Tbh used car prices in the UK aren't bad - though it varies wildly
Ah new cars, yeah the US is deffo cheaper for that. Used car market is typically cheaper in the UK in contrast to the US iirc.
True but compared to the rest of Europe it's very expensive in the Netherlands.
Not to bad here in Sweden ehiter. Just that insurence is joke for people under 25 years old.
Oh here the yearly tax on something like Koenigsegg Regera is like €3000 a year. But at the same time your regular family Volkswagen car has like €1000 just in tax to.
If you don't have anything useful to add... Just don't
UK is cheap used as there's no real export market for used RHD cars
Ah thats a fair point
NL also has an ownership tax every month
I pay €61/month in tax for the mighty Corsa
Based on weight and fuel type
Given the netherlands awesome pro bike stance
I guess im not too surprised they tax ownship that high but
So that's based on vehicle price and age then I assume?
I dont really know what our tax is based at least with cars like Cadillac escalade has like €240 in yearly tax but meanwhile our passat has like €900 in yearly tax.
Ngl that's imho more fair then our current system
Because I can buy a 300k Ferrari and pay the same monthly tax as a Ford Focus for example
Yeah that the new Hybrid Ferrari has a lower tax rate then a GOLF GTI.
In the UK road tax is allegedly based off emissions - however my car has a 4 cylinder 1.4l petrol and has higher road tax than a new V8 Mercedes (which has far higher CO2 output)
Oh yeah that makes more sense, I think most countries use that
Yup
The Passat would be €163/month here, or €1960/year
Related "fun fact": NL is quite wealthy but we have the oldest car fleet of Western Europe
Guess what's the yearly tax is on that Ferrari in Sweden.
The Hybrid? Idk, 300?
€104 per year 😅
wonder why - I mean keeping vehicles longer is good to an extent (here in the uk people get new vehicles far too often and imo its a waste)
too often are status symbols
Meanwhile with GOLF GTI Clubsport it's €1000 for the first 4 years then €150 after those 4 years.
As new cars are way too expensive, nobody can really afford it. Take a base Polo, that's already €27k, which is over €6k more than in Germany for example
So people just drive their cars longer, and we often import a few year old car instead of purchasing a new one
Combined with the high road tax, high fuel prices... It's harder for people to save up money
My plan never was to drive the Corsa this long, had it for almost 7 years now, but cars are so freakishly expensive it doesn't really make any sense to get a new one
If I trade this one in, I get like €3k back for it? Private sale ~€4.5-5k? I went to look at a 2016 Astra... So 7 years old, still had to put up €13k
And for the GOLF GTE it's just €35 per year same as with electric cars.
I'd only be upgrading to get "something new" as there's 0 issues with my car, and it has been completely reliable since the day I got it. It actuality runs on LPG which makes it very affordable to run...
PHEV <50g/km are taxed at ¼ of a petrol car, although that benefits will be gone within 2 years. EV's currently pay .. 0
from 2019, but still
2020 numbers, I know last year they went up, iirc 2022 we had 11.8 years average
So Italy has still slightly older cars
But I do think Italy in general is a "poorer" country? Don't quote me on that and don't take it the wrong way, I'll look up some figures also 😛
It is (thanks to brexit give it a few years and the uk will be like Italy
)
They have removed all of the tax benefits for PHEV company cars now in Sweden they hade stupid low benefits taxes before like Volvo V60 D3 was twice as expensive as Volvo V60 T8 in "benefit" tax so a lot of companies just got a bunch of hybrids but they never charged them anyways so they where just running on the ice engine at all times. Right now their is only benefit you get as company car drivers is on EV's where they remove €35k euro on list price. So you will be taxed lower per year if you have something like a Model y and then a base Passat and you don't need to pay any tax for the drives you do privately anymore.
but they are 😆
Yeah we had the same "problem" with stuff like the Volvo D6, Outlander PHEV, Golf/Passat GTE etc in 2013-2015. Basically free to run as company cars
Same "problem" with EV's, especially Model 3's in 2019
Can't find 2022 numbers, but 2021 was on average 11y5m in NL, and average getting scrapped at 17y
Although the amount of 20+ year old cars I see daily is high
The Volvo "mild hybrids" are a joke anyway - were purely made for the tax benefits ^. 400wh battery - literally the capacity of 4 laptop batteries
Nearly all car companies does that now my aunt bought a new KIA last year and the seller just said that mild hybrid battery was just there to get a lower yearly tax it didn't help anything with consumption at all.
Weren't mild hybrids basically non impact in fuel consumption
Got this from my grandpa, is like 60+ years old, still looks and feels brand new
Guess I can take my own wheels off now 😂
Ngl I dont have that handle, that's really neat and easy to remove wheelnuts
Also, pls don't steal my new wheels @feral reef

Also as they arent 2 ugga dugga'd to the power 10
Friends Escort we had the wheel go on the motorway and that one came off fine with a little ratchet, later changed the rest and they were on so tight they snapped.
would have been fun to deal with at the side of the road

Classic
Apparently the garage did a fine job tightening mine, they came off nicely
We properly torked them now
Got a picture btw?
Found it, very
Yeah those
💀
I have feeling that Italian people might be "Cheap"
didn't get my truck fixed till now because I need to do inspection, and I've seen like trucks from the 90's
I'll go back test to the place and test drive some more trucks tomorrow.
The Volvo FMX tipper trailer was real nice to drive.
Never got to test the EV units.
Tesla has killed off their RHD X and S production
Morons lmao
Wait. They have?
I went to Redmond car show and found this
RHD my bad lmfao
bro wtf
Yeah, I figured.
But yeah you can still buy them in RHD markets, they’ll just be delivered as LHD
fuckin tiny ass car
i6 my love
i6 is love.
i6 is life.
runs on E100
That's less fun. Too high fuel consumption.
its a drift car so its not really a problem
uses around a barrel of E100 each trackday
🤨 @civic spoke
@elfin stone do you by any chance know if you can retrofit Touch & Connect, and get it full working?
So including the factory USB port and microphone, GPS etc
Still can't get over the improper looks of the aftermarket Android units

Corsa, right?
It’ll work in the Astra too
I'm fine with using my phone for sat nav, but then I could properly make calls and stream music, using steeringwheel controls etc
But the angle is weird
I bet it will yeah
Nope, you have to plug it in via USB, and you would need a UHP4 for phone calls
This is about cars
uh
Aah, I remembered that the CID looks bonkers in the Corsa
But then music only goes through the USB, e.g flash drives?
The radio has an iPod mode
Plug in your phone and you can use the steering wheel remote on it
But does that also work then with for example listening to the WAN show?
Yup
Oh really
Nice
I'd be interested in that
But CD40 USB is quite rare tho, no? And then adding a CID, UHP4, quite expensive I imagine
How does one even call using a CD40? Has no phone buttons, or a 0 key
The UHP is controlled with the big knob on the radio.
Should we transfer the talking into the DMs, retrofitting the things is a bit complicated? And people seem to be bothered by it ^^
Just your average American car.
damn straight
And your average C63 owner drifting with questionable control over the car.
i just got my average L/100km to 4.3l which is nice
Just 0,3l/100km over my personal best.
Rip subs
😬
Sound crisp
I might be able to finally get better mileage out of my car now that I have replaced the bad caliper.
Want to find someone to help me replace rotors and pads, tho.
Was it scraping or something?
Yeah, the caliper was sticking quite a bit. Give me a sec and I'll show you a picture...
Glow in the dark rotors. (:
Don't you have to be driving and using the brakes like a maniac to get the rotors to glow?
You usually do. But not if you have a caliper that sticks.
Which just means that it applies the brake all the time, even when I don't want it.
Up until it has worn down the pad material enough to spin more freely.
Man, those American cars really don't fit in our tiny Swedish parkins spots

Jokes on you modern European cars don't even fit into old parking spots
Laughs in owning a car that has the exact size of a 70s car
It's not just the us where cars are getting ridiculously big its everywhere
In europe you just get punished for it in more ways than emptying your wallet
We had to widen the parking spots on our street
That's uncommon
Usually the decision would be to get rid of them
But it's always kinda funny when i drive home looking at those SUVs trying to fit into parking spots made in the 70s and park on the curb to not be parked on the street
European skill issue, cars are inevitably increasing in size. It's time for Europeans to increase road size 😭
To be fair, some of those Europeans are good at driving through narrow streets
Some Americans I've seen need to pull over to the side of the road to let an oncoming car pass
You cant widen streets without doing the bulldozer method
Street width often isn't the problem
Honestly
Investing in making places more car friendly is politically a bad move
Unless you seriously don't want to bother with the younger population
I have a "built" s40 now
FTO Swaybar and Evo 3 brakes
Evo 3 alignment bars
brand new shocks and H&R lowering springs
Every suspension component has been replacing with new stuff
😳
did you have to replace the pad too? and check the rotor for warping
I would imagine the heat would mess with the rotors shape after a while and the pads would be down to nothing
Pads are basically down to nothing. Replacing all four corners with rotors and pads ASAP.
Nice
Thinking about that. If they fit OEM calipers.
E46 320i.
500 SEK (kr) is somewhere in the $50 range.
Oh, right. Should add some extra hardware to that as well. At least wear sensors or something? Idk
Also, those prices are with taxes.
Oh dang $236 for all of that?
I take it back that’s cheap af
how is it so cheap? I thought Brembo was high end
They are having trouble fitting into US parking spaces at this point...
https://www.vice.com/en/article/y3pyzx/american-cars-are-getting-too-big-for-parking-spaces?utm_source=reddit.com
Thats your brake LED you should turn that off
HAHA they can cry while my 2011 bmw 3er (that's perfectly sized) is able to fit into the garage with ease
Me: Laughs in carport parking for a 2023 Ford Bronco Big Bend
Rated R
That's what the average 1.0 TSI owner would do
😛
Is there a way to turn it off

Isn't that quite annoying around town?
It's fun for once but annoying every day imho
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, must be a similar car”
Oh no there's RPJ, on his way to steel my wheels
Swiper, no swiping!
I mean, for an odd reason there's a high amount of American V8's in my tiny village, but they all drive considerate atleast while driving through town
Also a Brabus G-Class, but that guys a prick
Thinks he can go 80 through a school zone because he drives a semi truck
Disgusting
Is that a heart at the tow hitch?
Or rather, a broken heart?
So sad
Broken
Give it some love
Oh
Funnily enough I don't dislike those wheels on a Golf
Wouldn't be my choice initially, but I don't think they're wrong
Colour of the car is also interesting
You shouldn’t dislike those wheels on any car!
Grey?
Give me your wheels, I'll put them on the Corsa
Some brown in it, no?
Or that's just massive editing
"Ok so we're going with grey metallic brown thing" ~ VW salesman
That just looks grey to me
I guess this is what people feel like when I tell them my car isn’t white
It’s cErAmIc MeTaLlIc (white, grey or silver depending on the lighting)
Called it
Mines just Casablanca White
No metallic, too fancy
But for some reason, the roof is pearl
Not metallic, pearl
So uni & pearl
Lel
Well I see a dashcam, so atleast we'll get it on video when you crash it
Sharing is caring

This is why you get a RWD car, much more epic to oversteer into a guardrail
It’s bound to happen with that car
Speaking of oversteering, my car is a lot more oversteery with the new wheels
Might have to get an alignment done
At least it’s not in primer
No.
True
It's even worse when someone has like a base model A3 with 16" wheels and it's in primer
I always call those primer
And I always will call them primer
Well that's a benefit tho
No need to paint the new body parts
Also what's with all those windscreen decals

CC set to 130, can't even reach ut, so underpowered
Another sign why the mighty Corsa is superior

Heh Golf could barely keep up with the Hilux, not enough power to overtake

Exactly

Noice
Lol
Only Hilux I know here is driven by a retired contractor who sometimes still drives a trailer around for the business now run by his son, always soing atleast 30% under the speed limit
So can't relate
😛
i am an absolute piece of garbage
Self awareness is the first step
australias why are you folks have so much issues
Also, I put 17's now on my vehicular transportation device. 17's are required for a 1.2 pushing out a whopping 83
Just ask you bf to not do that

Getting bitten? Yes
Government actually mandated the 16's I had before

These 17's emit too much CO2
Every market got these 17s on this trim
Except NL

Classic NL doing NL things
Actually imported them from Germany

Here's some onboard footage from the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato launch drive at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway where the events team had set up a 3.75km mixed surface track to showcase the car's capabilities on both tarmac and gravel. Unfortunately, the GoPro mounting came loose on my second and final run, but at least I had footage from my opening...
Just missing the mandatory R stickers 😏
Well at our car meets it's so loud that you cant even talk probably over it always the Golf R owners and some Volvo V70 or VW caddy with way to many speakers in it.
Nah I think you got it wrong you meant the RS3 they are nearly always in primer because the Audi fan boys loves that "nardo gray" color,
Reminds me of the top trim Passat R-line edition which you could only could get in primer for some stupid reason.
If that's primer, it's beautiful primer.
This happend twice yeasterday like 30 sec later an M140i did the exact same thing. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJHCA34E/
Yeah it's just a matter of time before someone will crash there.
That green one is really a stunning color for a truck
I know a guy with a Passat in that color
That's an EV!
Primer
That's cool
Stupid quiet at low soeeds
Never.
😭
They only color that looks worse then black on a Passat. Or black is alright right after you have cleaned but not otherwise.
They are stupid expensive to buy. And range is limited.
But if you can work around those two things. Then they are amazing vehicles.
When I drove it, then it had 84% battery and 180 km's of range left...
Meaning that you have maybe 200 km's of range in total.
Should be enough to drive around Stockholm
They guy that my brother bought his Abarth from had an R-line edition Passat. He wanted a Passat that was a bit more fun to drive but he also didn't like that color but it was the only option available on it so he didn't have choice.
I dislike white on a Passat
While I like white in specific trims on smaller cars, on cars of that size it just looks cheap 😛
Only seen one 8,5 Passat in White but I still cant understanr why my dad picked black over lapiz blue for the same price.
A blue passat always makes me remind of the r36
Never seen this color on a Tesla before most be some new one.
It's just their Grey color. No?
According to Tesla it's Midnight Silver
Just one of 5 colors you can get
Very useful in a VW, testing if something still works
runs
Black, white, Grey, blue, and red?
13% apparently here
Si
damn. 90% of all their cars are grey scale.
Yeah it's great isn't it
For the Model 3 it's just 84%
Additionally, I challenge you to determine the free color of the Model Y (1), and the free colors of the Model 3 (2)

I can't remember. But aren't red and blue paid colors? Where as the others are free?
For the Model Y it's just white (hence why it's a whopping 44%)
Model 3, it's black and white (combined 54%)
LOL @ Enyaq
That moment when a Yaris Cross has more exciting colors than basically any other car
I mean, still 56% grayscale
But that means 44% non-grayscale
I wonder what the colors looks like for Porsche or Lambo.
It that for the new grey or is it with the old grey that they hade before ?
Like any other new car everyone just get white, gray or silver this days.
And then you have Redscale for Ferrari.
In my opnion Ferrari looks better in the darker blue colors then red.
If I had the old engine id have been malding as it took me a good like 20 seconds to go from 60 - 80
That one is so nice
I’ve posted here about that special color before
Brum
Nah they black
My nephew’s AMG
Bit greyed maybe
Ooh I think I actually recognize those wheels
Damn, at work i gotta lift these things in box constantly
Haha that exact one?
Also Aventadors and g wagons
So if I open up the hood, your name is going to be on the plaque? 😂
double up the battery voltage, give your nephew some more fun.
No need yet, he usually puts it on the slow mode by choice anyway
Yeah it's way better then the old grey that they hade before and I did some research and apparently you can only get that color and the new red one if you are in Europe since they are only build in Germany.
I guess so Tesla themselves calls it midnight silver.
car
100k bmw old cars have problems with airbags
Any w body guys in this place?
Yup but you can get it replaced for free and it's not just old BMW our 2015 model year got an airbag recall two weeks ago.
130kmh-140 is what everybody drives on California freeways
then the occasional charger cutting up traffic doing +50
and the Prius doing 100kmh in the passing lane
I’ve never seen that either
it looks nice
I’ve only seen the darker gray they have
You can't get one in that color in North America it's just for EU market since they are only build in the Berlin factory.
Oh interesting
Just passed someone with the vanity plate of "only god" and wanted to facepalm so hard
Fast car
My coolant reservoir was low as heck like well below the minimum line so I topped it off with stuff I found in my garage
the original color was green
but this stuff says it can mix with any color?
did I fuck up again lol
Are you just casually driving a 1 million car ?

alright, it has to do with games, but also cars, only 11 mph? really ford
No way its a gt teacher
Nice work, some nice shots, love the vibe!
Is this a pagani?
Was?
yes it’s really old lol
Oh, but you still have it?
He’s more of a collector I’m guessing?
Ahh
Does he do some maintenance on them before selling them then? So he can sell them for profit?
Factory new
minimal
Pickung up tuesday
those performance cars arent being driven balls to the wall there isnt much more to do than an oil change
Chewd them down to 350
the Pagani i drove yesterday was one of the very few cars that he rarely takes out because the cops dont like it
Lol
The fact im 6'8 an know i cant fit in that is sad
In Switzerland, basic driving training includes anti-drift training. They wet and soap the road for you to try handling the car.
Going there with my VW T3, wish me luck that I dont flip it xD
This car is only for guys with massive balls, thus the high PS and low speed
Have fun flipping it!
Tbh regarding this... See where it goes. Coolant doesn't get consumed, so it either leaks somewhere, or it leaks inside the engine 😛
Generally, those colorless ones are fine, it's also what roadside assistance caries for example
Oh lol, yes that'll do it
Tell him to get koenigsegg instead way better 😏
Same thing here in Sweden but on ice at least during the winter but I got to do it in a Nissan leaf with the most aggresive traction control that I have ever witnessed so it wasen't that hard to dodge the cons.
Wish we got that
Well I can get a seperate course, and will be planning to do that in the future
Training here is encountering one of the very many oil spills
Yeah we also got a simulated snow/ice field which we'll try now
But yeah, with modern cars this is so easy xD
testing!
ah dang
hopefully not
I can do one of those pressure tests where you like pump it up and leave it for a while to see if any air leaks out
look, YOUR car might not consume coolant 😉
Yeah well maybe it's just the cab like Nick McNickFace said, but yeah better check it
Well it shouldn't be a consumable 😛
I’m considering buying for my first car a 2013 Mercedes C300 or c350. Its 15,000 Canadian dollars.
I wanted to get a 2014 Bmw 435i but its 25,000$.
Anyone has any suggestions I should consider?
You want to get a used 2010s german car?
I pray for your sanity
Personally I find that parts are too expensive and repairs are needlessly complex
And that’s coming from someone who daily drove a subaru
I own two 20+ year old German cars
I’m personally looking for something with a v6 or grater and awd for around 15,000$ Cad. Thats why the c300 caught my attention
Personally I'd recommend an audi with the 1.8t
The V6s are just so bad to work on
That car in general is going to be annoying to work on
I told him buy a Jesko but even that's too expensive for him lol
Maybe a Gemera then the ultimate daily driver 😀
deciding on an exhaust placement
1 costs basically nothing and its a turbo diesel so wont be that obnoxious
Those exhaust hangers are basically nonexistent
just the way the downpipe of the new engine got joined to the mid pipe
wouldnt actually be sagging like that had it lined up properly
its way too small diameter for the new engine anyway so has to go, was just a bodge to get it on the road
Gotta do what you gotta do when its you're only fully road legal car I guess
its not but
I checked mine and the cap on the reservoir literally just has a tube coming out the top into a 90 then another 90
not really a valve or anything
Ohh you’re talking about the radiator cap itself? not the reservoir
@turbid onyx this is what mine looks like
it’s got the radiator cap itself on the left and the reservoir/overflow whatever on the right with the little black tubes coming out of it
Oh weird
depends on how it’s cared for
bmws can last a long time but they need super strict maintenance
average? then Honda
a normal person
yeah definitely Honda then
some guy was saying bmw is the 2nd most reliable car brand
its the 7th most unreliable car brand on average
on a list of 50
yeah no lol
wait him?
yes
I’ve never seen him do that lol
N54 master
just look in tech chat
You daily an alpha? How’s that?
Here in the states it’s…lol
Last time I saw an alfa it was in the shop
last time i saw a bmw it was in the shop
i like the old 1980s alfas
the one that thomas has from throttle house
that’s a beautiful machine
It doesn’t help that our dealer network is dogshit and sketchy as hell
We had a couple here in texas go under for fraud 💀
shiny
i keep her clean
have to do some hood mods this summer because the thing is too big for the hood to go back on
🥱
that one E90 standing in the middle
And some modern ones.
Always a BMW

New'ish bike
And we found this one in the peasant parking lot for all of the none Italian cars. @deep zealot
Move to Sweden then on of the only countries that understands that wagons is superior over SUV/Crossovers.
Maybe one day
That’s something I’d make in KSP that would immediately explode on the runway
About everything I build in KSP explodes on the runway
Either explodes or is way too small for the thrusters it has and goes at yes MPH
They were actually going to build it
Two small issues though
It would take multiple miles of runway
And they had no money
And a lot of Jet fuel
Russia has tons of oil
Like a lot. One of the perks of having 6 million square miles of siberia.
Would have helped if their Buran shuttles weren’t awful
They also had a an225 set to wumbo that was supposed to do something similar
No idea why its in german though
They really wanted to be NASA so bad
queue for halfords is pretty long today int it
Sorry youre too bri ish for me govna
The policy I had on my 306 N/A diesel is expiring and ive run quotes which will be more than my modified TD 305 to insure
306 too new
same insurer will cover my 305 for the same usage for like £290
guess they dont like "new" cars
This is an entirely stupid number of engines making it aerodynamically unfeasible. And the wing efficiency can't be good with that many interruptions either. Which is kinda important if you want to fly at high altitudes.
Thats on the lower end. They proposed up to 40.
Might as well build a rocket at that point
Because there is not much plane left under all those engines
Its also two an225 fuselages if you didnt realize.
imagine the stress on that center member
Probably around 4 if i had to guess
at least. Maybe even 5.
basically 17 year old prices
How many of the 24 engines can fail before it falls out of the sky?
Was there enough fuel to run all of them?
They arguably had the better shuttle.
Yeah for all two orbits 💀
Doesn’t matter how good something is if they can’t maintain it
but what a good two orbits they were!
😂
Well, I mean, yes, the USSR collapsed and the program got mothballed.
That said, it had a pretty awesome auto pilot system that is quite respectable.
And had some other neat things as well.
Just imagine... if there had not been a Cold War and a race to outspend the other, but like Lockheed and Boeing duking it out for the best design.
I'd argue humanity would have won.
How the hell am i supposed to know that
I don't know, you posted the image. I'm asking questions.
This thing never made it past computer simulations.
I dont even think the ussr could afford that many engines

Big sad
||Would never have happened with some proper do88 parts 😅 ||
RS3 swap it
I can suspect that it happened because of average Golf R owner likes to launch the car at least 20 times a day.
But the previous owner probably did 😉
I want to put a mordern VNT turbo on the 305
cant beat the reliability of trusty old laggy ones though
you smoked him! literally!
Is this road wide enough for 3 cars to fit
6.9m or 69dm, nice
Parked definitely, driving it's quite narrow
With mirrors a car is easily over 2 meters wide
Just install both
Install a VNT and keep the original. Twin turbo
At first I thought it was some high schooler vaping again
damn weird seeing george on here
That's rough.
How much even is a Golf R engine is it even worth replacing or is it totaled ?
I'm voting for an engine swap to RS3 engine if that's even possible to do.
replace it with a nice practical crossover
RS3 engine would be more reliable, no?
No turbo or anything in 'em.
No they are turbo charged
Yeah it's on the same platform as the RS3 right ?
Oh, yeah, it is. Forgot. But it's still not that much larger than the i4 engines.

Sound 10x greater than the 4 banger as well
Isn't it essentially a lopped off engine from the Lambo V10?
Even if it's turbo charged
Let's see
😉
RS3 swapped gen 1 opel mokka
Can't find any info on that, but would make sense
I mean, I suppose it's called a baby V10 for a reason
Maybe it was for the older RS3 engines.
Either way. Any engine that isn't i4 is a fun one.

I wish there were more inline 5's
And inline 6's
i4 are honestly the most boring of the bunch. The problem is the manufacturers and that they package so well into mundane cars.
Props for Mercedes and Mazda for coming out with i6's.
Hopefully we will see more of them.
Hopefully
If we can get fun hybrid cars
That would be great
But not like merc and their new C63
I've heard good things about the Mazda.
Put hybrid on the I5's and the I6's
Oh, right. New C63 AMG is an i4 hybrid, no?
Yup
4pot from the A/CLA if I'm not wrong with a hybrid system strapped to it
@brittle totem Want to join me?
How much hp does a stage Golf R make? This is how much the GTI that my brother has at work managed to do with their parts.
Yep it is
which is why both the DAZA and the DKA engines are very widely known for making a ton of power
twin turbocharged setups possible on stock DKA engines making 1000+ hp easily
while the DAZA makes almost 900 hp stock engine
Focus and fiesta ST my beloved
Gm should redo the one that the Hummer H2/3 and Chevy Colorado/ GMC Canyon got
The i4 in my brothers Abarth sounds good and the car is fun to drive to so i4 can be fun to.
3 cylinder? No?
Nope 1,4l i4.
I think it's the same engine as they use in F3 cars.
i5pilled
Whats this
Have any of y'all ever had to deal with your dream car sitting on a lot you have to go passed every single day but can't even start to save up the money to buy it because not a single one of the job postings you've applied for in the past six months have even called you back? If so, how did you deal with it? Because that's exactly what I'm going through right now. I want this car so painfully bad, and I'm prepared to start putting in the long hours to one day make it mine but nobody even wants to give me the time of day so I have no way of even starting the grind towards getting this car. It's infuriating.
The car in question is a blue 2013 Mustang w/ 130k miles that's been sitting at a local used car lot with a big $8,995 sticker on it for eight months now. I'd be able to save up that amount before my next birthday if only someone would give my ass a job to do
There could be a reason that car has sat there for 8 months. To be honest, that gen Mustang isn't exactly rare, so I don't think it'd be a big deal if it did sell before you finally found a job
And really, the only advice I can give you is to keep working at getting a job. Refresh your resume, find a mediocre job in the meantime and keep looking for that nicer one.
Yeah in all honesty, I'd probably talk myself out of buying it during the time it would take to save up the money, it's more of the fact that I have to look at it every day and it's a constant reminder that the one thing I've been motivated to work towards as of recent is as of yet unobtainable through no fault of my own.
Even if you're making minimum wage, its better than $0
I spent 18 months getting a college certificate thinking I'd be able to make more than $7.25 once I came out the other side, only to realize the same companies who wanted me as a high school senior are the only companies who will take me as a college graduate. It hurts, but if scooping ice cream for seven bucks with my shiny new college education is what it takes to get me a car, I guess I just have to do it. Even if it'll take me years at that pay
Its entirely possible the jobs you're applying to have a reason for passing you up
I wouldn't doubt its a really dumb reason, but still
Like work experience or the contradictory industry experience
You could also look at jobs in cities farther away
a 1-2 hour commute isn't completely unreasonable, and you could always move closer too
assuming you live in the US. I'm not sure this is reasonable in other countries
Yeah I live in the US. I've thought about moving to new zealand though. No gun violence, the tech industry has started picking up over there (my certificate is in computer support, and most of the companies I've applied for are customer service so maybe an actual computer company will want me), one of the most attractive populaces by census. But that's kinda in direct opposition of my goal of buying a car though
yeah moving to a new country will only make that harder
The unfortunate reality with computer support is its a saturated market
lots of workers, not enough jobs
You might be better off looking at other IT related jobs
I should've just gone to school for collision repair lol. Then I could have worked on cars every day. Sucks I didn't start to become interested in cars until I had already started my education.
lol. It'll all work out in the end. I do hear a lot of people who work in the auto industry get too burnt out with cars to have much motivation to work on their own. Its not universal, but it does seem to happen
I personally would despise working on a project car or anything like that if I worked as a mechanic
The thing about that is that the only companies who will hire fresh college graduates with tech educations is companies who want them to do work that requires such an education, while only paying them minimum wage. It's because all of the serious tech companies who pay well will only hire people who have worked for 3-5 years at another tech company. So in order to get a good job in the IT space, you have to work yourself to death at a black company for 3 years first. Something I wish I had known before going to school.
That's why I no longer like building computers as a computer support person lol
and btw if your only goal rn is to just buy and own a car, get a cheap beater off marketplace lol. You can always work to having a nicer and more fun car later
yeah, tech support is a basic job now. And I definitely see a lot of contradictions in seeking people with years of experience while college grads are screwed. Like honestly its better to go for cybersecurity and/or network administration anymore
Well yeah, I wanna OWN a car, key word own. The car I currently drive, I don't own, but I pay for the gas, insurance, and maintenance costs for with the meager money I get from flipping computers. So I'm not allowed to modify or tinker with it in any way. It's a 2005 ford focus
I've been fortunate enough to have been in an area with a shit ton of IT jobs. A lot of shitty ones, but also a lot of government contracting jobs that pay pretty well and are seemingly a bit easier to get
I know a guy who literally just installs and repairs fiber optic cable. Gets paid pretty damn decently
Yep, that's what my father does. Installed phone lines for 20 years, made the switch to fiber and is treated like an actual person now. I'm happy for him, if a bit envious.
I appreciate those kind of suggestions
But our minimum is higher here
Yeah, even if you're stuck when looking for an IT job, there are plenty of jobs that pay better than McDeeznuts
A good friend of mine is unironically a TikTok moderator and iirc makes like $22 an hour or something
I'm pretty sure the state minimum is like 15 or 16 an hour here
So we probably make more just because it's a little more expensive here
yeah I think our state minimum is the federal minimum lol
Yeah no I'm in Colorado with all the Californians that whine about the minimum wage
makes sense
Min. wage in my state is as mentioned, $7.25 which I'm pretty sure is the federal minimum. The highest paying job in my area is $22/hr for carting pallets of pepsi all over for 8 hours a day. I'd like to do that, it saves me the price of a gym membership, but for some reason they've made it super hard to even apply to work there lol. Every site to apply looks like malware waiting to happen.
Could look at Amazon too. I've heard that it can suck, but iirc they actually pay dumb well
I have a friend that left working where i do at FedEx and went to Amazon
ooh wtf. $22 for moving pallets? That doesn't sound completely awful
$22 is pretty solid
Yeah that's basically what i do except we manually load everything
and yeah if $7.25 is the federal minimum my state is actually $1 higher lol
Crazy for me to think there are still states like that, I'm so used to this one
I don't even think fast food pays that shit here anymore tho
Not that the way it is here is the correct way
I think it's because it's soda so you have to be more careful with it? Idk. Anyways the alternative to me saving up the money for a proper Mustang is just me blowing all of my savings on a $2000 foxbody in the meantime
Eh, doubt it. Prolly just cause moving pallets is exhausting if you don't have a forklift lol
That's probably it
I'm looking to save up and get the new gen of mustang in about a year actually
I like fox bodies. $2k prolly gonna be a mid condition car tho
or a 4 banger
Which imo the 4 banger fox bodies are the perfect candidate for an Ecoboost 4 banger swap
EcoBoost 3 banger swap it
ew

I initially wanted to save up a ton to buy a newer Mustang and slap a Mach 1 front bumper on it, but then realized how long it'd take and settled for a 13-14 manual
I mean, the ecoboost mustangs are pretty solid for what they are imo
They can take stupid power for what they are
the V6 is the heretic spec
But v8 tho
So here's the thing
Can I make my argument for the Cyclone V6 or do I not even bother
the only reasonable solution to buying a v6 mustang is to LS swap it
or coyote, doesn't really matter tbh
Like the GMC Syclone?
V8 power baybeee!!
I'm hyped for my buddy to LS swap his 97 stang. The v6 is cringe, but he got it for dirt cheap and he's already promised the swap
my coworker was LS swapping a 71 Nova
but now he's kinda backtracked on that and wants to buy a 73 Nova that's already been LS swapped
but tbh he's kind of a clown
Well i struggle because on the one hand
Mustang cool
But on the other hand
I could make my fking firebird probably twin turbo 800hp or more for the 60k it would take to get the config of mustang i want
And i already have like most of what i need
Ok apologies but get ready for my novel
The 3.7 Duratec Cyclone V6 out of the 11-14 S197s is the cheapest engine in the long run out of the entire S197 lineup on account of it being the smallest engine, and the most fuel efficient available in that body style. It still makes 300 horse, matching the 4.6 three valve V8, without the insurance rates and the gas prices of an actual V8. I understand that the Coyote makes over 400 and gets marginally less gas mileage, with way higher insurance premiums, but in all honesty I don't have any use for that kind of power and I don't wanna be paying that much for something I don't 100% know I need / can appreciate. So for me, the 3.7 Cylone V6 makes more sense than the Coyote V8, I just wish the first thing everyone always says when they hear that wouldn't be "YoU sHoUlD gEt A cOyOtE aNyWaY"
Mans over here been typing a whole essay
I am unfortunately cursed with verbosity
this gives me the itch to pull copy pastas from another discord
tbh I can't imagine the insurance premiums are that much different
and if you're caring about mpg, simply do not buy sports car
They would probably be pretty high for me considering I'm not 25 yet
newer cars always have higher premiums
And yeah a speedy boi car ain't where you get mileage
my Prius was like $90 a month for insurance
Go get a wrx and get 30mpg holding 90mph
but my Corolla is like $40
that's cap
subarus get mediocre mileage due to being awd
and you will never get good mileage above 75mph
It was the built in fuel economy thing
It probably wasn't that great but Idk it wasn't my car
Idk how accurate that is
my Prius mpg would take a nosedive if I went faster than 72
Knowing what my dad paid per month on his 96 V8 Thunderbird, and what I pay on my 4cyl as a dude who's <25, I guarantee engine size would make a difference on insurance. The thing is, my Focus gets such bad mileage cause of its age that pretty much any engine in the S197 lineup would get better fuel economy than it...
Surprised the threshold isn't 60
I also call cap on that
on the mpg
What mileage does your focus get
I wanna hear what you consider bad mileage
depends on the type of car
sub 28mpg for a 4 cylinder car would be shit imo
damn, the old Focus is more of a shitter than I thought. Only rated for 29 highway
If I cruise at 85mph I get barely more than that with a 1.2L 4-cyl

But then it's at 4000rpm due to the gearing so makes sense
barely hovers at the bottom of my "acceptable" mpg for a sedan
So my focus has 231k miles on it, the rear end is rusted so badly it won't pass its next inspection, and there's something horribly wrong with the engine because it gets 12
tf
Oef
how is your car that fucked that it only gets 12
It shouldn't get 12 lol what
even with dragging brakes my rx7 did 17mpg
Even the original engine in my firebird could probably do better
I think that's about what my awd van gets lol
Its really annoying bc the 2wd version of the same van gets over 20
my car does 4.3L/100km
My 94 Fleetwood gets around 16
I have. Suspicions. But like I said, I'm not allowed to tinker with it so I can't 100% narrow it down. I'm thinking either a brake issue or torque converter
just buy a new car at that point lol
I bet you can find a Corolla on marketplace for a good price
I mean shit, my Corolla was $300
back in 2020 tho. Same vintage Corollas are going for about $1500 now
Aight, $2000 whatever-the-heck I guess is what I'm going with then. "There are many like it but this one is mine"
Yeah tbh I wouldn't be waiting until you get 9k for a Mustang, save enough to get a decent Corolla or Civic and ditch the Focus lol
Laughs in owning a German GM car
first listing I see on local Marketplace is a 02 Civic for $1k that might need a water pump
laughs in Spanish VAG
$700 Nissan Altima that needs a new engine, somehow not surprised
My caddy has needed some love but it's also 30 years old so
A.k.a the better VW
Always when people say Caddy, I think of the VW Caddy Van
200k+ on that 5.7l and it still has excellent compression
I like my 1.9tdi seat
Yeah I feel like getting a car that I know has problems so is selling for cheaper, and then fixing those problems to end up with a car that's worth more money bc I did the work myself would be the most fulfilling option I've got. It just sucks living in the rust belt because it makes used car buying a crapshoot. I'm thinking of joining my grandpa on a trip to florida to visit his family and buying something rust free down there and driving it back up here
AYO. Clean Grand Marquis for $1500

I mean, you can get lucky. I live in the rust belt too and I've found a lot of rust free 90s shitters.
They really named a car a seat?
My $300 corolla only has one bit of rot
SEAT is a brand yes
and my $1300 van had no rust and drove fine despite its 14 other issues
Part of VAG (like Audi and VW for you Americans)
SEAT S.A. (English: /ˈseɪɑːt/, Spanish: [ˈseat]; Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo lit. Spanish Touring Automobiles Company)
See this is why i like Colorado
But they're killing off the brand and making it a "mObIlItY sOlUtIoN"
L u c k y
Firebird is 44 years old but least rusted thing i have since its been in the state so long
who needs seats anyway
Okay new idea. early 90s LT1 Corvettes seem to go for about $2-3k where I live depending on condition. That worth looking into further?
Damn the amount of seats in those Seats
Your mpg won't improve much over your life support focus and you'll have to deal with 30 year old car issues
Understandable
I imagine it would be fun in a car that doesn't weigh two tons
C4s are great at being cheap projects, but they aren't particularly quick, and are plagued with 80s electronics
If you get an old gm car get at least new enough to have an ls
Personally I'd look for something with a 4 cylinder so you can get 25mpg+
Old Hondas and Toyotas get excellent gas mileage. Not sure how fixing Hondas goes, but Toyotas are pretty good to work on
Yeah I've considered Hondas but haven't looked into too much
The only Honda I've ever owned has been mid, so idk how the older ones are
probably way better than the newer ones
unless its a v6 auto
Well my old goldwing is still doing pretty well
my friends family has had an 02 Oddyssey since new and its on its 3rd or 4th transmission
pretty typical for them
But I like the early 2000s Accords from what I've seen of them
What the hell is an Odyssey
minivan
if you live in the US I am shocked you haven't seen at least 4 on the way to work
I love minivans
Fk no
the next shitbox I add to my collection will probably be another van
Minivan > CUV
I already own 2, no going back now
I don't like huge stuff

Driven our truck and my Cadillac too much
minivans are half the size of most trucks lmao
my vans look small next to a 2020 Tacoma
My Cadillac is longer than every parking space i put it in
lol
We had that problem with a 3er Wagon

ironic
Which
On the one hand i can't complain because god it's a beautiful car and rides so well
But damn its heavy and guzzles fuel
Previa
My dad was assigned a newer Chevy pickup truck as his work vehicle and it makes me wonder how people can judge anything sitting that high up off the ground.
ironically the red one is kinda broken rn
30k miles and can barely drive on the highway
Broken Toyota
no power
the O2 sensor might be fucked, not sure
German cars are good for looking at and using but not working on
hey the beige one has 230k miles, the diff begs for mercy, but it fucking runs and drives smooth as new

idk how the beige one has been so reliable tbh
it was a shitter when I bought it
but then again all the people that blow head gaskets in Previas are suffering from what's known as "Skill Issue"
or otherwise "User Error"
I still can't believe you don't own a Camry wagon
they are rare

same with Corolla wagons
I encountered a tercel wagon in the wild
there's some dude in a town near me that is hoarding all the Camry wagons
he has like 3 in his yard
I am jelly
I would be a shame... If something happened to him
but I don't think they ever made any awd Camry wagons
so tbh I'd rather go hunt for a Alltrac 5 speed sedan
rally build
no money

I mean, I still regret not waiting for a Corolla Hybrid
tbh the Insight is disappointing
the winter fuel economy is trash
laughs in European Corolla Hybrid Wagon
Yeah both 1.8 and 2.0
I might get the new Prius Prime in a few years thoo
we'll see
gotta fix my poor RX-7 and pay off the Honda
Might hang onto the Honda for a while too bc car payment + mortgage = not a fun time
Here, suffer
Reason why I'm hanging on to the mighty Corsa.. possibly buying a house in the near future
Rather have that money available 😜
Instead of wrapped up in a more expensive way to get stuck in traffic jams
Yeah. I had to drop my car payment back to the minimum bc it was just stretching too thin
paying it off 2 months early is not worth the immediate suffering
I am less disappointed in the summer tho
I got 72mpg on the way home from work

Since mid april I have only been filling it once a month
my shorter commute that avoids freeway is so much better for fuel economy, especially in the Honda
I'm not really that bother with fuel economy on my car as the fuel is 1/3 the price of petrol... But it does currently like 35MPG
But yeah that'd be over 100MPG for comparable costs on petrol
If I keep my Corolla long enough I kinda want to EV swap it for the meme
and bc itd be so cheap
And it really depends on usage, 1 week I fill it up 3 times, but the next fuel tank lasts me 3 weeks
cheaper than buying an EV, and a super cheap daily overall
I have hardly driven the vans this year due to fuel cost lol
both are sitting on empty with the fuel light on
I actually want to see how far the mighty Corsa can go ... And then I probably take a company car
Ev swap ur vans

Foesnt ford make a shitty ev van?
EV swapping the 2wd van would actually be really sick tbh
Or is that vw
No but like a really bad one with shit range
Here, the perfect one for @civic girder
Yes irs the vw one thats crap
The range is abt 45 miles
I mean we get parcels delivery here with electric Renault Masters, those have like a 80-90km range
Does the job
They also have electric Ford Transits now
Does Toyota make a small van? Ik they have the quantum but im in the market for a smaller van
E-Transit nowadays has up to 300km iirc which makes it way more usable
This is a small "Toyota" van
Depends on your market
Not electric tho
Electric cars are a bad idea here unless you have solar
1.2T petrol and 1.5 diesel
Honestly the diesel looks like a good option
Thx
I was thinking of getting that small vw van but i have very little to say about vw
And ford doesnt sell a small transit in my area
Which small Transit? They have multiple
The new Transit Connect is a VW Caddy iirc btw
If you want a small van, the Kangoo Open Sesame is also fun when it's available in your country
F for the caddy
