Aluminium IS metal.

hexed kayak
#

Youve never seen an ad for an American truck have you?
They intentionally try to destroy them in alot of advertisements to show how durable they are

pure pond
#

well try bending aluminum back and it breaks

civic spoke
#

Al is a lot more brittle. Bend it, and it cracks and breaks.

#

But like, either way.

#

The Cybertruck is a meme anyways.

I'm going to go ahead and offend more people and call the Tesla Semi a meme as well. KEK

That truck never would have passed crash testing if it was made out of cast aluminum

I gonna bet we arent gonna see a single farmer using a cybertruck for farm work

civic spoke
#

I see lots of BEV trucks on the roads hauling freight already. wiggle

hexed kayak
#

And the trucks ALWAYS survive

pure pond
#

most farmers also want something they can fix them self

#

and if you do anything with a tesla you void the warranty an shit

civic spoke
#

I remember John Deere requiring specialised equipment for repairs. Farmers were in uproar.

pure pond
#

yeah some hacked into it to fix it

hexed kayak
civic spoke
#

Would love a BEV truck, but I'm also realistic with that it wouldn't fit my work, unless I only used it at the same place all the time.

#

And I had the ability to park, and charge it there throughout the nights.

hexed kayak
hexed kayak
civic spoke
#

Thing is, I'm sure EV trucks would save so much in money over diesel.

hexed kayak
civic spoke
#

This was the Volvo FH that I saw.

pure pond
civic spoke
#

For local, and same-same routes. Then you can easily live with the shorter range of EV trucks.
But the other issue is also WEIGHT.

hexed kayak
# hexed kayak ev trucks make more sense than ev cars currently

@civic spoke ev trucka have the predictable downtime needed to not be affected by charging times.
city trucks dont go far enough to use their range and long haul trucks would only have a range of the legal long haul drviving time and then would be charged by the time the driver is legally allowed to drive again

pure pond
#

the truck that edison is making is also interesting but i dont know if they succeed making customer units any time soon

hexed kayak
#

its a off road logging truck its not meant to do commercial trucking
so they will only ever be in forests

civic spoke
# civic spoke This was the Volvo FH that I saw.

This truck is more or less only allowed to haul 10,000 kg. MAYBE 11,000 kg with a lighter bed.
But that instantly drops by 4,500 kg if you're wanting to drive in the city, or anywhere off the highways.

pure pond
civic spoke
#

Time will tell. I'm not holding my breath. tbh

#

I think they said the truck was around 12,500 kg? I believe.

#

The Volvo FH above is just shy of 16,000 kg. But it also has a hooklift.

#

And it's actually in production and road legal. wheeze

@TESLA_winston @ZacksJerryRig This is nothing like hitting a rock. They dropped a 7k pound truck from 7 feet high.

I have a question about my daily. I am slowly learning about cars but idk how to identify this. I drive a 2014 Veloster turbo and when I cold start it I can hear it sputter as the rpm’s ramp down. Sometimes it’s worse than others. The engine never dies but it makes skipping sounds idk how to describe it lol. Question number 2. I want to do my first performance mod which is a cold air intake. Do I need to replace the entire tube system or just the box with the filter in it?

I'm not great at handy work type of stuff but I want different exhaust tips on my muffler, am I able to just cut the muffler at this point and attach new one with a clamp or would it not be strong enough?

native ermine
#

if you just want new exhaust tips you can easily get them as slip ons. the picture you shared is of a muffler assembly which you could attach to your existing down pipe. would just need to make sure the diameter of either pipe fits inside the other

#

then a clamp would probably do

#

also to make sure that the hangers line up properly so your not dragging the exhaust on the ground

fathom socket
#

I already got that muffler and new exhaust setup just want new tips

#

thx for the info

#

and ye the way I phrased it was odd. Lol like buying a muffler to just get the tips off, nah

#

@native ermine but would u think it has enough room for the clamp to stay on neatly?

native ermine
#

it depends, a lot of the time exhaust tips have a retention screw that just is pressure tight. if your really worried about it falling off tho you can always drill a hole into the stock tip underneath.

True thx

at some point in the car’s life it sent out a data packet that included the car’s speed. They won’t tell me when or where so I don’t know how relevant it is, but they said the car had gone 114 mph and that is abuse of the vehicle. They don’t care that the car comes with a track day, it’s abused as soon as it’s over a certain speed

No, it'll be fine. The point of that bottle even is to hold excess coolant. The fact that you have one means that it's pressurized, which means any excess will vent naturally if there's too much, the worst consequence of which will be a slight mess that will evaporate and stain stuff but not cause any problems. Tho I'd only expect that to happen if the line of coolant were a couple cm away from the top when cold tbh

Power is provided by a dual motor all-wheel drive system that produces 456 hp (340 kW / 462 PS) and 404 lb-ft (547 Nm) of torque. However, a PowerShot feature can increase the output to 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS) for 15 seconds at a time.
Double the price of my car for double the motors and over double the specs.

My next car is hypothetically a project car.

dull heron

im trying not to do too much to the jetta while its my only car

dull heron

my two candidates for a next vehicle are a kawasaki 600/650cc or a porsche 911 996

tepid wing
#

Yeah that's a way different direction.

dull heron
#

lmao

tepid wing
#

I'm thinking a Civic or Corolla or something understated like that.

dull heron
#

yeah the porsche 996 is a car from like 1997-2006 i believe, kawasaki is a bike. i dont know a ton about bikes yet but they seem fun

tepid wing

I don't plan on ever getting a motorcycle.

#

I had one do some lane splitting around me today and that makes me so nervous.

#

I gotta go do stuff.

dull heron
#

this is my car

#

fun to drive ✅
can drive for fun? ❌

#

thus i dont think i would want an ev currently. it wouldnt change anything about that

#

evs are cool because foot on floor go brr, but i want something i can take out to have a great time. i think a porsche or bike would do that since porsche 911 is thought of as the best engineered car, while a bike is just little weight for the power given

tepid wing
#

I wonder what people like you would think about the upcoming Toyotas.

#

They have someone like that in charge of the fake manual EVs IIRC.

dull heron
#

toyota isnt making EVs

#

they only do gas and hybrids

tepid wing
dull heron
#

but i did hear about that manual thing, it does sound interesting. the kind of thing that doesnt make much sense but is an added comfort. Like how CVTs simulate gear shifts instead of just continuously changing

tepid wing
#

Mostly in European countries though.

dull heron
#

ah i see

#

yeah i know they dont do ev in NA

#

or USA at least

tepid wing
#

If their solid state battery tech pans out I might end up with a Toyota for my next car in a decade+.

#

They have like one or two now.

dull heron
#

another reason i wouldnt really want an EV is just cause i normally buy second hand cars

tepid wing
#

My family has had really bad luck with them.

dull heron
#

i would not buy a brand new car unless it was something really special.

#

i dont live in the rust belt and i know how to build a car so im not worried about buying used

tepid wing
#

The last second hang car we got had the transmission blow up within a year of getting it, before that I don't remember because I was too young.

#

I was up in prime rust belt territory.

dull heron
#

yeah doesnt seem fun

#

but i wouldnt really buy a used EV, because of battery health. so theres almost no reason for me to get one

tepid wing
#

Yeah that's a valid concern.

#

Apparently the Bolt one can stand some abuse but I'm not going to test that.

#

Because that could just be dumb luck and they happened to get a golden battery pack.

#

The plan for this one is to eventually replace the battery with a new better one and hopefully find a nice motor swap to make it more powerful because 10+ years of development would have happened.

dull heron
#

well lithium batteries degrade over time

tepid wing
#

Yeah.

#

I have an 8 year 100K warranty on it so I'm not too worried, but I'm not expecting miracles either.

dull heron
#

not even worth that kind of upgrade. they dont make EVs to be modular and upgradable, no point in going through that effort for a chevy bolt imo

#

8 years and only 100k miles?

#

thats weird

#

ehhh wait no that does sound right

tepid wing
#

I'm pretty sure that's the warranty.

dull heron
#

yeah, i forgot its typically 12k miles a year warranty

tepid wing
#

It's not exactly meant for cross country even though it can do it.

dull heron
#

charging times would add up and be quite unfortunate

tepid wing
#

They aren't too bad.

#

It's like 30-50 minutes every few hours, it's enough driving time that I need to get a little walking in by the time I need to charge.

dull heron
#

its not impossible but not ideal

#

although you would need to carefully plan your route

#

much of the US is rural and doesnt have charging stations

#

like i would probably take the i40 instead of the i80, i80 can be dead af at times

tepid wing
#

I've done a couple of 300 mile road trips already.

dull heron
#

300mi is nothin tbh, thats like 8 hours

tepid wing
#

Worst case you do L1 and this car gets a good amount of charge from it overnight so you can plan around it. Often you can do L2 at trailer parks and similar places too.

#

Yeah, but it's enough to require some L3 charging and the furthest I've driven so far.

dull heron
#

oh i figured you would want to do L3 at charging stations

tepid wing
#

I got onto freeways like 4 months ago.

im 19, ive been driving for 4 years, although 90% of my miles have come from the past year

#

lots of road trips and traveling around town

tepid wing
#

I've had my license for like, 8 or 9 years at this point.

#

Oh yeah going a couple of hours across town doesn't bother me at all.

dull heron
#

every weekend i typically go up to the mountains to go hiking

tepid wing
#

Oh that sounds very nice.

dull heron
#

thats usually like 60 miles one way??

tepid wing

It's so hot here that I either do that in the morning (not mountains) or suffer.

dull heron
#

yeah thats why i escape to mountains

#

its 104 rn at its 6pm

#

and yeah usually morning too, its like 60-70f up there

tepid wing
#

Texas is pretty freaking hot.

#

I wake up at 5:30 for work so it's not a huge issue for me to go.

dull heron
#

i live in one of the hottest cities in the US

tepid wing
#

I grew up in Michigan.

#

The farthest park I've gone to is only 20 miles.

dull heron
#

sounds like you need to do more driving

tepid wing
#

Eh, I need to find places to go.

dull heron
#

the US is one of the best places to live to find stuff to do

#

interesting stuff in every state

#

except like, iowa

tepid wing
#

Or Arkansas unless you were in a couple specific places.

dull heron
#

i think arkansas has a lot of historical stuff though

tepid wing
#

I should go visit more of the museums around here.

#

They have a big famous mud pit.

dull heron

i started rock climbing to get out of the house more, i found a climbing gym nearby, and thats where i go most rn

#

im actually there right now studying

tepid wing
#

Oh fun.

dull heron
tepid wing
#

I'm mad that my schools didn't teach me that stuff but work and life takes up so much that I either need to study math, study programming stuff to try to get a job in my field or go do my own fun things so my mental health is better.

#

I'm trying to teach myself linear algebra stuff right now.

dull heron
#

lots of good resources for that, im learning calculus right now for my engineering degree

#

i dont believe i need linear algebra because i tested out of it

tepid wing
#

Yeah I'm probably going to need to learn that at some point, apparently lambda calculus is useful.

#

I need to be able to do matrix math and junk which is apparently just linear algebra scaled up.

dull heron
#

if you need help with mental health theres two big things that I find most important. Physical fitness directly co-relates to mental fitness, as well as finding a third place. third place other than your home and work. could be a bar, gym, park, any place to socialize that you enjoy spending time at.

tepid wing
#

Yeah I need to find that. I'm planning on going to a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament this weekend.

dull heron
#

card shops are also good for that

#

i got into MTG for a bit and learned about a few local card shops that hold games and tournaments

tepid wing
#

My deck is very silly but it should be decent.

#

It didn't cost me an arm and a leg but man a couple of expensive cards would be nice to have.

dull heron
#

but yeah id definitely recommend checking places like that out.

#

for physical fitness i think hikes are most enjoyable tbh, but i also do weightlifting, calisthenics, and rock climbing

tepid wing
#

I have access to dumbbells, I need to figure them out.

dull heron
#

getting started is the worst part, it gets easy and then fun afterwards

#

anyway, cars are cool

#

i want to get back to performance stuff at some point because ive really only done cosmetics on my jetta, although i got 4 new tires yesterday and they feel amazing

tepid wing
#

Cars are cool and I'm naturally strong enough that I don't need to get stronger even for work. Even though I'm occasionally handling hundreds of pounds of servers. .-.

#

Oh yeah tires are critical.

#

I'm going to have to do research into those at some point.

dull heron
#

my first gear made way too much torque for my old tires and i would always slip

tepid wing
#

I've learned how to not do that.

#

It was really exciting when I kept up to a Porche that was flooring it.

#

I don't know if it was just funny low end torque or me being a better driver or what.

dull heron
#

this isnt my car but same specs and tune

tepid wing
#

I only have first gear which is certainly an interesting experience compared to having gears.

dull heron
#

actually i wonder if you have a CVT

#

or if it is just a motor

tepid wing
#

No it's fixed speed.

dull heron
#

oh i see

tepid wing
#

CVTs on EVa are kinda silly. I only know of one car with one, the prototype Chinese Coda. The Porsche Tycan has a two speed automatic.

dull heron
#

the new one yeah

#

if someone made a performance CVT it would be faster than anything, the problem is it isnt as fun as standard gears, as well as you would need to do something innovative over a standard belt design

misty mantle
dull heron
#

we use CVTs in Baja SAE and Formula SAE cause they are lightweight and optimal

tepid wing

Nah, they are really cool. If someone can manage to make one that is strong enough for stupid torque numbers they'll do great in high performance use cases.

dull heron
#

they are banned in F1

tepid wing

Hypothetically you could optimize the engines a bit more for a more narrow powerband which is cool.

#

F1 bans a lot of cool stuff.

dull heron
