Car goes vroom

stoic ledge
#

Not always

fathom socket
#

My car goes "silent fan noises"

charred depot
#

wish i had a cctv cam myself to show the citroen c1 that decided the gritted grooves were not for them

#

they opted for the like 5" deep snow

#

i believe the grooves were based around a ford rangers track width so maybe slightly too far apart for them heh

fathom socket
#

U didn't crash :0

charred depot
#

noh, i wont do that around a corner i cant see around though

#

not the worst just the least expected

#

just needs slammed on stock worn shocks then it will have unlimited traction :^)

viral matrix
fathom socket
#

that means you can go round corners faster weSmart

charred depot
#

if i cut the springs then they are factory springs and i dont have to declare it to insurance 🧠

civic girder
#

that long crank, oof

stoic ledge
#

Those steps through the snow are satisfying tho

fathom socket
#

Usually My car starts right away

#

But only when cold

charred depot
#

if the police pull you over here and you have choppies your car gets impounded heh

#

on cars where the rear suspension doesent use struts it was common for the cut springs to pop out over bumps

#

mainly torsion beam, when mine snapped it was trying to wiggle its way out

fathom socket
#

I just confirmed the deal on the truck

#

I will be picking up my 2007 Ford F-150 STX on Saturday

civic girder
#

meanwhile I bought a bunch of car parts

fathom socket
#

The engine has 82000 miles on it and the rest of it has 235000 miles but it's a manual so it's fine

civic girder
#

not unusual for a truck

fathom socket
#

The old engine wasn't bad according to the guy but he had this other white f150 work truck that was beat up

#

So he swapped the engines between the two

civic girder
#

oh interesting, I had assumed the engine got rebuilt

fathom socket
#

It sounds good

#

No noises

#

I am paying $3200 which is still a steal

#

It comes with a toolbox that is really nice

civic girder
#

I bought, fog lights, a dome light cover, an FSM, a new aux cable for my daily, LED fog light bulbs, a spare OMP that I may need for an upcoming project, and a Yamaha bike 2-stroke fuel tank for said upcoming project

fathom socket
#

I'm pretty sure it was probably a fleet truck at some point because it has a 5 speed manual which is not listed as an option anywhere

#

I think I'm gonna buy a project quad next

#

Or a newer ride on mower

civic girder
#

project car is better imo

fathom socket
#

Already have one of those

civic girder
#

oh

fathom socket
#

Lmao

civic girder
#

I have 3 of them

fathom socket
#

I've bought 2 cars since November

civic girder
#

same

fathom socket
#

I also have the firetruck and the rustmaster

civic girder
#

I've got the $280 shitbox, and the supervan

#

Plus my daily and my first project car/first car I actually bought

fathom socket
#

I paid $1 for the firetruck (really long story) and the rust master was free

#

The Audi (my project car) was $500

civic girder
#

damn, you got me beat

#

but my $280 shitbox is probably in better shape than both your free cars

#

maybe even the audi, but maybe not

fathom socket
#

The firetruck and rust master were family things so they don't really count as "purchases"

civic girder
#

yea, my daily was like that

fathom socket
#

Audi is like new
Was just parked for 12 years in dry storage

#

So I'm doing a timing belt

civic girder
#

oof yea

#

the $280 shitbox has had a tough life

#

but is actually relatively low miles all things considered

fathom socket
#

It has just over 140k miles I think

civic girder
#

the supervan is from the same model year as the shitbox, and the supervan has 60k more miles on it

#

lmao I'm not jealous

fathom socket
#

It's on the backburner

civic girder
#

only two of my cars have surface rust, the other two are rust free

fathom socket
#

All of my other stuff is rust free

#

It's like that just sucked the rust out of everything

civic girder
#

lol

charred depot
#

seen that image here before i think

#

i hope its not being driven like that heh

fathom socket
#

It wasn't that bad when it was parked 35+ years ago

#

But it was bad

#

But in red

viral matrix
civic girder
#

my 90s Toyotas with over 180k miles cold start faster than that

viral matrix
#

This has almost 230k miles currently

#

Long crank is a good thing in cold, it lets the oil pump make some pressure before it starts up

fathom socket
#

My great uncle drives this 300000+ mile corolla and it has never had a major repair

#

Only thing outside of maintenance was a starter

viral matrix
#

Should probably flush the power steering fluid couple times, the fluid looks almost original

#

It's pitch black and smells burnt

civic girder
#

The Previa has 223k, cranks a little slow but still starts waaaaay faster

#

if its burnt, that's bad

#

burnt atf usually means not good things

Manual transmission gang 😎

#

Manual windows gang 😎

civic girder
#

my only car with manual windows is old enough that it's perfectly acceptable

fathom socket
#

Manual locks gang 😎 😢

civic girder
#

same with the manual locks

#

though one of my 95s has a fucked up lock cylinder so its effectively manual lock on one side

fathom socket
#

My manual windows and locks are on my 2007 Ford F-150, '74 IH loadstar, and '75 IH Scout Terra

#

But the audi has all power features

viral matrix
#

Electric windows, electric sunroof an automatic climate control gang

fathom socket
#

That's my '97 audi a4

viral matrix
#

This is a 2000 accord

civic girder
#

all 3 of my Toyotas have power locks, power windows

fathom socket
#

My truck is like a fleet truck but red

civic girder
#

the mazda has manual windows, manual trans, fully manual locks, manual sunroof, and manual choke. BUT, it has power mirrors

#

the shitbox has power everything except mirrors

#

and the aforementioned fucked driver's door lock

#

none of my Toyotas have sunroofs

viral matrix
#

Only option mine's missing are the power seats

civic girder
#

all 4 of my cars have front disc brakes, rear drum brakes

#

oh yea, I forgot power seats existed lmfao

viral matrix
civic girder
#

none of my cars have that

fathom socket
#

2 of mine are all disc and the other two are all drum

#

wit bout power steering doe

civic girder
#

both my rwd cars are solid axle open diff, but both my fwd cars are dramatically different

#

all 3 toyotas have power steering, the mazda has manual steering

fathom socket
#

The only options my audi does not have are the computer, car phone, and heated seats

civic girder
#

imagine having cars that had optional heated seats

viral matrix
civic girder
#

one of my Toyotas had an option for bluetooth cell phone connectivity

#

the only thing you could do with it was make phone calls

#

glad I have an option-less base model instead

fathom socket
#

My truck does have an aftermarket radio so I got the Bluetooth and usb

viral matrix
#

Same

civic girder
#

most aftermarket radios are trash

fathom socket
#

Yep

#

It feels like garbage

#

I didn't even test it

civic girder
#

I can't wait to put a new CD player in the van

fathom socket

Lmaoo

viral matrix
#

Pioneer has been working nicely

civic girder
#

old aftermarket radios can be really nice

#

90s Kenwoods are awesome

fathom socket
#

My audi has stock radio and I'm glad for that because it keeps the aesthetic looking good

#

I plan to put a cb in my truck

civic girder
#

I have a 90s Kenwood tapedeck in the mazda, and will be putting a 90s Kenwood CD player in the van soon

viral matrix
#

Accord originally had a bose system, that was so bad

civic girder
#

the other two Toyotas have stock radios

#

the shitbox got new speakers and it really bumps now

fathom socket
#

I have Dolby nr on my audi tapedeck

#

And a factory 6 disc changer

#

It works too which is nice

viral matrix

viral matrix
civic girder

viral matrix

Roads are dry everywhere rn

civic girder
#

here, forecast be like "it might snow a little overnight"
the city be like salt intensifies

viral matrix
#

Hasn't even been snowing for a week

civic girder
#

yea they won't salt if its cold and dry

#

they only salt if the forecast projects snow and ice

viral matrix
civic girder
#

Snow plows don't help if its snowing hard enough

viral matrix
#

Salt only makes it worse if it's not plowed first

civic girder
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

viral matrix
#

We had that in one of the bigger cities, they just laid the salt over the already tightly packed snow

#

Only made some big holes, was a terrible to drive over

civic spoke

Problem with salt is that it becomes ineffective when too cold.

im glad i dont go to the city too often because all of my cars are manual

#

2 five speeds and 1 six speed

stoic ledge
#

It's not difficult to drive a manual in a town/city lol

fathom socket
#

but in the constant stop and go on the highway it isnt fun

#

at rush hour

#

i also realized that every single road legal vehicle that i have bought has been a manual with goodyear tires

full bough
#

It is more of a hassle than I care to deal with. That being said, all of the cars im looking at right now are manual.

fathom socket
#

i dont even buy manuals on purpose

#

i just see a good deal and contact the seller

then theyre like "you know this is a ___ speed right"

My next car is going to just kinda be a weekend warrior ya know? something more fun than my 8,000lb diesel truck lmao

I just have my truck and the fiances SUV (hers though). I want something fun. We take one of our dailies if we travel.

#

Really considering a Focus RS. But I also like the WRX. And I also like the Golf R. I'm torn.

fathom socket
#

i like the focus rs and the wrx

#

wrx because it is great for rally or road use

full bough
#

Well.... I'm not going to rally lol

fathom socket
#

the focus rs is great all around

#

its peppy, has decent amounts of storage space, and has plenty of performance parts available

#

i dont know much about the golf r though

I like the WRX the most I believe. But I dont like the sound of that boxer engine or whatever they call it. Sounds like a go kart.

The WRX im looking at is a WRX STi Type RA. Like 1 of 500 or something.

stoic ledge

MSRP of roughly 50k USD apparently, that seems reasonable 0_PogLick

fathom socket
#

Speaking of driving in the city with manual

stoic ledge
#

Base WRX was €108k here kekw

fathom socket
#

I find difficult to drive with automatics

#

At least ones I drove that were super slow to change gears

stoic ledge

Current autos are quite fast while shifting gears

full bough
fathom socket

Those were pre 2010

stoic ledge

full bough
#

And gas here is like $2.48/gallon right now

stoic ledge

WOT?

dense shard
#

Let me guess. With gearing and extended range gas tank.

#

And, when equipped with an optional 33-gallon fuel tank, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has a claimed driving range of 1,000 miles.

#

yeeeeep

#

And only the 4X2 would get over a thousand miles of range... and you'd have to run it down to nearly the last gallon.

ember dove
#

my ford explorer could get like 350 if I filled it to the brim and went 55 without stopping once

dense shard
#

I could do... over 450 in the Corolla if I hit the EPA mileage and ran it down to nearly empty.

ember dove
#

maybe 4!

as long as I get 250 to a quarter tank no matter what I'm good with a car lmao

On a flat road... I could maybe hit 500?

thats how often you will have to fill up

ember dove
#

i gotta fill up every like 3 days

i bet I could stretch that truck to a week and a half

fathom socket
#

i wont lie, how long between fuelling up isnt a metric which interest me

ember dove
#

and then I'd only spend 500$ on 50 gallons of diesel :D

might aswell just buy a tank for special trips and cycle to work much cheaper

i gotta fill up like every 3 days

I like both, but I feel the RS had a little more compared to the R of 2016, and I love this blue. Going from the FWD my only rules for the new car buy when I started shopping in 2015 was not FWD and a 5DR hatchback.

#

I was really close to getting a used STI when Ford announced the RS. Ordered it Oct of 2015 when the order banks opened and took delivery June of 2016, within 24 hours had it on the auto-x course putting the Cup 2 tires to work while not getting it all the gas, so I momentum drove it like an underpowered car... @glacial marlin nice! I have no need for more power in this one right now. It's super reliable and fun as is, drove to PA and NJ several times, mountains of NC. One weekend a friend and I drove to ViR, worked a race there Friday and Saturday, Saturday night drive to CMP to race the Civic, then drove home in it. Weather forecast was all over the place that weekend so I have 13 tires (street, dry, wet and a spare street) on or in the car, tools, full size floor jack, jack stands as well as all our camping gear. I just mentioned the Cybertruck which I wanted that badly, only comes with a 6.5ft bed...
Thats a major Argument against it for me though. I need at least a bed of 7.6ft (91in) size. :frowning:

#

I really hope there will be a larger Version of the truck somewhen.

charred depot
#

you probably want to get a cheap scanner

#

our cars have had missfire codes that have stuck on im pretty sure

dense shard
#

Cybertruck likely won't have an 8 foot bed option.

#

It's already massive.

fathom socket
#

No its not. Its an average size pickup and a smaller-than-average transport vehicle by European Standards

dense shard
#

If by average we're talking by crew cab trucks with 6.5 foot beds, sure.

#

And those are already too big for the average driver to handle very well in a parking lot... or fit in a garage.

fathom socket
#

I would estimate the Ford F150 Raptor as an Average

dense shard
#

The Raptor isn't average.

fathom socket
#

Well, the 6x6 Raptor isnt average for sure..

dense shard
#

The standard raptor is wide enough to mandate extra running lights.

#

It's a wide boi

fathom socket
#

Anyway... The Cybertruck was advertised with the Cyberquad. Im just sad that the Cybertruck doesnt have a larger bed to accomp larger ATV/Quads. Something which does have more the utility factor like the Pickup-part rather than the racing one.

#

Because Pickups are usually Utility vehicles.
ATVs/Quads are usually Utility vehicles.
The ATV/Quad Elon set as reference for the Cybertruck is a Sports Quad

dense shard
#

ATVs in the US are usually used for recreational purposes.

#

And a lot of trucks in the US sold today have abandoned any attempts at utility.

#

They've replaced luxury brands essentially.

#

15 years ago, highest trim was a Ford F150 Lariat. Eye watering at 50k.

#

Now we're pushing 100k with uhhhh... Limited or Platinum. I forgot which trim is the highest.

#

And getting into the Heavy Duty trucks... well, that's where stuff gets fun.

fathom socket
#

I do own an ATV. Its the CFMoto CForce 1000.
Its meant to get used with a snow plow and/or a trailer, secure cargo on it etc.
...would like to havea Pickup suitable to transport it. And by the features with the ramp & air suspension, the Cybertruck would be suitable. But its just too short. Idk if its bed is broad enough, but should be.

dense shard
#

A ramp isn't exactly a huge selling point considering you can get those for fairly cheap.

#

And air suspension is frankly... a gimmick. It's a thing that will break.

busses take this road though so

dense shard
#

Imagine something several inches wider.

fathom socket
#

Range Rover is 198cm wide.
Cybertruck is 202cm wide.
4cm Difference ain't that much

#

And after all, the 35" wheels should allow u to go offroad when the road ain't wide enough.

dense shard
#

Which isn't legal in most cities and towns.

charred depot
#

wonder what the turning circle will be like

#

biggest pickup ive seen is a ford ranger and it is biig

dense shard

Ranger is comically big for a "mid size"

That's what the F150 was 15 years ago.

#

Speaking of pickup truck sizes

#

I saw a doge ram in Switzerland taking up 4 parking spaces

#

Wouldn't fit in 1

charred depot

range rover barely fits in one often enough here, they end up taking up 2

#

using that much space is like a guaranteed door ding heh.

It's heavier, since you need to have air tanks and airbags, and then you need compressors too that can keep up with the system

You think I don’t know

Never did I postulate why other brands implement air suspension on all cars, it’s pretty obvious that I’m talking about a feature for cars that ALREADY have it

#

So your stupid argument really has no relevancy unless you want to talk about added wear but that’s already a stretch in itself

problem is most are overpriced, have ass range, or are ugly/have a shitty interior

EVs aren't unique in having questionable interiors.
