As it is it has a good practical SUV/hatch trunk, it's probably better through the corners than a Model Y if not quite as quick or as far reaching. 300 miles EPA is plenty of range, and the versions that are out can do 0-60 in 5 seconds which is Golf R territory and more than anyone needs

The only problem, really, is the pricing

It's not enough cheaper than a Model Y, or close enough to the ID.4 in price

if it was $5000 cheaper it would compare favourably to both those cars

but as it is, you save a lot of dosh going to the ID4 (gaining practicality but losing range, speed and driving engagement) and don't have to spend much more to get the Model Y (better range and practicality and at least as fast)

Even a $3k price drop would do it some good. The Long range RWD one is the best option, but it's a solid $12k more than an ID4 and only around 4-5k less than the AWD model Y. And that doesn't even take into consideration the Tesla charging network

Tbh you can do that comparison with any car... You can better get a Toyota Sienna over a BMW 3er because it's cheaper and has better practicality but it's slower and drives worse... The Mustang Mach-e targets a different audience vs a ID.4

Also: Skoda Enyaq is the better ID.4

Agree with all of that. My point is that given it’s properties, it’s price point isn’t super compelling. I also think you’d be surprised what people cross shop. If I had $40k ish and was looking at electric family cars in 2021, the options are basically polestar 2, model 3, model Y, Mach-e, ID4, enyaq

Dealer service would probably be a major appeal for many people around here, Tesla store is 60 miles away where a Ford dealership is literally everywhere, and you don't have to deal with some of their ridiculous no-3rd party repair nonsense

I've done the maths - if I had a 250 mile range car, then my number of stops, in the UK, on long journeys wouldn't change at all
