i heard that some of the saturns do that. they are the same platform as a cobalt
pretty sure non of the cobalts motors have any embedded sensors
they came from the factory with forged cranks
and forged rods
newer gens of this motor are the 4cyl you get in the camaro

Yeah dude is a little much
the clamps on the coolant reservoir are the exact correct type and clocked how they would have been from the factory. that's when you know
"OK dude, wait for the expansion tank to crack... LIKE STOCK"
no
he would not have enjoyed mine
he labeled the wiring
"I just wanted to do that"
Confusing
$230k appraisal lol
I mean E30 M3s do go for insane figures... but I almost feel like his is so "redone" that its modified
- the leather is not supposed to look like that 2) he's in that creepy "stuffed animal thing" mode
Disappointing rear shelf
Japanese.
Here's it in the engine bay.
It's only half and from a different company.
It's an L28.
Bored out to 3.1L
LD28 crank.
The head is semi-custom.
how on earth does that look like a v12 to you?
He probably counted the ITBs as exhaust?
still, how does that look anything like a v12 lol
but they mentioned one specific v12, which looks absolutely nothing like that in any possible way
True.
My passion is sub-1L motors though.
Let's talk Daihatsu.
no
no
It's the J series no one knows.
The JB-DET makes good noises.
This 1994 Daihatsu Mira Avanzato was not what I was expecting. This 4 Cylinder turbo hot hatch is incredibly raw and much faster than I imagined a hot hatch Kei Car could be.

Not a Daihatsu, but still a nice van.
https://youtu.be/0bbqmTE_5I4
The Honda Acty Street Van is the perfect Kei car for your daily duties around town. Not only is it practical, but it is a joy to drive due to its silky smooth gearbox and strong brakes. 38 horsepower may not sound like a lot, and it isn't. This NA 3 cylinder engine is the least powerful Kei I have driven but it still packs plenty of character. T...
i dont know why, but the firing order on the head is a turn on for me
what in the fuck

I believe that a trucking term is in the filter. What some trucks have to deaccelerate.
Jacobs brakes?
aka jakes?
jake brakes?
compression release engine brakes?
R-tarder
never heard that term in my life
ah, so it's a kind of fluid brake
seems like the primary use is for slowing down on hills, which like
why not just downshift and use a jake lol
Jake brake iirc is quite different with how r tarder works
jake brake uses your engine to create the resistance
and the tarder uses a specific component to do it
yeah, compression brake vs a fluid brake that works the same way as a torque converter
tho their terms are frequently interchanged
There are some r tarders that uses electromagnetic mechanisms to slow down actually
Jake brakes are better because BRBRBRBRBRBRBRBR
jake break largely just refers to the engine braking
like how leaving your car gears in 4th gear eventually slows you down
because at that point it's your wheels turning the engine
not your engine turning the wheel when a power stroke is produced
it's different
Jake brakes do things with the valves so the engine does way more braking than normal
it uses the engine's compression to slow the truck down
thats literally what I said
iirc some cars out there actually prevents compression braking from happening by leaving the valves slightly open
so that the air being pushed / sucked in or out have somewhere to go instead of producing resistance
Does anyone know how to add a turbo to an engines intake?
Well I wanna add a turbo to my lister but idk how to add one in
Or if it would work
probably would
Cuz the carburettor is kinda odd
in theory you could make it work but i doubt there's something that would be sized properly for it
fucking send it
if you have the expertise and bodgery skills to adapt them to the exhaust of your lister engine then probably
meh you'd probably have problems with getting your carb to work nicely with your turbo
is that a single piston?
it will probably disassemble itself before you can actually strap a turbo on that
Yh itās a single piston
I have no idea why cars need their tires rotated
for their wear pattern
you honestly don't really need to tbh
What's wear pattern
but if you want consistent patern you should rotate them every 5k or so
I fucked up when i first got my car
You mean this?
I didn't rotate it after doing 20k so it became abit fucked
Someoneās actually strapped a turbo to the same lister as me
not quite
you know those treads on your tyres
over the years they separate / go into one side
due to regular use
when you swap them around it kinda helps with that
making sure that it goes the other way
if you drive a fwd it's not as relevant as you can just swap your front tires
but on rwd and awd you have to do it
So let's say someone has a RWD car with wider rear tires and thinner front tires. Would rotating them put the wider rear tires on the front and the thinner front tires on the rear?
here's an article that explains it better than i would
Man, I don't understand
Sports cars have wider rear tires than front tires
I don't understand why someone would rotate the thinner front tires to the back of a RWD car
Speaking of tires, I think mine are worn. I'll show you
bro
did you hit a pot hole
or curb rash it?
That shit looks like it's bulging
like a sidewall bulge
it's different, you're better off swapping them rear wheels
but in this case replace your goddamn tyres
i bought it like that
like the car?
or the tyres?
I mean get second opinions but I don't think that is safe at all
one bad pothole and your bead could go
I wouldnt bother with rotating tyres
I dont think mini tyres are that expensive anyways
I hear US people speak of it all the time but in the UK and I think alot of europe its not that common.
most people on the volvo forums suggest it tbf
but they're obviously not commoners
Most shitters develop decent rear camber over time and when you put those tyres on the front wheels you have very little grip till 100-1000 miles when they finally bed in
tru
speak from experience, friend had a similar issue on a volvo V50
If you get a garage in the UK to fit a pair of tyres on a normie car and they bother to move wheels about they will usually just put the best wheels on the rear with the idea being that its better for cars to be understeery for bozo's
exploring in the bombodore
Depends on the car
I have done this lol
when i was done i found out my tub was still cleaner than my neighbors tub.
they moved out and got to do a walk through after they were gone
I'm running 225/45R17 square in the summer so that I don't have to bother with more expensive tires and a staggered setup.
you are one pothole away from a very bad day
Shoutout Jeep
The only brand I know that puts valve covers made of plastic on cars
if only there was a better material
Thatās been used since the cars inception that would be more durable
Man I just canāt put my finger on it lol
only? almost all cars have plastic valve covers now
I was thinking the same lol
Thatās dumb
There are cars with plastic oil pans, too.
its also not even new. i saw my first one in 09
I think GM already used it in like 2001

I know the Corsa C had a plastic Valve cover on the Z12XE, and that's 2001 I think
Older version X12XE, basically same engine , was not in plastic
Those brakes look brand new
This doesn't sound/look like the end of the world?
I hit a kerb
Sounded like it couldāve been wheel bearing or the rim/tyre but yea now that Iāve actually gotten it up itās seems like itās somethin less problematic
got my taser dt and set it up and went for a drive in the mountains shit looks clean
That's a really nice truck.
Been years since I posted any of my cars or posted at all. Picked this up in June and its been fun driving it and pretty damn easy to mod. Let's see how it holds up.
I have 2 Hyundais and 3 VW's lol.
Which Hyundai is 2012-2022?
23
Both?
yes
How's the Ioniq?
I fucking love it. So smooth.
I leased it for 3 years because I am an idiot and want the N version LOL
I've heard that there is issues with the 1-pedal mode where it doesn't properly use the brake light when using the regen braking. Happen to you?
That has been fixed via an update a bit ago
Nice.
like a month after I bought it
How many years of software support?
Iccu update and havne't had any charging problems
Nice.
I think 5 years with the bluelink and 2 years free charging with EA
Oh, I don't mean that. I mean how many years is Hyundai going to support the Iconiq with software updates?
Oh, I honestly do not know.
At least I can do them via usb so far for the map and media stuff.
I like that
True.
i really hate it
Lemme guess, ur a supra kid
Not really anything too special in my eyes.
Bags, rims, and kit with a wing and side skirts, etc.
I'm in the "Less is more" camp.
@stoic ledge Front PDC is done, works just like in the Zafira B
nice
Makes sense it works like the Zafira B... As it probably is the same part and BCM as the Zafira B?
Is it also as crazy loud as on the Astra K
Yup, just a different code index
Front beeps via the CIM, rear via a speaker
Had to retrofit that one
Oh, and something pretty neat, I retrofitted the foldable bench from the caravan into my 5dr @stoic ledge
Hmm why? I always find those quite annoying lol, but mostly because it never fits as my seat is all the way back
Bruh looks sketchy
Isn't that @charred depot in a nutshell?
Fact
Itās way better than the old one
The 5dr bench is fixed
And youāll have to maneuver it into the clips in an awkward way
Last time I had to remove it, it took me more than an hour to get it properly reinstalled
Now itās just folding the seats up and removing them from the hinges
Maybe with a engine in but its made safe now that the engine has been dropped out : )
And the rear now folds down flat
I'm not often needing to take out the rear bench so I'm not feeling your frustration xP
^^
Turbo engine will go in tomorrow where I will find out it has a blown headgasket or something.
Itās more a, if I need to, I can do it now. And it was REALLY useful when I transported my summer wheels into storage
So much more Spaceā¦
For that I'll now steal my parents "new" Karoq, there you just take out the entire rear seats
Astra K hatch never has a flat boot iirc
I have the raised floor because I have a spare, so it's fairly flat
Actually, idk if I need to fold forward a bench. Probably not. Haven't tried
Didn't it already have a turbo? Or is this another 305?
another I have 3 of them

One im working on atm
Not too bad
Squishes the upholstery, which is an issue on the H rear bench
Especially with leather
And I have the cargo insert now, which means the whole thing is now completely level. If I had to, I can now sleep in my car instead of a tent
305 estates have 50/50 rear seats but 3 seats in the back
I managed to get a 40/20/40 rear, which is insanely rare on the H, especially in leather. Because it was only offered very briefly as an expensive option
So almost nobody ordered the damn thing
Yeah you don't see it often
50-50 š¤
I have 60/40, which is sad because then it's missing the rear armrest
Fun fact, the H had a rear armrest option
But only with the 40/60 config
But I have yet to see an actual car with this
Hmm opposite on the K I think
But, not available at all on the 2016 MY
Then people complained it was missing and they added it
Yeah I always thought they were 4 seaters instead of the saloons which were 5 but no
there is a seatbelt there for someone to uncomfortably sit in the middle
That seems very uncomfortable
I think itās classified as āemergency seatā
You are not supposed to use that one that much
Ah no armrest was with the 60-40 in the K
But finding heated rear + armrest is practicality impossible
Idk if that's even ever offered
wont get a boot like that on a modern
Not with 3mm of exterior sheeting no
shut :^)

crumple zone innit
That moment you realize you're the crumple zone
most of my long distance drives include a engine sitting in the boot so I will probably get smacked by that anyway
Havent driven a modern car for any significant distance for a long time, doesent really come to mind.
Doesn't matter if you're already dead inside
true
yourself heh
Ive always been a pretty careless person so not too bothered by cars, working on one sitting in a live lane of the motorway with NPC squad passing closely is a bit here and there though.

No...
hi everyone
does anyone here know anything about vanlife
or want to talk about cargovans
ive been looking at facebook marketplace for vehicles lately
this isn't #gaming
still kind of a car tho
anyway, back to vanlife
im trying to decide if i should . . .
- buy used
- buy like-new used
- buy new?
people in this channel drive cars, not live in them lol.... there's a million better places to ask about this

why would you assume someone is "a supra kid" because they hate the photo of a slammed R8?
what is an R8?
Audi R8... the car in the photo related to that message
didn't need to re-send it
and it took me back to this image
If you're going to be living it it all the time, and drive it a lot. Then having a warranty is always nice.
so audi r8 or (R8) refers to the model of this car
and im guessing audi is the make
is that correct?
Yeah. Audi is the manufacturer. R8 is the model of the vehicle.
even as a non-car person, how on earth have you not heard of audi
wait are warranties real?
like the ones that come in the mail?
i thought you couldnt get a warranty on a car, isnt it just insurance
with all your computer build threads, and now these questions.... I'm still not convinced you're not just trolling
or is it warranty in other countries
car manufacturers warranty cars for the first few years of ownership
A warranty is something you get with new vehicles, yeah.
Which means that if it's something that breaks that isn't supposed to break (essentially). Then the manufacturer will cover that.
Some warranties do transfer over. But the warranty is many times only good for a few years, and a certain number of miles.
For example. Kia has a 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty.
which you're going to need with a kia
It means that Kia will take care of you if they consider the fault to be a non-wear/abused item.
i kind of doubt my used vehicles from 2007 and 2013 had a warranty
but i kept getting phone calls and letters about my cars warranty and extended warranty
i always thought it was a scam tbh, i never would have known a car warranty was real
those are scams
Additional warranties do exist. But it's often you pay extra for. And you REALLY have to read through the fine print for what they cover.
My sister had her VW Golf covered using an insurance/warranty thing that she had.
Which covered some electrical fault that she had with her car.
so unless you knew you had a warranty
its a scam basically
so theres both then
im guessing VW is volkswagon
im guessing golf is the model. never heard of that one
How? What part of the world are you from?
USA has the Golf though.
Yeah, Golf is the model.
i personally cant drive a manual. but i know what manual is
That's the the Golf R, too. So it has a solid 300+ hp. Driven to all corners.
Oh, right. I forget that VW USA doesn't have the same lineup as VW EU.
VW EU has a line of vans and everything as well.
i want it to be walkable bare min requirement
but i am 5ft 8in
yep those are the big 3, ford transit, dodge ram promaster (fiat ducato), Mercedes-benz Sprinter (dodge or frieghtliner too)
those are like the expensive influencer vans
i want one, that is like the dream van, but idk how to get one that isnt destroyed
i live in toledo ohio, so i am looking at facebook marketplace everyday
im okay with this, i heard it costs <$100
When you're really balling.
literally, i can get all the extras overtime, but YES this is the plan
me but its quarter life crisis van lmao
Bringing it to a mechanic for $100, to save yourself from thousands of dollars of work is what you want to do. If you're buying second hand.
Meanwhile. This is a real baller move.
that one is really pretty
There are larger ones as well. But that one is nice and compact.
i hated schoolies, because they are kind of too big for me, but also because they have really bad mpg.
so schoolies, are crossed off my list
i was thinking of shuttle buses because they are made for adults
but ultimately, they are still a bus, so i decided to go for a box truck over a shuttle bus if possible
Guy did a temp import of a dang Scania to travel the US.
shuttle buses have too many windows, and dealing with them is complicated since you usually have to maintain the aesthetic of having windows on the outside, while building a wall over them on the inside
not too cold in ohio
Having sheet metal is nice for any insulation that you can add.
yeah, you can spray paint the windows or tint them tho
p good for budget vanlife tho
Pretty neat project this has been. https://youtu.be/OHopyHIta0g

but ultimately decided on doing a box truck over a shuttle bus if possible
He has thrown an Escalade interior into a Silverado.
so i have crossed shuttle bus off my list
i looked into ambulances
but all the ambulances i found were low roof, i dont even know if they come with a high roof
i like the look and feel of them
yeah i agree, cause box trucks have plenty of headroom
and the ones with whats called a "peak" have a perfect place for a bed
but i would probably lay vertical and use the right or left side of the peak as a closet space
Probably. Or just a camper.
i looked into type a, b and c campers.
i think type a and type c are off the table. i have crossed them off
type b campers are very similar to cargovans
whats a "mobile home"
like a trailer for a trailer park?
This is what it would be here.
But I also understand the US culture is completely different when it comes to caravans and campers in general.
i think so, if im going the used route
ford transit and dodge promasters are like 10k used
a lot of box trucks are hard to find for 2k or 4k
I believe that in terms of creature comfort. Then it goes...
Converted van > Chassis with cab > Chassis without cab.
a lot of box trucks i see are going for about 8k
so now im just like, i think i have found the best used option for me
I know that there have been people who have slept in those u-haul vans.
You probably should. Considering how expensive new ones can be.
or should i go for the "like-new used" option instead and finance what i actually want
also, with the used route, i found that even though transits and promasters are expensive for regular used. there are a lot of 2005 sprinters for $4000, and im wondering if i should go that route instead
yeah like $56k
so my actual plan was to, buy a used box truck or cheap sprinter.
and then save up for the new van while living in the used.
how does that sound? or is there better options?
That's really only something you can answer yourself.
usually, if you sell the used vehicle as a conversion vanlife van, you actually make more money than you put in
do you mean, why instead of what
oh which van do i want to get?
the dream van is either ford transit or dodge ram promaster.
I'm sure that insurance and everything would be high on whatever you're getting.
cause if i skip the used step phase.
and go straight for buying and financing a like-new used transit / promaster. it might be better than buying a box truck
well thats what im asking
like should i
A. ) buy used >> then save >> then buy brand new
B. ) finance a like-new used
If you're doing the interior parts yourself regardless. Then I would just recommend getting a used van that's have a storage interior that's already falling apart.
Why do I say this? Because you would be covering all of that up either way.
As long as the chassis and driveline is good.
thats true, when i look at vehicles, if it has shitty bus seats or shitty furniture or junk inside, i dont mind throwing it all out and i do plan on doing the build part of the van AFTER getting the van. so like probably insulation and probably floor and then probably walls etc
what is the "driveline"
ik chassis is the body of the car like a pc chassis or case
Engine, transmission, etc.
OH so not the frame
yeah i was learning this the other day. but it seems that.
year / age doesnt matter when buying a used car / vehicle.
mileage DOES matter more.
but overal. mileage doesnt matter as much as what people say because its actually how well it was maintained. so low mileage can be sus since it could be too low to the point where you can tell it was sitting
aside from that, year and age only determine aesthetics mostly and things like bluetooth
what IS retrofit
OH
yeah but rust is standalone mostly. like older it is the more time there is for rust to form, but if it was taken care of, then the rust shouldnt be there.
so like a 1988 vehicle shouldnt be an automatic no, as far as ik
but a 1988 vehicle with visible rust on the frame, and 20k miles is probably a no
but a 1988 with no rust, and 140k miles is maybe okay
so retrofit = when you upgrade your vehicle?
well with financing theres 2 options
brand new
and used
so at first was thinking of doing option A, but now im thinking maybe if i did option B that would save money
cause even if i go used, thats still like 2-4k gone
what about the
winnebago rialta
Vauxhaul Movano
Renault Trafic
Mitsubishi Delica
also what is a sportsmobile? is that a make?
Retrofitter from the looks of it.
wait what is a retrofitter?
Company that adds features that didn't come from factory.
oh so its not a make
Look through the whole website that you'll see what they do. They have examples with Ford Transits, Mercedes Sprinter, Dodge Promaster and more.
they are just a conversion company
Yeah
wow thats insane
They have pricing and everything on their website to build something you want.
Just require a thick enough wallet.
@valid marsh Here you can get an idea about pricing. https://sportsmobile.com/preowned-sportsmobile-southwest/
View the pre-owned inventory of Mercedes Sprinters, Ford Transits, Dodge ProMaster, and other custom camper van conversions at the Sportsmobile Southwest location in Phoenix, AZ. Contact us today to discuss our inventory or to design your own conversion van with a Sportsmobile Designer.
Those are pre-owned units.
so i can safely cross off sportsmobile unless i finance ig
What you want to do will be expensive, no matter how you twist and turn it.
not really tbh
and definitely not 50-100k
im not saying financing brand new
im saying financing like-new used
completely different
The ones I shared with the recent link ARE used units.
Basically starting at $50k for used ones.
i wont be doing sportsmobile
does this have a peak?
i think i can cross off stepvans
the amount of insane drivers on thanksgiving was wild
Iāve gotta go through my dashcam thereās so many things on there

This bad boy goes on the roof later today once the sun comes up. Was able to stream 1080p over starlink while in motion, now time to try and push 4k.
1080p was okay.
is that starlink
There is a starlink involved yeah.
Camera will probably go right next to it and follow its cable to get inside.
Is it covered up during travel to avoid any debris?
what is it?
Its a camera for streaming, sorry thought I mentioned that in the comment.
Nah, but I also dont get rock chips and hits up there.
the road?
Watch the video I replied to here.
its pretty and smooth, but whats the point
Live streaming. I guess.
Why are you on a chatroom on the internet?
to talk to people
im asking you why
That too. General internet access while on the road.
like whats the hobby
How do you power it?
I lived in the south and stormchased previously. I reccorded my entire cross country road trip and want to do it again. Streaming was a bonus.
I have a bluetti 2000wh bank in the truck.
so the point is to capture the drive basically and the scenery around the vehicle since sometimes you see something cool while driving, but then you cant take a picture or something
Nice.
Captured lightning in high rez in a hailstorm in one of the vids above. You dont always get to pull over.
do people actually watch those kinds of streams tho? ive seen cctv footage live camera streams which are interesting but mostly just background. im guessing this would be mostly the same.
I want to have 4k for that next time.
unless its like, for a video essay or something
Was in death valley.
or a school project
At the moment I have a tv on my wall that plays my long format stuff. For the most part, beyond the random clips I have shared its for me.
Does not always have to be for some project or job.
What's the power draw on your starlink? With the 2,000 wh battery I imagine that you have a solid 24 hours of use.
Not counting for charging the power bank.
At the moment, my draw is 70 watts, I am powering the starlink dish, a third party router and a poe injector for a unifi ac pro. I also am using the high performance dish not the one you get when you order for home.
Thing was 2500 tacos.
Yeah. Expensive AF.
I can get over 24 hours if all I am powering is my network. Truck also charges at 100w.
Website says that it draws anywhere between 110-150 Watts.
The stock router sucks.
lemmie go grab it and ill see whats on the bottom.
I was at 130w constant before I cut it out.
Ooof. Stout power draw for that.
Just 70 W for the starlink itself is fine.
But another +50% if you want to use it as a router? Nah.
Now it has an edgerouter x and ac pro AP and it sips power.
š
Nope its buried in a box now. Anyway, super happy with the change. Going to also come in super handy when camping lol.
Hopefully you will get to keep it for yourself. That no one will try to steal it from you.
Yeah, Am concerned about theft, used anti tamper screws and there is 600 pounds of magnets holding it on there but if someone wants to steal something they will. Will probably end up trying to set it up to send alerts if someone tries to touch the roof but that is way down the road.
They could also just steal the entire thing.

That's not too bad! It's nice what you're able to make/get for aftermarket units.
Crutchfield is amazing! I even have working steering wheel control
Crutchfield W
i remember this video, this guy really knows how to do a harmless prank
Is that the 2770?
Itās pretty nice
Iāve got the same one š itās great for the most part
sometimes Apple CarPlay audio will randomly skip for me though, in rare cases disconnect altogether
donāt know why but itās rare so I donāt really care
I havenāt driven it enough to notice anything like that. Do you have steering wheel controls?
It could be that shorting out or smth
Ah
yeah, donāt know why it happens inconsistently though I havenāt recognized a pattern
both
Strange
yeah
What phone?
howās your Siri? Mine canāt pick up what Iām saying half the time, idk if the included mic is trash or if I just need to place it better
happened on my iPhone 12 and still on my 15 pro
hasnāt happened as much though
Siri works amazingly every time
oh really?
I have it mounted right behind the thin plastic trim piece
wdym?
Where my head unit is mounted
Ohhh
Thatās where I have the mic mounted
interesting
It works fine
Iād think it would be muffled guess not
Even with other people talking
And songs playing
Picks out my voice just fine
Where do you have your mic located?
I have mine mounted in between the steering column and the dash trim
kinda hard to show it in a pic
itās in that little gap kinda wedged in there
Nah itās all closed off
Rip
there is a tiny gap underneath, I needed an adapter because the old head unit was bigger
maybe if I put it there the sound would be good? idk lol but it was a lotta work to get it down there
Eh just leave it and scream when you want Siri
šš im a quiet person as it is
Also wait a second is that a cx5
Nah a 6
Sweet
Who on earth thought its a good idea to have buttons on the level with the gearknob

Hello I've got a car repair question if anyone would know
I'm replacing my brake pads and rotors. I have the rotors and pads off, pistons are compressed. I'm ready to start putting things back together but I realized I don't have a specific torque wrench.
I'm wondering if I could just tighten the rotor nuts (like the ones that connect the caliper to the rotor in the back) regularly, then use this to make sure they're to the right spec https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MP1Q3W8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3CTCSJRE9G6AY&th=1
I can get this tomorrow but I can't get the extender bar for it for another week
Not sure if I could just do the whole thing with this too.. idk kind of a tight space
Now I'm seeing lots of things that are like "I just make sure those bolts are tight"
Then others that make it seem like the torque spec needs to be super specific
Oh and I also can't find what spec they're calling for in the manual. They specify for the wheels bolts but I don't see anything for the caliper ones
With experience you just get a gauge for how things should be, I personally wouldnt bother but : /
most of the stuff is very rotten and I am not bothering to clean up threads so would just get a false torque reading anyway.
Oh I didn't realize this
That's good to know.. I saw something else that said those bolts are just unlikely to come off too
thank you!
Is this for the caliper to the bracket or bracket to hub
@zenith path Sounds like you're talking about the caliper bracket mounting bolts (2 on the back of the bracket that secure to the hub).
It is important they are tight, but a torque wrench is not really necessary. I personally use blue loctite (blue, not red) as I've seen them work loose (probably due to inproper torque) but still. Blue will keep it from backing off but doesn't pose a challenge to get loose for the next brake job.
If it's the caliper slide pins that the caliper slides on, those are usually much smaller and don't need to be crazy tight at all.
but, you should take the slide pins oiut and clean them and apply proper lubricant (silicone lubricant, not anything copper or metal based)
I always just use red on the bracket bolts
Because fuck the next guy
(I'm usually the next guy)
red's really not that bad to get loose usually, but I don't want the grief when someone strips it trying to get it loose and comes back to blame me for crossthreading or something
Nature's loctite is the best
this is true lol
yes - noco makes a great product.
I'll buy it then since I barely ever see em on sale
yea they don't go on sale super often. the gb40 is good as long as you dont have a diesel or high compression v8
im in the US where diesels are usually truck-only, so if its a smaller diesel it'll probably be ok
yeah only a golf mate
yeah that should be just fine then
Nice one lad
Pretty sure Noco is one of the most popular brands as well for jump starters
i have a gb150 noco- i've jump started semis with it. need 2 of them if the batteries are flat dead, but still
yeah buying it for winter peace of mind tbh don't wanna be stranded plus if other people are can easily lend a hand
good samaritans
I've had lights pop up for low battery sometimes after leaving the car for 2 days idk how or what drains it.. doubt it'll be the dashcam like yeah sure it's running 24/7
back when men were men

Ordered
Very good very nice
Jumpe starter + case
Wonder how long the lifespan is of the actual lithium battery tho
Don't wanna be spending £100 just so it dies on me 2 years later
they last a good long time - i've kept mine plugged into my truck for the last 2 years and it still works fine (that is a bad habit but still)
oh you constantly keep it plugged in
yeah i shouldnt but i do lol
pretty sure it has protections for overcharging but yeah as long as it's 80%+ should keep the lithium battery healthy
yeah definitely has overcharge protection. i also live in Florida where it is baking in 100+ degrees all day
Only disappointment is micro USB charging like wtf no type C??
yeah i agree- i hate to buy things with micro. my 150 has prong style option as well so i use that.
that is one thing to be careful of- as im sure you know the micro connectors hate to be put at angles and what not. perfectly fine as long as you dont put stress all the time on it but still
jdm stans
i have the same car. when you are driving it the gear shift is not even close to any of the buttons
any opinions on this #cars message
Ctek.
does mileage only matter for the engine?
cause like, worse case scenario if something had 500k miles you could just replace the engine and be honky dorry
yes but the car is still scrap at that point
a chassis with 500k miles is going to have had so many bumps vibrations and flexes go through the metal that its fatigued as all hell and the car is as stiff as wet cardboard
ive seen high milage cars where you could jack up the rear right wheel 1.5 feet in the air and the other 3 wheels still fully touch the ground with no obvious droop in the suspension because of how bendy they got over the years
OHHH i found out what 2D and 3D means now. 2D means two doors and 3D means it has three doors, so the sliding door.
not exactly. it depends on the vehicle. from what ive researched.
like a honda civic can go to 700k, and sprinters are reaching the end of their life at 500k
unibody cars is what it happens to which is every car built in the last 20 years aside from the crown vic
ESPECIALLY civics they are made from such thin metal
so what all needs to happen aside from an engine change then?
most likely every suspension part on the car will need to be changed and there is a good chance non of the emissions equipment works at all at that milage
all steering parts too
so just more parts that can be replaced
and you still end up with a chassis thats beat to hell and back and will crumple in a wreck
anything is going to crumple in a wreck lol
body is nothing tho, but some spray paint etc
1000 miles and 500k miles on a civic is the difference betwen hitting a car and the a pillars being bent and you having a broken leg and the engine being in your lap
most of these 300-500k vehicles all only have like 1-2 things wrong
boy are you in for a rude awakening
im looking at vanlife vehicles. so its not the same lmao and im not a boy
people who own cars that are that reliable dont get rid of them for one or 2 things they get rid of them for 10-15 things
have fun with that. those sprinter vans have a lovely body panel design shaped like a v and it holds in water and rots the back of the body panels
no i was talking about him
and I was talking about you
that makes no sense.
there are these things cars have called seam welds and on that car they are shaped like a v and cause insane ammounts of rust. if that sounds like nonsense to you just buy the van and suffer
show me. i dont see it
no shit you wont its part of the structure of the car dumbass
nobody else has said that about these T1N sprinters
there is dozens of forums dedicated to nothing but rust repair on those vans
im not a dumbass, i literally just havent been taught. so lets chop chop. and show me obviously
like why would i know that. how would i know that. it honestly just sounds like you are making it up
some car elitist type bullshit tbh
we don't exist to spoonfeed you, there's plenty of actual learning resources you can find on the internet
thats what you get when you build a van from shitty non galvanized steel
whats spoonfeed?
š¤¦āāļø
ive been learning, im saying that its just not true.
giving you all the information with you doing absolutely nothing to find it yourself
no one has talked or mentioned anything about a V shape sprinter issue
im pretty sure, this is all i do
i dont have any other hobbies besides doing this research
this is literally just a rusty ass sprinter lmao
you asking the people of this server for information is not "research"
its not
yes it is
cause we are sitting here googling shit to answer your questions when you could be doing it yourself
research is literally anything you can do to get information on it
so discord, reddit, youtube, google, chatgpt, and bing ai. all of it is research.
that is not an opinion
then dont google shit to answer my questions tf
youre supposed to answer based off your own intellect.
if you dont know, then dont answer
simple
spoon-feed verb [T] (PROVIDE INFORMATION)
to give someone so much help or information that that person does not need to try himself or herself:
it's okay to not know something š¤·āāļø
its not okay to make someone learn it for you
that's literally just teaching. youre talking about being a teacher
and it's not ok to just continuously ask people for help, and then tell them they're the problem when you still don't understand because you have absolutely no grounding in your knowledge and refuse to actually go find out the basics from the wider internet.
never mind the spoon feeding you came here looking for info then you got info and said im lying about it
im not making anyone learn it for me.
im literally just having a conversation about cars on discord
and im gonna be doing this, everyday, until i figure out what i gotta do.
im just asking for sources,
people will stop answering after a few days and about a week in the mods will mute you for spam
im not spamming. this is just me talking on discord well within the limits of discord TOS and the server TOS.
warship already gets you for spam
but guess what. im a welder not a teacher. trying to kill time on discord not find a second career
that's why there is an automod
okay š¤·āāļø
this is specifically not a help chat.
its always the older gen that blames younger people for not knowing, and its like we are begging to learn lmao
if you were begging to learn you would be joining van life groups not a tech discord that happens to have a couple car people in it
I am the younger generation, I'm blaming you for being absolutely useless at finding information from actual sources that are there to provide that information, and having no common sense about absolutely anything
this server unfortunately doesnt have a cars help forum. and talking about cars here is very subjective on whether you can on cant ask questions in the cars channel lol
because this is a tech nerd server
not a car server
uhhh well, cars are tech so yeah
not this kind of tech
and uhh well, this is a cars channel
in the off topic section
for talking about cars casually, not helping you build a damn house van
it doesnt matter. people have different topics on their servers all the time. that is insane to even think that you cant talk about cars here
sorry if we seem a tad frustrated, but your existence here ever since your first PC thread MONTHS ago has been frustrating
we talk about cars not make step by step build guides for goofy vans
im talking about buying a used vehicle. nothing about building a vanlife van
doesn't seem like you actually want to do any of what you ask about because none of it has happened at all so far, and it has been many months now
they are a true car person in that sense
i am finding things. you are projecting. like nothing you said is true
every single thing I've said it 100% true
I've been watching your threads and messages here the whole time
i have only been looking for a van for a couple weeks and thats not a lot of time at all
oh shut up you never even googled anything we said to check if it was true
most people ive heard take 3 - 6 months of just searching
if you did you wouldnt be asking for sources on sprinter rust you would have found the 12 forums on the first page of google
in the time we've helped a few hundred people build computers, you've built 0
12 forums on the first page of google? how old are you?
why are we talking about pcs in the cars channel? lets stay on topic please
i wasnt asking about sprinter rust.
you asked about sprinters, they told you about the major problem with those sprinters
whats the major problem
do you have a 2 second memory?
no, thats just not what he said
he was never like
i dont like sprinters, because they have a major rust issue.
literally right here
they explained the exact issue

all these things are what pop up when you search "sprinter van rust"
i thought he was talking about something else not sprinters
š¤¦āāļø
literally all vehicles rust afaik
when i see, "why do sprintervans rust" all i hear is someone who doesnt know anything about cars
YOU are that person
i mean yeah idk much about cars
but im trying to learn
but by the end i will
ive heard nothing but good things about 1st gen sprinters. and that they are actually better than 2nd and 3rd gen sprinters
so much so that i think im going to get one instead of a ford econoline box truck
see i have a volvo and when you google volvo rust none of the first results are froums talking abouit repair
which makes sense since my car has 318k and no rust
is that what you are supposed to do?
lol dont buy one unless it doesnt have a single spec of rust on it or you are prepared to spend 6000$ repairing all the rust so you dont end up with a leaking house
from what ive been taught on this forum already, is that rust can be dealt with. and you can remove most of it as long as it is not scale rust or penetrating rust
literally any ammount of rust can be dealt with. you just better be rich if its bad
wait so you can spend $6000 to remove all the rust at a mechanic??
It all depends.
the only time rust can't be repaired is when the vehicle is just gone
but any structural rust (which the sprinter has a problem with, hence the mention of it at all) will be stupidly expensive to fix, and not worth fixing in 99.999% of cases
even then people still do it. people will go to ferrari with a chunk of rusty metal that has a vin plate attached to it and like 4m$ later there is a car
wait so scale and pentrating rust can be fixed too? do they like, fill it in? how does that job compare with surface rust job?
ik surface rust jobs are basically a steel brush and sanding it down and spraying it and then like basically putting some kind of rust seal thing on it and then spray painting it for aesthetics if you want, but i think the paint protects it more too.
Issues you get when you have excessive rust is that you start to replace parts, panels, and need to reinforce stuff.
Not to mention if you have structural rust. Then it's a big fat
i currently own a car with a rusted structure
they weld in a new panel. which may be cut from another vehicle, bought if available, or entirely made by hand
Weight reduction.
Now that's not very shocking at all!
Because you have no shock absorbers at all.
I sold them
If you sit down too hard in that car there is a good chance you will land on the gravel under the car
idk, it seems kind of worth it tbh. these T1N sprinter vans are p cheap and some of them dont have much rust on the frame. some have bad rust, but some dont.
and the brand new sprinters transits or promasters are all like 50-60k
i could easily, just buy a $2800 sprinter and then fix it up it seems.
you would spend more than the vehicle costs replacing essentially the entire underside of the van
so far it seems like, there is no reason to not do that
If you spend 6000 fixing a 2500$ van you have a 2800$ van. Dont fix rust unless you want to kiss the money goodbye and never see it again
yeah but its hard to even just get these vehicles. im struggling to find options in my area
Because they have all rusted their way into a scrapyard
its like people will do anything to get one of these things now
Guess why they are as pricey as they are.
tbh, what i think and a lot of others think too, is that the demand is so high for them now.
it's not that demand is that high, it's that the supply is low.
Its the same with 6th gen monte carlos. impossible to find because they rusted the day they came off the lot and im lucky to have one of the last few that is rust free
i was going to just do ford econoline box truck with a peak, but the ones with peaks are expensive and hard to find.
The best option here is honestly to just do the Toyota Prius. At least if you just want a form of transport that's cheap to operate.
i love this option, cause a brand new one is only like 20k right so thats so cheap. but idk if i could live in a space that small, but i hear the mpg can get up to high 50s
Supply is low and demand is high. People be poor these days
i think people have more money than they ever have, but everything just costs so much more now so now they are technically poor.
People are poorer then they ever have been lol
yeah, but have more money than ever before
not me tho, this is the absolute richest i have ever been in my life
i had a couple pre inflation things i got lucky on
my luck is running out with time tho
We actually have less money than ever cause of inflation
Having 100$ now isnt the same as 100$ 5 years ago if now itās technically only worth 80$
yeah, but its more money, just less value. so like people probably have a couple thousand to their name which is probably more than before, but that couple thousand is basically nothing now compared to what it was back then.
Just proving my point now
still a good chunk tho.
well, its technically more money. which is worse
but thats how inflation is
I believe that vehicles might go down in price in a year or so. Especially in USA.
Mainly because we have lots of supply, less demand. Cars cost too much, financing costs too much.
that's true
Banks would give out super low rate loans for cars a few years ago, right around the start of Covid. Everyone and their mother could get a loan, as long as they had a pulse.
D. buy a used box truck >> finance a brand new ford transit.
F. buy a used T1N Sprinter >> finance a brand new ford transit
J. buy a used box truck >> finance a brand new dodge ram promaster
L. buy a used T1N Sprinter >> finance a brand new dodge ram promaster
S. buy a SUV >> finance a brand new ford transit.
T. buy a SUV >> finance a brand new dodge ram promaster
U. finance a like-new used ford transit
V. finance a like-new used dodge ram promaster
W. finance a like-new used sprinter
X. finance a like-new used toyota prius
i have narrowed down the list further
i just feel like a SUV and toyota prius are still going to be expensive and not really give me what i want that i could get which is a walkable space.
itd be nice if i started life with one tho, i would have just made it work and roughed it out with one of those if i had one
i heard that you can put cars inside storage units tho
so maybe one day ill get a toyota prius as a secondary vehicle and drive that to work or to places and then back to my vanlife vehicle and just park next to it.
or maybe i should do a motorcycle
cause then i could put the motorcycle inside the box truck
so ig now the question is how does econoline compare with t1n sprinters
and if i can decide if i should go promaster or transit that would help too
I would really just go with whatever you can find at a reasonable price, that's in reasonable condition. And build around that.
Instead of looking at a specific platform.
You blind?
Your missing about 80% of it
Mine is lower spec
mine is lower spec than yours. it doesnt have parking sensors
doesnt even have power seats
so volvo is a make it looks like
my god
you dont even know what volvo is and had the gall to tallk about people not knowing shit about cars earlier
im sorry i dont have a dad
neither did i
but you are 38
im 25
Part of me wants to think that you're joking, Dream.
Never heard of Golf, Volvo. And so much more.
A few days back I mentioned the VW Golf.
ik what golf is. i hope i didnt lie about not know what golf is
OHH yeah
yeah i had never heard about the VW golf
only the transporter and crafter
"when i see, "why do sprintervans rust" all i hear is someone who doesnt know anything about cars" ~dream 40 mins ago
also dream : whats a volvo?
I Roll.
hahaha very funny. anyway
If you're serious about building a camper van. Then as I mentioned a little ways before.
Just get your hands on whatever you can that's in decent enough condition at a decent enough price.
No need to think about specific cars or models.
If it fits. It ships.
thats true but to an extent.
Step 1 is building up the funds to afford it to begin with.
cause ambulances werent working for me
i met a guy and looked at his ambulance and it was a nightmare, i think
the floor of the cab was falling down
step 2 is saving up 2x what you thought you need so you get minimal interuptions during the build
Honestly true.
so i walked away, but it had 24k miles 1988
3x*
Not to mention the tools, and time to work it.
that was a bonehead move
well tbh, im actually planning on roughing it out for the conversion part so that's not being taken much into consideration
you can buy cabs out of junkyards for not much money
there are people on youtube who do no build vanbuilds where you just get stuff from walmart which is where i work so its dirt cheap.
oh really?
i can still talk to that guy
he's obsessed
you dont even need to go to a junkyard
just buy 2 vans
one with a good cab and bad everything else
i noticed later that i could buy a new ambulance box for $1000
One way to deal with it, is getting your hands on a frame. And build something custom. But that requires additional work.
well not new, but good condition ones
And likely actual space to build it. And store it.
if you have the funds for new cars you can just by a commarcial spec chevy express
they come with a cab and bare frame
im kind of a rude person tbh. so the way i would do it is just build it anywhere i want until im asked to leave. then i take a break for the day and then work on it somewhere else until im asked to leave again
its what they would use to make that ambulance in the first place
so no point in having a backyard or something. and i doubt i will be asked to leave
thats not gonna work
i know my area pretty well.
Or a normal camper.
its also not illegal. just frowned upon for some reason lmao
that doesnt matter cause the second you hit a bolt that is rusted on or you accidentally snap some fastener now your van is staying where you parked it till you can uber to a parts store
Yeah. This actually will not work.
Would you just build it out on the sidewalk?
and thats not uncommon on old cars
ive had jobs where EVERY bolt has snapped on me
i can uber. or just use my cars too
and when you cant remove your van from where you are being kicked out of
@civic spoke How do you think this will go?
probably a park or beach. ive seen others do it
Translation: Tesla is suing the Swedish state
or maybe just hide in the back of my apartment complex parking lot
This is essentially why I don't really work on my own cars. Sadly.
Because I have no place to park it over the weekend while I work on it.
the gov wont react well to that
