchback KEKW

waxen coral
#

Interesting

#

road tax

#

We get some of the most expensive insurance in the country but i dont think we have a road tax

stiff burrow
#

In the US we have it built into the gas tax

charred depot
#

my road tax is expensive here in the UK at £280/y

stoic ledge
stiff burrow
#

Lol

waxen coral
#

Euro insurance is insane though

#

based on displacement?

#

wild

charred depot
#

alot more than that

stoic ledge
#

Based on many factors

charred depot
#

based on a billion factors you will never know or properly understand

waxen coral
#

My insurance is based on age, gender, and experience

charred depot
#

it is cheaper for me to insure a Honda S2000 than it is a Civic

stiff burrow
#

Displacement taxes KEKW

stoic ledge
#

Hell even your neighbour might get a lower rate as #6 statistically crashes less than people on #8 or something like that

#

It's crazy

waxen coral
#

Its pretty cheap because im a girl but my friends insurance is super super expensive because they're under 25, males, with like 2 or 3 years of experience

charred depot
#

different rates on a street to street basis

waxen coral
#

My insurance is like, 1450/yr on my e90

#

for comp

charred depot
#

Im fully comp but my excess exceeds the value of the car

#

I should have let that mazda 6 hit me, easy way out of the saab nightmare.

stoic ledge
#

Mine is ~1100USD/year but that's for something a lot smaller than an E90

#

1.2 PogChomp

waxen coral
#

jeeez

#

Wait

#

you're EU or NA?

charred depot
#

Ā£1100/y for my modified saab
Ā£350/y unmodified

stoic ledge
#

I know my brothers E91 was like 1900 USD/year

stoic ledge
waxen coral
#

ohhh

stoic ledge
#

But I already convert the numbers as most are US

waxen coral
#

Im not US lol

stoic ledge

AH

waxen coral

Im Canadian haha

stoic ledge

Same

But friendlier

I wish insurance companies could be more understanding of engine swaps :^(

stoic ledge
#

Sorry BenTheHat

#

xD

stiff burrow
waxen coral
#

Im actually like 20 minutes away from the linus media group studio

stiff burrow
#

Canadians and Americans are basically the same thing lmao

#

As much as Canadians don’t like to hear that

dense shard
#

They are

waxen coral
#

Thats what americans say when they dont care to understand the differences

dense shard
#

If truck buying habits are anything to go on

stiff burrow
#

There are obviously cultural differences but we are very similar

waxen coral
#

which is, typically american

stoic ledge
#

Canadians are superior as they use metric

dense shard
#

Oh the two countries are more similar than you care to admit

waxen coral
#

Only officially, and for like, speed and whatnot

stoic ledge
#

Don't canadian cars use km/h?

waxen coral
#

height, weight, etc

#

all in imperial

#

well

#

more like both

#

I switch between them

stoic ledge
#

ohno

stiff burrow
#

The same thing is going on in the UK too

waxen coral
#

feet and inches for short distances, kilometres for long distances

#

temperature only in Celsius though

#

nobody uses F

stoic ledge
#

F

waxen coral
dense shard
#

Yep

waxen coral
#

Have you lived in Canada?

dense shard
#

Can't say I have

waxen coral
#

Then what was that about making generalizing statements as facts? peachtime peachtime

dense shard
#

Because it is a fact

stiff burrow
#

There’s a Tim Hortons close to my house, that has to count for some Canadian clout

dense shard
#

Culturally the countries are quite similar

waxen coral
#

Oh so now we can make those statements because it can fit your narrative

dense shard
#

Historically more so

#

What are you on about?

waxen coral
#

Dude, dude, the country is huge, there's a difference province to province

#

2nd biggest country in the world, you can just out a blanket statement on the whole thing

#

its like me saying people from Florida and from Oregon are the same

charred depot
#

both Americans to me

waxen coral
#

Like generally if you squint hard enough the values tend to align, but, mostly, there's a huge difference

#

Its like saying the Quebecois and the French from france are the same

#

or Mexicans and Chileans are the same

#

yeah they speak the same language

stiff burrow
#

That’s true of literally anywhere

waxen coral
#

and come from generally the same background

#

but they're hugely different

#

Not in a bad or good way, there are good aspects of Americans and there are bad aspects of Canadians, but im tired of people saying the same crap like "Oh they're basically the same" like some psuedo intellectual

#

can you tell it hits a nerve lil

#

lol

waxen coral
#

Timmies is kinda trashy

stiff burrow
#

They’ve gone downhill recently

waxen coral
#

Timmies is like

Last resorr

For me at least

#

their coffee sucks

#

and their hot chocolate

#

but the donuts are good

stiff burrow
#

The coffee does suck

Yeah

waxen coral
#

McCafe is better

stiff burrow
#

Better than dunkin

waxen coral
#

We dont get dunkin in Vancouver

stiff burrow
#

Oh

waxen coral
#

ye

#

we JUST got popeyes

stiff burrow
#

Krispy Kreme has really good donuts too

waxen coral
#

We have Krispy Kreme actually hehe

#

yeah they're good

#

i like it

#

But the closest one is still really far from my house so i just get tims most of the time

stiff burrow
#

There’s one 20 mins away from my house

#

Right across from micro center šŸ˜

waxen coral
#

Gee

#

atleast we get Memory Express

I used to have an NCIX next to my house when i lived with my parents

I think linus worked at that one actually but idk

stoic ledge

Sounds fair to me

timber oar
#

talk about a drop off

stoic ledge

Put it in the rear monkaS

charred depot
#

if someone does that to me while I have the engine in the boot, might just have to give them a bump

stiff burrow
#

Ooh I hate when people do that

charred depot
#

less than a second gap at the best point while I have 60kg of loose metal beams in the back

stiff burrow
#

Is that what that sound was at the end?

charred depot
#

my chains can be heard I think

stiff burrow
#

Oh ok

charred depot
#

could have had an engine in the boot alongside all that and they are lucky I didnt because im not having it break loose and them piss off

stiff burrow
#

Looks like my dash cam has shipped

restive cliff
#

i mean, he cut in kind of late but he had a blinker on and there was a lot of time and space for you to apply brakes and slow down without jamming the brakes. And its not like he stopped for no reason, It was a T junction and a stop sign. You would have had to stop there anyway

charred depot
#

its a roundabout and nothing was coming

#

no stop sign

restive cliff
#

ah, so he shouldn't have stopped at all. that makes more sense

charred depot
#

well if he wants to play it safe and stop for a look he can not cut in at the last second

#

but id have rolled on

#

the road is wet and it is freezing and he goes infront of me with less than a second where realistically there should be 4 seconds

restive cliff
#

i wouldnt exactly call that last second. He certainly could have just stayed in his lane, but he was in the lane for a good 5 seconds before you hit the brakes

charred depot
#

if hes having to cut in less than a second infront of me then its last second

#

if you pick a point and count how many seconds it takes me to pass it, it should be 4.

restive cliff
#

i dont understand what happend in "less than a second" in that video. he was in the lane for several seconds and entered it while signalling

charred depot
#

the time it takes for me to reach a point he previously was at

restive cliff
#

ah the distance in front of you, got it

#

yeah he was definitely close.

charred depot
#

the dashcam makes things look further away if you didnt know

restive cliff
#

and I'd be a little pissed about it if someone cut in front of me like that. but there was still a safe distance until you both stopped

charred depot
#

there wasnt a safe distance at the best point

restive cliff
#

why did you wait like 5 seconds to apply brakes if it wasnt safe the moment he entered your lane?

charred depot
#

I honestly though someone at that level of dickhead wouldnt come to a complete stop for the roundabout

#

and I also was pissed

restive cliff
#

yeah i get it

charred depot
#

From my perspective I cant even see tarmac and its much closer "in person"

#

you cant really judge distance from a wide angle video other than counting time between points

restive cliff
#

yeah it's all good. I just didnt understand why you waited so long to get on the brakes is all

stoic ledge
#

Yeah it's weird to cut in front because he's driving faster and then skow down like crazy

stoic ledge
#

But sounds good gg

charred depot
#

The speed limit is 40 so hes speeding past everyone till hes right at the front where he has to be

#

I dont mind people cutting close infront of they are going to continue on but if you are slowing down no thankyou

waxen coral

But I can see use cases for it

stoic ledge

Used to have them here as well but new rules in šŸ‡³šŸ‡± state atleast a X*Y*Z dimension thing must fit, which they don't

#

A friend of mine in šŸ‡§šŸ‡Ŗ actually has a VW Polo configured like that, he doesn't use it at such but it's for tax reasons

#

Although with the HHR you could fold down the back seats and have a panel with rear windows. Plus, the panel was more expensive iirc.

#

But I could be remembering that last detail wrong

stoic ledge
#

Uhm yeah these also started life just as regular cars... And they were converted to van later. But after the conversion, the met the regulations for a van, which a wagon with folded down rear seats does not. This meant they could get a commercial car/van license plate (in šŸ‡³šŸ‡± it's called a "grey plate" even though it's bright yellow xD), those start with a B or V at the letter combination.

These grey plated have a lower road tax rate, no VAT, no emissions tax.... So for companies way cheaper than a regular passenger car

#

Although some actually came already converted from the Factory, really depends on the car, model, country legislation etc

#

Like the 3 door Astra Van (the red one) I posted above, it came like that from the Factory. The gray one is a converted wagon

#

You could also get a Corsavan (just like the Fiesta Van you found), those actually have different floorings and stuff and came like that from the Factory
