That can be the case I can ask him about it tomorrow not sure but maybe they are gone so the previous owner could fit a bigger air intake on it.
Maybe im wrong haven't asked him about it I just thought it hade since it has big FOGS button.
I remember that he got a box with stuff that has been removed or changed when he bought it.
There are these extremely strict rules on when it's legal to use haha
Which one is this?
695 I think?
Well the previous owner said that it went trough the inspection no problems last time.
I was talking about rules on using the foglights, not having them or not
Oh wait, that's different from just a "695" or "695c"
ah it says "bipisto" or something
so what is the main difference between the 595 and 695?
This is pretty cool
The 3 for sale here are literally all the 70th anniversary editon
Yeah I saw one with a very similer spec to that on that car meet.
I see it, haha
Or maybe that's the exact spec.
I think the 70th anniversary is just always like that?
Green ish
These used 595 Competiziones are very reasonably priced
Yeah and they hold their value very good to. I think they have started to go up a bit now since the new on will be electric for some stupid reason.
My brother has already duable the milage on his Abarth since last summer and he has gotten offer for a bit more then he payed for it. But he got a good deal in the first place to be fair.
It's probably a nice for an small EV but for a direct replacement of the current Abarth not sure about that. And if I remember correctly it's a lot more expensive to.
Well but it weights a lot more to so guess that it will not have as good of handling as the regular Abarth's and that's a big part why the Abarth's are so much fun to drive. I would probably just pick the regular 500e over the Abarth 500e and save some money.
Yeah the 500e Abarth will probably be fun to drive to but I don't think it will came close the ice versions of it. And no manual gearbox to that's something that fits that kind of car really nicely. The but Abarth 500e is a bit slower to since it weights so much more.
New gen GLC is really really nice
I still hate how big the bezels on the screens in all the mercs are
It looks like a 10 year old iPad glued to the center console and the instrument cluster is even worse
Yet they still can't fit my tall ass
Anyways, does anyone have a video of an N54 swapped Miata, or has no one done that yet?
cause i think that'd be hilarious
These are a lot better
Cluster is actually laminated tho
but can they fit me
cause i tried to sit in the back seat of a lyft and i had to literally slouch the entire ride
and it was a 2020 GLC
otherwise if i didnt slouch my head would hit the roof
Did these have the funky gearbox?
I think they had a sequential manual?
Or am I thinking of a different Fiat 500 variant?
(And correcting myself, since it was already posted, I'm thinking of the 695 Biposto.)
I really don't know how I feel about that racing dash placement...
@civic spoke was your car a takata car?
E46 320i
Did it have takata airbags?
Personally I still think a 2018 Lincoln black label looks nicer
Which one
Any of their cars can be a black label. Its just a trim level.
I like the continental
They stopped making cars though.
My grandpa has a black label continental
Of the last model year
Itd be nice if he got the long wheelbase one with the rolls royce style doors
But they made like 50 of those
Theyre also 116 thousand
Thats what he had before.
Nobody ever said, thought or considered it as a feeling in relation to a meriva
Or the Mazda MX 30 š
Noice does it have the front message seats
Probably
My grandma has a fully optioned ford explorer platinum with those seats. Theyre kinda ass.
Comes out to half the price of that lincoln
Yea I see them being ass
Yea if you getting anything ford you get a Lincoln because itās the better ford
My dad almost bought 2 roush made fords
I had to exsplain to him how the f150 wouldnāt be any faster and how much he would be paying for just a nicer ride
Wait until everyone figures out you can buy a Bugatti for $1500
This car from the future has a glass floor, floating seats, and is completely different on both sides! This is insane!
Although I kinda spent more than double that on a Segway gt2
It comes may 16
I bought it for fun
Interesting that it is not pillarless.
First asymmetrical car my ass
Someone needs to shut her up you canāt be that famous and make a false claim
I also donāt see anyone buying this unless they are rich enough to have a personal driver
Somehow, Autozone managed to fuck up so bad they sent a part that someone in Illinois ordered to my house here in California and the part my dad actually ordered to who knows where
How do they pull that off
I have no fucking idea
So you order a part in California and they mistake it for Illinois
Typical mad French concept that will never see the light of day.
And we needed that part today to get the Bronco II put back together because we have a Bronco II apart in our driveway needing a slave cylinder
that was the part he ordered
So, how do they plan to fix it?
She said the first asymmetrical car made like the lotus 11 want older than it
Bronco can me have the see
There have been numerous asymmetrical cars over the years.
And yes, all the old "two seater" race cars with aero bulges behind the driver would qualify.
I'm not really giving credence to the headline, it's clickbait.
Yea influencers should at least not act like itās the first of its type itās annoying
Omg 1400 horse power no way (thoes people are so annoying because you can have more fun with little hours power
Guaranteed I could have more fun riding a 250cc dirtbike
Well, also, it being a concept, I doubt it actually has 1400 HP.
Yea
Also why doe they always say the horse power is an even number
Because it doesnāt sound as good as say it has 1421 horsepower
My dad is ordering the part we needed in the first place from Napa
We're going to either send the part they sent us back to Autozone or sent it to the intended recipient in Illinois, dunno which
?
A picture
Ah
Ye
Nope
This is probably the 1 Bronco II that hasn't been rolled lmao
Lol
They have a tendency to roll
Ik
Ford's solution: A sticker on the driver side visor
Iāve driven my uncles he in California to
Lol
It runs good though. Sat in a barn for 8 years before my parents bought it from the guy that revived it. Reason we pulled the transmission is because leaking valve covers saturated the clutch in oil. We resealed the valve covers before we pulled it apart.
Was really sluggish going uphill
Thatās epic my uncle bought his after it got rolled so itās all nice and dented
Fun
Thats why we're doing a clutch on it
Noice although how is it driving in the hills in California
Them curvy roads
Pretty good, though I think the alignment is slightly off. If I have the wheel completely straight, it wants to pull to the right
I think people roll it because they get comfy with the car and they donāt think it would roll until it fdoes
hey, is there a rich guy here? who can fund my discord server a bit? please?
We're car owners
We have no money
It all goes into cars
Also I reprogrammed the remote windows back in
Hey now, I have other vices!
This is a chat for cars, not for poor bums to ask for funding for a discord. Why do you even NEED funding for a discord server? Those are free
If you want to fund something then fund my bmw
I need parts
The head gasket farded
BMW moment
M52TU moment
I also need to see if I have takatas or not
Shouldn't take very long to pop the airbag out
If you have the recalled ones, once you get them replaced, if they don't want the old ones, pop 'em
They will launch tires pretty far up
Possibly*
BMW drivers are urged to check if their vehicle is subject to an airbag recall, included as part of larger Takata airbag recall.
@wispy cloak
Mine is in the list of years affected but the vin says it isn't
But I figure that I'll take it out just to check
Yeah, better safe than sorry
79 bucks maybe? Please? if what i am trying works out then i'll pay you back. only if it works out tho?
I have no money
I have a lot of parts to buy
I need a head gasket kit, head stud kit, and possibly a timing kit
Does anyone know if itās a good recommendation to my friend to get a 2012 Honda civic hf (sheās no mechanically inclined)
Lmao 100% agree my bank account hates me
Discord is free I hate to break it to you
Sorry that i didn't clear it before, I need some money for a bot
Actually i really don'tlike the bot profile pictures
so I am tryin to develop most of my bots
Write a bot yourself just ask chat got to give you scripts
even making a model for moderation of my server using machine learning
but I initially used mee6
and it is really integrated into my server
and now i can't just dump it
plus some plugins that i has are beyond my capabilities, not gonna lie
thats why
Chat gpt your problems
uhh, actually if you try ityourself, then you'll know what the acttual problem i am facing
You can change bot pfps
chat gpt doesn't write the whole code, no?
yeah, but for that i must get premium
Me=Broke
Mow your neighbors yard
Sell some stuff
Yeah, We spend all our money on our cars
#off-topic was made for a reson
My car is my money
Kidney? Heard that it sells for quite some bucks
Lmoa
Sorry for the trouble guys, am new in this server
Bro watch the video on body parts to sell to buy a pc
Yeah, apparently selling some part of your liver can make you quite some money
Your good next time ask in #off-topic and if thereās a car community just assume they have all their money into cars
well okay
what car do you drive tho?
Honda Civic is my daily Iām about to buy anew Lexus real soon I got offer on my old house
Naw mate 2000 that would kill me
I think 200 at most
I like how you join a server just to ask "rich" people for money
I highly doubt the stock internals would be able to handle that
I bearly made it faster
crank or wheel?
Iād die
am sincerly sorry, ik that really makes me look bad
If I say crank woul you be mad
It's alright dude
Lol
so you'll be buying a lexus, huh?
Once I sell house
hmm, how much will you be selling it for tho?
Because 2 house payments aināt fun
hmm
Iām after 280 on the house
I need to start ordering parts for the bmw
In branson it was
LS 350
slick car
LFA is over hype
went a bit far with LFA, huh?
Yea and I have cousins
Iām not getting a 2 seater if Iām driving poeple around
will get back to it later
Oh, I remember seeing an LFA a few weeks back.
Try holding the reset trip button when turning on ignition
At least that worked on my old car
There's one in the display yeah
I think pressing the trip button 3 times short and then 4th time holding it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HV_aeB7jtEI
Yeah so turn on ignition, 4 buttons fast on the 4th hold for 15s

No reason I can think not to.
She should have it go to a mechanic for a checkup first.
Its one of my friends i dated i while back in 7-10th grade i just dont want her to be dissapointed if it like breaks down
and i dont live near her anymore
yea ive owned two civics
Those are rather rare.
Most decent private sellers will let you take it to a mechanic of your choosing.
If buying from a dealer, you can try...
But they'll do real sketchy shit, so I'd only buy certified pre-owned with a warranty people have had good experiences with.
yea it a pre owned not private dealer and i dont live near her anymore
Okay, well, she's an adult buying a car...
So she can find a mechanic she likes and ask to take the car there prior to purchase, no?
I don't see what you living near her has to do with her purchase process.
Itās her first car
And that changes best practices when buying a used car how?
I could be there to help her
She wouldnāt understand
The results?
Oh well I think it would be a good car
She can use a phone and send you what the independent mechanic comes up with, right?
Yea Iāll ask her to
When my then girlfriend, long since wife, went to buy her first car I had her take it to a mechanic.
She was in Delaware, the car was in Albany, NY, and I was in Michigan.
The mechanic looked it over for rust, electrical malfunctions, indications of oil leaks, any error codes, etc.
This is a normal best practice to prevent oneself from buying something in ill-repair that is going to require a lot of work.
Yea Iāll ask her to take it to a mechanic
Found out the clutch in my Ranger is actually fine, it was just the throw out bearing that seized and fucked the slave cylinder
Is the Bolt still the cheapest EV?
Yeah
I prefer the sound over a BMW 6 cylinder over an electric motor though
And a Porsche 6 cylinder
I prefer the sound of EVs.
And a Ferrari 12 cylinder
So much less noise.
Mate
You've obv never heard what a novitec 812 sounds like
Exhausts with good tone > loud exhausts
But the novitec has both
No exhaust and no explosions > exhaust and explosions
I don't understand
Because I like cars that have normal engines
An internal combustion engine (ICE or IC engine) is a heat engine in which the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. In an internal combustion engine, the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion applie...
I've never heard a car that I liked the sound of until I heard a hybrid in EV mode.
You just haven't found the right engine then
Including porches and the like.
American muscle v8s are just the way to go
Like chargers, mustangs, GTs, etc.?
yes
They all sound worse than the quiet hum of electric.
No.
Just a quick exhaust idle and rev video.

Very nice idle
yeah just trying to determine whether i should keep a stock or go Borla like that guy did
EVs sound better, have better torque, respond faster, more efficient and can do really cool stuff with the motors that ICE just can't.
bought it for 11 grand, thing is a rustbucket that needs completely rebuilt body wise, the engine/transmission however were rebuilt before it sat for 10 years so it just needs a flush and repaint
Nah you're actually trolling. EVs don't even make a sound
They do.
That torque thing is wrong
If you're talking about gasoline, sure
a ram truck has nearly double the torque of something like a cybertruck
I wonder if modding EV motors is a thing
The cybertruck is a joke.
Like how people add power to an ICE
It is, but it's about using them in other cars for conversions.
you can mod them all you want, just not on most of the mainstream companies because of software locks
Software locks š
Yeah that sucks, but you can do that with ICE too.
yeah the car just bricks if you mod it past a certain point
I hope I can get a Bolt.
Hey, cheap, EV, Comma works with it.
(its a chevy, ugly and has worse range)
I don't need much Range.
Also I wouldn't buy a Tesla even if I could afford it.
I'd get a EV6 or something.
how is it 50 grand with 310 mile range
I dunno, but that's better than the Bolt.
A car I can always recommend to someone on a budget is Toyota/Lexus
As you know, they are quite reliable and low maintenance
Yeah fair.
that mf said he prefers the noise of an ev over a 6.2 hemi š
the world is ending before our eyes
mf doesn't even like the sound of a 6.0 roaring through a forest
the blow off valve after a big turbo 6.7 cummins burnout
blower surge on a 350
I've always been weird.
I've always preferred things quieter. The sound system on the car I have access to goes up to 80, I only turn it up to 12 or 20 on aux because that's super quiet for no apparent reason.
CRTs give me headaches from the buzzing of the electron gun coils.
yeah, I'll make sure to make my car as load as I legally can while I still can
right now I just got a stock A4 1.8TQ (2003 model) though, but with some work it can be a nice car, especially considering what you pay
Yeah but I guess used Tesla's has gone down a lot in price after the recent price drops.
idk, feel like Tesla is very hit or miss, some people love them, some people hate them
most of the people I know that has them are happy with them
It's not just torque the thing with ev's is that they all there power avaible instantly which make them feel way faster then as equivalent fossil car. In terms av acceleration.
Software/ecu locks is something that is used on newer fossil cars to prevent tuning them.
Nope i don't but I have nothing against ev's at all.
Yup here in Sweden they have done survey and 88% of the Tesla owners would buy one again so they seem happy with their cars.
yeah, you shouldn't, at least not for reasons like "oh it doesn't make sound" š Personally I find them boring, and I find excitement in proper engine sound, but EV would still be preferred in some scenarios
that's a lot, considering most people who actually answer this type of thing are people who has something to complain about
I can get around that, with electrics like tesla its an absolute pain in the ass
Not my point
It depends on what you compare to them like An id7 will most likely be more fun to drive then you regular Passat. But for a sports car an ice car would be way more fun to drive right now compared to ev sports car.
not really much point in "proper engine noise" when you can barely hear the engine though, so I meant engines that make noise, such as sports cars
I drove a Model 3 for a couple weeks, I liked it, was a nice car to drive, maybe even a little fun with the acceleration
but it's still nothing like driving the 3.0 TDI A4 I had before I had to let it go
even though my 3.0 TDI didn't have particularly insane sounds
the only excitement i've ever felt from an EV is how fast it accelerates
it can be replicated with combustion engines
Your average EV is leaps beyond your average ICE in terms of acceleration.
yeah after you spend 40 grand on one
That's sadly the problem.
The price of entry into EV is so much higher.
ICE will always be cheaper
I believe this also.
bigger industry for it for one and the fact that it doesn't require making a complex electric motor and the required systems for it
ICE you can just throw axles, an engine and a transmission together
EV will never become super affordable, due to how expensive the core components are.
EV's dont need transmissions, diffs or driveshafts
the labor required is more and the components required are harder to acquire
Most EV's have a differential and drive shafts.
If they just have a single motor, then they require something to split the power.
Hybrids are more practical than anything
batteries are the main problem with EVs as far as I've understood
yep
its cause we're still trying to find a method to mass produce aluminum graphene batteries
Lots of nasty work required to obtain it.
they're doing it for phones now but they still need to advance it enough for cars
3x the capacity and 10x the charging rate
If porsche manages to figure out their eco-fuel there's gonna be no point for EVs until we have aluminum graphene batteries
even then, hybrids will be a huge competitor
We don't really need higher charging rate or capacity for your average EV's. Honestly.
At least not for daily drivers.
the batteries are also lighter
If you're doing 200 km's a day, then you can easily replenish that with a slow charge overnight.
lithium is hard to mine and costly at that
But that's the problem, takes a long time to charge that slowly.
But we need more infrastructure for slow charging.
Cheap, available, slow chargers.
it charges slow, weighs a ton, is very flammable, hard to excavate it/refine it, can't be recycled and has an inferior capacity
Hell. I would be able to live with <100 km range if I had the ability to charge on the daily.
no need if you have a car that has a 1500 km range
but one of the main points is to move away from oil as much as possible - but the only way that will ever happen in reality is if it's actually cheaper. At the end of the day, we only give a f if it's cheaper.
Just like there are probably just a insignificant amount of people who bought EVs to protect environment. Rest of us bought it to save money, couldn't give two fs about the environment lol
the day it becomes cheaper is the day we dont have oil
oh we will have oil still, but perhaps not for fuel
hybrids also have double the gas mileage of a typical car, so its good for the environment and for your wallet
but before this can be rolled out globally, we need to make progress with our infrastructure and technology of electricity and power grids
advocating for more EVs right now is just worsening the environment because of what lithium excavation does
1,500 km's is honestly more than anyone needs from a normal car.
That would mean that you had a 100 liter tank or something like that. And most manufacturers would cut the size to half that to save on space and weight.
it's better to advance the battery tech and use that instead of lithium
PHEV would be great, tbh
But even with a PHEV, then you would ideally want to plug it in on the daily.
but at the same time, you need the marked to shift towards EVs still, otherwise the funding will shift towards some other tech, because that's how you make money
EV companies are not the major companies developing aluminum graphene
aluminum graphene as a battery is good for everything
yeah, that's fair, but still
its safer, 3x the capacity, 10x the charging rate and it weighs less
car industry will still need to be on EVs, otherwise they will have shifted towards something else, and we'll never get back to EVs
Sucks that battery technology is basically stone age compared to everything they power.
yeah
battery tech isn't stone age
it's very advanced
its just crippled by lithium
look at first gen lithium batteries and now
it was probably more of a figure of speech tbf š
but battery tech needs to advance, otherwise there is probably no future for EVs
diesel engines are something that should always stay
When you compare how much batteries have advanced compared to the technology surrounding them, then batteries are a joke.
biodiesel absorbs more carbon than it emits
look at a electric motor from 1940 and one from today
not much difference
That's also true. The core is similar.
But what I mean is if you look at your phone, for example.
A big reason why batteries lasted longer for phones wasn't always that battery tech improved.
It was more so because the phones itself became more efficient.
idk, it depends on the technological advancements and what's more sensible
biodiesel existing as a fuel makes diesel engines relevant
I just bought a new engine today after blowing a whole in the piston of my old one. I can't wait to bring my bby back
Diesel will stick around for many, many years so come.
Since we're so relying on it so much for moving products.
Not to mention freight ships.
what we should be looking more into is our mentality about money/materialism (on a global scale I mean), so not the cheapest alternative wins, but the best alternative that's sustainable, both financially and environmentally etc. This applies to everything we do though, not only cars
the consumerism we practice now is absolutely madness tbh
So you're saying that I shouldn't take 108 month loan on a brand new Mitsubishi Mirage?
But honestly.
Modern cars are able to last for such a long time now.
What about wood gas cars? Obviously everyone wouldn't be able to keep up with maintenance but for people capable of being independent I would rather steer that direction then electric
dont take out a loan for a car at all id say
Covid had cars spike up in price for a bit but I see running square body's for 2k all the tins
I will try to use gasoline cars for as long as possible, until I switch over to PHEV/EV.
That just needs to be mass produced so that it becomes affordable enough.
U can produce it at Home
At what kind of quantities?
There are book for welding one up urself
Enough to heat ur house and produce Enough gas for a car
It depends how much wood u can burn and how many tank u have to store the gas
Obviously heavy modification required but possible none the less
Okay, but if I'm burning wood to get gas.
Then it defeats it from an environmental standpoint.
This project and video were created as a response to many of the comments that I received from my last DIY gasifier video. I realized that I had taken my ample tool selection for granted and decided that I would make an effort to bring substantial woodgas generators down to a level where they can be build for less than $100 in tools alone. No we...
ull be fine
That's basically what I just said for you regular car i don't se the point with an having an "regular" ice over an ev if you can afford an ev. But for a sports car there is a different story ev is just to heavy for that at the moment and no gear shifts and sounds doesn't make it as exciting as an ice car.
Yeah list price wise but in total cost of ownership on a ev will mostly always be cheaper if you compare an equivalent Ice car compared to an ev. But the ev prices is going down quite fast now at least Tesla's and they are the company that sells most of the ev's world wide.
yeah thats mainly because of companies producing out Crap designs
Price of ownership with EV's goes down FAST compared to ICE.
Well it mostly the battery that is expensive now the rest isn't that much more expensive then what it on gas car.
out of 200,000 miles i've only ever had to do gasket changes on my jeeps 4.0 i6
200,000 miles would mean at least 40~50 oil changes.
Something you wouldn't have to deal with for an EV.
It's not like a Tesla model 3 is 3x more expensive the an BMW 3 series the Tesla is most likely cheaper then BMW 3 series with the same equipment and equivalent amount of power.
oil is cheap
yeah, what I was getting at is that it was kinda given from the message you replied to that I meant sports-like engine etc ^^
how are u urself gonna be able to repair a battery withought buying a new one\
you're ignoring used prices and the fact that i can buy a car in perfect working condition for $4,000
What's cheaper?
Something that's cheap.
Or something you don't have to deal with?
that idk about, probably doesn't start with us, probably starts with huge corporations
and government regulations
global agreements etc
EVs cannot be maintained by the average person, upfront cost will always be more than ICE
? ur car still has bearing, a frame, a differential, suff that moves its not like its not gonna have matnince
depends on the EV ^
its juts gonna be hella expensive for u know
Most people can not, and does not maintain their own vehicles, tho.

Why would you ever take a 9 year loan?
that's just a bad idea
EVs are generally way cheaper to maintain, depending on which one you get ofc, but if done right, there are a lot less things to maintain
you can maintain an ICE car with 10 minutes of youtube research
you cannot do that with an EV
not necessarily correct, either of those statements
the only stuff you're doing yourself maintaining an EV is the stuff it shares with an ICE
brake pads, fluids, oil
Well if you can charge it overnight it doesn't matter if it takes 30mins or 8 hours it will be done before you are ready anyways for the next day.
probably yeah, but realistically though, how many car owners actually maintain their own vehicles? you can barely do any maintenance on newer vehicles without needing specialized equipment/tools
Why are you referencing newer vehicles
used vehicles dont fall off the face of the earth
most people I know want to never have to turn a screw in their car, and just let the shop do it for them
Yupp.
And slower chargers is generally better for the grid. Since it's less strain on it.
because sooner or later these newer vehicles will be what 20-30+ year old vehicles are to us today
our grid shouldn't be needing to worry about that kind of strain (our entire electric grid is completely outdated)
yeah and i can still go buy a car from the 70s, 80s or 90s and use it
the day they stop working is when the engine block cracks or the frame turns to dust
you can, but spare parts will eventually be a huge issue, and the average person does not do this
point is the entire industry keeps moving away from us doing our own maintenance
What I mean is that if you want to charge 50 vehicles at once, then the current grid is able to do that albeit slowly.
With DC fast charging. Then you'd just be able to charge 5 of them.
by that point we're not gonna be using personally owned vehicles to the point where it matters anymore
maybe
Fast charging makes sense where you want to rotate the vehicles quickly.
Get them in, charged, and out quickly.
as said before the only stuff i really needed to change was gaskets and oil
spark plugs
none of those are needed to change at all on an EV
it'd still be able to charge all of them in the same amount of time
Not really a modern diesel consumes less then hybrid since the hybrid need to carry way more weight then regular ice car.
You may think that those are easy to change. But your average consumer doesn't know the difference between different oils. And why you couldn't just use any old oil.
I just don't see the point of "you can't maintain your own EV, but you can maintain your won ICE" tbh, it's not really a good point considering how insignificant the amount of people who self-maintain their cars are, compared to the amount of people who don't
most diesels are like 25mpg, i can find hybrids from 2000 with 50mpg
they just need to be put in a situation where a shitty car is all they got. Then learning how to fix it comes east beucaues u actually have to
Hell. I've heard a story about a customer who wanted their oil changed and topped off.
And then they came back saying "It wasn't full of oil! So I added a bunch of quarts so that it was topped off"
They later ended up with a broken engine.
because when money matters you will maintain it yourself
time = money, maintenance = time
Most people don't even need more then 500km of real world range. It's a good thing to take brake after driving for that long anyway and then you can just charge it for like 30mins and then continue on your trip.
most people don't have time to maintain their own personal vehicle
especially if they also have to learn it too
the amount of tools etc you need that you probably don't have also isn't particularly cheap
Not to mention that they don't have the space to maintain it.
it takes half a day to do most minor repairs and if u pick a car like a ford they make haynes manuals which is a step by step guide on how to diagnose and maintaine ur car
you can find decent kits for $50-150
yeah
if you can park the damn car you have the space
anything that would require more than that would warrant the mechanic (pulling an engine out)
u can rent them and take them back at most places
I'm literally not even allowed to wash my car on my street. (:
also buying tools is a good thing
still way too much time for the average person
na
only if you intend to use it
yeah i can buy a decent kit for like $50, at most $150
go to a pawn shop
not when you depend on that method of transportation
get mine for cheap af
if you need it, you will find a way
hell yes!
Basically. I did it once, nagged at me "You're polluting! All dirt and oils get washed away!"
with the right car that maintenance will also take no longer than two hours
wtf you mean na? majority of people I know don't want to do it themselves, I even know people who know how to do this stuff, but still don't care to do it themselves, because it takes too much time
lmfao okay
lol
yeah i wouldn't give af unless the EPA showed up on my door for using harmful chemicals to clean it
Ohh boy. You all are going to be mad at me. Next week I have a service time for my E46.
if people wanna complain about pollution go yell at the air force for polluting hawaiian groundwater with jetfuel
depends what kind of soap etc you use though
yeah it does but people also talk about the stuff that accumulates on the car
Could I technically do all of the shit needed done to my own car? Yeah, sure.
But paying someone to do it for me means that I can earn money while doing so.
which shouldn't really matter cause it was gonna find its way off the car one way or another
that's a bit too over towards the extreme
yeah exactly
people complain about you just washing your car to find something to do with their miserable lives
that's like telling people who breath twice as much as someone else they pollute too much by breathing unnecessarily
and are people making $15 an hour in the same position as you? can they afford to spend 4 hours of their wage per hour to have someone do the work they could have done?
I normally just wash my car at the local gas station that has a do-it-yaself wash. Along with a car lift.
mechanics typically are paid upwards of $60 an hour
if you can do the maintenance yourself in the same time and your job pays you less than the mechanics get paid, it's worth it to do it yourself
not here, $20-30/hr usually
well if ur in that position work on ur own car on ur own time
still good wage
If I were able to, then I would totally work on my own car.
But I'm not in that kind of a position.
personally though, I've tried to maintain my own car using YouTube, and man is it a bumpy ride lol, so many small things can go wrong that's just so annoying
its fun in my opinion
And honestly? Most people aren't in a position where they are able to work on their own vehicles.
i belive they can work there way up there
I agree, as long as you don't depend on the damn thing working next morning, then it's just stressful
literally the only requirement to work on your own vehicle is a $50-150 toolset
and time, but why would you work on weekends?
imagine laying under your car in your drive way during winter, trying to replace your broken gearbox
at most u need 400$ worht of tools to do everything u need to ur car all the way down to disassembling it to the writs pins
yeah, when else are you gonna party with all your friends!?
Or any time of the year.
only takes 4 hours, somtimes u gotta do stuff u dont like
well, sure, but especially the winter š
my fuel pump went out when it was coverd in ice but i managed
What happens when you have to replace something that you didn't think needed replacing?
And your vehicle is up on jack stands?
build a cousion of money for emergencys
the only way i wouldn't work on my car myself is if i was physically incapable of doing it
same thing the mechanic would do?
that does suck though ongod
order the part
no, it doesn't, I tried to change the wheel hub on my A4 B8, and it took me a full day to do so, and it was such a headache to get it done
your local mechanic doesn't have a magic warehouse where he can grab any part he wants at any time
had to use blowtorch and everything, even manage to ruin a couple bolts, so had to cut them off
many of them have next day delivery, at least here
Oh, but here I thought you were in the camp of doing everything yourself!
Why pay someone to deliver it to you when you can just get it yourself!
well if ur know what ur doing ahead of time a trammision espicially in a truck should only take 4 hours
or suv
but I agree, parts shouldn't be the main problem of maintaining your own car
since when does order mean order it to get delivered?
autozone next day delevery!
I knew what to do ahead of time, and it's not the first time I've done things like it either
thats next dayt
Okay. So how are you obtaining this part that you ordered?
Are you going to drive there when your vehicle is inoperable?
it was just so god damn stuck, and so god damn tight, could barely fit tools where I needed to
walk there, or get it delivered
My entire point was that its cheaper to do it yourself
(deliveries are often free or are very low cost)
not necessarily an option lol
thats fair
been there with a water pump
yeah
But my whole point is just that the vast majority of people are not capable of working on their own vehicles, nor do they want to.
also imagine buying a Europe car, and tools to maintain it, next time you buy an American car, but don't realize "oh, I need inch-based tools now, not mm
"
and you realized that by ruining some bolt or something
the one time i had to deal with that was cause the stinkin guy who welded it decides to improperly do it, so i had to hammer at it for 3 hours to get the bolts to go in for the differential
omg ur gonna love ford
Ev is bettery is split in different cells i think a Tesla battery has 8 and in most cases it's just one or two that goes bad and then you can just change those without replacing the whole battery pack.
cause half of there bots are metric!
my gf has one, Ford Fiesta
i hate that car my mom has one. just an ugly small car but it is fast
I bought an Audi A4 2003 mod though, I prefer older cars so I can maintain them myself
older ones generally need less maintaining too
jsut dont buy a piece of crap
1999-2001 jeep cherokees are peak jeep
well, you just replace the parts that wears out, and you should be good to go
just don't treat it like shit and it'll probably last a very long time
pre 90's fords are my favorite
I prefer older cars simply because they have everything you need. Without the extras.
it's a lot easier to do things to them, because a lot less electronics
if it's one thing that's annoying to mess with on cars, it's electronics related issues
some issues are okay, others can be a real nightmare
they are more unreliable though
I have some kind of electronics issue with my E46 :c
stall alot more often
Disables my ABS, Stability control, and traction control.
average BMW
did you try to read the error codes?
that's at least one upside of electronical errors, it usually has some error code
not always really the actual cause of the issues though š
Those I have taken it to tells me that I have to replace the module for it, that it has to be refurbed or something.
which module?
also while on the topic about self-maintaining shit, people don't even self-maintain their electronics... laptops, desktops, etc are so easy to maintain, especially with how easily you can Google your issues... yet you rather take it back to the store and pay them to fix it for you
the only electronics i will refuse to self maintain are circuit board related fixes to a handheld device and in general, my phone
on something like a steam deck/switch the most i'll do is fix exterior parts/joysticks etc
second it relates to something on the circuit board its off to the repair guy
I refuse to maintain anything where parts aren't easy to source, or devices are hard to open, or issue is related to bad circuits
i have complete capability to do so and have the equipment, i'd just rather not fuck it up
Yeah if you can charge at home during night you will never need worry about it just plug it in when you come home and most modern chargers has an app so you can set it to only charge off peak hours which is generally very cheap to. My dads friend only supercharged his previous model 3 just 15 times in almost 3 years of ownership and 90000km. Fast charging is just a thing that you generally uses on longer drives and not daily.
also I'm fortunate enough to live in a country where you have 3 or 5 year warranty by law, (3 or 5 years depending on the type of device)
I can charge at work for free
I don't have an EV though
only ev i'd ever own is the cybertruck
purely because it looks like a brick
and its exposed metal
that's cool
they aren't legal in Norway, so won't ever be able to own one
if I had to buy something right now, it'd probably be a Model 3
you get a lot of car for the price
Not true our Passat average consumption is 4,8-5,2/100km that's like 45-50mpg.
and the charger network is just next level in comparison to anything else
but idk how long that's true for though
but also the infotainment system etc, is so much better in Tesla than for example Audi
is there a diesel one?
i cant see it
it automatically brought up the 2013 model thats what i typed the stat for
that's nothing š® my 1.8T is like 12-15/100km
here in america the highest you will typically see a diesel vehicle get is 40mpg
most of the time its somewhere around 19-30mpg
trucks are always below 25
Well in the apartment where my brother lives they are not allowed to service the cars in their garage so that's not true either and you if need to park your car on the side of the road is not that optimal to do an oil change there either.
how is it not optimal
its an oil pan and a wrench
if there is ground there is the capability do to an oil change
as for restricting service in a garage, Why?
like seriously whats the point
in your countries you fine people to deter people from damaging things/committing crimes, doing the same for someone improperly servicing a car and spilling something would do the same
Yeah on my drivers test there was if you where allowed to clean you car on the side of the road or not. And the correct answer is no.
same thing here, just not enforced. EPA will fine you to sam hell for spilling harmful chemicals
the only reason i'd see that as an issue would be for safety
Yeah the model 3 is like les then ā¬35k in Norway right ?
Well most Tesla chargers is open to every brand in Europe now but if you own a Tesla you get lower prices on Tesla chargers.
Speaking of Ford, we have this one at work
I wouldnāt want the cheapest one, Iād probably get long range or performance, so roughly 50k iirc
Yeah, but not every car can use them yet can they? Either way itāll be less and less of an argument
But the software in tesla is still far superior as far as Iāve seen/heard
Lmfao, that wasnāt on mine thankfully
Cheapest one is still plenty good for your daily needs.
But I understand the people wanting the longer range versions or the AWD.
nozemi lives in norway so awd is needed
AWD is usually just a nice-to-have. But it sure can be nice for winter climates.
Winter tires is where it's at.
Oh yeah, for sure, I just donāt want to compromise too much š
Idk about that, not sure how many FWDs we have, but a shit ton haha, but they always get stuck etc
fwd is just so crap
All ev's with a CSS port can use them and nearly all V2 and V3 Tesla chargers are open for public now in EuropƩ.
its used because its cheaper to produce and has better mileage
FWD has a place because of that.
But the same reason why it's good, makes it less desirable to me.
No need for a long drive shaft going from the front to the rear and all of that.
pulling off a great FWD hot hatch has been widely reviewed as one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable driving experiences
call it all shit is a bit too absolute
FWD can be super fun to toss around.
that makes no sense
Going at speed wouldn't be any difference between any of the drive trains.
its inherently more unstable compared to rwd/awd because it does not turn well at high speed
steering
steering and engine power
the engine is also over it
if anything FWD are inherently more stable at speed
there will never be a situation where the driven rearwheels want to overtake the steering front wheels
so saying you dont trust fwd for going at speed is pretty idiotic
fwd oversteers
FWD understeers, if anything.
it needs to handle braking, engine power, and steering all in the same wheel
What?
yeah oversteering is enjoyable if kept in balance of course but its not more stable
Or are you thinking about snap oversteer?
i have braindamage mixed it up
dw happens to the best of us
But yeah. Understeer is generally what your want for your average driver.
its a very linear, predictable loss of adhesion
it feels like shit but its very safe
i wasnt putting my point across correctly
in an average car fwd is fine when you're speeding
You recover from it simply by letting off the accelerator.
but if you're in anything with a good amount of engine power it is not good for highspeed
tbh. FWD hot hatches are some of the most fun that you can have.
Simply because of driving at, or close to the limit is easier.
I think so too, but Im not a motoring journalist
the back of the car will fling out, which normally is prevented because the weight of the engine lies on the steering and traction wheels, but it's bad when you start losing the traction
define good amount o fengine power
anything with high torque
numbers dawg
Define high torque?
I consider 200 hp to be close to the limit of what you want for a FWD car.
disagreed
400lbft or more
my firebird is 360hp 500lb ft
i do not want fwd in a car with that much torque
Some of the more powerful FWD cars are what? in the 300 hp range?
True.
Id consider that quite the limit
> Lb Ft
Then again, tire tech have come quite a ways since when around 200 hp was the sweet spot for FWD.
the only place in europe where the argument would matter is germany
so im using lb ft
everything else cars aren't going fast enough for it to matter
Germany = Europe confirmed
referring to speed limits
i originally brought up lb ft as a unit of measurement
There are runways and race tracks in just about any country.
I have a whopping 85 pounds the size of a foot in my FWD car
dawg most of europe has speed limits around the same of the US
its all around the max 130kmh region
80% of German highways also have limits lol
and if you are speeding anyways, who cares
I forget what my car has. But it's around 170 hp (125 kW) and around 210 Nm? I believe?
Lets find out
86hp/115Nm or 83hp/110Nm depending on the fuel
im not sure if mine is actually the measurement i typed
Yeah, I was right. Those are the numbers.
its either that or higher
63 or 61kW
when it was rebuilt it was changed to a full forged rotating assembly, not sure if it was changed past that cause i haven't looked at it in a while
i know heads were changed
It's not just not allowed i guess that they want to have then garage as clean as possible which I can understand.
Would have been fun to have the M54B30 engine with a supercharger thrown at it.
Me spilling a bunch of oil in the garage would make me loved in the neighborhood.
it just stains concrete
it can be cleaned up pretty easily it just makes a huge dark spot
doesn't really matter here in america cause everything looks like crap
unless you live in a pesky HOA
imagine having concrete floors.
I mean, same?
so your driveway isn't concrete?
Even the long range is less then ā¬40k in Norway and I think the Performance is like ā¬45k
Concrete driveways aren't much of a thing here in Sweden.
so it made of tarmac?
Yessir
AWD isn't necessary good as long as you have good winter tires but it's nice to have for that extra comfort and "safety"
AWD gives you a false sense of security.
awd just makes it easier for the average hooligan to not spin out and crash
literally couldnt be me
if you know how to drive then yeah not needed
SWEDEN
JAG VILL DO
thats all I got
my friend did engine swaps in a public car park heh
What'chu on about, foo?
||Ja, jag vill leva. Jag vill dƶ i Norden!||
lmao
im spoiled with a 4 post lift now
the average american car guy will do that in a walmart parking lot
lucky
I would love that so much.
im not norwegian
I pay for the priveledge
me love sweden sweden very nice youtubers, balls, furanture and my car
I do too, but at higher prices.
Since if I want to use one, then I have to rent one from the local gas station.
oh also best immigrants in sweden
I pay £80/m for my unit as its shared across a few friends
Yeah my brothers Abarth 595 is a lot of fun to drive and it's FWD so I don't se the problem with FWD.
Car parking yard space aswell included in that
That's a fair price. At least if you're able to share a lift.
most intellectuals (europeans) dont
ngl norway is exceptionally pretty

sadly we are all messy hoarders. heh
This is the kind of lift that I have access to.
my lift are the two metal ramps and jacks i have
My brother company has 500HP+ GOLF GTI and it still handles great even with that much power.
A big problem with renting a lift, though. Is that you're not able to park your car there over the weekend.
thats when you get a sledgehammer and put a hole in the ground through the middle
I've seen people build scaffolding in the ditch to be used for oil services, etc.
when swapping engines in cars we just hang them off the end of the 4 post
sure but thats probably because you werent using all of the 500hp whilest on the adhesion limit š
I want LSD.
there are so many variables theres no point really in excluding an entire drive train
fwd is fun for getting a extreme angle and being able to floor it out of it
but rwd is funner
I rather head-first into whatever I'm crashing into.
Id rather not crash
i like being able to control my car and stay on the road instead of having to accelerate off the road to get control again
Better crumple zones, air bags and all of that.
volvo gang
Yeah the landscape in Norway is extremely beautiful specially the northern parts.
safety is important
laughs in no ABS/TC/DSC
and leaf springs, presumably š
I feel bad for the other E46 in my garage.
so its thread on your tires
What vibration in the tires?
average car from the rust belt
my mother rammed a little prius at 20mph with a jeep bullbar and crumpled the entire ladies car because she slammed on the brakes
the jeep did not have abs it seems
70mph roundabout approach + oil spill
sadge
"suhhh dude nice stance
"
stance drivers trying not to wreck their tires (impossible)
or ride
you're not even using like
95% of the tire using stance
its just like a 2 inch strip
wtf is the point
it looks cringe too
stance
True stance
i hate it when it happens to brz
looks like someone spooked it
De-ICE?
flintstone spec
awd is a bit "random", depends where the force pulls you when your car loses grip š
it's fun to drift an awd though, but sometimes it's difficult to stay in control, because it suddenly decides to just go straight forward lol
very unfortunate when you're sideways in a turn and straight forward is out of the road
AWD depends a bit if it's FWD or RWD based. And how it's programmed.
hell yeah, it's amazing, was there last summer - let me see if I can send a pic š
oh yeah for sure
Most cars are honestly just tweaked for understeer.
Since it's better for your average consumer.
that also massively depends what kind of AWD system it is, there are so many variables, you can't compare entire drive train groups together
my A4 3.0 TDI was easy enough to drift, but the automatic transmission was a bit annoying
oh yeah, for sure, I just kinda assumed we all were aware that there are many different configurations to AWDs š
thats a brave assumption but I like your optimism š
heheh I know, not all of the people in the channel would probably know, but think all of us present in the conversation does at least
also, I'm no expert myself, which also probably played a part
its technically massively interesting for sure, but yeah, so many different brands of awd systems made for different situations, I don't know too much about them either
@tardy harbor @brittle totem here are some pics š (panoramas actually)
idk if Discord ruined the quality or not though
is that norway?
I just know that Quattro isn't necessarily the same as another Quattro š
you can open original
it is
nice, that doesnt look like a place where I have been
I didn't really like the A4 Avant TDI that my father used to have. The AWD system was meh for me.
I've visited 3 times, but that looks rather south
this is very north
And didn't really like not being able to control the gears properly. Along with the lower rev limiter from it being a diesel :c
which year and engine?
Uhh, I believe it was the 2.0 TDI engine with 170 hp. The year was... Let me find out.
oh okay, I think the most northen I got was where its officially artic circle
I had two of those, 2007 models, both manuals
2012ā2015 The facelift model. I know that at least.
yeah, that's not too far north, this was Sortland, which is still far out from the northmost point
also I think a big, heavy diesel usually over the front of the front axel has a poor effect on whatever that awd can deliver
wtf no ive been there, I recognize the name š
ahh okay, no clue about those, but presumably it was automat? with automat you'll probably need way more than 170hp to be able to enjoy it much ngl
need to get back my fucking Alzheimer is kicking in
Yeah, it was an automatic.
Yessir.
nice š one of the photos is shot towards Lofoten which is a very common place for tourists
yeah, my 3.0 TDI was also automatic, but roughly 300hp, so it made things a lot easier lol
also fairly sure it was configured more to be rwd than fwd
I guess it was this engine?
they made a lot of 1.9tdis
so its hard to find out exactly
I mean this is bored to 2.0 but around that range theres hundreds
2 many pictures 4 discord
server cant hang
probably more interesting to know the awd config on it, which probably depends on the model (which is B8.5) than the engine
The B8.5 wasn't bad looking at all, honestly.
Too bad that I didn't enjoy driving it.
yeah, mine was B8, I wanted to do a B8.5 swap - replace the bumper, headlights, steeringwheel, etc
retrofit facelift look
I wanted a bicycle...
@ornate viper
Yeah I was there last summer on a roadtrip and I can defently recommend that.
the trollen pass
rofl, didn't have sound on though (at work rn)
where is this?
its called the trollen pass or something like that, amazing piece of road
at least it looks a lot like that
ahh, okay "Trollstigen" in Norwegian, probably
that's more western Norway than northern though
Parts of Sweden can be nice, also.
yes, where they make volvos
The further north you get, the more mountainous it becomes, usually.
mostly the north sea where they get all that sweet sweet oil money from
not in this country
its as flat is my wife
thanks for assuming I have multiple
oh no, just assume you will find a new one, or have had others in the past, and it was also the plural version of "you", as in this entire chat š
afaik it's illegal to have more than one wife in Sweden
