Or at the relay
Adding 1 bigger resistor in series is the same as multiple smaller ones
Yo, made a lil racing vid of my shitbox 335i if anyone’s interested
Aka anyone who would be down for a fun run
Made this vid bored on my phone, if somehow I’m blessed with views I’ll make more content
Nice
^^
What having a display in your dash?
That would irritate me
Got dust between the plexiglas and the dash in my car, i feel you
Then again it isn't that hard to get that piece off but meeh disassembling the buttons etc
Im too lazy for that
And tbh pisses me less off than the scratched piano black plastic around the volume knob 👀
For you, me and a lot of people... but I know there are people who actually failed their test with a manual multiple times and had no issues doing the test with an automatic.
how the hell do you fail a manual test
the hardest part is just getting going and i had that down after like a month or two
if that long
damn you make a valid point
XD
not to mention
i learned on a near 300k mile manual
with the synchros going out
and a really short 1st because its a truck trans
got a lower mile one with more evenly spaced gears and only 4 speed
no issue
I already knew how to drive when i started my lessons. I had to learn the proper way to "look" (turn your head when using the mirrors)
ive already moved onto manually synchronizing for down shifts to lighten the load on the synchros
so what cars do you guys have?
I've driven Wheelloaders, Tractors, (golf)Karts and forklifts since i was like 9 yo. so when i had my first lesson, the instructor got a bit overwhelmed xD
@wanton jetty the stick i practiced on that im talking about is my 1st gen 4runner
My dad's old car (gasoline) basically had no coupling plates left.... really awkward when you are used to Diesel and don't need to rev when coupling in 1st gear
the not synchronized j shift transfer case is my favorite tbh
2011 Ford KA 🥺
diesels you can just let the clutch go and it doesnt stall
Yup
so much low end torque
Gasoline.. not
Now try doing it with gone coupling plates
ahah
lmao yeah
basically, now they are not touching, and now they are completely locked
i would
LOVE
to have a tremec t56 magnum
to shove in my trans am
laughs in engineering spectacle
Well that conversation was... interesting. Went to the local subie dealer to see how much it'd be for them to remove the headliner on my Forester so I can install a roof rack, and the service tech said if I put a tent on the rack the roof would collapse.
Why do you need to remove the headliner to install a roof rack?
Also pretty sure it can take the weight of a roof top tent... just stay under the weight limit.
Most cars can fit a roof top tent provided it's under the weight limit. Usually 100-300 pounds.
And apparently that's only when the car is in motion. Static weight limit is probably higher.
i was thinking the samething lol
nice

I love Stena line
Sometimes taking Kiel to Gotenburg
I feel your pain
I want one of these so bad 😩
Which engine did it have?
I saw some guy online put a 583 in his 😂
take motorway route to get home faster
cable clutch with rusted cable vs my left knee in the queues
😂😂😂
Lmao
Mastermilo wants to have
350 small block bored to 355, all new internals and an upgraded cam
not the coolest engine but the car is still sick
Nice
I wish this wasn't a question I had to ask but it's there any way to fix rod knock without pulling the engine
Depending on the car you can do big end bearings with the engine in situ
ofcourse it depends on the damage, if it has been continually used the crankshaft may be ruined.
<@&750150305383186585>
ive seen engines where
there have been miniature grand canyons worn into the crankshaft
because of rod knock
and driving on it
Luckily I caught it and only drove like 2 miles after it happened and tried my best to keep it at low rpms
probably fine
replace the bearings tho xD
just pull it dont screw around with trying to do that in the car
Dang so I will need to pull my engine then
you will waste more time doing it upside down than it will take to pull it
Thank you
Plenty of people do it with it in the car, If you can raise it high enough it will save you a bunch of time.
If you can get the car on a lift you will save tonnes of time
Sadly don't have one of those and I would need to drop the subframe to remove the oil pan
Just a perk of owning a miata
On my car you can loosen the subframe bolts enough to get the pan out
Tesla's New Steering Yoke Shows Little Benefit and Potential Safety Pitfalls
People are not impressed
ima probably get warned but i want my car to look like this
it looks like a
charger?
idk
Looks pretty cool honestly
yes
haha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LpLuTVNGG4 I kinda want one.
He fell in love with it on The Grand Tour so much that he bought one, and now James May has a bit of a public service announcement about just what the Alpine A110 is all about.
It's only real positive is the fact that you can see the instrument panel.
Something most competent automakers can work around without making the steering wheel worse.
It's an issue Citroen solved in the 50s... and they kept a round wheel... and actually still looks radical.
more saab stuff
Cant believe my car passed its MOT with the brake lines as bad as they were, ferrule was practically gone.
Instrument cluster visibility isn’t an issue on most cars. Almost every car from the past 70+ years has this figured out
Tesla is creating a solution for a nonexistent problem
The yoke does look cool tho
why
I can't say ive ever had an issue seeing my instruments
I'm honestly surprised tesla didn't just throw everything on the center touchscreen and not even bother with an instrument cluster
Cause screw having buttons and guages amirite
shudders
New Peugeots sometimes have this issue, as they require you to position so you look over it to see the gauges
So you have to position the steeringwheel relatively low, so it may hit your legs, and when you move is up a bit you can't completely see the dials
James may, james may stealing from the rich, james may james may stealing from the poor
I need help
there is a fix
this but better
if it was an option on the tesla website or if it was inbuilt
this helps in manual vehicle but idrk if this would help for an over all two handed operation , another fix could be making the steering wheel more sensitive
I'm pretty sure those are illegal over here in regular cars lol
What tf
It's a safety hazard in accidents
Oh , makes sense
Yeah like that'll impale your chest if you get smacked against the steering wheel
If you hit your mouth you're ded
Well that too
Hence the term suicide knob.
The headline of that article seems to be saying that the reason that Tesla did it was to make it safer
I don't think anyone is arguing that yokes are safer
Tesla are merely saying that it's cool, and safe enough
Brodie knob? See them on trucks all the time, heard some arguments that it makes steering with one hand easier ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Tesla's new yoke is another step towards one of Elon's childhood crayon drawing dream of driving an F1 racecar lol
Difference is the amount of steering input required.
😬 that does not look good at all lmao
what a strange design choice
They call it i-Cockpit
If it fits for you, it's quite nice
Sadly is doesn't fit for everyone xD
the quality actually looks pretty good and i like the driver centric design but whatever is going on with the steering wheel is not it
other than that i actually kinda like it
My saab has bus steering wheel so its pretty out the way of the gauges
Why are you using a Scania wheel in your Saab?
Heh ive got scania saab center caps on my alloys aswell
But the steering wheel is bloody massive
Saab was from the same company as Scania
Now Saab is owned by Spyker and Scania by Volkswagen
Yeah. Which is why I said it xD
I like it though its much easier to be precise when navigating small town junctions
the small mazda wheel i was always pretty jittery with when letting it feed straight
MAN is also owned by
Basically the same thing.
I like Scania lorries tbh
Seems like VW owns most of the European brands 😂
VAG is massive.
"The Group comprises twelve brands from seven European countries: Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania and MAN."
I had never heard of SEAT, Skoda, Scania or Man before talking here and in other servers
That would be fun to drive off-road
Ahh. Yes. The trucks that are like 3 cm too tall to drive on public roads.
TL;DR the Dutch bought 1,600 new Scania's. And they are just a smidge too tall.
Sounds like something the Dutch would do
The funkiest Scania trucks are probably the T cabs.
(C) Min of Defence
Those mirrors are huge
On the military one? Extra pair for the driver and passenger.
Wow
The passenger and driver are looking at the bottom ones for their side. And the middle one for their far side.
The smaller ones on the top is the wide angle mirrors.
I think my mazda 2 had wide angle mirrors, the saabs just seem to show less than im used to
Having big fat mirrors to work with is nice.
also is there like a spider repellant for mirrors heh
they insist on making massive strong webs on my mirrors every night
I really just want a nice hooklift truck to work with.
have all car youtubers just become parents??
Both TheStraightPipes guys, Doug and Mat Watson have all become parents in like the last 6 months
Being stuck in your house for months on end does that to you.
its alright if im super patient with it
will hopefully get my new ones in tomorrow its just a couple nuts and bolts how hard can it beeee
if one of the bolts snap into the gearbox im going to mald
Due to 🦠
Literally just a MAN with a VW badge...
sexy stock cars

Sporty and elegant with dream proportions, this is is where driving dynamic and...
can I have this pleaseeeee
all those moving parts.. that seems very impractical. Especially when you consider what happens when say the steering wheel breaks in the down position. Plus I don't think they have self driving tech.
look , I just want it coz it looks real cool
I like the doors.
I like the disappearing steering wheel and the seating

I've watched both of those videos , but I like the audi more
i own 2 saabs a TURBO X and a 9-5 2.0T
The Turbo X is a pretty rare one.
there are 3 in my country and i have 1 of the 3
Would love to have a Turbo X SportCombi.
Wasn't there a VW with man badge?
ExCly what I was talking about
I started seeing them recently
Also
How tf you suppostled to drive trucks on those super narrow UK roads
You can work around something the size of the Crafter. But they are the largest thing you can drive on a normal B license.
I want to say that it's 2 meters wide. Give or take a notch.
Specs says 2,040 mm. So just over 2 meters without the mirrors.
So 2 trucks would have problem fitting
Also
This is how I need to hold the steering wheel to go straight
Maybe a bit exaggerated
Like 50% of current turn
Alegnment.
Every truck pulls to the right

Is fine.
fine till they get to the bend heh
That's their problem.
we now have about 200 signs in my town saying dont take the coal road
takes the coal road.
Wrll
I had a diversion trough some thing like that
A120 was closed
And there was that tiny roundabout that the truck that was going the other way could not fit
Alot of them either miss 200 signs here or think ill fit then they get to the bend
Yeah. That's a bit too narrow for two trucks.
Yeah. Fortunately there was only 1 truck on my way.
Or just a sign.
that too would work
thats the coastal road so its actually pretty much their widest option :^|
other ones are narrow single track
Some of them dont have passing places and a artic truck isnt going to go onto the sloped grass for you so have to reverse all the way back to a junction
videos of people in cars refusing to reverse and forcing truck drivers to reverse down them
thats a good reliable shitbox mate
Hey, tpms light on, 8 year old car, on oem rims, you think it needs new batteries? How much would it typically cost if it does?
the question is if you care
id rather just have a manual pressure sensor you stick on the stem
but you do you
Lol....
fuck I love it
Tesla brake pads after a salty winter?
not rich enough to have a tesla
Would you get one if you were rich enough?
What's weird is prices have shot back up to where they were a few years ago.
We're approaching peak again, but no one is moving back to hybrids.
Just come to Europe.
I paid over $7.50 a gallon for my premium fuel.
$100+ for a fill up.
My cheap gas isn't cheap anymore
The cheapest I've seen recently was 1.78€/litre for 98
Yeah. Mine was about there with my last filling.
Lpg for my car costed 39 eruocents per liter
Then there's some stations at 1.90€/litre
Now it costs 70-80 cents per liter
Fuel prices were much nicer a year and a half ago.
The price of 95 is much more tolerable but I'd rather give my car the good stuff
I remember when it was under €1.50 for 98. Which really was just last year...
So what is it? It's like 15% higher prices now?
The craziest thing is that's just under my gas price for premium but the mid tier is well under the price of my regular
yes
pReMiUm is over €2 at some places, one nearby is at €2.09
(9.3 USD/gallon in freedom units
)

My old rear brakes
They're very old indeed
That's like 6 month old photo anyways
Got new pads and rotors all way around
Was at work yesterday to turn my pretty much new front rotors
I drive sometimes to Emmerich, Where it is about €1,6 liter.
They were a bit warped
Or €1,3 liter for diesel
Imagine having that cheap gas
We're at 1.7-1.8€/l on 98 octane
Only 0.1mm out, but felt like shit while braking
Netherlands?
Nah, Finland
O man. I'm going to have fun driving tomorrow at 3 am in UK
Going to swap the Volvo to winter tires in 20°C weather
Eastern - October = summer 👀
Summer tyres were in dangerous condition lol, so we had to
Spotted this yesterday
Regrove it

That’s such a nice Volvo tho
C30 right ?
V40
Winter tires are on it now
No R-Design wheels, but I don't mind the looks tbh
2015 Volvo V40 Diesel with 3,2L/100km average (Source: OVI RDW)
Yeah not getting the 3.2L/100km
Time for you to book in MOT inspection
Yeah next Friday
It ends 5 oct
Another reason why we needed to change the tires (besides them being extremely dangerous lol)
Also yes 2015: 28-12-2015

MY 2016
The only car who did that was VW lupo 3l
Or the A2 3L
Uit Blik 14-1-2000.
This thing can get easily 4L/100km with good driving and the 16" wheels, with the 18" wheels and no attempt to driving ecological at all you can 5L/100km easy
The red one is exported, the silver one is still on the roads
Quite a big engine in the red one also, 1.7 SDI
But SDI so no turbocharger
We don’t have those models in Canada
I love Volvos idk why men

Yes Volvo's are Nice
My 83hp Corsa will beat that
At least they didn't disintegrate
Those were also the rear pads on a 2012 rav4
They just... Fell apart
Rust, fun
Expensive tho, they hold their value
Really depends on the model, engine and ofc sales
These V40's were quite popular for a period of time in our country as company cars, so they sold well. All those company car contracts (usually 4-5 years) end now, so there are quite a lot for sale, which reduces the sale price. However, the "bad ones" (like high mileage, low spec etc) often get exported, and the good ones like ours (popular/well equiped spec, low mileage) are being saved.
So for now they are relatively cheap as there are many, but from now on they don't really depreciate a lot anymore. Hell, we can probably sell if for more than what we bought it for
Especially this one, as it has a Volvo VEA diesel instead of the earlier models which had a PSA diesel (less power, less tuning potential and less reliable)
C30's are getting expensive again here, especially those with the 5-cyl
S40 wasn't popular here, the V50 was more common
Very timeless design tho
You wouldn't say it's design is already over 15 years old
getting an e30 320i soon. anyone had experience with them mechanically know anything i should know about them
its a BMW
+rep
Drooping headliners and burned out LCD thingies on the center console.
They wanted an American car, but without the America.
Finally installed a dashcam on my truck
Had to use a lot of foam and double-sided tape
you get to keep the same truck?
Nope
rip
Can't use my spare dashcam mount. This thing is permanent
Would need suction cup
Also. I had to drive 50 miles away from where I needed to get my trailer so I could get my covid test
das auto
I dropped one of mine off the other day to get a safety
MOT test?
similar yeah
I'm in Canada though
basically they just check that the vehicle isn't going to fall apart and all the safety devices work
I changed my steering wheel but it didn't throw an airbag code so it's going to pass inspection lol
My car didn't made it cuz my rear lights are tinted. Thanks Germany
I like germany now
Nah man
Some things regarding tuning are dumb af
Like I cannot drive open air filter legally
I understand banning tinting rear lights though
Yes me too. To a degree
I just hate when people can see my brake lights easily!
I have led aftermarket bulbs
So not an issue
Right one is mine with tinted rear lights
Lol led's would be illegal over here
why tho
Idk anything aftermarket with led's and it's like "yup you're not allowed to use those on the road"
thats weird
Because led's are too bright apparently or not the right colour temperature
oh that makes sense
They sell some led conversion kits for headlights here for example but any site/place that sells them MUST inform you that they are not road legal
has anybody used the nexar dashcams? i heard good things about them was thinking about buying one
we can use leds here for headlights
i think theres a brightness limit
but yeah
its the lightbars that are a no no
but headlights, especially sealed beam replacements with a nice sharp cutoff are pretty good
The law here I believe is that you can't put xenons or LEDs in housings that didn't come with them
Doesn't make sense since new cars come with them
Needs to be E marked
in india every car that is not stock is illegal
not even paint
who will see turbo tho
or any thing
this rule is dumb af
my 1.6 16v fiat sounds better with open shroom 😄 but germany says no
16v?
yes
i mean v16?
no
its 16v (valves)
oh
i am new to cars
so idk much
are the no of valves and cylinder in a fixed ratio
for my car its 16 valves for 4 cylinders
our car is - 16v i4 80 HP , 100nm , 995 kg
mine is 16v i4 103hp 145nm and 1225kg
what car is it
Fiat Stilo
yours is 1.6 right
yep
our old car was 1.6L 110 hp , 153nm , 1203 kg and it was in an accident and it was sold just for 700$
after repairing *
and our repairing cost was 700$
so i assume that it just dissappeared
No you can have 2 valves per cylinder (quite old tech), 4 valves per cylinder (usual), some Toyota engine had 20 valves per cylinder ... I'm not sure if you can cramp more than that tho
Wait whaaaat? I don't think that's right, 20v/cyl lol
2v = 1 intake 1 exhaust
4v = 2 intake 2 exhaust
Toyota has made some 20v 4-cyls back in thr day yes, so 5v/cyl (3 intake 2 exhaust). But that's very uncommon
Sort of
Rule of thumb is one intake and one exhaust minimum
2 valves per cylinder
2 valve isn't as common, 4 valve is common, and I think 5 valve is no longer a thing
That was 3 intake with 2 exhaust
As for cylinder counts. 2-12 cylinders in various shapes
5 valves per cylinder is kind of controversial.
In theory they provide great n/a power, but you get diminishing returns (in terms of airflow) and vvt is significantly harder to implement
Butter off just running 4 valves per cylinder with vvt
nah shit sherlock
6.2L N/A V8, 420hp 460lbft. Curb weight of 5993 lbs
For when a big suv is too small so you make it bigger
Toyota 4age silver top and black top 20v
Yes that's uncommon
Case in point: LT5
772hp from OHV, 2v/cyl engine
Who needs DOHC or more than 2 valves/cyl?
Who needs either of that?
Signed.
Wankel-gang.
To be fair. The future of ICE is Freevalve.
Wtf is a valve? Never heard of it
wtf is normal higher than small amounts oil consumption
Shit Honda and VAG owners say.
I might be taking the saab on track which is going to be bloody hilarious
body roll intensifies
me understeering into the gravel pit :^ (
highly unlikely that ill take out track day insurance so I could have my dear saab taken away from me by some clown, or myself
who am i kidding its written off in any case if structural damage happens
It's not higher than normal if it's intentional
Engine not "normal" either so the benchmark is pointless
damn yall are just ignoring 3 valve engines
Apart from Ford's 3 valves... who else did it?
oh right Honda's weird tech.
I think CVCC used a third valve of sorts
I mean honda did have 12v 4 cylinders lol
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CVCC I'm talking about this.
yeah
One of the craziest methods of bypassing a catalytic converter.
this is just a normal 12v 4 cylinder lol
1.5l
CVCC was 70s, this is a late 80s CRX
ah, I see.
In a few markets CVCC did stick around well into the 80s.
... or 1990 in the case of the Rover
That's a bit of an oof
New injectors. Just need to dial them into the ECU. To much soot 🤣
For the first time ever I heard the sound of our i10 , I thought it was a quiet car but when my dad floored it ,it reached 80kmph at just the second gear
And the weight isn't 995kg but 955kg
hyundai i10?
cant learn in a smart roadster
So BMW issues
depends how you treat it
i know someone who has had the same e30 for 30 years and almost 800k on the clock. it runs fine
Insert replaced parts list here
basically everything, but only when needed
Sad Subaru Impreza noises
Theseus Ship
I am going to be getting my first car in about a years time and because of New Zealand pushing for EV's, my only chance of having a V8 is probably having one as a first car. I have been looking at a lot of options but I have narrowed them down to these 4 potential candidates and I need opinions.
Option A) 2008 Lexus ISF
Option B) 2005 Mercedes Benz E 55 AMG SLN
Option C) 2010 Mercedes Benz E 550
Option D) 2008-10 Audi S5 4.2L V8
What do you guys think would be the best daily driver and also "drivers car"? I am leaning towards the ISF just because I think it looks the best, most reliable, good community, I am already familiar with the IS platform as my dad has had two in the past 5 years, and good fuel economy (I won't be able to pay too much for fuel as I am a student). Thoughts?
yea
lexus
evs are so sad
yeah theyre faster or whatever but its not the same
its like driving an appliance
my refrigerator has more character than a tesla
i like the older IS more
none of those have good fuel economy
that's not the point of having a v8
he said good fuel economy
muscle car
1970 dodge super bee
in NZ?
yes
how?
you know they're rhd right?
ffs all the amazing shit that's exclusive
get a falcon, a monaro, an rs200, a celica gt-4, toyota century
ffs don't get some boring fwd based audi with a great engine that breaks all the time
or a 70s muscle car
IS300 First Gen is the BEST IS period, who needs a V8 when you have a 1jz
if you want a lexus v8 find a first gen SC
Man what happened to that car. Since you cant watch them anymore and have gone paywall
If they were available in NZ look for a V8 Holden commodore
something way out of my budget
the isf gets 18mpg city and 23mpg highway
so not too bad
you are just a ev hater
its really bad
Personally I don't hate EVs but I will hate the mustang Mach e for calling itself a mustang when it's an SUV, same thing with the eclipse and evo
I also just think Tesla's themselves are over priced
nah
or maybe they are
but in india
we cant complain
its 8000000 rupees for the model 3
meanwhile its 4000000 rupees for US
I think they are a great daily
yes they are
I'm tempted to buy that 1k ev that donut did an episode on today
i like light cars , above 100hp and should be hatchback
40 mile range is enough for me to get my groceries but the 25mph makes it not really good for anything past that
waht do you mean
I'll see if I can find it

Don't deleeeet this is a master piece
how
so expensive
in New Zealand model 3's start at $66k nzd ($46,343 USD)
as well as that, you get a $8700 rebate from the government
lol refrigerator has the same sound to
Just hmmmmmmmmm
Not only a dead meme, but the upteenth repost on this server
its a classic meme
none of those is a good first car in any market
if you really want a V8 you're better off with an S4 than an S5, but even then fuel and maintenance costs will be high
you're better off getting something with an LS
maintenance costs are nothing then
Well if you never drove an automatic
Nobody ever showed you
And you don't know, then you'd appreciate it to have a video that shows you how to not have a 3rd pedal
First time my dad drove an automatic, he left foot braked
Rally driver in secret 👀
I haven't ever driven one since I don't think
Yeah for my dad it was also 1 street away from home in a calm town
My Dad made the mistake of telling me the brake was also the clutch
he meant 'when you stop you don't need to press the clutch'
but I thought it meant I had to have my foot on the brake to pull away
Yeah and for driving of releasing brake makes it pull away
Like you release the clutch to get going
Except completely in a different manner xD
TBH I just want an automatic
never driven one
but sick to death of changing gears in traffic
I don't really get the car-enthusiasts-love-manuals thing really
Im just used to it not that enthusiastic about having a manual maybe because i don't really get to drive autos that often so i don't have a reason to miss it
And yet less than 1% of new cars are manuals
For all their love, it doesn't reflect in the market
I mean, I think 1% being enthusiasts sounds about right
But it varies market to market etc
I just literally don't get it
like manual > CVT
and I get that DSGs/DCTs judder at lower speeds or whatever
but flappy paddles just look more fun to me
you can watch them, they put a 5.0 mustang engine in it with the turbo + a few other upgrades
i like ev commuter cars, like the bolt ev (once they fix the battery issue), the vw id.4, etc
ev sports cars are not the same
maybe if i drove a porsche taycan or tesla roadster i would change my mind
Id do an EV conversion, ive never driven an automatic
no experience of shitty 26 year old GM manual gearbox being resistant
let me in
What I would love to own is a 1st gen Honda Insight
that car is so strange
Cheap cars here are manual, and always have been
obviously newer cars are phasing out manuals, so that's becoming less true over time
but manuals are usually the base trims in a lot of cars
I would guess the majority of the cars on the road in the UK are manual
75% of UK sales were manual in 2020, and that's new cars
according to one stat.
According to another:
Last year for the first time, automatic cars outsold manuals, according to new-car sales statistics compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. A total of 915,812 automatics were purchased last year, or 56% of 1,631,064 cars sold. To be sure, because of the pandemic, overall sales were sluggish in 2020. But in 2019, when total sales hit 2,311,140, automatics accounted for 49% of them.
i think something like 5% of american car sales are manual
i think a lot of that is that the US has a lot of long, straight, flat roads so you dont really need to chose the "right gear" since you're just going a consistent speed with little stops
i live in a large metro area and most of the main roads i travel on are massive 4 lane roads with a speed limit of 40+
not a lot of windy roads
It's not something I've ever understood. I imagine there are a lot of factors, but now people drive what they're used to
modern automatics are way better on average than they used to be, which is why things are changing in the UK
(I would guess)
But with EVs not needing gearboxes (except in their most absurd guise) the manual is going to die a quick death I think
I've always thought it would hilarious to have an EV with a manual gear box and a clutch, but only a single forward gear
that is like ummm a fidget toy
lol
modern autos and modern manuals are on par for fuel economy
but if you really care about fuel economy get a hybrid car with a CVT
the lowest possible rpm and gear combo for what speed you want to go
maybe not a lot but it would affect your mpg
oh
5
oh ok
top speed is just 180kmph so ig its okish
That’s also when you’re banging the rev limiter in your top gear
yea lol
Imagine having enough power to bang the rev limiter in top gear
it does
I can only dream
Lol that's weird gearing then, that shouldn't happen with overdrive gears
i10 engine response is bad , transmission is bad
handling is good
and suspension
and mileage
about 44mpg highway
other than that its shit
suzuki swift is better
Fuel economy 😍
kmpl right
Nice, that's €2k/year in road tax
That's 16.9/29.3 mpg UK
Not that bad for the vehicle size
imagine having tax based on your vehicle and engine size 😏
My brothers tiny Volvo diesel is already €1300
The US does
i will pay the least
It's based on fuel type and weight here

their regulations just don't apply to 'commercial vehicles'
which are defined by size, not use
so it just made passenger cars bigger
because Murica
ye
In the Uk they've switched to having it by purchase price
but it's like a flat rate above 40k
and includes EVs
that makes sense
yea
(there's a bit for emissions, but cars got so low emissions they had to up it again)
We also have a tax included in the sale price ... Based on emissions
i play nfs to mod cars cuz irl i cant afford it
I just cry every time I see a nice car I'd love to drive
(which I define as accelerating to 60 in under 8 seconds and having a 500+L boot)
seems to help
ford focus i guess prbably maybe
To be fair great car for the price
if you fold the seats down in my family's car, you would have ~3500L of trunk space
ok with 12 seconds
Mine is 10.9 with a 320L boot
laughs in 4.5s (my car, not the big suv)

i wouldnt mind an 8 or 9s 0-60 as long as i can get on the highway without being a safety hazard
If you aren't afraid to rev it, it's fine
yea
14s 0-62, still can pass cars on the onramp
(horrible music, blame the radio station xD)
Exactly
And with fuel prices here, + initial car prices, + road tax, this was the best I could do as a first car
But I still have it after more than 5 years so apparently I'm still not sick of it
You got your moneys worth out of it lol
I need it for atleast one more year
After that we shall see
I kind of want a wagon
Like a Volvo V60, or staying with
the Insignia (basically the Buick Regal TourX without the raised ride height and cladding)
Today i did pass my driving exam! Yay

Another maniac on the road
I love pissing off my finnish friend with how easily I got my license
I had a special examinator on board
Driving, parking a little bit motorway and done
Theory was harder
Congrats :)
@vocal mural are you going to buy a car?
No fundings for it
I have free public transport anyway (weekdays)

Moving to Europe next year. Kind of excited not to have a car for a minute.
Will get busted as 3rd gen MR2 or motorcycle ass last car before I need to probably start consider car seats.
Dream is do 3.6 V-6 swap in the MR-S if it’s possible and I’m not sure it is.
People have done it for the 2nd gen but not third as far as I know
3rd is unloved because ugly, I like it because it’s ugly.
Welcome to 🇪🇺!
You may drive with your current driving license for 1 year before you need to change it.
That’s part of the appeal of getting a bike, but my dad wouldn’t even let me take my US drivers exam until he thought I could pass the UK one. “Perks” of an English father, but my ass could do a hill start without rolling back before I was 14.
bike as in motorcycle or bicycle
motorcycle
oh ok
idk about germany I haven't looked into it yet, but in the UK graduated licensing makes it way easier to get a license for a 250-450cc bike than a car
and quite frankly I'm too much of a psycho to put myself on anything else
You probably first need to get A1, which is max 125cc / 11kW, after that A2 (max 35kW) and after that you can get A (unlimited)
part of why it blows my mind people talking about wanting a V8 for their first car, I've driven REALLY powerful shit, like relatively new McLarens, turbocharged AMGS, and BMW M cars. And everything in between for my old job. I am relatively responsible but there is a thing that happens to a young person when they get behind the wheel of something super powerful, you become a dumbass really quick.
Depending on your age ofc, after 21 you can immediately get A iirc
And people get M3s without having ever done so much as a track day in a Miata
if you can't even take a car to 7/10s you are an IDIOT to buy it
New M3s I mean, everything up until about 2006 was pretty reasonable.
We can buy powerful cars as first cars, except the insurance will go

and actually the E92, or whatever the V8 M3 was, quite frankly that was 1000% better than any of the turbo ones to come after
not much torque you really had to rev that fucker
and that chassis was SO well balanced without any fucky electronic assistance you could just turn everything off and go sideways on the track and it was so easy to control
fucking loved that thing man, absolutely legendary, last good BMW ever, besides maybe the M2
Oof I got 3 quotes for insurance on an E92 M3 as a new driver: all around €400/month

E92 is that gens coupe yes, with the V8
yes that's so important because i go to the track everyday
every modern M car has been an expensive electronically expensive grandpa machine for over a decade now it's so sad
just exist for people to stand in front of for their instagram
technology marches on 🤷♂️
"yo look at how much I grinded here's a bunch of shitty hashtags, blah blah inspiration bullshit"
when it's a lease they're underwater on
tech has ruined cars man, at least as enthusiast machines
i disagree
enthusiast cars now are more powerful, better quality, ride better, handle better, do almost everything better than an enthusiast car from the 80s
at the cost of losing their soul
if "soul" is all the flaws and imperfections of old cars, then sure
Well I wouldnt say any car is figuratively perfect
The technology that was being brought up was more pointed at offloading the drivers flaws to the car
Enthusiast cars are not better than late 90s early 2000s enthusiast cars.
You’ve got the 86, the Miata, everything else is expensive bullshit.
Mechanically worse in every meaningful way because it’s too expensive to have competent people make things, so we have robots and slave wage people from Eastern Europe and Mexico, or worse, American Georgia, assembling everything. Mouthbreathers can’t screw shit together properly so we can’t have physical knobs and buttons anymore.
Drivers aids are stupid, if you don’t want to drive take a fucking train.
Modern cars are objectively better. Safety and convenience features, plus better power and emissions, etc etc etc
Not every car is built in places where the workers are underpaid or have terrible conditions
Robots are actually pretty good at assembly, and QC exists for a reason
People think old cars are better than new cars purely because new cars are boring.
New cars fall into the meta, so to speak. Almost every car on sale today fits a market where it will sell stupidly well even if its kinda shit
There are few enthusiast cars, and even the ones that do exist have some compromises that make them tolerable for the average idiot who thinks they want one.
Old cars are more daring, built during times of experimentation and when out there designs were the norm
A brand new Miata will wipe the floor when put against an 80s sports car. The suspension is better, the fuel injection and ECUs are better, etc etc.
But enthusiasts will generally prefer older cars in almost every situation. Because they are cheap, easier to modify, fix, and tinker with. But primarily because they have more character
What 80s sports car? An older Miata? It ain’t outrunning a Silvia. Plus Miata is such an outlier it hardly counts.
Look at the state of Toyota
The new “Supra” is a fucking tragedy
No MR2
An ND Miata could at least keep up with an S15 easy.
Need Subaru to help em build the 86
like I said, new cars fall into the meta
Its waaaaaay cheaper to partner with other companies and cut costs when you split R&D work
The new Supra is a legitimately fast and good car. Sure its a shame its got a BMW engine and they were too lazy to even change the door chimes, but you cannot deny its a good car
0-60 is a pretty useless metric tbh
who is drag racing their ND or S15
Cornering ability and track lap times matter more.
Right but how else are you gonna measure it?
Track times
Sure equal conditions should be easy to replicate
The fact that an ND is only 1 second slower to 60 proves that its likely just as capable on the track, if not more so
Ooh 30 years of progress to MATCH THE 90s
You also have to remember that many 80s sports cars had under 200hp, so an ND Miata will easily destroy them
I originally said 80s and you brought up 90s cars, fyi
I love my RX-7, and at its time was considered a fast car. Its 100hp was respectable and great. But its speed is laughable today, a god forsaken Ford Ecosport is faster than me.
Then you get into the rest of the car. The RX-7 has a solid axle and a watt's link that has binding issues causing snap oversteer. A Civic Type-R doesn't snap oversteer. A BRZ/86 don't snap oversteer, and also have IRS.
I never advocated for 80s cars, always said late 90s early 00s
fair
And most of your points well taken. Defending the new “Supra” though🤮
But going back to the S15 vs ND Miata argument, this isn't about 25-30 years of progress matching anything. This is a light roadster with sub 200hp keeping up and/or beating a car with over 60hp more and worse weight distribution
an NB or NA Miata would never be able to come close to an S15. The Miata has come far enough along to punch above its weight
"light" being more relative since cars have gotten stupidly heavy anymore
its a miracle to find a car that weighs under 3k lbs in many cases
tfw my 90s minivan was heavy for its time but is considered lightweight when looking at even mid size sedans in modern times
New Supra trounces the old one
And if we're pretending that mods are a relevant metric, the motor from BMW is extremely robust
I really like the new Supra
But are you as tall like Jeremy Clarkson

clarkson is a dick though 😄
One with the hedge
I swear a spider lives inside my mirror housing and comes out each night to build a new web
привет, я Брэди, ты кто?
Any of you got any car recommendations preferably around 25k and easier to mod?
Idk what were you talking about but supras don't look good
In our i10 manual it is clearly said not to revv it at high rpm for more than 2 minutes
Can anyone give me niche/random car facts about..any cars or a car in specific? Toyota's, Hondas, BMW, etc.
Genuine facts btw, I kinda need this for something.
cars are fast
bro you okay there? You've been doing... things since 8 hours
I'd recommend Big Car on youtube, he tells the stories of some cars and some of them are very interesting.
the Citroen 2cv begs to differ. Or "de lelijke eend" as it's called in the Netherlands, which translates to "The ugly duck".
lmao
2cv is fast if you're driving through a plowed field with a basket full of eggs on the passenger seat
Top gear?
Yeah I’m at -2 hp though 😔
perhaps, heard it said outwith that aswell though
new shitbox. who dis
thats what happens when a VW golf does crack
*Polo
I found mustang mach e
I've been spotting lots of new electric cars recently
I've now seen:
Q4 etron
Mustang Mach-E
Mercedes EQA
ID4
ID3
Skoda Enyaq iV
Hyundai Ionic 5
of the new ones
haven't seen the Kia EV6 yet
I don't even take note of EV's anymore.
I mean there are Teslas and Leafs everywhere, right
not a big deal.
But a huuuggee amount of new models have launched in the last 12 months
and as an EV nerd, it's always exciting to see one
You know. You think back and say "Man. The E39 M5 was a pretty fast car".
But hecking KIA is quicker than it.
T cab.
Or T series.
But yeah, they are funky looking.
seen one being used for an abnormal load
They are normally run for more special jobs these days. Since they aren't made anymore.
What car is that
Scion FRS
Oh cool
best m5 is m60
I don't like electric cars.
Top gear?
I like the idea of an electric car
but basically all of the executions are garbage at this stage
the V10 one
only like it because its got a v10 ofc
i suppose so
I think it’s E60
only if the reliability was as amazing as the sound of the V10😔
Tru
before and after i bought it
🤣
The current generation #ToyotaTundra is old. It was last redesigned in 2007, making the 2021 model the oldest truck on the market. For 2022, @Toyota USA has finally given the #TundraTRDPRO the redesign it needs to stay competitive. It's new from the ground up with an electrified engine option in the form of the #TundraiForceMAX. Production of th...
christ could probably hide a car infront of you from the drivers viewpoint
easiest way to boost fuel economy is not to make them so fuckin big heh
No one is going to want to buy em if so.
cringe consumer
Also it's going to be embarrassing if the new Tundra doesn't get better fuel economy than the Taco. At least the hybrid i T H R U S T MAAAAAX
I really hope EV conversions take off
OHHH DAMN THATS HOT
Thx bby
ev conversions will be cool, just need to cost less that 20k or whatever
cant wait to ev convert a fiat multipla
guess the car
I mean the batteries alone can cost as much as a engine swap
I'm afraid to turn it off now
Low voltage?
I mean. If the alternator is dead. Then you're going to be stranded either way.
Kinda funny that Linus didn't recognise the fiat multipla in the setup roast video
i kinda like this
O:
And nah my phone still charging in the truck so it's the battery luckily @civic spoke
I actually don't hate the regular Multipla. Maybe it's because in the US we didn't get them. That slammed Multipla looks pretty good.
man iv wanted a Mx5 since i was a kid 😩

👍
better
