I managed to buy a chain of cars with power memory seats until I got married and share a car with my wife, now our cars are power without memory and manual 😆

Didn't Tesla just announce that they are going to keep lidar radar on their new cars ? I don't se the problem with acceleration boost being an "add on" most people wont need it don't want to spend the extra 2k to get it.

#

My dads Passat has electric lumber support on driver side but on the passenger side its manual adjustable. And my moms BMW doesn't have it all if i remember correctly it only optional extra that car doesn't have it has anything else that you could get on that model year.

And my brother old e92 330i hade electric seats with memory but not any lumber support a very weird combo.

# heavy condor I also don’t believe your “3500” number, unless unicef has gotten into the auto ...

then dont, as ive said youre being overcharged. I go to a local place who is reputable by other porsche owners. So its cheaper. For parts i go to FCP Euro, as math, suspension job cost 900$, brake job cost 1600$, waterpump and brakeline were done at the same time and was only a 600$ for laber + miniscule number for parts. i included a couple odd jobs to get 3500$ that had to be done such as battery replacement.

So your either a shit who does not actually Porsche, as from Pelican "a complete front suspension" in parts alone is 2K trying to be an internet tough guy, or you have a sweetheart deal at a shop as Ive bee driving Porsches for over 15 years close to getting out college and the repair work you have listed never would be that cheap even on a busted as 924. If it breaks. Or the fact that you lose your surroundings if you only look at the camera view.

The camera might only look straight behind you, where as you see more by using your mirrors, or by moving your head.

wraith rivet

what i do is use the camera until my drivers window is past the rear bumper of the cars parked next to me

feral reef

The only real advantage a backup cam has to me is to see how far I can go backwards. I have 0 aids so sometimes the distance is hard to judge when I can't see the bonnet of a car in the rear while parallel parking

stoic ledge

The worse thing are camera mirrors imho

#

They really mess you your depth of view

feral reef
#

Wel yeah, but knowing exactly how far back you can go makes everything else easier

#

And you can see small things on the ground

spark igloo

Meanwhile me who almost slammed into my garage wall going forward because my new car doesn’t have parking sensors

Which you can very easily miss with mirrors

charred depot
#

atleast they wont get smashed as is often on trucks

stoic ledge
# civic spoke

For trucks I think they're more useful, for cars not so much

feral reef
#

I also like that with cameras the perspective doesn’t change when you look into them from differents angles

civic spoke
stoic ledge
#

But I don't drive trucks so not sure if it's actually better

civic spoke
#

I haven't really tried it myself.

stoic ledge
#

But I could imagine you could get multiple views for it for certain situations

feral reef
#

I used camera mirrors in ETS2 😂

civic spoke
#

Heard from some that they got sick from them.

#

But that they got used to them.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah that's the change of depth

#

Can really mess you up

charred depot
#

one way to get a spare

stoic ledge
#

Looking through the windshield you focus on stuff 100m away

And then the mirror is 50cm away

#

Ah yeah I always need a spare mirror

civic spoke
#

What I would really like about them is the increased visibility. Since you don't have a huge mirror blocking your view.

#

So much can hide behind the mirrors of a truck.

stoic ledge
#

For trucks also a giant difference for airflow and fuel consumption

civic spoke
#

Yeah. Something you might not care about with cars.

#

But if you are saving 1% fuel from it. That can be a big deal.

stoic ledge
#

Well it's also important there, but has a smaller impact there then on trucks. On cars they're often better shaped, camera mirrors arent much smaller. And the screens and camera's also consume power. But on a truck they're massive rectangular panels

#

But yeah small things like that have a massive impact on a fleet

civic spoke
#

Oh, it's actually around 1%.

dense shard
#

dunno... replacing the two mirrors with cameras? Surface area should be a tiny fraction even on cars

civic spoke
#

Mercedes quotes 1.3% fuel savings.

stoic ledge
#

If a truck does 200k km/year, and you consume 30L/100km vs 29.5L/100km, that's a difference of 1000L/year

dense shard
#

And the power consumption if fairly minimal

#

half a mile to the gallon in a car that gets 30 mpg

stoic ledge
#

I think Hyundai or someone tested it and the difference was negligible

civic spoke
#

The bigger difference is probably just wind noise.

dense shard
#

Negligible difference here, negligible difference there

#

Suddenly you have a notable difference.

stoic ledge
#

Might've been negligible in the other way you expected

stoic ledge
dense shard
#

They were too cheap to implement it?

#

Wish Toyota had gone through the effort to use more aluminum in their cars

#

And put that extra kilogram of effort.

#

Civic is that much bigger, still weighs something like 100 pounds less than the Corolla.

#

100 pounds means your car is that tiny bit faster, tiny bit easier on gas, tiny bit lighter, and generally will require less energy to move

#

Honestly, I want to see the two Porsche people here fight it out over cost of repairs.

#

Cause one of them sounds like they went to a dealer. lol

civic spoke
#

We need to put modern cars on a diet.

dense shard
#

Absolutely agree.

#

For the cost, cars should weigh less.

#

3 years ago... fine. All steel construction and all that jazz. But now a Corolla is pushing 30k? Fuck cost cutting. Give me a car that has 30k worth of engineering that went in.

stoic ledge
#

Imagine getting a compact car for 30k

#

Lucky bastard

dense shard
#

Sounds like a European problem.

stoic ledge
dense shard
#

Now American.

civic spoke
#

The problem with cost is mainly that cars require more safety shizz.
Along with that the consumers expect all the bells and whistles.

dense shard
#

I got my Corolla for 23.5k.

charred depot
#

Bigger cars in general are more desired here now aswell for whatever reason

dense shard
#

The same exact car now starts at something like 25k.

#

No real changes beyond automatic is now standard/mandatory.

stoic ledge
#

Corolla starts here as €32695 which is 35k USD currently

civic spoke
stoic ledge
dense shard
#

I'm glad Toyota is still making a compact car

civic spoke
#

Look at the green house that the BMW E30 has and compare it to any modern car.

dense shard
#

And honestly modern compact cars are super fancy now. Compared to 10 years ago? Damn near luxury car features.

civic spoke
#

All of them coming with Bluetooth radio and everything.

dense shard
#

But Honda and Mazda somehow pushed what a compact car can be even farther.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah that's why I might be getting a base Astra as a company car ... Literally everything you'd ever need is already standard

feral reef
#

For Mercedes pretty much every generations the new feature on the last gen S gets passed down to the E and what was new on the E gets passed do to the C

dense shard
#

I'm fine with the safety features and tech.

stoic ledge
#

Base model already has heated seats, reversing cam, adaptive cruise, ergonomic seats, LED headlights, wireless AA/ACP

feral reef
#

And now we're at the point where the A class has almost all the fancy shit you could want

dense shard
#

I like my radar cruise control.

#

That changed roadtrips

stoic ledge
#

so when a car has adaptive cruise control, can you still make it "dumb" cruise control?

stoic ledge

Depends from the car

feral reef

stoic ledge

About the Astra, uncertain

I'm only sad that I can't spec a heated windshield on the base model

On January 2, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow area.
Search and Rescue, along with law enforcement from Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Utah State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service responded.
The driver, Kenneth Block, 55-year-old male out of Park City, Utah, was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope when the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Mr. Block was riding with a group but was alone when the accident occurred.

Fixing a dent on the body it’s expensive af. Its all 1 piece so you got to buy the whole side of the car to fix it.

#

Lots of cars being totaled because of minor crashes these days.

#

They just have so much electronics that aren't worth fixing.

#

And if they can fix it for a reasonable price. Then you can't find parts for months and months.

Yeah parts availability is also bad

I like the 05-9 S197's best body imo, and the 4.6 sounds the best. But isn't faster than the coyote motors, and aren't power friendly with upgrades. But they're fun to drive and good cruising cars

wraith rivet

It has the little motors inside of the headlight that moves them when you go around turns and stuff and you can see it cross cross when you turn them on

I'm not german, or from germany. But my german friend tells me it's illegal to do it yourself outside of a self serve dedicated carwash because of the "chemicals" and stuff in the products

#

So the self serve washes have tanks to capture everything I guess or you just have it done for you.
