Dude this is literally the only thing I want to do to it 😭 Is make it slightly louder. Not insane or obnoxious just enough to hear it. Besides that all I plan to do is restore it with some paint work and either getting new seats or having them reupholstered

#

And yes I plan on getting another car as a project

#

That doesn’t mean I don’t want to do anything to my daily

#

Oh and also doing a new headunit and speakers I got a Sony CarPlay unit and a 12 inch sub for 160$

#

Also this is my first car which I bought for 2500$ with money I got from buying and selling pcs from 15 until now 17

round jacinth
# autumn umbra Dude this is literally the only thing I want to do to it 😭 Is make it slightly ...

Gotcha. Still a waste of money. Restoring a painfully forgettable 20yo econocar is unfortunately just not worth it man. Better to be happy with a running vehicle while you save for a better car. Anything you put into this now, is money better spent down the road on a better car.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but trust me, money is a finite resource. Don't throw away pocket money now, when you could get more for it later.

Now that could be a fun ride! Not the most popular Toyota/Lexus ever built, but fantastic powerplant. Lots of aftermarket support. Although thanks to the 2JZ, it never got as much attention stateside. But it's a great V8.

#

Years don't matter. Powerplants and known issues matter. Find the platform you like, identify which years are the most reliable and/or best built, and which you like the look of, and do your research.
Figure out what everyone says about them. What kind of issues you'll have to deal with, what people are doing to make power with them, and what they're typically selling for.
Then just keep researching while you save up.

#

Be selective about which one you buy though. Don't just jump on a "great deal" that's suspiciously cheap.
Figure out what decent examples typically go for, and plan to spend about that.
If you find a decent deal, consider getting it inspected by a local shop before purchase. Typically shops are happy to do a "pre-purchase inspection" for you. And as long as the seller isn't trying to hide anything, they'll be fine with allowing you.

That's just how projects go. Nothing ever fits the way it's supposed to. Or it's rusted shut, or the bolt sheers off, or the documentation is for the wrong model year, or you bought the wrong part, or you just can't get your hand into the right position...
It's a labor of love, but it's also just non-stop frustration.

Also a shop quoted me 1200$ to do just the rear ones

round jacinth

Probably seems like a completely different direction from where you want to go, but small engine repair is a great way to get the basics before you're elbow deep into a 20yo V8.

Start out on little sh*t like getting and maintaining a dirt bike or small dual-sport, will give you so much more experience than thousands of hours spent trolling car forums.

#

A small, light, easy to access thumper (single cylinder) motorcycle is 10x simpler, easier to work on, while still having all of the same concepts as a full sized car. Same basic engine design (minus a few cylinders) same 4-stroke process, WAAAY cheaper.

You stop you. It's not some forgone conclusion. Yes, motorcycles have higher incidence of accidents, and higher incidence of injury, than cars. But those numbers are heavily skewed by a few major factors that can easily be greatly mitigated or avoided entirely.

round jacinth
# native ermine

LOL, that's a Ninja 250. No one's breaking laws with a bike barely capable of highway speeds.
But I get that you're more concerned with wraps than the actual vehicle.
Not to my taste, but everyone deserves their joy.

native ermine
#

but yeah it was just to show the wrap

round jacinth
#

No. 1) Neither the Ninja 250, 300, or 400 are being made anymore. They immediately proceeded each other and are all now replaced by the 500. And 2) Neither the 250 or 300 was really ever appropriate for North American roads. They just don't make enough power to comfortably sit at highway speeds, much less have enough leftover to pass. Which with a motorcycle, is a very important thing for the sake of defensive riding. You need to be on constant alert, always ready to quickly get yourself out of a bad position.
Which with inattentive drivers these days, means some checked out commuter that doesn't even notice they're merging right into you.

native ermine
#

i dissagree with they don't have "enough power" there light weight and nimble as well

#

also i know the 300 isn't being made anymore... but as someone who's never ridden a motorcycle i don't need a big powerful bike

round jacinth
#

Picking up a used Ninja 400 is an absolutely awesome way to get into riding though. They're relatively cheap. Almost always first bikes for others, so you're getting something broken in, but generally not wailed on. And thanks to the Ninja 500 existing, the used prices are kept even lower these days.

native ermine
#

plus im not looking to commute on one

native ermine
#

400 don't like the look of and if i want more power i can always mod to make more power

round jacinth
#

Dude. None of these bikes are "big and powerful". We're talking about bikes barely capable of doing triple digits while in a full tuck, and enough time in a straight line to boil an egg.
To be clear, that might still sound like "Well of course I don't need to go 100 mph! But it's not about top speeds. It's about the bike being comfortably capable of maintaining 75-85 mph without having to pin it.

native ermine

Yes. You do need a bike capable of 100 mph because whether you realize it or not, a bike capable of less, will struggle at 80 mph.
And as I've already stated, you don't want to be in a dangerous position and find out you've got nothing left to extract yourself with.
As for "it depends on how much highway-" no, it doesn't. None of these baby sport bikes are capable or comfortable for doing big highway miles. This is still just to manage short, hr or less stints on the highway.

No one was "mansplaining" anything. Maybe scroll up for a bit more context? I was being repeatedly attacked and cursed at by a child that needlessly felt embarrassed or defensive about showing off photos of a motorcycle without a clue what it was.
It's just childish insecurity when someone decides to take offense to basic, well-meaning advice because they don't know what they're talking about, and would rather explode into completely uncalled for outrage than to simply consider the new information in the spirit that it's given. Isn't that why they're here? Why else would you post about it on a public forum?
Regardless of gender, which I didn't know or care about, because gender had no bearing on the subject.

#

A Rebel 500 is a perfectly reasonable beginner bike for an aspiring cruiser rider or very short person because it's very low to the ground, with low center of gravity and approachable seat height. But it's still a bit underpowered for the amount of weight it's being asked to move, and more so than cars, power-to-weight ratios matter more than just HP.
So while it's still a perfectly reasonable beginner friendly bike for almost anyone, it's not going to be nearly as fun to ride or last as long in your garage, as something with a bit more power or less weight.

round jacinth
# pure pond 500, a 1000cc isnt a beginner bike

Normally you're completely right, but the Rebel 1100 is absolutely nothing like other 1000cc+ bikes, and while not necessary for a beginner, isn't going to kill them either. Many larger, older individuals would be perfectly fine on a Rebel 1100. But that's about the only modern 1000cc+ bike that I'd suggest for a beginner.

#

Its really not about displacement as much as actual hp/tq and power delivery.
In general, if you want to start out safely, get good (and safe) quickly, you want the lightest 40ish hp bike you can find. Some minor exceptions to that are exceptionally light dual sports like a CRF300L or KLX300, which despite being only ~27 hp, are light enough to (mostly) overcome the power deficiency.
These bikes make fantastic beginner bikes, despite not being the most fun to take onto highways, because what they lack in high speed capability and stability, they more than make up for in off-road capability.

#

Those look cool. Although I'm not the biggest expert on cruisers. So I have no practical experience with those. But if you're looking in that direction, check out the Kawasaki Eliminator and Vulcan S as well. The Vulkan S is a bit on the heavy side, as generally staying under 400 lbs is better for a beginner, but with as low center of gravity cruisers are, you can handle a bit more weight than say a towering 500 lb Adventure bike or dual sport.

#

A slightly more upright, fun to ride bike in the same vain as the Rebel would be it's close relative the Honda SCL500. It's the same engine, very similar frame, but sits a bit more upright with more sporty ergonomics. Making it more fun to ride while maintaining a Scrambler-y cruiser vibe.

#

There's also the Triumph Bonnevilles, Street Twins (basically a Bonneville) and Trident 660 as well, if you're not dead set on Americana styled cruisers, and dig British standard/naked bike vibes.

Current symptoms are sluggish acceleration during low rpms and rough idle after starting car with car shaking excessively around 1000rpm again with cold engine and revving the car to about 1200rpm makes it shake a lot again. When engine is warm its all smooth and no shaking

prisma frost
#

What’s interesting is that after changing the plugs I had no issues for a week and then suddenly misfires here and there and flashing engine light and then after changing the coils I had no issues for 10 days and then misfires again with the flashing engine light. It’s so annoying, you keep thinking its fixed and then getting pranked by ur own car

merry mason
#

How much did he quote for the sensor ?

prisma frost

All I know is that they’re ordering from VW

And that isn’t always cheap

Is this the MAP sensor?

#

When I search the part number it seems to be but some people in video I saw said it was a MAF sensor

gentle thicket
#

Not all cars run pressure - some run air flow. MAP vs MAF. Personally, I prefer MAP.

austere tangle
#

MAP is better for performance

gentle thicket
#

It's better for forced induction. As long as you have an accurate representation of the amount of air going in, the ECU will manage.

austere tangle
#

MAP is generally good for forced induction or na

#

The location would vary differently depending on the application like for na would be tend to run in the manifold but it is cheaper and more efficient just to throw a maf in the intake

gentle thicket
#

And generally just as effective as MAP for natural aspiration. The problem with forced induction is stuff like blow off valves letting already metered air out of the intake system instead of into the engine.

#

And boost leaks.

#

The part I dislike most about MAF is if you want to change the intake then you're stuck with 'well WTF do I do with this' or buying a vehicle specific intake system that has a prevision for the sensor.

#

dusk ocean
#

macleod is overrated - had one in an LS1 it was kind of terrible

wispy cloak
#

Yeah it wasn't great

#

This xclutch is fantastic

#

It slips nice off the line for normal driving

#

But you can dump it and it'll hold great

dusk ocean
#

yeah looks similar to my UUC

wispy cloak
#

It's rated for 1200lb-ft if I remember right

dusk ocean
#

yeah similar to the carbon uuc twin

#

xclutch looks to use ceramic discs

wispy cloak
#

Yep

dusk ocean
#

they chew the heck out of the floater/flywheel

#

they will work for a while and then one day its like.... no torque clamping

wispy cloak
#

The only weird thing about this car is that the rpm drops so fast during normal driving that you need to blip the throttle on some upshifts

dusk ocean
#

yeah that's what is nice about standalone

#

i let the idle valve chill between shifts

#

it helps keep it from stalling/falling too low between shifts cruising

wispy cloak
#

I'm drive by wire so it just does things

dusk ocean
#

right same thing though

#

if you could control it you can just not let the throttle go below X % when clutch signal is present

wispy cloak
#

Just magically through electronics

dusk ocean
#

so even if you let off the throttle it will still be like 3-5%

wispy cloak
#

No physical cables

dusk ocean
#

yeah i have DBW also

wispy cloak
#

Fancy pants

dusk ocean
#

I still run an idle valve though because my throttle is like 96mm

wispy cloak
#

Ginormous

dusk ocean
#

so when closed it goes from like "no air" to "ok maybe too much' off idle

wispy cloak
#

I'm just glad this isn't one of the hybrid systems

#

With a physical throttle cable AND drive by wire

#

That's how my e39 is

dusk ocean
#

well some cars did a throttle ahead of throttle for DSC

#

my "540" had that

wispy cloak

my company has went through 11 6.7 RAM 3500s in the past 3 years lol

wispy cloak
#

Not that 6.7

#

Ford

tribal sphinx
#

our 6.7s are all having intermitent issues

#

and we had to get 8 whole ass trucks replaced

I'm a d1 mopar hater and I own a hellcat killer TCC_PepePray

all i buy is cheap junk tho so

tribal sphinx
#

we're getting a new dump truck soon I just gotta take the dump bed off the F350 that needs sent back to the dealer

#

(I don't trust my only forklift operator to run a skid steer without ripping a door off the truck or smth)

#

we ordered 5 F350s back in 2024 and 4 of them died within the year and the 5th died recently

#

all related to cam issues, dealer is just accepting to give our money back

wispy cloak
#

The biggest 6.7 issue is fuel system

#

Cp4 moment

lone fern
#

good god i can’t believe they’re still using cp4s

tribal sphinx
#

the duramax is the only truck I've seen stand up to construction and plumbing

#

espically when you have 20 people working nights and 38 in the days

Why can't we just stick with tried and true hpfp solutions

tribal sphinx
#

6.7s are fine if you just tow with them and run them as street cars but when they're getting 1400 pounds of tools put on them 24/7 and 2000+ pounds of trailer weight on them basically 24/7 the engines NEVER hold up to running like that constantly

wispy cloak
#

If I bought that 6.7 I was going to do a cpx kit

#

And probably bigger injectors

so we're reguarly moving hundreds of pounds of metal pipe lol

#

When I worked at a small equipment dealer/rental place we had two main trucks

tribal sphinx
#

but yeah outfitting those trucks with the tools for 4 man teams to run them is pretty hard on them alone

wispy cloak
#

A 24v cummins that was mega clapped and an earlier 6.6 truck

lone fern
#

we just load the fuck out of base model chevy’s and fords (some of which have the 4.3 v6 lmao 😭)

wispy cloak
#

The 24v was on its third trans, had no dash, and no AC but it was a 3500 dually so we used it the most

The 6.6 was just a 2500 and it was too light
