But I jokingly said "You're probably going to miss that car" as she hated driving it... She laughed and said "Only the Apple CarPlay"... So I solved that

At least you got CarPlay which is a modern feature
Otherwise, she's stuck listening to FM and CD or AUX
Public transport good in cities and between cities, shite elsewhere. We don't live in a city or in the more crowded part of the country, it's shite here. We don't use public transport
Yeah exactly, so now it brings the car back in to 2023 instead of being 2012
Also way cheaper than buying a newer car
Because, what's the difference now with a newer Polo (or any other similar car)? Probably only safety features like lane keeping, emergency braking, lane keeping etc. Everything else is already on this car
The company car she had, had adaptive cruise. She didn't like it she said
Wow!!
And the great thing is, the unit is a real VW unit, so it looks like it's meant to be there, it integrates well with everything in the car, parking sensors are displayed and everything
Yeah that's so nice did the same thing to my moms BMW like 2 years ago and made a the infotamient system so much better it even has wireless carplay now. But not wireless android auto but it still looks good with the new android auto interface becuse the finally released full screen mode on wide screens.
Yeah don't mind it's not wireless, I mean you can get the VW unit also wireless (although that's not factory, someone modifies these units then) but I hear mixed responses about the performance... Additionally the phones battery drains fairly quickly then, so then you still need to plug it in to charge it
So, wired was the perfect option
Also, great as this is an entire device upgrade... Originally her Polo didn't have hands free calling, but these units have a microphone built-in. So that's also very nice
looks like a shell BMW someone got from a scrapyard and threw a custom widebody kit on.
Carplay is probably the only feature in the last 20 years I want in a car, the maps function alone is a complete game changer for me
when you see this picture, what is the one word you think of when you see it?
snorty-mc'snort-face?
hmm maybe an angry birds character π
The rear end is even worse π₯±
omggggg
BMW .. BMW .. BMW ... it seems they cannot find a good double kidney design
maybe drop the kidneys lol
Its like Lexus, that ugly stingray design ... just drop it !! please!!! it doesnt work
Keep it simple stupid π (KISS)
Audi have a great simple design, love it long time π
which is why I have had two Audi's lol, yeah the grill does it for me 100%
xantia downpipe is a perfect fit
How many eyes? All of them
what is stopping someone from pouring water in it?
Its not permanent heh
Would easily add a weep hole.
You dare disrespect Mr T like this?
Foo.
I didn't know these would get any uglier
I went to a dealer called Alpha Motors that sells Russian cars
They are amongst the only dealers which sell or even have Russian cars in Massachusetts
This is also the first time I have ever seen a Russian car in the 11 years I have lived in the US
I have seen a ton of Ladas when I lived in Russia between 2006 and 2012
Anyone here ride bikes?
yes
my brain isnt braining, is this a gr86 or a mk5 supra π
supra
I guess from the front I can see why you could confuse them
but the grill and headlights gave it away
tf is .avif
idfk
das what i was saying
like my brain stopped braining
the rear looks diff
what he sent me
yeah but from this angle its difficult to see
Clearly the Mk5 Supra.
Top one with those three images is the GR86.
yeah ik
You can honestly tell the different between the Supra and GT/GR86 from the paint alone.
Paint quality looks so much higher on the Supra.
I think hte bmw designers had a collective stroke 10 years ago and noone has had hte heart to fire them
easily the mk5
(you can tell by the BMW door handles and mirrors)
Hey. Can anyone tell me the difference between a factory paintjob on a vehicle and an after market custom paintjob? I have always heard factory is better. I am getting a car and thinking of getting an individual paint job on it from the factory, but it got me thinking what the difference was between that and just getting a custom one from a shop.
It depends
Manufacturers have greatly varying OEM paint jobs
This would be from BMW.
What year
2023
Oh factory is gonna be better unless you spend a ton of money on a good shop
I am getting a M4 Competition, thinking of getting the Individual Color option.
Just get the factory color option
Aftermarket will costs you thousands and take soooo much time
Yeah, that was my thought. I mean, it takes time from BMW as well, but I think it is worth it.
could always wrap it if you want to spice it up after a while, also congrats on getting an M4 Comp, amazing car
Whoa are you telling me someone used hyperbole to get you to click something? Omg π
Thank you, it is, I can't wait! I mean, I can, but it isn't easy!
yeah that must be difficult! I've not have had that experience yet with a car but I find it difficult to wait for my pizza, so this must be agonizing
Yeah, I am like that as well. But I saved up a large amount to put as a down payment, so that took me a while, another few months ain't going to make much of a difference in the long run.
sure, but taht doesnt make the wait less annoying! Anyways, enjoy it
So we just threw the second most aggressive off the shelf tune that this car's current mods support onto it and the way it launches is genuinely insane all things considered

Flashed Stage 2+ right before doing these pulls.

Out of curiosity, have any of you swapped the vacuum booster with an ibooster?
Also out of curiosity, are there any engine mods for an Equinox with the big engine that won't make it loud but will give it more pep?
Is the car you're asking about a hybrid?
No.
Then there's no point
It's a '13 Equinox.
They're designed specifically for electric cars
There's a point.
and hybrids
On the other question, its the 3.6L V6 right?
Yeah, I think so.
It's not mine right now, so I can't actually do any of this stuff but it's fun to think about.
chipping it
The easiest thing to do is to get an ECU flash for it. You can boost the horsepower and torque by ~20 each for around $500
Which will also give you slightly better throttle response and low end
aka chipping it π
There are very few off the shelf options other than that
this lad gets it
Frankly it's not a good engine for performance mods
If I'm modding things, it's getting an ibooster and an electric rack for ADAS at least.
Yeah I figured.
You can have custom stuff done but it would just make more sense to buy something with a V8 if you want something american
tfs an ibooster
iBooster had to do with the brake system
It uses electrons instead of vacuum.
Yeah, I want a Comma.
It's a decent upgrade but buying better calipers and pads would also do the same thing
and provide a more tangible difference
Not really, it still has a direct connection but the computer can actuate it as well.
I'm not doing it for performance, I'm doing it for computer control.
what for
π€¨
wanna make worlds largest RC car?
If I get the car of course.
oh that
oh neat
The best ADAS.
never doing that but incredibly cool nonetheless
you do you I guess, although that seems not like a worthwhile investment for the car
ye it is pretty dope
I mean like I get it
sure
I have a Model 3 and a 3 series
Eh, it sounds like fun.
fair enough
The Model 3 is great for road trips because of autopilot
I'm saving for a Bolt right now.
Once I get a better job I'll be able to just buy it, but that's still a ways off.
buy what
the bolt i imagine
Bolt.
Depending on how much better the job is, I might get a EV6 instead. It all depends on my pay...
im confused by the choice of words in the sense that even if you get a better job youd still need to save for it right?
oh
leasing
right
car debt sucks
go for a car that is less than 1/3rd your annual salary unless you're like living with family
shit has gotten wildly expensive in north america around cars and living
Yeah it's crazy.
I'm okay over spending a little on the car because it's less to own, but my down payment will be at least 50% of the price.
I'm not going to buy a car on a loan I can't pay off within a couple of years.
yeah
I made that mistake initially
my current car was only a 2 year loan
already 1/4 of the way done
much less stress than a logn term loan
My parents raised me to avoid long term debt as much as possible.
btw a much better deal than an EV6 if you want something fancier
BMW i3
you can get them for like $12,000 lol
very nice actually
the concept of a loan on car is so weird to me
but I guess if it works for you then more power to you
its nice to be able to get a nicer car I guess
I don't see it: https://comma.ai/vehicles
I don't base recommendations off of their compatibility with comma so apologies on that
But that's something I can look into some.
but yeah on the equinox
speaking from experience
aside from comma if you really want to
Yeah I'm straight up not buying a car if it's not on the list or if it's ICE.
it's not worth modifying
yeah that's fair
take it from someone that has owned multiple modified cars, the worst thing to do is get a car and attempt to do power mods to it when the engine is not a popular platform for them. unless you have experience with it prior
the costs modifying it are difficult to access beforehand and often astronomical
Pretty good condition and people think it's not a '13...
like w/ my bmw for example
N55 is a very popular engine to modify because it makes power reliably
very healthy aftermarket of thousands of parts
This is a bit of a mom car I know.
cars a car
im just trying to emphasize it's not the best car to modify is all haha
getting one is always nice
I gotcha.
Sell it for another car that's supported.
That is a much newer looking one.
Oh it's older, dang.
using this as a segway to show off my engine bay one sec
Why does it look so different?
the one your aquaintance has might have a lot of shielding removed or installed differently
I mean a shop lost it (somehow) but things are laid out way differently and the cover was one giant piece.
Maybe it's a little/big engine thing?
the picture I grabbed was of the V6
Wild.
Maybe I'm going crazy.
that's what it should look like
if it is actually the V6
and not in shit condition
unrelated, stock N55 engine bay for comparison
There's a part of me that wants to buy a Montana.
5 cylinder gang
I wish
N55 is a 3.0L i6
still sounds great though
doesn't have the perfect fifth of an i5
no I know im just saying in in the 5 cylinder gang
I grew up with a red montana and it would be fun to make an EV out of those memories, but that's very expensive.
I thought about it with my BMW too but the cost is what turned me away
If I ever blow the engine
I was like
"I could EV conversion"
but it would cost well over $40,000 in parts alone
What should we get done to the Equinox? The owners only do basic maintenance stuff and it's nearly 100K. (Oil, brakes when the wear indicators are sounding, tires)
Yeah, I'd do it just to do it if I had the cash.
Not if you do it right.
part of why I bought the BMW in the first place was for performance
doing it right would be more money is the point I was making haha
I spent $13,000 on the car
get all the bushings and rubbers of the suspension replaced
it currently outpaces a lot of supercars in the quarter mile
massive difference
I don't wanna spend $60,000 to have it be slower on the track and less daily drivable
at that point I might as well just buy another tesla
also I don't have $6,000
let alone $60,000
π€
I'm only buying a Tesla if it's for a few grand. :V
not worth it
a cheap tesla is an expensive tesla in disguise
most cheap teslas have battery pack failures
replacing those batteries is $16,000 for a used pack
An expensive one is an expensive one.
I don't value Teslas very highly.
the market doesn't really care how you value them
their parts are incredibly expensive and in high demand
Yeah.
technically they are at least worth your respect
There's a reason I'm never getting one.
as a Model 3 owner I can confidently say they are not worth my respect
Eh, I only like them for kicking everyone else into gear.

Pfft, would you sell yours for a couple grand? /s
im not saying that the entire car demands respect im saying that the electrical engineering in the battery tech and the drive units itself is the best on the market, and for that they do have my respect
oh yeah 100%
the engineers are amazing
and the cars themselves are fantastic
the Model 3 is by far the best all round daily driver I have ever owned
it's not even close
also "best on the market" is dumb cuz there are certain cases and higher voltage systems and whatever but generally for the cost effectiveness of the cars its amazing
Here I am trying to get a cheap EV to put a phone in that beats their ADAS.
I do wish there were more car like EVs.
I'm not the biggest fan of "honey I shrunk the SUV" cars but there's not too much to be done about that right now.
I do also plan on making all future car purchases out of pocket and not with loans.
I just don't have one right now.
Ooooo.
Based loosely on the M3
That's nice looking.
yeah I think it is too
Don't BMWs use FlexRay or something?
I'm biased considering I'm admittedly a BMW fan
Oh weird, that's an EV right?
This little guy is in a spot I wouldn't expect it to be in.
Pfft, the new AI eraser sucks.
Ah, it's made for backwards parking.
How much is that car?
Also I guess I should consider the tax breaks too...
I'm also wondering if it would hurt Comma to be on LMG...
Pings all writers about Comma. /s
looks like stealthboy effect from fallout
Backing into the parking spots is the superior way to park.
Sad they don't teach to park like that with tuck+trailer
This was the second place that we unloaded at. There's just enough room there to reverse a trailer there in the slot far away.
Though, at night time. Then the place if filled with parked trucks
But we just park the trailer on the street, since it's just the truck that needs to be emptied.
I have 2 led torches to help me with backing up
Some trailers don't really have reversing lights
Having lights mounted on the trailers and the truck helps so much.
They are just there for others to see that you're reversing.
The truck that I'm driving have four flood lights for reversing.
Led ones?
That helps a lot
Just wished that I could light them without reversing.
I think I'm gonna get a wireless camera
Other trucks that I have driven had a switch for them.
A reverse camera is mandatory in some countries, no?
What I like with my reverse camera is that it has a cover that folds down when it's not in use.
The more options that I have, the better.
meanwhile I wish that the trailes I drove had functioning courtains
Still can't wait to get a newer truck, though.
The front axle on the one I'm driving feels clapped out.
suprisingly the front axle and the steering on my ran down iveco feels pretty solid and precise
I haven't scraped the front more in any other truck.
better than some trucks with 1/3 rd of the Kilometrage
I have driven crane trucks with better ground clearance.
my truck has like 820 000 km on the clock
I've seen some dafs with like 300k that were in much owrse shape
That's what the clearance is like when loaded. And I scraped going down that decline.
F
I drove a truck+trailer before that basically had vary low ground clerance
but it was 4.20 meters tall
the volvo v70 lasted about 100 miles before Edinbruh broke it
why would they hold the only thing that stops fuel lines from scraping along the ground onto the car with just some plastic clips
re-creating the M5 brochure for my senior photos
that's cool
Cars actually drive better when they are clean
especially if you gave the wheelwells/suspension/wheel area a good clean
Mine is dirty AF but as it's raining all the time I can't really clean it
Front rims are almost black
pffff
Ideally i would wash off the car once a week during winter times.
Just give it a quick rinse at one of those wash boxes
cool wheels
That was very confusing, especially since I recently got new wheels myself π
oh LOL have you posted them yet
makes me curious now
They are from an X3. π
Got the rims for like $190.
π
oh wow
i have a non functional 325xi wagon with the 10 spokes
Doesn't really looks as good in pictures as it does IRL
And then I put on some 225/45R17 Pilot Sport 5 on them.
PS5 gang
Anyone in here familiar with fueltech?
Built in underbonnet vacuum cleaner
Perfect timing π
You know it. (:
bosch VE moment
finest technology being lost to time
Finally got my first gen registered and on the road... turned up the fueling screw a bit on the ve too
@stray sandal I spend like 15 min looking for this video but for me this video kinda threw me off about it being a game or not
Hand animation way too perfect
its a game from 2013
Yep
too much camera shake to be real
what? If anything its too stable
not from the 2013 footage I've seen
more that the camera is shaking entirely independent of the car
nice, I have a p-pump 2nd gen sitting outside my dorm right now
not mine, borrowed my dad's truck to move out of college
I've been trying to convince him to let me mess with it but no luck so far
fuel plate, timing, and a bit more boost would be nice
korea 2013 fernando alonso onboard
its not bad
I'm mostly looking at the car

the the rest is ok but most of the movement is vertical due to bumps in the road rather than vibration
the sounds is also really bad in the game π but that was always pretty obvious
Can we post bike stuff here?
sure
although doubt youll overshadow mine
Is it a car
My uncles new ktm he bought
What you riding?

all of em
I wish
π
I mean we have a fair collection
6 bikes in the garage atm
Only 1 in that pic is mine
I know nothing about bikes man but they all look dope as hell but I like the red one the most I guess
frick
Out of all of em only 1 is ours and its the red one as he just rode with us that day
Short summary would be we have 5 normal bikes of which 3 are supersport class and 2 cruisers and then one trike
Supersports are the following:
Ktm RC 390
Kawasaki Z1000SX
Kawasaki ZX14R
Cruisers are as follow:
Suzuki intruder 1400 bobber mod
Suzuki intruder 1400 (completely stock)
The trike is a special case, old beetle rear chassis with a custom built front chassis and fiberglass body with an old 1300 beetle motor strapped in
I was genuinely happy when i first found out linus has a bike too its a passion and its only made me like him as a person even more
What's the thing hanging off the pannier?
I think the rear light that will inevitability get stolen
for if one gets stolen
no its because I got gifted one because I thought the one at the back was broke but it still worked so then I had too π
@brittle totem Have you driven a Volvo yet?
Itβs literally perfect (also interior doesnβt seem too bad)
Apparently brakes and motor mounts are the only few issues
Itβs also a turbo, idk why Iβm looking at Volvosππ
coz volvos are nice
though with that many miles I cant say the risk involved is particularly small
Who in their right mind would tailgate a fully marked police car?
just ordered an adapter for my cavalier to make the 4x6s 6.5s, it should sound wild. i cant stand how my 4x6s try to play bass and make a pathetic noise as they try to overpower my subs
looking at rockville for my new speakers. kicker cs 6.5s are what i have in my truck, 4 of them and they are amazing. they arent too bass heavy but help my 10 inch sub.
Yeah
If I were to get a vovlo as my first car, I would be kinda concerned on Mileage
Since I have no idea when vovlos become unreliable or just die
nothing except for an older diesel is worth 4k with 200k
we got my gf a 2004 altima with 201k, 1800$
I know nothing much about vovlo tbh
So I canβt say what is a good or bad engine, year, etc
im a dodge/chevy guy
i reaaaaallllyyy reccomend a 1995-2002 chevy cavalier with the 2.2
its a truck engine and the just dont die
I might just get a manual s10 or a Honda fit/jazz
the cav has the s10 engine
Pretty high hp, good on track, and fairly light (while being a truck)
the 2nd gen dodge dakota is a great platform for a race truck
Maybe
5.9 magnum from factory
Ik manual s10s are decently cheap in my area
Like 4-7k I would say
I would prefer a single cab βshortβ bed, but if not itβs fine
thats not cheap
It isnβt a bad price here
my 4wd quad cab 2007 dakota was 3k
not here fr
While 4k isnβt super cheap, it isnβt super terrible
Definitely better then it was, but not super great still
(The car market)
Also I just realized I havenβt stayed up til 1am in a decent bit
Although thatβs off topic
Who else is excited about the Aging Wheels EV build?
couldnt care less tbh
I think he's pretty entertaining and EV conversations are pretty cool to me.
its just all the same to me, it sucks that were losing the best cars of this generation to be replaced by e-muscle
i mean the 98 ram 2500 12v I'm driving this week was $3500
thats real truck shit
im a dodge boy and my trans blew, my heart is demolished rn
just bought these, will get back if they suck or not
The truck is named for what you should do when you see it
You dodge
dodge moment
chrysler cant build automatic transmissions
the best dodge trucks are the ones with engines and transmissions bought from other companies
no, they can build a good trans.
the 42rle is based off of a 1988 trans, when they sucked
the 545rfe is amazing
i suppose the best transmission they ever used wasn't made by dodge, the g56
the best transmission in any dodge truck is a new process NV5600
The NV5600 is a Heavy Duty close ratio 6-speed manual transmission that was used in 1999-2005 Dodge RAM 2500 and 3500 Series ΒΎ ton and 1 ton Trucks with the 5.9L Cummins Engines. It was manufactured by New Venture Gear, a division of Magna Powertrain.
is that 2g?
oh 2g and early 3g
idk, the g56 is pretty good
the 56 can only handle 600ft pound in stock form, that's not great
Man. Would love better speakers in this truck.
i do car audio a lot, so i could never have a stock system
my buddy has a stock system in his 1996 f150 and it suuuuuuucks
Someone I know runs this.
Nopeπ
The older ones can last for a long time as long as they are maintained well.
Reminds me of this one that I have seen a few times at KKB. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJmQMUm3/
@brittle totem what's worse than being stuck behind an A tractor?
||Being stuck behind an A tractor, towing another A tractor.||
Is it too off topic to ask where this pullover came from? I looked online and could only find ones with a small logo in the corner, but not the big one on the back and sponsers on the sleeves
True
le Shitbox
It looks fun.
Are those your fluids? lol
fresh water after washing π
The blacked out tail lights are slightly rice, but otherwise, very nice!
believe me, the ibiza 6l original are ugly
like this
also mine are LED
some models have it in chrome
Isn't it illegal to replace those with LEDs?
Shouldn't be
Maybe it's okay in Europe then? π€·
Not illegal here in the U.S., I know that
in uk it is
Does that apply to tail lights?
Not sure about rear's everyone does it anyway so beh, rule would make sense though as the output is completely different so should really be left alone unless changing entire housing.
All of the lights technically have to be certified to a certain standard.
Many times you can get away with it if it's good enough.
never really seen the point like
see some oldish cars with LED headlights and its just awful
people just get jealous that all those stupid suv drivers get to blind everyone else
I was behind a model X not too long ago in stop and go traffic at night and felt like I was gonna lose my retina's if I seen their brake lights any longer
Gotta make them easy to see when autopilot decides to park itself on the motorway :^)
A funny thing about some American trucks here in Europe - Is that they have a separate amber turn signal on the bumper???
I believe it's because of regulations. Not sure we allow red turn signals over here.
I need some kind of LED replacement for my taillights in the 997. They're dangerously dim by modern standards
but shopping all I can find is shitty ricer altezza-look options. Still looking for something nice
Almost hit a car recently which was doing like 80 in a 130 because their taillights werenβt working
It wasnβt even dark yet, just slightly dim
My wife was following me in a bad rain storm and said that even knowing my car was there she still couldn't see it until she was right up on top of me. Car lighting has gotten so much better in the past decade or two
It's baffling to me that they allow red turn signals here in the US. Amber is so much more visible and distinctive. I just got a new car and it doesn't have amber turn signals in the rear. I'm trying to figure out if I can order euro part number tail lights and retrofit
Europe requires amber turn signals
There are studies linked below that demonstrate a tangible safety benefit of amber turn signals. You might want to check them out. Though it might be small, the benefit is demonstrably there.
This has always bugged me, and no one talks about it. Our automotive lighting regulations in North America are stupid when it comes to tail lights. Thi...
That's not true, red is also allowed
But it's extremely stupid to do so
Although that's probably allowed so US imports can be registered
I love it when people have a brake light out and start tapping the pedal
Well the brake and rear lights on our passat is extreamly bright i guess it's just a common thing on modern cars.
The guy who made an hour long video about a toaster
Love his videos
Same.
indeed
The AUTOMATIC toaster
Hands free toaster
He doesn't live very far from me
Tell me if you ever see him with old tech
If you see a Nissan Figaro, you will probably know who it is lmao
Only a US problem, In Europe it's just a line
Union Jack is just there for the regular taillights
Actually, it is.
any exterior light originally shipped with halogen bulbs is DOT certified with the intended bulb and nothing else
and there are no officially DOT Certified LED replacement bulbs either, at least not that I am aware of
and when you buy LEDs, they are legally obligated to label them as "For off road use only"
That said, I highly doubt any cop would actually pull you over and be like "Did you replace your halogen brake light bulbs with LEDs?"
But it should be noted that you should not replace head light bulbs with LEDs regardless because the beam pattern is wrong and you will blind other drivers; on top of being illegal it is very dangerous.
LED brake light bulbs are also a point of contention because poorly designed and/or poor quality bulbs may not have the right brightness differential between the running light and brake light (regardless if "dual filament" or not, this is important) and other drivers may not realize you are braking
to the led topic: there are no bulbs in it it's total makeover look also legal even that tinted
There are too many morons with improperly adjusted LED headlights and taillights
Bulbs and Light Emitting Diodes are interchangeable during discussion of lighting in vehicles
Almost no LED on a vehicle is a βbulbβ but they fall under the same regulations
Im pretty sure not in this aftermarket thing I have
It's modifying safety equipment on your car so π€·
Nice fake video embed Ticktock, you got me.
yeah but it has "E Numbers" and is certified π
I am looking forward to the better LED headlights that new cars will be able to use. They'll blind less people and still let you see.
Honda needs to fix their shit
Collapsed neutron star bright LEDs
What's the process for test driving cars usually like in the states?
Depends on what you wanna drive
Usually walk in, ask, show license and insurance, go drive
You need insurance before hand? That's wild, I don't have a car to get insurance.
You can get driverβs insurance without a car
Liability insurance
As for test driving
Really depends. Honda wouldnβt even let me sit in a type-r, let alone drive it
So I'm going to need to get insurance for just myself for a small window, make sure the car I want isn't a huge mistake, buy it, get a different plan?
Wild.
You can also just buy the car, put it on insurance before picking it up
I guess.
Thatβs what I did with my miata
I'm planning on a Bolt right now.
Financially smart decision, shouldnβt be hard or expensive to insure
Plus I can use the best ADAS available with it.
Legally you are not supposed to modify exterior lighting
Tinting tail lights is illegal and dangerous
Reducing the visible light allowed through the lens will reduce visibility to other drivers and could potentially cause an accident
factory schmoke
Even buying aftermarket assemblies that might look nicer or whatever can be poorly designed
Personally idgaf what you do to your car, just make sure something like this functions like stock
I don't want to crash into you because you thought black tail lights look nicer and I couldn't see your brake lights when you panic stopped bc a kid ran into the street or something
It's my favorite thing when someone has brake lights that are 1% brighter when in use and they drive with two feet.
How else am I going to keep boost if not driving with 2 feet
I've only had to deal with this from people that clearly didn't have a turbo.
Safety is important, and safety is not limited to airbags, seatbelts, and crumple zones
It also extends to things that alert other drivers and allow the car to avoid obstacles and/or come to a stop
Speaking of safety
yikes
I can see the canvas, lol
this is what a 800 whp 335i wheel looks like
Nah, that just what power does
torque shreds tires like no tomorrow
torque mainly
Doesn't matter how much power you make, should be able to use your eyes and see when your tire tread is getting low
even my dad's E220 CDI shreds through tires
Eyes exist for a reason
Do you check your tires every 100 miles? lol
I check my tire pressure every week or so
You can do 2000 miles in under a week
while I'm there I can easily take the 2 seconds to look for uneven wear, dry rot, tread wear, etc
I mean to be fair it is a racing car its not really meant to be taken out on the road for dailying
i took it out a couple days ago only because the weather is warm again
Also checking pressures every week is slightly ridiculous, lol
I mean, its really not that far removed from checking your oil level lol
i check my oil like every 5000 miles let alone 2000 lol
besides the car checks my oil for me
the car also checks my tire pressure and stuff too
I checked my oil like once since I've had my car
Car will tell me if something is wrong haha
I just got a new car and TPMS tells me pressure and temperature for each wheel
When local weather allows temperature fluctuations of 20F or more within 2 days, its not. A 10 degree ambient temperature drop changes tire pressure by up to 1 psi
common if its cold outside
I mean the TMPS sensors measure it, which isn't common
Which is like nothing at all? lol
proper tire pressure is important. It affects fuel economy more than you think
Not it affect it exactly how much I think it does
Not all cars give you pressure readouts for each wheel. A lot of times its just a dummy light
or it's derived from the wheel spin sensors, as RPJ alluded to
I was just mentioning that I am impressed that this car measures pressure and temps for each wheel, which is really nice
Besides my tires gain like 5 PSI just after sending it for a bit
ABS uses magenetic sensor to detect wheel speed, not pressure
idk what you mean by that
yeah warming up tires makes a difference
1 psi less isn't going to kill me π
yes, and you can derive a fake tire pressure from that wheel speed sensor to alert on low pressure without actually having to measure pressure
Yes, which changes with pressure
which a lot of cars do
Makes sense as a very primitive system I suppose
Kek if I'm lucky I check it every other month
it's cheap and it works to detect a flat, which is what 90% of drivers care about
without needing expensive in-tire sensors which 90% of drivers resent paying for
ig I'm just paranoid. Β―_(γ)_/Β―
my 328i on runflats
but, as I said, I love that this new car has sensors which do pressure and temp.
I wish every car did that
my abs based tire pressure monitoring will warn be even with very small pressure differences
most new cars to pressure and temp sensing now
cool, this is the first time I'd encountered it
its useful for track days
indeed
But I have built up the habit bc I notice the tires in some of my cars gets low if they sit for extended periods of time, which is not abnormal
In my 911 on my track wheels I have to wait until the temps/pressure come up a bit before I can go crazy, otherwise the tires spin on the rims
ive only tracked the 335i a couple times but its pretty much uncontrollable
I track every car I own. π
doesnt matter what tires i put on it. spins up until 3rd gear
Sounds like a skill issue
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
Its not like it ruins my day to spend 2 extra minutes checking and filling my tires lol
^ same. I'd never seen it before and I drive a lot of cars
Anything pre 2020 is pretty uncommon
Should check my oil regularly anyway. Can do that and start the engine while the tires inflate
even Teslas these days have the temperature tire readouts
My car has a "Oil Quality" reading
Brake temps on Ferrari is also used to issue a warning if you're about to damage your carbon fiber wheels from heat.
my car doesnt have a dipstick anymore, just measures the oil using a capacitor
I hate that metric so much
its completely baseless and means nothing
if theres metal in the oil i'd like to know
Do the blackstone analysis after the oil changes
Yeah, there's nothing inherently wrong with an oil level sensor or gauge
but dipsticks are still fairly important for checking oil condition
I do this on the race cars
the oil life meter is utterly worthless
Oil analysis is great and all, but its horribly inconvenient
shrug I do my own oil changes, so it doesn't really add any hassle
I'd like to be able to see if my oil has turned pitch black in 200 miles
No dipstick makes that extremely inconvenient.
Just get a british car and you can measure it from the seepage and drippings. Easy peasy
My car pretty much uses no oil at all either
My RX-7 does
And it doesn't chew tires either
but its a rotary so makes sense
Rotary engine you just put cases of oil and apex seals on amazon subscribe and save
I like to check my oil in other cars too anyway. Might not notice a leak visibly right away, and could be an internal leak too like valve stems
With you owning an RX-7 I kinda understand the paranoia you have with your tires
how so
Well they aren't exactly known for their reliability
cries in ignorance
idk what "rotary bad" has to do with tires lol
When did I say rotary bad
What's special about an rx-7 that makes it more understandable to closely monitor tire pressures?
I just like having proper tire pressure to avoid running flat bc temperature swings wildly where I live and I like getting as good of mpg as I can with minimal effort
tire pressure differentials matter more the lighter your wheels are. I could always tell if a tire was even slightly off-pressure in my NA miata.
plus pretty sure a couple of my wheels across cars lose air more than others. Not a fan of having one tire 5psi+ lower than the other 3
Yeah, most of my wheels are aluminum
the RX-7, ironically, has few issues with tire pressure changing
but yeah, only my daily actually has a TPMS of any variety
Same thing cant be said for my dads Passat π
seems possible
How many miles on that Passat?
58096km
5.6L/100km
Yup the consumption is quite high during rush hour traffic through Stockholm.
hopefully my driveshaft that arrives tomorrow fits else the gearbox has to come back out again heh
pics from last engine swap, deja vu
going from the slowest car ive owned to probably the fastest car ive owned
Sounds like the average shitbox
Im tempted to cancel my breakdown cover
owned lots of shitty cars, broken down a few too many times. Only called breakdown cover once and a friend randomly stumbled across me before they turned up.
already have breakdown cover :^)
Mini Tronk
The only time I didn't have a breakdown cover my car broke down
Well. More like a whell bearing broke in half
Rip. Only "Breakdown" I've ever had was the shift cable popping off the trans
Technically had 2 breakdowns while I had breakdown cover, but I still drove my car for like 8000 km like that
And I did 5000 km with broken gearbox
That probably didn't sound good
I just lost 5th gear due to defective gearbox
And the 8000 km I did with basically blown head gasket
But it was weird because I didn't have any signs of blown headgasket
Might been the head that warped or something.
Also it had slightly increased oil consumption, but I've assumed it was normal
most of my breakdowns have just been due to aged rubber
Electrical tape fixes literally everything
its a special tape specifically for this I keep on me
for my engine swap most of this stuff custom silicone bits now so should be good
hmmm can electrical tape hold my fuel lines to my car
I suppose if I just wrapped the tape all the way around the car it'd work
Before sound system mods, 30 year old speakers π
Iβm probably going to put a nice tape deck and some better speakers and maybe a sub in the spare tire like rust what vw does, I want it to look stock
An after is when I have money and fixed everything else in the car
Just be sure to buy the good electrical tape that won't melt and get all sticky in the sun. Look for "super 88" tape
that's a grade of tape, not a brand name or product name
I'd be more worried about salt water etc getting onto it
any VAG Owners here with Diagnostic Experience? Is OBDeleven good?
Yes officer, itβs stock.
Welcome to Chinese supermarket
@gentle ingot Have you ever visited Allston?
Or Malden?
Not knowingly. I've been in and around Boston a fair bit.
well it's also a kind of electrical tape, and also a kind of oldsmobile
People drive with such brakes? Thatβs suicidal
The Meteor Project is all about the dream to put a very large engine into a car. The car is a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 2006 and the engine is a Rolls Royce Meteor V12 with a displacement of 27 litres (1.649 cui). The Meteor is a very close relative to the Merlin engine that could be found in the Spitfire fighter aircraft.
Here you...
Wow!!
Do you have ethanol in your fuel?
My fuel lines are new and all my cars are diesel.
Basically all fuel has ethanol in it now.
At least non-diesel.
In Norway 98 is still ethanol free thanks to lobbying from the Amcar community.
98 Oct is 5% ethanol in Sweden
Which is one of several reasons why i don't fill up in Sweden on my way to Germany
or Denmark for that matter - can just about make it on one tank
Modern cars run just fine on a little bit of ethanol.
It's just really old cars that hate it. Clogs up stuff and ruins hoses.
@elfin stone do you think there's a way to read the information of the TID display?
I'm thinking of a project to replace the top screen with a touchscreen and OpenAuto (Pro) as a project but then the sound still needs to go through the original headunit I think... So displaying radio etc then needs to be on that screen also
And I don't think I can get it to work with the steeringwheel controls then...
I know there's a guy who did take out the guds of the original radio and rewired the buttons to the Raspberry Pi but that's a but too much work
Additionally he's decoding the Canbus steeringwheel input but he didn't update his project in 4 years so idk if he succeeded or not
I kind of want Android Auto but a headunit with a display at the location below is very annoying, you have to look down way to far to make it work
That looks OEM which is what I want
But there's no drop in replacement for the top screen sadly, there is for the headunit itself but those are kinda meh
You can always do the thing the wrong way asnd solder the wires directly to the matrix
or the buttons
For the headunit itself I'd say that's possible but for the steeringwheel controls it's quite difficult I think?
I think it also goes over Canbus, so then I also need to decode that?
Sounds too difficult
I currently have this setup.... Which is actually fine tho, and replacing the actual headunit would make the screen way to low to look at while driving
Only problem I'm facing is that it doesn't have bluetooth from the factory, which I fixed using a dongle... But that also has a very shitty microphone in it, and then Android immediately accepts that as a bluetooth microphone for calling which is barely audible
I'd also be happy if I could just let sound go through the Bluetooth but use the phone's microphone, then I don't have to do anything, but apparently that's not an option

I can either go full Bluetooth or Full Speaker, not Bluetooth Audio & Phone microphone π
Hmm so then I'd only need to piggyback the wire going from the steering column to the headunit?
Hmm that's a fair point, I might be able to look in to that
If I can get a ready made adapter, and then interpret those values...
It does have a CAN H and CAN L input
So just turning on the radio without ignition, and see whether the Steering wheel controls work? Iirc , they do
Buttons are transmitted via canbus on the Astra H and Corsa D, no resistance you could piggyback on. Stuff goes to the Column module and gets translated
french parking :^)
Wtf
fr
braille park by feel
Are there anyone in love with scooter?
No
I have a scooter on order
A Segway gt2 itβs gona get to me on may 16th
oh an electrical scooter
I prefer gas
it is not convenience in Vietnam because of the traffic is too much motorbike and gas scooter
me too
most of vehicles in Vietnam are gasonline scooter and motorbike
like this Honda PS
Yea itβs like just for fun though I donβt ever use scooters to get places I joy ride them
Yeah Napoli parking style is more useable
@vocal mural maybe?
in Hanoi, there are some cars that parked in the middle of the road =))
Peugeot 508 drivrshaft on modified 305
I wanted a car with extendable forklift forks that can come out of the front.
Just get a forklift
As long as you are forklift certified
I'm not certified and I drove one at work all the time
But I want it so i can yeet people out of the way while im driving
tuning and modifing in vehicles on Vietnam are illegal β οΈ
Is that a mugen???
it was tuned and modified already
My mom just said the 100K mile 10 year old car doesn't need any additional maintenance than normal because it's been "babied".
I can understand why modern cars are designed for such large maintenance windows, people just don't care enough to do maintenance anyway.
Extra ping: @tawdry nest
Yes. I have an Kymco moped scooter and drive happily around with it.
Although I am saving to get A driving license.
The entire GDP of Vietnam
If you keep some kind of schedule for maintenance. Then a modern car will last you heaps of years.
They only do oil when the oil life is down and tires when they get holes.
Nothing else.
I wished more places had mandatory inspections.
Well I guess car washes but that's even more minor.
The ones here seem to just be a token gesture.
The front end needs some work on this car, it's squeaky when it used to not be. Almost like bushings are just not there anymore.
At least it wasn't in Michigan so it shouldn't be rusted out at all from the salt.
Washing a car and doing it properly is a lot more important than most people realize
Up north it's a pretty big deal.
528i for $500
Suspected blown head gasket
Approx. 160k miles
Body and interior appear to be very clean
Luckily I found the owner now because he was gonna junk it
Seen a couple of those around here
The copper looks really good
holy crap buy that
bad head gasket is nothing on those
could also be the valve cover gasket too
Flat, like your gf
Well driving a scooter is kinda fun
I have a Honda and a Honda SH, both are from 2009 but still can drive very smooth as new scooter
i dont have a gf either, i suggest you become a woman so we can start a relation
XD
Yeah being an i6 I'm not too concerned
it's a great car
it was a joke but it seems like no one cared so i just clarify it was a joke
E36 39 or 46?
E39
W
530iA
ah
im not rlly a fan of anything except for the 3 series
im bias towards the 3 series
but 530i still looks nice nonetheless
there's a lightning storm outside and im waiting for doordash to give me good orders cause i love delivering when there's a storm outside
that means higher peak pay and more money
the only 3-series I like are the current G20 and E30
ah
E90 was ok too
for me its only gonna be the e90, e92, and F30
i like more rounder carts
cars
not a big fan of boxy
like the e36 or 46
the e36 and e46 to me has some weird sense of cheapness
getting new trans tmr, hoping to put it in tmr as well
transfer case bolts magically disappeared so i have to get some from the junkyard
Welcome to Vietnam!!
I am vietnamese, born in Vietnam and I just don't like the conservative culture over there
I moved to the US at age 11 from Russia after living in Russia for 6 years and never looked back
I hope I moved straight to the US at age 5 rather than stopped by Russia
I was 11 in 2012. I love travelling around the world and I think Vietnamese people, especially the girls, Vietnamese food, and Vietnamese scenery is beautiful, but I hate some aspects of the culture. The only nice thing about Vietnamese culture in my opinion is that they value education
I think freedom and democracy is better, hence I am gravitated towards Western/Northern Europe, US, Canada, and Oceania. Glad I live in the US and finished MIT.
I don't speak Vietnamese. However, I speak 4 languages, fluent English, fluent Russian, and near fluent in French and German.
2005 Ford Thunderbird, yay or nay?
They aren't that expensive
And I really love how it looks
that actually looks really cool
I really like the old new car aesthetic. Except for maybe the PT Cruiser... But I still have a small spot in my heart for it.
I really like the Chevy SSR also
But I really want a Ford Thunderbird
(2005)
Would this be more useful over a traditional seatbelt cutter / window breaker?
What's great about a normal one is that it lives in your car at all times.
Yeah, it would suck if I drive into the water, and opened some box literally an hour before & forgot to put it back
Haven;t thought of that
Lincoln LS is pretty cool, I like it.
Yay
thats a damn ram 4500 dually in the wrong body lol
I love vaporware
Trust me bro 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 its gonna come out
soonβ’οΈ
At this point E*** has proved his ineptitude to the world, I hope if it does actually come out it doesn't sell.
Wait, that's just the S.
It's amazing how many people fell for Semi.
All you really need is to overcome the initial friction from things being stationary and you're golden. :-)
I think they need someone else to take point just in case tho.
Even if it got brake on each cart I doubt it will do 30 to 0 in 300 feet without spilling the load everywhere.
Moving from 4 different tires to a set of pirellis tonight
Les go
P Zero?
No no nothing so crazy
Scorpion all season plus 3, SUV tires for our crosstour
Right now itβs got 4 different brands and types of all seasons from when we bought it two years ago
And unfortunately my miata has 16βs so the only option is continental extreme contacts or bridgestone all seasons
Yeah I'm sure there's a reason they didn't show it stopping.
Always nice when you can wash your car on the bosses time π
Ahh, I have the 17β so a lot more options
seriously considering putting 17" on
But just so many wheels look awful to me
17 inches on a Miata?
I need to sell off my 16 inchers.
