I suspect the transmission solenoid, or MAF sensor or vacuum line

MAF is fairly easy to replace (or even trying to clean it might help), vacuum line you can check with either smoke or just listen for a hissing... Transmission solenoid is a bit more difficult

Yea, we're just gonna disagree on that. While they can last (especially old steel wheels), metal fatigue is a real thing. This is even more true when you're looking at light weight motorsport oriented wheels.

Additionally, I just don't think old OEM wheels on a Mk 8 Golf R is a look I'd go for. Everyone is entitled to their own thing, but I think that would come off as a "these are my winter wheels", or "I already curbed my OEMs"...just not a look I'd associate positively with a current gen vehicle.

Sure, you do you! After I put another winter on them next year, you can pick up my used 19" Estoril wheels (R logo'd unlike this pic) ... Those Yaris wheels are a nice look, but without looking I'm pretty confident they weigh more than my selection. Doesn't really matter though. I prefer the look of good aftermarket wheels, and think using OEM ones looks a bit budget.

The metal fatigue on a wheel is damn near irrelevant for over 90% of wheels, exceptions being extremely high horsepower racing (pro-mod, top fuel, funny car) or high level professional racing (such as F1, formula drift, or other similar types of racing) I promise you that there is nothing wrong with old wheels as long as they are rusted or have been warped at some point in time. You have to be doing something insane to have any noticeable fatigue on wheels outside of curbing and cracking from say a pothole

My gf wrecked her car and had a passat as a rental and every time we stopped in traffic it would start chiming and try to turn on the assisted parallel parking

the lane keep stuff is simply never turned on...that's like a "how to make your car feel like it's broken" button.

I haven't had problems with the sensors activating when I don't want them, other than when there's snow involved, and that's most brands, and easily dealt with in the moment.

(I accidentally activated lane assist once, and thought that I had a wheel coming lose because of it... I loath that feature)

Yea, it pulls you into lanes you don't want to be in, and resists you changing into ones you do want to go into... I hate it

I will say, I had a Subaru as a rental a couple years ago, and it also sucked at that. Additionally, its highbeam assist seemed intent on blinding drivers (had to figure out how to turn that off it was so bad)...(and it didn't have the tap for "convenince turn signal" feature that I love

like its actually more cost effective at that point for me to buy the cobalt ss with 200 miles that sold a few years ago for 15k and just pull the trans from that car and throw the rest of the car away
