half of having a VNT is having it tuned properly

charred depot
#

they were just running on the vacuum can but reversed to accept boost.

carmine summit
#

close the vanes too much it'll be laggy, open the vanes too much it'll be laggy

#

if you don't have an ECU to control it the best way is to use vacuum with a dedicated vnt boost controller

charred depot
#

This was cobbled together and it was pretty amazing.

carmine summit
#

I only know of 2 on the market, both made by the same company

#

oh wait that second one is wastegate only

#

so its just the one

charred depot
#

I might order one when i get the turbo mounted, was going to piss about with arduino control.

#

Kept a scrap car around to put the engine into so I can work out all the issues before putting it into one of my main cars.

I might be putting a diesel engine into my petrol estate, it would invalidate my low emission zone classic exemption so : /

I do have a vinplate and registration for a diesel estate which no longer exists just waiting to come back to life

Mb forgot to reply to this. This is all I can find. 5vz not 3vz. I don’t think shifting at 5k is the right solution so

#

Looks like d/dx for the hp graph is highest at around 3600, should I go to about there then?

dusky bobcat
#

Getting 13mpg rn so…

hexed kayak
#

for shifting though you want a balance of power and low rpm. you was as little rpm to get the car going for the next shift without being too little that the car bogs in the next gear

#

you dont technically need new parts and you can cobble them together with stuff laying around but make a smooth undertray for the whole car and make a hot air intake by making the car suck in air from right over the exhaust manifold

misty mantle
dusky bobcat
# hexed kayak theres lots of stuff you can do other than shifting

Yeah, I need new spark plugs but I’m scared the current ones wont come out but that’ll fix it. Also smaller tires and taking the roof rack of would help. I avoid idles and keep cruise speeds as much as possible. If you got any other solutions tho I’m all ears

#

Didn’t know that

feral reef

Idling in neutral on the other hand does use fuel

hexed kayak

its a full fuel cut your engine is running on the kinetic energy of the car

dusky bobcat

How does it know to not inject fuel tho?

hexed kayak

Going down hill in neutral is no different from neutral on flat ground

dusky bobcat
hexed kayak
dusky bobcat
#

I mean also just the pistons moving in the cylinder at 2000 rpm is a lot of friction oil or not

#

You could open the valves and get some engine braking still. Idk if it would be good for it but still

hexed kayak
#

if you get a motor with no cyl head on it you can turn the engine over from the crank pulley like a knob on a car radio

#

super easy

dusky bobcat
#

Huh ok

#

I know very little abt cars so I’ll take your word for it

dusky bobcat
#

Still tho the pistons are loosing all kinetic energy on every cycle since they switch directions shouldn’t that slow it quite a bit?

wispy cloak

They don't really switch directions suddenly

hexed kayak

@dusky bobcat do you understand how the crank works

Supercars are fun

hexed kayak

but none are keeping the stock motor

i would buy cars like a gallardo or ferrari f430 and drop in a twin turbo 6.0 vortec

McLaren can keep a stock motor, British are surprisingly good with Engines. Will just need to completely redo the electrical system. But Porsche is the best option for superish car performance that's actuall practical

Is anyone here really good with relays and electrics?

I have a relay that isn’t made anymore and I need to know what relays I can use to replace them. (The pin positions do not matter)

Let’s write an honest review about my shitbox (2011 Chevy Spark 1.0 50kW BiFuel LS).

Acceleration: Really terribly slow (everyone is tailgating) at the end of the acceleration lane you’re at 50km/h :csKEKWAIT:

Fuel economy: although my harsh driving (pedal to the metal) i get 7,4l/100km, with the current LPG price in the Netherlands of 0,80€ per l it is economically viable making the total cost of ownership about 0,20€/km.

Seat comfort: Around ok for an hour or 1 and a half of driving.

Noise: when driving on fresh ZOAB little to no noise.

Sound system: Ok for a €12000 new price car (no Bluetooth but AUX or USB)

Vision: the thick A pillar annoys me making that I must turn my head to look in (sharp) curves.

Under the bonnet:
Everything seems easy accessible for maintenance that after watching some videos on YouTube (for example Chrisfix) you can do it on your own. (Had replaced the headlights with blue coated H4, was just taking the plug out, dust over off and the lamp was accessible (compare that with some other cars where you need to take the whole unit off)).

TL:DR
Ok and very cheap for daily, non sport driving, terrible for motorways.
