they have these cool cheap devices that can check tire pressure and they never break
could buy 100 of those for the price of one sensor
Unfortunately the rdc is tied in with the body modules and other jazz it keeps popping up on the Hud super annoying Also turns off the dynamic drive
maybe ill just rebuild my old stuff
It's the wife's suv
We took it cause raining bad and she's got better tread on her tires than my car
Had to take son to hospital had fever of 104.4
that is when you have the funny dreams
We put him in the shower to bring it down then rushed here
There saying the flu
Lol
I'm waiting out side cause apparently only one parent is alowwed in cause covid is back or we
im glad im more tolerant to heat than most people otherwise it would have made me dumber
florida
NC
Damn
Then the antenna is another 300$
Is the same for all models
That's like 700$ total
💀
Probably cheaper than going through the dealer
i think i could refresh the engine in my car for $700
yep. i think ill just rebuild what i got forever
Maybe I can get my extended warranty to fix
some of my really old cars you can refresh/rebuild the transmission for about $15
Then I only have to pay 100$ deductible
One thing I can say good about this vehicle it gets really good fuel mileage
Being that's its a diesel
With twin turbos
And awd
Inline 6. 3.0L
i was considering getting a used si and disabling a bunch of the modern stuff
tire sensors? gone
rev hang? gone
tiny intercooler? gone
I hit a big hole and all my cats and egr and Def fluid tank fell off lol
Cough cough
i want a type r but im not paying 50k for that
i was thinking about putting better rods and bearings in it so that 1.5l doesnt blow out the bottom and max out the stock turbo
That's with a proper clean tune
or, i could put all that mmoney into the 90s honda i have and go faster
i didnt want to fight it a bunch so i was going to keep it mostly stock
was considering just a cam
maybe some head work
But they recommend going 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust if going with k motor
Cause of the valve overlap
And cam degree
other thing i could do is a b16 swap but i think a delsol is sort of a classic car now might make sense to keep the original engine
True
i do have the best d series to build though
I'll stick with my car my genesis g80 sport 3.3t awd
When I bought it I give the bmw x5md to the wife
Since she always wanted an x5 suv
its kind of funny i make about 100hp to the wheels and it pulls better than the newer turbo si cars on the highway
U should check carmax the had here 2 identical type r on the lot for 30k used
i know its not a good investment buying a new car but it will do so much better in a car crash compared to a delsol
i might keep my eye open for some repo special lol
I can make smashed cars look like new
Lol
the type r is about as fast as a labo countach
from 87
also 4 door car is nice to have
i think those have two tiny trunks lol
one of my friends hates how super cars look and also hates the countach
if i had money and had to buy one, id probably get this one
backing up probably sucks in those
hmmm i wonder if there is kit cars that are convincing enough
best cars are beater shitboxes with too many mods. Or a Polski Fiat
tell your friend that his opinion sucks because the 488 pista is probably one of the best looking supercars
he does like the pantera
but thats about it
Lol and the Pantera has a Ford PowerPlant in it.
RIP To my snowmobile this season. Lost all compression on the PTO side cylinder 3 miles into my first test run.
Gotta drop nearly $2000 on a full rebuild now
This fucker. Got towed back by a Honda, as it should be
Got towed from its grave by a Honda AND got towed back to the house by a Honda
Polaris things

too bad honda doesnt make a snowmobile lmao
They made 1. The White Fox. Only sold in '73, then recalled and destroyed without explanation. A few still exist, though.
Here at the museum, vintage snowmobiles move through here very often. Some are here on loan, while some come here to make their home. We do try hard to keep our snowmobiles up-to-date on our website and hope you like all the vast historical information
I'd love to get my hands on one since I'm a honda guy
I just found out that GM sold the GMT-400 ‘burbs in Australia in RHD and under Holden.
based suv
honda thing to do tbh
All in all, they're great trucks on a pretty damn good platform for being GM. Can't say the same about that automatic transmission that got put in 'em, though
If I end up inheriting my Grandpas '96, I'm probably gonna drive it until the transmission goes, then find 5-speed manual donor C2500 to take the transmission from
tony soprano my favorite 1999 chevrolet suburban driver
i'm a child! This is my favorite thing i've ever done

Not had alloy wheels on something in a long time
do need a new phone so I can take photos again
@charred depot do you think the Peugeot could spool a 58mm
People fit ridiculous stuff to these, at 7000rpm it probably could
well not these but these engines
I dont gov mod mine like that as its generally what kills them but they can rev insanely well for a diesel almost petrol like
idi so you dont have the "lack of heat issues?" you do on a di with rpm like that
theres some science behind why di's cant rev like idi I dont fully remember
The 2024 992 911 Turbo S
If you want the PLAID: https://crsnbds.com/mkbhd-plaid
You either love them or hate them
hate
wait what i thought those were electric too
ah nope not that one a different hyundai i was thinking of
the ioniq 6
looks like they're ripping off porsche lol
opne of my friends crashed into a poll in the parking lot doing this stuff
The reason for bad quality is it was taken on an old Sony flash camera that used a 3.5 floppy disk.
But to the cars.
The cherry one (it looks black in the photo) is a V8 1987 Chrysler New Yorker with RWD and the white one is a 1991 New Yorker Fifth Avenue :)
He even drove both cars at one point all the way from Toronto - New York City and even back in 2012 he daily drove the 87 New Yorker until he sold it and got a 2009 Impala in its place :’)
the age of everything is a square
My father still has the 91 but it’s rear suspension needs to be repaired
They’re beautiful cars though, especially the interiors, they were basically sofas and so comfortable
that was most american cars until some time later
Haha, lol
they tried to make it like a couch
The seats were comfortable though I’ll give them that, plus they ride pretty smoothly as well in my opinion.
Honestly though, my father was brave daily driving a car from 1987 in an era full of big SUVs and trucks
yep. one reason im looking for a fun modern car.
delsol and 240z are both kind of low cars
Honestly though, my dream car is either the 87 or 91 New Yorker, so many childhood memories 🤩
I remember when my father would pick me up from school in the 87, I felt so cool B)
i did consider make a chevy c60 into a daily driver
just bruit force my way though the shitty drivers
kind of tired of them pulling infront of me in dangerous ways

Autocancelling keeps breaking my indicator heh
its like forcing it beyond where it needs to be forcing me to yank it back into place, will delete auto cancelling anyway as its just useless on British roads.
some new cars have auto up and down.
and the switch is impossible to click it once for the non auto mode
Looks like a Miata, AMG GT, 911 and an Aston made a baby
Fiata. Tbh
Hoodline, A pillar, and the top of the rear reminds me of the Fiata.
The age of the squares
The age where Ford pickups peaked imo
Bench front seats. Those just kinda up and disappeared
aston martin prototype at alton towers
I have so much love for the 3000gt, can't believe a vr-4 came in today
a stupidly clean one at that
nice
hope lego cars count
I dunno.
I swear, everyone has the Mclaren Senna.
You got the Jeep Wrangler too?
not yet
ive got the countach, mclaren f1 and solus, the mclaren f1 car, aston martin db5, and some others
my gf altima we sold the lady never got the title in her name
trying to figure out the law but i think we're about to sell the same car twice fr
not rip lmao that's a free 2k
new suspension for my gmc and performance parts for cavalier
Heres most of my technic collection
I also have the Technic Mustang GT500
nice
I have a bunch of the older (2017-ish) pull-back and release technic sets in my lego bins, as well as a loader set from '03 my parents found brand new back around '13
it's so ugly i love it
gotta love ecotecs
Rust prevention. 🙂
thinking about doing a engine swap what should i put in it
Can you check to see if you can put better Discord servers in it?
sick ass car i would bust if i see it on the streets
it looks like it just came straight out of forza
immaculately clean
don't even get me started on the engine bay
keep the stock engine if its reliable & maybe tune it
Doing any sort of engine swap is a whole ordeal.
What are you supposed to do with the whole drivetrain in general?
why
why what
I don't even mind this? Feels like the rear is super long, though. But I have nothing to compare it with.
I was thinking a 4l60e with a gen 3 5.3 and ford 9inch in the rear
You got to just ask yourself "Do I want to deal with this?".
If the answer is yes, then sure. Go for it. Just know that it will be pretty costly, and take up a whole bunch of time.
I dont think its going to be passing a MOT again.
@civic spoke o ya i know.. but should be worth it in the end i want to take the jeep to the alasken highway
It's different. Therefore bad?
All new cars look the same :^)
Meanwhile you get new cars that look like nothing else...
A very nice Peugeot 305
a tvr
i think it might be leaking oil 🤔
homie, I've never seen a more active leak
when that motor turned over I watched as like 3/4s of a qt just came shooting out as soon as it hit oil pressure
worst headgasket issue I've ever seen in my life
1,9 tdi
That would be a first
Not a car, I found this bus in Gold Bar WA
Ex-sound transit MCI D4500
Built in 2005
My first car 2015 Chevy Camaro
Oh god.
Why do I feel like that has a 8V-71 Detroit Diesel for a power plant
idk
it has a detroit diesel series 60
Computer controlled engine, 🤢
is Cummins ISM a computer controlled engine
Unfortunately
im trying to find a bus here that has a 8v71
A cold start and 18 minutes of full throttle 8V71 two stroke Detroit Diesel.
This one has long since been dismantled, though. Guy sent 'er into a tree just to show how unsafe the bus was to all the people that commented say that the bus could have been restored
Front suspension had collapsed the day before
The finale to the old rotted out Detroit Diesel powered tour bus.

2 stroke 8V71 Detroit Diesel engine runs away with a water hose spraying into the blower.
for some reason id love to see a 924 or 944 1.9 tdi swap

Honder intake noises 😎
Well, “hooning it in the snow” can be ticked off for this year
A lot of EV owners were stuck in a parking lot due to charging woes.

Stupid Teslas
Just goes to show that ICE is still superior, even in cold temps.
Most of the infrastructure is to blame, and not the vehicles being electric.
Works fine in Sweden the most sold car here in 2023 was the Tesla model Y so dividing them in cold temperatures isn't really a problem.
One problem is the stupid low temperatures.
But even there, the issue is more infrastructure than the cars themselves.
Unless you park your cars with a low battery and it tries to use energy to keep it from going INOP.
I would still much rather be trying to start a diesel in negative temps without a block heater than drive a EV
dealt with it before without working glow plugs, only really got down to -10c odd but was a idi so smoked out the entire street heh.
one or two cylinders would get going and the other 2 would be functionally smoke machines
a bit embarrassing to do every morning
I dont use that starter motor anymore but still have it around as a spare, amazingly still worked by the end of it all.
What is the best way to clean a windshield, windows, etc? Any interesting car-hack for that?
Glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth
It's a combination of battery technology still sucking and having to create heat when they normally don't
Where as an ICE is always putting off heat regardless
I just did windex and papertowel lol, it's a window it doesn't really need anything special.
I rarely clean my windows, much less wash my truck
Honestly, Anything with an engine is welcome in here
I manufacture and repair diesel gensets, this one's gotta be my favorite of the engines I work on
What engine is in the pic? Cummins?
We do use Cummins QSX15's but this one's a Deutz TCD2015
Ah
15.9 litre v8 turbo diesel, makes 500kw or 671hp
Well now you've got generators to throw in the mix
This one's going in a diesel switcher locomotive
Well, 3 of them actually
Cat V16 Natural gas genset. My dad installs and operates these
Got 3 of them at this 1 plant
@vagrant gust
Don't ask me how much hp one of these churns out, I cant remember
Shit they're around 3000hp aren't they?
I think so
I know the big v16's that emd and ge make are around 3k hp
These technically aren't even Cat engines. They're made by a german company and Cat just slaps their paint and branding on them
Biggest engines we've used is a cat c18, but those units are out of production now
Thats one of the truck engines, right?
I know FPT makes some engines for cat but they're Italians
Similar, they're tuned differently for the industrial variants we use
All our stuff is off road/industrial
Different emissions requirements and crap like that
Wait, now that I think of it, I think the C15 engines are the truck ones
Most Cat engines are industrial either way. More or less.
I don't think cat does any on road stuff anymore anyway
Or am I just remembering wrong
You're right. They quit doing truck engines in 2010
There is a c15, I think the c18's made it into some heavy haul semi's
The C15 was the last On-road engine they did
Makes sense, dealing with emissions is painful
I know of a guy who bought a tow truck that came with a Cat engine. That's 'bout it.
Some of the aftertreament setups on these engines are about the size of the engine
My grandparents motorhome had a 3126
'03 model year, so pre-emmisions
Was practically still a brand new engine when they sold that motorhome last year, only had about 73,000 miles on it
Here's a genset we just built for BNSF recently. That whole top piece is just the emissions system for it
Sorry for the bad picture lol
Oh yeah that's nothing for those engines
Yee. That motorhome was a magnet for issues, though. When they sold it, the jacks didn't work because a hose blew, the roof leaked, and fiberglass was flaking off the sides
Engine ran mint, though
Oh yeah they're always like that, but that engine will run forever
Fired up without issues
Only engines I ever have trouble with are the Cummins QSX15's
Though it was on its 2nd oil pressure sensor and 2nd rad/rad fan assembly
And 2nd computer
The engine I'm working on right now went for 14k hours before it got a full rebuild, it's going back to the port of Montreal to do it again
It would have went for longer than 14k if they took care of them properly but 14k hours is pretty good
a new heater core plus labor shouldnt be $2500 right??
Sounds about right depending on the vehicle
If its any newer vehicle, the dash has to come completely out
Part itself is around $200 or so, the rest is shop labor
That price is in USD, right?
yea
labor just seems like alot
found there is actually a tsb on this issue
it also says replacing coolant twice is apart of the repair
which adds to parts cost i guess
and looks like it can be done with removing the whole dash, but its a bit more jank
Shop is taking the entire dash out, thats most of the cost right there
yea figures.
Why does my VW change stations in 1 second but my BMW change stations in 0 seconds?
the bmw probably scans through the available stations when the radio is turned on and just jumps between found/known stations
vw doesnt do that presumably so has to scroll along until it hits a good signal
I think muh volvo can do both so its extra kewl
FM or AM station?
Should be instantaneous in the first place lol. Especially AM radio
Mine does nearly every frequency, so I have to scroll through a lot of frequency's before I find the one I'm looking for, aka the local country station. Then I never move it off there.
crank no starts are always fun
had to replace all my grounds, most of my hots, my main wiring harness for the motor, distributor, alternator, battery, sparkplugs, multiple fuses and a relay, and only then would it work
Yeah my truck has a bad battery cable
I cleaned it the other day but it happened again
So I went to start my audi just to find out the battery froze
Which truck tho
Super duty
Ah, I'm guessing the Dakota is still in winter storage?
I tried to start it when it was -4° without plugging it in and it disagreed
6.0 moment
I mean
15w40 basically turns into mud at that temp
It just couldn't crank fast enough
Yeah, true
If it could crank faster it would've started
make sure when you replace it. it doesn't accidentally create a short on the starter lmao
I might just put a new terminal on it
I also need to remember to disconnect both batteries
Nah, just do the terminal with the batterys connected. Be a man
My old boss did that while taking an airbag out
Terrifying
Did it go off?
I did my dizzy cap and rotor without disconnecting my battery
actually now that I think about it, I did the starter and alternator like that too
That only gets power with the key on and coil connected, though
starter and alternator get power no matter what
Yep
i tell you man d series are unkillable
currently running my cam timing about 28° unadvanced and I'm still about 10° off
gets a lil poppy and gurgley but oh well

@feral reef how much snow did you get? Nothing today I guess, but you had snow earlier this week I think?
Comparable to this
We got a little bit.
I measured it, it's about 1.5 index fingers
If we're using American units
This is just a white png
There was a massive ice sheet just at a junction here was wheels locked all the way up to the stop line like o shit
It was nice. I didn't have to clean off my car because of the strong winds.
lol, JK!
Scraping ice off the inside of my car is the worst bit
moisture boxes during winter isnt the most fun
Gotta remove the humidity within the car.
its a 305 thats impossible
humidity has been so bad in the red one for so long the cluster face is rusty
You can use socks filled with cat litter.
Stuff like that is alright if you have a relatively ok car.
I have holes in my floor else I will come back to a swimming pool.
The maroon one is pretty watertight but still does the ice on the inside of windows thing pretty bad
you can see alot of water on my windscreen in this photo, that isnt on the outside its on the inside
it's been almost a year with my car. i've driven it around 5k miles. is it time for an oil change?
Yeah, I would.
Always after 1 year
Running on the same oil that was in the engine when it was removed from a crashed car 4 years ago
And how many miles has it been driven?
Ive done about 2000 miles on that engine, it was installed temporarily while I sort my main one.
Ah, Though I would still change on that oil considering its 4 years old
I go every 100-200 miles on my ATV and every 4000-5000 miles on my truck
its a XUD it'll be fine.,
Well meant 1 year if you don't reach the mileage. Max 1 year
I do my car at ~10k miles, which is 1y 😛
My family has a hyundai i30 which hasnt had a oil change in atleast 5 years, it does 14k miles ever year.
its on 160k miles.
How is that thing still running
I would do a oil change out of goodwill but I am afraid to disturb the ecoystem
Never need an oil change if you just top it off after the oil gets consumed
It does get topped up fairly frequently
That oil pan is bound to have a nice layer of sludge in the bottom
timing chain engine too heh
its a 1.4 petrol, sounds a little like a diesel with rodnock.
It'll be fiiiiiiiine
but its sounded like that for 5 years.
My parents have always spent next to nothing on cars, only the bare minimum to pass an MOT. car before this was a 2002 civic.
Now that you said that, its going to blow up going 70 down the road
civic was scrapped around 2 years ago, engine was still good just all the other stuff.
if I had the welder I do now it would probably still be kicking around heh
Must have been more rust than actual car at that point
Hopefully that engine/trans ended up in another civic
I know people who would have a pretty decent upgrade with a d16 lol
D14s are just noise
Very common here so not worth removing.
kicking myself for not removing the cat, I was expecting the scrap guy to actually glance over the car.
didnt even leave the office
It is annoying seeing engines that would be extremely useful to you being scrapped though
Had a video up on my feed which I immediately recognised as a XUD9TE and it was them prying the timing belt off while it was running : |
I’d have to check the numbers but I think my current interval is something like 9-10k kilometers
Which is think is almost exactly the Mazda recommended interval
I think Mazda is 1Y/20k km
finally some new tyres
Ah yeah they list that as the max
But the indicator for it is likely to come up before that
I wanna install a dashcam, and I'm figuring out what fuse I should use.
My guess is that a 2amp fuse is enough on a 12volt battery. The hardwire kit has an output of 2.4amp/5volt, but doesn't specify an input
So my question, is 2amp fuse good? Or should I use something else?
Especially with european cars you wanna change your oil around 5-6k, with some japanese cars you can get away with 7.5k and be fine
Really depends on what engine
i've always thought the oil change interval with full synthetic is 10k miles. turns out i was totally wrong
10k is really pushing your luck on some cars, while with other cars it's fine
some cars burn a small amount of oil
which can become detrimental if your interval is too long and you don't check
especially with your BMWs/Volkswagens/Audis
10k kms/6k miles maximum, I don't give a damn how much the manufacturers says it can go, or that the bottle of oil says it can do 15k or whatever
Now, if you're burning more than a quart every 250mi or less (blue smoke, oil burning smell?), there's a serious problem
or you drive a mazda
even my celica's fucked engine with non-functioning oil rings burnt less
sometimes it's just fucked up piston rings or a gasket or seal somewhere
I obviously don't mean just replace the engine with a whole new one just because it's burning some oil
if it's BURNING that much oil? Yes there is something seriously wrong
If it's LEAKING that much oil? You've got a bad gasket somewhere
see: blue smoke, oil burning smell
my mr2 burns a lot of oil, but it passes emissions regardless and the cats look fine
but it's a known design flaw in the 1zz
one another note, omg, barcelona is banning my mr2 in february
life sucks
Now you guys are talking about oil anyways, do some brands of oil burn more than others?
I feel like my car uses more oil and I need to top it up myself when I go to a specific garage, but with another shop I don't have to top it up at all and it doesn't seem to use anything.
Dunno if I am going crazy or if this is an actual thing.
same viscosity?
5w30
Both
I'm not sure what brand they both use tho
Or maybe it's just the weather, dunno, not a car expert haha
Yeah, 1.5A or 2A fuse.
I'd take it to a dealer to inspect right after though
or mechanic
Your safety is worth the $50 or $100 they'll charge to inspect it, can do an oil change to so they're working on it anyways.
I'll probably install it with my dad who used to be a mechanic. I'm just doing some research so I know what parts to get, and basic know-how on how to install it
Oil change will be done next month
ok, extra eyes never hurt. Mistakes can be made, even by professionals. I just did mine in the 12V cigarette lighter.
Automatically turns off with the car, so no drain on my battery when the car is off.
I'm supposed to connect one wire to the ACC, and one to BAT. So it detects when the car is on/off
It also stops when the battery goes under 11.4 volts to prevent a dead battery.
(and one to ground of course)
yeah

lexus forever
i don't know about that
Finally met the owner of this Supra that I see driving around
nice
The Mk5 Supra is slept on as a performance car.
some cars don't turn off these when the car is off 😄
It’s wild when I asked him what parts he said a lot and than mentioned it has a stage 2 turbo
Wouldn't surprise me if it had 6-700 hp then.
Didn’t have time to ask, honestly was just standing in line to get food and he was right by me in line. Didn’t know he owned it until I turned around and noticed the car was parked
Seems like a good platform to build from.
i just put down a deposit on a car
finally found the exact spec/options package i wanted in the correct color, and in the right revision
it's like 99% of the RF's are the grand touring trim instead of the club
Miat
Just saw a hummer EV
what's the point of the hummer ev
people who are looking for work horses probably dont care too much about the environment and would want a diesel anyways
regular ev buyers would probably not want a vehicle that utilitarian
and ev enthusiasts would probably want something faster like a taycan turbo or model s plaid
Yet the cyber truck has 2 million pre-orders
have people lost their minds?
Yes, people think larger car is better
dude
imagine parking garages
imagine parallel parking
good luck if you're a pedestrian
Don't have to, I just have to visit one. North America is a crap hole for drivers.
cars are too big
Yes
they have to meet safety standards tho. that's the reason i was given
I want my Subaru Baja back
ngl i've become some what of a jeep JL wrangler fan
It's not regulations though, it's actually just capitalism working, but consumers are uneducated.
i do see that
but im not gonna pretend im more educated than other consumers
but i have preferences. and sedans/wagons are my favorite
Trucks have uses, the majority of truck drivers do not need trucks. California passed a law in early 2000's that made emission regulations dependent on seat counts which ruined mini-trucks and has actually done more harm for the environment than good.
No one needs a 5 seater massive truck. A 3 seater benchseat 2 door truck fits any needs that an SUV can't do.
Was it just California? I thought it was the EPA that fucked the whole system up
with the engine size seat count yada yada that made it cheaper for automakers to make bigger vehicles
Started with Cali.
My family comes from Germany for the most part, it's quite obvious in our driving style and vehicle choices.
By vehicle choices I mean type and size, German cars are pretty unreliable.
@tropic mulch I recently bought a red RF 2023, although Turkey doesn't have the cool options unfortunately, not the 2.0 engine. I got the white interior though, and imo the interior color makes a huge difference. I had a Porsche 911 (06) before this, and I can confidently say the Miat is a better purchase and a more fun ride.
The latest installment on our quest for the best sounding 4 cylinder exhaust.(I don't think this one is it, too loud. too noisy. My head hurts.)

German cars are not bad though
bmw
The b58?
Worse than Japanese or even American cars
Toyota uses the b58 in the supra
It's an amazing engine
and BMW gave the world the M30
You can get to like 600hp with a downpipe and tune
And the M88/S38
on stock internals without any reliability concerns
It's pretty crazy
Also steel body german cars tend to rust less
Because they had much better corrosion resistance from the factory
And are generally just more well-built
My audi had a 20 year corrosion warranty or something crazy like that
after about 1983
yeah but it's generally considered to have gotten significantly better (at least with BMW) after the mid-80s
Still not perfect
But still not Dodge
I don't think there are any steel body german cars anymore
My audi was one of the last ones
German and British cars have good rust control, but German cars are over-engineered and need a ton of maintenance.
British cars do NOT have good rust proofing
And the maintenance is vehicle specific, again
See: M30
OM617
In Canada, with literal tons of road salt. It's extremely easy to find old MGs, Jags, and Triumphs
Flinstone mobiles
What rocker panels?
I'm kinda into British cars
And i can for sure still say they do not have good rust proofing
At least the real british cars
But you can't say the germans can't make reliable cars when people are STILL driving around in 300d's with >300,000mi on an engine that's never had to be rebuilt or touched outside of basic maintenance items like oil and timing
and gaskets
this type shit
These things are KNOWN to be goddamn indestructable
So uh
Hell there are some out there with more than a million miles on the original motor
without it ever having a major failure
Today we attempt to revive a 1973 MG Midget thats sat neglected since 1978!

This is probably the 1 MG midget that doesn't have any rust holes
And the motor was locked up
I haven't done anything that wasn't maintenance on my audi
Never said Germans can't make good engines, every rule has an exception, even the new Fiats are somewhat reliable. But Japanese and American engines on average tend to be more reliable
More so the Japanese engines. Specifically old Honda motorcycle and ATV engines
It also just depends on what you're trying to do
Germany has the whole sport market covered right now
Japanese engines are hands down the most reliable. Porsche makes good engines. American engines are fairly reliable, British engines in my limited experience are good, the rest of Germany's engines are generally decent with a few really good ones, italian cars are italian cars.
When the cars aren't in the shop
But for people that don't care about what they drive as long as it drives the Asian vehicles dominate that market
They generally aren't
From all the years of failures the German manufacturers have found out what works and doesn't work
German engines are just more sensitive to maintenance it seems
if people lack then things go very wrong
Easily, in Canada I always recommend Subaru, being very reliable for AWD vehicles. Or Toyota/Honda to the drivers that understand how to drive a RWD/FWD in foot deep snow.
It would be fun with a Subaru during wintertime.
Toyota and Honda are fwd
corrected
It all depends.
My grandpas old '60-something Honda Trail 55. It had sat in a barn for a few decades before this. I pulled it out, put some gas in it, and kicked it over until it started. Never cleaned the carb
The vast majority
Aye.
the most common ones are (civic accord Camry etc)
I think my sis is travelling to a court date next week with some sketchy-ass winter tires.
don’t they make an awd Camry now?
Probably
The only downside is rust, I live in Ontario which may be very well the worst place on Earth for rust. If I go onto Kijiji and look for Classics it's mostly good condition British cars and garage parked American cars.
Corolla, Prius and RAV4 has also gotten quite common
The 1 reason I like living in Cali is that we don't have to deal with rust
In provinces like Alberta, despite it's many issues the one thing I like is they use sand and not salt. My friend got an Oldsmobile 89 eighty-eight from Alberta and the frame was spotless and he now refuses to drive it during the winter.
I feel him. I too wouldn't want rust destroying a rust-free car
My Subaru is absolutely caked in salt which sucks and I can't wash it cause it's -20 rn and the doors will freeze shut.
Also even if I wash it, it'll just get salt again in 5 minutes.
Luckily, it's like 5 celsius high next week so I can finally wash it
I also get yearly oil-sprays before winter for obvious reason
OR and WA don't use salt either.
distributor in my honda was about to shit itself
bearing was about to lock up or lose its insides
made one good one out of 2 junk ones and advanced timing a little. feels like i got 10% more power
is there more weight on the back than a normal civic?
Never heard of that happening before
its also really cold
you can only turn them like 5 degrees. idk what a few degrees would do tbh
i did slow it down by like 1 degree a few years ago when i was having hella ignition problems
Should I paint my delsol pink and pretend I'm Linus? Lol
@dusk ocean got an engine light for 5 seconds after stepping on the gas to pass someone and it disappeared after that. I couldn't accelerate much and the highest rpm it went after that was 3000-3200 with extremely sluggish throttle response. Drove smooth when off the gas but strong vibrations with any amount of gas with a rough idle when I parked it. I turned it off and on again and the throttle response was fine and engine went to the normal rpm when revved with no shaking. I think it was just in a limp home mode but I also wanted your opinion pls ping when you respond
That video was full throttle as well
Was it a consistent shake like a misfire ?
heh
It was like a shudder. Doesn't feel like a dead cylinder to me
100% consistent when on the throttle and next to zero shake when off the throttle. Only thing that was wrong while idling was the noise
Sounds like shitty sparkplugs. The gap gets wider and misfires with more throttle
Maybe shitty wires if it has them
It was perfectly fine before I stepped on the gas though and there hasn't been any misfires before
It also has 20k km
It can just start happening
That's about how long copper plugs last lol
Factory plugs?
Usually they put good stuff in there
Yes Hyundai Elantra factory plugs
Coil packs could be bad
Don't skii at night in America . Lots of cryptoids come out at night
I think
I have a delsol. Its the best fwd car I had for snow
Probably bad in a crash though
No abs no traction control so you can't just ride the driver assist
Gm execs sure did mess up the Saturn platform
Trades it for a sc and a few months ago a dude didn't yield to traffic and I smashed into him
Lol
One thing I don't get is why people wait until you are 2 seconds from passing then they decide to switch into your lane to pass going 0.25mph faster
Facts
With a c60 I can just pretend my brakes suck and make them sweat
🤣🤣💀
I just about went full Indian bus driver and passed these idiots on the shoulder
Lol
You have to trigger warning that lmfao
I pass a quarry going home from work and there's a really long merge lane because of it so a lot of people will pass on that lane
Dam a whole mile long
this was on a 4 lane with the usual brainlets driving
they perfectly clog all lanes even if its 6 lanes
we have some 2 lanes that expand into 4 lane for passing for a few miles
a lot of times the car in front of me will be trying to pass a truck for miles, get to the passing lanes, then forget that they wanted to pass the truck, passing lane ends, then they try to pass the truck again in shitty 2 lane traffic
really wish i could bump draft them past the slow truck sometimes
also the area i live in id say 50% of the drivers forget to press the gas pedal down more when going up a hill and end up going 10 under half the time
?
then get all pissy when they get passed
Was joking that your wrecked car will give people flashbacks
Oh🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have the same issue. People here will go 60kmh in an 80 zone and then the second they get to the 60 zone they go to 70
Every single timw
oh thats another one we got here, these morons want to go 65mph in a 35, in town, get all impatient and pass, then leaving town they just keep driving 65mph in a 70mph. making everyone wait on their stupid face for a chance to pass.
woaaa its almost like the speedlimit changes
sometimes the cop catches one and gets to write a fat ticket
are these pre installed strut bars?
Yee
how nice of bmw
my engine bay doesnt look like that anymore. i got rid of the engine cover and 2 plastic covers on the side

why lmao
@misty mantle i just found an old video of mu black ss
Noice
Didn't you lose the key to that one? Or was that a different one?
Thats this one
@misty mantle tire sink
She's been sittin
G’day everyone, just bought my first car
2007 Toyota Camry Sportivo
5 spd manual with the 4 cyl 2AZ-FE engine
better heat dissipation
So easy it almost feels illegal
W
Is this much wiggle normal
Its just worn out
That car is a yikes.
My local Ford dealer wanted $50 for a single wiper blade. Got the exact same motorcraft part for $19 on amazon
$31 markup
My dad and I do our own oil changes
My mom is the only one who takes hers to the dealer
I'd much rather fuck something up myself than have the dealer fuck something up and not tell me. I'd also rather not pay labor and extremely marked-up prices on parts.
Only things I'll ever take my truck into a shop for is tires and alignment
My truck is also 3 decades old
Used to be the record holder for the East Coast > West Coast run.

@hexed kayak Cobalt spotted on youtube
wanna see a cool one i saw like 10 years ago
Sure
“Cool”
Wtf is that paint
Look close at the edge of the white on the cobalt you will see it has grey/silver paint
Even the chrome is painted on
No way that was a factory paint option from GM
I dont think it is but i wouldnt be surprised. You could get the base version of these cars in a concerning amount of different paint jobs and decals
You could get factory racing stripes on the base models but not the ss
Wtf lmao
Its almost like the pt cruiser where every 3 months there was some different limited run trim
Chrysler was really trying to sell PT Cruisers.
Someone that goes to my school has one
Cobalt z22
Probably the 2nd or 3rd ugliest car to ever grace the student parking lot
Normal cobalt lt with 2 stickers

those are wheels from a supercharged ss and not the wheels they come with but you can see the badge on the c pillar
This would be the olympic edition
Came with a manual, I guess its got that going for it
Still just a LT though
its the wrong pics though
you can see the ss badge on the door. its the same as my purple car
The olympic edition was ran on the '09 and '10 model years
Wrong pic on the 2010 one too
they were also all painted red
cause canada
No badge
it was optional on all the cobalts like my supercharged ss doesnt have it but my turbo does
curtain airbags were also optional on base models
this car is worse optioned than the silver lt i had
granted mine had a couple oem+ things done
At least it has AC, and a leather wrapped shift handle
And all the chrome thats gonna shine the sun in your face you could want
This car had a 5spd manual ac,sunroof, leather wheel and shifter, fog lights, curtain airbags, and the factory pioneer system with an 8in sub
The stuff i added to it was 2.4 n/a ss bumpers, wheels and skirts and on the interior i put in the front and back seats from a 2010 turbo ss
That car had 370k km on it
Zero rust cause it was covered in like 1/2 an in of undercoat.
There was so much it slowly soaked the bottom of the doors in grease over the winter
Thats what this is
229k miles. Not bad for a what GM probably intended to be a econobox
Alot of those cars go really far
It had the original clutch still in it too.
But if you gave it the beans through first and second when you got to third it started to slip
Shit, thats a hell of a clutch
I just realized why some of them dont have badges
Why?
GM runs forever, I had a Vauxhall Astra that was on 550k miles
Thats the badge in the bag right there. So if you or the dealer never put it on
Ah
Maintain any car and it'll go forever, unless its a certain Subaru engine or a Olds 350 diesel
Speaking of go forever
I now have a renault and the flywheel went, it's only done 90k. Proper looked after it too
This thing will go forever. Its already at 323k now and still no engine light
@misty mantle bolbo
Bolbo indeed
Volvos make the world go round, 5 cylinders at a time
Its not nice enough to start the second the starter spins but it always fires right up no crankinh
Have to hit the key on my truck several times before the starter decides to spin.
Have you checked all your grounds?
Yeah, its just a worn out 30-someodd year old shitbox Ford
Only does it when its really cold out
@hexed kayak My ATV tho....
No hesitation
Just starts up and runs
i used to have a 450cc chinese atv
you had to sacrifice a child to get it to run even when new
Sounds about right
also the rear end fell out of it after a month
How the hell did it do that
chineseum metal. all the wheelies snapped every mount for the rear suspension
Crap metal, crappier welds
the drive home was funny
Not to mention parts support for 90% of all chinese quads doesn't exist
it was barley holding on but still drove so i was going down country back roads in an atv doing a 45 degree crab walk while also riding an atv doing the Carolina squat
Must have been funny watching it go down the road
it wasnt a vey good quad after that
only good for the roads
Even Polaris ATVs are better than most chinese ones, and Polaris ones are absolute shit
i made it hard tail by just welding everything in the rear no suspension at all and then put a little baby sprocket on it for max top speed
Must have been a veeeeery comfy ride
it was a glorified highspeed ride on mower at that point. no joke
lol
riding it was fun though
it was a bit like the old big reds before they got rear suspension
Once I move out, I'm gonna get a Big Red and probably a dirt bike
My mom won't allow me to have either right now
My parents were kinda iffy on me getting a snowmobile
i just found videos of that thing and it was a 250cc and it was weak as fuck
The big red?
my chinese atv
It legit sounds like an old sears riding mower i had
lmao
Weak enough that my snowmobile could probably out-pull it, and that thing has no engine rn
The brakes alone would probably over-power the engine
the chain blowing off on the up hill is funny
Chain said "Fuck this shit, I'm out"
My battery forgot its jacket
Its fucked now
throw it away
I have to bring it in for my warranty
could the woman also be held liable bc she didnt take any evasive action?
Yes. She had a chance to avoid and didn’t.
no signal. that's a bit of a thing in Ontario
especially on the hwy in/out of Toronto. some speed & weave through heavy traffic
Dankpods 💯
Looks like distracted driving
She shouldn’t be allowed to drive
Wouldn't surprise me if they were both held liable for the incident, tbh
But just with this brief interaction. That sure seems like a very emotional individual.
Speeds were plenty low enough to slow down to evade the whole thing.
Appears that as soon as they registered that the other vehicle was moving into their lane, instead of braking, they just broke down.
gotta keep doing it in a car centric society or else a lot of people cant go to work and make money
Could really be that they are a fine driver when driving on their own, not having to take any sort of extra actions
fxcking nimbys
This has happened several times.
refuel may be in order
:(
mazda 6 wagon my beloved
I would own one if they still made them in they US
dude fr
🤔 what happened?
My black cobalt ss slightly caught fire
That was fully on me though
I had a worn battery terminal and the car wouldn’t restart after shutting off cause of it so i put vicegrips on it till i could buy one and they fell off and grounded out the positive terminal on the body of the car while doing 130kph
I got a bunch of burns from putting out a molten plastic fire with my hands and picking up vicegrips and that had who knows how many amps sent through them
damn 😳
Some electrical fire
They fixed it eventually but it smells pretty bad in there
I just had and interesting thought when you said electrical fire
Ev bad people talk about how bad lithium fires are which is valid but ev people come back with gas cars catch fire just as much
But thing is a MASSIVE majority of ice car fires are because of electrical issues not because of them burning fuel
Conclusion: buy a model t so you barley have any electronics
Hate my life. I just want to go home and sleep.
At least lithium burns, and doesn't just go boom
older cars are typically less safe in terms of gas fires upon impact
see: ford pinto
I saw a video once of someone driving a Model T into a wall and the fuel tank just dumped gas everywhere and the engine ignited it
Cars create fires, Lithium does the most environmental damage when on fire and is the most pain in the ass long-term but it'll be slow enough that anyone inside the car can usually escape on time. Hydrogen and Petrol pretty much anyone in the car is screwed.
ever seen a car burn while fully underwater?
My old crew responded to a Tesla towig a boat, and rolled down the ramp and into the water. The Tesla then caught fire and burned while in the water. Hollywood Fire Rescue Engine 40 responded. There were no reported injuries or entrapment.
But I almost see that as an advantage, Hydrogen and Petrol will not usually hurt anyone outside the car, so as long as the car doesn't have a major design flaw it's natural consequences for the driver. Death still sucks, but better the driver than everyone surrounding the driver.
dying in a car fire is wild
you dont even die from the burns half the time. you pass out when the fire sucks all the oxygen out of your car then you suffocate and die then burn or burn and die
you would be surpised how fast fire will take all the oxygen out of an area
not long after i got my license a tanker truck wrecked on the highway and i was close enough that when it all lit up my car stalled out within 5 seconds
I understand more and more that individual transport sucks for everyone else but the person using it. Not matter if gas, electric or anything else.
Only if we as a apecies can bringt the majority of traveling houra per year to mass transport we can truely solve our transportation issues. But since this requires people to reduce their individualism this will probably never happen.
highly European take
if i wanted to take public transport to my home town i will legit be on a train for over a week
even if north america had highspeed rail it would still be many days
Most people these days live in cities. Public transport should be priority 1 for every decently sized city. I live in a rural area myself. I need to rely on my car but if I drive 5 minutes I can go everywhere by train. To the airport in 1h for example.
That is why I said majority. Of transport hours of a country as a whole. If you live somerwher very far away from any bigger city there is no point to bring trains there.
Also, where do you live that it would take days by train? I can ride all across europe in a days worth of train rides.
tf how is it wearing at an angle
Oh, that
Well, I guess rust can help in some ways
I did this right after bragging about how good the suspension is on 305s
lmao
Friend pointed to a dropped kerb "but im in a 305" ramps off high kerb bang
https://www.copart.com/lot/77583233/salvage-2022-ford-f150-supercrew-mi-detroit
Wtf
Its missing the wheels, and because of that its got a salvage title
Nothing else is missing, just the wheels
(Copart, BTW)
scrap it
that thing was submerged is salty sea water guaranteed
Notes:
VEHICLE LOCATED ON GUAM
Probably whats gonna happen to it anyway
guam is slightly bigger than montreal and its just a fucking island in the middle of the ocean
its actually 8x smaller if you include all of urban montreal and not just the main island city
Speaking of stuff that should be scrapped....https://www.copart.com/lot/38151094/salvage-2013-smart-fortwo-pure-nj-trenton
Smart Fourtwo
How that thing is still running is beyond me
Thats a chad automobile for people who want to fuck around
That thing is perfect for a liter bike motor
World's most powerful and fastest smart car doing a burnout and donuts. Smart car with hayabusa turbo engine! brutal exhaust sound!
Hayabusa Smart Car https://www.facebook.com/HayabusaTurbo
Mine was even worse
Look at the crack on left side
Send it
@misty mantle
ooookkkkkkkk
well shit my 2000 4 runner now has a rod knock i changed the oil when i got it i didnt think id have to change the oil after 1500 miles on synthetic grated this car had 315k on it when i got it
Run it 'till it blows. Its a Toyota, it'll probably last another 300k before that rod lets go
I like how Linus posted that one car upgrade video the other day less than a month after I did similar things to my car. I used an ATOTO F7-WE for the head unit and I used the included rear camera.
