if i put poly bushes on my car my insurance would probably class it as a suspension modification and say my policy is invalid at which point i get charged with driving without insurance and lose my license

ember dove
#

Wtf

#

Coilovers are on the short list of shit to buy for it once I'm in NY

charred depot
#

this is full throttle

charred depot
#

the best part of mazda 2 ownership is it will be hard to buy anything slower in the future

ember dove
#

I still haven't got to race a miata

charred depot
#

id love to get a miata but not being able to do mods easily ruins it for me

ember dove
#

Lame

charred depot
#

hardest part of modifying your car in the UK is dealing with insurance companies

#

if you are willing to pay like £6k/y for a miata in insurance its easy but getting a good price is alot of calling

ember dove
#

No insurance or official has ever looked at any car I've ever owned for any reason

charred depot
#

they dont look at it but if i was involved in a accident regardless of fault

#

my policy would be invalidated

ember dove
#

I take that back the insurance of someone else sent someone to appraise damage

charred depot
#

ill live with a underpowered ecobox over loosing my license

fathom socket
#

I did race someone

#

from 0-50 kmh sadly

#

my car be like

ember dove
#

It'd be cost and time prohibitive to hunt down a full set of oem replacement proper rubber bushings for my mr2

fathom socket
#

not enough grip

charred depot
#

theres a point where you exit a roundabout on my route home from uni where 2 lanes go into 1 like 200m after the roundabout exit.

#

lots of races happen there, only won against a bus

ember dove
#

Lmao

#

I matched an rx8 in a roll race in my 3

#

But also it had a blown side seal

charred depot
#

always getting passed by fiestas and golfs

#

rx8's go for pennies here but cost tonnes in road tax cause of emissions and fuel actually costs something here

ember dove
#

I'd buy one but I have other priorities

#

I do want doritos a v8 or a turbo next tno

charred depot
#

my choices are pretty limited as i have to play into what insurance likes

ember dove
#

18 with a day old license it was 180 a month for a 97 miata

charred depot
#

they despise old honda civics lol

ember dove
#

Wack

#

The state needs to throttle insurance people and get that shit under control lmao

charred depot
#

Honda S2000 a ok, honda civic 2002, give us your entire bank account.

#

oh and with the civic they have to put a black box in

ember dove
#

I'm having none of that

charred depot
#

yeah i bought the mazda 2 which costed me £1000 in insurance for the year which is as cheap as it gets

ember dove
#

I get a multi car discount lmao

charred depot
#

like i ran quotes for hundreds of cars

ember dove
#

It's less money to insure 2 cars than 1

charred depot
#

they require so much information here, my job, parents jobs where the cars going to stay at night etc

#

pita to do

ember dove
#

Unacceptable

charred depot
#

£1000 with my parents as named drivers like £1500/y without

#

even though they dont drive it having them named helps

#

multicar doesent work out that well for me

#

one companies really cheap for the mazda 2 and another company is cheap for say a bmw E36

#

the discount from having them both with the same company wouldnt be good enough

ember dove
#

When I say less money I mean it like literally

#

My bill goes down by 20$ if I have 2 cars

charred depot
#

wish it was that good here

ember dove
#

But it did go back up like 15$ when I changed vehicles again

charred depot
#

been putting panels in the attic to move stuff from the garage so i can fit a car in there in prep for a shitbox e36 i plan to obtain

ember dove
#

I get to pay like 1000$ to have my mr2 towed to ny and then I won't drive it until it stops snowing

charred depot
#

advantage of the uk being so small towing is pretty easy and cheap to get done

ember dove
#

Yeah it's like a 1300 mile trip

charred depot
#

even if you are going from like bottom to top of UK ignoring all the pointless bits its like 300 miles

ember dove
#

Jeeze

#

That's where I am to tampa I ld drive that at the drop of a hat

charred depot
#

i cant get temp insurance for cars more than like 18 years old sadly

#

have to get a full on policy and cant drive a car if it doesent have a valid MOT :^| makes it annoying for shitbox acquriing

ember dove
#

Every running car I've ever bought I drove home uninsured with no plate besides my 3

#

Not exactly legal but yknow

charred depot
#

the consequences of getting caught is yikes here

#

and every police car in my area has ANPR

#

here plates stay with the car so any car without plates is getting pulled over.

ember dove
#

I got pulled over one time

#

I just handed him the title and he was like "ok be safe"

charred depot
#

i wish

ember dove
#

I drove my Miata around with the registration and insurance for my older.miata for like 2 weeks

civic spoke
#

I was out going through a drive-through one time at like 1 am. Decided to take a detour and take a really round-about way to get to the office.

ember dove
#

Then again with my explorer

civic spoke
#

So I was stopped at a narrow-ish road by a police car once.

ember dove
#

But I got insurance for that

civic spoke
#

They only really asked me for license and whose the car were (mine).

charred depot
#

here they pretty much already know if you have insurance or not by the time they get to your window

civic spoke
#

Oh, I was also stopped on the day of my job interview last year.

ember dove
#

I got stopped going to an interview once

civic spoke
#

Left our street at 5 am, when a cop car was doing a u-turn in the middle of the street.

ember dove
#

Turned right around and went back to my current job with a ticket lmao

civic spoke
#

I turned out, ahead of them, and they lit me up.

charred depot
#

my friend bought a car with a drug marker that for some reason doesent reset when the car gets a new owner.

#

kepts on telling him they could smell drugs every time they stopped him lol

civic spoke
#

I haven't been stopped in over a year and a half now. Something like that.

#

No alco tests, no nothing.

charred depot
#

ive never been stopped

#

neither have my parents

ember dove
#

I don't think I've been stopped since the beginning of this year

civic spoke
#

Helps that I'm leaving for work before 5 am. And that I get home during rush hour.

ember dove
#

I fully expect to get a ticket in NY tho

civic spoke
#

I guess it also helps that I keep my car somewhat clean.

#

Not really any broken lights or anything.

#

Apart from the license plate light.

ember dove
#

I'm absolutely getting pulled over when I start driving the mr2 in spring

charred depot
#

know someone that got pulled over for being a dumb ricer with his fog lights on for no reason

ember dove
#

Are you not allowed to drive with your foglights on

civic spoke
#

Fog lights + Low beam is a no no.

charred depot
#

if theres no fog no allowed

#

police absolutely hate it here

ember dove
#

My car won't turn on the foglights without the low beams

#

Which isn't how they fucking work

#

I drove at night a lot and maybe 40% of cars on the road in florida have their brights on

civic spoke
#

"They are auto. The blue light on the dash just means that my lights are on."

ember dove
#

I also see a car a week with no tail lights or using drls as headlights

#

With no tail lights

civic spoke
#

I see that on the daily.

charred depot
#

the roads are narrow here i hate when people are so shit at turning off their high beams quickly

civic spoke
#

I drive up behind them, flash my brights, and then turn off/on my low beam.

ember dove
#

Even more cars with just no headlights on at night

charred depot
#

worst is when its a big suv in the middle of the narrow road with its high beams on and you cant see shit

ember dove
#

I had led lights in my explorer and I feel bad lmao

charred depot
#

got blinded by a new bmw mini, dont think it had high beams on though

ember dove
#

New car headlights are just had

#

Bad

civic spoke
#

I really want to get projectors with LED bulbs.

ember dove
#

But so are old car headlights

#

I can't see shit in my 3

civic spoke
#

My lights are pretty craptastic.

#

I want to get LED bulbs all-around.

charred depot
#

you better have projectors

ember dove
#

I had full LEDs in my Miata and I can't wait to do it again

charred depot
#

haha led go in reflector housing xd

civic spoke
charred depot
#

anyone that puts leds in refecltor housings should burn in hell lol

ember dove
#

I'm gonna properly aim my bulbs in my 3 and mr2

civic spoke
#

Not before their retinas burn.

ember dove
#

If I can put bulbs in my mr2 with retaining rings that aren't loose

charred depot
#

i had really shit mismatched cheap halogen bulbs that i changed out for philips racing visionTM and its like a mile difference

ember dove
#

As terrible for everyone else the bulbs were in my explorer I could see everything it was great

charred depot
ember dove
#

I miss plowing over medians and ditches

civic spoke
#

I either just want to get nice halogen bulbs.

#

Or do a projector retrofit.

charred depot
#

why does it seem like the US hates projectors

ember dove
#

I got no idea

charred depot
#

they seem to avoid using them at all costs lol

civic spoke
#

Going the projector route makes sense, since I am also going to replace my lenses with new ones.

charred depot
ember dove
#

Coming to blind cops near u

indigo coral
#

I did a naughty and put LEDs in my reflector housing

civic spoke
#

A kit of retrofit reflectors is like €200 for me.

indigo coral
#

because my old bulbs were copmletely dangerous

charred depot
ember dove
charred depot
#

oh god

ember dove
#

That was

#

Low beam

charred depot
#

looks like someones ignited their collapsed sun

ember dove
charred depot
#

i hate when vans with their shittly aimed reflector headlights tailgate you on the motorway

#

trying to look in your mirror to see if you can move out, forget about it

civic spoke
#

Loaded trucks, that haven't re-aimed their lights.

ember dove
#

I had ebay housings too

charred depot
#

ah yeah apparently in the US you guys dont have that thing to dip your headlights when you have weight in the back

#

even my mazda 2 has it.

#

our old 2002 shitbox civic has it too

ember dove
#

My friend is still using that combo lmao

charred depot
#

could fit 2 mazda 2's in those parking spaces heh

ember dove
#

How quickly would I be arrested driving around with 1 foglight

charred depot
#

in the UK? second a police car drives past

ember dove
#

I've also got non standard wheels don't tell

charred depot
#

my old insurer wouldnt let me change the alloys

#

was like 80% through the policy so couldnt cancel as needed to build no claims

ember dove
#

Unbelievable

charred depot
#

the thing rides horribly with its stupid low profile tyres so wanted to put on smaller alloys

ember dove
#

What's the size?

charred depot
#

195 45 R16 so not really low profile

#

but there could certainly be more profile

ember dove
#

Ah

#

Just put bigger tires on lmao

charred depot
#

costs me £400/y extra if i put 205's

#

was going to go to 205 something R15

ember dove
#

Ofc insurance cares about tire size jfc

charred depot
#

oh youd love this

#

you have to declare stickers

ember dove
#

Move here

charred depot
#

especially if they indicate performance

ember dove
#

What a scam

charred depot
#

if they indicate performance and your car gets stolen your insurance can go nah your fault lol

#

they stole it cause of that sticker

ember dove
#

Insurance using the "look what she was wearing" defence

charred depot
#

rates also go up for non fault claims :^|

#

someone rear ends you while you are stopped, haha your insurance goes up £100/y because you are clearly a risk to society

#

much worse if you are found at fault but still

#

you didnt have to pay out a penny

ember dove
#

My accident was deemed 50% my fault and nothing increased and I got paid without totalling the car lmao

charred depot
#

any accident even 50% my fault would ruin me for the next 5 years

ember dove
#

I crashed my explorer the first day it was legally on the road

#

Got 3x what I paid for it and then drove it 20000 more miles

charred depot
#

sounds like heaven

ember dove
#

And then I sold it for exactly what I bought it for xD

charred depot
#

our civics been rear ended many of times but weve never claimed as its not worth it

ember dove
#

I kinda had no choice i totaled the other car and a police report was filed

#

But free 1400$

charred depot
#

even though its clearly not our fault the claim can be disputed and put into limbo for ages driving both drivers rates up

ember dove
#

Brand new car too 😎

#

0 owners! 2019 in 2018

charred depot
#

yup i certainly cant afford to do something like that

ember dove
#

Clearly not my fault

#

And dealership network insurance

charred depot
#

just gonna run some quotes now

ember dove
#

I should send that to one of those accord meme pages

charred depot
#

if i did that id be paying £400/y extra which is less than i thought but its a mazda 2

#

would affect all my policys too

#

for next 5 years

ember dove

I would've tbones them if I was speeding or they crossed the lane slower

All of the ones around me are between 29-34k. If I’m buying one, it’s going to be low mileage. I won’t buy one over 50k miles.

#

And if I’m buying an RS, it’s gotta be that light blue (don’t remember the color name)

flint sable
#

Nitro blue!

#

I love it

#

All of the ones under 26k are high mileage anyway

full bough
#

Yeah, so I’m looking at like $30k. Or I could buy an ST for like $19k and have some work done and still be cheaper

#

I saw an ST on Carvana for like 19,950 with 34,xxx miles on it. It’s white though, but it still looks pretty good.

flint sable
#

We went for the fiesta ST because of the driving school

But

The dude across the street has a focus ST

And it’s really cool

#

Tough decision.

There’s also a private seller nearby who has a low mileage 300zx twin turbo for a decent price. I’m not a tuner guy really, but that would be one I would drive.

#

It just wouldn’t have all the creature comforts an RS or ST would have

flint sable
#

Oh sweet!

The fiesta was a little small for us so we traded it in on a wayyy different car

full bough

But I’m more a muscle car guy. If I’m going to be extra, I think I want to be extra in a V8. Which is also another reason why I’m leaning towards the ST instead of the RS. Since it’s considerably cheaper and I plan on having something more fun later anyway

31k is a lot for a second car that will get driven mostly on weekends.

I think its compression or injector/lift pump problems. Still got white smoke. After the temp gauge got to normal temp

do you slipstream in your truck or are you a stinky environment destroyer

You don't know why Ford made the Mach-E? They're going to shift as many of them as they can make

#

Electric cars are the future, and the Mach-E is, I would argue, the best non-Tesla

#

What do people want from electric cars? Good range, good accelaration. What do people generally want from cars at that price point? Nice interior, high ride, engaging drive, reasonable cargo room

#

If it had a bigger trunk it'd argue be a better car than the Model Y. As it is it has a good practical SUV/hatch trunk, it's probably better through the corners than a Model Y if not quite as quick or as far reaching. 300 miles EPA is plenty of range, and the versions that are out can do 0-60 in 5 seconds which is Golf R territory and more than anyone needs

#

The only problem, really, is the pricing

#

It's not enough cheaper than a Model Y, or close enough to the ID.4 in price

#

if it was $5000 cheaper it would compare favourably to both those cars

#

but as it is, you save a lot of dosh going to the ID4 (gaining practicality but losing range, speed and driving engagement) and don't have to spend much more to get the Model Y (better range and practicality and at least as fast)

#

Even a $3k price drop would do it some good. The Long range RWD one is the best option, but it's a solid $12k more than an ID4 and only around 4-5k less than the AWD model Y. And that doesn't even take into consideration the Tesla charging network

stoic ledge
#

Tbh you can do that comparison with any car... You can better get a Toyota Sienna over a BMW 3er because it's cheaper and has better practicality but it's slower and drives worse... The Mustang Mach-e targets a different audience vs a ID.4

Also: Skoda Enyaq is the better ID.4

@eager grove people hate the mach e because they named it a mustang....

eager grove
#

They’re going to get cross shopped

#

I like the Mach-e way more than an ID4

stoic ledge
#

You forget the best selling car (and EV) in 🇳🇱 : the e-Niro Pogey

eager grove
#

But if it was my money, it’s hard to say it’s $12000 more car

stoic ledge
#

Which is also in that range

eager grove
#

That’s true! Which is dumb because my Dad drives that one

#

😂😂

stoic ledge
#

😂

eager grove
#

If I could convince myself to spend the extra money though, I’d get the model Y

#

Otherwise I’d get the e-Niro or the enyaq if I really needed the trunk space

stoic ledge
#

I would never ever ever get a Tesla Pogey

eager grove
#

I just can’t see a scenario where the Mach-e is the better car

#

That’s fine. But even if you take out the vastly superior charging infrastructure, the Model Y LR AWD has the best specs of any electric car on the market

#

At its price point

stoic ledge
#

Dealer service would probably be a major appeal for many people around here, Tesla store is 60 miles away where a Ford dealership is literally everywhere, and you don't have to deal with some of their ridiculous no-3rd party repair nonsense

#

Tbh, what I think Tesla should do: sell drivetrains to other car manufacturers

eager grove
#

True

#

It’s the batteries that are the main thing, but yeah. Having a Tesla skateboard would make so much sense

stoic ledge
#

Yes 👀

#

Same

eager grove
#

@stoic ledge it would be sort of amazing to see what other manufacturers could do with a Tesla skateboard. They could have different sized ones, it would be amazing. My guess is they make more money with prestige and on the rest of the bits than they do on the skateboard

#

I'd wager that the margin of the cars is entirely on the rest of the car and the skateboard

#

is essentially sold at cost

hazy hatch
#

all is great with electric cars but charging infra at many places is below par and i dont see the scenario changing soon

eager grove
#

Depends where you are

hazy hatch
#

yeah i agree

eager grove
#

and the range of your car, in the UK they seem to have charging points at most motorway service stations

hazy hatch
#

i guess i should shift to norway

eager grove
#

I've done the maths - if I had a 250 mile range car, then my number of stops, in the UK, on long journeys wouldn't change at all

hazy hatch
#

really

eager grove
#

and there are enough fast chargers that as long as I did like a few minutes of planning I'd be fine

#

I have two small kids

hazy hatch
#

that's great

eager grove
#

so I never drive 250 miles without stopping

charred depot
#

where i am in Scotland havent seen many charging points

eager grove
#

and if I was going to do a 400 mile + trip I'd stop twice

hazy hatch
#

i like driving long distances but i always take a break after 100 miles or so

eager grove
#

exactly

#

I'd just make sure to plan my journey such that meal times are stop times

#

if I was doing a long journey

hazy hatch
#

@charred depot that is the main problem

eager grove
#

And the thing is

#

if you can charge at home

charred depot
#

i can safely say a good amount of people cant

eager grove
#

then the vast majority of the time, it's more convinient, not less

hazy hatch
#

i dont have kids and i mostly travel alone hence i dont make such calculations

charred depot
#

if people were to get electric cars here the charging network would have to grow drastically

eager grove
#

If you break after 100 miles you probably wouldn't even notice having to stop for charging either

#

but again, in your day to day life, you never have to go to a gas/petrol station ever.

hazy hatch
#

but i wonder if the production of electricity is enough

#

and are there enough projects down the line to enable us with such amount of electricity

eager grove
#

It'll have to increase for sure. BUT if you get electric cars that can push out electricity instead of just draining it
