Only thing I can think of is somehow it's losing CAN bus signal

But losing that signal shouldn't make the ecu reset itself completely

In non-enthusiast boring consumer news

#

man, all the 3 row crossover releases lately have been killer

#

Pilot, CX-90, Atlas and Grand Highlander all look great

#

And the Telluride refresh

#

Which makes me even more surprised that there aren't many 3 row entries in the electric vehicle segment

#

This is clearly something the brands are investing in

civic spoke
#

All massive Toyota SUV's are pretty great. tbh

#

But they are just dang expensive.

#

And really. As fun as it is to check out enthusiast cars. What people are really driving are the mundane vehicles.

eager grove
#

There are surprisingly few even hybrid options in the segmenet, which is a shame as well

#

Kia/Hyundai should really put a hybrid in the Telluride/Pallisade for sure

eager grove
civic spoke
#

#Vanlife

#

I'm just thinking that hybrid options are making heavy heavies even heavier.

#

But really, PHEV's are great.

eager grove
#

Chrysler have a PHEV in a minivan

#

Like I just don't know how people are justifying buying 22mpgUS vehicles in that segment

civic spoke
#

I'm thinking about VW right now. And I believe they have some PHEV options.

eager grove

eager grove

could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure

civic spoke
#

They don't. Just the Passat that I can see here.

eager grove
#

Passats and Golfs have had them

#

WisH they'd put it in the Touran somehow

civic spoke
#

The Touran is a pretty good size, tbh

#

Getting up there in age, though. So they will probably come out with a new generation soon.

#

If at all.

eager grove
#

Nah, they're ditching it

#

so annoying! It's such a good car!

eager grove
civic spoke
#

Has the old generation of VW's interior, too. Which is much nicer than the current generation.

eager grove
#

Basically the same size as a Tiguan with buckets more interior volume - and three individual seats in the middle row.

They'll put out a seven seater ID buzz but it's not the same

civic spoke
#

The Buzz is a tiny car compared to the Touran.

eager grove
#

The Buzz is way bigger

civic spoke
#

It is? I wouldn't say so. Maybe feels big inside.

eager grove
#

it's 20cm longer and 10cm wider

civic spoke
#

Dang, that much?

#

Maybe so.

#

Considering that the front is much flatter than the Touran, and floor ought to be flat.

#

I... Just don't like the current generation of the infotainment that VW are using.

#

Probably brilliant to own and drive. Just want less from the infotainment of modern cars.

#

The Buzz comes with staggered tired LUL

#

235 front, 255 rear. Regardless if you go with 18 or 19 inch rims. The 20/21 inchers come with 265 rears.

I'm due for a bit inheritance soon -- seriously considering getting a Touran

#

I sort of want an Arteon because you can pick one up for the same ish money, and they're nicer inside, faster and cooler

#

but the practicality of the Touran is pretty much unmatched

#

There was a high milage new shape touran on sale for like £11000 a few months ago, gutted to have missed out on it

#

There is an Arteon PHEV as well

#

But I'm almost certain it's an ex-taxi, and I can't check the history because I can't see the licence plate

It's a really nice spec though, and apparently has a VW service history

My advice to you as a first time car buyer is: if you want to enjoy cars as a hobby, find a car that's cheap and easy to work on and learn form that experience before getting into more specialised vehicles.

To that regard, my rule of thumb is if you buy a car for a price, can you replace that car within a year for the same amount?

eternal cedar
#

A friend of mine almost bought a Lancer that got rear-ended when the dealer said it was never in an accident.

#

The body shop did a horrible job with it too. The rear bumper cover didn't fit properly, so they just basically bent the tips of it in to make it fit.

#

To top it all off, the thing was a rust bucket that was on its last legs.

#

So instead, my friend bought a Sentra that developed either valve flutter or rod knock after 1000km since purchase.

#

I haven't had a good look at it yet, but the spark plugs were all new and not covered in carbon. Could be coils tbh

#

But it's not throwing a check engine light.

civic spoke
#

What was funky with my car. Is that the alternator went bad, but it never really threw a light for it.

#

What it would do, was that it would throw heaps of voltage at the car as I went above 3,000 rpm.

#

Up towards 18V. Which generally isn't a good idea.
