Same but I got no issue with that

velvet blaze
#

Buying for my Mk4 Golf 2.0 N/A

#

How else am I supposed to put all this 90hp to the ground

limber whale
#

2013 GTI, the only wetness under this god damn engine

#

And I don’t know what im looking at

velvet blaze
#

I think thats charge pipe im looking at to the right

#

I used to be a vw tech but its been a lil bit since working on gtis

velvet blaze
#

Looks like upper timing cover is leaking down

#

But Im not certain on that

limber whale
#

That’s what the people of Reddit said when I reverse image searched this

velvet blaze
#

Is that charge pipe in front of your serp belt?

#

Like are all your pulleys right there?

#

On the right side of the pic

limber whale
#

Yes I think

#

Can see the belt poking out

#

On that pulley

velvet blaze
#

Its obviously coming from higher up but without a deeper look I cant be 100% certain that im correct on whats leaking

#

But its looking like upper timing cover, possibly just timing cover in general, or possibly a valve cover gasket

#

Luckily they’re all cheap and easy on the 2.0s

limber whale
#

Not a valve cover gasket, I can confirm that

#

Would a pic from inside the hood help

velvet blaze
#

Honestly a real good video would do the most

limber whale
#

K gimme a sec

limber whale
velvet blaze
#

It does, so from what I can see, its not actually your upper timing cover itself, but the cam actuator seal in the upper timing cover

#

But, id just get all the upper timing cover seals because it comes with the kid, and just re seal it all

#

Itd be like sub $30? Usd

limber whale
#

There’s also this I noticed

velvet blaze
#

Pretty cheap to do

limber whale
velvet blaze
#

Correct

limber whale
#

So just fix the common issue that’s common and cheap and easy to fix

velvet blaze
#

Id just send a full upper timing cover re seal, super cheap and easy to do

#

Yep

limber whale
#

I looked at a video guide and it doesn’t look too bad

velvet blaze
#

Nothing to stress about

limber whale
#

That would also be the source of my oil being half low lmao

velvet blaze
#

Do you have a jack?

limber whale
#

It’s on a Jack

#

My cars lowered, no way I could slip under it

velvet blaze
#

To make your life even easier, not necessary to do at all, but you can remove the engine mount

#

Jack up the motor a lil, take the motor mount out, and attack the timing cover

limber whale
#

Oh you mean like put a jack on the engine itself

#

Ah

#

I see

velvet blaze
#

But its not necessary at all

#

But the mount is like a handful of easy to get to bolts

limber whale
#

Got 3 jacks so anything’s possible

#

Well thank you for your help, it’s nice that my only leakage is something simple

#

112k miles too, not bad

velvet blaze
#

Yeah np

#

Even if it doesn’t fix it (it almost certainly should), its good maintenance and cheap so

#

Upper timing cover gaskets would fail either way at some point

limber whale
#

Especially at my cars age and mileage

velvet blaze
#

They get dried out and hard, start to crack n stuff

#

2013 is too new for me

limber whale
#

lol

velvet blaze
#

And 113k miles is too little

#

My B5 S4 is a 2001 with 180k miles and my mk4 golf is a 2000 with 267k miles

#

Friggin units i tell ya

limber whale
#

Believe me, this cars got a 6 speed manual. She’ll get her rightful miles

velvet blaze
#

Both my cars too

limber whale
#

As they should

velvet blaze
#

Well the s4 is a 6mt the golf is a 5mt

#

Thing is falling apart

limber whale
#

Quite nice

#

From the outside at least then lol

velvet blaze
#

Its not that bad but ive been ignoring it till my golf is back on the road so I can park it and tear it back apart

limber whale
#

K I gotta get this thing off its stands, again appreciate the help.

velvet blaze
#

Yeah np

#

Have you owned a vw or audi before? It is well known the 2.7 bi turbos are just a pain in the butt to work on and super unreliable.

velvet blaze
#

I was a flat rate technician at VW and have owned numerous Audis

#

Unreliable is a far stretch, and hard to work on is entirely due to the chassis they were put in

spice compass
#

I feel for you then. HAHAH Just doing chains on those things are fun.

velvet blaze
#

They dont have chains

#

They have a belt, in the front

fringe juniper
#

I personally just like my NA engines. It's a preference lol

velvet blaze
#

They have a chain that pairs the 2 cams together as the belt only engages with a single cam on each head, but those chains almost never wear and if they do, theyre easily accessible through the valve covers

#

Theyre extremely short so chain stretch is almost non existent

spice compass
#

Gotcha. I remember helping several buddies with theirs and I always hated it.

#

Not as bad as 1.8t's but they were everywhere and everyone beat the hell out of them.

#

I am a VR fan.

velvet blaze
#

1.8ts and 2.7ts are both tanks if properly maintained, people have this weird idea that theyre both junk when they do nothing but beat on them

spice compass
#

For sure, but we could say that about any engine really. 1.8ts weren't that bad. Made good power with simple chip flash.

velvet blaze
#

Theyre both timing belt motors, do the belt every 50k miles like the manufacturer recommends with not cheap junk, and let the oil get up to temp. Thats it. I have 185k miles on my 2.7, I daily drive it, factory turbos, zero issues
