When I start the car for the first time after a while I tend to hear a squealing noise for a few seconds before it goes away. Could this be a sign that something needs replacing or is this normal? I tried to record the sound but the second time I turned the engine on it was gone so I suspect it only happens after the car has off for a few hours.

I know my timingbelt needs replacing this year considering the interval is between 80k Km and 120k Km but im not sure if the timingbelt would produce such noise. My Polo currently has 115k Km

Might be better off just waiting for the timing belt job then, might be able to tell which pulley is worn by feel once everything is apart or you might choose to just replace them all while you're in there. You could try pulling the accessory belt and then starting the car to see if the squeal goes away, if it still squeals then could be one of the tensioners failing on timing belt, if it goes away then accessory. Could also just pull the timing belt cover and as long as there's no abnormal wear just send it

Basically it's like a little foam pod thats hard to pull air through, so when you're pulling air (intake system open, low vacuum) it doesn't pull air through that pod, but if it sucks water, your vacuum spikes because the filter is blocked so it starts sucking air through the foam pod
