The chances are low... also Aston Martin copied the wrong car this year
Lol, and they were the most upset about the rule changes.

Cheapest regular here now is 8.50 USD/gallon
I like the late 60's models.

It's a bargain isn't it
Oof sign me up
Even my "cheap" LPG is 3.22 USD/gallon, what most still would say is cheap
That’s on 8 mile road 💀 you would be robbed or something
(not for me as it's more than double of the regular price)
I don’t go to any stations in the outer city of Detroit even if they’re cheaper, I’ll pay the extra 40c to go to a nicer station
Understandable
We don't really have such unsafe stations here
Atleast not that I know off
That’s good

That’s not too bad
Compared to regular gas, yeah it is
Still surprised not more people drive on LPG here
That’s what I was paying a few years ago for premium though
Yeah
If I lived somewhere where gas was expensive I’d drive an EV or alternative fuel car
Wow
Actually EVs sell reasonably well here
Like 20% of new sold cars are EVs?
But LPG cars on the road is the lowest since like the 90's
But it saved me like 4 grand in fuel the last 5 years
And I drive ~10k miles a year, with Covid less
I was thinking about buying a CNG car. What is the advantages for it?
Better for the environment
For the rest, not really much in 🇳🇱 Not really cheaper, + hard to get fuel (depending on the area)
In Belgium and Germany it's more interesting
I travel often to Sweden, there are a lot of CNG stations out there, and in 🇳🇱 there are some CNG in the east
Well then that's the advantage in your specific case, so go for it 😛
I was thinking about price per km, is there any advantage?
Don't think there's a big difference, maybe slightly lower? I think 1kg CNG ~ 1l of petrol?
CNG (gas onder hoge druk)
1 l diesel = 5 l CNG
Source: TotalEnergies
was sitting parked and the saab just decided to shut itself off :^| the fuel gauge had been funky so I was like ohno please start please start.
its slowly learning start stop technology
Ban internal combustion engines in 2040: I say NO
Ban on Petrol, LPG and Diesel is OK. But give some alternatives and let encourage CNG and Hydrogen for personal cars, and LNG for HGV's
why lpg?
The problem with banning ice engines is that it really doesn't solve the root environmental issue
Electricity is the number one polluter
What happens when you replace a car with an ev? you put an increased strain on the electrical grid.
Your fancy pants ev pollutes no less than your neighbors ice car.
Like I always say, there's a dozen things worse than gas and diesel burning cars out there
if anything, ban diesel since it's worse than gas and lpg
literal crude oil burning cargo ships
jet fuel
coal power plants
etc
a greater emphasis on improving fuel economy and making hybrids more prevalent makes the most sense to me
that's what I mean
Since many parts of the world still burn coal, efc for it.
the electricity production industry is the number one source of pollution in the world
Remember guys.
Reduce.
Reuse.
Recycle.
This year is EU year of Rail
Introduce fly tax and make train cheaper is what we all can agree with, or not?
Yeah, flying to Berlin from Amsterdam is cheaper than going there by train. So why would you ever choose the train
All the ways they think its produced is relying to much on the weather. Sun and wind sometimes dont even show themselves. What happens then lol? Thats what people these days dont think about
pretty much always windy here
Hail hydra.
Plus coal produces like 400 - 1000+ MW while wind and solar 1 - 100 MW
theres a big fuck off wind turbine in my town so all green here
one turbine isn't going to be enough for a big town tho
Add more
I dont live in a big town
they like to burn up if they aren't maintained
So maintain them
My point is. The way we're going isn't gonna work
Im sure if we can manufacture planes at the scale we do we can make wind turbines.
Planes are shit for the environment
I see EV's going to shit in the next 20 years
i agree
hybrids are gonna be king
turbine in the center of my down produces around 1.5MW
I won't be surprised if they get 1 Litre engines making 200hp from motors
Bugger all right?
Toyota Prius still Rockin 50mpg
its just one turbine at the center of our town
theres more around it but those are in fields
But u try and add all the EV charging to those 1.5 MW turbines
they'll fall flat man
Every house is gonna have one. Most worlds power grids are keeping a float right now
A lot of people dont want them because of the scary "meltdowns"
I'm all for it honestly
geothermal is infintily more capable then nuclear
Now everything is much safer then before
^
And I think we ain't gonna build the flawed soviet designs and we don't have high risk of natural disasters
At least here in Poland
What are restrictions of these?
Most of nuclear incidents were on such a small scale
currnetly drill tech is a little bit bhined but, honeslty once we start making more capable coolent systems for drills,
or just make more geothermal plants in thinner crust locations
we can proububly power most of south amarica off of just chilie,
now that does mean they are more vunerble to shock from earthquakes, so chilie is a little bit more danogurs
but places in the USA, are easly tappable. gerothermal plants, are cheaper then nuclear,
infintily more safe, cause effecvtily no damage to the envorment,
and it only requiers water and pumps. it systems are a lot less complex, which means the engnears, once it is drilled can be common, and don't need to be highly trained or educated, as the systems there working with are simpler then a dam.
the risitrction currnetly is, the lack of mass use of the technogly, but the technogly itself is more promising then fusion energy,
its much smaller then solar or wind, and is much much easer to build. the amaount of work that goes into making a wind plant or solar plant or nuclear plant is massive, all of which cause huge damage to the envorment. you have to wait a long time for solar and wind to pay back the resources used. geothermal, does not have this draw back.
it is case spsific. you don't want to drill 5 miles through a mountian in the rocky mountains, but if you had too drilling off the coast or near costal is exceedingly easy.
geothermal is a new technogly. and like any its not perfect at this time. but once drill tech is far along enough, nuclear, and coal plants are bassicly obsolite.
now, the mobilty of nuclear power like micro nuclear reactors that could be intresting but currently they don't exist on a large scale and proububly only will be used for ice breakers and reaserch bases in remote areas
but at the same time
there's nothing inherently wrong with wind, solar, or nuclear
They're all less environmentally impactful than coal and natural gas
plus you can't forget hydro electric power
And yes, if a nuclear reactor goes into meltdown you can fuck shit up. But realistically it shouldn't happen 9 times out of 10 if you have competent personnel.
Wind and Solar I will agree 100% are not cost effective to use on a large scale
better in localized situations, like solar panels on the roof of a building and wind turbines on some dude's farm
geothermal is great tho
But the problem is that its not likely to be implemented, just like everything else
Why spend all the money to switch to something new when we can just keep using what we have?
Its the wrong mindset, but that's the inherent problem with how the world is run. Corporate greed reaches too far
nuclear, is expesnive, and it requiers huge amounts of engnears to produce a reactor. that doesn't mean its bad it just means gerothemal is way better for devloping countrys who would otherwise rely on coal, which makes gerothmal a much much better option. comptent perosnal, are exmtelry importent for nuclear power plants. that makes them very expensive.
hydro electic power is extnerslty terrble for fish, that doesn't mean it is all bad, it is argbuuily very good but not every country can build a long term high power hydro electirc plant. a coal plant is far simpler to produce, geothermal plants are just as simple.
solar, is stupid, you can fight me on it but I think that currnetly you should just go wind. its literuily infintily cheaper, its way easer to cleanup, you can rcycle bassicly everthing on it cheaply unlike solar, and wind is going to be way easer to setup in mass, it takes up less ground space. downside is it takes up a lot of land, just like solar. geothermal, takes up as much as a coal plant, which is very very small, and doesn't nead a coal mine, which means its even smaller.
rare earth metals, silcon, and nickle mining is done commonly by china, who does it out of africa, who is not setup to have safe working conditions for those mines. this is a bad thing, a geothermal plant doesn't requier the same amount of rare earth metals as the other soruces of energy, solar and wind.
the arugment isn't 'oh we shouldn't switch becuase it costs money' is wrong, devloping countrys, china, included, are not in a psoitoin to switch. the US, and the west, have a lot to do with this problem, but its not just coprations, govemrints of delvoping countrys cannot just tell there people 'oh your going to starve because sombody in the USA with a smartphone seid you can't make any more coal plants'
the world is eterntily ruined not by the function of 'greedy deloping countrys' but by the fact that they have no other real choice,
wind energy is way more expesniive, then coal. so is, solar, not long term, but initailly its so expsnive that, it cannot be effectivly employed. geothermal will be the pwoer soruce that is used, once it becomes ecnomical, and it will be far better then nuclear, wind, or solar.
now solar, and wind on a small scale, are quite good. so is geothermal. coal, is not. and coal, will be replaced with geothermal.
1988 Dodge Ram D150 LE
nice
argubily, it could be, for the short term, for nations that are not delvoping.
nations like the US, or britan, can super easly build them, and there ecnomys are not manfuactring based. there industery is in china, mostly, who on the other hand, cannot possibly shift to wind.
Nuclear I think is an underated option
nuclear is not underated or people would use it more often. its not just becuase people don't like it becuase they think of chernoble, china would use it in every case if it was cheaper or safer to oprate. the issue is if you try to make it in mass, for cheap, its dangours. if you try adn make it, small, and safe, and for a high price, its expensive, and that intial pay out doens't look good for investors waiting 20 years in the US to get a return.
its why micro nuclear power plants, are infintily better then big nuclear.
nuclear isn't really underated as much as misunderstood.
it cannot be a repalcment for coal, or oil.
Nuclear is wonderful if expensive
And nuclear is absolutely a replacement for fossil fuels
that is interily incorrect
and I never sied it wasn't good when expensive I seid it was expensive with makes it not a replacment for fossile fules
Renewables coupled with more efficient tech, batteries, and a change in lifestyle is absolutely feasible
tell me how in hell a nation like ethopia is going to replace a coal mining plant with a nuclear power source
Coal prices will only go up. Same for oil
for a first world country
How will Ethiopia? Easy
Developed countries will help
Time to stop acting like we're alone. Climate change affects everyone
Politics have gotten increasingly stupid in relation to climate change imo
America, France, and the UK can afford multiple aircraft carriers. They can afford to help in the global transition to clean energy
no they will not. they clearly are not helping. they will not help smaller nations. there is no need to help smaller nations. the USA, if you asked say one person from congress like dan crenshaw if we should 'give away our tax dollers' to ethopia and build a nuclear reactor there he will say 'f&&& no'
poltics are massivly powerful, saying they should just go away is a frever dream, they will never go away. geotheraml, is cheaper, and does the same thing nuclear does, but with far less waste and far less requiered edcatuioin. this invaldates the intire function of having nuclear power plants.
those nuclear power plants, are massivly expensive. they can afford them. but only to defend there nations. this does not mean there going to build them, for nations like ethopia. poltics, ruins everthing nucleear. but nuclear is also eexpensive, which ruins everthing nuclear.
the US woul dhave to educate them, on nuclear technoglys for them to be able to oprate a nuclear power plant, which by the way, the US is not going to do. poltics, again ruin everthing.
but that also means geothermal is the better if not the only option.
Also it appears wind is much cheaper than geothermal
what about the birdstrikes?
that is like saying building a nucleaer bomb in 1930 was more expensive then using canouns and thats why they used canouns. the technogly isn't there in, only drilling. geotheraml, once drills are put out in more effect, will be infintily cheaper, creates way more power, and oprates with far less maintince.
What about them?
Birdstrikes are red herring
What about ecosystem destruction brought on by coal?
Or oil spills?
if you had to clean up all the dead birds on your property you wouldn't call it a red herring
Do you?
yes
depends, im only on the farm some weekends, its in the hundreds across the property
Estimates of up to a million or more birds a year are killed by turbines in the US but that is far exceeded by collisions with communications towers (6.5 million); power lines, (25 million); windows (300 million); and cats (1.4 to 3.7 billion) and those lost due to habitat loss, pollution and climate change. While the toll from turbines is far f...
Perhaps we get rid of cellphone towers and power lines
I'll take wind over coal everyday of the week
Nuclear is the only way to create a lot of green power, and it's very stable
The future isn't cheap.
But I'll take paying more to charge my phone vs cosplaying as Kevin Costner in Sea World.

Nuclear in my opinion is the best way to produce lots of energy and not pollute air
Ofc it creates waste, but unlike air pollution it can be managed
Literal driving coffin
Y'all ever hit top speed of your car?
nope
Kind of
Went over the listed top speed but it still had a bit more to give
@fathom socket my justy tops at 80 hhahah 😆 😆

Loud af no muffler 3 cylinder
Kmh?
Kilometres / hour
Oh nice. Us aussies have the newer ones. Like the BF Falcon.
Nope mph@fathom socket
Nope, but I want to some day. Fastest I’ve gone is 100 passing somebody on the highway though 😂
Oof so my 1.2 has gone faster than your super saloon 😛
107 on an on ramp
My peugeots top speed is around 80mph badmanshiz
🤨 mph or kmh
100mph = 160kmh
pretty sure the listed top speed for a 1.2 corsa is around 110mph so yes mph
I know the alignment is totally fucked on this car but ive never had one of those fancy 4 wheel laser alignments that people with german cars do. Im not really sure how you could adjust the camber on this car other than unbolting the strut at the top and moving it around in the ~1cm of play it has.
I was just going to do my usual toe alignment because the steering wheel isnt straight
Yeah did ~105-110mph
Iirc I stopped at 108mph (175km/h)
my focus mk1 1.8 16v did 180 kmh on 3 cylinders
Lol nice
I don’t speed because there are too many idiots where I can go fast
People go 65 in the left lane when the speed limit is 70, sometimes people just change lanes in front of you when they are going way too slow, people drift between lanes, don’t let you pass
It’s horrible
Fastest I go is 79 because the police will pull you over if you’re going over 80 anyway
Sitting in a Talbot ICM now
just go to germany
Talbot is German.
Would love to @fathom socket
I have a friend who recently moved back to America from Germany

The mighty Hyundai Tucson 2005 is at 360k miles let's see if it will reach 400k.
Mr MacConnacher, who drives 25 miles to Aberfoyle, Stirlingshire, each day for work, said he needs a large car as he often faces "challenging conditions" on the road in winter.
Aaahahaha
I dont agree with it but find it hilarious
Should have went after them offering tyre inflation for £20 each
I drive 60 miles to stirlingshire and that guys excuse is pish
Just say you prefer the suv
I got a question can you do a full digital dash conversion on a Dodge Aries K like with touch screen or LEDs?
My car nearly didn't pass inspection because guess what? The license plate lights were the wrong color...
They're white
Maybe too white and too bright? Might be confusing for other drivers coming up behind you to see bright white lights
Probably, using something like a Holley ECU
if you can wire it up and make it run the engine, then you can just plug a holley digital dash into it
be prepared to spend thousands though lol
A Digital Dash is the perfect add-on to any hot rod or race car! Whether you need something interface with your standalone EFI system or are just looking for a versatile digital screen to display all of your engine's vital information, the Holley EFI or Racepak Digital Dash is the ideal solution for you!
Basically a racing hot hatch
and now he'll need to get new tyres i presume?
I think they just deflated them, didnt slash

Ready for the scrap
If it's the 1.6 16v, it'll run forever. 2.0 is also fine, 1.4 is too little
You're mistaking it for a VW
advisory free MOT on a ropey 80s "luxury car"
it has 1.8
o no wait
Wikipedia doesn't know anything about it either
the picasso had 1.8
Ah yes
but it was ugly AF
and unergonomic
this is the only car I found after going to 6 car dealers
also 7 seater
higer res pic
We had a 2003 307 Break (so not the sunroof and a rear bench instead of separate chairs) 1.6 16v for 9 years, no problems with it whatsoever
We only got rid of it because
- after 9 years we wanted something else
- it needed a few things done (like rear shocks) but we didn't want to invest the money as we were looking at a different car
But not broken stuff, just maintenance stuff
I think I know someone that had one that wore one of lower control arm bushings so much the rubber was basically non existent.

That happens with South European cars
corroded oil pan?
Had a pretty nice driveway till my power steering pump went and all the fluid pooled in the undertray then when I went into my sloped drive it all gushed out over the driveway staining it.
Apparently I don't really have pics of the 307, but this was it
Had it from 2007 to 2017 so almost 10 years (it's a 2003)
It's actually still on the road
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Yikes only ever had the outer joint go bad and make horrible noises
Huh, they’ve started selling Highlanders in the UK
I have often wondered why US market 3 row SUVs don’t sell here
When we do buy German ones
Yeah they brought it to Europe as there's now the Hybrid option
Same for the Ford Exploder, you can buy the PHEV
Huh, interesting. Suggesting it was emmissions that kept them out of the UK market. Wonder if we’ll see a Sienna as well
everythings going big

I'm thinking about getting this focus c max
Why a focus
classic uber driver car
shudders
if we see the carbon reclaiming fuel being figured out and produced to keep gas engines alive id prefer that tbh
Hmm my car makes a low pitched grinding noise when engine braking
Quite concerning because I feel like it's gonna be an expensive fix and I don't really have the money for that rn
i think that is a great option for people who want ice cars, but for most ppl i think electrics are better
Because it's the only car that is big enough for me I can afford
But it turned out it needs new clutch, tyres and needs insurance
focuses are not bad aside from transmission issues
but i think that is mostly with the automatics
its beautiful
i just want an excuse to keep ice's around lol
as much as electric is better
there needs to be character
If I could even get an automatic trans here
has anyone seen Supercar Blondie's McLaren 720s upgrade vid?
Supercar Blondie is the last person I'll watch videos from
oh
Eyyy it's the Mercedes 6x6
People talk about how manual is more “engaging” but all you’re doing is moving a thing around while you’re driving 💀
This game looks so good
Why
I feel like the transmission does things against me
Very often takes ages to downshift
I'm not convinced to older autos
But I did like how cvt drives
I think it’s silly to complain about slower autos because it would take longer to shift yourself anyway
For a comfortable daily, auto is the way to go. Nobody wants to be stuck in traffic working a heavy clutch but for a nice weekend car, the feeling of redlining it or nailing a rev match is something else
The feeling of shifting gears is nice, and the sense of extra control over the car is nice IMO.
plenty of not that old automatics which will seldum do what you want in a timely manner.
atleast with a manual you can pre-emptively shift
you know exactly what is going to happen and exactly what power you have
much older car but 30 seconds in the passenger seat of an automatic vauxhall senator hearing the auto do its thing is enough to drive ones self to auto induced suicide
Maybe part of it is that my car has a fast automatic, but I never find myself in a situation where I would want to choose a gear for a turn or road. I just floor the gas pedal and it chooses a low gear for acceleration, then settles out once I hit the speed I want
your car is hardly low end
plenty of average older but not nearly eol cars with completely dreadful automatics
Having driven both auto and manual. There's absolutely no reason to be up in arms
Daily driving a manual is tedious and annoying
And a shit manual transmission is worse than a mediocre auto
Just drive what you prefer and stop bitching about other people's choices
Never had issues with automatics
The only time I'd say an automatic is the wrong choice is if it's a Nissan CVT or an early 2000s V6 Honda
the two worst transmissions of all time
Guaranteed to fail more often than a remanufactured Renesis
didnt realise anyone was brave enough to offer that service
Most automatics let you pick gears anyway lmfao
Prefer older cars so will be manuals till im forced onto an EV
My van has L/Low (1st gear), 2 (up to 2nd gear), D/Drive (up to 3rd gear), and O/D / Overdrive (up to 4th gear)
And there's lots of moderately new automatics with a manual mode
old American slush boxes aren't even that bad
theyre just built for a purpose that isn't fun and/or speed
mpgs bad enough thx
you get what you pay for in a sense
you aren't buying a luxury or semi-luxury car for the fuel economy
that's what an econobox or a hybrid is for
Im considering fitting one of those electric power steering pumps to my saab, maybe one from an mr2
little mpg bump
I doubt it would increase mpg
well id get better mpg if I just didnt have power steering
but that would wear the rack and the column wasnt meant for it
Logically, there's still a load required to power the steering. It's just not directly driven by the crank anymore
with the electric motor it isnt always pumping
deleting the ps on my saab
a rack and pinion is a rack and pinion
Not having ps on it doesn't make a difference on how it wears
the joints on the column arent intended for that load
it was designed with power steering in mind
People depower steering racks all the time
You just have to properly seal off where hoses would connect and fill it with proper fluid
yes and some cars have issues with the column joints when you do that

the load on the U joint on a power steering column is way less than a manual steering rack one
notice how light your steering is with power steering
you take power steering away and that joint has to deal with a much higher load and will accelerate its wear
it's light because the turning of the wheels is assisted
at the rack.
The actual load should be the same. If anything, having power steering would increase the load since it's pressurized
the load on the U joint is what you feel at the wheel

the steering wheel is transmitted to the rack through the U joint if you are putting all your force into the wheel that is the force that the U joint is dealing with
this is an issue which is actually serious on some porsche where owners delete the PS for the driving experience.
it can strip out the shaft that the joint goes onto
well the load is literally higher without power steering
How???
what?
the load on those U joints is whatever you have at the steering wheel
without a power steering rack the load will be higher if you ignore ratio differences.
But why is the load higher?
Never had this issue
I cannot find anything
I tried google searching this and found nothing to back you up
Look at porsche 944 power steering delete
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/62140-power-steering-delete.html I know theres better threads than this
"It's not easy. You will have to replace the rack and complete steering shaft. The joints in the shaft and all other things concerned steering in the PS 951 cannot be used without p/s. Some people just removed their belt and pump and ended up with even a broke shaft or rack. Quite a lot of work will be involved. "
Regardless of if this is an issue you understand the load on the joints is higher without power steering right.
Yeah, the "right" way to convert to manual steering is to swap in a rack and column with proper ratios. That's why they say that.
But you don't have to do that
"broke shaft"
I don't see any threads saying that no ps on a PS rack will break it
but you understand the load is higher right
Never but a FIAT with automatic gearbox
The U joint feels what you feel
If you are stationary or slow and try to turn the wheel thats alot of force
It'd be like driving without a brake booster. Theres just an assistance that relieves the need for high input
I don't understand how it would lower the actual load on anything in the system
You would feel the steering as heavier right?
Then so would the U joint on the shaft the steering wheel is attached to
About automatic gearboxes:
DAF (later known as Volvo) invented the VarioMatic gearboxes where you can drive as fast backwards as forwards, in the Netherlands they held competitions with cars equipped with VarioMatic gearboxes as you must drive so fast backwarts as possblie in the 1980's
It's heavier because it's not assisted. Just like my power brakes analogy
Video: https://youtu.be/S7ipFApsFec
Jaren 80, met commentaar van André van Duin. Circuit Zandvoort.
But in manual brakes, it being heavier doesn't change anything. Just higher input.
I fail to understand why the load would be higher
Take a paper straw hold the end of the loosely and spin it at the other end
Hold it tightly at the end then spin it and it will twist.
If you're talking about the Selespeed or Dualogic: those were just robotized manuals, those aren't the best by the nature of it. The main advantage was that they're relatively cheap compared to real automatics, and often got better fuel economy compared to the slush boxes available at the time
yes, that's why u-joints exist lol
I still don't see why the force would be higher
because the force you are putting on the steering wheel is higher
how does that force suddenly become less at the U joint in your mind
the same deal applies to the rack design, the rack and pinion are generally much weaker on power steering racks than their manual counterparts.
on power steering racks the majority of the force is dealt with by the piston section
so the rack and pinion doesent have to be as built as manual racks
the force on the u-joint should not change because the steering rack is still moving the same regardless. The added input at the wheel without ps compensates for the input provided by the ps pump.
The force on the rack and u-joints should be the same regardless.
I honestly cant
If the force you are applying to the steering wheel is higher the load on the U joint is higher
that is a fact regardless of if its a power steering or manual rack
the force you are applying is what that U joint sees
The only situation in which this is not true is a column electric power steering unit
if the ps pump moves the rack entirely on its own, there would still be a load on the u-joint, right?
I don't see why that load would be less with the pump working
If your steering shaft was a twig would it be more likely to break with power steering or without it
Because the load at the wheel is less.
what
it feels lighter because it's assisted. The whole system is still moving just the same
The assistance is applied at the rack
so the column doesent have to deal with as much force and therefor the driver
right, but if the rack moves, then the column also moves too
How can the force on the U joint possibly be the same when you are yanking on the wheel vs turning it with a pinky while stopped
The power steering rack makes the input "lighter" with its assistance
if this were true, then why do people delete ps or drive with no belt all the time
it is true
if it was going to breakt shit, people wouldn't do it very often
It doesent always but it has the potential to in some cars
I still can't find evidence supporting that
but it is a fact that the load is higher
I can't find anything that supports that either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
its a simple mechanical system
indeed
if steering wheel is "lighter" the load on the U joint is less I dont get how that doesent click for you
they are all on the same shaft
how does the force magically change from point to point
Depends on the type of power steering
Some modern EPS systems are at the column
mhm
Just remove the fuse
if theres money to be saved theres money to be saved they arent going to build the rack and pinion to the same strength as manual racks if they dont need to.
Same goes for the joints
But load before the power steering is going to be lighter by virtue of less torque being needed to change the wheel's position
Modern cars are over engineered. I sincerely doubt no EPS would break anything
Argument stemmed from my car which has a hydraulic rack
Looking at fitting a electric pump unit from an MR2
takes a speed input so you can have it tighten up at higher speeds
Manual is fun
Feeling the synchros slide in and everything
I can assure you it's a lot more than just moving a stick around lol
the GM sloppy shifter manual experience is truly awe inspiring
Or the french hunt for first gear
Manual is fun, but people act like it's the only way to enjoy driving.
i never drove automatic, so i cant compare
do BEVs count as automatic?
because they only have one (fixed) gear.
by definition, a BEV is a manual.
because u do not have automatic transmittion
Since i got my driving license (2 months ago) I have once driven a automatic (BMW from a friend) and i really liked it
But manual gives more control on hills
sometimes I would die to have manual instead of auto because of this
but no.
all the trucks have only auto and sequential gearbox is locked
I was thinking of getting this car
it seems to be decent, good price and it needs some minor repair and insurance
How many KMs has it driven?
That's realistic, but it is a lot.
it might have actual higher
my ford has 320k km
but the engine got killed by gas
Damn, my merc has 149k on it.
Yeah, it's not worth it.
runs on 3 cylinders because it has no compression on cylinder 1
How much is a saab 9-5 aero hot turbo hot aero turbo over there
IDK. i haven't seen any for sale
literally the best car I've seen that doesn't seem trash at first glance
I have my car for 10.5 months now and I'm at about 12k km.
its a VW e-up
insurance is set to 15k, I'll hope not to surpass that before one years' up...
What happens if you do surpass?
fit bigger tyres pay less for insurance hehe
on the plus side my speedo is now pretty accurate
In the UK they don't check - it's just an estimate
went over mine pretty much every time
if you're consistently over or if you're in a really low bracket then you have to sign a declaration
I did go over like 2x
I'd need to pay or lose the guarantee or somewhat
How much is it being sold for
6000 pln
or approx 1300 eur
it still better than my current one
That’s better than I expected
Lol
it's so broken
scrap worth much over there?
still regret not taking the cat off our civic I thought they would check
generally you have to pay to scrap the cars
wow that sucks
sometimes you can get paid if it's in good enough condition
but mechanics in my ford are fucked
get £300 ish if you drive the car to them here
I just want a car it will get me half across europe like 6 times till the summer
I would not say that. They still have a park and reverse, which you are not manually controlling by hand. Afaik BEVs don't even have a traditionally defined transmission. More of a direct drive into the differential, bypassing a gear reduction entirely; the only fixed gear is the final drive.
It can't be a manual if there's no transmission to begin with.
And can't be a manual if you aren't physically controlling the mode of the transmission. By definition an automatic transmission is indirectly controlled by the driver; instead solenoids tell the transmission what gear to be in.
@fathom socket When you are in the Netherlands, would you accept a challenge?
What kind of challange?
I've often thought it would hilarious to have a manual transmission BEV with a single forward and reverse gear
Driving a lorry in a national park were there are many curves
sadly I no work longer there
also I had a lot of driving on roads like this in UK
Many people that EV swap manual cars keep the transmission and just use 2nd and 3rd gear for forward
Me driving through a national park.
I took a right turn.
I feel there is something wrong, but not really sure where
looks like the rear is hanging too low
amazingly theres nothing wrong, just the weird uneven surface made it look like the rear is slammed
ford probably still gets better mpg despite not making power on one cylinder
It got converted from 1.8L to a 1.35L engine
IDK the MPG, but I get 12l/100km
since the cylinfder wenty out
10l/100km on the schaab
normally I would be doing 9l/100km
since maintaning 140 kmh with less power costs more fuel I think
tried unplugging the injector on the screwed cylinder
if you were over here could attempt my first engine swap
suppose the car is rusty so not worth paying anyone for their time
Ye
Still thinking about getting this one
It's rust free
Mechanicy it seems the suspension needs new bushings
diesel not viable over there
it's petrol
i mean would you not consider getting a diesel
at this price it's really difficult to find diesel that I could get the right emission class
ah emissions arent so much an issue here
in germany in umweltzone is
yeah I wouldnt be able to go into london without getting charged like £10 a day
and also some cities in Poland are doing this thing too
not a thing in Scotland yet thankfully although Edinburgh may do it soon
It wont be long before my peugeot would be ULEZ exempt though
I don't really want to risk getting a Diesel on cars of this age
also they scare me how expensive they can get to fix
I wouldnt get a modern diesel for sure
an older but not that old peugeot hdi shouldnt be too bad though
I know, but I need to drive in those emissions zones
yeah :/
May have to go there soon, dreading it and I live in this country
someone drunk guys were fighting under the pub and one guy decided it's gonna be a great idea to push the other guy under my Lorry
british people
Bri'ish
Get a 🏍️, no environmental zones issues and toll exempt or reduced
but I need a license for that and it's not a good for long distances
I would get a electric one if I can move out to Switzerland to just drive locally
New Honda CB125F have a fuel economy of 66km/l or 120mpg
but I need a car to move out
There are se good long disctance motorcycles
but I mean 20+ hours of driving
but I stil need a license
and a lot of things to pack
If you delete the drain plug, it is lifetime sealed and should last forever" Former Ford PTU engineer
Nothing quite like shiney new rotors. I’m excited to get these installed.
for some reason the alfab that james may made comes to mind but idk what happens
happened*
Them some nice rotors
brrrrrrrrrrrrr
mockup of the infinity mirror tail lights I'm designing for my car (not my car, just had similar tail lights although I will clean it up a bit)
WIP light testing - no acrylic cut yet as I don't have easy access to a band saw and the heated wire I have isn't long enough (may just modify that) It is just running off an ESP32 running WLED which I'll configure for various inputs for brake light stages - the design is modular and serviceable, and weather proof. Grooves inside to line up lenses/prevent rotation, channel up top for cable run, inner tray to hold lenses and such in place with ridges.
crappy test print for housing.
how
pretty common for private sale of old nasty cars which have an MOT for a year and will do you fine for that amount of time
can get some good stuff but often ver rusty
You should use addressable leds so you can do a startup animation like this
ah should have specified they are - I even have ideas to use reactive variables in the code/animations if I go my own route.
WLED is a custom addressable led program that is open source, allows me to use triggers to action for profiles of animations/profile use
but the brightness on these programmable RGB strips is enough to be seen from far away (already tested that)
(also if that is your car that is nice btw)
This sounds like an amazing project! Would love to see a guide when it’s done!
Thanks! It’s my first nice car and I’ve been really happy with it so far.
I’ve got a bit on an explanation for it somewhere on my site for the idea, but basically if you have a library to manager variables, you can then use the variables from other boards/triggers in user definable “animation blocks” so to speak, because you have dynamic variable access suddenly on a statically typed language
Also that’s a nice car! Do you do your own engine work? That’s the only more annoying thing I’ve heard about BMW is that can be a pain - although I haven’t read on newer ones yet
(I’m assuming most lights are powered by arduino or similar c++ based things - other languages don’t always have these limitations)
I don’t anymore. I’m too busy to be able to do my own work on cars nowadays. The 2013+ 3 series are pretty reliable as long as you keep up with basic maintenance luckily.
True - if maintained the bmw will outlast the heat death of the universe
Much like my moms 1998 Toyota Corolla
(Although I know which one I’d prefer
)
It’s got a catless down pipe and bigger fmic and makes around 380 whp. Definitely hope this lasts as long as possible as my last car (WRX) blew a headgasket 2 months after I got it 😂
I wonder if python would be a good fit since it’s popular in the “hacking” community. Not sure about compatibility though.
Someday I’ll get something with more power in it - might run an e85 mix on my Mazda speed 6 before then just for fun
Yeah I just had the solution using the tech I was into at the time
It’s part of a larger plan of mine for a modular embedded platform
E85 is definitely fun. I need to upgrade my hpfp to run it and get a flex fuel kit though. Mazdaspeed6s are definitely no slouch! I wanted one for a while but never could find one near me.
Yeah it’s my winter car and on E85 and a few basic upgrade I think 400hp is easy enough without blowing the engine. Just gotta clean fuel pump regularly to avoid the “Black Death” issue they had on E85.
I love it! Great sleeper build because no one expects it to do what it can with that AWD launch. Plus turbos are tons of fun (although I do prefer driving the 350z)
I literally bought mine on eBay with like 62k miles only mod it had is a blow off valve that I have found so far. (Fuel pump internals might be upgraded). However, it was on basically the end of Florida so I flew down and drove it home in 3 days. Hindsight, I’d have shipped it but I wanted to check it out personally before sinking in money.
It’s basically the same as wrx Sti but no one wants to race me all the time
Let me see if I can find pictures of the headlights though because those are sick like Bugatti style ones
The speed 6 with the Bugatti style headlights - has the sequential/animated turn of all the lights too for the turn signal (I did not make these I just found them and thought they looked sick)
(I’ve since removed all badging and have a jdm style front filler thing instead of the M in the grill so it looks sleeker)
those look sick how much did they cost you
My catalytic converter decided to off itself, can't wait to get that fixed...
I should get LED headlights and taillights for my 911
Those headlights look amazing!
Definitely, the newer Porsche headlights look really cool with the 4 leds.
@late creek idk if they fit on the 997.1
I’d be curious if there aren’t aftermarket ones that are a similar style though.
Idk
I think less than $300 - I may have to weather proof them better eventually but for now they have been going great for 6+ months
Hell yeah a Ducati
i got a 2013 VW polo 1.2L and recently the AC compressor stopped working and it's costing me like $260 to fix it. is that a fair deal?
Did you check like fuses or liquid etc on your own?
It's not expensive, it is doable yourself but you'd need a lot of specialist tools.
And the knowledge on how much Freon(Gas) you have to put in the system and which one. But like Migo said, first check the fuses and stuff. If there is not enough gas in your system you might have another problem, and your compressor might be fine.
260 is a fair price I'd say
does this look bad?
In the EU it is impossible to do it yourself filling R134a or R1234yf unless you have certification to handle coolants because of environmental rules
Car garages don’t need that certificate, my dad has worked for 30 years in HVAC and I have a couple of years experience in the field
And most cars nowadays don’t use R134a.
And honestly, soooo many people don’t have the right certificates and still work with coolants. There should be way better policing of the rules.
Mine has R134a
Mine too, so luckily I can fix it myself with the help of my dad. That stuff is expensive tho
The switch from r134a to R1234yf is around 2009 i think
I drive an A-class from 2000, so don’t know when the switch was
A good replacement for r134a is propane (in performance, not in safety)
There are some other replacements, but each has it’s downsides and benefits
In America it’s newer than that, it’s like 2013-2015 that it actually started to become common use, from my personal experience anyway
My waterneck on the daily exploded yesterday. 30 years of heat cycling will do that I guess lol.
It was hilarious I heard a big WHOOOSH and a comically large steam cloud came out from under my hood. Thankfully I was sitting still
Yeah in Europe is only forbidden since 2018, so up till that point many cars were still being sold with R134a, especially on car models which were already in production when the transition began
Newly introduced models probably got R1234yf
Exactly, costs the company money to redesign a compressor they won’t do it until they have to
I didn't even know they moved away from r134a
Is it weird to like your truck too much when you had it for 10 years lol ?
I'm trying to hit 480k at 479.890
That's either two hours of driving. Or a month of repairs.
what bmw is this?
I fixed them lol @civic spoke
Last generation 3/4 series?
Got a garage for that so I was thinking if my engine blows up I was gonna ask my friend to engine swap it
Like a LS engine
Yeah
It’s a 2015 335i
nice
I have a car! 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i
I bet you will have a good time in the snow with all wheel drive :)
And also is this car squatting or it is very tired
The front is normal but the back must be carrying oversized people
I liked how two cars open there trunks after crashing
Because of 'environmental' issues
Oh yeah that's usually what it is for with refrigerant
saw a neat VW bug the other day
Holy
I'm a peugeot owner
307 SW?
Yep
The 1.6 one or the 2.0 one?
2.0
And its slow compared to my 3 banger focus
Probably heavier
Much safer
But for 1300eur
Ita not that bad
Went to mechanic
Only needs front stabilizer link

My Ford just drinks 2 liters more of petrol
oof
My first instinct was to get rid of the stock radio
We had it with the 5 disc CD changer
But yeah it's just standard 1/2-DIN, you can install both if you want
I still use MP3 CDs 😎
I just shoved the crappy radio I had in my focus
need to make a new one
or buy new one
saw an HKS test car today too
and an RX-7 with an engine bay so clean you could eat off of it
1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z
We recently sold one of the newer generations
When a videogame car looks more realistic than a literal picture of my garage

They look about the same
Damn it now I want to play more forza but I'm stuck at work
but you corvette is better 😉

i think its the lighting, if you took a picture of your car in the sunshine it would look more realistic than the screenshot
Holy shit, I've been looking for this for years
When I was in a Harrier Squadron I found some blueprints for the AV-8B Harrier. Have no idea why we had them, but I snuck this one out. It's marked as being a reproduction one half size of the original as well
Bombardier train wiring diagrams kept under tighter security.
That’s awesome
bigi
Nice
1:01 mark is the meanest TB I've heard
Rare number plates, where is it from?
Those are Jersey plates
Parking space bait
Lul
Malding when I finally found a parking lot with a smart car all the way in which I thought was a empty space :^(
Smart car in the wild pog
Lol
Need new radio tho
yes
the stock one is only useless because it accepts cds
and has broken antenna
and the one I took from my old ford fell apart and it's held by tape just to work now
I wish I could drive a car😭
I mean you can, but you shouldn't
@fathom socket slow
I bought a Ford transit van in May to travel in over the summer, I'm listing it for sale now and I find out its worth $15,000 more than I paid lmao the market is crazy
When people are begging for a 90s LDV pilot you know its fucked
them toes tho 🤤
LDV have a diesel making 160Kw / 500Nm out of a small Bi-turbo
I would be surprised how long that shitheap will last
My friend has a non turbo diesel one
making like 60hp
reaching 85mph on a steep downhill is an achievement
uphill merge roads 💀
It was going to get a 1.9 turbo diesel from a Citroen BX but someone offered good money for the engine
God no
thats called a magic roundabout! 🙂
imagine if the road markings wore away like most roads in the UK
Where is this so I know to never go there
me at Oxford
if that looks like hell to you
don't go to Milton Keynes
also if it looks fine
don't go to Milton Keynes
(in England)
Was there to pick up some train parts then ofskies
I'm trying to find a new headunit for my car and everything is so expensive used
I can say the people in Milton Keynes suck because the people sent the wrong stuff so many times that they sent me to collect the stuff myself
any scrapyard near you
Are you looking for the peugeot one
no
suprised you cant find a standard sized one then
I'm looking for aftermarket bluetooth one
the puegeot one does not even have Aux in
and Radio doesn't work
I can only listen to slayer that is stuck inside
everyone sells only cd radios
my radio in fiat had CD/FM-AM
and cd wasnt mp3
I installed singledin on 2din adapter faceplate
could ditch the shitbox life and just do normie monthly payments on a car :^ |
That is such a weird roundabout
British crap they call a roundabout
Europe makes fun of the us not understanding roundabouts, meanwhile the English are like: that is how complicated the us thinks roundabouts are lets build it like that.
@vocal mural 50% of the Top 10 best selling cars in Europe last month are Stellantis... what's your opinion on that? 😛
Way more focuses than mondeos in the UK
I think it's more surprsing that Renault have 30% of the top 10
What’s a good starter car to do up for like 10-15k Aud
Golf Alltrack
Peugeot 2008 dominates the market? I thought it was Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo and VW Up/Seat Mii/Škoda Citigo trio.
Lol that was 10 years ago 😛 And also not really in Europe, 🇳🇱 market isn't really representative of European market 😉
50% Stellantis
30% Renault
10% Ford
10% VAG

Also yeah I think the Focus sells way better than the Mondeo nowadays
Not really surprising, the 2nd size (fiesta, polo) have long been at the tops of the charts over the teeny tiny ones
and the 2008 is vaguely pretending to be an SUV, which is hyper popular too
The Captur and T-Roc are that exact same size class too
its basically an intersection with a pole in the middle
meanwhile india
hyundai veloster is good but why is it sooo underrated
underrated how?
i feel like it is
Enthusiasts love it, it gets rave reviews on YouTube and car mags and sells well
idk why but all my friends ignore it
Polarizing style
And not quite as functional as a traditional hatchback
Nice car tho
Fiat panda masterrace
Probably mostly sold in Italy
fiat stilo masterrace
Fastback miata!
It is brilliant
Especially 4x4
Its more like a parent roundabout that recursively calls 5 mini roundabouts
They might aswell call it the 8x8 to make it sound coolier
hehe pishy pishy power steering fluid
Fluid leak, but not excessive slight leak at power steering rack. (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Should be getting an OG9-3 rack with a Volvo electric pump although im pretty sure my car has a 70 amp alternator so that needs changed to the 130
sheesh
Looks soooooooooo sick
Thank you
Tell that vw with their lifted cross up, I'd liked to see something similar to the panda 4x4, all we got is a "SUVs" which are actually just fwd lifted normal cars are popular here is the same but with an up
Such offroad such wow
Yeah I think Fiat is the only one offering actual 4x4 in the segment
New Aygo is now also the Aygo Cross or Aygo X with the X pronounced as Cross, but it's still the regular FWD + 1.0
Same what Opel also did with the Karl Rocks, Picanto with the R-Cross I think it was? All just FWD
Fiat is the only one with actual 4x4
But what I meant was, when you saw it previously you knew instantaneous the owner was a bad-ass and had the actual 4x4 version, now it might just as well be the plebian 4x2 version 😛
Since i know i gonna have to replace my shitbox within something like 2 years i already got a few cars in mind and damn panda 4x4 would be one of the i consider it because I just like it xD
Can't blame you
I mean it sounds way cooler than cars that would actually be the smart option like octavia the 1.6l hybrid one
that should not exist
A3 allroad is apparently coming, which is interesting
Not sure what the market is, but there apparently is one. Who is buying one of those over a Q3 or an A3?
I say that as a fan of lifted wagons
I don't even know what the difference between a subcompact CUV and a lifted hatchback even is
A3 quattro always existed
Yes I know
Octavia 1.6 Hybrid? 🤔
It is/was a one-off for promotional purposes
still
Allroad = raised a bit + added plastics 😛
