As is the case for most old Volvo's

take engine apart to replace blown head gaskets and cracked heads from a crash 60K miles again
Look inside
It's all fucked

#

I have no clue how this thing still ran at all it literally had half it's lifters broken

#

And it had a leak in the passenger side fuel rail so the whole fuel system was only able to pressureize to about 20K (explains why it couldn't boost)

#

how my cam didn't get fucked presumably having had that leak for 60K miles now is beyond me but it wasn't so I guess I'll take that

#

The passenger side of the fuel rail was essentially running 2K PSI below the driver side so the cylinders couldn't have been in any form of sync anymore in terms of firing

#

but this thing surprisingly started right up still just wouldn't boost, the TCM wouldn't allow for overdrive anddddd it'd sometimes die if it was really cold

It shall soon smack things again mashallah

LB7s aren't nearly reliable as the LLY and LBZ

#

if anyone claims to have more than 300K on a LB7 they are lying because LB7s cavitate like a motherfucker

misty mantle
tribal sphinx
#

that LLY has a million on it

#

its my second LLY to hit a million

#

every LB7 I have owned has had the engine scraped or the whole vehicle scrapped because they cavitate like a motherfucker if they boost often

#

the other million mile LLY is much cleaner because it hasn't been plowed with. this one has been plowing since I bought it in 2006

misty mantle
#

Said LB7 needs a TCM and injectors as it sits right now though

tribal sphinx
#

how long do LB7 injectors even last

#

I've only put 3 sets in this LLY and my other LLY has had 5

misty mantle
#

Supposedly around 150k
This truck has gone double that on the factory ones

tribal sphinx
#

LLY and LB7 injectors are really hit or miss

#

I think they wear quicker if they boost a lot

#

my other one has mostly pulled and towed so it was boosting a lot more than this one has which has mostly plowed and drove empty

misty mantle
#

They’re mechanical injectors that has solenoids thrown on them

tribal sphinx
#

I've personally seen them lasting upwards of 300K and dying short of 150K though

misty mantle
#

I’ll see if I can get the mileage reading off the ECM next time I see the truck. The TCM keeps pulling the whole CAN bus to code reader interface down

tribal sphinx
#

the odo won't show it in accessory?

misty mantle
#

It does, not sure if it’s correct though.

tribal sphinx
#

it's a digital ODO shouldn't it be showing the same as a scanner real?

#

I've never seen digital ones being off from a scanner reading and I've seen some vehicles with some really illegal shit like vin swaps done to them before

#

like OBD should be pulling from BCM and IPC, Cluster should be pulling from IPC

#

I know a weird quirk of the LB7s is they don't count after a million in the BCM only on the IPC so once the cluster loses power itll restore back to 999999

#

and scanners wont ever pull above 999999 from them

#

but I think this is only 01/02s because 03s are very diffrent electrically

#

(the IPC and BCM are combined on the 03s and up and have another 8mb of storage and 2mb of memory)

The biggest issue iirc is the absolute rats nest of wires, vacuum lines, random bs thats needed for its fuel injection system
Its a weird mechanical/efi hybrid and with 12 cylinders its an absolute nightmare
Ive heard if you pull this rats nest off the engine isnt bad for what it is but
Its usually easier to yank the whole thing and add a 454 chevy

It's a crime to tamper with odometer in Poland at all

tribal sphinx
#

damn wtf

#

my plow truck is off by like 800K cus it got a new ODO

#

its actually on like 1.2-1.3 million

tribal sphinx
#

the odometer failing isnt your fault I don't see how that can be illegal.

paper sandal
#

but I'm required to have a working odometer on my car or else it will be taken off the road iirc

tribal sphinx
#

rip

#

here in ohio only salvage title vehicles need working odometers

#

thats why my trans am is off the road like 20% of the time because its odometer keeps stopping and I can't figure out why and haven't had time to tear the whole dash apart.

#

the criminal shit with odos here is all when you knowingly tamper with it. if it fails on its own or fucks up on its own its not your fault, you need to disclose a incorrect odo if you replace your cluster.

paper sandal
#

replace it with what?

tribal sphinx
#

another cluster?

#

or a custom cluster. my K35 has a built cluster in it.

paper sandal
#

I would love to make my own custom cluster

tribal sphinx
#

you can't really do it on modern digital cluster vehicles sadly

paper sandal
#

since the VFD in my totoya is very meh

tribal sphinx
#

this is the custom one in my K35

#

still have to disclose on the title its non accurate milage since I've installed a new odometer that doesn't match the vin

paper sandal
#

I feel it is possible, since most of my "digital cluster" is analog

#

just would have to figure out how the RPM and speed is transfered

tribal sphinx
#

if you can change those aftermarket custom clusters exist

tribal sphinx
#

this is the factory cluster

#

I had to put a aftermarket cluster in so I could have the tach actually match the motor going into it.

#

since this truck predates high pressure common rail engines and their lower redlines by a good 20 years

tribal sphinx
#

do they inspect the fucking odometer at inspections or even worse at random stops.

paper sandal
#

going to yearly inspection and getting your registration confiscated

tribal sphinx
#

oh we don't do that here

paper sandal
#

and also police does that too

tribal sphinx
#

yeahhh we don't do that here either

paper sandal
#

because it has been a very know issue people clocking cars with like 800k+ km on it and selling it as 180k

tribal sphinx
#

only inspections are if you're suspected of drug trafficing (they take apart all your body panels) or if its salvage title they check S/Ns to make sure theres not any stolen parts on it

tribal sphinx
paper sandal
#

my sister in law got a VW Passat b6 that has been sold as having 240ish k km on it

#

it turned out it had 980k km on it

tribal sphinx
#

I find that really hard to belive tbh

#

people in the million mile club are REALLY proud of those vehicles and wont sell them period.

forest lintel
tribal sphinx
#

assuming a speed of 60 mph hour you'd need 8,284 hours to reach that

#

that is 345 days

paper sandal
tribal sphinx
#

your odo has an issue or something thats litterally not possible unless you've been driving that car 24/7 non stop

tribal sphinx
#

or euro cars count distance traveled really weird.

forest lintel
#

Long distances up here in the Nordics too

tribal sphinx
#

the 4 semis I have are pretty often going from Cincy ohio to upstate new york and san francisco which is like

#

600 miles and I think 2K?

#

then again fastest roads in the US are only 80mph and more often 60 is the max, 40 in cities

paper sandal
tribal sphinx
#

TXSH130 goes to 85 afaik thats the fastest road in the US

paper sandal
#

counting if during the month the truck has been driven for 20 days at least

tribal sphinx
#

max a semi can legally drive daily is 14 hours in the US, I have 2 people rotating 9 hours a day for 18 hour drive windows daily.

#

also 60 hours a week max before a 34 hour break is needed

paper sandal
#

you can drive a truck in EU for maxt of 10 hours in 2 days and 9 for the rest of the week

#

IDK how it works with having 2 drivers

tribal sphinx
#

probably same as the US, if they rotate they're technically not counted as a break time so they can't go for over 10 hours daily.

paper sandal
#

the highest i've ver seen so far

tribal sphinx
#

in the US its 10 hours driving, you can take a 10 hour break to go to 11, and 14 hours total paid time.

tribal sphinx
paper sandal
tribal sphinx
#

semis will be getting decommisioned or rebuilt about that time in the US.

paper sandal
#

also semi truck have certified spedometers here

tribal sphinx
#

same here

paper sandal
#

sometimes people cheat that by using worn tyres during calibration so they can go faster on new tyres

tribal sphinx
#

certified speedometers aren't actually as accurate as people think

#

they need to be acurate to the nearest 5 (8 for km)

here it's 3 km/h

paper sandal

snow all dries out, its a GMC GMT800 so theres no cab corners to catch rust like the Chevy GMT800s have

one of the biggest changes on a sierra vs a silverado for those years is the sierra has squared and open cab corners with no lip, the silverado has rounded and closed cab corners with a lip which catches salt and debries n shit then rusts though

I just started disregarding the Sierra 2 years ago and it has been fine. It's 20 years old now it's gonna need to be replaced soon anyway due the bed and body damage it's sustained, the Ford's had shit fall apart due to rust 3-4 years in even with rust coatings

Rust protection PROBABLY does actually help small cars but it doesn't do very much on these large trucks.

When I had POR-15 it was only done to the frame so UV didn't get to it since it wasn't UV exposed

The reason the Sierra is doing better is because it's around 3 and a half inches higher cause of a 2 inch lift and 20" tires

never gonna buy another ford though, I know if the paint starts chipping on the frame they can start undergoing galvanic corrosion anywhere the steel and aluminum parts meet after a few years

I really believe its because they are affordable and the snaller cars do not cost less. Its the, get more for the same price thing. Which, probably plays into the whole, bigger car will also equate to more fuel burned. Which means oil companies make money.

#

But prove me wrong please

#

If it's only $1000 and means $5 more per month over 7 years, they're gonna choose the bigger car

Part of the reason I want European cars here in Canada is because our gas prices are way higher here (especially my area), but we're often stuck with USDM vehicles

or a non GM V6?

#

I don't think the 3rd and 2nd gen are that different so swapping a 3.6L out of a 3rd gen shouldn't be that hard

#

I think there's a few V6s on the VSS platform (3rd gen Colorado)

#

why do you want to swap a V6 in though the TurboMax i4 literally beats any of the V6s ever offered in the Colorado and even some of the V8s in older Silverados in quite literally every respect

#

If you try swapping in a newer GM V6 and want it to be a fairly easy swap you're gonna have to use a Chinese GM engine fyi

#

GM does offer a V6 for the VSS platform the Colorado is on just not in the US and not for trucks

#

You'll have to wait for 7th gen Camaros if you want a V6 (or even V8) that fits that platform kinda directly and aren't Chinese market aluminum blocks

#

Alpha 2 engines might also fit kinda well like what the Cadillac CT5 uses but fyi those engines are infamously unreliable by even Cadillac standards

#

Do your research into the VSS and Alpha 2 platforms since they're tied kinda tightly together and share a lot of the electrical work

#

They limited the 3rd gen Canyons to i4s because there's no point in anything larger anymore. You're already getting into half ton tow ratings on the TurboMax i4 since 2021 if you want any more performance you're better off just getting a half ton

#

if you're actually familiar with vehicles you could really put whatever you want into a canyon though a dis-similar engine swap into a modern canyon is just like ANY truck made in the past 20 or so years

#

heck if you really wanted to and wanted to do the probably $40K in electrical work a V10 can go into the canyon

lone fern
#

yeah i despise when people just say “oh could i put a v6 in it?” first off, what v6, second off, you can swap anything into any vehicle so long as you have an infinite amount of money and time

#

it pains me to hear mfers on tiktok say “oh just hellcat/ls/b54 swap it” as if that’s some super easy, trivial thing to do

They will run forever too. Dirt simple to work on as its just all mechanical. Not much for electronics. The issues you may end up with are the vacuum systems, but then their are people who will swap that out for non vacuum systems as well if it gets to be too much of a pain. But those cars are just crazy reliable and built like a tank. 140k is nothing for those. People will drive them for over a million miles with relatively little needed to be done. They are slow though. But not unsafe kind of slow. Just don't expect to be racing.

Solskydd för Volkswagen GOLF. Enkel installation utan verktyg eller lim. Perfekt passform och effektivt skydd mot värme och UV-strålar.

But spending €100 extra to have someone properly install it could be worth it. If you're going that route.

The big issue as I see it with Solarplexius is that the tints don't go down with the windows if you're lowering them.

south jackal
#

You brought up aerodynamics. Trucks don't need to go fast either. They are trucks, not race cars After all.

#

They need massive amounts of power and torque to tow and haul heavy, very slowly and controlled.

dull cedar
#

They're pickup trucks not semi trucks

south jackal
#

Yeah they're to be used for towing and hauling...

south jackal
#

Not for taking the kids to school and going to meet the other soccer moms

There in lies the issue... People buying vehicles for the 1% time they'll need instead of 99% of what they need it for. Like, "oh yeah one day I may buy a horse or two, so I'll buy a huge ass truck in case that happens"

The full size trucks aren't

#

Well weren't until recently

south jackal
#

In Canada they have been since the beginning

#

Even way back in the 1940's in the imperial times

Canada barely counts as a seperate country KEKW

#

There's a border, a different government and a different culture but the rest is the same

Cars, building standards, electrical standards...

Hence completely different recalls for USA versions of the cars

#

Also have American versions get 2WD versions of cars, whereas Canada will only have AWD versions

#

USA gets the Ford lightning Pro work trim, Canada does not.

I just gave you multiple examples of differences

#

Lookup BMW N54 turbo warranty on USA. They got extended warranty and free turbo replacements. Canada did not. Its another example of how the Canadian market and cars, are not at all treated the same as the USA versions.

didnt edison motors have a problem with a rule that needed to be changed in USA so they can get the trucks legal in canada

yeah they see it as a off road use generator

But if you're planning to use a vehicle for the vast majority on public roads, then it has to be emissions compliant. Even if it's a hybrid or not.
