#

Ideally it will eventually be twin turboed but that may be in the distant future as it will cost a decent amount so hopefully at least a single turbo for the time being

Smaller shitty but reliable engines cause here in Europe we got higher tax if a car has higher cc than 1.6, new European standard is cars are 1.0 or 1.4, so nope, mosts cars with a 2.0 died cause of taxes (some of them have left cause the owner has enough money or something)

Lol here, for cars up to 25 years, you just pay the regular amount.

After that, there's a "quarter-tax" which reduced the price to 25% of the tax, but you can't drive it a quarter of the year (dec-feb). So with the quarter tax, you pay a quarter of the regular tax but you can't drive it a quarter of the year

After 40 years, a car is tax free

#

speaking of engine sound.....
ofc there are those superbike and supercar sounds with very high pitched tones at >8kRPM.
But i wondered, quad/atvs on the other side usually seem to have a very low pitched, but evenly loud sound, just being "darker" kinda.

Neither bikes nor quads to my understanding are insulated i suppose.
and RPM does ofc play a role.
but generally, what on those define wether sound is high or low?
both Quads/atvs and many supersport bikes mostly use a V2 engine. both come with 600 to 1000ccm generally.

so...what defines the pitch of the sound?

civic girder
#

cam profile, displacement, compression, firing order, exhaust piping, exhaust diameter, intake diameter, the list goes on

#

basically anything to do with the engine and how it runs can affect its sound in some way

fathom socket
#

so no general way to determine the Sound of an engine based on specs?

civic girder
#

Like take a Ferrari v8 and a Corvette LT1 for example. Both are fairly hefty displacement. But the Ferrari sounds smoother and refined with a higher pitch. The primary reasoning behind this is that the Ferrari uses a flat plane crank while an LS uses a cross plane crank

#

sound primarily comes from cylinder count, crank style, and cam/valve actuation style

#

pushrod and dual cams sound slightly different

#

If you do some research on it, Harley does some weird ass firing order bullshit to make their V Twins sound so deep and meaty

vocal shard
#

The biggest factor is the exhaust

civic girder
#

and ofc a 2 stroke of the same displacement as a 4 stroke will sound different

vocal shard
#

Even with the same engine

civic girder
#

That wasn't exactly his question

vocal shard
#

I know

#

Just adding my op

civic girder
#

The exahust is the biggest way to effect the sound of an engine, but is not a defining factor in how an engine sounds overall

vocal shard
#

True

civic girder
#

the VQ for example, doesn't matter what exhaust you have it will sound like a trumpet. But it could be quiet, loud, raspy, etc

vocal shard
#

Fact

fathom socket
#

actually...
commonly, quads drive past me and im always stunned by the deep but also loud growl.
like if there would be a tuned heavy duty truck driving past me or similar.

i wondered if its possible to search vehicles which also have that deep sound.
but apparently that cannot be determined by the specs which are usually given.

civic girder
#

they probably use weird ass firing order and don't even have cams

#

probably some type of pushrod

vocal shard
#

The deep sound come from a big exhaust most of the time (comparing the same engine ) and the engine itself

civic girder
#

I mean quads are like 500cc or less

#

a big exhaust would decrease horsepower KEKW

fathom socket
civic girder

Here's a real Toyota truck.

stiff burrow
#

Lol

bitter compass
#

Why do i know imagine people in the future driving around the city with those because "they feel safer to drive around in than a golf, if i hit anything the forks will protect me"

#

My brain is weird

lucid karma
#

Worst brand

#

I’d rather drive a Kia than a Volkswagen

stiff burrow
#

lmao

stiff burrow
#

id rather drive a vw than a toyota

flint sable
stiff burrow
#

specifically a golf gti or golf r

flint sable
#

✨

stiff burrow
#

toyota is completely average aside from the supra. plus they are lobbying against EVs.

#

and the supra is just a reskinned bmw z4 so they dont have anything special going for them

#

honda too but they have the civic type r which is pretty cool

lucid karma
lucid karma
stiff burrow
#

ok

lucid karma
#

The golf GTI is a garbage vehicle

#

They barely make any power and break constantly

stiff burrow
#

bruh

#

the 86 is slower than a semi truck but is still a fun car

#

the gti is the same kinda car

lucid karma
#

Whereas I buy a beat up GS300 for $2000 on Facebook and make 750 at the wheels with another 2000 in parts

stiff burrow
#

hp isnt everything

#

just because it doesnt go from 0-60 in 0.0005 seconds doesnt mean its a slow garbage vehicle

#

smh

lucid karma
#

Well they also handle amazing out of the box

lucid karma
stiff burrow
#

good luck finding any good car for $2000 in todays market

lucid karma
stoic ledge
#

Not that the UX 300e is particularly good

#

But atleast they are coming with EV's

#
  • some rebadged EV PSA/Stellantis vans
stiff burrow
#

they dont really want evs to happen which is why they are lobbying against them

stoic ledge
#

Are they really lobbying against it? Idk

stiff burrow
#

Toyota has earned a place in the history of transport electrification. The Japanese automaker’s introduction of the Prius hybrid in 1997 was a milestone. Since then, the company has sold some 15 million hybrids worldwide, and has gradually added hybrid powertrains to more of its offerings—a majority of Toyota and Lexus models are now available.....

#

first article on google

stoic ledge
#

Imho that's not really lobbying against it... they're more playing the waiting game (to see how reliability is? to find better technology? ... )

stiff burrow
#

there are more articles on this from the summer

lucid karma
#

And they sound better to boot

stiff burrow
#

they wanted governments to lessen emission standards

lucid karma
#

Also toyota is a pioneer of hydrogen cars. Which are overall a better solution than EVs.

stiff burrow
lucid karma
#

Because existing engines can be converted to run on hydrogen

lucid karma
#

And most of the pollution of a car is in manufacturing it not running it. So if we just have people convert their existing cars to hydrogen we knock out a TON of pollution from building new EVs

stoic ledge
lucid karma
#

Just building a Tesla model Y puts out as much pollution as building a Honda Civic and driving it 150k miles

stoic ledge
#

Fuel cells also require some very precious materials, even more than a batterypack

stiff burrow
#

also. Chevy: Camaro with LT1 and LT4, Corvette with LT2 and upcoming 5.5l flat plane, CT5-V BW with LT4 (and manual) Ford Mustang GT, GT350 and GT500, silverado with 5.3 and 6.2l, V8 f150 and the 6.7L power stroke, 6.6L duramax

stoic ledge
#

It's not 150k miles difference lol

stiff burrow
#

and lexus makes like 3 cars with a v8

stoic ledge
#

Also don't forget that hydrogen is way less efficient, well-to-wheel for hydrogen is less than half of that of an EV

lucid karma
stoic ledge
#

Which isn't a problem if you use overproduction of electricity to create hydrogen

lucid karma
#

Chevy has camaro and corvette, ford has mustang.

stoic ledge
#

It is a problem if you specifically have to generate power to create hydrogen, as you need twice the green sources (water, sun, wind) for the same result

lucid karma
#

Dodge has charger challenger and that’s it.

#

So Toyota makes as many V8 sports cars as the big 3 put together

stiff burrow
#

including trucks

lucid karma
#

And diesels do not count

stoic ledge
#

If I ever see a Lexus, which isn't often, it's a hybrid

#

They don't even sell non-hybrids here anymore

stiff burrow
#

you never specified sports vehicles lmfao

#

you just said v8s in general

lucid karma
stiff burrow
#

last time i checked a truck counts as a car

lucid karma
#

a truck is a truck

#

A car is a car

#

Besides the new V6 tundra will wax a coyote F150

stiff burrow
#

ok so there is the camaro, corvette, challenger, charger, mustang, TRX and trackhawk

#

those are performance vehicles

stoic ledge
lucid karma
#

Even if we’re gonna count the 🤮 trucks, it’s still a sad number from ā€œAmerican muscleā€

stiff burrow
#

toyota fanboy

lucid karma
stoic ledge
#

I know what it looks like lol

#

I just thought they discontinued it

stiff burrow
#

if you want to count variations there is the camaro lt1, ss/2ss, zl1 and zl1 1le, corvette stingray and z06, ct5v blackwing, mustang gt, gt350, gt500, dodge challenger hellcat, dodge charger hellcat, chrysler 300s, dodge durango hellcat, jeep grand cherokee trackhawk, ram trx

lucid karma
stiff burrow

lexus only has the lc500 and rc f

the camaro and ct5v can be had with 650+ hp and a manual

Yes because towing it on the top of my priority list with this car

if you need to tow rent a truck from home depot

stoic ledge

Km/h that is

lucid karma

Vortec 8100 is an interesting power plant. It’s somewhere stuck between LS and Big block but it’s neither

It’s basically a big block with LS port angles and electronics
