I only know the internal product code, unfortunately.

Yikes. Reminds me of the rebuild on my 2.4L kia engine when the balancing assembly died. Kicked out metal shavings and one got caught under the bearing in cylinder 2 (I think). Chewed it out. We polished the bearing surfaces on the crank a couple thousandths and got a thicker bearing kit, as well as an updated balancing assembly. Runs like new.

To be fair on the Bugatti. Those things are pretty dang overbuilt.

brittle totem

In my opinion the Bugatti chiron is just a disappointing car overall like with the recourses that VAG has the couldn't like come up with something new. And not just a heavy car with a huge engine.

plucky flame
#

That W16 has been around for how long now

#

Its in all their cars

#

Meanwhile you can get a hybrid that can do 300 more hp with a 3 cylinder.

dense shard

Bugatti's only real cultural claim to fame is having an overpowered car that goes fast.

plucky flame
#

The 2005 ford gt won speed though

dense shard
#

It also had an engine out of a truck.

plucky flame
#

Not the one that goes 310

dense shard
#

That wasn't factory?

#

You can always pay someone large amounts of money to make something really fast. It won't be a Veyron or Chiron.

#

I honestly wish Bugatti would go back to their roots, and just make absolutely drop dead gorgeous luxury coupes again.

#

Make a modern day Type 57

plucky flame

brittle totem
# plucky flame The 2005 ford gt won speed though

Well not for a production car in its stock configuration so not a official record. Didn't the Bugatti Chiron 300+ got disqualified too because the used a pre production car with a stripped interior and a "ECU tune", So officially the Agera RS is still the car with highest official top speed.

dense shard
#

for now, my understanding is Bugatti is more or less stepping down from trying to build something faster.

plucky flame

#

Thats the point

dense shard
#

Koenigsegg's engineering is a joy to behold.

plucky flame
#

Its not actually a new car

dense shard
#

so?

plucky flame
#

So why should it be treated as something special

dense shard
#

Because it is?

plucky flame
#

You dont see people shitting themselves when a new toyota 4runner body comes out

#

So why should a half new supercar be any different

dense shard
#

It's a limited production version based on a limited production car that uses unique engine, drivetrain, and styling.

#

Because a Toyota 4Runner isn't a comparable product to an exotic car?

plucky flame
#

They literally make it less unique by reusing it over and over

night current
dense shard
#

But people did shit themselves over the Corolla GR.

#

It's just a warmed over Corolla... so y'know... mileage may vary.

plucky flame
dense shard
#

By what metric are you going on?

night current
#

^

dense shard
#

Bugatti is a pure exercise in passion and flex. All super cars are.

night current
#

I don't see physical hand made products in your average car....

plucky flame

They dont need to be hand made

dense shard
#

They have no practical reason to exist.

#

But they are.

night current

#

That is passion

dense shard

It's certainly not efficient. lol

plucky flame

Bugatti is simply becoming the new ferrari and lamborghini. It just took them longer to get there.

plucky flame

dense shard

plucky flame

dense shard

#

By your logic the best car ever is going to be a Toyota 4Runner or Wrangler.

plucky flame

Those never change

#

You arent paying attention to all the criteria

civic spoke

That's not even close to what I'm saying.

dense shard

What are your criteria.

#

Cause right now you just shitting on everything.

brittle totem
plucky flame
#

It has to have a koenigsegg badge on it

dense shard
#

But Koenigsegg also just carries platforms over.

#

Their first car was in production for something like... 15 years?

#

Nevermind their styling has been fairly... similar over the years.

plucky flame
#

At least it was the same car and not rebadges

dense shard
#

So is a Jeep Wrangler?

#

And you can make it special with the 392

brittle totem
plucky flame
#

Oh but thats not a supercar so it cant be a fair comparison

dense shard
#

I know, but I thought same car/platform bad.

#

Super truck, call it what you want.

#

It's a special experience with no practical applications.

plucky flame
#

Its an overpriced jimny

dense shard
#

And a Koenigsegg is just an overpriced Honda Beat.

plucky flame
#

That doesnt have a single honda part in it

#

dense shard
#

And Jeep doesn't have a single Suzuki part in it?

#

But go on.

plucky flame

Jimny is the better car

#

Checkmate

dense shard
#

And both are better than a Koenigsegg.

brittle totem
#

Does anyone now the revenue and profit numbers for Bugatti ?

dense shard
civic spoke
#

They wouldn't need to do the same type of R&D for the engine and everything, though.

dense shard
#

Carry over drivetrain.

#

I imagine the R&D costs aren't that high for limited products, and their profit margins are probably insane considering each car is going to be bespoke and loaded down with a few dozen options.

#

MSRP of a million, but no one who buys these things does it without options.

civic spoke
#

The Bugatti cars really aren't THAT bespoke, though. Sure they have a lot of high priced options, but it still costs a lot for Bugatti as well.

brittle totem
#

That's sad then because somehow Koenigsegg managed to have at least a 10% profit margin with barely no help from any other company. Here is the 2021 numbers form Koenigsegg revenue 708 milion sek = 67,2 milion $ Profit 82 milion sek = 7,8 milion $ source: https://www.merinfo.se/foretag/Koenigsegg-Automotive-AB-5565748018/2k1panm-fv1r

dense shard

brittle totem

From what I can find, then they lost a whole lot of money on each Veyron. But they didn't lose money on the Chirons.

dense shard

brittle totem

#

The one from 2010 is at a bit over 900k km is that much for a 13 year old truck ?

civic spoke
#

All depends on what kind of a truck it is. But doesn't sound out of the ordinary.

#

For example, with a dump truck. Then I would consider 60,000 km's a year a fair bit. But that's what I have managed to do.

And the B-series is the Ranger

civic girder

We practically got the Hilux back in the 80s and early 90s, very similar trucks.

In the 80s American trucks were basically all good

#

Question about car servicing
My work car, a 2011 navara D40 was due for a service back on December 1st (I had a different car back then) but wasn't serviced presumably because the service sticker said 'december 1 or 339k km' (car is currently at 334k km).
Is it worth booking a service, or wait for 339k km? Car was in the shop back in August for new clockspring & alternator

plucky flame
#

Me personally

#

If i wasnt strapped

#

I would go at the sooner date

#

Be it whenever i drove x miles or one the day it says

empty gulch
plucky flame
#

Oh i see

#

Yeah definitely go then cause why not

#

Im sure your company would rather pay for a bit more oil than a new engine or what have you

empty gulch
#

Well because it's a D40 it's got a cracked turbo exhaust, which service centre doesn't wanna fix because of the high cost lol so it's close enough to a new engine

#

They quoted $5k, when car is valued at around $10k

wispy cloak
#

that is insane

empty gulch
#

'Turbo exhaust' was their words

#

Also that's 5k aud

#

3.4k us

wispy cloak
#

$3400 still sounds fairly high to replace a factory turbo

#

And I would assume that it is the turbo and not the exhaust manifold because exhaust manifolds are fairly inexpensive

orchid swift
#

no factory parts are always expensive, that sounds about right. even stock exhausts are like 6k

#

and they probably mean the exhaust housing for the turbo is cracked, which is usually the failure point since that always goes through a rediculous amount of heat cycles

wispy cloak
#

That doesn't mean that the voltage at the ecu is correct and not spiking

bright surge
#

Could be

wispy cloak
#

To me it sounds like there's some other underlying problem

bright surge
#

The ecu location is right underneath the cowl on the passenger side, I believe it's getting water in the wires and harness or inside the module every time it rains

#

And there's no way to seal it off, it just kinda hangs in the open

#

I think Chrysler changed the connector design in 2009 so there's only really issues with the 2005 to 2008 models
