No, you might be thinking of "overdrive", which has nothing to do with torque converters.

The "lockup" feature is independent of any individual gear. It often is used even when shifting gears at higher speeds. Theoretically it could be used in reverse if the manufacturer programmed it to, but that wouldn't be very useful.

The ground effect describes the tendency of a fluid moving at high speed to bump into a nearby perpendicular surface and back into the thing that made the fluid move, providing a bonus interaction force between the two objects the fluid is bumping back and forth into.

In this case, the "thing that made the fluid move" is the engine side of the torque converter, and the "perpendicular surface" is the transmission side of the torque converter.

Basically, its a phenomenon that moving liquid experiences in a confined space that increases the forces between the walls of the combined space more than simply pressure can account for.

There are thousands of these things running around, since about 2010/11. Little work vans. A fully loaded pallet, weighing around 1,000 lbs (453 kg) fits right in the back with a forklift, if you trust the driver. 🙂

I was volunteering at a food bank, and we had just picked up a load of canned food, and the lady that worked at the warehouse told me that she could get that forklift RIGHT in the back. I got my license 6 months now and planning to drive to Austria from the Netherlands alone and its about an 11 hour drive/1000km (Not including breaks), does anyone have any tips?

So that's about a 1100+ km drive, right? My biggest tip: don't drive there in one go, apart from obvious breaks. It'll break you, haha. Plan to stay overnight at a hotel or something. And don't drive for longer than let's say two hours. In between, take short 15/30 minute breaks to stretch, have a drink or just unwind for a moment. Last tip, have fun! The route is absolutely beautiful.

I've driven from and to Austria/Northern Italy numerous of times now and it never fails to entertain. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the road is pretty decent. Maybe not a superior to Dutch asphalt, but still pretty doable.

Oh and also get yourself an emissions sticker if you mean to go in big city centers.
