Most insurance companies here wont even insure engine swaps let alone cutting half the floor out for a tunnel.

timber oar

They fine you for a cold air intake iirc

charred depot

id love to swap a little diesel into my saab to save money on fuel. but that would just be transferring the money spent on fuel to a hiked insurance rate.

timber oar
#

Hell you can just drive with no plates here most of the time in my state

#

Cops just don't care

#

I would recommend not doing that lol

#

One day you could come across one in a bad mood

dense shard
#

North Dakota is mostly lenient.

#

I've seen ATVs on the road here.

charred depot
#

id probably take the risk if it was fines and not lol get banned from driving for atleast a year then when you get unbanned have to pay 5x the amount for insurance.

timber oar
#

But then we are in the middle of the whole police defunding thing here so that might be taming them

dense shard
#

As long as modifications don't mess with emissions, it should be fine imo

#

oh and I suppose noise regulations.

charred depot
#

we technically have to declare down to a sticker to our insurance companies

timber oar
#

Idc about emissions it's a waste of everyone's time and money

dense shard
#

I wouldn't say money.

charred depot
#

all these people putting fake M badges on their car then having it stolen and their claim denied

timber oar
#

Especially since the coal rollers can just stop coal rolling

dense shard
#

Higher emissions have been linked to increased medical costs.

#

Which in the US everyone does have to pay at the end of the day.

timber oar
#

Go let emissions taketheir 20 bucks

#

And start coal rolling again

dense shard
#

That's 20 dollars added to your insurance premiums.

#

And EPA when they do catch you, will fine you a decent amount.

#

Frankly getting the EPA to actually fine private owners means those owners 10000% deserved it.

timber oar
#

And then the rest of the time like one of my friends

#

One of his o2 sensors is messed up

#

Stock vehicle

#

So it's running a tad lean from the altitude

dense shard
#

Yeah, I doubt they're gonna throw much of a tizzy over that.

timber oar
#

And that won't pass emissions

dense shard
#

I can't speak for state emissions, I was only referring to federal.

timber oar
#

I'm talking specifically about our state emissions testing here

dense shard
#

ah yeah

#

Those are a huge pain.

timber oar
#

Its absolutely infuriating

dense shard
#

Yeah, but by the same count I'm all for cleaner air.

charred depot
#

You wont even be tested here if you have an EML on

dense shard
#

The US, especially the midwest would benefit greatly from some form of safety inspection on road going cars.

#

Some cars should NOT be on the road.

#

At the very least it would incentivize people to actually take care of their rides.

timber oar
#

I'm for cleaner air so long as the 500 year old people making the regulations that don't understand physics and engineering don't start going way beyond what is feasible

dense shard
#

Nothing the government has proposed is impossible.

#

I remember when everyone screeched at the back up camera mandate.

#

Turns out the cost of adding that in wasn't hundreds of dollars rather tens.

timber oar
#

Every year, we just keep pushing harder and harder

dense shard
#

We have to. You can always buy another car. You can't buy another environment.

charred depot
#

majority of modern cars have horrible screens might aswell use them for something useful.

dense shard
#

And automakers have risen to the challenge each time successfully.

timber oar
#

Yeah no i don't appreciate being told what I'm going to have on my car at all

charred depot
#

That was just for new cars no?

dense shard
#

I appreciate automakers being held to a standard.

#

And I like having ABS, airbags, and a few dozen other safety goodies.

dense shard
charred depot
#

so no real issue

timber oar
#

Its pretty much why i like old cars

dense shard
#

And to be fair, the market has largely pushed for safer cars with strong safety tech.

timber oar

#

Or abs

dense shard
#

There are cars that should not be on the road.

timber oar

Abs is nice

dense shard
#

ABS has saved my ass a few times.

charred depot
#

you never know when you might want to deploy smoke screen

dense shard
#

I get that people can do that pump brake thing, but a modern system is going to trounce your foot 10/10 times in most conditions.

#

And apparently modern SUVs will fill in the niche conditions like sand... which is wild.

timber oar
#

I don't like it mainly because it makes brake bleeding way harder

dense shard
#

lol that's fair

#

That's absolutely fair.

timber oar
#

Im a huge self vehicle repair kind of person

charred depot
#

had no problems with just a vacuum bleeder at the caliper.

timber oar
#

Don't you have to activate the abs actuator though?

dense shard
#

I'll take the inconvenience personally. There's a good chance I'll never personally work on my Corolla.

charred depot
#

no

timber oar
#

Everything I've seen is that you have to

dense shard
#

Jeep tho? meh. I'll sell it if something serious brakes.

timber oar
#

Or some have a bleeder on them if you are lucky

charred depot
#

never heard of it and our civic had all of its hardlines done by the time it was scrapped.

dense shard
#

I imagine a lot of OBDII tools have a bleed function for the ABS unit.

#

There are a lot of things you can still DIY engine wise, but you either need computers... or heaven help most owners... a proprietary piece of streamed software.

charred depot
#

Its only if you want to replace all of the fluid you need to do that

dense shard
#

I know getting the rear brakes changed in the Corolla are going to be a pain to replace.

charred depot
#

alternatively you can flush the system, bleed it. go out for a drive and slam on the brakes then flush it through again.

dense shard
#

I get why electronic parking brakes are a thing. But I don't like them.

#

That's my boomer breaking point.

#

I just like the idea that it's your sheer strength that's keeping the car from moving. You gotta pull hard on the parking brake to make it stay. Or press it down all the way. The button? Is my finger really all that's needed to keep 3000 pounds of steel from moving on a hill? So I pull/push the button twice just to be sure.

charred depot
#

never trust the handbrake anyway

dense shard
#

I don't have much choice.

#

Leaving my car in gear is my back up.

charred depot
#

dads car didnt have a handbrake for basically 3 years but were able to adjust it out so far each year for the MOT that the rusted solid mechanism being pulled on would put enough force on the shoes.

#

then it ran out shoes and we were forced to actually solve the problem

dense shard
#

Jeep's handbrake doesn't work.

#

Which is fine.

#

It's mostly flat here.

charred depot
#

hill starts were fun in the hyundai

#

clutch took a fair bit of punishment from my dad but seems it was the throwout bearing that has suffered and not the friction material.

#

will maybe be the point it gets scrapped. he doesent really care what he drives but doubt I can fob the saab off to him with its fuel economy.

#

will probably be worth it to just fix the hyundai the way prices are going.

timber oar
#

thats the thing i just want to bleed the brakes and be done

#

and not faf with a computer to do it properly

#

if the abs module had a bleeder id be fine but i really got the impression thats a luxury

charred depot
#

well you dont really need to do that unless you are anal about getting every drop out

#

if you replace your fluid every year youll be just fine

stiff burrow

I don’t really mind if my handbrake is electronic or mechanical. I only use it when parking on a hill.

And for traction, that all depends on how you surface the concrete.

charred depot

Concrete is also more expensive.

Doesn't help that they want to close down the place here in Sweden that provides us with the majority of the product used in concrete.

German highways are originally built on concrete slabs, but it will mostly be replaced by asphalt.
Sweden did have some concrete highways, because the Germans build a few stretches there.
