they were just running on the vacuum can but reversed to accept boost.
close the vanes too much it'll be laggy, open the vanes too much it'll be laggy
if you don't have an ECU to control it the best way is to use vacuum with a dedicated vnt boost controller
This was cobbled together and it was pretty amazing.
I only know of 2 on the market, both made by the same company
oh wait that second one is wastegate only
so its just the one
I might order one when i get the turbo mounted, was going to piss about with arduino control.
Kept a scrap car around to put the engine into so I can work out all the issues before putting it into one of my main cars.
Basically, you're using the junk car as a engine run stand with extras
I think I have a 63mm but I don't remember
Because I bought a petrol car
Should have bought a diesel : )
In the Dutch tax climate? No thanks
just stick a petrol vin on it
I don't see how they wouldn't notice that its a diesel
whos gonna notice
Absolutely nobody
A friend of mine has a petrol car with a diesel engine, DVLA uninformed : )
I might be putting a diesel engine into my petrol estate, it would invalidate my low emission zone classic exemption so : /
I do have a vinplate and registration for a diesel estate which no longer exists just waiting to come back to life
I just bought a fake Opel 2 weeks ago
The parts store just gave me a cookie
Noice
Parts for your GFs cobalt?
Yup
MF Ghost premiere at Fujiwara Cafe was fire
neither of those are it
Fake Opel
Plenty of people do that with them
My local scca has three
Chevrolet/Daewoo (Does share tech with Opel, doesnāt it?)
Opel engine
same engine in the opel gt
That one shares 0 tech with Opel, basically an entire Daewoo product, also uses older Daewoo engines (S-TEC iirc?) which is not the default small Opel engine
Also buttons, switchgear, seats.... nothing is Opel
ā¹ļø
Iāve S-TEC II, the default one
Mb forgot to reply to this. This is all I can find. 5vz not 3vz. I donāt think shifting at 5k is the right solution so
Looks like d/dx for the hp graph is highest at around 3600, should I go to about there then?
what are you trying to find?
Just where to shift/how to improve fuel economy without new parts
Getting 13mpg rn soā¦
theres lots of stuff you can do other than shifting
for shifting though you want a balance of power and low rpm. you was as little rpm to get the car going for the next shift without being too little that the car bogs in the next gear
you dont technically need new parts and you can cobble them together with stuff laying around but make a smooth undertray for the whole car and make a hot air intake by making the car suck in air from right over the exhaust manifold
Put it in neutral going downhill
Yeah, I need new spark plugs but Iām scared the current ones wont come out but thatāll fix it. Also smaller tires and taking the roof rack of would help. I avoid idles and keep cruise speeds as much as possible. If you got any other solutions tho Iām all ears
i drove 3km going to Detroit with my cobalt ss fully turned off
Noice
Infinite MPG
traffic at the border and the bridge was a 2.5 km downhill
Yeah thatās what Iām trynna find, been doing 3k and after the shift I end up at 2k good power but doesnt sound like itās using too much
you need to get the plugs changed somehow though
Shouldnāt hurt should it? Helps with engine braking anyway
another thing that is bad is stopping
Wdym?
Yeah but thatās kinda hard to avoid all together
I reduce it but thereās only so much I can
learn the length of the red lights on your route and go just slow enough that it turns green when you get to it. on good days i can get though every light on my route home without stopping in my volvo
you said you are worried the current plugs wont come out
ive freaked out a couple cops cause im just barreling toward a redlight and it goes green 6 feet before i enter the intersection
Yeah I need to find a solution for them. I usually stop at most of them, only time Iāve never hit a light I was going like 5 over which my car is already struggling with 45 so Iād rather not do that constantly
Thatās a joke right?
Oh yeah I think they might just be rusted into the block, they all work just not at full efficiency. If they donāt come out they donāt come out, not a huge issue
Lmao people like that have freaked me out a few times
Usually think theyāre gonna kill someone
Yes, it was
Its also something I do anyway because I drive a manual
they just know light timings
i do it when i dont want to engine brake
Yeah Iām sure they do, it was on a Sunday though so they probably werenāt doing it every day
Why would you, thatās just using more fuel
thats the kind of thing you pay a shop for. cause if they snap the plug or strip the head they get to deal with it
Unless you turn the engine off, but thatās a bad idea
Theres a several mile downhill stretch between my house and town where I just put it in neutral and brake every once-in-a-while
done that alot. but ive driven lots of cars with no power brakes
Yeah thatās prolly smart, gotta lotta mechanics in my family though, we swapped an engine this summer they aināt gonna let some spark plugs stop them
Granted that engine was worth like 3x my car
Then just put it in top gear and never brake? And use 0 fuel in the process
Would prolly use a little fuel right?
None
no
Idling in neutral on the other hand does use fuel
its a full fuel cut your engine is running on the kinetic energy of the car
How does it know to not inject fuel tho?
Idk, engines are smart
Obviously newer cars with computers and shit but I doubt most manuals are that smart
It can tell what position the throttle is in
because its in vaccum and there isnt any usefull work to be done so it stops pulsing the injectors
In idle the throttle is out but it still injects fuel
Ah that makes sense ig
Fair
if you hook up a scanner to your car it will actually say the blade is open 5-15% at idle
No, 0 in gear going down hill
Yeah sorry whatās what I meant
probably like 3% just to let some air in for the engine to turn over
Going down hill in neutral is no different from neutral on flat ground
Ah yeah that makes sense would prolly want that
Yeah mb typo
thats how engine braking works running your car normally its compressing and it wants to push the pistons down to the oil pan but during engine braking its making a vaccum and wants to pull the pistons back up into the valves thus slowing down the car
I mean also just the pistons moving in the cylinder at 2000 rpm is a lot of friction oil or not
You could open the valves and get some engine braking still. Idk if it would be good for it but still
not really its just the vac and conpression forces
if you get a motor with no cyl head on it you can turn the engine over from the crank pulley like a knob on a car radio
super easy
Still tho the pistons are loosing all kinetic energy on every cycle since they switch directions shouldnāt that slow it quite a bit?
They don't really switch directions suddenly
yeah try 3000-3500
they all balance out so while one is going in another is going out and it doesnt really loose energy from that
@dusky bobcat do you understand how the crank works
https://youtu.be/I-yxxFmA2RI?t=32 @dusky bobcat this guy meassures how much tq it takes to turn it and its almost nothing
Mazda Miata 1.8 engine, just an interesting question that came up in a group, thought I'd share the results to my experiment.
a Jake brake is the same thing isnāt it? but the valves just stay closed so itās like a compressor
Same thing as what
it does the same thing buts a jake brake is an actual component that will adjust the valves
ohh okay it needs extra hardware
It opens the exhaust valves after compression
Which is part of the reason it makes so much noise
On my f350 I can use my turbo as an exhaust brake
i drove a ram with a factory jake brake
Those exist?
i didnt know they did before they handed me that work truck
6.7 cummins ram
or its an exhaust brake
i forget
i dont remember cause it was a few years ago but it shook the whole cab of the truck
But itās still changing direction at the end, thatās a lot of acceleration and deceleration
Yeah I do, idk the exact order or anything but I get the idea
I thought you could only get them aftermarket
Honestly, I didn't know either until I just popped in here to see what was going on
Quick youtube search brought that video up
Damn, it sounds good
idk why i needed a truck with a jake brake when i didnt tow but i was glad i had it
it was a welding rig
with a tool box uplift
But thatās at such low speeds and rpmās that they donāt loose that much momentum. Iām sure itās mostly the compression Iām just sayin the momentum and friction have a big play too, but itās not worth arguing abt
That is a short block so it has no compression
Did you have to flip a switch to use it
that only matters when you get to highend engines like super cars. or even f1 cars are a better example cause their motors have soo much friction in the rotation assembly while cold the motor just cannot turn over at all
they have to heat the block then start the car
yes
Are you sure it was factory and not done by the upfitter
i assume its factory because there was no reason for one to be nesscasary for the box on the back
I can't find anything about it being factory
https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/when-did-the-stock-exhaust-brake-appear.256019/ im reading this rn
i know but its the only thing i can find for a factory "engine brake device"
Which is why trucks with vgts have it
i just remembering how much cool shit the guy i used to work for had
and he just let it all rot
One dude has all this. Including that real nascar
google dexter stacey 55
hes not the owner just the driver
Your prolly right, again I know like nothing abt cars, doesnāt matter that much either way
@misty mantle what you think of that collection
theres a 454 ss in there which im pretty sure is what you like besides fords
yup and he lets it rot outside all year
hasnt moved since 11
Offer to get it back on the road for him, if not buying it outright
he bought that 50th anniversary edition vette new and never drove it. it has delivery miles
hes not interested in anyone messing with his stuff
hes a car hoarder
he has 5 modern challengers and 3 modern camaros
is it a time thing or a "I don't want ANYONE else to enjoy these cars" - oh well that answers it lol
Holy shit, I would be in heaven if I knew where this place was
you can see a few of them in the first pic i sent
Red is challenger blue is camaro
The thing i liked the most was the real cup car
Bro has got money coming out of everywhere, holy shit
This is a billet engine civic
sleeper build right?
Most likely
Btw his gnx is one of 6 on the street he lives on
you know how ppl mod cars so they dont have to spend so much on a luxury car?
i wonder if that civic beats a stock m2
He owns a native cigarette factory and owns the internet and phone companies that does the whole rez
And a truck stop
When you google dexter stacey 55 you can see the truck stop sponsored the nascar.
dexter is a mid driver though
he hasnt raced a cup car in series since 2011 and failed to qualify this year
probably
why do ppl buy supercars
idk there isnt a point to me
status, fun when you have perfect weather and no pot holes and minimal traffic
i dont see the point either
But Porsche is better
brakes for some of those cars cost as much as an 800hp engine for my cobalt ss
a bmw 335i for example can put out as much horsepower as a corvette c8
iirc the ferrari the ferrari brakes cost as much as a WRX
no point in owning a supercar lol
i can see the point in buying quite a few of them
Supercars are fun
but none are keeping the stock motor
i would buy cars like a gallardo or ferrari f430 and drop in a twin turbo 6.0 vortec
McLaren can keep a stock motor, British are surprisingly good with Engines. Will just need to completely redo the electrical system. But Porsche is the best option for superish car performance that's actuall practical
for me if im buying a supercar, i'd treat it like it's an expensive thing u know
no modifying
take it out once a week
store in garage
loose 50k in one year from depreciation
yeah that is what it is with those cars
Super cars cost a few hundred thousand, if you can afford a super car you can afford to properly care for it.
the 458 italia is special to me and if i own one ion want to ruin it with mods and engine swaps
i guess i am what they call a "purist"
thats not the kind im interested in
id be looking on copart for my supercar
25k
i'd own a rolls royce tho
idk what you think a super car is but thats hypercar money
idfc about depreciation. if i have frick you money, im commissioning a rolls royce
If I could somehow afford super cars I'd get a McLaren for track days and fun road driving and a GT3RS for daily
i heard mclarens are shit in terms of maintenance
they are also built like trash
Main issue is the same as all British cars, electrical.
i was looking at the mclaren booth at the 2023 montreal auto show and the panel gaps are horrifying. the door was scraping the enamel off the carbon tub on 2 seperate cars and on an other the frunk latch wasnt aligned so you could only close it by brutally slamming it
aren't those usually prototypes and concept cars and engineering samples?
no these were customer cars that had already been paid for
and been reged and plated
Bruh I drove directly into a hail cone in death valley.
Formation.

Starlink lived but connection went off a cliff.
in would be crying if i went through that in my cobalt ss
Custom paint ruined
That just looks like sleet
When I heard hail I thought the windshield was gonna get shattered
taking the 5.0l V10 out of the Gallardo and dropping in a boat anchor is just dumb
not really
that's one of the best V engines ever made
not even an exaggeration
the 2.5l 5 cylinder in the RS3 that people make 1300+hp with is based on that V10
it's so much better than an LS/LT
it also costs 30 grand for a reman engine vs 600 bucks at the junkyard
i keep cars a long time and drive them alot. you think that v10 would last doing 50k km a year
yes
7 years time it would have 300k miles on it
also there's no way you're driving 50k km a year in a gallardo lol
i drove 30k this year in my big turbo ss an 60k in my volvo this year
you don't know what it's like to drive, it's not something youd even want to drive every day
and I drove 20k in my big turbo jetta, it's still completely different
i know what they are like to drive
its a fine daily
did a road trip with my old boss in his
a road trip isn't the same as daily driving, at all
from toronto canada to san jose costa rica
6200km one way if you dont stop to look at things
spent a whole month in it
4 roadside oil changes too
was the same guy who owns all this shit
5.0 with two less cylinders better
Thats while towing an excavator
Unopened coyote go crazy
When i saw it say 2018 f150 i was like āhere we go another person who thinks an f150 is fast because they came from a 7.3 idiā and then i was like oh shit
That's what happens when you have a mustang drivetrain with awd
Might have a small bit to do with the facts itās probably a super snake as well
Pretty sure its a snake. Cause its says super there and f150s dont get a super duty option
If it was super snake it'd say shelby in front of the name
Here's another f150
christ
just remove it
that's like 20k, is it considered a good deal considering the mileage?
My brother literally just did that to his cobalt steelies before he left for college. I mean it works right?
Plug em in and find out
you want nice warm candle spec bulbs
if he sanded the rust on them and put rust converter then they weill be fine for awhile
This cobalt is getting some attention next
I just painted them cause im doing maintenance and doing winter prep
Need
Just get it LHD?š¤
there hasnt been an accord wagon sold here since the 90s
Well if you want to import a Japanese RHD one you can just as well import a LHD one from Europe
true

2x the milage tho and im pretty sure the rhd will go cheaper
Ofcourse, RHD is basically worthless
They're quite difficult to find in Europe
Sold poorly
i dont mind rhd though
used to drive it everyday for work
canada post imports rhd crvs and uses them to deliver mail in rural areas and thats what i did quite awhile ago
Rhd mail jeeps still exist too
cant you buy them new from the dealer
state side
i remember hearing that somewhere
i dont but a locally sold brand new rhd is interesting
Lmao
solving my vibration issues once and for all
i need to do that
i also need to figure out something for my licence plate
the plate in my cobalt ss starts visibly flapping when i play music
Plates require no screws to stay in place
Plate on the rear of my car is the original dealer plate from like 40 years ago not been removed heh
Lol gg
Can see the state of the front plate though when I first got it in this picture.
its readable
drums hammered off to make it roll and A framed
Im probably going to paint my estate RAL 5012
be a shit paint job but the grey is a bit boring.
Looks very authentic and untouched, definitely never dinged
only holes for 2 screws
its a taxi so it is amazingly uncrashed
thats why people in europe always loose them driving through water
Minor damage to back left repaired, has a new wing / fender on the front right
All my plates are screwed on but I suppose dealers are fitting them with double sided tape these days I think for the most part.
i watch videos of people driving through uk fords in their cars and and by the end of each video there is usually a pile of 20-30 plates
A decent adhesive with the correct prep should be good if not better than screws

#Flood...
Saab had taped on plates which were original
its always the german cars that give up half way through
that tape is proabably a fossil now
During flood season I am always tempted to drill a hole in the bulkhead and stick my air intake inside the car heh
So I can bomb through floods and have cocky modern cars follow me
Do it with a car I dont care about.
The annoying thing is insurance will pay out for all those people
I know of a case where people deliberately hydrolocked a damaged M5 V10 engine to get insurance to pay for a replacement.
smort
Half the time you can save a hydrolocked engine if it doesn't have any bent rods
serisously though. if you are gonna commit insurance fraud that the way to go about it
drive a car with rings so washed out the water just goes straight into the pan
no hydrolocking
I get annoyed with insurance being so high but it makes sense...
Wouldnt be me claiming for anything
ive got liability on all my shit
no full coverage
The funny thing here is comprensive (full coverage) generally works out cheaper here for under 25's.
Something something liability only drivers dont care about their cars and are more dangerous drivers
its a waste of money for me when it comes to cobalts because ive repaired enough of them i can probably do a better job than a body shop for cheaper
I am third party only (liability) on the Maroon 305 as the insurance is dealt with by a specialist as its mortified.
liability here is damn cheap
my black ss purple ss volvo and gold base cobalt cost a total of 73$ a month to insure
Its hard to say here its a great random number generator
Without a set of no claims bonus: Citroen BX Estate £1500/y Citroen BX Hatchback top spec TZD Turbo £600/y
No claims bonus can only be used in one place at a time so I have say a policy with 3-4 years built up another with 2 and another with 1.
My Miata is about ā¬77/month for full coverage
Modified 305 is £27/m, Stock 305 estate is £45/m
if i ever wreck my purple car the black one is getting cannibalized to save it
They'll bend rods in most cases
Especially high compression gas engines
My modified car is the cheapest to insure because my noclaims bonus and because I have to talk to real people to get it insured and fill out a bunch of extra forms.
I hate talking to insurance people
My cheapest vehicle to insure is the firetruck
Answer 100 questions "lmao we knew from the 2nd question we werent going to cover you"
no price, just no
Because of the antique plates
they probably figure it isnt moving much
i hate hagerty
Otherwise my super duty is $400 every six months for full coverage
And the audi is $300 every six months for liability
Classic insurance can be good here but I use my cars for business purposes with decent mileage which excludes me.
I only use Hagerty for the firetruck
every quote they have given me on insurance is like 3x what beniva charges me
I use Hagerty because classic insurance
they wanted 180$ a month to insure my rotten black ss on liability
If something happens to my Bronco that ends up totaling it out, I'm buying it back and either salvaging parts for another Bronco II if its to smashed up or just turn it into a dedicated off-roader which I was planning on doing in the future anyway
Even though I could probably drive it on the road with salvage title in the state of california, why would I when I can just jack it up on boggers
ive had an non road legal car. its not a great as you think
you end up paying insurance and maintenace on a trailer and you can NEVER use it any time you want
they also break way more from sitting alot
I have a ATV and a Snowmobile, I'll already have a trailer anyway
it would still be better to get it to a rebuilt title so it can drive on the road then build it
its why i havent put a cage in my cobalt yet. i like driving it around on the road
I would be ripping the emissions shit out of it so I wouldn't be able to get it smogged
isnt it almost exempt anyway?
Think so due to how old it is
But yeah, can't drive on the road without a valid smog certification here in Cali if the vehicle is registered in the the CA DMV system
montana llc time
i just checked and its bs that cali doesnt move up the smog exmept years
75 or older
your car has to be almost 50 years old to be exempt
Can't get a vin off a pre-75 bronco II because they didn't exist until the early '80s
Not too long ago it was 25 years old for classic exemption, 40 years atm
scum
that behavior is gonna drive classics to their grave
Some people get really annoyed when you tell them that a 40 year old car doesent need a MOT
Out in the fred flinstone mobile
When my dakota was totaled I refused to give up the title to insurance so they gave me a lesser settlement and I kept the truck
Clean title
Someone I know crashed a volvo 850 only damage to front bumper and they categorised it without even looking at the car so it basically cant go back on the road.
No cars need inspections here and it's great
people are gonna not have enough money to fix their classic cars and pass emmisons so they are going to get parked and rot away till it becomes exempt and a real build can be done
Thats some bullshit
I like the inspections because it creates a challenge for us
Why didn't they fight with insurance
i dont. i got interrogated about why my car has aluminum control arms instead of the factory steel while living in toronto
My audi is registered with a check engine light, 20 year old tires, and more
My super duty has had all emissions systems deleted
it was as base cobalt with fe5 turbo ss stock suspension
And will not have a muffler soon
They dont care about stuff like that here
Insurance realized they fucked up with me
can modify all you want as long as it is to spec, ofcourse on newer stuff you generally cant remove emissions systems.
Because they took over the legal time limit to give me a payout
Didn't provide a rental
The emissions test for old diesels is basically does it deploy a smoke screen Y/N
And I had over a dozen witnesses, a video of it, and admission in writing from the other driver
what are you gonna do
insurance claim for my gfs fiat went quick
1 week and we had a 12500$ cheque
They paid for all mechanical repairs, let me keep a clean title, and gave me more money than I paid for the truck
Damn
If the tires hold air, thats all that matters
They do but are completely bald and terrifying to drive on
who knew a 8 year old fiat with 156k km was worth that
New tires have been ordered but I'm just waiting for them to get in
The compound on these have also significantly degraded
Drag slicks
They're continental extreme contacts or whatever
Getting hankook something or others
i had 2 buy 2 new tires in detroit
Scary shit, I'm guessing?
New tires for the audi are so cheap
in one day i toasted the brand new indy 500s on the front wheels
It's only like $500 for a good set
rolled into a tire shop right on woodward on chords and got 2 new indys and kept going
We may end up putting the stock suspension on my Dads bronco when it comes time for tires due to how expensive the tires are that are currently on it
How much are they
i still have to go and scrape all the rubber out of the wheel well
All I'm gonna say is they are big Mickey Thompsons that are on it currently
Like $500 a tire?
put some ling longs on it
that sounds cheap to me
the 255/40/18 tires on my ss cost 240 a piece

@wispy cloak @misty mantle ukrainians are something else
Paid about $75 a pop for 2 front tires on my ATV
Usd
So a full set before tax or install is about $1200
$150 for both, and $20 for mounting and disposal of the old tires

My audi is on 205s stock
Wheelspin city with the Dturbo power
mfs using artillary rounds as a hammer
thats crappy
Its intentional there is basically 0 arch protrusion in the boot.
but muh big tires
i think i might go down to 235s on my car
The dakota is as close to stock as I could get
it has ALOT of grip
wont see that good a boot on many estates, especially these days.
400hp fwd and it spins half of 1st
My super duty will gladly spin through half of the gears it has
its always wet here so most of the power I have is pretty useless.
Torque monster lifestyle
im pretty sure i make high 300s tq
My petrol 305 will spin many gears on 15 year old winter tyres.
Something something blah blah blah numbers
that was my volvo last winter
Its really fun until you actually need to stop
the snow tires were so worn and old it would start burning rubber while going up parking garage ramps
more than a 30 degree grade and it starts peeling out at the smallest touch of the gas
That's how my audi is
It'll spin into second
Which sounds impressive
I have a little FWD hatchback with 20 year old tyres on the back if I lifted off the throttle going around a roundabout it would bring the rear around
i dont fuck with old tires
me and old tires dont like eachother
I have decent tyres on my maroon one but all my other cars are pretty tragic on that front.
I only keep old tires on low power vehicles
ive wrecked 3 cars my whole life each time it was cause dry rotted tires just flew into a million parts
I have 2 of the same car one with tragic tyres one with expensive ones.
I was driving the decent one for ages then had to swap into the shit one, bombed it up to a roundabout at 60mph start braking >locked up.
I don't even want to know how old the firetruck tires are
yes
thats how old
Last time I priced new tires for it fronts were $1000 a piece before install or tax
And rears were $500 a piece
So about $4000 before tax or install
It's an ungodly number
Its funny the wheels on my estate exceed the value of the car.
i bet you could find better tires for it behind someones house
It has nice tires on it
people constantly pester me for the recaro seats in my parked black car
people get more annoyed because they are in pretty dreadful condition at the moment as I dont really care.
i get 3-5 messages a week asking if i want to sell them yet and 1-2 notes left on the car a month asking if ill sell the whole thing or just the seats
like who tf wants to buy a whole car for seats
mini people
they do look cool though
those poor bastards in the supercharged mini community. i wonder if they are okay
Dont look too closely at the arch here, perfect recreation with caveman hammer technology.
where the arch angle goes funny all inside the door along the sill had to be rebuilt for an MOT.
needs patched again as theres another hole you can see now lol
it looks fine to but i saw a cobalt yesterday with cardboard taped over the rockers
soooo
A fuel level sensor for my audi is $200 so I could literally buy a whole other parts car for that and a couple of other things and come out on top
they sometimes use a magnet here to check heh
need to mix in some metal shards to the filler.
The holy grail of b5 parts are headlight washer caps and bumper clips
Because the bumpers are notorious for sagging
ive got a box of lathe fillings for that
Im going to be respraying the estate with RAL 5012, just bought 16 cans. Its probably gonna look shit but grey is too normie.
quebec only has inspections for cars being brought into the province and my buddies come to me with cars they buy to docter them up to pass inspection then over time they rebuild properly
My super duty started as an american truck, was exported to canada, and imported back to america
Then ended up in the south for a decade
If anyone here feels like buying a double-decker bus, now's your chance
new home just dropped
go get it at auction then
you think it could carry a cobalt ss in the bottom back half and flat tow a volvo?
with living area on the second level
idk what a colbalt SS is but probably
buses have got pretty huge engines so yeah i think it could tow the vast majority of things
no idea
i only came here to say that theyre for sale
you could probably sleep in that bus as it is cause its got seats like a bed
i have a picture somewhere
if i was to buy a bus like that id be living it and the bottom half would be a work shop and be able to hold a car
top deck looks like this
go to Flickr.com and search for ācommunity transit 2010 Enviro500ā
It's probably rear engined
my hot take: the porsche 911 gt3 is overhyped
i like the car it's just that the supra kids have moved on
very hot take, considering it out performs a good chunk of super cars in track conditions and road conditions and does so while being reliable.
supra on the other hand is only good modded
any gen
even the lastest one isnt great stock
it corners well and has active aero but it has 2 less hp than the 991.2
i want to ask porsche engineers why a 2 hp deduction
hp doesn't mean everything
the nordschleife straight
Supra kids are the kids that believe horse power means everything
more hp gives more top speed
the spec sheet shows a 2hp reduction but not the extra suspension r&d
not 2hp. at the kind of speeds the gt3 does you are talking an extra 100hp to make a big difference
the gt3 used to be my dream car but not anymore bc it's not unique and not understated anymore
i still like the 458 italia
and the e39
a Ferrari, which will break 5km off the lot. Smort.
all ferrari owners have a stick and a bag of marshmallows in their glove box
McLaren's are reliable, maybe require a complete rebuild of the electrical harness but that's easier than an engine rebuild.
i think i mentioned yesterday the horrendous build quality i witnessed
this message
so far you're the only person I've found to say this
Mclaren 720s build quality is worse than Tesla?
its a common thing
my legs hurt. what could be the issue?
cancer
why are you asking the car channel in a discord and not a doctor
you know as much as i like to joke about ferraris catching fire that was his own damn fault
yeah lol
tbh I wouldnāt think brakes would get that hot just doing that to set those things on fire
but they prob couldāve saved it if they tried hard enough
they arent moving fast but the actual wheel speed of the car is high so its not hard for the brakes to get hot
I guess
OH
brain wave
I was always thinking itād only be hot if he was actually braking but realized if a corn husk got jammed in between anything stationary and spinning that alone could make it ignite
silly me
i wanna test my testosterone levels. i cant grow facial hair yet im almost 19
i also dont have chest hair
š³
true
bruh some people just cant grow beards
mine started at 14 but i know people in their 50s who are still baby faced
you know im not much older than you right
I'm 18 and can easily grow a half decent beard in a week

Mad Trump

Is anyone here really good with relays and electrics?
I have a relay that isnāt made anymore and I need to know what relays I can use to replace them. (The pin positions do not matter)
V23072-C1061-A303
Itās for the central locking in my bmw
I can get a daughter board made to adapt different relays but I do not know what relay I could use to replace
E36 control module just buy a donor or entire replacement for like $35-60
It's not coded to the car or anything
You can still buy thoese relays, how have you condemned them if you dont know the pinout?
theres the diagram if you did want to bodge in some other relays.
remapping your car to save gas was the biggest lie ever told lmao
Remapped my golf 6 1.2 from 85hp to 130hp, holy shit the difference is impressive! It drives so much better. However I'll call the gas pedal the money pedal from now on.
Where from?
Yeah but I need to find another one from a coupe from the same year apparently
just put the PN# in ebay
Are you in Europe?
Or just buy a donor board for the relays
Australia the shipping is crazy
ah
if you are desperate I guess any 15A SPDT relay would do, I am sure I have ones with a pretty close pin spacing.
Ok I have found a guy near me, $60 for a used board Iāll try him I think the relays should all be the same from all years at least I hope
yeah I'd expect the relays to be the same - this a door lock or window issue?
Door lock
I have a friend who could make me daughter pcb boards to adapt another relay onto it
A fellow Bmw enjoyer š¤
You could also do it without a board and just solder a relay up
I really want an e34
fancy, some wires and hot glue the relay in the box.
I have like .... 6 BMWs right now or so. I had 8 or 10 at my highest.
Not if the pin positions its too dissimilar
Yes, with wires.
How big are 15 amp wires?
14 awg
Has to fit in small little pin holes
well the size of the pins have to take 15A so..
its not continuous so wouldnt stress.
Valid
It's all fused anyhow
You guys have been the most helpful of all the communities Iāve tried, thanks guys.
Itās sad to see the proper relays go obsolete when theyāre only gonna keep breaking lol
I guess thatās the point
I expect teslas will be the same one day
This is the factory spec
How close do I need my operate and release VDC to be?
any 12v relay will do
U reckon?
I guess it will either be supplied 12v or 0v right? so yeah that makes sense
Most outputs are going to pull down to ground
BMW doesn't do a like 5v high 1v low, its always 5-12v high 0v low
Right so yeah any should work?
Yep basically
Cooooool I might even be able to fix it this weekend then!
If you want a forever fix go get a solid state relay š
(just watch for diode requirements)
Alright now youāre testing the limits of my high school science class 1 term of circuit knowledge š
A diode is like a resistor but only goes one way right? What do I need to watch out for?
haha first things first get a working replacement going, then you can experiment
That looks like an E36 lol
Yessir
The previous owner thought they were an electrician ššš
Iāve pulled it apart now but it was literally twisted wires with tape š
Hehehe on the list of things to do. At least the rest of the car works. Kind of the sunroof works but catches on the wind deflector
Oh and the interior door cards and headliner all need work š
š«” gotta keep āem alive tho
I crashed a perfect one so now Iām restoring one as a redemption build š
haha damn
have a bit more welding to do on my estate before painting it light blue, no panels available and I am not a very good panel beater so heh.
anythings better than boring grey

how do i know if my kenwood DDX4016BT supports mp4 vidios to playback
i culd not finde enything so i gues it dosent i mean latest apple device it supports is the iphone 5s
Archaic
It also supports iPods, so yeah
it can stream vidios from the 30 pin dock contor on ipods tho
i got it for free and its bether then stock audi a4 sline 2007 head unit
There is still a huge community behind iPods
That doesn't mean it's good by modern standards
i relly whanted a sub foower and that unit dosent support it
this is the unit
If you're gonna get a sub and amp, may as well spend some more money on a new head unit that supports recent phones
true it worked with my samsung a71 so im happy for the moment
and the car is giving a fault code beckuse this unit is not installed
Just Audi things
ya to top it of its a b7 2.0 tdi
the oil pump have gone broken one time the engine survied but not the turbo when it hapend but works just fine now hehe affter some spare parts and meny work hours
Drove this Fisker today... quite fun, loads of power, sometimes even too much (wheel hop, torque steer). Interior, not 100% fan of all controls, too much in the screen. It can only be in landscape mode when in park, can't drive it in Landscape mode which is a shame as that's actually better imho. And we got locked in, the passenger door didn't work sometimes
EV's are kind of a cheat mode for high power.
Those screens man, i swear, my night blindness would be the death of me with screens shining at me constantly
Tf whatās the point of the rotating screen lol
Widescreen to watch Netflix or whatever while charging
But why you'd want it portrait... idk
At least the climate control is not in the digital screen
More settings are, but the basics are below it
Very crunchy mmmmm mmmmm
Bring back SAAB's night mode.
Night panel lol, nah, my car has a dimming dial, can turn down every light in the car
Even headlights? š„
Iāve been told I need to match the 132 ohm coil resistance to avoid blowing a driver. Is this true ?
Nah, they just get hidden
i think you'd be hard pressed to not hit that
How do you mean? Most I can find are near 400 š¦
and thats fine
you would not want to go lower than 132 ohms
I dunno - should not be an issue
if you current limit it with a resistor should be fine
the resistor is not built into the relay i'd thi nk
Fair so I might want to test with a bread board first?
is an oil change every 5k miles overkill?
0w20 4 cylinder
I am the literal definition of whatever they call āhigh wear environmentsā
dusty, constant stop and go, short trips, hot asf etc
With constantly short trips .. maybe not
Depends on how much time is in-between it also
lemme check I have a picture of the last time I did it
was around 47k miles, now Iām at 51,700 ish
found it
December last year
10 months?
I'd then do it once a year
I change the oil in the super duty every 5000 miles
It's fords "extreme conditions" interval
i do the oil on all my cars every 5000km
the oil on my purple ss gets changed after any abuse
I do the oil in my ATV every hundred miles or so, all the small engines I do every year, and my Bronco I do every 3,000
3000miles is 4800km so thats around what i do
the purple ss gets new oil after track days and things like that and it got new oil after i went to detroit and back cause it did 2400km and 9 hours of burnouts and launches in 3 days
do the oil when I change the engine every 5000 miles.
Actually fitted a engine without draining the oil so just used that

I wonder if they've tried to do that with Ford and GM
yikes
I just wait for the 15000km service interval lol
my oil is always black but its a diesel so it's black after like 200km
black oil means it has oil
what kind of small engines do you have?
i hate black oil
i know its normal for diesels and cars that haven't always had perfect maintenance.
but it just makes me think the engines about to fall apart
my black cobalt ss always has black oil no matter what. it goes black within 30km of an oil change. but my purple one always comes out amber. and it only took 2 1000km oil changes in my volvo with atf mixed into the oil to get it to come out amber after every 5000km usually it takes 5-6
My 2018 f250s oil doesnāt go black almost at all, my Subaru either (it burns most of it) the challenger also doesnāt, pretty much the rest of my shit does
the more i look at BMW the more i appreciate Hyundai
Mainly mower and generator engines, as well as ATV
I would assume they dim at night, haha
My Miata does
need a nice cozy cluster
that ice isnt from outside thats from the inside of the windscreen heh
cant wait for winter, hopefully we get decent snow as its fun trawling about in old shitboxes with winter tyres with everyone in their modern cars on summers like "wtf"
this was probably the favourite cluster ive had
I really like the audi and firetruck clusters
I just want my fuel gauge to work
But I haven't had time to pop the tank open yet
its a shame they never included a temp gauge on that cluster, just a light for "fucked" and another for "mega fucked"
"buy a new cylinder head light" and "just buy a entire engine"
I always liked this cluster.
That's how the temp gauges are on my f350
Cold, normal, or fukushima
Oil pressure is also good or zero
But the truck shuts off with low oil pressure because heui
The idiot lights and fuel and temp were to the right.
When it was off it was just all dark glass.
For some reason they set the warning lights on cars with these to like 105 / 110C which is pretty extreme
basically if the like came on you were probably already fucked
Yep
Exactly how the super duty is
I don't understand why audi thought an oil temp gauge was more important than an oil pressure gauge
Need to add a oil temp sensor to mine to see how toasty its getting, it has a oil to water heat exchanger so they should theoretically stay about the same but.
it's probably burning it
most likely in the head or turbo
I just deezul
injection shop called, my pump is finally done
have someone going to pick it up for me
then tonight I can start working on putting the car back together
This fine German automobile just makes clean oil
It has only had one oil change in over 15 years
But it has also only done 2000 miles in that time
it's junk, I'll get rid of it for you
and only charge you $400 for disposal, it's a good deal
drain it and fill it with atf then come back 3 days later and put oil in it\
No
The oil wasn't bad
ive done some bad things with atf
shits great
sometimes it works too well
ive used it on sluged up motors and it does such a good job cleaning them that all the gunk holding the motor together leaves and it starts leaking from everywhere and burning oil
@brittle totem got Wireless AA now
And the volume button here is not ridiculous like on VW's thank God
i wish i coulld use wireless audio
but my ears hurt cause it usually sounds much worse than a cable\
Oh Bluetooth/wireless sounds perfectly fine with this setup
I'm actually unsure how this setup works tbh, with the wireless device it's connected via WiFi, but my phone is also still connected over bluetooth to the head unit... so the music goes via Bluetooth?
I don't mind the cable that much, but the port is only 500mA which can barely keep the phone charged
Is it just plug and play ? How much did cost ? My brother might get something similar for his Cupra.
Yeah in the passat 30-40% volume is fine after that its extreamly loud for no reasonš
Yup, was ā¬75 with shipping
A little bit of driving with a helmet cam. Short shifting since it's still at pretty low mileage.
I've got some bonus footage but a bug splatted on the camera lens and I also didn't have a secondary mic for better audio, so I uploaded it separately if you're interested: https://youtu.be/am8hVVjYx7c

captain sparkles is just doing side quests now
He will forever be known as "Pro's Don't Talk Sh*t" to me.
you ever heard of a df goblin?
I have not.
The Atlanta streets had a crazy variety of cars out racing! The wildest of all had to be this Cobalt SS powered kit car! At only 1500 pounds with quite a few modifications, it was putting the hurt on literally everyone it lined up against!

its a kit car that uses a cobalt ss engine
it weighs as much as a happy meal
fully street legal
some ariel atoms use that engine too
Probably not for all states.
Then again. There are different laws for kit cars.
legal in all 50 mexico and Canada
Oh, right. It's one of those cars that are technically legal.
Since they require a donor car and everything.
it uses almost everything from a cobalt
even the gauge cluster
"Is the Goblin street legal?"
"Registering the Goblin for street use is possible in most states.
The laws for registering assembled/custom/kit vehicles vary by state. Some states require additional equipment like a safety glass windshield, parking brake, emissions equipment and more. You'll want to research your state to see the requirements.
You should also search our forum to see if anyone has registered in your state.
We don't yet offer all of the specialty items that some states require. Once you determine what is required in your state, contact us to see what parts we have available to help you register."
In other words. "I guess it's legal?"
it depends on how you spec it. because you can get it anywhere from a metal tube cage with wheels to a car with body panels fenders and windows, mirrors, turn signals
Yeah, that's what I mean. It's up to the owner to make it compliant to any of the local laws.
yup but they offer pretty much everything you would ever need. some sates just need less
cough
Florida
cough
texas too
Though, I am pretty sure Georgia is also pretty easy on the rules.
Guess you just need to browse through the laws surrounding kit cars for that state, I guess.
seems like it would be fairly straigh forward in cali too somehow
Register a specially-constructed or modified vehicle (built for private use and not constructed by a manufacturer for resale) with the California DMV
The emissions equipment mainly apply to California
If the engine is from a compliant car, then it should be all good.
a stock cobalt ss turbo motor would pass smog like its nothing with a factory gm stage 1 tune
and that would be a 1300 pound car with 290hp and 270tq
My dad put a Ford Performance tuning box in his Bronco to unlock the throttle response, turbo, and some other stuff. You donāt even need to floor it for it to push you back into your seat now, and you can REALLY hear that turbo spin
i love turbo noise
And itās a ford part, so it doesnāt even void the warranty
Just like that cobalt ss tune
I always found it cool how gm and ford offer factory speed parts
Gm sells a book on how to build an ecotec to 850hp
Even though my dad used my good Bluetooth scan tool to enable all the GOAT modes, but as long no one from ford sees that, warranty is still good
I wish i had a car where you could fuck around like that
I know some cars you can enable a hidden lap timer with scanners
Ford is practically begging you to do stuff to the full-size bronco. They literally plastered āAccessory Readyā all over the damn thing
With arrows pointing to factory mounting spots for stuff like light bars
want to see something cool gm offered
https://www.crateenginedepot.com/Cobalt-Stage-3-2006-07-Performance-Upgrade-Kit-88958719-P10455.aspx
88958719 Cobalt Stage 3
"Unique PCM which includes a calibration for the smaller pulley, an adjustable rev limiter, a 100 octane mode, and a nitrous algorithm."
in 2006 for what is essentially an econobox
Wow
question is does ford sell light bars
Guess I should have said 3rd party accessories
fords dropping the ball
making a car to be modded and not making 1st party mods
people would pay big money for a ford steel bumper with a winch mount
The main target is the f150
lol @novel relic remember that we talked about rusty discs?
This happens if you let them rust, donāt drive for a couple of days and then drive again
They were spotless before this
Pretty much yeah
I drove my audi on brakes that sat for 15 years
how did that go
The brakes work great

Front pads are really dusty though
lol where do you live
Illinois
weird
It was parked inside the whole time
if i let a cars brakes sit for 15 years here i would sail into a wall when i drove it
ah that explains it
It got new brakes right before it was parked
And I had the whole hydraulic system apart up top
Next brake job this car gets I will be using pads that produce minimal amounts of dust hopefully
that looks cleaaan nice!
Or just buy one that they know is good quality from a brand like Warn WITH a winch
trying out colours, masking on the edit is about as good as it will be when I actually paint it heh
looks nice
Letās write an honest review about my shitbox (2011 Chevy Spark 1.0 50kW BiFuel LS).
Acceleration: Really terribly slow (everyone is tailgating) at the end of the acceleration lane youāre at 50km/h :csKEKWAIT:
Fuel economy: although my harsh driving (pedal to the metal) i get 7,4l/100km, with the current LPG price in the Netherlands of 0,80⬠per l it is economically viable making the total cost of ownership about 0,20ā¬/km.
Seat comfort: Around ok for an hour or 1 and a half of driving.
Noise: when driving on fresh ZOAB little to no noise.
Sound system: Ok for a ā¬12000 new price car (no Bluetooth but AUX or USB)
Vision: the thick A pillar annoys me making that I must turn my head to look in (sharp) curves.
Under the bonnet:
Everything seems easy accessible for maintenance that after watching some videos on YouTube (for example Chrisfix) you can do it on your own. (Had replaced the headlights with blue coated H4, was just taking the plug out, dust over off and the lamp was accessible (compare that with some other cars where you need to take the whole unit off)).
TL:DR
Ok and very cheap for daily, non sport driving, terrible for motorways.
hear me out... nebula purple
I already have a maroon one heh
Plus I am a cheapskate so will just be using the cheap common RAL 5012 paint.
still a side wall bubble man
mot failure (i think)
