#

Sad, not a manual v8

glad mantle
#

I've owned enough manuals in my lifetime for the time being. Specifically wanted a really nice late 1st gen because of the single clutch gearbox and v10 combination (the v8 is nice but I genuinely just don't really like V8s at all. I like linear power delivery and most V8s are very torquey on the low end and fall off with it on the high end in exchange for more smooth power. Not to mention the sound)
But to each their own

#

I was cross shopping this, a huracan, and a gallardo and driving them back to pack I just like the character of the r-tronic the most so it's what I went with

#

I will probably pick up a miata with a manual again in the next few years because it's just such a joy to drive, but for a supercar I didn't want a stick. I just wanted to be able to enjoy cruising in it and having some fun in the mountains around where I live without hassle and with minimal maintenance.
Engagement without frills

dull cedar
#

There is a rattle in my car's interior and I'm tempted to tear things apart till I find it

native ermine
#

oof why'd you get a convertible R8

#

also "i cross shopped a huracan and Gallardo" brag about it much. should have gotten the Gallardo

glad mantle
#

Not to mention I live in BC and the insurance difference is massive

#

To give you context, an identical Gallardo would've cost me more to buy, and been roughly $500 per month more in insurance, and roughly $4,000 more per year in average maintenance

#

But it is functionally the exact same car but with a shittier interior and worse comfort/usability (the Gallardo, I mean)

#

I like the Huracan and Gallardo but they don't suit my lifestyle. I wanted a supercar to enjoy driving it and have fun with, not as a fashion statement. I do like the Huracan's styling a bit more (not massively, but I do think it is flashier) but it is a lot less comfortable and more expensive to own and to me the negatives outweigh the positives

#

That said there are a lot of huracans here, they aren't particularly rare where I live, so I get to see them and enjoy the best part of them without owning them :) (which is looking at them)
Literally saw a huracan on the way to pick up the R8 lmao

#

By no means was this a sensible financial decision, it was entirely emotional, but that doesn't mean I want to burn more money than I have to y'know

#

Actually what's really interesting is a couple other cars I was also cross shopping were the McLaren 570s and the Lotus Emira

#

The 570s is a fantastic car and I would never ever want to own one and also they sound terrible, the Emira is one of the best cars I've ever driven (especially with the manual, god it's such a good gearbox with a very, VERY nice shifter) but there's no convertible so it was a no-go for me because I already have a coupe

#

Genuinely if the Emira had a hardtop it would've been the easiest choice of all time

glad mantle
# native ermine your objectively wrong xD

I've been in both. The Gallardo's interior doesn't hold up in terms of material longevity, they don't use the same interior materials as Audi did even though Audi helped with production and the cars don't tend to last as long

#

I don't mean the interior is visually less interesting, I mean that every Gallardo I looked at had at least one interior panel that had moderate wear from material degradation

#

Audi doesn't just make exotics, they make regular cars that are meant to last for a long time and it shows in the R8. Lamborghini got a lot better with the Huracan but the Gallardo doesn't hold up as well as either in terms of how its interior ages

#

And when you want to replace those interior parts, the Gallardo is very expensive to source them for, the R8 isn't and you can get direct support from Audi from it. Lamborghini does support the Gallardo still but not for all of the interior bits, just certain key pieces

#

But again, these don't mean the Gallardo is a worse car, it just means you need different expectations when buying one

I'm looking for affordable elecrtic cars, but can't find anything other than tesla model 3 that fit my requirements in my price range

gentle thicket
#

There really aren't that many. They tend to put way too much battery into them and it bloats the price substantially sos they tend to focus on higher end models.

paper sandal
#

hecnically what I'm looking is something no more than 25k euro and as close to 600 km range as possible

gentle thicket
#

Yeah - see - what I'd be looking for is like 15k USD and would be happy with 150 mile range. A city car, because that's all I believe EVs should be.

dull cedar
gentle thicket
#

Another very good choice. A range enxtender or hybrid is a great way to reduce the amount of wasted lithium that does nothing but sit around pointlessly most of the day.

paper sandal
#

I think hybrid would get like 0 use in my usecase

gentle thicket
#

How can you want 600 km range and also think a hybrid would be useless? Constant speed highway driving is perfect for ICE while start/stop city driving is perfect for electric.

dull cedar
paper sandal
#

also ironically traveling by bus would be even more expensive, but I have too much cargo

dull cedar
#

A good used Toyota hybrid would get you the savings you desire with the specs you want

#

You're not getting an EV with anywhere near 600km range for less than 25k euros

maybe china has something to offer but you shouldn't even consider that option, unless you want to be replacing it sooner

paper sandal

brittle totem
#

Yeah range extender cars are usually pretty inefficient.

lone fern
#

range extenders are really only good for people who very very rarely take longer trips and mostly do short stuff

gentle thicket
#

Range extender is good for 'I drive around town 95% of the time but every once in a while I need to road trip.' It's also the only way I'd consider having just an EV since I live in an area that gets fairly regularly hit with natural disasters. Trying to evacuate in an EV would be an absolute nightmare.

paper sandal
dull cedar

They're good in all traffic

#

Or no traffic

gentle thicket

Yes. Hybrids use the electric motor when torque demands are high so gas consumption is significantly reduced

Sadly nowadays most of 'em burn as much oil as gas or they go boom.

#

Well, boom when you don't fill the oil when you fill the gas

lone fern
#

yeahhhh such a shame they’re super solid motors otherwise

#

i see quite a few out and about yet

bc everyone near me is poor loll

gentle thicket

I mean, you could probably rebuild 'em to fix the oil burning, but I mean you gotta put oil in anyway for the changes. haha

lone fern

Honestly, my mom had shoulder surgeries a couple years ago and still has a hard time reaching out in front of her so she really doesn't drive so I've been doing all the driving in her Palisade for the last few years and holy crap does that adaptive cruise control lane keeping stuff spoil you.

lone fern
#

that’s the case with this vibe too, gotta check it at least once a week

that stuff is nice but the lane keep stuff pissed me off

I turn off the beep beep part but the part where it gently keeps you in the lines is nice

2.0 is it petrol then?

if its a 2.4 diesel you can put a switch in line with the stop solenoid but anyone with any knowledge of diesels could bypass this quickly, the immobiliser implementation on these injection pumps on other cars involved a armour plate over the stop solenoid with a computer inside. The only other thing is a valve on the fuel line hidden somewhere under the car so it will run briefly then starve of fuel.

Service valves like to leak, especially after you have worked on the AC system in any way.
