Under General Motors, Saab was repositioned as a luxury marque. This meant that the NG900 would be positioned, and priced, above the Opel Vectra, with which it shared its chassis platform. It would also make the bottom-of-the-range 900i more expensive than the Vectra. This led to cost-reduction measures for the 900i. The 900i would lose its rear-window wiper, the exclusive Saab Information Display, and would utilize a different instrument layout with a mechanical odometer instead of a digital one; first versions were even lacking tachometer. The NG900i would also lose its rear spoiler.```

I only know the old ones not too sure about the new ones lol

#

If modern cars would stop using plastic components smh

#

They would break less often

dense shard
#

Scotty is full of shit tho

#

Composites are also lighter, and few if any cars use plastics as a structural part.

#

Allows for more complex shapes to be formed. Allow for more aerodynamic cars.

#

Also his freaking Celica has a lot of plastic.

#

painfully clickbait, cripes

fathom socket
#

Oh lol well I'm not familiar with that channel as often but I hate that I had to replace the plastic part that runs the water pump and I replaced it with a aluminum one and still holds for 6 years after replacing it

#

The belt Snapped and broke the plastic so it wasn't it's fault actually

#

But I can't trust new cars these days I see them pull over broken down every day at the highway.

dense shard
#

He has a hint of being correct, but his delivery is just tragic. Yeah perhaps you shouldn't use plastic in moving parts, but a thermostat has one moving part. Properly designed... shouldn't break.

#

I see old cars on the side of roads.

fathom socket
#

Or people don't know how to use them well and they don't last very well

dense shard
#

A modern car will outlast anything from 40 years ago hands down.

fathom socket
#

If you take care of it lol

dense shard
#

And anything has a fair chance of hitting 250k if properly maintained.

#

But modern cars have a better chance if current trends are anything to go on.

fathom socket
#

Well I never own a modern car before rip

dense shard
#

Average age of cars on the road right now are pushing 13 years.

fathom socket
#

My truck is 18 years old at 450k I feel nervous driving it so I drive it like an old man during work use hoping the engine does not break down.

#

Well it smells and sounds normal but I know for a fact at 450k those pistons are probably worned down big time

dense shard
#

taking it easy is another good way ¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

And when its time, just rebuild the engine lol, especially if everything else is as good as it sounds.

#

#

So cheap

#

I think it's the same price in 1990s

#

Anyway I'll need sleep got work tomorrow and I'll feel sad driving my truck to work in the morning with a dent that I didn't do grrr

fathom socket
#

Diesel is expensive as fuck, I drive about 25k per year as well.

#

I'm just glad my boss pays diesel for the work truck I have KEKW

#

48 gallons of diesel is a nightmare in a f250 we use to carry 4500 bricks in the truck bed.

civic girder
#

I will say, modern cars can be just as unreliable as old cars

fathom socket
#

Yep they are all mechanical nothing can't last long

civic girder
#

People will still be stupid. People will still ignore all the idiot lights. People will still find ways to inadvertently break shit

fathom socket
#

We don't last long either

civic girder
#

and there have also been huge strings of widespread design flaws and factory fuckups

fathom socket
#

Oh I ignore them lmao check engine light is been there for 16 years

civic girder
#

so in all reality, new cars aren't that much better than old cars in the sense of longevity and reliability

#

They have traded higher build quality for more features and better safety

dense shard
#

I'd say build quality has only gone up over the years.

#

Tesla aside.

civic girder
#

Now, if the car is taken care of properly, a new car would 10/10 times last longer than a old car ever could

dense shard
#

Both will last equally long, but the old car will take exponentially more work to keep running.

civic girder

#

No creaking, soft touch plastics in most places.

civic girder
#

I would agree. I had a 2021 Corolla rental for a while and it was definitely not as cheap feeling as my Honda

#

Feels substantial on the road.

#

Tho the front end is kinda... huge.

#

civic girder
#

Like, my mom's Chrysler van has more damn information and its 2 years older.
Why doesn't my Honda display oil pressure, temperature, and tell me what my tire pressure is? Or even at a bare minimum, my coolant temp?

fathom socket
#

Is it true that you have to drive them hard on the rx7 and 8 because I was told that the rotary engines hate to idle and low rpms ?

civic girder
#

It is a difficult question to answer tbh

#

And primarily depends on how you define "drive them hard"

fathom socket
#

Like it needs high revs to keep the engine working properly lol

dense shard
#

Oil pressure and temp I know I don't need. I expect Toyota to do it right.

civic girder
#

Yes, you need to rev out a rotary engine. But technically speaking you do not need to drive the car hard

dense shard
#

Coolant temp... no clue why people are omitting that.

#

Also yeah. Tire pressure monitoring is a thing. Gimmie numbers brah

civic girder

Ive helped work on a car before, and let me tell you. You basically need your own wrench set for american cars, and they arent using standard metric stuff usually, and sometimes they like to basically make it as hard as possible to get access to some parts.

#

Hello dear people. I got big questions for y'all ! Tomorrow, I have to choose between three cars : one less than 5000 km, one exposition and one brand new, all of them are 95 HP, 3 cylinders with turbo Here is the dilemma :

  • VW Polo 2021, well equiped (all things from front radar to back camera (no lane assist tho). It's pretty expensive to get though.
  • Skoda Kamiq 2020, well equiped too (no back camera or front radar but there is lane assist). My problem with the kamiq is that I fear the fuel consumption... but it's cheap
  • Skoda Fabia 2022, as well equiped as the Kamiq but as the name implies, it comes out in january... it's cheap and not drinking gas as much as the kamiq

Any advice or different point of view ? 😄 (french market btw, that's why my english sucks)
