the old brake line fastener is totally destroyed and has threads that are gone so i can't test it either

Could have been the case? Sounds fairly early for the chain to give out. Unless it has a bunch of miles on it.

copper oyster

misty mantle

That may be what killed it

copper oyster

The people who drove it before me were really gentle with it. I was easily the ax murderer. Ironically, the engine stalled when I was making a gentle right at a stop sign like a normal person

misty mantle
#

Not supposed to rev an engine while its cold

copper oyster
#

Lol the first thing i did was put in gas because i thought i was empty. The thing in the fuel pump was stuck so i never knew how much is in tank

misty mantle
#

You don't need to know how much gas you have

copper oyster

But it was weird because i regularly filled her when should be at least half tank

copper oyster
misty mantle
#

If its still running, it still has gas amiright

copper oyster
#

Lmao was about to say that's the other indicator you always have. But either way, turned out it's some mechanical break in the engine. I even heard some jamming when it was turning over

misty mantle
#

On a serious note, I have a feeling it was a combination of your driving style and redlining it as soon as it starts in really cold weather

copper oyster
#

Well thats the thing I wanted an opinion on:

#

Since i bought it, it started up perfectly unless it was actually still hot

#

So like -20C amazingly no problems ever. Starts up like always. But the hotter it was, the more it struggled. Sometimes it would fail and i'd turn on/off ignition basically

misty mantle
#

Hot as in....

copper oyster
#

I try to start within an hourish of killing the engine last time

misty mantle
#

Why do I have a feeling it didn't have any coolant in it

copper oyster
#

Here's the thing: at the end game I realized that it was slowly improving overall. On top of that, it seemed to correlate with how full tank was. I wrote it off as another fuel pump issue.

#

We filled coolant properly. It didn't make a difference.

#

Yeah I mean if it's completely drained of oil where there's not even a bit at the bottom; the other thing is no coolant. Those are probably the fastest ways to a dead engine. I checked both when it died

misty mantle
#

either way, that motor is likely dead

copper oyster
#

Yup. One other motor isn't dead though and that's the hydraulic pump lol. I made sure of that.

copper oyster
#

I mean dude the car itself was pretty bad too. All the power window buttons falling off. Not a single knob left in ac vents (all were dangling inside and preventing the remaining left/right function)

misty mantle
#

Car was basically destined for the junkyard, then

copper oyster
#

DVD player under back seat was dead. That small tv had that LCD lines visible so I knew that it also died. It was also dangling so if I'd still had this car, I was thankful that TV bolts off directly

#

And not like accessed through cutting a hole in carpet and disconnecting a passenger seat.

#

Airmatic was insanely cool though. Sadly, probably the seals or rings and whatnot were bad. Front passenger side it would randomly go PTSSST and lose all air... but it still held it

#

Driver side, I couldn't keep it raised from the looks of it. The compressor never turned off. So I'd have a whirring sound

#

Apparently, that's bad anyways. A mech told me not to keep it running otherwise it dies quickly. But there was something more afoot with that side. That hydraulic was clearly cursed

#

During christmas my buddy came back from school and I tried to show him. I ran inside to get something and as soon as I came back, the thing insta-pumped itself somehow like a lowrider from 0 to 100

#

We moved away from it lmao. Does anyone know actually how much potential danger we were in lmao

#

He was standing right beside that wheel too

charred depot
copper oyster
#

Pneumatic shock

charred depot
#

yeah not hydraulic

copper oyster
#

Idk it had airmatic which is air shocks that get air pumped into them or they release it. In my case, the air didn't always release when even the car wanted it

charred depot
#

hydraulic

copper oyster
#

On the passenger side, it would spit out like every half hour even while driving but it would pump it back up. Somehow it was my side that sagged down at times.

#

But I had a cool bug not feature when I drove with the airmatic raised. It would literally go into a resonance and start bouncing like a low rider over like 15kph

#

I'd turn it off when it felt like the bouncing was getting too strong. Never tried just letting it happen. After that winter incident, I realized that it could easily lift the wheels off the ground even. But what on earth even happened there. Like if anyone reading this is into mech eng, is there a logical explanation?

#

It sounded like it was pumping but nothing was going up. Then, at one point it instantaneously jumped like it had unreal grav boots

#

Regardless, one way or another, replacing engine in it is not an option. It was the only good part in the car from the looks of it (until I put it into my hyperchamber but it does the opposite). This is assuming the price of replacing engine can even beat the price of the car in the first place

#

Honestly, I'll ask if the engine was ever rebuilt. If it hasn't, I'll actually feel really bad. It's an 07 engine that never died and I wrecked it in ~3mo.

In Russia, there is literally a scam where they steal your license plates and ask to transfer money if you wanted to 'get it back'. The sum is a thousand or so under the price to replace them

#

But sometimes, I heard that the scam intensifies when you go to the location and they left just one plate. Then you have to pay the same amount for the second plate. At this point, it's sunken cost without the fallacy lmao

sinful tendon
copper oyster

The best ones are with a crank I heard. Some mercedes used to have it? Basically, you can just turn the engine yourself and boom... boomboomboomboom

sinful tendon

"Sort of" because I suppose the modern one have electronically-driven injection of some sort rather than old-school mechanical injection.

copper oyster

Honestly, the one thing oil is supposed to do is not burn up and the one place it's meant to remain is inside of the engine

#

And yet it always leaks and burns up. This makes oil changes possible for everybody without a mechanic though. Blessed.

#

It's quite sad that the only reason why I couldn't secure a mufflers heat shield was clearance; the only people with pits are mechanics

copper oyster

copper oyster

charred depot

most stuff can be done with jackstands, lift is just a convenience primarily for welding

copper oyster

Like just to use your pit not long ago I would beg you. Jacks of any kind I wouldn't want to go under there

charred depot
#

jack stands

copper oyster
#

The only remaining option was the airmatic which hopefully won't let air out or repeatedly start lowrider bouncing on my ribcage lol

#

Like the x shaped ones or the track?

sinful tendon
#

No you're thinking of jacks, jack STANDS are a different thing

#

They lock up good and don't tip over, they are exactly for when you want to go underneath without getting crushed

charred depot
sinful tendon
#

They don't provide lift, you need the jack to prop the car up, and the stand to safely keep it there

charred depot
#

what you use to lift it is irrelevant

copper oyster
#

I mean I guess. The whole thing is apparently how 'you should never go under a car with that one certain type of jack'

charred depot
#

my BX and Xantia can jack itself up but you wont go under it without stands

#

no type of jack is really safe

copper oyster
#

I think it's the one with the long handle you press down and it lowers instantly lol. The danger is you accidentally kicked it

sinful tendon
#

Freaking French cars et leurs sophistication, aaaah, je les aime.

copper oyster
charred depot
#

or just use a jack and put it onto stands

copper oyster
#

The one place your car doesn't have any more gravitational potential than what it started with 😛

charred depot
#

Only jack that is really safe is like my yellow jacking beam which has mechanical locks even if the hydraulic ram fails

copper oyster
#

The only danger I can think of is if suspension/shocks/wheels somehow fail instantaneously your arm would get crushed if it's between the ground and whatever the car fell on. Still, this would beg the question of what your hand was doing there in the first place

charred depot
#

Having the lift / pit is a luxury but certainly not a necessity

copper oyster
charred depot
#

no

#

normal jacks have no secondary lock

copper oyster
#

With a big hydraulic, in addition to not getting crushed, you also have to survive the explosion

charred depot
#

nah you're dizzy

#

the cable has snapped on my lift and you know what happened

#

nothing, because it is designed that way

#

if the seal goes on the yellow hydraulic jacking beam it has a mechanical lock so it wont go down

sinful tendon
#

They have locks along their travel, you can hear them click real loud as you jack it up.When you reach desired height you typically lower it on the closest lock down and you're very safe.

copper oyster
#

Dude I once blew out a pneumatic door stopper in my old apartment by pulling the door with just one hand. I hated the way it closed slowly so I'd always force it. One day, it popped. If they're designed to pop at the end where that flat recessed part is, it definitely didn't explode as it should

#

I looked on the other side of the door, it was literally a chip missing from the side of it. I guess luckily I was on the other side. Afterwards, I did discover though how there was not a single piece in sight. All of it was in small bits inside of the cylinder

sinful tendon
#

But that's totally different. Besides, hydraulic jacks have hoses, which should be the weak point by far, and if the gentle humming of the hydraullic pump on my friend's jack is any reference, this thing doesn't have the power to pierce your skin with a hydraulic jet or break steel and turn the pieces into projectiles...

copper oyster
#

I guess if I was on its side, I'd have to thank the implosion for not getting shrapnel'd.

#

Actually, for hydraulics, the mention of hoses did remind me of seeing a retired Russian fighter jet in a museum

#

The first thing I asked was why isn't any of this soldered into position? It was landing gear in the position of not folded

sinful tendon
#

In the event of a fire in the room.

copper oyster
#

Ultimately, I was told that it's better not to touch any of it because somebody did in fact once 'fold' the landing gear in. Right before it folded them.

#

It's a lot of of joints and hydraulics that look like a terminator arm. But if I remember correctly, the idea is that it mechanically locks into positions

#

I guess one of those locks were actually a hydraulic somehow holding it in place still. Honestly, I'm not even sure if it's a malfunction or error. The landing gear down means it's still moving to some degree

#

Maybe they didn't put it in 'park'? KEKW

#

Like parking brake engage locks the landing gear fully

sinful tendon
copper oyster
#

The only stiff landing gear you can get away with is probably on ultralights and some slightly larger craft which are still 2 seater crop dusters

copper oyster
#

(Replace wrench with sickle obv)

#

Irl probably it's just called takeoff gear which is why you can eject it once you're in the air
