They're not even accidents, the roads here in greater OKC are just crap. The G-sensor sensitivity is set to LOW.

The roadwork quality here for the past two decades have been sub-par. Not to mention the effort to properly repair or repave everything is agonizingly slow.
One part of roadway was so bad, I hit a pothole one night during a light rain in 2019, it popped one of my tires slightly out of its rim and caused a flat. The city did have a scheduled plann to repave & widen that entire section in 2022/2024, but they ended up doing the former ahead of schedule in 2020.

#

At home I charge at 0.5 nok per kwh

#

That means for a full charge if my 35kwh battery it's around 17kr? Ish.
So €1.2 for 170km range.

#

A full tank of diesel is easily more than 50€

#

💡 For Comparison
To put this in perspective with your previous calculation (which was likely for an EV):

  • Diesel car (this example): $0.100 USD per km (approx. 10 cents per km)
  • Your calculation (EV?): $0.0046 USD per km (approx. 0.5 cents per km)
#

So I'm my case it's alot cheaper to have an ev that a diesel car

To my knowledge, Toyota + Fuji Heavy Industries have only announced this for certain model years of the Toyota 86 vehicle... even though the issue impacts the Toyota GR86, 86, Scion FR-S, and Subaru BRZ (because they're all built on extremely similar platforms.)
https://www.toyota.com.au/news/toyota-australia-recalls-86-vehicles-to-replace-engine-valve-springs
That said, some people don't want the recall performed because some dealerships have mechanics that have been known to not perform the swap correctly, then shirk any responsibility for an exploded engine after the fact. We need consumer protection laws.

just paid off my Sierra 3500 so time to start looking at a new truck (I always get luxury trims and get a new one right when i pay it off on the 12 month lease for tax and insurance savings that come out to over $30K yearly)
is there anything actually better than the Sierra rn in the 1 ton category?

#

(RAMs are not better stock I have a RAM 3500 with the high output cummins on a SLT trim the Sierra out preforms it in every possible way)

harsh quarry
tribal sphinx
#

esp because I always get the dealer to cover a year's worth of DEF and only get a 12 month lease every time

#

so I also save about $600 in DEF

tribal sphinx
#

so i never get to the point where insurance + yearly maintence is cheaper to do myself instead of keeping a car payment and having the dealer do it.

tribal sphinx
#

there is a MASSIVE reason you don't see many older dually trucks on the road they're almost always newer ones. they get beat to death when you actually use them as a truck and they cost a lot to maintain.

harsh quarry
#

how is it 11K per year that's crazy

tribal sphinx
#

I usually put about 90K miles a year on whatever truck im using daily.

#
  • since I plow I need to put winter oil in (i learned the hard way on my 2022 RAM 3500 you do actually need to do this)
harsh quarry
#

damn someone who actually does work with their truck

#

my car doesn't even have 90K on the odometer

tribal sphinx
#

thats just the cost of oil 😭

#

not including both filters, a dpf replacement every 50K miles, DEF injectors every 60K

#

and the several other things any modern turbo diesel needs.

#

(yes I use mfg oil, thats how you get a vehicle to a million miles, I take care of litterally any vehicle I own very well, even if I no way intend to own it that long)

harsh quarry
#

also this is the first I learn of switching oil types for winter

tribal sphinx
#

diesels need it pretty badly its horrible to cold start most of them on summer oil

#

every duramax I've owned only needs like 20 second warmup periods on winter oil they need several minutes on summer oil

harsh quarry
tribal sphinx
#

yeah, its really stupid to keep them in service more than 4 years if you can avoid doing so

#

could they do that? yeah easily buisnesses take care of their fleets usually and could easily see 500K miles out of most diesel trucks

#

resale value drops after 4 years, maintence costs typically go up by about 40% yearly after 10 years.

#

ideal time for resale is 3 and a half years old

harsh quarry
#

I never would've thought it was so expensive to maintain these trucks but all things considered it makes sense

tribal sphinx
#

I mean they start out at like $58K now on fleet trucks now and on consumer ones more like $80K

#

when i replaced all the F450s and F350s for my business with silverados it was $53K per truck on the 3500s and $57K on the 4500

#

it costs less to just buy new ones for fleets after a few years than it does to maintain them lol

#

the fleet ones exist for consumers but they're very hard to buy most dealerships WILL NOT under any circumsatnces sell them

#

its $64K now for basically the same thing (this is the L5Pv2 we have the L5Pv1)

woven dove

tribal sphinx

tribal sphinx

do they have a factory delete plate or nah?

tribal sphinx
woven dove
tribal sphinx
#

factory delete plates on the 6.7 only drop the DEF and DPF the EGR remains

woven dove
#

You can order a kit from mopar for something like four grand that’s “everything you need to emissions delete”

#

Or you can just do it yourself

tribal sphinx
#

it keeps EGR and iirc on newer vehicles DPF too

woven dove
#

I’d have to crawl under 554 again to look, but pretty sure ours is down to the equivalent of a straight pipe

tribal sphinx
#

yeah that has more removed than a factory delete then

woven dove
#

Where the def tank sat is now a secondary fuel tank for the pump since it’s not pto driven

tribal sphinx

all factory deletes and factory styled delete kits typically keep DPF and EGR nowadays

RAMs dropped DPF too for awhile and might still drop it

woven dove

And it’s run damn well since

#

Though I still prefer gas engines for the job

tribal sphinx
#

our hazardous waste 5500 has a factory delete (silverado 5500) keeps the EGR and we constantly get exhaust issues on it due to the missing DEF and DPF system despite being factory

woven dove
woven dove
#

It’s about a dollar more a gallon than premium gas

tribal sphinx

yeah but diesels get better mileage all around but its about 1.5x the mileage of a gas between 45 and 70

#

if diesel is less than 1.5x the price of gas you save on fuel costs

woven dove
lone fern

Then there is the GM version that matches the Powerstroke results.

The rebel is a nice trim for off road.

Diesel is really only relevant when you are towing HEAVY often, and doing a lot of miles, 50,000/year+. That up front cost is no joke. And the maintenance on a diesel is a significant amount more than a gasser.

My father works construction and has a 2011 GMC with the 6.0L vortec engine. He's a 390,000km now, and that truck has essentially towed 90% of it's life ~6000lbs with tools and supplies for the jobs. He's kept up with the maintenance and it's running beautifully to this day. Nothing major has been needed yet. That thing will still roast the tires anytime. Anomaly? Doesn't seem so the more people I talk to. Those who have had issues typically don't keep up with regular maintenance and don't treat the vehicle well. When I worked in a dealership I saw many gas HD trucks with 350+ on them running just fine.

@woven dove hey odd question since you've got access to presumably higher trim rams

#

they have a secondary and primary USB C port right? If you use a type C to Type C cable with a laptop while the truck is in accessory and the radio is off does the radio become a second screen

#

I use that feature a LOT on my Sierra 3500 and I checked the order sheet it's not a optioned thing so this is presumably a standard feature

The gas is usually supercharged or turbo charged the diesel is only turbo charged

Also 350km is around 220 miles which is well below average for a gas truck

tribal sphinx
#

My company has 2 turbo charged L8Ts

#

and the rest are supercharged

yeah with the 10 speed now which is very efficient. Almost matching the duramax

tribal sphinx
#

GMs gas and diesel preform VERY similar unless you get a GMC Denali or Denali Ultimate but the L5P diesel gets about 10 more mpg highway and like 4 more city

#

(the one in the Denali/Denali ultimate can be optioned to make 120 more HP for the L5P but no high output option for the L8T exists

Lol no way in hell the duramax getting that much more

tribal sphinx
#

I've had mine jump up into the low 60s speeding on back roads with cylinder shut off on

#

you can hear it dropping to 4 cylinders when doing it

south jackal
#

Vs the 6 speed I can see 30%. But not 10mpg which would be almost 75%more

tribal sphinx
#

it's like 17mpg for the L8T in my experience

#

its advertised as like 19 iirc

#

the older 6.6L gas was better on fuel but isn't nearly as powerful

south jackal
#

Its more like 10% at most

It's like 4 mpg more out of the Duramax city

#

the Duramax doesn't really stop having better mileage till the high 70s

#
  • the Duramax has cylinder shut off neither of the 6.6L gas engines have
#

(that's the main reason it gets better mileage is it drops to 2 or 4 cylinders when it can)

#

If you turn off cylinder shut off it's something like 1 more mpg city 4 more highway it's not nearly as big of a dif

I have yet to see any of the HD diesels with this.

Didn't know the 6.6 gas got AFM
