I think I pay $0.12/kwh right now
My only conclusion is somehow water is shorting out wires either somewhere in the harness or getting inside the module
That was also diesel
I love me some Chris Harris on (Collecting) Cars.
"You go into the desert in a Range Rover, and you then use a Land Cruiser to get back out of it afterwards..."
Chris takes us along with him to Walter's Arena to put his 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser through its paces on their off-road course.
Described by many as the ultimate go-anywhere off-roader, Chris talks us through why he decided to chop in...
plane tech
In non-enthusiast boring consumer news
man, all the 3 row crossover releases lately have been killer
Pilot, CX-90, Atlas and Grand Highlander all look great
And the Telluride refresh
Which makes me even more surprised that there aren't many 3 row entries in the electric vehicle segment
This is clearly something the brands are investing in
All massive Toyota SUV's are pretty great. tbh
But they are just dang expensive.
And really. As fun as it is to check out enthusiast cars. What people are really driving are the mundane vehicles.
There are surprisingly few even hybrid options in the segmenet, which is a shame as well
Kia/Hyundai should really put a hybrid in the Telluride/Pallisade for sure
And for families with 3+ kids or 2 kids and dogs, people are moving up to midsize so they can fit their kids, and stuff in the back seats and trunk without needing a roof rack
#Vanlife
I'm just thinking that hybrid options are making heavy heavies even heavier.
But really, PHEV's are great.
Toyota has 2 hybrid options on the new Highlander, Ford has a hybrid too. Kia and Hyundai have a lot of good hybrid systems across their lineups
Chrysler have a PHEV in a minivan
Like I just don't know how people are justifying buying 22mpgUS vehicles in that segment
I'm thinking about VW right now. And I believe they have some PHEV options.
especially with $6 gas
I don't think VW have any PHEV SUVs in any market
could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure
The Touran is a pretty good size, tbh
Getting up there in age, though. So they will probably come out with a new generation soon.
If at all.
Honestly, size wise it's pretty much perfect. Like for its dimensions it has basically no competitors for interior space
Has the old generation of VW's interior, too. Which is much nicer than the current generation.
Basically the same size as a Tiguan with buckets more interior volume - and three individual seats in the middle row.
They'll put out a seven seater ID buzz but it's not the same
The Buzz is a tiny car compared to the Touran.
The Buzz is way bigger
It is? I wouldn't say so. Maybe feels big inside.
it's 20cm longer and 10cm wider
Dang, that much?
Maybe so.
Considering that the front is much flatter than the Touran, and floor ought to be flat.
I... Just don't like the current generation of the infotainment that VW are using.
Probably brilliant to own and drive. Just want less from the infotainment of modern cars.
The Buzz comes with staggered tired
235 front, 255 rear. Regardless if you go with 18 or 19 inch rims. The 20/21 inchers come with 265 rears.
Here in Sweden we have Tiguan PHEV and Touareg R witch is PHEV to.
It feels way bigger the Tiguan but to be fair the TIguan is not that big if you don't have Tiguan the Passat has way more interior space then the Tiguan.
Yeah we hade the facelifted Tiguan as an loaner when the Passat the remote feature of they keys stopped working after 5 months of ownership.
Looks like we do have Plug in hybrid Tiguans here -- I ddidn't know that
I really like the infotamient system in the new renualt ev not sure what it's called. Why dosen't everey manufacture just use google automotive it so much better then their in house navigation that sucks.
I think a Passat is quite a lot bigger than a Tiguan
Yeah I guess that it doesn't sell thst good becuase an id4 cost nearly as much so their is no reason to go for the tiguan phev.
I'm wrong! 4-6cm longer only, and actually narrower
I'm due for a bit inheritance soon -- seriously considering getting a Touran
I sort of want an Arteon because you can pick one up for the same ish money, and they're nicer inside, faster and cooler
but the practicality of the Touran is pretty much unmatched
There was a high milage new shape touran on sale for like £11000 a few months ago, gutted to have missed out on it
There is an Arteon PHEV as well
This is the cheapest Touran https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301313791191
Find your next car with Auto Trader UK, the official #1 site to buy and sell new and used cars. Over 400,000 cars online. Simple, easy, quick!
But I'm almost certain it's an ex-taxi, and I can't check the history because I can't see the licence plate
It's a really nice spec though, and apparently has a VW service history
The cheapest 2018 one her is 15 250€ and i guess its a decent spec for a Touran. https://www.blocket.se/annons/stockholm/volkswagen_touran_tsi_110_7_sits_varmare/106594385
Tgl that's SUS, they have the plate on basically every car they sell but not that one
1.2 TSI is not really an engien I'd want in a Touran
1.4/1.5 TSI or up imho
It's sold anyway
No idea what made you think it could be an ex-taxi.
I asked - he said it was
Not always a bad thing. But you never know how they have been treated by their passengers.
me old 305's a taxi
id say it could be beneficial atleast you know its been fairly well serviced and kept.
Don't think I'd have a problem with it to be honest if it's been well maintained
Well, Looks like Tavarish had a bad day
Mot pass
That passed the MOT inspection? How the hell....
I don't know what parts I'm looking at.
@charred depot somebody in my class got a ticket for rear tint (in a state that doesn't have rear tint laws) and warnings for his tires, exhaust, and plow lights
His exhaust is still legal because there is no emissions equipment besides the egr on his truck
And you pass mot with that
How is this possible
Got a ticket for plow lights on a plow mount?
ah
The cop tried to say they were illegal but they're amber and white which is legal
Last I checked, as long as they're not police colors, they are legal
Amber and white are legal, correct.
Especially amber. Considering that it's what non-emergency work vehicles use.
He got pulled over in the first place because his front plate was crooked
But it was completely visible
Cop prob forgot what state he was in
2 months ago I started a series called "Ken Block's Gymkhana but" I did not expect to pay a tribute so early. Ken Block was a Legend, a Master of rallying but most importantly a father. When I heard the news I thought about a fake news, then I unfortunately realized Ken Block was dead. The world turned gray and I even thought to remove my edits ...
I've literally been driving for 5 years, since i was 15 or 16
And i have never once been pulled over
How? I don't know
Its certainly not for lack of trying
It also depends on what you drive to.
You love to see it
I just got a internship with Dallara
gonna be building indycars again here haha
Yeah brother got pulled over like once a year when he used to have his BMWs but now with his Abarth he has never got pulled over.
yeah i wonder whats gonna happen with my 79 firebird when i get that going
thats going to be an interesting experiment
probably registered to vermont since its going to be far from emissions legal
and i live in CO so......
😅
Finally got a new car after getting into an accident with my last one
I was so sad when I lost my last car cause it was my first car I purchased
lol
Yeah that's what happens when you are between 18-25 and are driving a BMW. As long as it isn't an active tourer then they don't seem to mind 🤔
Am a BMW driver. Haven't been pulled over for doing anything bad in ever.

Or, well. I did get pulled over when police was searching the area and I pulled out in front of them while they were doing a u-turn the crossing down the street.
Was just a quick "Papers, Please"
And I just told them "Glory to Arstotzka!"
But nah, it was like 5 am. And it was me driving my first day to a new work place.
And then I have been pulled over when I was driving in the middle of the night in a random area.
But the amount of times that I have talked to any police has been limited.
I have a bad idea
What is it
Sending a couple screenshots
It’s like 10mb so give it a minute or two
That is 100% a scam (I bet)
If it is fun then do it
💀💀
The snap on truck got me good. To be fair he threw the drill in for free
we had the power go out at my dealership today, and when youre doing ecu updates to 2020 pilots, its not a fun time lol
do honda diag tools not have batteries
the specific tool we have to use to update the ecus only get power from the usb we plug into our desktops
rip
yeah lol
yeah but for us express techs we only get desktops, we dont do enough work that could benefit from laptops
or at least it was thought not, i kinda doubled as a apprentice for a while so they set my laptop up
but the one day i didnt bring it in
I was sitting in my truck with a laptop for a while earlier just trying to get my datalogging to work
Also my stock tune file nuked itself before I could even back it up so that's great
oooof
we had one of american hondas engineers cause a customer had an issue with the clutch in their 2023 si
he was on his third clutch and it was still slipping, they found an issue with the slave cylinder apparently
that thing had to be getting close to being declared a lemon
ikr lmfao
i need to get the tune that i want for my truck and stop using the canned tune that came on my x4 from sct
and i also need to get a half decent towing tune ready for when i need it
because if you try to tow a decent amount of weight with the spicy tune then you can kiss your trans goodbye
im worried im bout to lol, been putting off a trans service for a hot min
my trans vent kept clogging and my fill plug is loose, so i keep spilling a small bit of trans fluid out the fill
yeah in stock form i don't have to worry about it too much but when i am pushing over 300lb-ft of torque more than stock i should probably keep my eye on it
oh most definitely be keeping an eye on it
i always felt so bad when i had to do one of the recall inspections to some of the cvt in some mid 2010s crvs
cause when i find belt material in the fluid, you can pretty much kiss a couple Gs good bye
yeah
luckily for me i just buy stuff that is a decade out of warranty so i get to pay for it out of pocket
and of course diesel stuff costs a small fortune
a built trans for this truck is like $8000
yikers lol
my coworker has done so much to his diesel. new heads, new turbo, built bottom end, and a new low pressure fuel pump
diesel performance stuff is insanely expensive but also insane when you realize how fast a 7000lbs truck is moving
my truck has head studs, a coolant filter, and an egr delete
oh an an exhaust
or even a 7k lbs truck towing a shit ton and still gapping you
4" downpipe with a 5" exhaust
jeez thats a massive exhaust
the goal of this truck isn't really to go insanely fast or anything because it's my work truck
i just wanted to get it tuned so that i could have more power and better fuel economy
i spend too much on tools and pc parts to have room for car parts lol
but my 15 civic gets me the wallet friendly 35 mpg that i like
This is before and after the relatively basic tune
This truck should be sitting closer to 15 or 16 mpg now but I have no idea until next time I fill up
when i had my chrysler 200s, running e85 i was getting 11mpg
even grannying that car on 87 i only got 20mpg
My dakota was getting about 11mpg when I was daily driving it
This truck was a bit better on the stock tune but it always hurt a bit to fill up
New to the server (but long time subscriber and Floatplane OG) so I figured I’d start here! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but here’s my G80 M3!
Forgot to add some pics under the hood and a sound clip!
i like yellow drls
looks absolutely wicked
the more of these G80 M3s I see the more I like the design of them
it's easily one of my favorite BMW designs overall
I actually came in here to share that I just picked up an F30 335i M-Sport today with some work already done to it to replace my Model 3 and I'm super stoked
Love the BMW 3 and M3 cars
And in true BMW fashion the right headlight failed not even 3 hours into ownership

That generation of BMW is actually super good looking
But no big bean grille
I need to lift up my car, see if my right rear is rolling free again or nah.
Why is bmw under the impression that people want their front grille to look like an actual toaster
I would say its best looking BMW generation. And I guees they will never top it becuase their new designs are getting worse every year.
And the newer ones is where they made a big leap in making their infotainment with screens terrible.
"What do you mean? MORE SCREENS DOESN'T MEAN MORE BETTER?!?!"
I actully dont mind the front grill on the BMW M3/M4 if the car is in a dark colors but with light colors it looks quite bad.
But I prefer the newer BMW interiors at least this one but that maybe last gen now.
Oh, right. I saw a fairly new 7 series yesterday with Alpina rims.
Overall it's nice. I just don't like the display as a main gauge thing.
I prefer the analog look.
So this to me is close to ideal.
The new 7 series back seats is something else. But note sure how that will efect safety in crash.
The real question is why dont you want your grille to look like a toaster?
Also see: jeeps for the past forever
Seems like the are ditching that for their new design scheme which is even worse.
This car looks super fun. https://www.blocket.se/annons/jonkoping/bmw_330_i_touring_m_sport_euro_6_252hk/106639463
330i wagon with a manual.
Looks god but not a big fan of those rims.
Those are easy enough to change.
And would have been nicer if the car had the stock suspension, tbh
I quite like the 230i if you dont need the space of a 3 series. But they are quite rare and the only decent spec one is imported with a sketchy history. And it would gave looked so much better if it hade the m sport package to. https://www.blocket.se/annons/halland/bmw_230i_sportline_sportautomat_navi_prof_helskinn/101195555
The 2 series is more or less the same size as the E46 coupe.
2 series being slightly smaller.
306 is so slidey not had a fwd want to kick out this much
if you so much as think of going off the throttle youll be spinning off the roundabout
Bad rear tires?
its good a goodyear on the rear left but think its a china tyre on the right
That doesn't say much, tbh
not checked the dates, its some old guys car whos given up driving so its probably 10 year old tyres
Could be a 20 year old tires as far as I know.
the back end is so rotten I ripped one of the seatbelts out
I personally don't want to use tires for more than 5 years or there abouts.
Holy shit those wheels and that bodykit, aaaargh
I need to get the dashcam in it before I send it into a ditch
#goals
I got £1 back from insurance transferring the insurance from the 305 onto the 306
Should probably be paying more for the 306 heh

Rusty crusty.
thats the new metal heh
I had a section of my rear brake lines replaced last year.
They had started rusting a bunch.
this has had alot of mechanical work done including that which is nice
but will probably be getting scrapped so meh
just rebuilt the arch a bit so my boot isnt getting 5000 litres of water sprayed into it
@brittle totemThere apparently was a 235i Track Edition. Car came with a limited slip diff and everything.
Well that's weird why not on the m240i ?
Super limited edition on that 235i from what I can understand.
Weird that it wasen't a thing on M240I but on the M235I.
Isen't it bigger i thought it was as big as e92. Or maybe that the 4 series coupe.
F22, 2 series, according to Wiki.
And here's the E46.
I always forget that the 3 series compact was a thing.
Today I wenmt to a mall and someone was just casually parking their Citroën Rosalie
that car is like 90 years old or something
Nice.
Noice
this looks like the one Hammond crashed on the top gear special
Ik this is a game but damn graphics r actually fire
Are they? Are they really?
Dont make me load up FH5
i was thinking more mobile nfs
you ever played nfs rivals before? god i loved that game i dominated everyone
like the cops vs robbers thing
Is that the one where you can play as the racer or the cop
I should still have that for 360
yeeee
Fast, furious, and fun. Rivals blends Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted to great effect.
Hmmm mine is different
Mine is hot pursuit
It wasnt open world which is why i never finished it
Not sure why my phone decided to smooth the fuck out of that but
oh i think that was like the first version
then the second one was the rivals
i think there was also one called nfs rivals or something like that
wait im dumb
maybe there is just 2
Rivals came out in 2013 so im not certain if i would have played it or not
i see
I do remember seeing the box art though
Yeah mine is newer so it’s got the wide screen. Which ngl I REALLY like.
That looks neat
It is insane.
I hate that they got rid of the HVAC controls
Imho the setup they had was nice
Between and underneath the airvents
Now all in the screen 🤮
I did wash the 305 before parking it, im very good at cleaning cars.
Thank you! It’s really nice when you’re actually in the drivers seat.
Honestly I have never used them in this thing. It has an AI hvac so I just set and temperature and forget it. It’ll auto adjust the fan control, heated seats and heated steering wheel.
Yeah looks like a mercedes but better.
How is the comfort in those seats ?
Pain to get in and out (but you get used to it). Once you’re in them they’re super comfy. I’ve put almost 6k miles on them now.
Another assetto corsa pic
Any recommendations on assetto corsa mods ?
Yeah that's the only bad thing about the facelifted 3 series.
the hemi powered 2007 dodge dakota is cancelled, it's getting a 4.7 v8
lame
i'm building it to around 300 crank
my buddy has a coworker who is selling his jeep so i have a 4.7 to use
I mean I js have SOL and then some maps like Shutoko revival project
i take that back, the 4.7 swap would be equally as hard as the 5.7 swap and i'll just get a junkyard engine
Consider this: put hemis on the 4.7
Stopped by my Car Club today!
you have a rad car club
Thank you! You never know what’s in storage haha. The CGT was recently sold :((
lol is it the one Doug Demuro bought?
I think Jake would enjoy the 2002 next to it.
Not sure. It’s the exact same spec though
It was sold late December early January.
Get the Vin!
Haha I’ll ask if anyone knows. I’ll be there tomorrow.
My friends have a few of those, super cool cars.
Mmmm gt40
@slender mural Is that Classic Remise in Düsseldorf?
Which picture?
Nope, it’s my club in Seattle, WA
That's a... Turbo S Exclusive? Can tell it's NA from the amber markers on it.
@slender mural oooh, neat! You're a member of The Shop?
Interesting color on the Turbo. What color is that?
Looks like Meissen Blue
My mom now knows the name of the colour she wants to paint her VW Bus.
a 1968 Westfalia
Meissen Blue
I think she is.
Could look similar to this, then.
indeed
I'm trying to convince her to do a Subaru swap first, however.
Then do paint.
Wrap is always good as a temporary thing. But for pure quality, then you can't go wrong with a real paint job.
F1 constructors titles for the last 2 decades
Williams and Racing Point. For the first two.
The T is Toyota.
BAR-Honda.
What in the world is a BAR honda
British American Racing + Honda
So youre telling me
Two of the biggest countries in racing needed help from the japanese for F1
Where does the american factor in there
No idea. Haven't looked too far into the history.
British American Racing (BAR) was a Formula One constructor that competed in the sport from 1999 to 2005. BAR began by acquiring Tyrrell, and used Supertec engines for their first year. Subsequently, they formed a partnership with Honda which lasted for the next six years.
The team was named after British American Tobacco plc (BAT), which owned ...
Oh so they arent british america
British american is the name of the company its named after
Which appears to have traded between america and britain for tobbacco products
They mustve went out when tobacco product advertising was banned?
History is fun!
Nah it just seems they sucked
hey, would this be a good place to ask about a specific model of car?
Sure would be.
Honda bought them out and i guess they came back in 2019
Just go ahead and ask.
does anyone here know anything about the 1997 Cadillac eldorado? I found one for cheap that i might want to buy
i just want to know all of the factors that might sway me one way or another
Cars lookin pretty cary to me chief
I'm terrible with American cars. But when it comes to cars that are 25+ and older, then I guess it's the same with anything else of that age.
If the bushings, engine bay, and interior is decent. Then it can't be too bad. At least if the price is reasonable.
Expectations for 25+ year old vehicles can only be so high.
there aren't any pictures under the hood, so that's mildly concerning
$3,000 sounds reasonable if it's a pretty clean vehicle.
Doesn't look too bad from those images. But those images say nothing about the operational quality of everything.
true, which is why the lack of pictures under the hood is concerning to me
i know that wouldn't show everything, but it would help
it's also been listed for about 3 years, so that's a bit strange to me
Oh, that for me would be a deal breaker.
You would have to look at the car in personal to really get a feeling for it.
$3,000 is a good amount of money, after all.
true
especially given that it would be my first car
i just want to get a nice one that won't fail on me
it is quite far from me, about 75 miles
so about 120km
i think
About there, yeah.
well i'll give it some thought
like you said, i'd need to go there and see it in person
maybe get a test drive
oh i forgot to mention
it has about 150,000 miles
so about 240,000 km
"Just broken in"
Lots of variables in older cars for what can go bad.
Just time itself is a big factor.
fair
Wear parts on older cars tend to have been neglected.
And some things that are not supposed to be wear parts end up being wear parts.
If you live somewhere with winter, road salt ends up corroding the frame on many older cars and American cars are particularly prone to rust due to a more generous usage of steel compared to aluminium.
Make sure to look under any used car you plan on buying.
i looked into it more
apparently the engine it uses is among the worst in a Cadillac
Tough
Yes!
TIL - You can get an articulating dumper frame, and attach a hooklift body to it.
Is this your Vehicross?
It is!
Sickk! I just saw a black one up close for the first time a couple of weeks ago at my local Cars & Coffee. What have you done to yours?
You can also put a 155mm artillery on it
Yupp. Uses an extended frame for that.
For the kids playing at home
Or a medieval slingshot if you're feeling dangerous..
It will have pizazz tho
That thing can fire off 3 shots and leave before the first one hits the target
2" lift, EBC big brakes, OME external reservoir shocks and suspension, bull bar, custom sound system. Everything else is good enough, except I spun a bearing recently. So now I'll be doing an LS swap soon.
Light a large cankerous ball of flammable material and fire it at your enemies.
Under 90 seconds to stop, deploy, fire three shells, and get moving again.
your enemies need to be within 300 ft
And what 100-120 seconds to target
Hell yeah, what LS?
It's like 55 seconds to target. https://youtu.be/d8x8ITwd4Vg
The modern battlefield is characterized by a multitude of threats and challenges. In order to improve survivability, combat units must be able to work together effectively. The tasks of the artillery may include preparation fire over long distances, suppressing fire, and being able to follow fast-moving ground forces for several days. Fast empla...
74 seconds in that video to stop, fire, and start moving again.
An LS4 for the size. If I can find a solution to my transmission fitment problem, then an LS6.
I love how casual it is too
Like it didnt just dessimate a village or something
It also has targetting that allows it to fire 3 shots and have all 3 hit at the same time
Cars and coffee this morning!
Yknow i saw this ferrari in front of my hotel in south beach
Still cant figure out which one it was
It had like these ducts that went down the rear fender and through to between the headlights
Looking forward to getting Bluetooth in my car.
Bluetooth is nice
Radio stations suck ass
They act like we want to listen to them talk, and then have more ads than music
This is something that piggybacks on the OEM radio. So nothing changes inside of the car.
Noice
Yeah it's one of those bluetooth things that broadcasts fm and you plug it into the 12v socket right?
Nope. It hooks up to the connections on the back of the radio.
Oh ok
That's what I mean with a piggyback.
On other models, then it just replaces the connection from the CD changer. But my car don't have that.
Stick the bluetooth cassette in there bobs yer auntie
Eh mine refuses to work with my iphone, and the pixel does fine sometimes and sometimes not
Maybe the iphone is like whats that a vw, buy something proper
No cassette.
Install one
lol no
I like the original look
I hate this light
Youre going to install a casette player and youre going to like it.
Your tachometer light blinks?
Ran out of time and I can't go to ramp
Sorry
Ohhh. I have never really ran out of time before.
I just know that it is a solid light for me when I'm low on time.
Niw I have to wait
I don't have enough time to get to the ramp and back up
Sucks.
I wonder if they would look between the fingers if you were in OUT and it was a gated area.
Idk
But I don't wanna do this
Accidents can happen and I'll go to prison if something bad would happen while on out
you couldnt even tell
no more vtec for the new 2023 pilots with hondas brand new v6. which means no more leaking spool valves lol
But also no more vtec kicked in
true lol
it looks like mat armstrong is having a much better time with that porsche than was originally thought
Are you in Seattle?
Nope. I'm Canadian.
I've heard about Matt through friends in Texas.
Ah yup there's one in Dallas too!
It's a neat concept and club! I wish there was something like that in my town, but I don't think it would be that popular.
Ahh that's fair
Luckily, there's plenty of businesses and public property that there's informal meets every week once the weather is nice enough.
Deltas are good but rev limiter is not cooperating for some reason
Hot
The owner didn't hit the limiter for the camera 😔
Ferrari V12 limiters are sexy
Some of those FR Ferrari's are scary, though.
Cold air intake.
Lol
Haha
They are not good in summer tho
Lasted me 3 years before the adhesive thing melted off
Rip. Fuel tank filler neck on my truck is leaking. $60 bucks for a fucking Chinese replacement, or $100 bucks for the part from Ford. For what is essentially a piece of glorified radiator hose. Not to mention the fact the bed has to come off to replace it.
At least I ain't paying a shop to do it
pvc pipe to the rescue
Got any better options from Rock Auto?
Yeah, But add in shipping, may as well just go with the $60 Chinese one
might as well buy the quality one from RA then.
Mmm ye billiard balls for intake caps
Dont mind that the rest of the engine is exposed. Those cylinders are gonna be dry as a bone
I don’t understand how they get fuel to it
The same way they get it to steer.
Look at the bottom of the intake stacks
Nah nevermind im slow. That couldnt be it
Bluetooth?
Or could it
Indeed
Hmmmmm
it runs off the nitrogen in the air obviously
Looks like fuel injector but where’s the throttle body
hard to tell, not enough to go off in the pictures. close ups wouldve been better obv
I don’t know
I saw it on a bike ride and took some pictures
JEEZE sorry!!
didnt mean it in that way lol, just saying in general. my bad haha, still a cool vehicle
Not without a fan or radiator.
Its aircooled obviously
Sarcasm my friend
Im sorry, wat is sarcasm
Anyone got an idea what engine it is? Looks like an old Chrysler block to me.
Woah really??
Crazy stuff innit
Thought it might've been an older, pre-hemi firepower or Pontiac engine.
I don’t even know
I think either would be accurate at least. Those fibreglass T-bucket bodies were popular for hot rod kits back in the 70's and 80's. Having an older engine with aftermarket support would be ideal.
How do you like triangle engines?
How about oval engines?
i like these wheels what style are they
666
Oh, yeah. You're right. Didn't actually look close at the first picture with you asking. Just at the second one with the rim. Which were the 666
I like the rims that I got for my bimmer. 👌
Bimmer wheels are always awesome.
i found another car i want an opinion on
it's a 2004 ford crown victoria police interceptor edition
What would the normal town model go for compared to the ex police car?
Oh, gotcha.
this one is 2000 usd
From what I can understand, then they seem to run just about forever if you keep up with maintenance.
yeah, the listing says it runs good
Just reminded of the RCR review of the car.
just some blemishes and its age is what makes it cheap
I'm a community enforcement volunteer! I make a scene at every town hall meeting. I own three Police Interceptors, all bought for under $2,000. I load up a Glock 17, drop my pants, and take aim at my front door from my kitchen table. With the power of imagination, I defend my home again and again and again and again.
this one's a 2004
if that matters
so basically what you're saying is
this is a way better option than the eldorado i posted recently
It'll run basically forever because it's the 4.6
I would say so, yes.
It isn't very fast, it uses a fair amount of gas, and being an ex cop car it probably has a million engine hours
so it's a good first car?
But for $2000 it's a pretty good deal if it's in one piece
They made a million of the cars. So any parts you might need would be cheap.
And doesn't have any major issues
it has about 212k miles
The 4.6 was also used in the mustang and f150 of the era
Parts are abundant and cheap
There are a ton in the junkyard that you can get parts off of too
I would imagine that it might need bushings. If those weren't replaced recently.
but like the other guy was saying, they should be really cheap
Yupp
Yes
But if you don't do them yourself then labor may get you
For $2000 I still think it's fine though
well i have a dad who knows a thing or two about cars and he could teach me
so labor isn't an issue
i'll keep this car in mind
it really helps that i like how it looks
I'd daily a crown vic over the audi honestly
Not a bad first car. In my book.
the other one i saw that i liked was a 1997 cadillac eldorado\
i've heard that the engines in them were very hit or miss
Northstar?
yeah
Do not
I've heard horror stories about the Northstar.
thanks for confirming that for me lmao
Also I am not sure if that era of cadillac had air suspension or not but if it does then that's an extra reason to avoid it
well, if the crown vic is still there after tax returns i'll keep it in mind
Don't worry. There will always be another Crown Vic.
the cadillac is out though
it's sad though because i love how it looks
but if the engine sucks, that's what matters
Is it appealing because it's in your budget? Or can you go a bit higher in price and get a newer model interceptor?
My general rule of thumb is avoid Mopar products, tritons (a certain ford engine found in ford trucks for two decades), be careful around gm products with the 4l60e, and avoid anything with rust
I was joking a bit about them making a million of them. But apparently it's true.
it's appealing because it's within what i'll be able to afford (under 3k preferably) and i've been told it's a reliable model
They made closer to 1.5m I think
Yep
Fair enough.
And that's not even including the earlier crown vics
Not to mention that they were also used as a taxi.
I only ask because a 2015-2017 interceptor isn't much more at about 4 grand.
that's why they looked familiar lmao
there isn't one near me either
i want a car within 50 miles of me so yeah
Oof
Oh, that's not very far.
I also tell people that know me to not do what I do when they ask what cars to buy
i know
i'm reliant on my parents because i'm 17 and don't have a license (I'm working on it, don't worry)
If you searched farther, is buying a vehicle and driving it back out of the question?
I'm sure that they would be more than happy to drive you up towards 100 miles if it meant that you got a better car.
it probably would be, but like i said, my parents set a limit of 50 miles
Oh, dang.
perhaps
i can ask about it
Well, that kinda sucks.
They were the ones who set the limit in the first place.
I would check around up to 100 miles, either way. And just ask about it.
You could also find stuff that's in the 60 mile range away from you, which might suit you.
alright, sounds good
i'm really excited to own a car
When I was looking for my truck I was prepared to drive all the way down to Tennessee to look at a couple
i think that the freedom it'll present is worth the excitement
I've learned car sales can be a regional thing. What might be popular and expensive where you live may go for peanuts in the next city over.
Land of the free.
Where you aren't free unless you have your own vehicle.
Yep
let me look within 100 milex
Stuff will sell for two or three times more where I live than it does just over the border in Indiana
Like how ford trucks are worth more in my town than down south of me.
It's pretty common to float titles and resell cars from Indiana here
There's a lot of exotics leaving my province in a similar way.
I would be down for the town car instead of the interceptor.
I'd avoid it.
alright
Unless it's got maintenance records.
Isn't that Daimler era mercedes
I saw one crashed into a crash barrier a few days ago. Whops.
Also that dealer looks like a buy here pay here kind of lot
it does, it said it's been in for maintenance 29 times
Dealers like that automatically sketch me out
Land Rover 💀
Can't say I'm surprised
German cars can be hit-or-miss. I generally like German cars from around that time.
The E Class W211's interior was pretty decent in my eyes.
rip
I can't speak much for mercedes but audis from that era are decent if you get a 1.8t
The v6s are hard to work on
Not particularly unreliable but very much shoved into the car
Except for the 2.7tt
Those are not reliable most of the time
something like this?
Early 2000s bmw is not good
Anything that's getting up there in age is tough to recommend.
i don't want a bmw
unfortunately my price range brings me to the 90s to early 2000s
Yeah those tend to be decent if you can get one that isn't completely clapped out
As someone with a BMW from that era. lolwhops.
Bumdubyuh
Which is completely understandable.
Over half of those reports are gust reregistrtions.
Also what are you using to look for cars
What really concerns me is that this car has been offered for sale for over 8 months.
It could have been serviced 30 times. Or changed owner just as many times.
a website called carsforsale
Facebook marketplace is actually legit.
The dealership provides Carfax for the vehicle.
Cars that cheap at dealers are usually that cheap for a reason
i have, but not in a while
i'll look again
I bought my E46 for like $6,000 back when I got it.
I saw the ad for my f350 on marketplace
Seems to be the right price for needing a timing belt /water pump replacement.
It's honestly best to look for people who just need to get rid of their car.
Dealers always need to make a profit.
Exactly
Also another reason I would avoid audi v6s is because the timing belt requires the removal of the front clip of the car
The 1.8t isn't nearly as bad to work on
And it's a pretty stout engine
That's almost every VW group vehicle after 1991.
I'm pretty sure with the Audi V10, you have to pull the transmission out of the car to get at the timing chains
what about this 2005 honda civic lx coupe?
Nearly every maintenance procedure on my RS4 began with "service position"
I'd drive it.
It doesn't seem too bad
Banging
Rust is a pretty big thing on those though so just watch out for that
Appears to be some from that picture. But hard to tell overall.
Seeing as you're in Minnesota, see if you can find an AWD element.
Those elements kick ass.
I don't know if this is just a Japanese car thing but I've seen some cars that look fine on the outside but the structure is just completely rotten on
One good tip that I have, is just get something that has somewhat fresh tires.
And came with K24 or K20.
Yes
And if they are of a more premium brand, then you will know that they took decent care of the car.
Tires are expensive if you have to replace them
The VR6 is fun. But could be a disaster.
Sometimes Craigslist also has stuff
But as you said, you weren't that much of a hurry to get one. So you can just look around at your options for now.
does craigslist have a website? every time i try it's always an advertising company
true
My advice to you as a first time car buyer is: if you want to enjoy cars as a hobby, find a car that's cheap and easy to work on and learn form that experience before getting into more specialised vehicles.
To that regard, my rule of thumb is if you buy a car for a price, can you replace that car within a year for the same amount?
Also like was being said before
If you aren't in a hurry then don't jump the gun on buying a car
It'll burn you
^
yeah i know
I bought my f150 out of excitement and overlooked a lot of problems that made me sell the truck less than a year later for a decent loss
Wait for the old lady down the street to sell her mazda 626 with 50k on the odo for $600
i'm more just wanting to see what i can expect for the money i'd be spending
Buy a car that's from the same region as where you're from, is a good tip. Also.
A "good first car" is subjective. You have to learn what your subjectivity is first.
In other words, don't buy a rusted out pile of shit if you live where there is no rust
true
Very true. Often less = More.
The fewer stuff to go wrong, the better.
i just want something reliable to be honest
Also subjective.
That Crown Vic is probably up there.
I've seen 300k BMW's in better shape than 40k Honda's.
something that'll get me from point a to point b without dying on me
My car has been reliable in my eyes.
Had to replace the alternator and battery. Which I did myself.
Replaced a couple of bushings, shocks and springs, too.
Which cost a whole lot more.
Thankfully my old boss paid for the labor of changing the shocks and springs.

Oh, man. So many horror stories of people buying a used car from a dealership, taken it to a mechanic's shop. And it was basically done for.
Vehicle runs rough. It shut off while driving. Customer States it overheated. What could it be? In this video I didn't pinpoint the problem but I definitely found a symptom! It's DONE!
When your car turns into a Yoohoo maker.
Yeah my truck had plenty of stuff that wasn't disclosed but I caught almost all of it and had the price adjusted accordingly
I think I scared the salesman so I got a half decent deal on it
You can really haggle down prices sometimes.
If you can spot faults with anything that you buy, that wasn't disclosed beforehand. That's where you can really haggle.
A friend of mine almost bought a Lancer that got rear-ended when the dealer said it was never in an accident.
The body shop did a horrible job with it too. The rear bumper cover didn't fit properly, so they just basically bent the tips of it in to make it fit.
To top it all off, the thing was a rust bucket that was on its last legs.
So instead, my friend bought a Sentra that developed either valve flutter or rod knock after 1000km since purchase.
I haven't had a good look at it yet, but the spark plugs were all new and not covered in carbon. Could be coils tbh
But it's not throwing a check engine light.
What was funky with my car. Is that the alternator went bad, but it never really threw a light for it.
What it would do, was that it would throw heaps of voltage at the car as I went above 3,000 rpm.
Up towards 18V. Which generally isn't a good idea.
It would overcharge my light bulbs and everything. First time it happened, then it blew both my low and high beam.
found a 2001 ford mustang

I'm seeing a lot of evidence of a front-end collision.
V6 or V8

Motorcycles engines in cars is rad.
there's a guy local to me that makes swap kits for hyabusa engines.
V6. I’m not gonna buy it because I don’t want a mustang lmao
Yeah, You wouldn't really want a V6 Mustang to begin with
It’s like that front and back

Would have a field day pulling that thing apart to see how botched the repairs are
Yeah it reminds me of the people who will buy the base trim Camaros to look cool until the person who sees it realizes it’s a base model
Well, I'm off to look at Copart
I have no idea
The car is exactly in the condition I got it in from the dealership
its okay i found the wheel type
405m
this one
Because I have no idea what work was done to the engine specifically
Aside from obvious stuff
Like this totally factory cold air intake :^)
Oh fuck they’re expensive
I should probably get the one wheel with curb rash repaired considering their price
The local 81 strike again!
reminds me of the car that my tuner came off of
rear ended and then hit the car in front of it
Ohh, its a GT as well
fun fact
Probably had the 5.0 Coyote
whoever bought that car got a free bama tune
4.6
damn
5.0 came out in 2011
and the mustang didn't get it until 2012 if i remember right
nvm
it was 2011
and now it's on a diesel truck one year newer than it
and no offense to the old owner
but it does a lot more on the truck than it did on his mustang
0 miles (Not actual)
Heh
Gee, I wonder why.....
For Ford. Check the Jaguar 5.0 V8 🤫
Isn't that a ford 5.0 block and some ford parts that jaguar cobbled together in combination with their own parts or something like that?
Other way around, jaguar designed the coyote while under Ford ownership, started using it officially in 2009, Ford started in 2011, the block is a 5.0L coyote block heads are different but very similar. both had the same issues with timing
ah
Jaguar is removing the V8 from it's line up, and land rover is moving to the 4.4L BMW V8
2024 MY is the last gasoline powered sports car we will be producing sadly. And jaguar is moving to an electric/hybrid line up moving forward
I've been having a really hard time picking a color for my MR2 as it's being resprayed in the next few weeks and I think I've finally settled
I was driving my delso and someone at the gas station told me "nice mr2"
fucked mines up today
So how's maintenance on it?
no
They are fine as long as you do the maintenance yourself my brother has hade few from the 1999-2009 without any major issue that he didn't expect.
They still scare me though
Knowing that I have one of the somewhat reliable German cars from the era
Most have the same issues as any other car from the same time.
And you ideally want to look up any common faults for your specific car.
Yeah that's what my brother did with the BMW he used to have he always bought them for under market value fixed the common issue and them for around 1-3k$ more then he bought them for. The only "major" issue he have hade was the ABS fault on he last BMW e91.
Which could just be a speed sensor
Mid case would be the sensor ring.
Worse case being a bad module.
If I remember correctly one of the ABS modules that was faulty. And it was during winter to which isn't optimal in RWD BMW to not have any TC control or ABS.
I don't know what you're talking about (:
Boys what wheel covers would you guys opt for if the car was blue? https://imgur.com/a/DNzkZI5
I hate the silver of the stock ones, looking to grab something while I decide if I wanna buy a set of 20"
If PC gaming cases were a car:
rip how
Rubbed it against a wall when trying to park on a tight spot
Ouch.
@sleek leaf you own any car?
Looks like they haven't posted anything in the server yet?
Well. Car is good for another year now.
Passed the check-up inspection.
Bronze TE37s
Tbh. The smaller rims for Tesla look (and perform) better.
18 inches or bust for the Model Y.
I need to get a different tune for my truck
Those don't really fit on the Model Y. Honestly.
When I just floor it from a dead stop it SMOKES before I hit boost
Well, that's like, your option, man.
That's a bummer.
I don't tune my truck to roll coal intentionally and I don't want to seem like that kind of person
I wish sct would allow you to create your own tunes without paying for the stupid expensive software
Hopefully it will be cheap enough to sort out.
But oh well I guess I'll just pay $100 and get another tune
And I believe none of the Tesla models fit the TE37.
It's just the canned tune that I'm using has a bit too much fuel down low
Once it hits boost it's perfect though
At least more fuel is better than too little fuel.
Hi Tesla Motors Club community,

Just doesn't look right in my eyes.
Japanese cars fit them the best.
It's only been a few months since I got my job, but I now dream of rod bearings.
Please send help
I'm sorry.
But it's terminal.
It is.
Are they round? GOOD ENOUGH!"
Those bearings look real rough.
Thing is i dont want bigger than 14" which limits my alloy options
They wear on the cap side first, then as they heat up they expand and start wearing all over.
That and steelies r cool
Eventually, they either spin or get extruded.
Seizing the engine and throwing a rod.
Steelies are great because they're cheap as dirt.
I don't like the way they look, though.
Biggest I want for my car is what I currently got for my summers. 17 inches.
Best I can do is $480 CAD for a set.
$4k+ for a set of Volk's for an E46
I love how everyone here complains about road condition then buys a car with low pros
I just don't like the thinner profile tires on my 15 inch rims.
I quite literally have the fastest car in town, with 50hp
Running 225 square is good enough for me.
I upgraded to 175's
That's a funny thing, actually. The ID Buzz is running a staggered setup.
Front bigger?
Nope. Rear is.
Are they rwd
They are.
