i’m certain it exists for idiots who run allseasons in heavy snow (basically everybody here in michigan as far as i can tell)
whereas my fwd regal with some studded snow tires and like 5 inches of ground clearance can plow right past em
I only said the quality has dropped off and that older ones were the ones to buy. I also pointed out that you can't just blanket say they are most reliable today as they have had some major issues over the last while. They certainly are not the same company they once were.
You can't guarantee me that buying a Toyota made in the last 5 years will still be running fine in 20 years with their recent reputation
oh yeah i totally agree with ya there lol. the enshittification of everything on the market is real and it’s not just cars lol
Exactly.
in 20 years time there will still be quite a few cars with the 1.8 1zzfe in it on the road but i have a good feeling we won’t see as many new ones in 20 years
One of the more reliable ones night actually be Nissan since they are sticking more to tried and true and aren't implementing all this new tech and whatnot. Look at the frontier as an example. It's actually a very basic truck in this day and age.
their trucks are decently stout, and for the most part nissan can make a solid v6 at least, but i’ve heard their new 3cyls are pretty trash and their cvt’s are better but still not great
There are quite a few examples of 1 million mile Frontiers out there.
Yeah they have their weak spots.
I just won't be brand loyal say buy this brand. It's more like, what you looking for? Okay, now we can narrow it down to something that will suit your needs.
Because no one brand makes everything perfect for everyone.
yup there’s always a few good options out there
however it seems like if ya want a basic sedan in the u.s at least theres like zero now
That's a sad fact
very sad indeed
genuinely would have considered a sentra with the manual trans as a daily because i drive so much and they are so insanely cheap
USA should just build a rail system. I mean, they are the richest country right?
So why not?
If poor ass countries can do it, they should be about to
auto industry and the commercial freight industry has the govt by a chokehold
we used to have incredible passenger rail for the time period that is till the auto industry convinced our govt that we wanted to drive everywhere
Except now cars are almost unaffordable
and now amtrak (our insanely inefficient passenger nationwide rail system) has to run on freight rail lines and freight trains have priority so it takes forever and they’re expensive
Essentially making passenger systems trash tier
yup, and unfortanately the majority of americans have some insane car payments which just allows car companies to inflate their price even more, since most people sell them before they pay them off
yup :((
i’ve rode it once to chicago and i could have driven there faster lmao
also completely unrelated but i’m buying a new shitbox tomorrow for no reason
600$ plymoth neon 5speed manual lol
plus its a coupe
The SRT-4 still one of my favorite Cars ever for pure fun factor.
The company was legit having fun at that point in time
The closest Chrysler ever got to a proper performance NA engine
Oh wait
I read it wrong
It's not NA
15psi on a 2.4 litre and it only produces 230hp? In 2003? That's some impressively bad engineering
Cast crankshaft
Actually it had very impressive performance for the time
You couldn't get something that performed much better for the price. Those things had very good performance in 3rd gear in real world. My E36 M3 at the time would get pulled on by SRT-4s in 3rd gear. I'd pull on them in earlier gears but god damn those things were strong in 3rd
Also, ridiculously easy cars to tune
I was very good friends with a guy that had an SRT-4. He had his tuned where it would keep up with my Dinan Stage 2 BMW 335I. Those things were no joke
Good performance compared to the NA version of the engine? Sure
But that power from a 2.4 litre at that boost level in the 2000s? Lol.
Give me another option in rose days that's outperforms for the price
We are talking mid 20's.
Since you're so stuck on the price to performance.... I don't have a direct comparison for the time since I don't know the US market well but the Celica all-trac (st185 gt four) was in the $20k range in the early 90s. That's a 200hp turbo 2 litre at 11psi. AND it has AWD
In other regions it did 220-230ish
much better performance for the engine size
a more direct comparison but less power (because smaller engine and also NA) would be the 7th gen Celica GT-S
Which was in the 20ks around the time the neon was a thing
In the US it made 180hp, from a 1.8 litre NA
In other markets it made 190
This merits no response.
lmaooo
Thank you, try again
defeated
what are you smoking bud
Exactly what I'm thinking to you
I've been going on about how the engine is shit for its size the entire time
Try again
Clearly you accepted defeat
Seriously, the fuck are you smoking?
I can't give you a direct comparison because I don't know of any other good turbo cars sold in NA at that time
I know the Caldina GT-FOUR was around the mid 20s when converted from yen, and it absolutely stomps the neon's performance, but again, not sold in NA
Again, come back when you know what you're talking about
Not even close
We are not taking neon. We are talking SRT-4. Come back when you are ready to talk. Till then, have a good night
The SRT-4 slaps that GT-S celica like it's standing still
I'll gladly line up a GT-S vs SRT-4 ANY FUCKING DAY. Bring your GTS crap
Go smoke another one
When I say neon, I mean the srt-4 dummy, it's the only neon we've been talking about
You're the one smoking here
GT-S was slow as balls
I've raced many of those in my M3 those days and walked then like they standing still
Meanwhile the SRT-4 pulled on me
oh wow, your 3 litre inline 6 BMW beat a stock celica? Woooow
Obviously not a stock one lol
Oh wow we are talking stock? Yeah, we are. We wanna talk modded, it only gets worse for you Sir. Better stop now
You are
#cars message
Someone's highly offended I called their performance chrysler engine garbage
you're actually blind lmao
Right here
So better rethink what you're saying.
And again here
Never said it's garbage
Jfc you're absolutely fucking clueless
Yeah I'm done
My question for you
Learn to comprehend

Exactly my thoughts
You're either a troll or slow
@lone fern get a load of this
And yeah, a stock SRT-4
Seems you also forget USA E36's were only 240HP. And a lot heavier. The SRT4 was often producing 220-240 at the wheels!
really need to pick up the pace with this as my redundancy as far as cars go is not great at the moment and with the mileage I do these days I am playign with fire.
this is going to be my new main car I dont really have to care about but didnt want to get something easy.
My triumph dolomite has proven to not be a great choice for daily driving
pouring 2-3k into making a free parts car usable again and "fast" definitely is the best option
Never argued how brittle it was. But it still a performance bargain for it's time and the engine was underrated from the factory. Ain't nobody buying it for reliability like most performance oriented cars.
Lmao is it a thing to pay someone to model and source mods to replicate a vehichle you own irl?
As somebody that has owned both a heavily modified srt4 and a lightly modded 135i (and now a heavily modified 335i) the srt4 was NOT keeping up with the 135i or a nearly stock 335i
It was a fun car but they're on completely different levels
And I had a caliber srt4 not a neon
Closed deck and hybrid turbo so in theory it should've been making around the 350whp range?
My 135i was just ebay 17ts and tuned on e40
gm truck moment
tie rods? where we're going we don't need tie rods
20 years of tech will do that
its possible to make an SRT-4 neon keep up with modified modern BMWs, it just isnt cheap lol
takes more power than you'd think because modern cars are so good at delivering power to the ground
His SRT-4 was putting down 400 at the wheels. It was no joke
Once I got away from Dinan and went JB4 I would walk him
With all that being said, the SRT-4 couldn't be beat for it's price back in it's day.
Why would you not go mhd
Zero point in going jb4 unless you have actual work done
I had both. MHD backend flash+JB4. I went big single eventually
My srt4 was a 2008 and my 135i was a 2008
My 335i is a 2010
Same thing mechanically though
I went with that special cooling liquid I can't say in here plus E85 fuel as well
What fuel pumps did you run
Also why methanol and e85
Most people that run methanol only do it because they can't get e85
Upgraded LPFP. But I cannot remember at this point the brand sorry
What injectors
I did it mostly for consistency for intake temps
Not for fueling
What injectors
Port injection
the ole 30 year old tie rods did not like the boosted 4wd launch to pull someone out of a ditch lmaooo
legal zoomies on unrestricted autobhan in the miata. sadly couldnt get a good launch cuz of the truck approaching and couldnt go to the 200+ cuz of slow traffic
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/849300336128032792/1462866290556407838/miata_0_180_pull.mp4?ex=696fbfe6&is=696e6e66&hm=530206ebcaf7e8840085ad2d3ebf8f0c4057181bdae2568ce4ce98a42322b988&
bro theres no way you stopped on the road in front of a truck for this 😭😭😭
pretty sure that’s the semi truck lmao 😭
legal zoomies
Stopped in the middle of the fucking autobahn
did bro actually stop on a highway for this 💀
People don't seem to realize there are often service area and rest areas alongside the motorway, where you can stop without a problem and launch like this when it's clear
And from there, there's probably a truck approaching with some momentum, not wanting to stop for an MX-5 launch, hence the honking.
But that truck is likely approaching at like 30km/h
dude barely pulled out of his parking spot and was 200 meters back when he honked lmao
ND2 RF 2L
thinking with common sense is a thing most of the internet lacks lmao
here our highways aren't built like that to be fair
No, thats not how this works. The video is of a dashboard, there is no critical thinking that would lead anyone to assume anything but they just stopped on the road.
Especially given the honking of what sound like an approaching semi.
Posting this without clarifying was just stupid.
Then how was I able to figure it out?
Nobody will just stop on the autobahn
And 99% of these launches are done from something like a service area if you see these videos online
On the BAB3, there are plenty of them
9 iirc
cuz your apparently one of the few people that have some common sense 😂
where i’m from we don’t really have those which is why i thought you were stopped in the middle of the road/on-ramp
does this count as a car?
as a german i can confirm the traffic is ass on our highways
It's only logical to make assumptions based on what you already know. It's definitely not common sense to know how roads/infrastructure is designed in different countries if you've never seen it
You can also turn that around: why make assumptions about something when you don't know what you're talking about? 😛
If you come from a raststatte like this, you can always stop and launch safely. Often there's even a stop sign or give way sign just before the on ramp
It'd be cool to bring my bmw to Germany but I obviously don't have the money for that and would be crucified by the police there
I don't think a single thing on that car is legal there
I doubt you get the full roadworthiness standard put on you unless you want to register the car in germany
obviously general roadworthiness but not your suspension isnt tuv approved!!!
if not most people driving UK modified cars there would be hung out to dry
What do we think guys, BMW or jeep
A lot of it comes down to a bit of arrogance. A lot in North America think they are in the best country in the world, would never think any other country is better, and couldn't fathom living in another country. It's best just to ignore their thoughts as they clearly have no clue and never will.
i think i’d go with uneducated lol. Never left the country so it’s pretty uncommon to find rest stops/service areas in a lot of the u.s at least (there are quite a few but they’re so spread out i never think about em lol, although i’d love to have gas stations right along the highway because where i live they’re pretty sparce)
^ motorways here don't just have random things off to the side, only proper on and off ramps
that’s what i meant, with proper on and off ramps (I should have clarified that)
Fairly common in other countries I've lived in.
Even in Canada they were common where I was. Could find them all over
There's a good chance my tires aren't street legal over there
Otherwise idk what the rules are
They're common in the midwest
That's kinda what I remember as well.
I was pretty positive I saw many in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, etc
RBR best by far.
But to be far only the VCARB is none show car. I doub't the RBR actually car will look as good.
you never know, though I'm not sure if it'll be gloss
I like the haas and RB most
I don't really remember any in Utah but I was also in rural Utah so it was just highways
No interstate
Isn't that bad, 810km range and at a price point at $75k it's not bad at all.
65k for the cheapest and 75k for the highest
To expensive base model starts at like €9k more then loaded ID.7 Pro S. But it will still sell well in Sweden because its Volvo like current XC60 is top seller even if its outdated and overpriced.
It looks kinda stupid when the logos on the tires are perfectly aligned
return of the MR2
The G20E test car was enough of a confirmation
Corolla and Yaris for the G16E, Celica and MR2 for the G20E 😎
hmmm what 2nd car could use an G30E so that an all Toyota Supra can exist again
G20E looks impressive
What, you don't like the BoyoMWa Zupr4?
Never said a thing about it
EX60 Ultra P12?
Do people actually need the biggest battery tho?
Nice to have
Right now I have 130km range.
But it is also one of the cheapest EV's on the market at under $25k new
Even the P6 and P10 have like 600 km of range. Which is a fair bit.
Claimed 660 km for the P10. And you save a whole lot of $$$ without many downsides other than the battery size, P12 claims to add 150 km's.
I'm curious how their charging curves look like.
370 kW is fine and dandy. But doesn't mean much if it only does it for a minute before shitting the bed.
is the smoke normal
Sunshine trough the tire smoke
what
you got a toy bro
not a car
130km range 😭
Yea, it's cold outside. When its summer I have around 180-190
It is also in its 5th year on the road.
Who's seen the 20th anniversary bugatti veyron
Oliver Solberg leads Monte Carlo Rally by a healthy 44.2s
Who thought it was a good idea to give me solidworks
Everyone in the USA seems to drive 150km one way to work and take 1000km road trips weekly.
Basically. Or at least that's what they think they are doing.
Despite it not even being close in reality. I had my aunt track her real mileage and it was more like 5 mile commutes on average with the occasional 100 mile trip
average american drives like 15k miles per year
So like 40 miles a day. So... Even a leaf is plenty for the average American
And a leaf can be had for $10/month, no joke
Average American spends more than than in coffee per day
But as usual they buy for the 1% of things they do, instead of the 99% of things they do
yeah
the ford f150 has been the best selling vehicle in america for literally like 65 years straight
its crazy
They sure do love spending money they don't have
My commute was only ~40 miles but it was all highway so it wasn't terrible
Right now I'm doing a roughly 450 mile round trip every weekend which is not exactly ideal
And do you drive 450 miles constant without a single stop? If so, you Sir are a legend in terms of bladder control and must have an insanely comfy ass
Round trip so ~225 miles each way
Okay 225 is still pretty long
When I still did some towing for people I'd do trips like that though
Even a 10-15 minute stop is reasonable to asdume
I'd pick up whatever the item was and turn around without making other stops
The most I've done was around 1000 miles in two days I think
Maybe three days
Your vehicle must've been a big rig though. Towing, I find out hard to believe you get much more than 200 miles per tank
It was just an f350
With the 38 gallon tank
I don't have that truck anymore though
Kind of regret selling it but I didn't think I needed it anymore
I would like another f250 or f350 eventually but the market is terrible
Maybe go 450. Bigger is better right?
I don't need an f450
I've thought about a dually but I haven't had a need to tow fifth wheel trailers
I'd just be more fuel and tires
Few NEED a 350 but then you see a lot driving the kids to school and bringing home the groceries
This was the truck
This is the American culture in a nutshell. A fucking Kei truck could do most of the work Americans do. I kid you not. But no, we need an F150+
Actual beauty
Right now I just have cars and a couple small trucks
I do have one truck that's technically bigger than that but it's mostly just for show now
I need to put my bmws back together
Tuning
tuning?
Tu3 / Tu5 diesel
Will be more hassle than it's worth to change the fuelling on that Lucas pump given no boost, Tu5 diesels do go great with a turbo fitted but they are very hard to get ahold of these days to be risking blowing up
Added more fuel
And there will be new intake
Feels a bit quicker
there will probably be a swap for TDI in the future
1.4 from older polo
this may be a long shot, but is anyone here a Cayman GTS 4.0 owner ? 2020 - 2025 ?
my dad and i did a cross country trip in a fiesta and we'd make 600 miles on a good day
I do this when driving the length of the UK pretty much no stopping
My brother has pulled 980 miles in a bit under 12 hours. I'm not that crazy. I took about 21 hours for basically the same drive.
6 was sleep at a rest stop where I got woke up by someone going around begging for cash for gas.
I just drink too little or forget to drink in general
tud5 with 300k kilometers
ive been hoovering up XUD9TE engines so I have enough kicking around to last multiple lifetimes
we are planning engine swap or supercharger
supercharger is cheaper
for swap we need a vw polo and custom mounts for everything
they go well with a supercharger there was one used at track days here but if you pop the engine they are harder to get ahold of than XUD9TE's
amr500 wont flow nearly enough, sure it was a mercedes clk supercharger that was used
if you dont care about fuel economy I would just fit a petrol TU5 and use a manifold from the newer prince engines to turbocharge it
you'll get a BE gearbox that bolts onto a TU from a Citroen Picasso which will be a upgrade and handle all the power you need.
Remember to give the car a good clean after driving around that area.
It was traded in for something else in 2019
There are couple engines for sale
in Poland you can find random shit for sale
im already looking for a turbo kit for my project car and i didn't even drive it yet with the new engine

If you ever wondered.
"How are the roads like during Rally Monte Carlo"
by now i'm sure everyone heard about/read about this auction from this past week that got pulled down. Some of the pics really make you scratch your head and wonder https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-cadillac-deville-21/
don't put your auction pics through AI then don't bother to look at the results, people!
I knew Cleetus would put the Big Block BMW through its paces… but I definitely didn’t expect it to let go. All part of the learning process!

@lone fern I wrote the fuckin OBS off 😭
Long shift, was too tired and dozed off. Ended up hitting a tree
Frame is toast
I am ok, she did her job and kept me alive
Zoomies with the new muffler and the valve open
FUCKKKKKK NOOOO
😭
hope you’re alright though man, falling asleep on the road is the most terrifying thing especially after working long shifts n shit
So I’m looking at getting some new wheels, be either a VW Touran or a Skoda Octavia (off chance of a Golf wagon)
I want a reversing camera, and it looks like it’ll cost roughly £600. The OEM part costs like £450+ on its own
But you can buy a reversing camera from Ali express for like £16, plus a converter kit that will apparently allow a reversing camera to work with the OEM infotainment for an extra hundred or so
What do you reckon? Pay the £600 or take a risk on £150?
gotta keep the bills payed you know
Car barely fits onto the driveway now and its not even lowered yet
"there's no reason to drive a big truck day to day"
and then mfs saying that struggle in 6 inches of snow meanwhile I'm still driving at 35 mph😭 😭 😭
big truck = heavy = digs into snow and ice = better traction = drives better in extreme winter conditions
A little fwd car with decent winter tyres will do wonders in snow.
to be fair my buick regal with studded snow tires will plow through the snow better than a lot of trucks
i’ve gotten “stuck” once this year after i plowed myself in lmao
pickups border on unusable in winter without appropriate tyres where we can get away with summers on FWD stuff.
if you arent carrying anything there just isnt enough weight on the back wheels
true, 4wd does alleviate that for the most part but ya still can’t stop great
if the snow is hard packed and not sheet ice I can do close to regular highway speeds and still be in control and able to stop whereas someone on shitty all seasons can’t
Invasive species
we dutchies invade everything
I’m pissed at myself. I knew I shouldn’t have been driving but yet I was anyway
By the time I came to I couldn’t do anything
I fuckin loved that truck
damn man :((( you don’t think it’s rebuildable?
shit happens, glad you’re good though, usually hitting trees in trucks as old as ours ends up much much worse
The frame is pushed back pretty good from what I could tell
She’s toast
I think the frame saved me though, it was centered pretty well right on the drivers side frame rail
Had that rail not been there, I wouldn’t be typing this
I literally just drive through snow
like the roads aren't even plowed yet
Duallys don't have that issue nearly as badly, they have much worse steering on solid ice with no snow fyi, they won't dig the outer tires into the ice and steer like shit if it's solid ice
and I've got summer tires on got no problems steering and braking at 35-40 mph
contact patch makes very little difference in the situation you describe, infact narrower is often better.
if you can comfortably drive at 40mph with summer tyres in a pickup the conditions aren't really that bad.
where my unit is there is a lot of dually rwd recovery trucks coming and going they cannot use the access road once unloaded.
ye ik lol my car does just fine through that
we got a foot today so my car did a bit of snowplowing but it made it lol
good tires helps a lot
The cab is tweaked too
I’m not sure if my grandpa is going to get another pickup.
And even if he does it won’t be the same as this one
I may snag a hubcap off it tomorrow since my parents won’t let me take the taillights
oh jesus that was a harddd hit man
I have never actually seen a rwd dually
I know they exist because I've had the option to order them quite a few times but you usually get 4x4 optioned in by default on like the 2nd lowest trim
And then any trim a dealer will sell you has the full 4x4, not the shitty "4x4 on/off"
It's like 3/4 the height of my tires lol, I only have 18" tires because I'm NORMAL
granted its also a newer truck, I know my 2000 Sierra will just slide around on ice due to how much lighter it is
What
I see them all the time
People get them in 2wd more often because they have a higher towing capacity than the 4wd variant
Also I've had an almost 8000lbs truck slide off the road on A/Ts
With zero wheel speed
I've literally never seen that
my Sierra 3500 is 36000 lbs in 2wd, std 4wd and selective 4wd
I've seen it on gas 3/4 ton single rear wheel trucks but never on a dual rear wheel 1 ton
that's about what my 2000 Sierra weighs
my 2025 weighs slightly under 9000 pounds
Thing is, I didn’t even feel the impact. I just felt the pain in my neck after the fact
And there’s no seatbelt bruise on my chest either
My dad said it looked like I was airborne when I hit the hill
hey man ive seen some crazy rebuilds lmao it just gets expensive fast
prizzamike rebuilt his 240 after getting smacked pretty dang hard
even if you can't rebuild always can take a few parts to add into the next to keep it living in a way
Cold start XC90 t8
But why you revving the piss out of it when so cold?
They're not....
3k, cold engine, not a good idea in general
I know you're gonna give me all sorts of trash about how it's fine and people do it all the time and blah blah blah. But it's not the best idea to do that instantly.
oh no, they rev'ed the engine ones when it was cold ENGINE RUINED ITS TRAIGHT TRASH NOW
just shut up about shit like that, it wont do shit to the enigne. the only time it becomes a issue is if you do this on a daily basis
They showed it once in a video like it's fine. Indication they hink it's fine to do on a daily basis and probably do. Read between these lines Buddy
People in here aren't exactly educated mechanics that know exactly what's happening inside the cylinders when they do this
Sometimes it struggles maintain rpm when I start it so that why
And dont do it often I was just In a mood to be a bit sporty today
And it's my car not yours so like....
Well if only keeping for 3-4 years have at it. Drive it like you stole it, won't matter.
I change cars yearly we ball
Then drive it like you stole it. Redline that bitch the second you start it. Leave the problems to the next owner
Ye that why I do it
😞
That car has been through do many things
Last year was a brabus g wagon
That thing hauled ass but sold it
The amount that car was redlined
Is crazy
Like daily
I mean, I did that on my 335I too, but only once fully warned up
Completely different from a cold redline
I usually don't do It cold
Completely different from a half warmed redline
This here was warmed up
Nice stuff
Does anyone know if there's MIG welders you can run off a trailer plug? If not is there any good way to make a quick disconnect to hook one up in a truck bed (I've got 4/0 gauge wires already ran to the bed on my 2009 Sierra 3500 I just need to find a connector to drill into the bed and put in)
I just need to find something I can use for quick repairs on heavier equipment
I'm considering either welding together a tray I can pickup with my skid steer that'll mount to the 5th wheel bolt holes so I can take it in and out or just tying the welder down to the side of the bed walls
I know you can get little 160A welders n shit but I've seen stuff like Miller 252As being run in service bed trucks before and this one has all the wiring needed to provide 400A 12V already do those service bed trucks use a generator or something?
I would if the frame wasn’t bent as bad as it is. It smacked both frame rails and I don’t think any shop would be willing to take it on
It’s bad enough that it tweaked the cab too, I can’t open either of the doors
Cars aren't nearly as easy as trucks to do frame work on
unless it's like a Crown Victoria or Rolla
I think the PT Cruiser body comes off
And this truck isn’t even mine, it’s my grandpas
I used to have a RAM 5500 I did a pickup conversion on that was a LOT of frame welding
ended up destroying 3 driveshafts before I sold it it was just too fucking long 😭
and semi trucks have better turning radius
thank fucking god 27 year old me didn't have access to a fab shop or I WOULD have done what I wanted to do and copied the RAM long hauler concept to the T, I already had the mega cab on it just needed that 2ft bed extension
you'd probably have to replace structural parts of the cab tbh
unless it's an extended cab
they weirdly don't have any structural beam between the 2 doors
It’s an extended cab, and the front of the drivers side door is pushed away from the dash
The cab is toast
My grandpa said he’s just gonna send it to the junkyard to have parts picked off it before it gets crushed. As much as I don’t wanna see the Chevy I grew up around die this way, I can’t do much to salvage it
I gotta stop talking about it now or I’m gonna have another breakdown
Typically a generator, at least where I work
you can buy them as welder/generator combos so you don’t need another generator
they use a diesel gen/welder
I daily drive 40 year old cars and you know damn well I am flooring it as soon as it starts even if its -5
When I was driving one that the choke didnt really work so it had very little power from cold my driveway is quite steep so I would rev it up to 5000 dump the clutch make it a few meters repeat.
123,000 lbs between the truck and trailer. 56,000 kg.
I spy a Corsa C dash
Ah yeah those have the same cluster
a clutch dump a day keeps the mechanic away 😂😂😭😭
it have a lot of same parts as corsa
Same platform
More practical
Lpg
I want something with lpg
I had a Corsa D for 7 years with LPG
Slow, but very reliable and cheap to drive
And actually also quite nice to drive
yesterday I passed my driving test and now it's time for a car
LPG is nearly completely gone here unfortunately
Im sure my friend had a renault 4 with LPG fitted or something equally ridiculous and old.
LPG doesn't really make sense here anymore, previously LPG was cheap + road tax was only slightly more
Now road tax is double and LPG is twice as much as before

Im kinda over this carb nonsense so I am thinking of converting my triumph dolomite to single point injection, cant be too hard.
or just dont use the dolomite as a daily driver in winter
Can't remember ever seeing a running and driving Dolomite
yeah its not been great although its not necessarily its fault
first time I have got a car recovered in like 4 years
I mean it broke down within 5 minutes of leaving the seller when I bought it so yeah
in poland it still makes sense
I just have a normal petrol Astra now
And the number of stations is rapidly declining, at least 7 in my area have disappeared in the past 5 years afaik
Here not many have disappeared yet tbh
But we didn't have that many to begin with
Our municipality has 4 fuel stations with 1 offering LPG
And it still does
But I always went to Belgium (ofcourse) and there all stations I used to visit for LPG in the border region still have it
reminds me of how there used to be one fuel station for hydrogen cars in my entire province because the government had bought a handful of Toyota Mirai. Years later that sole fuel station was shut down after the cars were either auctioned off or sold back to Toyota
BEVs make more sense anyways, but it was always interesting to me how there was literally only the one hydrogen fuel station
there’s someone trying to sell a mirai with a quarter of a tank here in michigan where you literally can’t get hydrogen for it lmao
only stations left are in california i think
it'll probably end up getting shipped off to Cali if someone buys it
it’s been for sale for like a year at this point 😂😂
Nice
Some custom shit
They only sold the mirai in california because they didn't want to build infrastructure elsewhere
There’s barely any here, and I think they’re all in the Bay Area
They were also a massive sales failure
That’s probably part of the reason
EV range test has been done. In -30c weather, the results are quite poor
It's sorted by the actual range achieved "2nd column"
-30 is also very cold 😛 Heat will always be an issue at that point, also just for the chemicals in the battery themselves
What are the "special conditions in the article text" for certain cars?
That's the WLTP estimate wich is under special conditions.
But certain cars also have an asterix ?
Grandland, #5 and 7X
I'm really surprised the Inster can do 256km, I just watched a video of a guy who drove one NL -> Berlin -> NL and he could barely do 200km between charges and averaged something like 21kWH/100km. It was cold, but not -30
Hmm and the Grandland?
Strange
Anyway should be sufficient 😛
I don't think people will take hundreds of kilometers of drives during -30 and heavy snow
We did also have a un usually cold shock this week.
Quite common for people here to drive to Lapland in winter when it can be that cold
But 300+ km is not too bad
Chat should i buy this
1995 NFI D60, Detroit Diesel Series 50, Allison B500R
it has the following problems: dead battery, dirty exterior, and engine power issues going uphill all of which are easily fixable
This thing is in excellent condition for its age
And best of all its only $3k for the whole works
Seats & everything
I legit cant find a better deal
And no im not converting it to an RV
I intend to fix a massive transit gap: Monroe, WA to Bothell/Woodinville
Extremely high demand for that route to exist, i know this because i travel it almost daily
Infinite money
im 100% deadass & serious
i even made a poll
The purpose of this form is to gather public input and opinions on a proposed shuttle bus running from UW Bothell/Cascadia College to Monroe P&R, with a stop at SR 522 & 132nd Ave NE Flyer Stop.
Expected frequency is once every hour, departing from Monroe P&R on the hour and from UW Bothell/Cascadia College half past the hour.
Vehicle to be use...
Can confirm with my i3. Range becomes a lot worse.
you got to remember they are not cheap to maintain
I am well aware of this and ive taken it into account
I will stop at nothing to get this bus, I want to make an absolute fool of Dow Constantine
Sound Transit will be in shambles watching me run laps around them
pro tip: if you live in the seattle area, fill out that form
CMT needs yo input twin
I had to pick up a 12 foot ladder with mine from the maintenance people at a job site I was on. They saw the car and was like "how are you going to get it there? I can grab the golf cart." I popped the top off and stuck it in. They laughed.
lmaoo yea ill take wood and stick it through the back window
the old guys at lowes are like "I have never seen nothing like that in my life"
I did that with my fishing poles when I used to go fishing a lot. I'd load up the tackle and cart and whatnot in the trunk and then stick the poles in the rear window with the bottom handle part tucked in behind the seat then roll the window up so the reel doesn't fit thru in case someone tried to lift one when I wasn't looking. It kinda made the car look like an RC. haha
Car spotting
Anyone here been to the BMW museum in München and was it worth it?
no
have you owned a heavy commercial vehicle before? its not like maintaining and owning a car
a $3000 bus is not a $3000 bus
theres a reason fleets replace their vehicles after 10-15 years
another trip with opel
Yes, it's nice
It's only BMW, you won't see much.
Well it's in the name hehe'
Maybe an Audi way too close
Do you have a cdl
And have you factored in commercial insurance or the cost of starting a business
Not at this current time but i am in the process of getting one
Yes i have, this is still cheaper in the long run
It also enables me to make fools of CT management because this is one of their old buses lmao
Also that thing probably needs a turbo at minimum
I plan on adding that later
I'll rip out the governer, add a tubrocharger and nitro system
Wait it isn't a turbodiesel???
A series 50??
Yes
That's a 4cyl
And it is in fact a turbodiesel
Hell yeah
That sounds like the most underpowered thing ever
My bus fan friends are saying this mf handles like a Rolls-Royce
it is lmao it has power issues uphill
Which is why imma fuck around with it and add that N2O system
If you want it to be used for a business then do not add nitrous
A) to enable me to bruteforce my way uphill and b) if some yobbo in a BMW brake checks me and tries to take off, i can pace they stupidass
Yes probably a failing turbo
ill register this bus to myself
Or just an engine that needs an overhaul anyways
Owner says its probably a fuel injection issue
Afaik the bus is in near perfect condition
Its literally the perfect choice
That's probably even more expensive
It still has to undergo inspections to be used for commercial purposes
Jokes on you and everyone who doubts me, my cousin knows diesel maintenance
in that case, i'll lock out the Nitro system with a key that only I have so that it cant be used when in revenue service
I was a technician for three years
Cool
Diesel fuel system parts are $$$$$
Here's a photo of my bus in service
I am aware of this, i probably will make infinite money off of this if nothing else because i know transit fans will literally fly across the damn country to see this thing and ride it
Source: Me
I'm the transit fans
And Everett Transit management
Before they scrapped their 2001 Orion V's, mfs would fly in from all over the place just to get a ride on them
I still think you're vastly underestimating how much it'll cost to own and operate
It is what it is
If im in the red operating this thing, i'll get a cutaway and this will go into long-term storage till i turn a profit
imma go to that storage yard today
and get me some pictures
pretty sure the only money in bussing is like charter bussing
like a handful of people maybe
gonna go out there and say the amount of transit fans is less than what’s needed to like. run a buisness
Clearly you don’t know enough about transit
This was the turnout for MEHVA’s Santa’s Lights tour
Even better, it was mostly normal people and not mega transit geeks
Hush Mode still worked on our bus, so heres a video of us cruising theough Olympic Manor with it enabled
Ask me what hush mode is
@lone fern
a tour is a thing to do, transit is 'i need to go to the shops'.
heyy i got a opel too
🥲
can’t kill them damn things
a shame it went out the way it did but she lived a good life 🫡
I saved a couple badges and a hubcap off her
Would have liked to get the bow tie off the grille, but it was obliterated in the wreck
shoot if you were closer to me i’d buy the bumper and maybe the wheels, i’ve been looking for a nice rust free set of steelies and a rear bumper which are unobtanium here lol
You’d have to take the whole truck anyway, we don’t have the room to just sell parts off it
I got people for that
Nice
common rail yes, IDI/DI no
IDIs are probably some of the cheapest motors to get fuel system parts for ever put into a pickup truck or sedan in the last 60 years
My OG 12V 5.9L Cummins had its fuel system fully replaced from the motor to the fuel tank for less than the cost of injectors for my LLY Duramax
AI slop begone
Does this normally work for you?
what's up with it
Could do with a suspension rebuild, and steering is Bleh.
Adulting. Btw.
70€?
€35 for both front, and the rear wiper for an the BMW i3.
Thansen!
T HANSEN !
There aren't too many around. But they have some reasonable prices.
Honestly not the biggest fan of Biltema.
Look at getting seperate for the front instead of the kit.
F
norway being norway
But yeah. They had a bit of a sale last week. Usually my wipers would be like 500 SEK.
Saving 150 SEK from it.
hmmm, even at 50% its expensive
maintenance moment
not that my car is any better
To be fair. That car had almost 400,000 km on it.
i bought 2 of these on monday, now its on sale
You can probably ask them for some money back. I have done that.
Bought myself a Noco that has gotten used a handful of times.
yeah that is fair
seen a lot of those do 500k km
Have had my Noco for 2 years now and no use. Idk if it even works bc I never used it
Should probably charge it up every once in a blue moon.
Yeah i do sometimes
there is a chance that I will buy a car tomorrow
what car?
What killed her?
last cold snap where it reached like almost -40 here the head gasket went. plus the car already having so much body and frame rust as well as the fact i don't have the time or space to repair it... just became not worth it to fix anymore sadly 😔
otherwise if i didn't need a car for work and i had the space i could've replaced the head gasket
I've done it on my E46
I bought my e39 with a bad head gasket but I bought a replacement engine
It was blown from overheating
The head gasket
I misunderstood. I thought you meant engine blown. Got it
I bought a used BMW 135i for $5,000 and promised it would stay a reliable daily driver. I lied.
This film is an interview between my logical conscience and my emotional self as I recount the events that led to this purchase and attempt to justify the claim I made in the beginning. "This new car will be the ultimate daily"
NOTE: (this was reupl...
Since last week's teardown featured virtually ZERO carnage, I wanted to make up for it.
I did not expect this! This is an INCREDIBLY blown up 6.8L 2-valve V10 engine from a 2018 Ford E-450 Incomplete vehicle, like a church bus or box truck. Unfortunately I do not know miles as I could not find any VINs on the block. The level of destruction ins...
all i will say is that it had less "functional" pistons then my miata and prob had more parts in mass in the blast basket then the engine of my miata weights
A 1-series would be nice...
in the market for a first car
i really fancy an alfa 159
in ti trim they look stunning
opinions on the car
They are such beautiful cars. Bit weird about them being FWD based.
I mean a blown head gasket can definitely mean a blown engine
It did in that car's case
More rare. Blew several on E36 M3 and E46 types. As long as you don't drive it long after and overheat it with that issue like an idiot would, it'll be fine.
Just check the head and block for any damage when replacing and you should be good to go. All else fails, shave them both with a file and give them a good bath.
You don't throw out an engine just because a warped head or slight burns on the block or bent valves
You only do that if you got money to burn
You do with the m-series engines because of how cheap they are
And the fact they pull the threads out of the block when they overheat
This was a bad engine and was not worth my time or money to rebuild
Nah man, I always just fixed the single issue and went on with it. Parts were cheap like borscht
I'm not paying to send the head and block to a machine shop when a replacement engine is $1000 or less
Nah Bro I wouldn't do that either. Just do it yourself. It's easy
I don't have the equipment to resurface a head and block
I'd just bring the parts into my apartment, setup a desk and do it by hand
Or bore the cylinders
All you need is a file
A couple beer
And just go to town
All I did, and it worked just fine
Thing ran like a champ and raced for years after
I repair engines correctly or replace them
I guess if correctly means something other than running perfectly fine, I would disagree with you.
I'm not going to sell somebody a car with an engine that I fixed as cheaply and poorly as possible
And that engine is junk
Again, cheap does not mean poorly
I'm not buying a new rotating assembly for it or boring it
Paying out there ass, does not mean quality either
I have an engine overhaul certification
So then why aren't you using it and doing the work yourself? If you're so educated in it
Because I fix engines correctly
Certification mean squat if you don't use them
How are you measuring runout with a file
There are plenty of mechanics that could likely outbuild you any day of the week and have zero certifications
I don't really care
But you don't. You said you don't do the work yourself
I take pride in my work and don't sell people things I can't confirm will be good
Because I don't have the equipment
But you're so certified, for what? When you don't even have equipment or know how to rebuild without specialized equipment? You think that equipment has existed since the invention of the very first engines? Nope
You can do things by hand without specialized equipment and it'll actually work just fine
There are other ways to do things
Has absolutely nothing to do with a flat surface to set a head on a block
How are you measuring the runout after you file something down by hand
On a low compression iron block/iron head motor it doesn't matter sure
But on modern full aluminum engines it really does
And you're still ignoring the fact I replaced this engine because it's completely junk
You don't need to on an already working block
It likely was not
Probably had many working parts on it still
That's just waste
Why would I buy a full rotating assembly, bore it, and deck it when I can buy another engine for less
To take pride in your work and what you've built
So you're telling me to spend more money to fix something that isn't worth fixing?
Just because of pride?
Why would you throw out an entire computer because the motherboard went capoot?
Plenty of working parts still there
Because it costs less to replace it and the component aren't worth saving
Idiot
If you're asking that, you clearly should not have that "certification" you say
The oil pan drain plug crush washer. Those things can be reused infinite times if you're careful...
(this is only a half joke - I reuse mine because I don't over tighten them when reinstalling the drain plug bolt.)
The entire rotating assembly is junk, the deck surface is warped, the head is warped, the cylinders are further out then just a hone
It's junk
That's more than $1000 in work to fix
I do too
My point is I'm just not going to waste money fixing something that isn't worth it
The motor is junk and nothing is worth saving from it
Quit being a dumbass
To use your analogy against you, they're throwing out the computer because the case is the only useful thing left but even that needs some hammering back into shape to be reused
Piss off
Doesn't even make any sense
Yes
Found a 1975 Mercedes 300d in mint condition with 167k miles nearby for 5k and thats my budget for a weekend project car. Anyone have any experience with those old mercedes inline 6 diesels? Wanna know what im signing up for
Its a "project car" but the owner swears up and down theres no issues. We'll find out
They are essentially bulletproof engines. The biggest weakness of these cars is the vacuum systems that operate everything.
I'd watch for heater controls, make sure that works. Transmission sometimes shift weird, but hard shifts aren't bad. Hard shifts at least means it just needs adjusting
Rust is the big one you don't want
Check under the drivers floor matt. There's a cable that runs into the floor pan. Always rusts there
5k is a pretty average price for these, so if this isn't the one, it wouldn't be difficult to find another at that price
These cars can look so good though
hot diggity damn
Yeah man. These on airbags are such beautiful looking cars
somehow manages to look modern while still keeping its class
10/10
Bro can not be serious 😭 you might get away with that on a old engine with a composite head gasket but even then it would still be a ridiculous method even as far as work arounds / hacks go and definitely not with a MLS.
put a 1.9 tdi in it lift it roof rack off road build lights maybe a tent spare wheel in trunk
Big offroad tires
offroad bumper on front
winch
rocksliders
Here’s one for you
Just bought some new wheels
Didn’t come with spare wheel
But has a spare wheel well
I’ve kept my old spare wheel
But I don’t want to lose the sound insulation that the old underfloor foam provided
So I was going to buy some foam and cut it up
But I don’t know what kind of foam to go for!
Ideally something with mass to get sound insulation, though foam can help with acoustics
The wheel fills up the space pretty well, just want some foam to go around the edge
Doesn’t need to be better than before, just needs to be as good
I figure if I get some thick foam it’ll do the same job the OEM was doing, no?
Possibly, different foam have different properties, sound and vibration absorbing mats do not take up much space though
audio shops will have sound deadening foam too, might be worth a look into
adhesive on one side so u can stick it to the car
You know of any easy electric wiper and window conversions?
Nvm the spec of the one im looking at has electric windows and wipers
The 300Ds have vacuum locks
The windows and wipers are both electric
Speaking from experience, just cap off the lines running to the locks, they probably don’t work anymore anyway and any vacuum leaks on these will cause the shutdown pod not to work
And he's the one calling me stupid
😭
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
Chat should i get this
Its outta gas and the nearest CNG is at SeaTac
It needs the tanks replaced, but first things first: get it driving
its literally free
No
No
I took off my tailpipe to put on a sexy one and it literally sounds no diff with none on, was it broken the whole time lol?
is that pipe in the middle of all that garbage what you're referring to?
it appears to be just a straight through pipe with what is possible a really ineffective resonator
so it couldn't have been doing much
^^
Yes and thanks for letting me know
This mah new one
I’m a bit concerned tbh cause I’m doing a de-resonator pipe and I’m now worried after learning how little that tailpipe did that it’s gonna be fuck off loud
If anything, thats going to be considerably more quiet
Lol well tbh with luck since im loosing the resonator
and adding two much bigger mufflers
Yeye
This lad right here
This is a diff model mines quite large so I think it does most of the work quieting it down
Idk hopefully it sounds good 😭🥀
watching some sick week coverage. i've seen beautiful LS swapped RX8's before but not one used as a drag car
not pure hydrogen no
has to be mixed w cng
also would require extensive tuning and diff injectors probably
im buying a bus for three cents off some friend
it runs cng
im going to run it off propane till i can get to a fueling station
Toyota have ran a 4A-GE on hydrogen with minimal modification
i suppose it probably depends on the motor i guess
And a G16E
And possibly a 2zr in a corolla a few years ago
It'll be great for keeping ICE racing alive
Range and hydrogen availability ain't an issue if you're just going around a track and the track has a hydrogen supply
What AI is that processed thru?
Just apple’s default camera editor
haha so when I jokingly said to a friend that the local dealership with the AI looking pictures was probably 'shot on iphone' I could have very easily been correct. lol They all have the weird look of standing out too much from the background with lack of bokeh and glassy smooth surfaces.
Unedited, and yeah apples editor for a non professional level photographer is fantastic
Miot (is mine)
hell yeah buddy of mine just bought this exact truck but in GMC form
Already a good sign
yum yum yum
those are just included internal spare parts
Or be like CvK daily drive Miata/MX-5 to build the fastest hypercars in the world
He also dailies a GR Yaris
Just ordered a bash bar for my Miata, rip $570
No idea if it’s gonna clear my bumper or not
But after spinning out trying to drift an on-ramp and kissing the wall it’s definitely time. I got lucky that the damage can be repaired with a come-along and a hammer
I'm normally allowed 9 drive hours in a day. Today I parked with 8 hours, 55 minutes.
stealing 5 mins of the bosses time tisk tisk. /s
New girl at work rocked up in a properly worn in Ineos Grenadier this week.
Very confused but intrigued, going to have to know more.
Anyway, Throttle House dudes Thomas and James on The Grand Tour? Love those guys.
does that make it the only one that's actually been used
I'll watch to see how it goes, rooting for francis to succeed
people seem to compare it with the top gear "reboot" but its not a hostile takeover this time so why not
just checked one out at the detroit auto show, honestly pretty cool little rigs
going to look at this 75 mercedes 300d next wednesday and im looking at parts availibility. Most stuff is available, but i cant find a radiator anywhere. Anyone know a good source? I only see 240/280 radiators or 300d radiators for w123 models
i wouldnt care too much if the radiator wasnt the only thing in the engine bay that looks a little cooked
300,000 km
The bigger issue is the low fuel. Smh.
Dafuq? There is plenty there
I don't fill until the needle stops moving, or my estimated mileage says less than 10
it also has lpg
You can only really know your car once you've run completely out of fuel
Almost like new
Only oil is leaking somewhere
but other than that no problems
Exactly. You finally can drive it with confidence that all the issues are likely already fixed and worked out.
Easy to find. Probably just a seal or gasket that needs to be replaced
Kind of the beauty about high mileage. You can tyically also estimate when something gonna need replacing at that mileage. You get the feeling and easier to budget for in my experience
Seal or oil pressure sensor
Dad's car but today I drive it
Ecotec
I understand it. But I don't have to like it.
(Nor does the fuel pump)
Though, the worst kinds of people are those that only ever put in like 10 liters.
Meh, it happens, just don't do it every time is how I go about it. Once or twice in the lifetime is fine
That way you know the limits
I could just about get 800 km's out of my E46 320i when I drove it more or less only on the freeway.
813+ km's on a single tank, with 20 km's left on the range.
I would always reset the trip when I fueled up that car.
i know a quite successful racecar driver who just drives a corolla now because driving actual race cars ruined sportscars for him
Best bet is just rebuild the existing one
got the “pleasure” of driving my grandmas low mileage 01 sebring, because I have to do a brake job on it (very likely on the original set from 2001 😭)
I got to drive a lovely 1953 Morris minor and I have to say the clutch was a lot more forgiving than ones on a lot of modern cars. It didn't stall when I was learning the gears (Im new to driving and still have a year or so before I can get a license) and I only stalled when I was trying to do some parallel parking
So many screens holy hell
