E46 - pro & cons
318i 105kw (2003) vs 330d 135kw (2001 preface)

#

Ill specify closer

#

318i 105kw - 10-12l of gasoline in city - top speed 218kmh - 0-100kmh 9.2s
330d 135kw - 8-9l of diesel in city - top speed 228kmh - 0-100kmh 7.2s

330d is a sedan whilst the 318i is a coupe and has some things done on it and the paint looks better

330d has 160k km
318i has 180k km

318i comes in with winter and summer tires
330d comes with only winter i think

direct injection injects fuel right into the cylinders and doesnt clean the valves but has a much finer fuel control and better economy and uses an in tank pump and a cam driven pump

Mpi usually also runs around 60 psi of fuel pressure in the rail

#

Ok does anyone know anything about what a body on frame car/truck actually is?

#

Because I've heard that the Rivians are body on frame -- but the reason that they're different from a traditional truck was just that the body and the bed are one piece.

But other than that, as far as I could see from pictures/explanations there wasn't much of a difference -- the Rivians have a skateboard chassis with motors and batteries and normal trucks have a ladder frame chassis with an engine, no biggie.

But AlexonAutos (who's very detail oriented and usually well researched) described it in his most recent video as a hybrid unibody/body on frame because the body is bolted to the chassis.

What? What other option is there? how is an F150 body connected to the chassis??

Because if you ain't carrying 4x8 sheets of plywood then just get the 4WD Maverick

wispy cloak

eager grove
#

A maverick has a bed that's easily big enough for hunting equipment and dead deer and fishing rods or whatever, but it's like a normal car that you can just use and will be way cheaper on gas and insurance

and it would easily be able to handle hunting trails or snow or whatever

hexed kayak

but yeah

hexed kayak

Honestly aside from hunting I'd probably haul scrap metal and maybe dirt/compost from the landfill maybe an atv if it fits in the bed in the near future probably some logs/trees and wood from the hardware store from time to time

The max of my budget would be about 35-40 around there but obviously would prefer to spend less while checking as many boxes

And as far as year It doesn't really matter to me I just want it to be reliable for a few years and look good inside and out lol like I really like the interior of the newer modern trucks

It’s tough to know. On one hand, if you’re going to use your truck as a truck 4-5 times a year and you can borrow one for that, then spending 26k on something that’s 5 years old and has 76000 miles on it and ugly brown cheap cloth seats seems silly

But if you’ve decided on a truck and you’ve got good evidence that that one has been looked after properly and it has towing and payload numbers you’re happy with then you could certainly do worse

misty mantle
hexed kayak
coarse jewel
#

Doesn't it cut throttle mostly anyways when you press the brake on an automatic?

hexed kayak
#

if it did break boosting wouldnt be possible

#

You stand on the brake and gas and it lets you take off under boost instead of waiting for it to build up

coarse jewel
#

I don't know automatics super well, but doesn't it disengage the torque converter when the break is on, so it doesn't cut throttle but cuts torque delivery, mostly.

wraith rivet
#

wdym disengage torque converter

hexed kayak
wraith rivet
#

is that even possible? thought it was just a cylinder with fluid and 2 impellers in it

coarse jewel
#

I believe the impellers press together once the car is moving, to keep the speeds matched together. But I could be wrong. Haven't done to much research on the function of automatics.

#

so a lot less torque is passed when the brake is engaged

hexed kayak
#

not even close

wraith rivet
#

I don’t think so

#

I think it’s just the resistance of one impeller turning the liquid that turns the other one

#

it’s super tight in there so it only ever spins at different speeds if it absolutely has to

hexed kayak
wraith rivet
#

do they have some kind of piston in them?

#

yeah that’s why you can’t brake boost for too long

#

heats up the fluid super fast

puts a lot of stress on it

coarse jewel
wraith rivet
