Model S generic is... fast. Sure. Not as fast as F1.

#

Tesla fanboys are honestly funny

eager grove
#

They are

#

but this cat just said the Model S -- literally the fastest production vehicle on the planet -- is slow

#

Like, he's not wrong that it's heavy. And on a lot of tracks a really fast Porsche/McClaren/Ferrari or whatever is going to beat the model S plaid because of that.

#

I've seen the Model 3 Performance beat some cars round a race track purely because it goes so hard out of corners, the other cars are obviously flatter and better round a corner, but the sheer straight line speed

#

So the Plaid is going to set records at some tracks despite its weight for sure

It's a Jeep.

wheat wadi
#

i love this style jeep

#

the engine is a give or take

#

as this one has 120k miles on it

#

it was rebuilt at 130

#

it has 250k on the odometer

#

i rebuilt the engine myself

#

this engine has a problem with the oil filter that it too constrictive so the push rod doesnt get enough oil and it causes it to shoot a hole in the side of the block

#

so any time i see of these jeeps used

#

i always ask what type of filter is on it

if its oem walk the fuck away

civic girder
#

pretty sure one of my friends has like 3 4L I6 cherokees, all of them have at least one new piston and one of them only has one original piston left

#

may not be 4L, but they are definitely I6s and cherokees. Whatever engine those have, they are apparently notorious for the pistons cracking

wheat wadi
#

Well idk but this is a common issue

Always put a high flow filter

I have a pack of gum and 4 bucks and that's saved for the 10mm socket replacement

fathom socket
#

Oh shit, both aren't happening.

wheat wadi

It costed me 2 grand and 6 months for the rebuilt engine

#

I procrastinated building it

fathom socket

I already drove eastman mad with LS swapping. I suppose I should lay off for the night.

wheat wadi

But the one thing I will never like about new cars is

New cars are so jam packed

Engine bay space FTW

wheat wadi

wheat wadi
#

Yeah like I said a rebuilt one but idk if it can handle a turb

#

There's just alot of space under the hood it would loom good

civic girder
#

You can turbo anything. Whether or not it's a good idea depends on the motor's design, the supporting mods and setup, and your goals/expectations

#

Turbo EJs are reliable, but only if you curb your expectations and don't push things too far

The same can be said about a lot of things.

Mostly diesels feel faster due to the torque curve, which is basically flat over a very wide rev-range, which makes it feel like it can pull forever

But nowadays with turbochargers on petrol cars you get the same characteristics

However, then you get the "but diesels still have more torque than a petrol car" discussion... true, but to compensate for the lower amount of RPM you have to use longer gears

China's State Administration for Market Regulation said that in certain models the cruise control can be mistakenly switched on when drivers attempt to change gears or if they brush the gear selector by accident, which has the potential of causing the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly.

That's an oof to say in the least.

#

I know it makes it sort of redundant, but if I was gonna get a diesel I'd definitely get a V6

vagrant dune
#

well it is a biturbo V6

eager grove
#

is it the 40TDI? or the 45?

vagrant dune
#

those came in 2018 iirc, in 2016 it was just the 3.0tdi biturbo

eager grove
#

it still came in HP variants though

vagrant dune
#

this was 272hp stock, ecu tuned to 332

eager grove
#

Gotcha, that would be a 50TDI now, that's the really fun one :p

vagrant dune
#

yeah it really can launch surprisingly well

#

stock was 5.6s, I'd say currently it's under 5

eager grove
#

Yeah it's not surprising, you've tuned it to be a 60TDI (not sure if they actually make those)

vagrant dune
#

I could have easily gotten 400hp with just the ecu tune but that would have affected the reliability so decided to stick to 332

#

best part is that I got the tune completely free because the shop "owed" me 500€ for a few parts I had laying around in my garage that they needed

#

which i had given them for free

eager grove
#

#

What sorta mpg do you get out of it?

vagrant dune

eager grove
#

Yeah if you're going to do a lot of miles it's ideal. Quiet, efficient, practical

vagrant dune
#

I'm likely upgrading this to an etron gt in the future tho btw

eager grove
#

A lot less practical in terms of passenger/cargo space

#

but those t hings are dope

vagrant dune
#

I rarely need the cargo space

#

and when I do we have a huge ass trailer

#

literally bigger than my car

eager grove
#

I have to say though, as the world's biggest electric car fangirl

#

with the kind of miles you're doing, I don't think an electric car is the right call for you

vagrant dune
vagrant dune
eager grove
#

Ok, I have no idea how you could possibly have driven 18000miles in 5 months and not done long distances

vagrant dune
#

longest drive I do "often" is to Helsinki which is only 100km away

charred depot
#

My saab has an avg yearly mileage of 4000 miles, :^|

eager grove
#

So how are you driving 120miles a day?

vagrant dune
#

I can easily go 200km a day here honestly

eager grove
#

Mate, according to your numbers you average 200km a day

vagrant dune
#

there are a ton of small fun roads around my city where there are 0 cars where we can just pretty much race

eager grove
#

and you do that all day every day? for five months?

vagrant dune
#

and yeah its pretty accurate

#

nah but the days I do it can go upwards to like 400km

#

and then ofc going to work and back is 30km x2

#

which is often 50km there and back because I usually take the smaller curvier roads, just more fun to drive

#

trust me, I drive a lot lol

eager grove
#

Only you know your habits. But most electric cars are recommended to be kept, generally, at 80%

#

and an etron won't do 400km on one charge

vagrant dune
#

doesnt need to, just that on a good day thats the entire days driving

eager grove
#

and you're basically averaging doing 80-20% every day, which is going to absolutely annhilate a battery

vagrant dune
#

and I could just charge it from like 20-80% in 15 mins

eager grove
#

Yep, at a fast charger you can

#

You do you, but that's a £100k car that I really don't think is ready for 65000km a year

vagrant dune
#

iirc the chargers at my local store are 200kW

eager grove
#

Yeah, but supercharging batteries is bad for them if you do it too often

vagrant dune
#

hmm

eager grove
#

with an electric car you really want to be keeping it at 80-90% and mostly charging it on a level 2 charger at home

vagrant dune
#

I honestly want an electric purely because of how much I spend on diesel lol

eager grove
#

using superchargers mostly for road trips every once in a while

#

I mean you'll also be spending a fortune on your electricity bill, but it will be less than diesel

#

but you'll probably lose €50k in value on your car in four years, which is probably more expensive than the diesel you'd buy

vagrant dune
#

sounds like the optimal option is that I keep the A6 and buy a second car

eager grove
#

Of course, no one knows how etron GTs are going to depreciate-we know Teslas don't depreciate fast, but other electric cars do, but GTs are desirable, so who knows. But a four year old one with 250k km on the clock is definitely not going to be the most desirable thing ever

#

Not sure - unless you buy a daily driver that's way more efficient than the A6 for your commute/boring driving

vagrant dune
#

it sucks balls that I cant afford an rs7 or rs6 here, they are stupid expensive. in germany or usa you can get them for around 100k, here a new rs6 is over 250k

eager grove
#

and again, if you spend money on a car to save you money on fuel, that's pretty hard to do

#

because you have to buy, insure, tax and put fuel into the car

#

to save you the difference in diesel

vagrant dune
#

here's the only new rs6 for sale here atm

eager grove
#

to be honest, my best guess is to keep the car you've got. Can't imagine there are cars that do a better job of being fuel efficient, fast, fun and practical than your A6

vagrant dune
#

I mean, I quess

eager grove
#

Like if you want to get a 2 seater sports car to race in, or a Skoda Octavia to commute in, then you obviously can

#

but if your goal is to end up with the most amount of money left over, say in four years, then keeping the one car is probably the optimal solution

Gasoline can mix with oil if your piston rings are no longer sealing with the bores and the gasoline is un-burnt. Typically do to metal expansion on a cold engine the rings are not completely sealing the combustion camber from the crankcase. I would start with checking spark plugs to see if any cylinder may not burning the mixture. Look for broken tips or plugs that are unusually black compared to the others. You can do a compression test too and see how the different cylinders compare if they are not close to the same you may have a problem. You probably want to do an oil change. I believe gasoline and oil will not mix however they do not have the same lubricating properties. Your oil level gauge / (Dip stick) if a little high may show a need to do an oil change soon too.

lunar leaf
#

idk every automaker seems to be able to get it right in the concept phase. Trouble is a lot of traditional automakers would base electric concepts on existing platforms to save cost, so you'd always wind up with the grill being an issue.

#

etron GT has a great stance, but even it has the grill issue to some extent. Looks WAY better in some different color-ways though.

charred depot
#

Why is the rotor surface peeling off like this, I didnt realise they had 2 seperate materials

lunar leaf
#

I mean, the Corolla HB is probably the best looking Toyota in 20 years unless you're fond or their trucks, but it's an appliance. The alfa, for better or worse, is more like a toy, or if you wanna be real pretentious it's an art piece.

dense shard

The HB is an absolute blast to drive.

lunar leaf

lunar leaf

Can't speak to that one

dense shard
#

The new generation feels very blah

#

And Honda didn't impress either. Dated interior and less than brilliant engine and clutch.

lunar leaf
#

I've been pretty disenfranchised with Toyotas since like 2005

#

With the exception of the Toyobaru twins and the Tacoma.

#

love both of those

#

So the Civic you're comparing came out in 2015 the corolla was 2018 or 19, the new Civic that's out now has a better interior.

#

I mean they're both good, old civic and corolla HB.

#

But god, everything Toyota used to make had a little magic. Like I had a Matrix XRS at one point, should have been such a boring shit car, that 2zz engine and the manual throttle body.

#

I hate the engine in the current Toyota it sucks driving stick without manual throttle body man. The revs just HANG and don't drop it's not just Toyota either it's like all modern manuals.

stoic ledge

stoic ledge

Tbh most things can stay on, if you drive normally they won't bother you

Lane Keep is nice for long road trips.

stoic ledge

I think its pretty shit for something like that to begin seizing up at 6 years old and completely seize by 8 years

#

bad design

stoic ledge
charred depot
#

only reason we are fixing it is for inspections

#

leaving it in gear is all fine until you forget the the car doesent have a handbrake and roll into the house.

#

still not as bad as my neighbours across the road old corolla which had a handbrake failure and deleted a wall we had down the side of our house.

#

wall: obliterated
corolla: tiny scratch which came out

#

lol wtf just buy a porsche lol

#

I'm talking about the grill design.

lunar leaf
#

Dude, it’s fine if YOU don’t like the way the Alfa looks, almost everyone disagrees with you…

dense shard
#

Okay and?

lunar leaf
#

You have weird taste man.

dense shard
#

Want me to just go with the flow and agree with everyone else?

#

I find the Alfa grill to be undersized on an otherwise blobby looking body. I don't see the chiseled looks everyone talks about.

#

The shape compared to say... Audi looks truncated and squished.

#

It does not fill me with joy.

lunar leaf
#

The shape looks athletic, it’s clearly rear wheel drive, shit looks like it’s about to pounce. It’s not some frumpy fwd can forward bullshit.

#

Cab-forward

dense shard
#

How does a car look like it's about to pounce exactly?

#

And a lot of FWD cars have a "cab forward design"

lunar leaf
#

Yeah

#

And most are ugly

#

The rear wheels are further apart, front closer, like a cat that’s about to take off. That’s the rwd effect man. Or it should be. Mazda breaks their back to emulate that shit on fwd designs.

dense shard
#

The wheels honestly look undersized.

#

Stylistically I have a lot of issues with it. I do not like it.

#

Of which it shares a lot of issues with modern cars.

#

I do like the green tho

fathom socket
#

for me personally the Gulia/whatever its called is probably the best looking currently produced saloon car

#

not that its competition is particularly up to much

civic girder
#

Guilia's competition is just as overpriced

#

and just as unreliable

#

But saying its the best looking 4 door sedan you can buy rn is a pretty hot take

fathom socket
#

what do you think looks better

#

only thing that might beat it in the compact saloon sector for me is the S60

civic girder
#

The newer Lexus and Toyota 4 door sedans definitely look the best in that category. I am a little biased though

indigo coral
#

doesn't look as good as the IS or GS, but I think the Giulia looks nice

civic girder
#

The new Hyundai's look pretty good too

indigo coral
#

The new G70 is surprisingly good looking

civic girder
#

Yea

indigo coral
#

The renders were ehhhh but Hyundai pulled it off

#

especially the wagon

civic girder
#

The sonata, I think? That has the weird DRLs that run up the body line actually looks pretty neat

#

May not be the sonata, but it's definitely a new Hyundai that has it

indigo coral
#

Yeah it's the sonata

#

It's def unconventional but it's cool, I quite like it

civic girder
#

Same

#

@civic girder yo hows ur rx-7

#

sorry if i pinged the wrong person lmao

civic girder
#

in pieces rn

static canopy
#

o

#

heck

#

what happenmed

dense shard
#

Wouldn't say no to either.

civic girder
#

idk if I've seen any K5s up close

dense shard
#

If you've seen a Sonata... eh either way.

#

Biggest reasons I like the Korean twins is the fact they also remembered to style the sides and rear.

#

So many cars are totally anonymous from the side or rear without an emblem.

#

The elantra for example? You are not mistaking it for anything but a Hyundai.

#

Meanwhile best people could say about the BMW 8 series was, "It looks like an accord coupe from this angle"

civic girder
#

I can't even tell BMWs apart

dense shard
#

They lost that rear pillar swoop that made them sort of unique.

dense shard
#

That's excellent.

civic girder
#

Yea, its really coming around

#

I won't be able to get every nook and cranny perfect, but still

#

I was also planning to paint the 12A Mazda lettering blue to match the air cleaner

#

which should be a bit more visible with the vacuum system modifications I'm doing

dense shard
#

I'm just waiting on a house to come my way before I do anything more with the Jeep or 'rolla.

fathom socket
#

innit this a computer server

#

why is there a car channel 😭

dense shard
#

Because cars are technology.

fathom socket
#

fair enough

civic girder
#

and some of us like both cars and computers

dense shard
#

Also like... 4 people on LTT staff are car nerds.

fathom socket
#

imagine

dense shard
#

They should make more car videos so they can up the production quality even more.

civic girder
#

uh

dense shard
#

I am not surprised tbh. I live in a complex right now.

civic girder
#

bro

dense shard
#

I'm not really allowed to do any work on my car.

#

Also no room tbh.

civic girder
#

Yea I feel that

dense shard
#

But ramps are on my wish list.

#

... and whatever tools I can buy from Harbor Fright.

#

Or was it Harbor Fraught?

civic girder
#

no its Harbor Freight

dense shard
#

They wish.
