How possible would it be to add devices new to the CAN buses of a car? It would be interesting if (network topology permitting) you could add accessories into different parts of the car and control them from the driver's seat without having to run cables.

Digital clusters are just another expensive part that's inevitably gonna break and will cost a fuck ton to buy and program a new one

Reason why companies are using screens for everything now is because it's cheaper for them.

Hah. Love how Ottie and I are sorta saying different things. kekw

#

did it hurt the engine?

fair moon
#

why are you shifting at 2k

#

there's no way you have any sort of powerband

#

3k is fine

#

like literally fine

#

the engine has a limiter that stops it from revving higher than designed

#

in fact with most motors only running it at low revs the entire life of the motor won't be as good for it

#

they need to spin fast sometimes

pure pond
#

its a 1.9tdi its gonna be fine sometime i push mine harder 😂 cant always shift when offroading

hard sandal
fair moon
#

6,000 RPM is 6,000 RPM

#

RPM doesn't change because of the fuel you're using

#

Redline is lower on diesel engines because they

  • make more low-end torque
  • internals can't handle high RPM and high torque
tepid wing
#
  • Are just built differently in general
terse raptor
# fair moon No????

You can still compare the 2? Maybe his point wasn't the best but you don't see many diesels with a redline past 4k, many gas engines have a redline at 6-7k, you don't rev as high to shift as when I owned my diesel truck it would shift at around 2k unless I was stepping on it where as I shift my mustang between 3-4k while normal driving

#

Just like going over 7k stresses gas engines, going over 3-4k stresses diesel engines

#

Or whatever the redline is

hard sandal
#

It’s a high rpm for the engine you don’t need to be at that high of an rpm before you shift everytime

fathom socket
#

Whatever the redline is, revving your engine once in a while won't kill it... Use the available power when you need it, and shift to the right gear when you don't.

hard sandal
#

Revving it occasionally isn’t bad but unless it’s a dedicated race vehicle it’s not meant to live at that high of an rpm

misty mantle
#

I let off the gas, push the clutch in, shift, let the clutch out, then get back on the gas when up-shifting

misty mantle
fair moon
#

Again

#

Rods, bore, stroke, weight of the crank, timing, oil system

#

So many things can affect RPM limit

#

mostly oiling and conrods/stroke

#

Old engines don't like revving high, even if they're small displacement

#

Newer engines that are small might also not like revving

#

Some do

#

there are a lot of things that can go into the choice of Redline

#

And sometimes it isn't even how much the motor can handle

#

sometimes it's because you get valve float or significant power loss at high RPMs

The McLaren F1 and the GMA T.50 together on the road for the very first time! Need we say more? Henry Catchpole drives Gordon Murray’s two, three-pedal, three-seat supercars back-to-back. Twin tests simply don’t get any better.

Facts. Though while I think it is undoubtedly superior to the new one, I think the new one is also gorgeous. Sharp and aggressive but while still being smooth and super refined. So many modern supercars are just stealth fighter f22 nighthawk general Shepards. The GT is comparatively so elegant imo

I do sadden somewhat, remembering before the GTE was unveiled that there was speculation they would enter the GT in the LMP/hypercar class. There were some truly stunning (and plausible-looking imo) fan concepts that came out of a leaked promo image:

I bought a new (to me) BMW M6 last week for a wildly good deal. Took it today to a shop to get everything looked over/inspected, have the oil & filter changed, and replace the almost 10 year old tires with brand new Continental EC's. And in spite of how little I paid for it from the dealer, the car has zero rust, no metal was in the oil filter, and every bolt is accounted for.

In other words, it's in good mechanical and physical shape. The worst things about it are:

  • It needs new air filters (which I've ordered already)
  • The front bumper needs new clips, two new fasteners, a new kidney grill on the driver's side, and a repaint (all entirely cosmetic)
  • The infotainment display boot loops on occasion (but works totally fine the majority of the time)

Like I said though this one is in pretty good shape, especially after everything I've done to it over the past week

cause the stock intake draws fresh air from outside the engine bay because it has vets leading to the grill.
