Why can’t you replace the shocks yourself?
It’s easy as hell.

tired sundial
# wispy cloak Those are springs

If you were near my location I would let you go through both of my cars you’ll find out they are and always will be 99% safe if I’m driving it

wispy cloak

Shocks and springs aren't one assembly on trucks

#

At least in the rear

wispy cloak
#

If you aren't replacing the whole assembly

fathom socket
#

True
But just the shocks I’m talking about
Did that on my 08 civic when I was 15 myself

wispy cloak
#

I did all the shocks on my truck without a jack though because I have leaf springs on all four corners

#

Two bolts per shock

#

On a strut you have to take the strut out, rent (or buy) a spring compressor, and disassemble the strut

fathom socket
#

I’m just trying to figure out the logic here
Dude says “woman maintenance bad” and claims to do his own maintenance, but want to pay someone else to do shocks

Modern cars are so stupid sometimes

#

Like you can’t even check your own transmission fluid since “that’s a job for the dealership”

#

(The sorento we have is low on transmission fluid I think, it kinda had some difficulty shifting gears, but it is at like 48k miles)

#

I believe they say about 50k miles is when you should check transmission fluid in the Kia sorento

did it blow the cooling system at all or is the rad still ok?

It would probably drive alright but the radiators were rubbing on the belts so decided it was best to just tow it back

Rad still held coolant amazingly despite being bent like a banana. A/C condenser was mullered

Aye, was a pretty big hit. Luckily it didn’t trip the airbags as that’d be a much bigger repair.

The one saving grace is it needed to go to Hyundai for new front parking sensors and a drivers headlight (common i30 issue where it lets water in), all under warranty

At least it’ll get repaired now 😂

I'm deciding whether or not to put an exorbitant amount of effort into putting the cheapest Corvette I've ever seen back on the road

#

$1500, '85 Vette w/ 5.7L LS1. Body looks to be in good shape, can't see the underside, been sitting for ten years, needs a bunch of work but that's to be expected from a car this cheap and I'm willing to do the work if need be. Nah, the real issue comes from the fact that it's missing a title.

#

In my state, you have to petition the court to get a new title for cars most of the time. Apparently you can send for a Vermont registration since they don't require titles on vehicles older than ten years and then take all the documents to your state's DMV and have them issue a new title, but idk if seeing whether that trick works is worth the $1500 risk.

tepid wing
#

You might be able ask them about such things and you should be able to ask to inspect the car a little more.

#

Them being your state.

timber oar

Yes it works

#

They have a document that you can print out explaining how their no title setup works

#

And even in the off chance it doesn't work

#

Just leave it with Vermont plates 😂

#

What is somebody going to do, find it sus that a car is registered out of state?

#

I don't think so

tepid wing
#

I think it's funny that so many cars use Oklahoma plates in Arkansas, probably because Oklahoma is one of nine title holding states.

wind peak
#

The car is one state over from me in Delaware, and apparently it was last titled in New Hampshire. I can't really inspect it anymore than looking at the photos, I'd rather not drive 200 miles to look at it w/o being sure I wanna get it and put the effort into fixing and retitling it. I've been looking for a mid 80s Vette for a project car, and this might be the best option I'll have for a while. It's been listed for close to two months and nobody else seems to want it.

#

I guess worst case scenario, an okay condition 80k mile LS1 is still worth a good amount right? So even if I buy it and it turns out the car can't be saved, I'd still have an engine for future stuff

#
