Our Passat PHEV can do around 140-150km on charge during summer which is pretty impressive for PHEV. Also the engine is very efficient for petrol one you get like 5,5l/100km at highway speeds with "empty battery" not to far off diesel one we had before.

My E46 gets maybe 9 L/100km. So the trip I had today would be around 22 liters or so. Costing me almost around 360 SEK.

Same trip in the i3S ran me under 90 SEK.

Even with me doing a short stop to DC charge.

He's trying to turn his hand-me-down Camry into a Civic. He's throwing money down the drain, ruining a perfectly "fine" daily driver. That will lose literally all resale value the minute he cuts into the exhaust.
If he wants a project. He should pick up a better foundation to start with.
If he wants a more fun, better sounding daily driver, he should trade in the ES330 for something like a Golf GTI/R, Audi S4/6, maybe track down a Chevrolet SS or Cadillac CTS-V? Almost anything would be better than an ES330.

He won't get much for it, but if he cuts into the exhaust, he won't get anything for it. Losing resale value isn't the end of the world, but no amount of screwing with the exhaust will make this car sound good or fun to drive. He would just be throwing money away.
