friend has a AWD impreza I used to own its on summers so its sorta worse in a way as its moreso unpredictable when it does start sliding

as I say even alot of the luxury stuff going about here is on cheap summer tyres so in winter even my shitbox with the all sneesons is a step up

Have an estate with a full setup of decent winter tyres but calipers stuck on at the moment which isnt the best in slippy conditions

After 6 longs years I finally paid off my 2017 Nissan Sentra. I got it new with 27 miles on it and it now has 119,000 miles. The car still looks just as good as it did when I first bought it.

valid marsh
#

is the motor the same thing as the engine?

valid marsh

thank you. so just different terms for the same thing. synonyms. preference / word choice.

weary trench
#

You never know. Mexico is dangerous. I live in Texas and its guarded pretty tighlty. If they do get ahold of those trucks it could very well be a issue down there.

#

they can get them. they'll find a way.

#

without spending the money on them

#

All I can say is its plausable that they can get ahold of them. Something that could be a issue if it can happen.

#

they have charging stations in Mexico

#

but I also see your point

valid marsh
#

i have added a subjective condition metric to help compare the used vehicles

weary trench
#

I looked it up and there are tons on major highways as needed

#

and they announced last month they are adding another 400 by the end of next year througout Mexico

#

Tesla is teaming up with the goverment to make it happen

#

We got to realize that just like Tesla Model A. its a new venture, we have to go back and remember when the model T was new in the united states. People back then complained that it would not take off and noway to gas up vehichles. It took some decades but it worked itsel out. Electrification will take time so its all a slow process.

stoic ledge
#

Tesla Model A 👀

valid marsh
#

i think EVs are on the come up

#

been doing a lot of research on them, and most of the down sides seem close to being mitigated out

#

the pros definitely out weigh the cons

weary trench
#

Supposedly the model a is is the Tesla Mini that is supposed to be released for lower income families

#

it has yet to be announce

weary trench
#

gas was hard to come by. it took time to make stations

#

same as electric stations. it takes time to get the infustructure together

stoic ledge
weary trench
#

Tesla is essentially the new Model T for the electric car revolution. Just like the Ford Model T was back in the 1900s

weary trench
#

but its still supposed to happen

valid marsh
#

but i think EVs are a niche rn and are a learning curve and arent really known about. people know they exist and know about electric vehicles, but the knowledge surrounding them is sort of gatekeeped which makes them hard to get into initially for a lot of people. i think this upcoming gen of EVs are going to be the start of something much bigger for the EV market. and we might be seeing a turning point in the auto industry, finally. but slowly so maybe in the next 10 to 20 years we will be seeing much more.

like i didnt know they were called EVs and i didnt know about all the charging stuff and range issues.

weary trench
#

it has not been axed off the list fro what research I found thus far

weary trench
#

trust in fires from them is another issue that needs to be addressed

#

but more importantly the cost needs to come down. They are too expensive atm

valid marsh
#

but honestly, i think EVs have the potential to reduce the gas vehicle market cap down to about 60 - 75% dominance in the next 20 years. i think diesel will stick around longer than gas tbh

weary trench
#

most want to keep ICE vehichles aorund but they have run their course

#

its time to move on from ICE vehichles

#

ICE cars are too lound and too large. Especially in America. I am so sick of trucks and SUVs

valid marsh
#

also, if anyone knows anything about innovation and investing. its that, you can't completely stop innovation. if it is TRULLY innovative, you must use constant frequent action / energy to slow down that innovation. sometimes it might even seem like its completely stopped, but after time they can't hold back the fate of the universe forever.

#

if it wasnt innovative, it would just die

weary trench
#

Ice cars have almost ran out of ideas to evolve. you can only make the engine as small as you can. its not easy to do

hearty delta
#

It’s the best thing for them

#

Cartels r usually not so tight on money

valid marsh
#

its same issue with crypto, people dont want crypto to succeed because of their stake in paper money lmao. but the idea of having a unified digital currency is innovative. its not as innovative as electric cars tho. but digital money not just in the form of debit or credit has HUGE innovative implications in the post modern world, not just because of something primitive like currency conversion, but because of it's inherent detached nature from the government. i am a huge proponent of crypto, but most governments hate it because it is inherently anti-government. ultimately, the government can spend energy to slow it down or they can try to adopt it. but i dont think crypto is going to die anytime soon. if anything it's growing massively. just give it time.

hearty delta
#

Still better than most other options for their use case

#

Okay lemme repeat myself

#

Bulletproof, pretty good storage space for guns or drugs or whatever, very very quick

#

Better than most card

valid marsh
#

so i know a truck cab chassis is different than a van cab chasssis but, is there any difference if the cab chassis is used as a base for a box truck?

whats the difference between truck box trucks and van box trucks lol or in otherwords F350 box trucks and E350 box trucks?

stoic ledge
#

I'm sure they have Superchargers in the middle of the cartel area where they can charge them as quickly as they want KEKW

stoic ledge
valid marsh
#

but wouldnt that mean the F series could have a bigger box too and a heavier load all the time?

#

ik the F series is better for towing

#

and ik F series is more commercial

#

but i guess im kind of lacking the benefits of E series over F too

#

cause it kind of seems like
F series is usually in a worse condition from the workers using them, but are even more commercial than E series and result in just a stronger E series

#

the F series i see on marketplace are usually older tho too

#

also, ik box truck form factors come in like 10ft / 14ft / 16ft / 20ft / 22ft / 24ft / 26ft, but is that the length of the box only? or does that refer to the entire length of the box truck?

cause i saw a source say that it was the box only, i thought

but now im only seeing sources that say its the entire length of the van, and the inside box area is a subset of that marketed number length

valid marsh

this stepvan is looking really good,

timber oar
#

Are you steering to the left there or are you just sliding

charred depot
#

just sliding

timber oar
#

That's a big yikes

fossil elbow
#

@valid marsh e-series is purpose built to have a box on them - f series chassis cabs are heavier duty and meant to have anything from a crane body to a wrecker body or even just a box if you want

timber oar
#

At least it sounds like you want to use a truck frame for what is intended for, rather than just looking cool going to the grocery store

fossil elbow
#

e series is shorter and easier to drive, they suck to work on for the most part, and are not built as rugged

#

they have a hell of a lot more body roll, and you probably don't want to be towing very much with it.

F series is going to be more expensive generally, but higher GVW, have options of 4x4, etc. you really dont want to tow with a f series box truck that is loaded down either. The hydraulic brakes on even the brand new f550s kind of blow and are underpowered IMO- but that's the same on any of the pickup style chassis. If you want to do some towing and have a proper medium duty truck frame there is also the f600

#

f650, sorry. f600 is a higher GVW version of the f550. F650 is going to be a proper medium duty straight truck, much heavier duty, most of them have air brakes which is a huge upgrade and is way safer and more comfortable to drive with weight. if you're in the US as long as your GVW is under 26,000 pounds you dont need a CDL (even with airbrakes).

civic spoke
#

Hot-shot drivers and similar.

#

I wonder how different they can charge compared to CDL drivers.

fossil elbow
#

hotshot is actually more lucrative for most people right now

#

freight prices are shit

#

with the modern capabilities and GVW's of these new hd pickup trucks, most guys that are trying to make any actual money need a CDL

civic spoke

fossil elbow
#

whats the benefit

civic spoke
#

No need to go outside or anything to pick it up.

#

Prefer the cabover, being the European I am.

#

So it's just a big hydraulic arm that picks up the containers.

fossil elbow
#

also much easier in tigheter spaces?

#

tighter*

civic spoke
#

Yeah, should be.

fossil elbow
#

yeah i was gonna say- im not sure i've ever seen one here in Florida

civic spoke
#

Since you can also pick them up at angles.

#

I believe that you can only really pickup normal roll-off's straight?

fossil elbow
#

yeah gotta line up to it

civic spoke
#

Another benefit to hooklifts is when you use trailers.

#

You can have trailers here that hold two containers. And so you can deliver up to 3 containers in one go.

dusky torrent
#

this is very healthy for my engine. i do this every cold start

civic spoke
#

That Volvo is picking up a container from the rear side of a trailer.

dusky torrent
civic spoke
#

That guy's dropping off 3 containers in under 10 minutes.

#

Another advantage is that you can also move the containers around some while they are on the ground. Not really sure if you can do that with normal rolloffs.

These can play nice in a really small box. they work fine in 1 cubic foot sealed or about 1.5^3 ported. throw lots of power at it and you cant get much louder for the space it takes up

i made mine 4 cubic foot tuned to 27 hz. thing plays into the teens and just flexes everything

unfortunately the cheap woofers i liked to use are no longer cheap ever since biden took over

unborn berry
rugged lynx
#

they perform like jbl woofers that cost $240 though so maybe i shouldnt complain too much

#

its impossible to kill the voicecoil on these

#

they just rip the cone

unborn berry

My uncle would like to speak with that speaker rq..

now you can get 3000watts for like $200

unborn berry

Yeah lol

#

7500 for 900

rugged lynx
#

not saving a whole lot with a bandpass these days

rugged lynx

but if you have limited power they are nice

opr like, if you want to port the bass from the trunk, they push all that bass through a small hole

if you sit in the back right seat your nuts will get cold after 20 mins of music cause of it

this is a smaller 6th order im using. amp is only 70 watts. does pretty good

Nope, we get most of our vehicles from the united states. People will buy them from auction and bring them over the border to fix up, then get sold all over central américa. So at the end of the day, the most viable option is maybe just getting a junked car with a stock engine, either the 2.4 or the 2.7 that it had during that run

wispy cloak
#

Ideally if I bought an s4 it'd already have the shift collar fixed

charred depot
#

Its more so they have a awful scuttle drainage system that ruins even "non rusty" examples.

#

basically you end up with a car that turns into a swimming pool every time it rains and not many people want to put up with that

#

this is where 305's rust and even where it looks solid here it is not, as there is insulation on the other side which has trapped water against it. so its 10x worse when looked at from inside the car.

#

Fixing this remotely properly would be windscreen removal, wings off, dash out, cut out dash support from inside car etc.

#

I dont have permanent inside space so a car without a windscreen and whatso is just going to be annoying to work with, I guess I could get a car cover but.

Only three people in the world got to drive the Cybertruck before Tesla's Texas handover event earlier this week: TG's Jack Rix, YouTube tech expert Marques Brownlee aka MKBHD and US car journalist Jason Cammisa. We gather together for a chat about the most controversial vehicle of the decade, whilst Rowan Horncastle asks the the questions the i...

Oh, I know.

The Z3 Coupe is a lovely car. World needs more of those cars.

so it appears that charging your EV with solar panels is possible

someone was able to do it with 7000w of solar panels

coarse jewel
#

yeah, home solar roofs are used for charging quite frequently, and there is evidence for a noticeable range increase on cars using solar roofs (like on the car, not the house)

ok so iv been looking for a car it’ll be a daily driver wanted something different from the car I already have (I’m trading it in) wanted a 4 door something reliable and fun I was looking at the ford focus st/rs, vw golf gti, Subaru wrx, civic si. All are kind of around the same price point and relatively the same performance I just can’t decide which one would be better. Ik the wrx has its issues. I’ll be driving in snow as well so was thinking the st and gti wouldn’t be the best options was looking for a manual if you guys have other options or maybe out of the cars I just said that’d be cool

Yeah. All of this is true.

And if you have a fast enough charger. Then you can just schedule your charging times to happen in the middle of night. After 10 pm or so, where electricity is cheaper.

Either way, solar roofs are still good because the space isn't used anyways and solar is most effective during peak hours which is day time. An optimal clean grid would use nuclear plants for a base-load, batteries and nuclear SMRs for back-ups and covering sudden night-time spikes. And solar is the best option to cover the peak consumption and it's most effective during peak hours.

Plus they're the 2 safest sources of power, and the strain on solar would be reduced by overnight charging increasing the baseload. CANDU reactors are also far more adaptable to changing grid conditions than other nuclear reactors.

Nuclear is great for constant loads. 👌

#

Batteries is what's far and beyond the best at random peaks for small areas.

coarse jewel
#

Sorry, a bit of a tangent, I really like nuclear, specifically Canadian nuclear.

#

Yeah, only downside to batteries is back-ups during extended outages. Which is where SMRs become king.

tons of youtube videos on how to buy a wrecked ev and salvage all its individual modules to use in a solar battery bank

#

and by the end of it it generally doesnt cost much

#

people mainly use teslas and literally the only thing they want is the battery so every other part mainly the bigg $$ ones like the mcu, motors, body panels can all be sold off making the battery cost almost zero depending on how cheap you get it

#

cant wait to see what people will do with the battery packs from the tesla semi once those start getting wrecked and hitting the salvage auctions

I see the Tesla Semi as a bit of a joke. Sadly.

#

Electric trucks work. As long as you operate within the limited range you have with the battery.

hexed kayak
#

because they run out of battery at the same time its no longer legal to drive anymore and can be charged before it is legal to drive again

civic spoke
#

Along with always charging over night. Even if you just have 400 km's of real world range, then that's plenty.

#

Wouldn't even need that, most of the time.

#

Distrobution trucks is also a great option for EV.

rugged lynx

Would take twice as long to transport something just because you need to charge

civic spoke
heavy lake
#

Which means your really only going to be transporting things in a 200 mile radius

civic spoke
#

Which sometimes is plenty. To and from depots, local distrobution, etc.

#

Or anything where you usually idle for hours upon hours.

#

Picking up containers from ports, etc.

heavy lake
#

Depends I mean you may be transporting something across the country so why need to stop at another wear house

civic spoke
#

And that's where EV trucks fall apart. They can not ever do over the road like diesel trucks.

heavy lake
#

you’d need to basically unload everything on a fully fueled truck and have that drive down to another facility

I drive a dump truck for a living. And the highest range EV's they have is like 300 km's. A bit less than 200 miles.

i wonder if i could figure out how to make hydrogen even though its inefficient. no shitty batteries in landfills

civic spoke

There are many days when those 300 km's would be more than enough. Other days it wouldn't be enough.
