Haynes manuals are good
I am using one for my timing belt replacement right now

civic girder
#

yea

#

I need it for the wiring diagrams mainly

#

but I also need to know some other maintenance intervals for it

#

I've got Haynes manuals for my other cars too. Probs gonna use one for my own timing belt job

charred depot

That looks horrible.

civic girder
# fathom socket Timing belt are very fun

Yea. Will be for me since I also have to do water pump and coolant. Timing belt has to come off to get to the water pump, so I may as well do it before it shits itself 50 miles later and leaks coolant everywhere

dense shard

Imagine having only one injector per cylinder.

#

Post made by the dual port injection Nissan gang.

#

Because of course Nissan couldn't do dual injection right.

#

Honestly... I dig it.

civic girder
#

I mean, port injection is better

#

(reliability wise)

#

but imagine having injectors at all

#

If my 'rolla dies anytime soon.

#

I will just get an Altima.

#

AWD, and just relax.

civic girder
#

thats a disgusting downgrade

dense shard
#

Not really. The new Altimas are pretty sweet.

civic girder
#

not from what I've seen

dense shard
#

ok

civic girder
#

Nissan hasn't made anything appealing in over a decade

dense shard
#

Not sure I agree.

civic girder
#

I haven't ridden in a Nissan and not thought its uncomfortable and has a cheap interior

dense shard
#

My family's Rogue is super comfy.

civic girder
#

the rental Altima I had last fall had a barely functional infotainment

dense shard
#

Kinda cheap, but no worse than the Civic we had before.

#

... actually better than the Civic.

#

Better AC for sure.

civic girder
#

It's pretty ironic when I've driven numerous older, and older cheap, cars that are more comfortable than a brand new $25-30k car

#

I have yet to ride in a car more comfortable than my friend's 89 LTD

#

My RX-7 is somehow more comfortable than my dad's Fusion

dense shard
#

To each their own.

civic girder
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

I suppose so

dense shard
#

Personally I wouldn't trade my car in for anything.

#

Because there is no fucking way anything in that size class from the 80s is better.

civic girder
#

The LTD is uber comfortable, and it cruises nicely. But that's all it really has going for it lol

#

Ironically the RX-7 somehow manages better mpg than some new cars lmao

dense shard
#

gas cheap, big new cars get good enough fuel economy

#

Americans aren't compelled to care

civic girder
#

Please explain how a modern car with fancy computers and fuel injection gets worse economy than a barely functional 80s rotary with a carburetor

dense shard
#

Because a modern car... assuming you can even buy one today, weighs 5000 pounds, and is a crossover.

#

People aren't interested in fuel economy. They want power, size, and uhhhh more power.

civic girder
#

people are stupid

dense shard
#

wow

#

Cheapest new truck I can buy in my area is a Dodge Ram 1500 for 34k.

civic girder
#

god damn

dense shard
#

Cheapest Ford is 37.

civic girder
#

that's actually terrible

dense shard
#

34 isn't too bad considering it has the tech package and 4x4.

civic girder
#

ig

dense shard
#

That's actually about as cheap as you can get without going custom order.

civic girder
#

but its a Chrysler

dense shard
#

I'll take it over a Ford or Chevy.

#

Especially if I have a warranty.

civic girder
dense shard
#

Turns out GM might be covering up some oiling issues on the 5.3.

civic girder
#

I wouldn't take any of the 3

dense shard
#

I don't trust Ford's 5.0 to last.

#

The 1500 on sale is the last gen "classic."

#

The Hemi has been around for too long. Meaning issues have been fixed.

civic girder
#

I'd just buy a Tacoma or Tundra

dense shard
#

Both are more expensive.

#

And neither are better on gas.

civic girder
#

well ofc not

#

still a truck

#

but at least it won't break

dense shard
#

Why would I get a smaller more expensive truck?

civic girder
#

reliability

dense shard
#

I'm in warranty either way.

civic girder
#

if I need a truck, I want one that won't shit itself doing truck things

dense shard
#

Cheapest Taco is 36k.

#

Cheapest Tundra is 38k.

civic girder
#

I would definitely pay the $2k premium over a RAM

dense shard
#

4k premium?

#

With much much much worse fuel economy.

civic girder
#

You said the RAM was $34k

dense shard
#

Yes.

#

And the Tundra is 38k.

#

That fuel economy is actually kinda comical.

civic girder
#

I was talking about Taco not Tundra

dense shard
#

Sure, but I'm honestly not a fan of the Taco.

#

Not sure I want to reward Toyota for making a small thing more expensive than a big thing.

civic girder
#

they're nice

#

That could just be your area

#

or are you going by MSRP?

#

cause the Tacoma MSRP starts at $26k

#

while the RAM MSRP starts at $32k

#

locally I can find Tacomas for $30k

im looking at two different cars atm from the dealership i work at. both bodies are fine. no rust, good frames. both are used. the lancer has alot of new stuff/mods put on it, as far as intercooler/turbo. new transmission, only front driver seat/racing seat. straight piped.
the sti is stock 2017 sti, with all new brakes and slight visual mods.
both are in the 17k - 20k range. if anybody has any first hand experience id like some opinions about how the later generation lancers hold up.

i agree with modding, with the exception that the evo im talking about is worked on by my dealership i work at, has a fantastic warranty and has been modded and dyno'd by some of the most acclaimed mechanics in my local areas ecosystem. the evo is selling for $17k but has had nearly $11k put into it. it was more a pet project of the owner of where i work just as something fun to do, and is now selling it, and yes it is of course a manual transmission. either of them i'll be able to get about 1k extra off because of being an employee. i'm also looking at a bmw 355i but have been told the stock components tend to be cheap and not capable of being used for there purpose aside from higher fuel milage, i,e tubro will melt.

whoops i accidentally rolled back into ur ferrari guess its ur fault

copper oyster
#

well no brake

#

lol

charred depot
#

if you roll back here im pretty sure its your fault regardless

fathom socket
#

oh if its a projector no clue

civic girder
#

If there's plenty of distance and you roll back and hit them obv you're at fault

fathom socket
#

yeah i think so, sounds about rihgt

copper oyster
#

it depends I think on the distance

civic girder
#

But if they basically kiss your bumper before you even roll back, they're 200% at fault for not giving you room

copper oyster
#

like yeah a manual car rolls back a bit. I personally don't but it feels like you make the clutch more toasty

fathom socket
#

uk drivers are expected to not roll back in their test i think

#

like you get a bit of leeway obviously but too much and thats probably a minor

charred depot
#

yeah

#

on the test i just made good use of the handbrake

civic girder
#

On a steep hill it's basically impossible to not roll back, at least not without toasting both your rear brakes and clutch

copper oyster
#

yeah it's easy not to roll back after you get a hang of it. You just do it anyways to show everyone

#

I owe someone here 4.20 CAD on paypal but I wanna send it so it doesn't show my name

charred depot
#

well the expecation here would be that if you cant safely move off, not to.

What's funny is that I found out I can make the brake lights turn off without actually letting off the brakes in my Prius. So I can flash my brake lights at people lol

charred depot
#

if there is a car 1 inch behind you dont try it would be the expectation

copper oyster
#

yeah 1 inch you're breaking other laws already anyways

#

makes sense

#

like 3m I think here

civic girder
#

Here, if the car is one inch behind you they're at fault of you hit them

copper oyster
#

is distance

fathom socket
#

my car's handbrake needs adjustment so with 4 people + luggage the handbrake doesnt exactly hold it on a hill

#

totally not gonna bite me in the ass at some point

charred depot
#

my dad tried to MOT his car when the handbrake did absolutely nothing

civic girder
#

Here, you're only supposed to pull up until the bottom of their rear tires begins to leave your normal field of view

charred depot
#

well to be fair he knew it would fail but

civic girder
#

And you're supposed to follow at 2 cars distance normally, further if abnormal weather conditions

charred depot
#

2 seconds and 4 seconds if raining here

copper oyster
#

omg I had a very big friend who sat in the back-right of a mazda. My buddy driving went in for a tight turn and this guy's weight forced the wheel well onto the wheel

#

but the body somehow stuck out and ended up slicing the tire along

#

Now that's true power

charred depot
#

most people here dont follow the 2 second rule, alot of car sandwiches on the 60mph b roads

copper oyster
#

yeah I feel bad for those most ppl

My heavier friend makes the Corolla more inclined to rub when the shitty failing struts bottom out lol

copper oyster
#

I mean after a while even if you *almost rear-end because of red lights popping up, etc

#

or on the freeway. Like 100 2m behind a guy is not a safe feeling thing to do

#

then again that's like .2 second rule lol

#

The only one time I got into a fender bender was somebody just drove into me on a red light

charred depot
#

i dont usually use my horn but used it recently after a van went from lane 3 to lane 1 right behind me

copper oyster
#

*knocks on wood

charred depot
#

i ofcourse was making proper use of the horn indicating my presence

#

he wanted the exit that was coming up and wasnt happy with me doing like 65 gps
