those bolts on the shocks were a nightmare to get out and it wasnt even a initial break, the entire way through it was solid.
For the fronts
had to take it out like i was tapping it, back and forth.
what about Trailing-arm suspension
like areoplane
What
our civic has trailing arms i think
I think the Corolla has trailing arms, but idk
wait no the civic has arms going out from the middle of the car
Our instagram https://www.instagram.com/garage__54/
DIY magnetic suspension
Maglev
Bc the explorer is body on frame
You can get shots like that
My friends all payed like 1k for thier econ boxes
I payed 8k for my explorer
Pushroad suspention
i payed more for my ecobox so id not be feeding insurance companies as much
and so id not need a black box
actually
I have a black box
but not really
it's more of an app
but I got a horibble score
because it thinks I was going 670 kmh in the city
i dont want to give any more than £1k/y to a insurance company
first year was £930 then went down to £540 for next year
other even lower powered cars were like £1400 for the first year and required a black box
I feel like the only way to beat an insurance company is to not use it
Or crash into a 4 million pound car with a £60 ford ka
And even then you're basically banned from driving for a good while
You ain't ever going to win. If you think about it too hard insurance is gambling where you're betting against yourself
you're betting the insurance company you'll crash your car
and they're betting you won't

if there isnt a British car under there im gonna be very disappointed
Probably 3 BMWs
Gotta have a Northstar Caddie
Spoiler:
||There is a Britisch car||
either someone doesent know their nearside from their offside or this wasnt a mot advisory which is kinda shocking
the other side has an advisory for corrision
if this isnt corrosion then im worried as to what the other side is
Anyone familiar with late 90s audis? Looking at a 99 a6 avant
What engine?
Generally there should be no rust on the body. If there is, that might indicate damage from an accident. Ask the owner about this (if they're the first one).
Front suspension is a weak point on these cars because the engine hangs in front of it and it's under a lot of stress. Check that thoroughly. If it has electric windows and mirrors, check that they still work. Same for AC, cruise control. Check that the ABS still works and that it doesn't pull to the side during hard braking.
Best to also bring a laptop with VCDS and a ross-tech connector if you have one or know someone who does. Check for errors.
I can tell you more about the engines if you tell me which one you're looking at
The 1.8T is obviously great but it has little things that are guaranteed broken on 90% of them that cause them to not run right. If it idles weirdly, drops revs at idle, you're likely looking at vacuum and/or exhaust leaks, MAF sensor failure, PCV issues, throttle body issues
Did Americans get the 1.8T in the '99 A6? Don't think they did
Not sure
North American C5 A6 models received the 2.8-litre, 30-valve V6 engine, the 2.7-litre "Biturbo" V6 (also found in the B5 platform S4, 250 PS (180 kW; 250 hp)), and the 4.2-litre 40-valve V8 petrol engine (300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp))```
Wikipedia says no
Alright
america no want no little 1.8
well the one to go for is the 2.7 Biturbo
it will financially ruin you but oh well
Don't they all go boom as well
the 2.8 NA V6 is ok but slow. The 4.2 V8 sounds good but also pretty slow
6MT are rock solid but idk about the tiptronic
quattro adds complexity obviously
What engine is most likely in it? I think it’s a 2.8 but not sure
I asked but no reply yet
Probably the 2.8. It's not really fast but if it's taken care of, they are solid. Make sure the belts have been serviced and be aware that the 2.8 and 2.7T have timing chains as well (timing belt drives the exhaust cam, exhaust cam drives the intake cam) same as on my 1.8, same as the 1.8T. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5DInSycuBI

The chains will lengthen over time and the tensioners can fail (plastic rails can break, if it doesn't hold oil pressure properly anymore due to carbon buildup or failed seals, it won't be able to tighten the chain enough)
if it makes a ruckus for a few seconds at cold start, could be that.
The lifters also fail occasionally
tbh, I should probably do the timing chain on the Corolla
My second option is an 04 Volvo S60 R
Volvo are so nice, my dad owned one your 10 years.
5cyl?
nope different model
bummer
yhea
@patent basalt but if it's not too small for you, the A4 B5 1.8T would definitely be worth a look, great little cars (though I might be biased)
The R looks like a pretty damn nice car
I’d like a somewhat decent sized car I have a baby due like anyday lol
A4 comes as Avant too. Otherwise a Golf isn't as small a car as it looks
I’m kinda leaning more to the Volvo right now being an R if it wasn’t I’d probably go more Audi, the Audi is a manual and I prefer that but I’ll drive an auto if it’s a nicer car
I’m a huge fan of the R from what I’ve heard they are pretty quick?
Depends on the generation
Nice upshot is all Golf Rs are made in Germany
Supposedly. USDM GTIs are apparently Mexico sourced.
pretty sure he means the volvo R?
Audi A3 2.0 TFSI > Golf GTI IMO (same engine). Plus you got the quattro option if you want it and it comes as a hatch
I don't think Audi manufactures anything in Mexico
I wish they'd do like a Golf R25 or something and put the 2.5 TFSI 5cyl from the RS3/TT RS/RS Q3 in it. I want that engine in everything. It's the best one they've built in recent years IMO.
Yeah is a Volvo S60 R
I know nothing about these things I’ve only owned chevy and Ford for years
ahhh a Volvo.
Classic Volvo products of the era.
If you can find one in decent condition, it'll treat you well.
All weather, luxury M-products that aren't German.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auEdEYY3ao4 I'll just leave this here
An old clip, but it's, em, so indirect, yet direct..

What if I don't want a rebadged VW?
You buy an A4 or up
Those are still VW corporate platforms.
And that's a bad thing because?
hello
sup
Honestly?
LINUS TECH TIPS
When I buy a luxury car I'd rather have a bespoke platform rather than share anything from a budget product.
What's the benefit?
I can forgive it in the A4 or A3.
!userinfo linus
Honestly? Looking at Acura. Benefits of a unique platform mean you can have better handling, better ride, and have a unique experience.
@dense shard hi
Sure but if you want a unique experience then anything German really won't be an option
Lexus LS, Acura TLX to name two.
Lexus GS, RC, and LC.
IS as well I believe. Tho GS is going away.
And LS I think shares a platform with the Toyota Crown. Tho that is also considered a luxury product.
To be fair those brands are virtually nonexistent where I live. Acura isn't even a thing here and I've maybe seen one or two Lexus this year
They're big in the US.
Since we're spoiled for choice, if I can afford a luxury car, I can afford to be picky.
yeah I know. We only have Toyota and Honda
Fair enough.
Toyota Crown much?
Not in the US.
i know lol
Well we do get the new Mirai.
Even if that URL is a doozy.
This picture might be offensive to Americans
I WANT
We're getting the Corolla GR next year.
At least you got the RS 6 Avant this year
And if that comes with 2 doors. I'm trading in my HB no questions asked.
ugh
I guess that's great for the 5 people who will buy it?
IIRC they're sold out everywhere because demand is so high
Car people freak out when a performance wagon comes to the US, but market realities slap that down so hard.
Haven't heard that at all. I'm guess their limited run is sold out in the US.
I'll apply the same level of salt to Mercedes.
I don't think the new RS6 is comparable with the previous performance wagons you had. It's basically a Lambo wagon
Absolutely horrid car to own... but hey it's got a Lambo engine.
yeah I wouldn't want to be caught with that out of warranty
The Car Wizard had one but he got tired of constantly fixing stuff so he sold it
110k for the Avant tho.
Speaking of wagons, is the US getting the Arteon Variant?
If I'm ever in a position to spend 100k+ on a car just because its fun, I would probably just keep saving for a bit and buy a mclaren or something. You can find a solid 570s for what? Like 170k-ish? More smiles per mile for sure.
Best sounding V6's? I'm kinda a 6g72 fan. I don't really like the VQ engines
inline 6's still triumph imo
Duratec 25 or Honda J for best V6s.
Does the 24V VR6 count?
VW bad
Two heads V6, One head Inline.
I still see those terrible mercedes wagons here though.
I'm gonna call the VR6 an inline.
no

You need a camshaft to be considered a real engine
I unironically think I like the 6G72 sound cus it doesn't actually sound much like a V6 LOL
Which... building on that joke... Gen 3 Ford SHOs are only semi-real considering the issues they had.
Pretty sure ive seen a video of a car with a rotary running a 5 second quarter mile at like 240mph. Drag car, but still hilarious
technically rotaries are inline
laughs in ship diesel
the rotors are in a line
Diesel. The engine tech that's as clean as clean coal.
hella efficient when utilized properly tho
compression though
diesel rotary

My truck is a diesel. Im sure its not exactly clean though
It kinda sounds like somewhere between a straight 6 and a v6
yea, ironically diesel trucks are worse on the environment than rotaries
They got in a bunch of trouble for like false advertising or something like that iirc
Rotaries aren't known for soot and particulates.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIGo-bTsK0M Did you know they made a VR5 engine? I had no idea but it sounds amazing

Yeah
VW got caught for cheating on federal tests and lying.
perfect. Time to bring it back

They also aren't known for emissions.
Everyone cheated
Everyone did yes.
And that's why Honda and Toyota quit.
I mean those tiny Diesels are kinda pointless but for bigger stuff they still have their place
Modern semis are pretty great all things considered.
Emissions are down and fuel economy is up.
Yeah semis are crazy clean for what huge engines they have
For fun I temporarily unhooked the exhaust from my Volvo s80 v8 just to see what it would sound like.... I was pleasantly surprised :)
V8s are cheating they sound good even when they're turned off
27 in the city, 35+ on the highway.
Yamaha fine tuned the engine iirc
Sounds like a C63 or something
Its the same V8 That's in the Noble M600
During the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2017 I filmed the brand new Noble M600 Speedster. This beast is powered by a Yamaha-derived 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 engine which is able to produce 650 horsepower! This particular one was also fitted with what I believe to be a sort of anti-lag system!

same engine iirc
My dad had this engine in his volvo xc90 2004. I allways love it. Such a nice sound
https://youtu.be/OiHQn8Km6B0?t=379 this is about as close as it gets to dream car material. A 4 door Sport quattro build

True
That build is insane though, they had to fabricate so many things to convert a regular 4 door Audi 80 into a Sport quattro
the wheels are completely custom made
only to put a roll cage in the back
Seems like blasphemy to LS swap a 944, but boy does it sure look like a lot of fun
Might make it perform like Porsche wishes it did.
The engines in the 944 were trash
From what I'm seeing, it almost seems like the 944 is the perfect car for an LS
Wasnt the 944 turbo like 250hp?
Pretty good for like 1985
yeah but they were all 4cyls and huge displacement, they weren't sporty at all
like those were truck engines basically
Fair
Im watching a dude drive one right now that makes like 450+ to the wheels and it looks like a literal metric shit ton of fun
with an LS?
Yeah
yeah I can imagine
That car was pretty light no?
And I bet the aluminum LS doesnt weigh much more than the stock engine
https://imgur.com/a/cCRms1Y we had a 944 engine on display at my school
tell me those aren't truck pistons

So they swapped it to make it slower, interesting
Well, at least in like an 8th mile/quarter mile race.

How much more power can you get out of an NA LS with just a tune?
LS7 made 505 in the end.
The 6.2s... 450? Tho I imagine the number can be higher with bits, tunes, and what have yous.
The blocks themselves can handle stupid amounts of power. How you make it is up to you.
Things super nice, never had one before. Love it already
sweet
Timing belt was done at 150 it’s at 170 now so that saves me some trouble
Super clean for its miles and age especially in my state everything turns to rust from road salt so fast
Nice enjoy
Little worried after some of the comments peole made about how it’s gonna be a shit car but still excited lol
Probably still cheaper than running a 1.4-something here
That explorer isn’t that bad on gas I had a Chevy 3500 dually with an 8.1, it got 9
Imagine not paying €1.70/liter
It's a weird one. Like I don't know if the yanks should raise tax on gas
you pump up cost of living
and it overwhelmingly affects the poor
but gas is so cheap they all drive those huge trucks and it's hideous for the environment
I pay 0.46 eur for a liter of gas
whereaboots?
Poland
I remember beer and vodka being very cheap in Poland
and the hotel we stayed at
I don't remember much else
That's a lie, we went to a shooting range and it was AWESOME
was as high as like £1.47 for 1l of petrol before covid here
when it went down to a pound i brimmed my car heh
1 liter on 95 petrol costs around 1 euro here
about £1.12 when i saw a couple days ago
I wonder how long my ford will last with LPG conversion
yeah
I need to fix my engine asap
the valves are loose
i need the gapping adjusted on mines or whatever soon acoording to el manuel
@patent basalt it's shit according to people because it isn't an AWD M5, nor is it a luxury WRX STi.
What people forget is the Volvo is a unique product that stands on it's own.
other than GRILLE it looks nice
probably not as bad as my road / track day tyres in snow
i did no many burnouts trying to launch onto roundabouts last year
it do be icy tho
it was like 0c
@dense shard that’s true, it’s pretty sweet tho imo so cheap for an awd 300hp car
bipped at bike for having a light which rivals bmw's with full beams on his forehead
I took the RX-7 out for it's first drive in 3 weeks
Encountered a wild popup+fog light gang member
love them Porches
Straight pipes saves lives.
it wont be a full straight pipe
This is just the header
Yeah, I get that. I could personally never live with a straight-piped car.
for a second car yeah
but daily no
I generally like to hear.
Hearing protection is bae.
theres wheels like that similar for the e46 i think which i actually like
dont know if its a unpopular opinion
yeah not actually as similar as i thought
seem to remember them being circles and much less of them
Style 46 is probably my favourite heh
oo
id love to get a e36 next year but ill probably have to settle with a e46
not going to spend too much just want a second car that will give me a moderate amount of nightmares to work on
i guess that is kinda contradicting
i dont want to initially spend too much but im happy to toss money into a pit
That is a sexy car
there’s a car channel in this server hell yes
restored a chevelle with my dad over corona lockdown
hell of a covid project.
you said it lol
took like 6 months
when quarantine got started it was in primer with no body panels on it
first thing we did was paint it
headliner was a pain
engine is a 350 small block bored to 355, all new parts except for the block
Damn she's a beaut
God damn am I loving this Volvo
Probably my favorite car I’ve had and I’ve had a ton lol
I found a 1969 Impala on Facebook that I really want but my mother won’t let me buy it
And she hates the fact that I want to go for a stock car style
If it where her car she would put it on hydros
And it’s only 2400 bucks

Guys is it acceptable to drive a Mk. 1 TT as a straight guy? It's been a dream of mine since I first saw one
Yeah but look at it it's all round and shit
lol.
No but seriously it's called a hairdresser's car for a reason
I'm just not sure if I can pull it off
Me too. I don't think I'll ever buy anything newer than 2001
At least until ICE cars get outlawed
Or prohibitively expensive to run as a daily
I like my RX
I want a GS F but that's a complete pipe dream
I think the LC 500 is one of the prettiest car ever made
I mean so are porsches and the car is considered feminine not the driver
The backs on the Porsches are more aggressive though. This thing looks bubbly and happy from every angle
especially as a convertible. But I just love them
Just do it lol
yeah I probably should...
I think many thought the same of miatas
True
But a good car is a good car in the end of the day lol
That's fair
the 1.8T is mighty fine
could put down some serious power with quattro (albeit haldex)

Audi 100 Coupé that is

sorta kinda
it is just me or does it remind you of a ford capri

What I find a bit weird is Toyota does offer the Corolla with a turbo in other countries.
I wonder what kept them from bringing the turbo over to the US.

Look how stable the car is when it's in the air. Has nothing to do with weight distribution of the drive train and chassis. Has nothing to do with aerodynamics either. It's all due to the absolutely massive stainless steel balls on this man.

Heh I just had a snow storm
My friends fifty year old dad drives one so I think you’ll be fine. But it would be perfect if you were a air hostess.
Imagine being old enough to drive car wheeze
Does forza 4 count?
Probably because nobody wants a 1.2 Turbo in the US
3.5 v6 turbo in corolla when
Japan has a 3.5 V6 N/A version of what in Europe was called the "Auris", which basically was a Corolla but they changed the nameplate

I'd have been happy with the A25 and a limited slip on the front.
Toyota is still selling the new Corolla with the last gen 1.8.
Trade a few horsepower in for more torque I imagine.
Just a bit more, but it comes in earlier.
Still. Damn glad Toyota did finally bring the Auris/Corolla Sport over to the US.
I don't think that we got that here in Europe? At least not the same powerful version.
The Toyota "Blade Master" was JP only I believe.
There really isn't a business case outside of Japan.
But on the plus side. The US did get the more powerful engine.
It's pretty much all hybrids here in Sweden
Finally got to use my winter tires... sort of.
It's so cold the snow isn't sticking.
Ahh
We've hit that fun temperature where roads don't need to be salted.
still not as bad as the cyclist with a supernova strapped to his head
snapped his head around and lit up my rear view mirror when i did a quick bip as i went by heh

They are very proud of it apparently.

Too bad it won't sell
Selling well in Japan.
And in the US sales are up... and they somehow have a lot of conquest buyers. As in first time buyers.
same thing as the blazer, they designed something that appeals to the general public, not the enthusiasts
gets them more sales
and with the mustang mach e
they put a big name on the car so people buy it
Enthusiasts right now aren't known for buying new. Even when they are offered a choice.
And the Mustang... well it's the one name Ford has that isn't tarnished to hell.
In retrospect. Thunderbird wouldn't have sold well.
Its everything I could've hoped for
Car parts!
For my birthday I will ask for one or both of my clutch cylinders
lol
I also got a cig lighter powered vacuum, which is hella nice
too bad the cig lighter in the RX-7 is the big not connected
I got a vice and nice new files
wow actual tyres instead of the eco 0 friction ones prius' come with
I know its a image from a dashcam so the depth is a bit hard to judge but do you guys think my headlights are dipped too much?
seems fine to me
bare in mind dashcam makes things look further
but i think it was just google maps flashbanging me by randomly deciding dark mode was no longer appropriate
still seems further than my car on dash cam
I just get like 1 meter of bearly visible light
but LEDS are just blinding to me
whos tha fov
huh?
fov of the dashcam
140
same
my car seems to be pretty unstable at 140 kmph
yeah i think it was just the satnav making my eyes go dim
IDK if it's because this highway gets lots of winds
randomly decided hm yes 6pm how about light mode
I've learned to drive without nav
at least here where I live
it's not that hard to get lost
its basically mandatory in edinburgh even if you know where you are going
cause chances are there is 50 miles of roadwork being performed by 1 man
I miss the 165° FOV of my Xiaomi Yi, although image quality of the Viofo A119 v3 is way better (140° FOV also)
I have 70mai dash cam pro
cant believe that new mini which appeared to be using highbeams when theres still sunlight on a busy road
I basically had to junk the Yi dashcam due to its battery being dead so it'd just corrupt everything, loose dates (= no recording) etc. So I made sure the new one had capacitors
I dislike basically all those new car with LED headlights
Especially those with auto high beam
That feature just doesn't work... Ever
im pretty sure they were using the frickin high beam manually
already had insane LED headlights, nah gotta have my highbeam on too
still, could be worse
i take my dashcam out of the mount to try and shield the dashcam from what little directly sunlight it could get in Scotland
i dont have parking mode or whatever so doesent matter
very often those cars just blind me and I just pull over on a random drive way and let them pass
also

but actually I want to make it drivable when I get6 a better chair
15 iirc
No new-ish car have 12 inchers. Right?
not heard of anything below 14
lol apparently on the mazda 2 instead of just replacing the lower ball joint you replace the entire lower control arm
Same on the E46. If I remember right.
controlley bois
mines are probably bent anyway, made of thin stamped sheet metal if i remember right
if they were bent, your alignment would be off and uncorrectable
Not like a Mazda 2 is that heavy anyways, they could def get away with something thin and cheap
in our 10+ years of ownership of the civic its never had an alignment
:^ |
im going to have it aligned soon when i do the struts, my mum span around going round a roundabout at like 15mph
alot of round
its a good car for me to learn on considering its value of £300 and even if i do something wrong its probably still safer
i cant drive it though cause insurance companies hate civics
small, slow, cheap fwd cars are great for learning how to do things
cheaper for me to insure a e36, e46, s2000 than that civic
im considering buying a impact gun as im in the rust zone, hopefully i can get by with a breaker bar though
interesting how the left control arm assembly is cheaper than the right
i guess thats supply and demand since the left side is most likely to meet that sweet sweet kerb
If we're being honest.
It's not an issue of how thin the metal is.
Rather how it is shaped. But don't tell Tesla.
Me with 3 wheels alignment in 1 year
FYI might want to draw over the plates
I don't think anyone here is that evil.
I got a 12 incher
here’s my baby, 2003 Ford Explorer XLT, lmao
what are you implying about my ford explorer
🥵
oh nice
mines a rust bucket
but the engine is still going
it of nocking and it stalls sometimes but that’s not too hard to fix
U guys in the US should be very happy about your Insurance bill. Here in Austria I‘ll pay A LOT for my 911 997 GT3. Fucking x-pensive
157/mo for 2 cars at 21 lmao
Imagine "owning" a 997 911 GT3 and complaining about insurance
We can only dream bout these prices.
Considering the low prices in Germany....
it went down to 144 but then I switched one mr2 for another and it went back up
Over 1,2k monthly bill for a bmw 740d 2013, BMW Z3 Roadstar the „switchable“ licenseplate for the Porsche. In Austria we have the „NoVa - Normverbrauchsabgabe“. You basically pay 20% on top of the msrp. Wasn’t a good idea to vote the Green Party in the government...
Well Austria has low fuel prices
20% tax over MSRP? That's cute
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Dude it's true
how much does it cost
Last time I was there, fuel prices were like 40% less than here
Idk lemme check what I paid last year
It was like €1.05 or €1.10/liter
Well gas is down to about 2.10$ a gallon here

This is intended to compensate for the increased sales tax of 32% or 30% previously applicable in Austria (the so-called luxury tax) that was incurred when buying new vehicles.
I think NoVA sounds better than what was there previously...
Saw gas in Arizona for 1.50 and nearly 5$
At the same time
Had an economy car we traded in on a super saloon
They get about the same gas mileage
Pff Toyotas are all people need
Naa mate
Reliant Robbins are where it’s at
just bought it yesterday engine isnt in very good condition leaks everywhere
3rd hand btw
New seals all-around.
Get any less blurry photos?
I always take 259x194 images of a car
The best resolution
I've actually never seen a Fiat coupe
Oh look an RS Q8
Is that a Touareg 👀
Weh
I work at a Porsche dealership in Pittsburgh PA.
that car looks good
Not sus at all lol
Might swing by then,,
I've been to washington's dealer at tyson's corner mall
There a time machine at my pool
Wait you have, I live near there too
Oh
i live in central PA
St Louis lamborghini is probably the biggest dealer ive been to
£35 for a spring, and here was me thinking i was going to do both sides pre-emptively
Now this is sexy
is it tho
Complete overkill and probably not worth the money. But still eye candy imo
Some more pictures of my Audi A4 B5
Can't wait until I have it running and driving
oof
oof
Can't wait to do my timing belt......
Ooh rx7
Spinning dorito?
That's a Porsche 924
Or 944? I can't keep them apart
Regardless, both were manufactured at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm so, I get why Porsche fans say those aren't "real" Porsches
I can't even see pictures because my internet is so bad
I almost bought a 944 one time
guys if you live in the usa and want a skyline r34, just come to bahrain
they are legal there
in the whole ME
ans supras and silvias too
Special for Arabs
lambos suck
They will add twin turbo and 2000HP
Ferrari guy I see
Mic is mounted at the rear, hard to get a perfect balance of volume not being blown out vs. having wind noise but I did my best.

Noise.
it is crep
The best sound of antilag, brutal flames and burnouts 🔥
fresh
😌
fuck lambo and ferrari and porsche
Mclaren and bugatti too
GT-R and Supra 2jz
I cannot stand fart can exhausts
Supra fanboy
The 918 though...
lol but u must be able to drive it my car is a time bomb
Looks fine to me, everything just needs to be buffed out.
there is litterarily no brakes u have to put it in reverse to stop
well i wish mine becomes like that too
Fellow A4 B5 owners here is a haynes manual on how to put the car into the service position
Yeah
I also like Golf and Lancer Evo
Wait
Ford had heated frond windshield since the 70s?
Or it was rolls Royce
Cadillacs have had heated windshield washer fluid for a while. Gotta say it’s nice in the snow
Are they on all the time or is there like a button/sensor to detect if the condition's too cold?
Was originally silver
And got wrapped in that red color
I didn't know that existed
Fanboyism
I don’t get it
A tuned Supra can only go crazy fast in a straight line and maybe do well on a track
Supra was never meant for drag
But saying a car pushing 2,300 pounds of downforce is “shit”
Yeah it was meant to be a fun to drive sports car
Fr
yeah i'd prefer the original color
Wasn’t the liquid metal silver like a $65000 paint option
We’re talking about a million+ dollar car, so I wouldn’t be surprised
Same, dunno why he wrapped that in that red colour
Linus Car Tips
ya
Honey actually being useful for once thanks linus
Taking bets how likely is it that I am going to spill coolant everywhere
need bigger jug
should've opened the cap to relieve the pressure?
Car hasn't run in 12 years
Very unexpected
Also this coolant looks a little dirty
Sliding the front off
I should probably flush my coolant sometime.
I flushed mine last week
I haven't had mine flushed in a year and a half.
I'm surprised that mine has cracked. Supposedly common on the E46.
rust repair
I'm doing my timing belt because I don't want to risk it
It might be fine but the car sat for 12 years soo...
Don't want to nuke the engine
New fenders required
jesus
We're in
some old 80's audis can look deceivingly modern
nah he's posted more assembled pics
its def at least early 2000s if not newer
ah, searched his posts
its a 97
still oof
late 90s German luxury car with mech fan while mid 90s Japanese econobox has efan? yikes
That fan is holding us up too
An Allen bolt rounded off
It has one electric fan and the one mechanical fan
Idk about that one chief
But for a $500 car it's pretty good
even if it was mint idk
ngl, that wood looks fake.
Still $500
Let's hope it runs for less.
It will
It just needs the tank drained and some injector cleaner
Timing belt is fine but don't want to risk it
It ran when parked
And then 12 years of storage combined with being German hits.
Running and driving are two different things. You know that.
Had a bunch of maintenance done before it was parked
And I honestly hope it WILL be fine.
Disassembly the entire front end should make cars automatically work.
Yes definitely
lol
That alternator and AC compressor placement kills me.
There is an air duct that comes from the bottom of the bumper to the alternator for airflow because yes
Lmao
No joking. The E39 I believe it was... water cooled alternator.
Maybe the newer ones got better? It's hard to get more convoluted than this tbh.
The main reason I bought this car is because I want to drive an older truck but I don't want it to rust in the winter
I think you forgot your glasses
You've gone for the single most difficult route of winter beater.
My respect for that.
Cheapest non pile of rust on Craigslist
Most people just blow 500 on a Pontiac Grand Prix, with the G having fallen off.
It'll run for a couple of winters. Three if you don't mind the suspension coming losoe at the end of year 3.
That's my plan once I get my own place... or find a heated garage.
It isn't the snow around here its the salt
Store the 'rolla, drive a truck in the winter.
I'm not willing to leave my current car in sub zero weather for 5 months.
Where do you live
Need to hit up the car wash this weekend. Roads are finally salty.
Illinois
Just gonna do frequent washes.
Idk why but people say that the audis don't really corrode
Depends on the Audi.
That watercooled alternator was in the V8/V12 BMW late 90's early '00, like the E39 but also Range Rover, E38, X5, Morgan Aero 8 (V8) and E38 & RR Silver Seraph (V12)
Higher end 90s and onwards are aluminum.
The lower ends are steel... and they'll rust.
It actually lasted longer in general than regular alternators
Alternators are supposed to be lifetime parts.
But I have a very high spec a4
It was a carolina car
Don't think the alternator is a lifetime part, it wears
Guy brought it to Illinois when he moved and didn't want it to rust
yeah, clearly. lol
altenator get angery if your battery is low all the time aswell
Parked it and it sat in his garage for 12 years
I feel the same.
so unlikely to be a lifetime part unless the owners are very careful
I'd park my Corolla for all of winter if I could get away with it.
when your struts rust away before they leak :^ |
They generally live long but not the entire life of a car
This is my first vehicle that would be able to be a daily driver
Oof the Mazda life
As far as the million mile frontier went. 450k for the alternator to get swapped.
This is one of the other vehicles that I own
theres literally a hole in the spring seat
I am the God of rust
us be like still road legal tho
More or less
My other registered vehicle is a firetruck
From 1975
No rust with 15k original miles
if it was here itd look like this
Chernobyl
Coal fired powerplant, so no.
Close enough
Pretty sure coal puts out more pollutants. :v
i was about to say lol a plate just for style
lol
then i realised it had been blored
Imagine having a ND front plate for swagger
I really wish the US did euro style plates for the front at least.
Linus Car Tips
I wish we didn't need front plates
That would be ideal.
apparently you guys dont buy cars when the front plates been drilled on from the dealer
I might get a side mount for the plate.
That is the OEM position for the front plates for the Corolla.
I hate it.
cars look different without plates
Have you ever seen an f150 with a plate not side mounted on the oem bracket
So yeah. Plans are to eventually get a side mount for the front. Should look a bit better.
Depends on the F150. I think the ecoboosts have a side mount.
They do but I have seen people center mount plates on those
nice to have that option.
i hate how tucked in the back wheels look
If I do buy one, I'd have to buy a semi-sketch after market mount.
need to toss on some spacers ;^)
i didnt know the tie rod end on the civic was mounted to the strut initially :^|
going to be fun getting that out without damaging it
on my mazda it connects to the knuckle
Yesterday I towed a car by the steering rack because smart
At least I think it was the steering rack
I just threw a chain on it
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71UEDv001BL._AC_SL1300_.jpg Kinda want this, but still.
Not sure I want to risk it.
I'd have to do some measuring to make sure nothing is blocked.
The hardest part about working on my A4 so far was removing the front bumper
I used to have an A4 too
What generation
Nice, I like the look of older audis a lot ngl
Mine shares a lot of parts with a Passat lol
That's the VAG way.
Parts bin to save on costs and make that $$$
(not that the rest don't do this)
i might cut the strut a bit if i struggle to get the tie rod end out, really dont want to damage it
mazda clearly has better design smh
Do you know the fastest way to remove a rod from an engine
You have it all wrong
You must drain the oil
And then rev it as high as possible
I prefer to keep my block intact, thank you.
Wait 5-10 minutes and it will prefer an automatic removal
My insurance doesn't cover con rod to the face.
Why am I looking at the engine? How else am I supposed to make sure it comes out?
I am a master mechanic
I am lazy.
Time to get funky. Ordering a different switch for my fog lights, and ordering a bluetooth module, for the Prius
Gonna also order a Haynes manual, primarily for the wiring diagrams.
Gonna need to see where interior lighting wires are to splice into for the switches/bluetooth
and find something ignition switched to power the bluetooth
so umm the ol mini managed to make a bid for freedom
