both are good cars, but it heavily heavily depends on what exactly you want out of the car and what you'll do with it

A rotary needs adult supervision, constant care and tinkering, and to be driven and abused on the regular. Little issues you might ignore forever on something else are imperative you deal with immediately.
They are fun, sound great, and nothing else will ever come close to the experience.

But the Lexus you can just drive and drive. Do an oil change, timing belt, maybe a thermostat and coolant once in a blue moon as a special treat. It'll just keep going without any special care

You're comparing a Toyota "sporty" luxury car and comparing it to a real sports car that likes to throw tantrums over everything

The RX-7 probably won't run or drive half the time, and if you do your maintenance it won't be for the motor. No matter how you look at it, rotary or not, it's an older car that will suffer from electrical issues early 80s EFI (or carburetor woes, depending on which rx-7 you get; maybe even turbo and vacuum issues if it's an FD), suspension components from ancient times that direly need replaced, and rust everywhere

Both are good project cars, but they suit different wants and needs.

As an owner of an RX-7 myself, if you want to be able to drive your car a lot, you definitely don't want one. Things will break and it'll take on the driveway queen status

But a built 2J car against a rotary car there’s no question I’d rather have the JZ. Just because of how easy parts are to get for JZ motors. Rebuilding a rotary can be a bit of a pain, because you don’t really hone housings, when they get a gouge they’re done and you have to buy a new housing. They’re not cheap either.

If that VVT GE has aftermarket pistons and rods, it’s the better motor compared to the non vvti GE, you get a very nice bump to low end torque when tuned properly.
