Why I have to disassemble the entire front end to do an oil pan gasket I don’t know but it is stupid, two of the diff mount bolts are behind the upper control arms and the bushings on the uppers are completely shot (half of them are completely missing) so we’re replacing the upper control arms too but they had to come off the farm regardless just had to take the upper ball joints off the knuckle too, all of that to drop the diff so the pan will clear and I still have to take the oil cooler off the block and the shop manual says to drop the starter but I don’t think I actually have to do that from looking at it

It is certainly being used more than it once was. I know that particulalry on the GTI and R a number of suspension and chassis components are aluminum, wheras on normal Golfs they are stamped steel. The performance and weight savings mean there is a good return for using them in chassis components like that.

now the van of my dad, the doblo, after it had it's engine replaced (cause : turbo breaking for the 3rd time and also pressure loss in cylinders), had his engine slowly stopping while he was driving to work, and since then he doesn't trust this van and he's saying that it's too old, but luckily, he's accepting to keeping it for my pleasure (shoutout 2 dad)

the cause of the engine stopping was (and still is) a leak in the sides of the windshield and from there, water pouring slowly on the ECU

and it's also shaking A LOT when the engine is cold and the shaking stops when it warms up

Figured I'd ask here since I'm looking for more opinions. I'm looking at a salvage title 2013 Mustang GT Premium w/ the 401a and brembo brake packages, along with the full glass roof option, either as a project car to restore or as a parts car to yoink all the high option stuff off of. The car itself is salvage, but has never been in a collision so it's structurally straight as an arrow and has zero rust. The title says flood salvage, but there's no sign of water ever being in the cabin and only the engine and possibly the transmission appears to be water damaged. The guy wants $6500 but I could probably negotiate him down, I think it could be fixed for <20k all in, which is a pretty good deal for a Mustang with all these options imo (considering one with all these options would normally be over 30k clean title) but I wanna hear what other people think

Luckily, it's a car that's (semi) local. It's in my hometown and was able to actually personally inspect it while i was out there last weekend. I'm gonna be going back out to inspect it some more this weekend so if there's anything I should look for I'd appreciate it

I put power to it using my car, and most of the electronics I tested worked. LCD Gauge display, cabin lights, power seats (partially), radio, locks, power windows, blinkers, etc. all worked fine. Would still probably wanna replace all the vital wiring and modules just in case

When you go look at it again, try rocking it back and forth then try putting it in 5th and 6th. It may just be the syncros aren't lined up right

This thing is basically my dream car, with all of the top options I want, even down to me not having to do any body work to rebuild her. There are just a lot of little things that concern me that I'd have to look over before considering fully rebuilding it. I still think it would be a good buy for the parts alone though. The glass top I know is worth a lot for people swapping them onto their good cars

I mean, I'm looking for a project tbh. If I wanted something perfect I'd look for a clean title car lmao. The fact that there's no body work required is what's pulling me towards this car in particular. I'd have no issues replacing the entire drivetrain and all the electronics if it means I never have to do body work.

Parts I'd want from it is the head & taillights, pretty much the entire interior, the digital gauge cluster, all of the front end body panels, and a few other bits and pieces

I am specifically looking for a car with all of these options, one that's busted and needs a ton of work so I can get it for cheap and do all the work on myself. And that I don't have to do body work on. Pretty much my forever car. This one met all those criteria, so I guess I looked passed all the red flags

I've done the math, and assuming I get all the parts out of it I want, I'd actually save money by not having to buy them all individually later on. Especially the glasstop. Those cost a pretty penny nowadays. So I at the very least wouldn't be losing money on it, even if it's hopeless to rebuild, it'll still be a good donor.
