lone fern
#

also most people who think they need awd just need proper tires

#

i’m certain it exists for idiots who run allseasons in heavy snow (basically everybody here in michigan as far as i can tell)

#

whereas my fwd regal with some studded snow tires and like 5 inches of ground clearance can plow right past em

south jackal
#

I only said the quality has dropped off and that older ones were the ones to buy. I also pointed out that you can't just blanket say they are most reliable today as they have had some major issues over the last while. They certainly are not the same company they once were.

#

You can't guarantee me that buying a Toyota made in the last 5 years will still be running fine in 20 years with their recent reputation

lone fern
south jackal
#

Exactly.

lone fern
#

in 20 years time there will still be quite a few cars with the 1.8 1zzfe in it on the road but i have a good feeling we won’t see as many new ones in 20 years

south jackal
#

One of the more reliable ones night actually be Nissan since they are sticking more to tried and true and aren't implementing all this new tech and whatnot. Look at the frontier as an example. It's actually a very basic truck in this day and age.

lone fern
#

their trucks are decently stout, and for the most part nissan can make a solid v6 at least, but i’ve heard their new 3cyls are pretty trash and their cvt’s are better but still not great

south jackal
#

There are quite a few examples of 1 million mile Frontiers out there.

south jackal
lone fern
#

also rest in peace to the versa and altima

#

gonna be the downfall of that company

south jackal
#

I just won't be brand loyal say buy this brand. It's more like, what you looking for? Okay, now we can narrow it down to something that will suit your needs.

#

Because no one brand makes everything perfect for everyone.

lone fern
#

yup there’s always a few good options out there

#

however it seems like if ya want a basic sedan in the u.s at least theres like zero now

south jackal
#

That's a sad fact

lone fern
#

very sad indeed

#

genuinely would have considered a sentra with the manual trans as a daily because i drive so much and they are so insanely cheap

south jackal
#

USA should just build a rail system. I mean, they are the richest country right?

#

So why not?

#

If poor ass countries can do it, they should be about to

lone fern
#

we used to have incredible passenger rail for the time period that is till the auto industry convinced our govt that we wanted to drive everywhere

south jackal
#

Except now cars are almost unaffordable

lone fern
#

and now amtrak (our insanely inefficient passenger nationwide rail system) has to run on freight rail lines and freight trains have priority so it takes forever and they’re expensive

south jackal

The SRT-4 still one of my favorite Cars ever for pure fun factor.

#

The company was legit having fun at that point in time

dull cedar
#

The closest Chrysler ever got to a proper performance NA engine

#

Oh wait

#

I read it wrong

#

It's not NA

#

15psi on a 2.4 litre and it only produces 230hp? In 2003? That's some impressively bad engineering

#

Cast crankshaft

south jackal
#

Actually it had very impressive performance for the time

#

You couldn't get something that performed much better for the price. Those things had very good performance in 3rd gear in real world. My E36 M3 at the time would get pulled on by SRT-4s in 3rd gear. I'd pull on them in earlier gears but god damn those things were strong in 3rd

#

Also, ridiculously easy cars to tune

#

I was very good friends with a guy that had an SRT-4. He had his tuned where it would keep up with my Dinan Stage 2 BMW 335I. Those things were no joke

dull cedar
#

Good performance compared to the NA version of the engine? Sure

#

But that power from a 2.4 litre at that boost level in the 2000s? Lol.

south jackal
#

Give me another option in rose days that's outperforms for the price

#

We are talking mid 20's.

dull cedar
#

Since you're so stuck on the price to performance.... I don't have a direct comparison for the time since I don't know the US market well but the Celica all-trac (st185 gt four) was in the $20k range in the early 90s. That's a 200hp turbo 2 litre at 11psi. AND it has AWD
In other regions it did 220-230ish
much better performance for the engine size

#

a more direct comparison but less power (because smaller engine and also NA) would be the 7th gen Celica GT-S

#

Which was in the 20ks around the time the neon was a thing

#

In the US it made 180hp, from a 1.8 litre NA
In other markets it made 190

south jackal
#

This merits no response.

dull cedar
#

You try again

#

Go back to school

south jackal
#

Clearly you accepted defeat

dull cedar
#

Seriously, the fuck are you smoking?

#

I can't give you a direct comparison because I don't know of any other good turbo cars sold in NA at that time

#

I know the Caldina GT-FOUR was around the mid 20s when converted from yen, and it absolutely stomps the neon's performance, but again, not sold in NA

south jackal
#

Again, come back when you know what you're talking about

south jackal
#

We are not taking neon. We are talking SRT-4. Come back when you are ready to talk. Till then, have a good night

#

The SRT-4 slaps that GT-S celica like it's standing still

#

I'll gladly line up a GT-S vs SRT-4 ANY FUCKING DAY. Bring your GTS crap

#

dull cedar
#

When I say neon, I mean the srt-4 dummy, it's the only neon we've been talking about

south jackal
#

You're the one smoking here

#

GT-S was slow as balls

#

I've raced many of those in my M3 those days and walked then like they standing still

#

Meanwhile the SRT-4 pulled on me

dull cedar
#

People don't seem to realize there are often service area and rest areas alongside the motorway, where you can stop without a problem and launch like this when it's clear KEKW

And from there, there's probably a truck approaching with some momentum, not wanting to stop for an MX-5 launch, hence the honking.

There are other ways to do things
