Our is from 2015 but the mmi system is actually quite good in it because it has the upgrade navigation system with the "big" wide screen system. But last year we got an android auto/carplay box so now we just just those system instead of the iDrive "bmw mmi" when we want to use navigation. But the inbuild navigation in our 2015 BMW is actually better then the one in dads 2021 Passat.

The dent in my bumper wasn't my fault it's from when my mom drove my car before it was mine

#

My girlfriend also scraped it once because there was another vehicle in the driveway and I had told her that if there's another vehicle in the driveway and she didn't have a lot of room to squeeze out, I'd rather her get closer to my car because I'd rather her scrape it than one of the newer, more expensive cars my family has

woven leaf

hmm rear wheel drive celica hmmm

#

Where is the 86-E pure electric?????????

#

Why are toyota and honda panicking?

#

They have known ICE engines for decades

#

and then suddenly Tesla take the stage

#

they try to go for hydrogen

#

and fail

#

now they are making battery electric ( at least honda!)

#

seems like they are affraid of change

#

going from ICE to Electric = 😳😳😳

#

this is a problem with Japanese companies

#

Japanese companies WILL NOT CHANGE .. unless they absolutely need to

#

this is in their culture

#

and now electric cars are appearing ... they are stuck!

#

They must avoid this change

#

because they all know ICE

#

and are affraid to turn to electric

#

unless forced 🤔

#

forced as in pressure from Tesla, BYD, and others

#

Honestly........... Honda and Toyota need to take on battery electric ASAP

#

they will dissapear otherwise

stoic ledge

stoic ledge

hmm ok

#

I would have assumed they would have founded their own tech, but maybe they were just too stuck on hydrogen fuel cells

#

they sent they $$ to the wrong industry

#

aka Fuel cells

#

(which is a fantastic idea for heavier vehicles like trains and buses )

#

..but for common cars, you cannot beat pure electric

wispy cloak
#

We still need the infrastructure

#

And the ability to recycle batteries

And mine lithium cleanly

woven leaf
#

all things Tesla can provide

#

well not sure about tesla + recycle

wispy cloak
#

Tesla can't provide any of that

#

Even if they could I wouldn't trust them at all

woven leaf

Tesla have a huge charging network which they are opening up to everyone

#

and Tesla are mining Lithium from local sources

wispy cloak

We can't provide the power to charge that many electric cars

#

Look at California and the mass blackouts

woven leaf
#

SOLARRRRRRRRRRRRRR

#

Tesla solar roofs, cheaper than non-solar roofs now

wispy cloak
#

We can't make that much energy with solar

#

Especially in places with less sun

woven leaf
#

umm California = lots of sun

wispy cloak
#

California can't generate power for the entire continental United States

woven leaf
#

hey we have nuclear fusion coming soon 🙂

#

pfft.... man plop enough solar panels......

#

wtf

#

how can california not have enough solar energy?

wispy cloak
#

Solar panels cost money

#

Where's the money coming from

woven leaf
#

pfft

#

panels are cheap now

#

way less than a decad ago

#

it's cheaper to make a solar power station than a super-costly nuclear station

wispy cloak
#

I think you're overestimating how much power we can generate with solar

#

Also where's the land come from

woven leaf
#

duuudeeee

#

Elon says if you cover just one small US state, it can power the whole country

wispy cloak
#

Elon is a nutcase

#

That would cost an ungodly amount of money

woven leaf

#

whaaaaaaa ... pfft how can making a new coal station be more costly than a solar station

#

SOLAR IS FREE

wispy cloak
#

How would you even be able to move that much power

woven leaf
#

sorry for CAPS lol

wispy cloak
#

Panels aren't free

#

Infrastructure isn't free

woven leaf
#

yeah but overall, solar and wind are 1% of mthe cost of Coal

wispy cloak
#

And what would you do on a cloudy day

woven leaf
#

the initial price may be expensive

#

but after a year, waaaaaaaaaaaaayy cheaper

#

cloudy day = battery backup

#

or wind

wispy cloak
#

Where are the batteries going to be stored

#

How would they pay for the batteries

woven leaf
#

on terra firma

#

earth

wispy cloak
#

There's just a lot of fundamental problems here

woven leaf
#

I shouldnt suggest f-earth lol

wispy cloak
#

Power companies aren't interested in taking such huge risks when what they're doing makes them money and is reliable

woven leaf
#

bob you seem to be very pro oil

#

do you work for Shell?

#

or BP?

wispy cloak
#

Because electric is not a viable solution in the near future

woven leaf
#

with enough solar it can be done

wispy cloak
#

No

#

It can't

woven leaf
#

pffffffftttttttttttt

#

if every house had solar

#

there would be no need fr coal

wispy cloak
#

But again

#

Who's paying for that

woven leaf
#

solar roofs are cheaper than normal roofs

#

that is a start

wispy cloak
#

No they aren't

woven leaf
#

yes they are!

wispy cloak
#

Who's installing them

woven leaf
#

Tesla solar roof is cheaper than a classical roof 100%

#

Tesla

#

do some googling my friend

wispy cloak
#

I can guarantee you that a solar roof still costs more than a regular roof

woven leaf
#

call Tesla, they will confirm 😋

wispy cloak
#

Because you're looking at the materials, the electrical required to do so, and the installation of the roof itself

stoic ledge
#

Also, returning to the grid is a problem, infrastructure can't cope on very sunny days

wispy cloak
#

And that still doesn't change the fact I would never buy a tesla product

#

The ceo is psychotic and the company uses proprietary bullshit

woven leaf
#

The battery collects the charge and accounts for low solar energy

#

you just need a battery big enough for that buffer

wispy cloak
#

But where does the money come from

#

And the manufacturing

#

And the resources

woven leaf
#

there is some maths lol

charred depot
#

Are you proposing that the solar roof pays for itself when you say they are "cheaper"

#

or are you delusional

stoic ledge
#

Except when the sun is shining most are at work so it can't charge the car.... And a massive battery in every house is also inefficiënt

Also, still won't cover for the energy required during winters

woven leaf
#

huh the cash comes from the customers wallet, they invest in the tech and maye be negative for a few years, but they will turn positive

#

after say 3-4 years

charred depot
#

mmm

wispy cloak
#

Also I can't imagine the wait times for a roof like that considering that my friend has been waiting two years for his starlink

charred depot
#

it will take atleast 7 years for a solar roof to pay for itself here

stoic ledge
#

With the current energy prices ROI of solar is ~2 years here, when we bought them it was ~7-8 years

charred depot
#

more likely 10

wispy cloak
stoic ledge
#

Also heavily depends on the electricity price

woven leaf
#

huh Tesla roofing is literally cheaper than normal roofing

wispy cloak
#

No it isn't

stoic ledge
#

No it's not

wispy cloak
#

I can guarantee that

woven leaf

prove it!

stoic ledge

you are in denial my friend

stoic ledge
#

How much is a Tesla roof? What's the Wp?

woven leaf

I'm no expert, you need to contact Tesla

charred depot

A normal roof will last atleast 50 years and im sure clay is cheaper than electronics

wispy cloak
#

Tar paper + shingles + regular roofers for a regular roof

woven leaf

I think plastic would last 10 times longer than clay lol

You lose more energy from the interconnects, they are less efficient because of the wrong angles, harder to replace broken units, more intrusive to install.

tepid wing

You must be a troll.

stoic ledge

Dude... call Tesla, they will telll you than solar roofing are actualy cheaper!!!!

tepid wing

You can't believe anything E*** says.

Better off with seperate panels

wispy cloak

tepid wing

Lies pump Tesla stock prices. ;-)

stoic ledge

Luckily they're going down

tepid wing

Though, people are starting to figure out he's all lies. (Finally)

wispy cloak

I can't wait until tesla inevitably goes bankrupt

tepid wing

SpaceX is doing poorly too, the way he's kept his companies afloat it should go down like dominos.

WHAT?

omg...

#

why bad company?

tepid wing
#

It is a bad company.

woven leaf
#

I am distressed...

#

why??????????

#

Elon is trying to save the planet, to lower ICE emissions by introducing electric vehicles

tepid wing
#

Constant lies, poor product quality, broken promises, anti-repair, remote feature deactivation, vendor lock in.

#

No he's not.

woven leaf
#

He has probably already lowered emission by 25%

#

HUGE!!!!

#

It could literally save the planet!!!

tepid wing
#

No, he hasn't.

woven leaf
#

pfft....

#

omg

tepid wing

You're just a troll at this point.

woven leaf

I'm not a troll, just stating the facts

stoic ledge

Our lord and savior Elon 🙏 👼

woven leaf
#

just trying to preserve the earth...

wispy cloak
#

Lithium mining is just redirecting the emissions

woven leaf
#

Earth could turn into Mars

wispy cloak
#

And overall the emissions are worse

tepid wing
#

1.446 billion cars versus 0.002 billion. That's 1% if we ignore the diesel powered super chargers and assume every car they ever made is still on the road.

woven leaf

We need an Elon to reverse the Earth-To-Mars-Process

tepid wing

And cars aren't the only polluters.

wispy cloak

You can't run something so combustible in a turbine

stoic ledge

Just use electric turbines gg ez

wispy cloak

And cargo ships use bunker oil

woven leaf
#

electric turbines? hmm

tepid wing
#

One of the best ways we know of getting hydrogen is by using fossil fuels.

wispy cloak
#

I made hydrogen in my garage once and almost blew myself up

#

Does that count

woven leaf
#

why dont large tanker ships have ahuge solar arrays and use electric motors????

tepid wing
#

That scale is far too small.

wispy cloak
#

That's not even possible

woven leaf
#

hmmmmmmmmmm

wispy cloak
#

They don't have anywhere to put solar panels

woven leaf
#

There is a lot of surface area on a ship

tepid wing
#

Because of energy density and reliability.

woven leaf
#

hmmm

wispy cloak
#

And do you know how much of that is taken up by containers and tanks?

woven leaf
#

I think they should try it

tepid wing
#

New ships are also extremely expensive.

wispy cloak
#

They have to have top access to everything

wispy cloak
#

With who's money

woven leaf
#

multi-level solar panels, reaching 50 meters high

tepid wing

That's not even the biggest issue here, you could have solar crates on top that you move.

Multi level solar panels 🤔

wispy cloak

Bunker oil is insanely cheap

stoic ledge
tepid wing

I'm not sure you understand how much of this works.

woven leaf

have a fancy solar system on a ship, but default to diesel at night or when the sun doesnt shine

wispy cloak

Cargo ships aren't filling up with diesel

#

It costs too much

woven leaf

how about replacing diesel engines with hydrogen fuel cells?

tepid wing

Shout-out to the Tesla semis being awful, low range, low hauling capacity trucks.

woven leaf

hydrogen isnt cheap though 😢

#

@tepid wing what oil company do you work for ... omg .... 🤦‍♂️

tepid wing

Energy density, reliability and cost.

wispy cloak
#

Even if there was any kind of emissions control on a cargo ship it would improve emissions tenfold

woven leaf

do you work for Shell or BP?

EV trucks are still viable. Just can't use them for everything. And long-haul is where it's super bad.

I do agree that chasing 0-60s and hauling a giant battery across the country is stupid.

wispy cloak

But I'm opposed to tesla existing

tepid wing

If Pepsi and other major companies are buying 100+ Tesla Semi's, there is a reason ... a very good reason ... Fuel prices are crazy at the moment!

wispy cloak

Everything else has been repaired at this point

Except for the steering rack being shifted

tepid wing

The biggest problem with the charging network is what happens to it when Tesla goes under.

wispy cloak

I didn't know they sold off half of the network.

Tesla also announced that their charger design should be the defacto standard in north america

wispy cloak

The only really positive thing he's done is push EVs forward by getting the real car companies to make them. That's not much in the grand scheme of things.

woven leaf

Would BYD and Honda and Ford and Kia be releasing electric vehicles now if it wasn't for Elon?

Would we have self landing stage 1 rockets land on earth or ships if it wasn't for Elon?

tepid wing

yeah but Elon advanced the tech by decades

tepid wing

Not really.

woven leaf

pfft yeah really, Shell and BP would have pushed the tech back decades

tepid wing

ummm....

tepid wing

EVs aren't a new idea, soft landing rockets aren't a new idea, vacuum trains aren't a new idea, satellite internet isn't a new idea, he just got his wealth from being incompetent and got famous off of it.

woven leaf
#

Honeslty I am surprised many of you are so anti elon

tepid wing

It's hard to be pro E***.

woven leaf
#

off course GM tried electrics in the 90's but the oil companies squashed that idea

tepid wing

The tech also wasn't there yet.

woven leaf

but it takes an Elon to push them away and introduce a proper EV that will make a huge chage

tepid wing

# brittle totem Well isn't most of the eu trucks just on the same platform as the ice powered on...

Is it more efficient tho? It has ~900kWh capable of doing ~500 miles/800 kilometres, which is 1.125kWh/km

Take a random DAF XF/XD Electric, 525kWh battery - 500+km range = 1.05kWh/km, Mercedes eActros 420kWh - 400km range = 1.05kWh/km

(although the Tesla Semi battery size is unknown yet as far as I know, and the DAF/Mercedes aren't real world results as far as I've seen?)

Main "benefit" of the Tesla Semi is it's enourmous battery pack... which won't even work in Europe as it has a massively long cab (and is just a day cab!) due to the giant battery being behind it, which greatly shortens the length of the trailer you can tow

Europe has a max combination length for a standard setup of 16.5 meters, a standard trailer is 13.6 meters. The Semi cab is ~4 meters, + space between the cab and the trailer.... so 16.5m - 0.5m distance (if that's even enough, idk) - 4 meters cab = 12m max load, so you can transport 12% less each time. 8 regular trucks would require an additional Tesla Semi which is also a massive additional cost
