Hopefully
A hot Corolla has been confirmed.
We should get some news on it this year considering the hatchback is due for a mid-cycle refresh.
As for 4x4s. The more I look, the more I feel that the WJ and ZJ Grand Cherokees are considered the "good ones."
And those are pushing 20 years on the low end. 30 on the high end.
And Wranglers aren't cheap or particularly pleasant to drive.
i0
elon tesla
2jz corolla 😳 😳 😳 😳
i gotta go diagnose which disease my e36 got bc it aint starting
i hope its something minor and i dont have to put a whole new engine in it
Sounds like you need an LS swap.
Time to scrap it and buy a Toyota Corolla lmao
Just buy a Jeep bro.
yeah and 2jz swap it
Inline 6, same thing.
no
torq
No, Jeeps are objectively terrible
off-road
budget
hmmm something doesn't seem right here.......
It has solid axles front and back. 4x4, and a damn good engine.
And unlike a 4Runner doesn't cost an arm and two legs.
my dad got a 2 door ~90' pajero for pretty cheap
I hear 4.0s have head gasket problems
a couple years back
Not really?
Not really.
That issue was found in only a couple of years.
The rest of the 30 year history is pretty solid.
Either way, Chryslers rust like nothing else
This one is mostly rust free.
you got damn lucky then
The only Chrysler cars I've seen that are pre 2005, at most, literally came from states where rust is rare
This is early early daimler.
my friend's Dodge Neon is a California car
every other Neon around here is rusted to shit, or its a clapped and somewhat rusty SRT4
People who buy em don't usually take care of em.
Jeeps tend to last better because the owners partially give a crap.
... oh good I wasn't censored.
Never seen a Jeep older than 10 or so years that isn't clapped
Jeeps younger than 10 years are either ultra shitty ones or are modified and never seen dirt or mud in its life
There's no inbetweens here
I'd consider the newer grand cherokees to be shitty lol
what competition
Exploder, whatever GM is making this month.
And literally anything Europe has coughed up.
aren't cherokees smaller than explorers
If I'm gonna have to fix my car post warranty I'd rather it be American.
Grand Cherokee.
that sounds awful
All third row seats are awful unless you get a van.
I can see the cross shopping, but still convinced explorers are larger
iirc the Edge is about the same size
and the Edge is kinda shitty, but still significantly better than the EcoShit
And the HR-V
At least the Rav4, CR-V, and CH-R are halfway decent
The GC competes with the Explorer.
Wheelbase is between the Edge and Explorer.
Gen 5 GC is a good bit longer wheelbase wise.
odd considering the size difference, but I suppose people looking at either aren't exactly looking for nice cars
I've heard the GC is a damn nice car interior wise.
They tend to hit above their weight.
And it turns out that despite everything, FCA's infotainment is actually usable.
If its anything like my mom's Pacifica, its probably relatively comfortable, but the controls are going to be extremely bad
It's nothing like the Pacifica.
do they have the exceptionally awful shift knob
What, the rotary knob?
yes
I'll take it over literally anything the Germans have done the past decade.
Especially BMW.
Specifically BMW.
... and Honda actually.
Having seen some early 2010 BMWs, the newer Chrysler rotary shift knobs are just as bad
Push button shifters are kinda... blah.
both are exceedingly shit.
Nah, push buttons are ok
more responsive and accurate than FCA's rotary knobs
you aim to hit D from P
hit literally anything else because there's no responsiveness
I've used the FCA rotary shifter a few times in a RAM. I honestly never had any issues with it.
It's nice and clicky.
Not in my experience
Sounds like a lemon.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Never had an issue.
Turn one way to get to drive, turn the other way to get to park.
It's my biggest complaint with the pacifica
3 clicks to go forward.
more like 3 might've been clicks but you can't tell
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I don't feel Jeep is that bad considering the competition.
My 01 seems to be holding up well despite a torn front seat.
Direct domestic competition, sure
Name me one foreign competitor.
Rav4
no
CR-V

The RAV4 and CR-V will crap their clutches 5 miles off road.
The only actual competition comes in the form of a 4Runner. Which is radically more expensive.
Name me one Jeep product from the last 10 years that won't break going off road
And I'm not blowing 8 grand on a clapped out 4Runner.
I have a product from 20 years ago.
there you go
ok?
I imagine the Wrangler can manage just fine off road.
As can the GC.
Compass and Renegade aren't off roaders.
Just all weather crossovers like the CR-V.
Not really. There's many many examples of new Jeeps that break on their first off-road venture
idk
A Gladiator fording a river and then the differential seizes on the highway trip home doesn't sound like driving poorly to me
And of course, FCA says off-roading voids the warranty
That could happen to any car from what I've heard.
If you get water into the differential, bad things happen.
Unless it's a Honda apparently. Gas in oil is fine and to be expected.
But they're working on fixing that... despite it working fine. dunno
so there's something fishy going on if your off-road capable vehicle, that plenty of people are buying to off-road, cannot be covered under warranty if you go off-rooad
Yes, but normally off-road cars don't get water in the differential on their first bout in the mud
So apparently the guy went mudding, and somehow managed to get mud into the alternator.
That's not a fault of the car. That's driver error.
In response, this Jeep Gladiator owner decided to take their truck to the dealership from which they bought it. Upon giving it a second look, the only item that needed replacing was the alternator. The second dealership charged a small deductible for the repair. Additionally, the dealership reportedly confirmed the valid status of the truck’s warranty.
Is it? Last I checked newer jeeps have the alternator mounted on the bottom of the engine with little to no sheilding
And it turns out the other dealership still accepted the warranty.
It's like taking your Mustang out on the track and cooking the clutch.
I doubt Ford would honor that warranty.
As confirmed by a Chrysler Canada spokesperson: "Please be advised that driving a trail rated Jeep off-road would not in itself 'invalidate' the warranty, however, it is important for the customer to understand that warranty coverage applies to factory defects only. Damage or failures attributed to any other source are the customer's responsibility."
I'd say FCA is in a similar position to Nissan, personally. They still live because the average consumer doesn't know any better and they're cheap
Oh sure they can improve.
Off-road vehicles are arguably a smaller niche than performance cars
But fact remains that I had only a few choices.
Of which a WJ GC remained my best, and frankly only bet.
No, I'm not trying to dispute that at all
Pathfinders, Rodeos, and 4Runners are all... uhhhhhhhh
I'm just commenting on Jeeps within the last 10 or so years
Myth, urban legend, and a bad joke.
Last ten years of Jeep frankly hasn't put them in a worse spot than the Explorer and I swear I have no clue what GM makes in that size catagory.
GM is a mystery to me as well lmao
Like I can't even begin to make fun of GM, because I have no earthly clue where to direct my... anything.
The Cruze is a thing ig
But the Explorer was either a FWD momwagon, and the new one had a very very rough start.
oh the Cruze...
well GM didn't get a class action against em like Ford did.
That's true
so, hey. Kudos.
And honestly Honda had a huge stumble with the previous gen Civic as well.
The Sonic/Bolt exist as well
GM would prefer you not bring that up at the dinner table.
Well I wouldn't believe that looking at the Koreans.
Dart was a refresh away from being actually good.
Korean cars are cheap, disposable, and the warranties are incredibly enticing
Were cheap and disposable.
The new K5 is sweet.
So is the Sonata if you're into that shape.
I haven't paid much attention
oh man the Japanese need to watch their backs.
My focus is primarily on Toyota and Mazda, but that's where my loyalties lie
Sedan market is shrinking, and competition is hot hot hot.
Yea, korean cars are getting really nice these days tho
Toyota's Camry is... alright. They still offer a V6.
Honda's gimmick is a tiny turbo or a larger engine that's still only a 2 liter.
The Camry has never been anything special. It exists, they don't die, and blend in
God the tiny Honda turbos aren't great
Honda has the most to lose here.
Particularly in the Accord. They're ok in the Civic
True
Lol
You wouldn't catch me owning a Honda made after 2002 so eh
Yea, it's a bit yikes
And it's not just a bit of blow by.
People are noticing wwaaaaaayyyyyy too much fluid in their crank case. Scary amounts.
Ah, reminds me of the 7th gen Corolla
Except the blow-by goes the other direction
You know you've got a problem when your 4 banger burns more oil than an abused rotary
Toyota has somehow managed to escape the worst of the fallouts with their engines.
Last gen Corollas have vacuum pump issues.
It seems like every toyota motor ever has looming possibilities of head gasket failure
Oh that's easy to explain.
At this point I've written off all head gasket failures as poor maintenance leading to overheating.
"oh this car is crap cause the engine seized"
yes aunt karen, because you never changed the oil
I mean yea, that's typically how most problems develop
Modern engines don't do overheating, at all.
Cause they're tiny
And aluminum doesn't like heat.
Also true
Jeep's 4.7 V8 had the same issue. Aluminum heads and iron block.
High tech for an American engine.
It was actually fairly great.
Till you overheated it.
And here's a fun fact I learned. The 4 speed in the higher trim GCs is actually a 6 speed.
People told me to be wary of head gaskets on the Previa, but tbh I don't really see it as much of a problem.
So 2 years in. Daimler allowed Jeep to program in a 5th gear. For some reason the final gear is used as 2nd gear, but only for downshifts.
The bigger worry is the transmission
So WJ Grand Cheorkees have two second gears.
It's easy to overheat the Previa trans
Interesting
I plan to add an aux transmission cooler
Yes. Next time you get into an argument with a Jeep person. Flex on them with this excellent fact.
It's okay if you hurt their feelings. We'll just park on a curb to flex.
Tbh, I personally find Jeep culture extremely revolting
It's part of why I dislike jeeps so much
I haven't noticed anything. Then again nothing can be worse than r/cars.
But I suppose coal rolling is much much worse
I should go back there to get banned for getting a Jeep.
Lmao
"you should have gotten a 4Runner"
Turns out those V8 immortal UZs aren't that great.
You wouldn't have if you saw what I did.
So the exhaust manifold cracks in the 4Runner applications.
And it's not an issue you can fix without spending a lot of money.
Timing belt needs replacement.
Not my fault you live in washington
Classic 90s Toyota
I thought that's where you lived, but in any case, 4 Runners around here are halfway decent
I've seen a few.
They're either north of 350k.
Or are in very poor condition.
And of course 4+ grand in every instance.
Not an amount I want to put into what will be a winter project beater.
Your unique situation I suppose
It was worse in Alabama.
Personally $4k for a 350k mile 4 runner isn't horrible if it's late 90s
Turns out the 2WD 4Runners add a few grand to the price.
Those era 4Runners are known to have rust issues and apparently head gaskets are a common problem.
But I'm not scared of mileage in a Toyota
I'm not particularly scared of mileage in an old Jeep.
260k in and well... not bad tbh.
Wouldn't surprise me if they rust. I've seen some rotted Previas on the internet
And again, seems like literally every old Toyota engine has looming headgaskets
I have no means or patience to fix that.
And I'm not paying an extra grand on top of 5 to get that fixed.
If I was in the market I probably would. But I'd consider myself a special case
I was on a budget.
I didn't trust a single Toyota out there to last me 8 years.
I trust the Jeep to do at least 3.
Both the 4Runners I looked at were cursed. First one had been through 5 accidents. 2 of which deployed airbags. Second 4Runner was a 240k V8 that was backed into something and on its second engine.
I have unwavering faith in Toyota lol.
Yea damn, the 4 Runners by you sound like shit. Your area must kinda suck for that market
People know what they got, no lowballers.
Here I could probably get a clapped wrangler for $300 and it'd die on its first trail lmao
That's why you add a zero, and get to the second trail.
Tho I'd be surprised you managed to get a 300 dollar wrangler moving under it's own power.
Problem is I can't see myself putting any.more than that into a chrysler
The only thing with a more idioticly high tax than a Toyota product is a Wrangler of any vintage.
While I've pumped far more than common sense says I should into my $280 Corolla
And I stand on the edge of a cliff, unsure if the motor is toast or something else is broken
I shouldn't look at FB marketplace after buying the Jeep.
I'll only be filled with regret.
I get filled with guilt and regret most of the time. See nice Toyotas for good prices and unable to give them a nice home
Occasionally I see something I cannot refuse though
My neighbor has a 4Runner, its her third one over the last like 30 years. She loves them.
see Corolla and Previa
My car has a mere 25% more mileage on it.
She's got an 08 rn I think
Yea, SUVs and large trucks are not my area of interest
She had an accord for a while as an interim car that we almost bought from her, but I ended up getting my RX instead
There are a freakish amount of Ford Escapes on sale.
The 2000s escapes are terrible cars
Also a Tundra is a bad value no matter how you look at it.
run like hell
I wonder why
Escape has a hidden meaning in the name
not-so-hidden*
I don't have to imagine. I can go to a dealership and drive a new one.
Once you get one you search for every avenue of escape
The new ones aren't too bad
They're not great at all.
What did you expect from the factory shitbox manufacturer
doors weigh nothing and are hollow af, the whole interior is cheap hard plastic, and they're slowwwwww
I don't need speed.
dangerously slow
Mazda was damn near the only thing keeping Ford alive
I just need everyone else to fear me.
makes my RX seem speedy
Couldn't you get those escapes with 4 bangwrs
Yea, you say this like it's a surprise lmao
Practically everything with a ford emblem at the time was a shitbox from the factory
I frankly cannot fathom why someone would buy one of those escapes over something like an RX350 from 2007 or smth like that
My mom had a Five Hundred and it was solid
Just about the only things that weren't were trucks and crown vics
the Five Hundred did well until it got rear ended so hard the frame bent in the middle
not the fault of the car
I hear the five hundreds were exceedingly sketchy
big ass heavy cadillac at 60mph into a stopped car
wat?
it was a great car
kinda slow, but a good car nonetheless
my mom had the 2007 Five Hundred Limited
I've been the same way with my old cars

why, pray tell, would one buy the Ford Escape?
The Prius has only ever had issues caused by me. Except the fuel guage that is inconsistent and always inaccurate. No idea why, have yet to try and diagnose
like a blown engine
Again, you search for every avenue of escape
Lol
Part of the reason that I
lexus is that its not expensive as hell to maintain like a bmw or audi or smth
cause its a toyota
meanwhile my brother's lexus
isn't that cause he keeps running into shit
$235 for a wing mirror
Yes
Lol
The passenger side mirror suddenly started having issues staying attached
My grandpa's 07 RX 350 gets surprisingly decent fuel economy
Pretty sus
I drove it ~100 miles the other day just to use up the gas before it gets ancient and whatnot, pulled 25mpg which isn't bad for a 300hp car that's heavy af lol
But I got $50 for replacing it, and reimbursed for the $235 for the mirror
Nice
I kinda want to tell him to fix his own car when he next breaks it lol
He has told me he wants to get a mini cooper
oh a Mini Cooper is gonna be great.
And part of me is like "how are you going to care for and maintain a mini of you can't even take care of a lexus"
For his mechanic.
if you can't maintain a Lexus, stay far far far away from german cars
Yep lol.
Can't wait to tell him I cba to fix a german car and to go deal with his own self inflicted mess. "should've bought something reliable and easy to fix"
depending on how new it is you might not be able to fix it
stupid dealer programming shit
... usually when I say that someone jumps in to defend Tesla.
But tbh, I wonder if he's actually going to try to get into cars
Has my Jeep ownership scared the Tesla owners away?
If he wants to buy a Mini and learn to fix it, more power to him
Minis aren't great cars to work on.
but if he expects it to just work like a Lexus does, he's in for a rude awakening
He has expressed zero interest in trying to learn when I offer
"hey you want to help me do an oil change on your car?"
"No I have homework"
like shit man I've got one of the least reliable Lexus models ever made, and I've only had general old-car work to do
Over 3 years I can only imagine how much of a mess a 22 year old BMW would be
(glances at my friend's X3)
I remember when I brought home the previa he said "why'd you buy an ugly ass van"
thing's been in the shop more than its been in her driveway
Oof
Previa is not ugly
its quirky

I was secretly extremely pissed
Well 22 year old X5s aren't bad now.
But X5s today in 22 years wi... they won't exist.
I just don't think that people will find German cars worth keeping on the road.
Same
American or Japanese cars... perhaps.
There's only one thing that you can argue was not typical maintenance, and that was replacing front drivers side brake caliper
A lot of old american and japanese cars may stay on the road out of cheapness
oh yeah. I might have to replace my calipers.
Everything else (spark plugs, valve cover gasket, alignment, etc) is expected
Imagine needing new calipers
Only 1 was flaky but I replaced both because I don't mess with brakes
It wasn't even expensive because yay toyota parts
pads, rotors, and calipers was only around 200$
I say as I prepare my wallet for potentially eye watering bills for solid axle repairs
oh I don't need new calipers, but it's an upgrade I might consider.
I especially don't f**k with brakes because we have a ton of hills here
tbh I was surprised how easy a brake job was
Wait till you do drum brakes the first time
and last

Why would I ever have drum brakes
Even my old car has 4 wheel discs
I wish I could find the windowsticker for my car, I want to confirm for sure that it actually has the rare limited slip option
Not all of us have top trim shitboxes
My grandpa says it does, and it feels like it does, but idk for sure
Literally all 4 of my cars have rear drum
You can probably request a build sheet from Toyota.
My GC has rear discs... and drum parking brake.
I know it is because it doesn't work.
At this point drum brakes are a part of the pain that comes with owning project cars
On Lexus forums, they said the way to tell is if you punch it in the snow and the rear end wags back and forth then hooks up
which is exactly what mine does
Any maintenance to be done to either thing I own is going to a shop.
No means or patience to do my own work right now.
I wanna get some eatons for the WJ.
The car zipped right up a steep hill to my grandparents in a foot of snow
Really quite impressive imo
Fancy e-lockers.
My mom tried once and slid right back down like 1/5th of the way up, and she's got fresh tires while mine are old
the drum brakes on my car last the life of it providing you dont do too many handbrake turns
The Prius careened into a ditch lmfao
I highly doubt that tbh
no really
tbh given how depreciation is going, I might end up being able to buy an LC 500 before I can buy a GS F
LC 500 is depreciating like a brick
GS F isn't
theres mazda 2's at over 160k miles, shoes still not worn
GS F is tracking like IS F
even at 100k they are barely worn
That scares me
the back of the car has like 0 weight on it
Sounds like the rear brakes are absolutely useless and not setup correctly
GS F and LC 500 both start around 100k, but a 2016 GS F is still well over 50k, while a 2019 LC 500 is already down to 60k or even less sometimes
LC is depreciating way faster than GS
theres just no traction on the rear during braking for anything stronger to be useful
they are literally just there to keep it going in a straight line
Yet your income is still no closer 😛
It will once I'm out of uni
:p
I want to get one before I turn 30, idk if that'll pan out though
I'll have to get one hell of a job
the braking redundancy whatever on the mazda 2 is diagonal
but it's theoretically possible
The goal I've set myself is to have a fully paid off house, and max out retirement accounts every year before I entertain the notion of buying a fancy car.
That's going to be next to impossible in a decade when you haven't even started
You're going to have to get extremely lucky and start with a high pay and stability
Thankfully I won't have any student debt, which makes stuff easier
From my perspective it'd be more realistic to either max the accounts or pay off the house
We'll see how things go, but I will absolutely not be buying a fancy car until I have both of those goals met. It would be completely reckless to do otherwise.
There's no plane in which a 30k car is necessary
me thinking about buying a brand new car for a daily in a couple years
I live in a good job market, with relatively high salaries, so I feel like those goals are attainable, if difficult
Problem with aiming for a new car is parking
I also expect to be buying at least two more shitboxes before then
I desire Sienna, and would like a Camry
Took me a year to get a job.
Like lets say I get my degree, graduate university debt free, and start into a relatively decent job. Median salaries in the city are upwards of 100k, if I lived out in the area I do rn it would be feasible to get a decent starter house for 300-400k. Living alone with minimal expenses, I could have that paid off relatively quickly.
My looong term goal is to import a basic Toyota
That's fair, but I'm hopeful. I live in an active job market, going to a uni that has lots of job recruiters coming through
so I'm hoping I can get a job relatively quickly.
Don't get your hopes too high
Just cause pay is good doesn't mean the job is good, and vice versa
oh lots of job recruiters is good.
My university is well regarded and well connected with industry around here.
I didn't have that luxury post Japan.
I like my job, even though pay is a little shitty
But I don't plan on a family of any capacity any time soon, so the pay is enough to satisfy my expensive hobbies.
I know that "a good university" doesn't really matter in terms of getting a job, but it does help when you're attending school in the same city as tons of employers who are looking to recruit
But I seriously need to double down on saving so I can buy a nice house to upgrade my shitbox storage capacity
and fwiw i have a relatively respectable savings built
First step is to move.out to rental house tho
not enough to do much with, but a decent start
I need to start budgeting. Big time.
I'm not too worried.
I'm not worried about going under or anything. I'm just trying to plan for expansion and to allow myself room to pursue what gives me enjoyment
One savings I can apply immediately is no cell phone bill
I 4D-chess-ed my way into making it so there's no benefit for my parents to kick me off their plan
Thanks T-Mobile
Lol
I could move and take on all the bills for services I use. But it would make doing hobby stuff much harder at my current income
I expect my parents won't kick me off cell plan or change the Netflix/hulu passwords any time soon tho
On our t-mobile plan we're paying for 3 lines, but get 5 free and 20% off the 3 paid ones
Mainly the only things I leach off of tbh
plus 3 free phones and free netflix
Other than food and utilities/rent
My only bills, besides car insurance, is vrv and spotify lel
vrv?
Oh yea amazon.prime I leech off of hard
Anime streaming service
o
I can't wait until tmo upgrades backhaul on these towers
easily 1gbps
I still have yet to crest 1gbps and I really want to lol
still deciding on the second car i want to get to learn on
nothing over £1k as ill probably time the engine wrong or some shit and grenade it
thinking e46 as its easy going for parts and has lots to do
I want a challenge
Oh it'll be hard mode alright
There's a reason my friend has done nothing to it yet
It's either extremely hard or stupidly expensive
No in-between
Ok, I'm going to bed now
good noite
I'll stick to the WJ being my project.
this is just bullying lol
Well mine survived 9 years without scuffing
was looking at the history of this well covered car for sale plate
I dont get why people hide plates on for sale posts anyway
Like its just code for "the MOT history is shitty at best"
try buying cars from like.. mazda plazas anyway
you'll sometimes even get warranty on old cars that way
im looking at £600 shitboxes
could do better than that
im intentionally not
yawn 🙂
?
not much lol
i already have a perfect daily driver, looking at trash to learn on
fair enough, maybe an old audi
likely going to be a butchered E46 with the 2.2 I6 or smaller
insurance is ech above that
not bad
look at my 500 euro shite box
I got those rims from junkyard for 30 euros
needed something for da winter
id buy it from you if it were closer and the wheel was on the correct side
thats not a shitbox 😄
why not?
per definition my car is a shitbox 😄 yours is truly usable
here, have a zoombox
My car is a coffin on wheels
At least in certain scenarios
On highway winds likes to blow me to the other lane
Is that a polo?
spin-off polo
i want to buy a car but i dont have enough money for the car i want
whatcar dot com
Seat Ibiza.. based on Polo and Golf parts
One of these days I'm gonna go to the house with a truck that had been sitting for years and knock on the door and ask to look at it
It is an old seafoam green dodge pickup
Late 60s early 70s
Haven't seen it move ever
I want to offer to buy it for $500
Is that Carlisle
nah, t-bird SC, 90's
Channel name =cars
Content = plane
Me=Wut?
Spanish Kogashiwa
The song is Crazy for Love by Dusty.
The driver in question is Luis Climent in an Opel Corsa A during the Rally Principe de Asturias in 1990.
Rally power move.
its a porsche carerra 4 with the optional aero kit
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Really. This channel is all about stuff that can move themselves.
the lancia delta integrale HF was quite an interesting car, it came with a torsen AWD while being a hatchback
even some of the hottest hatches of today come with crappy haldex AWD systems
mostly %90 front based, so yeah..
other cars that use the torsen are VAG group vehicles like the audi's of today, A4 quattro and the bigger boys.
it's the same basic principle but in an updated form.
"4x4 full-time (quattro 5gen, all-wheel drive permanent; torsen T-3 center differential 40/60 (70/30-15/85 automatically distributed), Electronic Differential Locks EDL front and rear applying brakes on spinning wheels)"
Has a motor wheels and moves, just a specialized car
Yeah. A plane is really just a weird car that's able to fly.
They taxi all the time, if you think about it.
I like taxiing around
Sometimes I overcorrect since even on the ground you steer with the rudder
And the breaks
Each wheels breaks are individually controlled
and a hummingbird is basically an LS engine with propellers
aka a kit helicopter..
based off the skorsky russian
That Cessna has a carburetor
plane engines sometimes differ from car motors tho
"A plane is really just a weird car thats able to fly" i think i need write down these quotes
Sometimes you gotta pump the throttle
boat engines are also interesting
supercharged big diesels and stuff
on speedboats
Honda makes some decent engines.
most asian engines are bulletproof compared to modern audi, mercedes etc.
The big difference between car engines, and boat engines is the fact that they are mounted vertical.
that depends tho
Never knew that
you can find boats of any form
ranging from your typical chevy V8 to different kinds of stuff
that's not the only way.
That's how the engines are on boats.
sometimes the engine is mounted the other way
basically put in horizontally down to the center bottom
then you have the propellers on the back doing the job
just like a rear wheel driven car
Actually a bit crazy how much power you can get from boat engines.
it's also a lot of weight even if it's carbonfiber
you're basically fighting against the water as well
that's why you can't get as fast as cars even with some 1000 HP.
but boats are in a different league all together than cars to be real
Imagine having 2,400 hp's worth in outboarders. On a single boat...
you can live in a boat, whereas you need a caravan to do the same on ground
Much easier to cool engines on boats.
also things get really juicy after certain knots down water
it's not like the quattro where it hugs up the road tight to no end.
It's just so ridiculous with how much engine you just slap on a boat.
yeah but most people in where i live don't do it
and people build speedboats all day here
think life safety 🙂
#CenterConsolesOnly #GoBoldy #V12Verado
Here is our official first look at the incredible new Mercury V-12 Verado 600 at an exclusive event held at Lake X. Beyond the incredible power, this outboard performs smoothly and silently, even considering the large workload pushing some seriously massive boats around. It's just as quiet as their V8 3...
looks nice but a bit too big, ima watch it
Sizable engine...
that's indeed a bit too large for smaller boats
I mean, it is a V12 with 7.6 liter.
yeh, physically it looks massive
i wouldn't put that on something smaller than 10-15m
Oh. You can also do something Mike Finnegan did.
finnegans are top dumb
11.7 liter big block V8 with twin turbo for a speed boat.
i prefer keeping things sensible and classy
ain't gonna die down a stupid boat lol.
Yeah, same.
heh.
can someone explain me how does oil turn in to black water?
Thinking about the Cleeter video?
what video?
Ahh, just a recent video from Cleetus McFarland. Where they blew up one of their engines. And the oil was super thin when they checked it.
it's like water
how does that even happen
Not sure.
Could be that it got too hot or something.
the conrod snapped and basically it was a 3 cylinder diesel
it stil ran when this happened
"ran"
yo i got a 76 chevorlet stingray
we pulled over and didn't start
Cool
I’m not the biggest corvette fan
But I know some who own em
I need to replace the catalytic converter in my 1992 Ford Taurus. I'm looking at new ones on Rock Auto, and they are available for about $260, however it is an "EPA/Federal Compliant" one that also says that it is "Not legal for sale or use in California or Colorado". The one that is legal in California and Colorado costs $390. What are the restrictions on the use (or registration) of my car in those two states if I get the cheaper catalytic converter? Are the requirements looser since the car is as old as it is? Also, even the one that is available as an OEM replacement is apparently "not legal for sale or use in CA or CO". I currently live in Maryland but do not want my car to be impossible to register in California, as there is the small chance I may move there
no clue tbh.
Dunno if your item would count as aftermarket or OE.
I would probably go ahead and maybe send and email to the Cali DOT. Don't mention you are replacing the cat as it really isn't relevant at this point.
Just ask if you'll need to replace the catalytic converter in order to register your car.
Okay
Rockauto cats aren't as good as the OE ones, as they are much cheaper. Its not guaranteed the car will pass emissions. The "For sale or use in California" ones are going to be better than the others, and may pass emissions
yeah because apparently the original cat isnt CARB compliant either according to what I read
The one I am looking at is AP EMISSIONS 642358 model
I'm taking a loose approach to the Cali laws, but "aftermarket" is specifically mentioned. You could potentially be fine running a federal cat, but your mileage may vary.
Or move to a state without emissions.
Yes. Very cost effective, I know.
I don't currently live in CA and the cat is EPA compliant so good in MD where I am, but if possible I don't want it to be impossible to register the thing in CA if I have to
That's a question that's difficult to answer tbh.
I would contact the CA DOT and ask.
I will
California tends to be over zealous on laws sometimes, but I don't recall anyone complaining about getting new emissions equipment when bringing an outside car in.
Is driving the car at interstate speeds with a semi blocked catalytic converter harmful for the engine? might postpone the replacement a bit if it won't harm the engine
ah 💩 then
If a car was ordered with special specifications on color text and trim, would you consider it 1/1?
Depends on the car.
if it is an older car you could just do a cat delete (pending local regulations)
Federally a no no. And I believe MD does emissions testing.
Ahh, here in MI they don't do emissions tests so cat deletes are more common
That's still illegal.
(or getting your cat stolen is more common haha)
People have gotten real good at it, and battery powered sawzalls have made it too easy. One of my jobs got struck and six people had them stolen within 20/30 min.
Isn't that supposedly pretty slow?
I've been hearing a minute per car if the guy is good.
🤷♂️
Worst part is Facebok is pretty complicit in all this.
i am not the one doing it so i do not keep up on the metrics haha
No way in hell are the "catalytic converters from 100 dollars" legal in any way.
Especially if the picture of said business is a white van filled with obviously sawed off cats.
I mean if the cats failed in my car, there's no way in hell id replace them lol
Would cost more than the value of my car
had to take a backbox off a junkyard car before using a oversized hacksaw, was not fun
Old tires, that are in need of replacing on mine.
205/55R16 is what I have. I want to go up to at least 225/45R17
changing the width of mine technically means declaring to insurance
I don't think so on mine? I forget.
bimmer wagons are magical, if I could trade my e92 for an e91 I'd do it in a heartbeat
spark plug as oil drain plug
oil can't normally get hot enough to turn to whatever you think of
the melting point of it is around 250C
on our A4 2.0 TFSI quattro B8, we roll with it at 70C to some 100C in hotter days
however, some cars BURN oil
that's likely how it happened.
my car burns like 0.5 liter of oil for like 2000 km
yeah the oil issue was huge on the audis
they fixed it after a while, but some cars still ended up with black exhausts
the tips of the exhausts usually tell the story on like 2012 cars
i mean one oil to an another matters, like good castrol
but it can't change the problem on these cars
Why the thicker oil when cold?
i switched it in summer
Ahh. I guess.
You could really just run 5W30 year round.
cold starts are awful for most vehicles during harsh winters
yeah but basically I lost most of the oil on highway
Then you'd probably want 5W40 instead. Not really sure.
because stupid oil cap blew off
Something that's thicker while warmed up.
take it to the service
well you're going to end up with worse problems if you can't have it fixed
that's not much money either, compared to the entire block re-build on audi
better save some and do it
might as well sell the car after the fix
dunno how happy you're with it though.
fair yeah
IDK of it's the issue when I hit a large pothole that I didn't see
sounds bad
because the control arm broke in half
might be a cheaper fix tho, since it's an old car
i see pedals and stuff for those sold for like cheap
the problems are worse on your wallet when it's a more modern vehicle.. generally
generally now I'm without money
think we paid a good grand for the 120k service a while ago
dad still can't change tires
it's those crappy conti stuff that age fast
out of cash.
i know a guy with a tyre machine but he doesent have a modern balencer
he says its good enough for his cars though
i'm more about the money side of the stuff
I've been lucky that my ford didn't have any serious breakdown yet
changing is not an issue as we have dealers like, 1 to 1.5 km close to us.
we're planning to put on eagle F1s, can't go wrong with those as long as weather is above 7C
rain performance of the asymmetrical treads are solid from all i read
and the tires last long so yeh
i read even the new contipremiumcontacts have issues with aging
might as well stay away from their tires unless it's the TS860, that seems to be a baller winter tire.
the civic we have gets the cheapest part worn tyres on offer
doesent do enough miles anymore its sort of just a spare car
my car isn't worth much
fits the civic too, heh
its never had an alignment in our ownership
most part s are super cheap even new
but gosh
why old honda civic parts are so expensive
JDM
what kinda parts?
like stock exhaust
stock exhaust isn't a must, you can just rip it out and do a full catback.
i mean it doesn't have to be rice
our civics exhaust has remained solid, my car (a mazda) which is half the age rusted out
if you know what you're doing, you can get a custom exhaust 1000 times better than stock.
it's a common practice done on some infiniti vehicles
have to declare to insurance
like say the G37 or anything with VQ37 is loud
so you put in a switchable exhaust
reduce the noise, get a better deep sound while at it.
my car would be on slight lowering springs etc but insurance is too nippy to have that on my main car
here in turkey it passes unless it's really old and full-on crap
yeah it's the same here, but they don't care a lot
you can just get a camaro with 1000 HP noisy as a jet
im not messing around with insurance here where the consequence is getting banned for atleast a year
during the corona though it would be an easy way to get copped
think of it this way, you pass the inspection but not the turkish cops
so you still lose lol
which is why we'll never have a loud butt car
it's not sensible anyway to ride on the streets with a 500 HP V8, in my book that is..
I've bearly got my car inspected
I want to install a tow hitch but I can't because of the structural damage \
the audis with MMI 2.0 and above have service counters in the infotainment anyway
as long as you can afford to run it, there shouldn't be a big issue (considering the car is not all problematic like some audis)
i think we have hidden tow hitch spots
on the back, you pull out the plastic / alu and get those
it's definitely not a car designed to tow a lot tho
idk about ford focus
but my rear was rusted off
between the crash bar and the spare tyre
if you're towing, i'd definitely recommend something like an EX37 at the very least, like think jet ski towing
IDK if I can have a tow hitch if I don't need to tow anything
the braking is going to be a big problem with a focus
heck it's an issue with our A4 quattro
leave towing to SUVs
yeah but that's just the paper
650 kg without brake assisted trailer
towing 1200 with that thing is going to be way hard
or even 650
you probably can carry like half of 650 inside the car
before the vehicle would start shaking left to right at higher speeds
so gg with a trailer on the back lol
my car already does that with no load
yeah ours was doing it down highway at high speeds like 160
Im worried that when I get my Cybertruck and tow a Trailer, I could RIP it (the mount) by giving full torque. 😄
at 140 I can feel that
but we had a lot of weight in, kinda
also i keep telling dad to slow down at those speeds
lol
I need new rear struts but I can't afford jack shit now
I just need my car to do grosceries and get to my driving lessons
the torsen is baller tho, it slides a bit but you can take some corners at that 160 km/h
definitely wouldn't suggest doing regardless of the quattro
unless you're carrying somebody to a hospital or something..
some struts are cheap and seemingly good
would do if that didn't cost me half of my savings
and I'm still in the middle of doing my license so I can drive trucks with trailers commercially
I still need my C+E
I really can't afford to own a car
sounds cool
at least in this sitiuation
definitely hard with the biggest boys tho, corners and whatnot.. gonna need people helping you unless it's a new volvo or something
old trucks also had no airbags or stuff
just in case.. think a bridge or something lol
I've managed to attach trailer to the truck I was driving first time
but just that I have to ram in to the trailer makes me feel like I'm breaking the truck
it's what it is i guess..
trucks are rough go'ers, but like you gotta be a real pro driving those around anyway
I've got my C license first try
I got a job offer not too long ago. They are offering to pay for my CE license 😄
well
I'm getting it for free
I'm getting it because I just can't get a job here
and I need to move abroad next year
Higher chances to find a job
It was the same for me with my C license.
But the state is too cheap. And think that you're getting a job with just C either way.
They just don't want to pay for the CE license here in Stockholm.
base trim pontiac fiero
id probably go down the route of becoming a truck driver but some of the super market drop off areas for trucks give me true fear
and ive not even touched the door of a truck yet
i've been in some big trucks.. but i was too small to remember it all perfectly
dad used to take me to autoshows
“Family Cars”
hefty chonkers
le familia a la luxury sedan 😏
45?
not bad.
@fallen falcon which tune on the 2.0? 40 or 45? (190HP or 220HP)
40 and 45 are the newer sayings, the 2.0 TFSI on b8 came at 211 and 225 HP flavors
it's not a B9 so it has the better torsen, 211 ponies.
i dig the cobalt
anyone know anything about electric motors
Oh no, that would attract the Tesla fanboys
i dont like tesla's but i want to make a mobility scooter go 0-60 in 2 seconds.
have u ever seen a tesla swapped rx7? they RIP
im looking for 80hp
sheee
i mean quick lmao
some cars used to have 80hp lol
ill dm you a video
All wheel drive
used to
Looks at car with 83hp
My astra has 80hp lmao
Anyway, you can put as much power in a mobility scooter as you want, the problem is getting the power down to the ground
my Skyline has 340hp but that's just semantics
