#

everyone under my college was like that

civic girder
#

basically, slap "DM" on the end of an abbreviation for a country and it refers to the "domestic" cars of that nation

fathom socket
#

put's fart can on standard civic

#

and JDM stickers everywhere

civic girder
#

the irony is they're not actually JDM cars

fathom socket
#

this is why I'm asking

#

wtf is JDM

#

because everyone is calling non JDM cars JDM

civic girder
#

Its because people try to be cool, but don't realize how dumb they look

fathom socket
#

idk if this would be legal

civic girder
#

Its effectively the same thing as putting "american muscle" stickers on a Ford Ka

fathom socket
#

but maybe straight pipe it instead of fart can

civic girder
#

the Ka was never available in the US, and was entirely designed and produced overseas

#

so calling it an american car is stupid

fathom socket
#

KA is just fiesta

#

at least the old one

civic girder
#

we didn't get the Fiesta for a really long time

fathom socket
#

but you got Focus

civic girder
#

we've only had it for maybe 2 or 3 gens

stoic ledge
civic girder
#

Yea, but the Focus is larger

fathom socket
#

wasn't focus designed by European division tho?

stoic ledge
#

Yes

civic girder
#

more irony

#

people consider the Focus a domestic car here KEKW

stoic ledge
#

But the US skipped like the 2nd gen and used an "improved" 1st gen as second gen

civic girder
#

improved my ass

fathom socket
#

what do you mean by "improved"

civic girder
#

the "2nd gen" was a pile of shit

stoic ledge
#

That's why I said "improved" KEKW

#

It was updated

#

In a bad way

fathom socket
#

like

#

because I don't really know

civic girder
#

a new body and interior

#

but the same chassis and engine

#

the interior was so bad

fathom socket
#

at least the engine is reliable

#

well

civic girder
#

maybe the european ones

fathom socket
#

ye

stoic ledge
#

You can see itś the old interior but with just some later US stuff added to it

civic girder
#

my aunt had a "2nd" gen Focus hatch

fathom socket
#

it looks generic

civic girder
#

it had a different interior than that

stoic ledge
#

And later models had an even different inteiro

#

yeah

civic girder
#

p sure it actually had Ford Sync

#

ah

#

yea

stoic ledge
civic girder
#

btw, Ford Sync is shit

stoic ledge
#

But that's still the Focus Mk1 underneath

civic girder
#

yea that looks more like what my aunt had, but its been years

#

she has a 3rd gen Prius now, I think

#

3rd gen Prius are inferior in every way to all the other gens

stoic ledge
#

Same model year European interior:

stoic ledge
fathom socket
#

idk how about you

#

but I don't like the mk2 interior

civic girder
#

the 3rd gens look worse, the center stack is hideous and oversized

stoic ledge
#

I don't dislike it...

civic girder
#

they have larger gas motors and don't get any better fuel economy

stoic ledge
#

Yeah mk3 was worse, especially pre-facelift

civic girder
#

and the Prius V, as well as the Prius C, are both trash

fathom socket
#

but the mk2 wagon looks better from the rear

stoic ledge
#

Just get the convertible

#

🙃

civic girder
#

the XW30 was part of a dark era for Toyota

fathom socket
#

by better I mean you can tell what car it is

civic girder
#

most of Toyota's early 2010s cars were cheap

stoic ledge
#

No, XV30 is zhe best Prius

civic girder
#

I will always disagree with that

stoic ledge
#

I will always disagree with you that the other Prius's (Priii? were better

#

😛

civic girder
#

the XW30 is ugly in every way, and while it makes more power its not actually faster, and the fuel economy is not better

stoic ledge
#

No it's the best looking Prius

civic girder
#

imo the XW30 interior is a regression in design. It looks like something from 2000, not something from 2010.

#

The XW20 before it had a much more modern interior design

stoic ledge
#

It had a more regular car like interior

#

Which I liked more

civic girder
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

split chasm
#

The Prius to me is just ugly in general, but not too ugly

#

I like the voltswagons

stoic ledge
#

Anyway, if you want(ed) a Prius... just get an Auris/Corolla Hybrid 🙃

#

These sold quite well here

civic girder
#

yea, we only just got the Corolla hybrid

split chasm
#

I can’t help but see a Mars bar

#

It doesn’t look bad, just like a chocolate bar

civic girder
#

what?

stoic ledge
#

Discord won't let me edit my message

#

Made a type

#

Typo*

#

I meant design/bodystyle

#

WIth the current Corolla, we get the hatch, sedan and wagon as hybrid

#

hatch and wagon even as high power hybrid, 2.0

split chasm
#

I want to get a Ford Escape or a beetle

#

I don’t mind the Mini Cooper either

civic girder
#

those are.............interesting......choices

split chasm
#

I like the look of them, stands out around here with the trashbinned ricer cars resold to teenagers around here or truck man number 10 million

#

They’re nothing amazing looking, just a car

#

One of my favorite suvs is the Yukon xl but unless I’m living in it I don’t think I’ll get it for 70 grand

#

There’s also a nice looking bronco that got imported here

#

Heard one of those guys speeding at 9pm at night yesterday in a road with no lighting, with wild animals and a neighborhood. Sounds like some exploding rust in the distance rather than a sports car

if you bought a car and have the title but not transferred because the dmv is backed up for like 3 months but a proof of sale could they still try and scam and report it stolen or something like that or would you be good because you have a proof of sale showing that you paid for the vehicle

fathom socket
#

Idk

#

But here in my country before you could do this

#

But now you get fines for not changing car title to be your own

civic girder
#

if you have a title signed by the previous owner and stamped with a notary, if they tried to report it stolen the cops wouldn't be able to arrest you or anything like that

#

its not stolen if its notarized and signed over to your name

I got F1TV this year, and so far I love it! As a Canadian, it's the only way I can watch without commercials. I haven't seen it during a live race yet, but the quality thus far is excellent. Due to timezone/on-call-work I frequently miss the live running anyway, so on-demand is fucking great for me.

yeah i'd heard so many marmite opinions on DCT but having had it, I love it

Tho I prefer manual, but that must be lovely on long trips

silver ibex

it's not even long trips, it's cutting about town where it's lovely

#

and, stopping at traffic lights, I don't have to knock it into neutral to let go of the bars

viral matrix
#

Idk, I guess I'd like it anyways, but I just love shifting myself

silver ibex
#

yeah, i feel you, this isn't my first bike so it was a change

#

my theory was that you can get a foot shifter for the dct, so if i hated it I could just fit that

on my old bike I mostly changed gear clutchlessly anyway

I do that too

silver ibex

fringe lake

Don't you get tired after a while? All of the gear is also heavy, is it not?

#
  • rain + bad road conditions
silver ibex
#

i mean you're sat down so it's not that heavy, but it's the adventure and experience, i tend to do long trips two up with the wife on the back, in groups with friends, we have sena intercom systems etc so we can all talk

#

lots of europe is pretty to ride through

fringe lake
#

Ah, I guess that makes sense

#

I'd still pick a car anyday in my country though 🤣

silver ibex

i used to be in to cars, years ago, but since getting a bike, all cars I can ever afford seem slow and boring

fringe lake

Here it's the opposite

#

People drive cars 10x the price of their bikes

silver ibex
#

it's not just that, my 170hp 1200cc engine, would be "ok" in a car, to equal the acceleration of my motorbike, I need like a 1000hp engine in a car

silver ibex
#

my car is a renault zoe 50kWh

fringe lake
#

There was a 2jz GTE swapped E30 selling in my country a week ago or so

silver ibex
#

fully on board the EV train here, cars are for getting from a-b as cheaply, efficiently, and comfortably as possible

fringe lake
#

only $25000 including shipping

fringe lake
silver ibex
#

i'm in the UK, all cars are tiny

fringe lake
#

I might be thinking about their other budget offering

silver ibex
#

zoe is EV only

fringe lake
#

costs less than $10k US and outputs under 80 HP

silver ibex
#

so if you're not thinking of an EV you're not thinking of a zoe

#

nah, zoes aren't that cheap

fringe lake
#

Yeah, it's not a zoe

#

Seems a bit heavy for the range no?

#

only does 200 KM

#

3500 LBs

silver ibex
#

waaay more than 200km

#

i've had 200 miles out of it and i don't drive it sedately

fringe lake
#

Oh, I was thinking of the original one

#

not the new one

silver ibex
#

the older 22kwh ones were much shorter range

#

aah yeah

fringe lake
#

Regardless, my issue with EVs is charging

silver ibex
#

i mostly charge it for free at work. i have a home charger, but that obviously costs me money

fringe lake
#

There is no feasible way (for me at least) to get an EV which will cost less long term

#

Gas is cheap enough in my country (nationally backed provider) to the point of everything running on it

#
  • the fact that in many towns there are either 0 charging points or 1 of them in the town center
silver ibex
#

for me, it's via salary sacrifice, so I end up with a £176/m net deduction from my wages, but i didn't have to put any kind of deposit down, work pay for maintenance and servicing down to tyres, work pay for insurance, i can charge at work for free, or at home for cheap, christ, my old VW passat cost me more just in tax, fuel, and insurance, let alone the cost of the car

fringe lake
#

Hmm, fair point

#

And by charging points I mean the little box on the left

silver ibex
#

we rarely drive more than 200 miles in a day, but when we do, all the motorway service stations in the UK have rapid chargers

fringe lake
silver ibex
#

yeah you're meaning rapids

fringe lake
#

i think the charger doesn't even do high speed

silver ibex
#

the rapids are a mess of 1809472 different networks that all need their own phone app and all charge extortionate rates, but i rarely even use them

fringe lake
#

oh no we don't have those

silver ibex
#

the one in the photo is a CCS connector so is a DC rapid charger, in the UK that would mean at least 50kW, but some I believe can be as low as 25kW

fringe lake
silver ibex
#

my home charger is 7.2kW

fringe lake
#

well

silver ibex
#

but i plug it in overnight etc

fringe lake
#

home chargers just usually plug into the wall at 240 right

silver ibex
#

yeah

#

240v, 32A

fringe lake
#

idk, personally it's cheaper to get a gas car here

silver ibex
#

where is here?

fringe lake
#

The most "accessible" PHEV here is over $70000

fringe lake
silver ibex
#

oh possibly, idk

#

US tends to have crazy low petrol prices

fringe lake
#

yeah most PHEVs and EVs are incredibly expensive

silver ibex
#

so most americans also say there isn't much init

#

for me, it's definitely way cheaper, and tbh, EVs are nice to drive, really smooth etc

fringe lake
silver ibex
#

i would love a Tesla but you know, infinite money

#

I don't think anything is below 95 Ron here, but it's about £1.27 a litre

fringe lake
#

our 98 RON is barely 0.51 to the litre

#

"Turbo" fuel backed by Lamborghini lol

silver ibex
#

electricity, if i plug in at home overnight, is about 4p/kWh, I get about 4 miles per kWh

fringe lake
#

there used to be 102 or something but it was very terribly non economical

silver ibex
#

if i plug in at work, well it's free

fringe lake
#

yeah, it usually has to do with the network

#

That, and the per kWh price compared to per Litre price

silver ibex
silver ibex
#

like i say, mine is salary sacrifice, so i pay £176/m net out of my wages for it, I didn't pay anything upfront

fringe lake
#

Oh

silver ibex
#

but list price new is I think about £30,000

fringe lake
#

yeah that's a bit too much

#

Here, you can buy a house with that much

#

Not the best one, but it's a house that you personally own alright

silver ibex
#

in the old car I paid ~£22/m road tax, £25/m insurance, £120/m fuel, I have none of those costs with this and haven't even gotten on to other costs like maintenance and MOT (inspection) etc

fringe lake
#

you can also buy one of these

silver ibex
#

EVs are expensive to buy outright

fringe lake
#

Here? You pay taxes, insurance, and gas, That's about it

#

And they are not expensive

silver ibex

The last lap battle was incredible

As a LH44 fan I was on the edge of my seat the last few laps 😂

south jewel
# gray kestrel Yeah for sure

there was a 3-way early on with vet-alo-sai (I forget the order both in and out of the exchange) that was fucking great to watch!

The late fight is one of the few times in the last five years that I've really felt on the edge of my seat as it ends.

I'm not a 44 fan, but have no problem with this win! What a great race

gray kestrel
#

Also Tsunoda. Man what a driver, what a personality

#

He did an amazing debut race

south jewel

YES I have fan love for him already.!

gray kestrel

his pass on fernando was really good to watch

south jewel

It could be a great season. I have my personal likes, a great battle at the top. exciting rookie, and a hapless spinner to play the villain

gray kestrel

Although, given the way the merc improved from testing to bahrain, I think they could have a better car there

south jewel

I am cheering for Mazespin to not actually complete an F1 lap 😄

gray kestrel
gray kestrel
#

I'm not a 44 fan, but have no problem with this win! What a great race
I'm so glad that someone has this outlook

#

Honestly half of the fans still don't appreciate Lewis as a driver. Sure, don't be his fan, but you can't argue about the fact that he's one of the best

south jewel
#

I actually like the Aston martin team... it all shows the difference between mazespin and stroll... at leat stroll is a legit driver... he is interchangable with a third of the bottom of the grid

gray kestrel
#

I rate Stroll higher than quite a few ppl

#

He was really good in his junior years

south jewel
#

I kind of hate Lewis... but that doesn't mean I don't respect that he really is amazing

#

Same, I think of Stroll as a mid pack kind of guy.

gray kestrel
#

Which isn't even related

south jewel
#

Yep. It's easy to player-hate Lewis... but I want to see him beat legitimately... this season could really be one of the greats.

I don't actually like MAx either, he caused a lot of shit on his way into the sport. The two head to head is a great match

gray kestrel
#

I don't actually like MAx either, he caused a lot of shit on his way into the sport.
Oh, then who's your favourite front-pack driver?

south jewel
#

Fuck. I've been trying to decide.

gray kestrel
#

As I see it you have to choose between Valterri and Sergio rn

#

For strictly "front-pack"

south jewel
#

I'm very "Formula 1.5" this year

gray kestrel
#

To be fair, the midfield has got closer than say 2014-2016

south jewel
#

I would like to see a surprise Riccardo .. or Lando

gray kestrel
#

Daniel hasn't got on top of the McLaren yet

#

I suspect he will with time, he took a little while to get used to the Renault too

south jewel
#

Yea, I think Ric sis a dark horse... not for a championchip, but for some surprising wins

gray kestrel
#

Do you see Lando as a champion?

#

IMO, he's very very good

#

But championship....

south jewel
#

Eventually... he really has that feel to me

#

Not this year of course

gray kestrel
#

I don't see him beating Russell/Max/Leclerc

#

No of course not this year

#

But honestly IMO George is the best of that lot

south jewel
#

I love Russell. Leclerc is the guy I think will never quite have the right car at the right time. Max,...maybe this year?

gray kestrel
#

I still think Lewis will win this year, but I am a fan, so...

#

But recalling 2017/18

#

Ferrari was quicker initially

#

In fact there are a lot of parallels to 17

#

The Mercedes was not great that year

south jewel
#

It's part of what I like about F1, I don't only cheer of one single thing. I really enjoy the whole experience

gray kestrel
#

I seriously believe that this will be a 2017-esque season

#

But the battle will go slightly further

south jewel
#

I very much hope so

gray kestrel
#

I rate Max/RBR higher than Seb/Ferrari

#

Especially given Ferrari strategy

south jewel
gray kestrel
#

Yep, I think Max's year will come after new regulations though

south jewel
#

This year will be wierd. I really don't know if Merc can hold on the whole way

gray kestrel
#

Right now, Mercedes as a team, not engineering-wise alone, but as a whole unit, they're very hard to beat

#

Merc will get a lot better post break

#

Just in a week they made the W12 so much better

south jewel
#

Yep... so wit a coup[le weeks and see what the high-rake cars pull off

gray kestrel
#

And we don't know how the RB will be in the shorter tracks

south jewel
#

I (selfishly) think Canada will be one of the most entertainling short tracks this year!

#

I dished out for F1 TV this year, enjoying it so far, but I've yet to test it in real-time (was called ror work right as this race began)

gray kestrel

south jewel
#

So far, so good... but I will wait to see how it does live. no problems with on-demand

gray kestrel
#

Also, what do you think about the F2 grid this year?

I have no knowledge of F2. That is a whole new ball of fun entertainment for me to watch with F1 TV!
