Need some automotive help here my ls1 5.3 has a ticking noise or exaust manifold I don’t know can someone help me

misty mantle
#

Sounds like either a valve train noise or an exhaust leak

gloomy cove

I do have two broken exaust manifold bolts one on each side and it’s been driving me nuts but it only happens at 1800-2000 rpm no where else

I have kept it as well maintained as I can for a northern vehicle changing fluids and parts when needed with the exception of the exaust because it’s a pain to remove those broken bolts

You know what another big problem for the Tesla Semi, or any EV truck is?
If the tractor unit weighs that much more, which means less load, then you'll stack even more load in the front. It could be fairly easy going over the limit on the driving axle for EV trucks. At least for tractor units.

And cost as much as filling up your car with gas

civic spoke

Would you rather have enough to charge 15 cars at once overnight, or just one?

civic spoke
fathom socket
#

No one talks about this, but these batteries have much lower capacity, even after just a year.

misty mantle
#

EV batteries still age like normal car batteries

feral reef
#

As slow charging is generally better for batteries ?

fathom socket
#

Constantly plugging it in isn't good.

#

Just makes it break faster.

feral reef
#

Why is that?

fathom socket
#

Because that's how the batteries in those cars work.

#

(They're not great)

feral reef
#

That’s not a great answer, lol

#

“Just cuz”

fathom socket

Do you want me to literally explain how a battery works?

#

I'm doing push ups, it's 11:04 pm

#

I could explain it in a simpler way.

#

Go to your phones settings and check that battery capacity thing.

feral reef
#

I have quite extensive knowledge on how batteries work

fathom socket
#

Good.

#

Then you should know why that is bad for electric cars.

civic spoke
#

Batteries have a set number of cycles, more or less. Having it plugged in constantly isn't always a bad thing.
Charging to 100% all of the time, however, is.

#

Ideally you just want to charge it up to 80-something percent.

#

Slow charging is generally considered better than fast charging. I'm guessing mainly because of the temperatures?

fathom socket
burnt solstice
civic spoke

100% is 100%

burnt solstice

fathom socket
#

No way to make that less "harmfull"

#

Samsung has a feature that limits charges to 85%, which is useful

#

But that's on phones

burnt solstice
#

well not charging it at full bore for 30 minutes then just let it hang on charger for the rest of the night...

#

it charges slower overnight

fathom socket
#

No, that just increases your energy bill.

#

And everyone is supposed to get an electric car in this crisis that government caused.

civic spoke

#

i think i could get my license there after driving for 5 lessons lmao

civic spoke
#

Can't do a driving test in an F350 here. At least if you're just going with a B license. KEKW

#

Since an F350 requires at least a C1 license.

#

3,500 kg

wispy cloak
#

All you need to do to get your license at 16 is hold a permit for nine months, take a driver's ed class, have 5hrs behind the wheel with an instructor, and 50hrs behind the wheel with an adult

#

Then you do a written test and a behind the wheel test

burnt solstice
wispy cloak
#

Then you have a license where you can have a vehicle with a 16000lbs gvwr and tow another 10000lbs

wispy cloak
#

Also if you go to places like Texas or California there are a lot of unlicensed and uninsured drivers

civic spoke
#

I'm allowed to tow as much as I want. As long as I'm within the legal limits of everything.

wispy cloak

wispy cloak

Yeah everyone knows that already but its only the first year that degradation I noticeable after that the degradation % per year is very low. An example is this model s from 2013 with 350000km on it has only lost 11% from its original capacity and this specific car mostly charged at supercharger when it was new. So the degradation is higher then your average ev. https://youtu.be/4aTgscnmlR8?t=245

Not really if you limit it to like 50-60% for daily use and only charge it up to 80-100% for longer drives they should last for a good while and plugging it in every night at slow charger doesn't hurt the battery that much either.

and a extra £140 for the first 5 years if it is worth over £40k

#

I find it a bit of a meme that my classics pay £295/y but mega mile commuters made 2001 -2017 pay £30/y
