Also i thought why the f it stops at 160 but i think it's got a limiter at 140
Toyota Hybrids have something like this
Probably the same speedometer as regular up!s
Same with the fuel level
200kmh
Ah
Apparently "fuel" display is also slightly different
Ah no it's the same for facelift models
Would be odd to have a topspeed of 175 but speedo stops at 160
No way the official top speed of the 1.0 MPI is 175
Si
Its actually with enough straight distance more like 180
In a laboratory
I know for a fact how much the up sips without looking at the fuel economy
It's cityl driving only tho
Because i pretty much get 550km out of that 35l tank which is about 6.4 liters
My mixed was 9.4l/100km
But i drive like an idiot at 160 on motorway
On highway i get like 7.4l/100 avg
I drive old car with large engine
And 2.0 for my standards is large
Average old car with tiny engine lets gooo
For zhe Meriva it's a test for me, I'm taking it on longer trips so it's different from normal, usually it's 6.6L/100km or something similar. So I'm curious to see if it can actually do 5.7L/100km.
For the Corsa on LPG it makes 0 difference what driving I do, it basically always uses the same. Fast driving, city driving, countryside, eco driving, doesn't matter
My brother's 1er is reporting the exact same number
I actually could drive at like 4.2 liters if i stick to 100-120 max at mixed driving
Motorway just hurts
And living on a mountain also hurts
I feel
I wanted to day i drive a 2.0 dinosaur, but I have MPI
But I drive on highway basically heavily loaded
I can do about 4.8-4.9 if I stick between 80-100
Ye that 6km mountain i have to go up before i reach my village is always murdering fuel economy
I always find that I get most of it back on the descent
Brrrrrrr brrrr
Mine is most efficient around 120 kmh
really? that's quite fast
I do 130kmh max.
It becomes way too loud with engine revving at 5k
I think somewhere between 70 and 90 I get peak economy
About 100kmh is it for most modern cars a good economic middle
it doesn't increase by that much going up to 110-115
But after that it shoots up quite drastically
I think a 200 kph it's like 20l/100km or something stupid
Inefficiency is exponential
drag indeed increases exponentially
I never to try go 200kmh
Like driving 200 is way more inefficient than double of driving 150 compared to 100
But I'm really heavily loaded
My car is very draggy
This is efficient all the time
200 is stupid and should be forbidden
But muuuh freedom
lol, come at me
Meanwhile the guy behind me flashing their light and honking when I was going 180 kmh
I think most drivers are not capable of going that fast including me
Vroom
Also sometimes 20 kmh feels too fast in some trucks
I maxed out the golf once... But i wouldn't do it over and over again
My Ford Focus mk1 1.8 16v did top speed in 3 cylinders
With a blinking check engine light
5K at 130km/h the cars I have driven is usually around 1,7k-2,5k rpm at those speeds.
It's actually 3.9k rpm
I've meant driving any faster
Call me dumb that i assume people can read my mind
Still pretty high for those speeds I guess that only have 5 gears.
Yep
There were 6 speed ones
I wonder if I could upgrade my gearbox since mine one is broken
The weird thing is that my dads car runt at around 1,5-1,7k rpm at 130km/h but it has 7 gears. And my moms car sits at a bit over 2k rpm but it has 8 gears.
I'm like unable to downshift to 3rd gear without grinding gears
And up shifting to 3rd I have to manually synchronize
my dad's car exits gears
And that's also happens on 5th gear
I let off gas and my car goes off gear
And when I put gas it goes in gear
The lever literally moves on 5th
DIESEL or Petrol?
My dads car is a Diesel and my moms is a Petrol both have 2.0L i4s.
I usually like to keep my engine revving around 2.5-3.5k
Ofc it gets higher when goes fast
But I don't like go below 2.5k
Feels super sluggish below there
my dad's car
My car does like 3k rpm at 130kph in 6th gear
2k at 80 kph in 6th
actually thinking about it, I think it's quite a bit above 3k at 130kph
mhhh maths says it should be 3.2k at 130kph
Still much lower than me
Imagine driving 15 hours with engine that stays around 4k rpm
Let alone 5k
Hope my new headgasket can handle this
Saw one of these mfs
Super rusty lookin and yellow
Either the seats were super low or there was no seats 💀💀
This looks like a chinesium mini that crossbreed with golf cart and VW thing/safari
Man I love the soapbox
@fathom socket What happened to your cargo?
🤣
@deep zealot what's the first mod you'd do to a e36
tires. Those are the weakness to most old cars, and then go up from there
So coilovers, chassis work, ditch the rear seats, and then work on the engine
not the baddie chrysler 200
Depending on the transmission, that might need to go as well. Also depends if it’s gonna be used on the track or somewhere else
whut happened here?
A polish truck have been hitting another car on the left lane, the side curtain came loose. The cargo is polyurethane, an isolation substance
This will be a bit interesting Tesla is apperently replacing their ultra sonic parking sensors with Vision/camera based instead. https://www.tesla.com/support/transitioning-tesla-vision
Safety is at the core of our design and engineering decisions. In 2021, we began our transition to Tesla Vision by removing radar from Model 3 and Model Y, followed by Model S and Model X in 2022. Today, in most regions around the globe, these vehicles now rely on Tesla Vision, our camera-based Autopilot system.
Yeah it's inferior but they pretend like it's better, also the removal will probably benefit the buyer €/$/¥/£..0, so pure profit for Tesla
Also, apparently they didn't met their production goals, but still overproduced to the demand
Yeah the made 343.000 cars and they thought they would manage to make 346.000 car in q3 but it still a big improvement over q2.
Tesla’s Autopilot is suspected in the fatal rear endings of two motorcyclists. With deep learning doing automated feature extraction, it's impossible to know how AI "sees" us. But we have a terrifying guess.

Oh my numbers where a bit of off here are real ones for q2 and q3,
And the ultra sonics ones they have right now was very good to it even showed distance in cm and millimeter and it was really accurate too.
It's just ways to reduce costs. Sadge.
saw this the other day
Yeee
Just saw a Roll Royce Dawn Black Badge, very nice
That's me day after tomorrow.
You getting a new car or are you going to Germany?
Going to Germany for a few days. In The Hague atm staying with friends.
Nice
Driving a car with a cracked radiator for months finally went wrong heh
Still got home fine
Friend laughed when I said I keep 10 litres of water just in case
used all 10 litres getting home

I got given a free radiator in what appears to be brand new condition by a friend though
I was putting it off as its £300 to be recored etc by a specialist and generally unobtanium for replacement
Needed to get it done for winter though so I could actually run antifreeze
I was expecting to end up on "cars you dont see anymore" facebook as I had to stop on the A92 during rush hour then do a XUD power wheelspin into 70mph traffic
no one in the slow moving traffic on the opposite side decided to photograph my despair however

I get 21.2L/100km in the city
My Avalon xls give 11.7-12.4L/100Km 3.6 btw
5.2l/100... but it's only 2 wheels 🙂
my mazda 6 has averaged 18mpg this tank but all i do is go to and from school which is like 100% stop and go traffic
or 13 liters/100km
cool for stock
yea everythings stock
stock DME, stock exhaust, stock reso, stock muffler, both cats on there
my best is 4.5l/100km
big turbo, big injectors, cat delete
increased fuelling, stock boost for now
injection timing advanced about as far as possible
need to swap ECUs so I can add more dynamic injection advance and turn up the boost
Next year I will start with driving license A
Ive got a friend pushing 5 mpg on his single turbo 800 whp build
hes running port injection, Pure turbos, and methanol injection
Is that a...
Well we get this in in heavy wagon. But its an Volkswagen so you never know it tjose numbers are correct.
Redbull Racing
That's what I get with a semi truck
OH and I thought the consumption in my moms car was bad maybe i shouldn't complain then. Seems like evereyone hets gets over 10l/100km.
Is Max Verstappen in front of you ?
Meanwhile. This truck tells me average of 30 L/100km
Looks like Stockholm during rush hours just that the traffic jam lasts trough the whole city.
💀
whats your fuel prices
I think it was €2.40 a liter?
It was €2.45 even.
thats foul
Meanwhile. Some Americans are annoyed to pay that price per gallon.
mines 1.38 euro
they got it good
they just drive 3 ton boats
couple cents cheaper in us than aus
thats just going off the average i can find
Having big trucks here is useless. Since you're required to register hours driven and the like if you go above a certain limit.
I'm talking pickup dealios by that.
And this is before the diesel price "spiked" again its currently at 26,5kr/l. 1505 Sek is around 210 AUD for just one tank of diesel.
thats nearly 4aud a litre💀
I heard from another company that he ordered all of his drivers fill up all tanks before the weekend.
Maybe 9 trucks and 3 excavators, tractors and other fuel tanks.
Could be over 7,500 SEK saved from not doing anything special.
manager of a cattle station gets people to do something similar to that
he ran out of reserve tanks
Cattle station? Don't those get the red juice?
What do you do, send it every time and then emergency brake to get to a stop again?
This one is more of a tax write off
Lil dodgey
They normally buy massive tanks
Must be the worst fuel consumption of a Mazda 6 in the world
haha, probably, 13L is actually impressive
I think US Mazda 6's have a 2.5L I4
The Mazda 6 over here comes with the "same" engine as my MX-5
Baffled
A 2 liter i4
They must be doing something crazy to get those numbers
My 4.2 i6 gets 15L to 100k
US also gets a 2.5 Turbo for the Mazda 6 but iirc his wasn't that
It's a deisel
2.5 I4 is also optional in Europe btw
What is this
Ahh, cool
Yeah often see that in Australian dashcam videos
I wonder if I overloaded my car
love when I have random response selected and I'm not aware of it because I'm blind
Very common for a 4b to have them
Idk about other countries
Jokes on you.
I want to know if you overloaded your car.
(Not because I have the police on speed dial or anything...)
I'm worried more about the engine
I had my head gasket replaced
gotta have to drive up really steep mountain
Antenna for PMR, likely around 169MHz
undless I do it on reverse
Truck or personal vehicle?
You can just go slower in a lower gear, you know.
Personal vehicle
more worried about not getting grip
Why wouldn't you have grip? roads that bad?
because I have basically a big load in the trunk
and I already empty have issues with grip at that one particular incline
Too much weight on the back, no weight on the front, going uphill shifting the center of gravity even more
So just no weight on the drive wheels?
Do a 5 head move, and drive backwards if you have a FWD car.
funny enough
my car is more stable when loaded heavily
it feel sometimes like it's gonna float away if there's strong winds
and I've heard someone telling the rear suspension is better than on a focus mk1
when did you last get it rebuilt
could just have clogged parts
like 3 weeks ago
I had it overheat
IDK how
but I've noticed the oil consumption is somewhat lower
but it struggles up hills
I'm more concerned to not overload the engine
makes sense
but I'm gonna be driving like most of the way on highway at high speeds
but last part worries me
where my mom lives there are 2 pretty steep hills
she'll be right
I think one is 30% and the other is 37%
crazy
not really sure, but I always do a burnout when going from stop
💀
That's probably what Peter Griffin does in his Mazda 6 😂
Not too bad
That sounds like you are within your limits
I think my car can hold up to 500 kg
What is all of that in there for and why is most of it wrapped in trash bags?
Plastic wrap
Just so people don't look
Mostly some electronics, pc l, screens clothes and collectable things
Also stuff to sleep with
Some food
Wait so why do you have it in there?
I'm moving out
Ahhh
I'll comeback with a trailer for the rest of stuff
Unless someone breaks in and steals everything from my storage unit
Huh?
He's gone to steal your stuff
I'm still there
hah in go 2 blocks and stop for 5 minutes vancouver traffic that doesn't move 😂 I'm just glad not to be feeding the work truck; it's in the 30s easy.
Not a usual Dutch road
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf-JM6k7yrQ Can someone explain why this car even exits ?

Lmao no
When I say 100% stop and go I mean 100% stop and go
I live 2 miles from school and it takes me like 5-15 minutes to get there the traffic is so bad
I might be a little bit aggressive on the throttle though when I have 3 minutes to get to class and I’m still down the road 😳
Lol 2 miles I'd bike to school lol
My fuel economy on highway now went from 13.5l/100 to 7.3l/100
Big difference between city and highway driving
But he is from the US if I remember correctly so its probably "impossible" to bike our walk anywhere outside his neighborhood.
Agreed 👀
Actually i and most other kids in my town had to walk like 5 miles to school in winter
In general driving your kids to school is kinda a weird thing to do here
The only way it's accepted by society is if your parents work in close proximity to the school and you're from a different village
Same in Sweden and probably most country's in Europe. You either walk or bike or take the public transport.
The kids who were driven to school got the image of having helicopter parents
I could lol but then I’d have to get up earlier
I savor every single minute of sleep I can get
and I have work right after school now so I kinda have to hurry home to get changed
Driving 2 miles if you could avoid it is just a horrific idea
Very short distance driving is just a bad idea
2 miles is like a perfect bicycle distance
found an lfa today
Ooh those things are so cool
Nurburgring Edition of it is 👌
V10
Lol if you need 15 minutes for 2 miles, you average 8mph... You can bike twice as fast
So biking would actually be faster

Same, I did 6 miles one way for years
vroom
So my new co-worker has a 2017 Cadillac ats without the big infotainment system. He's got this issue with the Bluetooth where phones will connect to it no problem, but they recognize it as a mono Bluetooth headset with no audio output. It does calls only. He's using an s9 and I tried my s22 ultra, but there was no option for playing audio in the Bluetooth settings. I even tried forcing a different connection type via dev controls, but it didn't change anything. Anyone have any idea why that happens?
Maybe
The part where it gets close is because to get out of my neighborhood I drive through it, then up this road that connects to the main road that doesn’t have any traffic
The main road has all the traffic which then has a turn off onto the school’s road then into the parking lot
and it’s uphill and I’ve skipped leg day for the past… many days
That is true
But until that point it would be torture
I get people like exercising to feel and look good after but some people who like the feeling while they’re exercising I just don’t get
Idk biking is a second nature for many, especially here
I don't even consider it as exercise
that sounds nice
i used to ride my bike on trails around my city but its interest to me kinda died
most of the time the weather is terrible anyways we get like 10 good days a year where it isn’t too hot
In my opinion anyways I hate the heat
When I was in elementary school the whole way home where nearly just uphill. And this was the worst part it doesn't look that bad on picture but its way worse in reality and keep in mind that I was 7 when I started to bike to school.
ikr
back in my day we rode our bikes to school uphill both ways
Ordered a new bicycle
I have a peugeot road bike
I had to ride to my junior high school on a bmx bike with no gears both ways over a big hill
Heh we got that as a loaner bike when we dropped off the Peugeot at the Peugeot dealership

Not on my first bike. 😢
I only had rear brakes iirc so it was kinda sketchy tho because there was a fence at the bottom of the hill I had to go through a tiny side path to get through
Damn that must’ve sucked
I barely use my front brakes ngl
I did cyclocross so had a mountain bike setup for that, still mountain bike was far from ideal.
what could make or break the result was your ability to climb over a wall with your bike on your shoulder.

all these people cheating with like road bike frames 😤
Have a few bikes but not cycled since I got my license
I put brand new brakes on my fancy mountain bike.. then stopped cycling heh
Well ngl my bike got stolen, so I got a handy down from my mom, but it's like 3 sizes too small so I don't like riding it. Also has like 25k miles on it lol
So now I got a proper bike again
Or well, soon
Largest frame size they create
Lol
Sadly bikes gets stolen quite often where I live specially if you leave them on the bike parking spot near the train station. Like if you have an fancy bike or any new bike it will nearly be guarantied to get stolen in less then a week.
Yeah I wouldn't park a good bike at the train station lol
Mine got stolen at the shopping mall while I was at work
🥲
Awesome
Also, definitely insuring the new bike lol
They even build this fancy "parking garage for bikes" for bikes this summer but nearly no ones uses because their bikes will most likely get stolen anyways.
And this is what happens if you decides to park you bike at the "old place".
Most people uses shitty bikes to go to the station and then have fancy bikes for the weekends and stuff like that.
I can imagine it will take a while to get your bike out of there.
I have no idea ngl
I never use public transport
But yeah often same here
Public transport is completely free for me so i use it a lot specially now when "gas" is so expensive and the prices is Sweden just spiked again.
I have free public transport but as I say, "its free for a reason" :^)
public transport so shite it has to be given away

I mainly just use it to go to and home from school. Because it would be such of waste of money to drive to school mostly because parking is stupid expensive its like 15-20$ for 8 hours. And the it doesn't take that much longer to just use public transport either.
ah when I went to uni the public transport was shite
like 3-4 connecting busses taking nearly 2 hours some days which I can do in like 20-30 mins in my car
School parking is free, and I study abroad so no free public transport for me... Also trip time would be 6 times as long

most infuriating thing arriving right as I see my next bus leaving
My school only has parking space for the teachers so I would need to use the public one witch is very expensive.

Our parking is just too small, so if you arrive late there's no space left
Luckily I only need to be at the research center nowadays
So that's a private parking 😎
I had to pay $23 for a parking pass idek if it’s for the whole year or just a semester
my uni was like £200 or something for the year I think so I just parked my car in the residential streets near to the uni heh
they also limited the number of spaces to encourage greener transportation optionsTM
Classic
Yo, how does e85 work in the winter? And if a car is tuned for e85, how hard is it to switch it to 91 when you have a turbo?
Wouldn’t 91 be less likely to pre detonate
I’d assume no difference besides price unless your car relies on some property that needs lower compression detonations
Idrk that’s just what the engine was originally designed for
I’m just worried for the winter since it’s my first e85 car
its the lowest quality fuel it was designed to consume
Idk if it has any of the precautionary things installed
internet says going up in octane is 100% safe
Do I have to get it retuned if I have a flex fuel sensor?
not likley
Well ethanol to gasoline is a bit of a difference idk
your tune is probably designed to get maximum compression on E87 before detonation so if you put in 91 its gonna be fine unless you want more power and tune it for a higher pressure only then you need to retune for 87
Huh
I thought once you tuned it for ethanol/methanol you can’t go back to gas unless you retune it
Like how ethanol would deliver a wildly different AFR
Ok would I be crazy for wanting to replace a transmission if it failed in a near 300k tahoe that is in great condition for the millage and still running like new with a lot of high quality parts
tahoes are cool get a new transmission
I knew that was the answer but my parents are saying NO how can I convince them
its got the 4l60e and it has a very violent shift from 1st to 2nd gear if I am at a low RPM but if I am at 2500 it shifts fine
Just buy one and have it show up at your door
They can't say no if it's already there
I never installed a transmission before
Chrisfix
If you have the right tools it shouldn’t be insanely difficult as long as you get the exact correct new transmission
prius deserved it
The best-sounding cars of all time have inline-5s and V-10s, and so we lined up the 2023 Audi RS3 with the Lexus LFA and a Porsche Carrera GT!
This episode of Ultimate Drag Race Replay is brought to you by WeatherTech: https://www.weathertech.com/?utm_source=hagerty&utm_medium=web_visit&utm_campaign=Ultimate_Drag_Race_Replay
First, Jason races...
You sure it doesn't just need a flush?
So
The oil consumption drastically decreased
And also 5th gear pops out when I coast below 110 kmh
e85 typically isn't actually E85 in winter
They change the composition throughout the year
Adding higher proportions of gasoline as it gets colder
Going from E85 to almost any kind of regular gasoline is going down in octane rating, the octane rating of E85 is in the 100+ range
At my office we only pay for like 3 or 4 spaces, but the parking lot is at most like 50% full, so sometimes we use like 10+
Technically we have assigned spaces too, but I don't even know which ones those are
My car is street tuned(not by me) on e85 for the summer how would that effect it?
Well assuming the knock sensors still work, I would think less power on regular gasoline
You'd probably wanted the highest octane gasoline you can get
I’ve heard half e85 half 91 is a decent sweet spot but that just seems like a hassle
Problem with E85 is mainly just that some fuel systems can't handle the ethanol.
Well that's not a problem here though, is it
For some, then even E10 is bad enough.
Yeah. It's not.
But the car might also not be tuned for E85.
Since the energy per volume is much lower with ethanol.
So you require a lot more fuel to reach the same level of output.
My car is street tuned(not by me) on e85
Yeah. Then you ideally just want to run E85. Unless you also have a sensor that checks ethanol content.
Main thing I’m worried about is that in my state ethanol goes down to like 51% in the winter, regardless when it’s cold it doesn’t like vaporizing so cold starts can tend to be impossible in a below zero environment
Secondly I don’t actually know if it has the right sensors since it’s only been tuned in the summer
Could you ask the person/company that tuned it for E85?
Individual, the person I bought the car from only used the software for two step
It was someone who owned it in like 2015 they tuned it
It’s been a garage car since
I don’t have a real way of contacting them
They had their email in some software but I don’t think it exists anymore
So uhhh
Tricky thing that
So ugly.
Still better than any IVECO
That looks like a standard semi
Nah this looks like a standard truck to me.
The modern cabovers are actually super nice to drive.
I'm always happy when I see a Ford F-Max
I know it's not sold in Europe but from time to time I see one
And it's nice to know as 99.9% of the people probably don't even notice it
I've seen a few of them
Same, but not often
Yeah. Few and far between.
what do you have agains the Prius
Those are nice cars, especially as a daily
without looking
on US autotrader
what do you think is the price of the most expensive pick up truck
it was flushed at 286k
it started having issues after the clogged cats caused a shutdown on the highway
For a new one?
It's used actually
2011 6.0
I finally bought a 6.0 power stroke and I’m extremely excited to see how freaking amazing they really are from what all the cocky 6.0 owners are saying! Let’s go.
I still hate those type of rims.
So gross
So GMC is still selling this van in North America for 52k. Looks like a van from like early 2000s
Because it is a van from the early 2000s
Nothing is worse than a FIAT
ok you win on that one
That looks like it ran into a wall
But the fact that its still 52k in 2022 is just a bit crazy does anyone buy it for that price.
I'm surprised it doesn't have a backup camera and display. I thought that was a requirement by law in the US.
Unless it does and pics are from 2013. Lol
there just options that have become common but not a requirement there are still quite a few vehicles like that for example the work trim chevy colorado
Damn Chevy...
I mean a lot of work trim vehicles are like that and the full size gmc and chevy vans are mostly used for work and passenger transport
Eh heavy duty work van that's got a strong following is bound to cost a dollar or so more
Your mostly paying for a few things when you buy them a strong engine ,transmission and frame
🥹
Or for them be turned into a box truck or mini bus
Just Googled it, it's a federal regulation here to have a backup camera in cars produced in 2018 and after. Dunno how Chevy and a couple others get away with it. But I remember seeing base model Nissan sentras and other sub $20k new vehicles with them.
Wack
Maybe for commercial use it's regulated differently.
Well they never really updated it since 2008 so im not sure
In 2018 they did.
yeah, backup cameras are a US federal requirement for sure
there were a couple of cars that got caught in a weird retrofit solution limbo where they had a fugly screen tacked on to their existing cheap stereo
I think the 2018 Mazda MX-5 basically just had the camera stuck in the middle of the rear bumper, it looks terrible
2014-2017 it didn't have one
wow that's a honker of a back-up cam
I see it also has the trendy lobster-claw tail lights
It's a rebadge of the Renault Captur... There it's hidden in the Renault logo. But taking the logo away, that's what's left of it xD
mitsubishi is such a non-starter for me in canada, literally the only non-horrible car they've sold here my entire life is the evo x
and even then the option packages were a bit weird so I bought a STi instead
Man, I miss og Mitsubishi. 🥲
their current lineup is 3 SUV/CUVs, a hybrid version of one of those, and the Mirage, a car I would avoid in pretty much all situations
I would rather buy a $10,000 used car and keep $5,000 for repairs than buy a $15,000 Mirage
The new Outlander is a decent car... But ofc it doesn't get sold in Europe
🥲
Mirage is called Space Star here 🥲
And then they have the Eclipse Cross, the very old ASX which will now get replaced with the Renault rebadge... And that's it
I don't know if I'd go as far as calling the new Outlander "good", but it at least looks less shit than everything else they've sold in the last decade
???
they've gone with a 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engine in something that big, which both does not make it particularly quick or efficient
All "SUVs" are ugly, atleast the Outlander has a decent value, the PHEV is okay and the interior is actually nice
It's the best car they made in over 10 years, so obviously they don't sell it in Europe

...and the PHEV is still the old gen in Canada so you don't get to argue "well it's a little engine because they designed it around the hybrid"
Ah so the PHEV is the old gen in Canada 🤔
You sure you can't configure the Outlander with the PHEV engine?
Also, RVR 🥲 Why different naming? In Europe it's the ASX, in the US it's Outlander Sport ( 🥲 ) ...
nope. all 7 trim levels on the site are the 2.5 + cvt + awd
Yikes
"RVR" is technically the original name (it's used in Japan). I seem to remember having the outlander sport for like a year then they replaced it with RVR.
there were ads EVERYWHERE for the RVR when it launched
The name RVR is only used in Japan, South Korea, and Canada. In most markets, it is sold as the Mitsubishi ASX (an abbreviation of "Active Sports Crossover"), and as the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and Indonesia. ```
Why also Canada lol
Japanese car companies tend to treat Canada separately from the USA
Also weird they switched it during it's production xD
we have completely different trim levels across all the Mazdas
Sure but to group it with Japan and South Korea is weird, both those markets are RHD
I might be hallucinating actually seeing an Outlander Sport here at a car show. Maybe it was a pre-production unit... I dunno
Nissan also named a couple of things differently for a few years
The RVR/ASX/... was also sold in Europe as a Peugeot 4008 / Citroen C4 Aircross
I think we have the Qashqai when the USA doesn't?
yeaaaah we had Rogue, Rogue Sport, and Qashqai here for a bit
Rogue Sport is going away in the US
The Rogue was the new Rogue, the Rogue Sport was the old Rogue, and the Qashqai was the Qashqai

we used to have a body-on-frame SUV called the X-Trail based on the little truck in the early '00s
You sure you aren't confusing it with the Xterra?
oh, you're right
Don't think there ever was a BoF X-Trail
the original X-Trail was something else
This was the 1st X-Trail
The new X-Trail is on the same platform as the new Outlander
I think the first X-Trail was from 2000 of 2001?
also in 2006 Nissan got in shit with Canadians for making fun of Newfoundlanders and using a Cape Breton actor to play the Newfie in question

this is roughly like using a Scott to play someone Irish, to use a European frame of reference

They used a Canadian to play a Scotsman in Star Trek
yeah and his family's from Northern Ireland
I'm surprised there weren't riots
(I love how the Scottish guy is somehow named "Scotty" too 😆 )
Mitsubishi also made a small hatchback with Smart
Although the Smart was such a poor seller they discontinued it after 2 years
ForFour yes xD
The 2nd gen ForFour was a Renault Twingo xD
Canada also got the ForTwo like two years before the USA
we got it with the diesel
some diesels were sold in the USA but it was a weird 3rd party import process, and they never properly sold them there until they switched to the gas engine

She's blowed up good
drives of in his German GM car
Had to do a compression test from under the car
It got so hot that it melted coil packs
And probably warped everything
we only had the 61 hp one, but even a 61 hp motor attached to a single-clutch automatic nightmare transmission on a highway here is practically just deciding "yeah I want to get crushed into scrap by a pickup"
Also did you know that you have to disconnect the soft top to get to the engine cover
Which is also under speaker box
Worse than an audi to work on
The last owner was quoted $20000-$30000 for a new engine
For a 22 year old car
what trim level boxster was this?! you could just buy another entire car
meanwhile in north america the yaris is a mazda 2
it looks like they've discontinued it but you could buy a really ugly "yaris sedan" that was clearly a mazda 2 that got into a corporate accident
Hmmm our newer models got the 40kW = 54hp, no 61hp :(
looks like the last year for them was 2020
oh yeah when the second gen fortwo came out they just ditched the diesel here entirely and went with the 1.0 turbo gasoline
oh gross I might've been wrong about 61 hp, that was a gas engine number. we had the 41 hp diesel.
Probably not very high
It was a manual though
My automotive instructor is the one that owns it now
He got it for free
His friend has an engine for it
0-100 km/h on that diesel fortwo in "maybe, how windy is it?"
well a manual boxster engine swap sounds like a fun project
We also got a 3 cyl, 0.6L Turbo
xD
I was in France in 2017 for a couple weeks on vacation and I saw an Aston Martin Cygnet
what a dumb car
Toyota IQ
yeah we had that as a Scion iQ
I've seen like five of them ever
it didn't help they cost basically the same as a Yaris and were worse in almost every way
on the other hand I was in the Renault store eyeballing the Twingo and I thought it looked awesome
this guy
meanwhile across the street at Peugeot
iQ also sold poorly in Europe, positioned higher than the Aygo but no one cared xD Aygo (+ sibbling) was way cheaper
Latest Twingo also didn;t perform as expected
Sad as it's RWD
Modern Peugeot's look great
that's half of why I liked the idea of it, a new manual rwd econo car sounds like fun
just without being as soul-crushingly tiny as the smart
There was even a turbo version of the Twingo... Turbo manual RWD

Also that's literally the 2nd gen Smart ForFour xD
when the 3rd gen smart fortwo showed up here in Canada at the car show I was trying to open the "hood" (the front panel) to see what was in there and I discovered it wasn't hinged like a normal thing, but instead had a weird panel that popped off and I couldn't reinstall it properly 😆
it was held on with a canvas strap
They are very common here in Sweden basically the only Mitsubishi swedes are willing to buy for some reason. But I think they changed the name to Eclipse after 2020.
I didn’t even know a Mazda 2 existed until you said it
the second gen mazda 2 sold decently in canada, i'm not sure you could actually buy the newest (third gen) as a mazda in north america though
the mazda cx-3 is a slightly lifted mazda 2 with awd though
they reallllly should have called it a cx-2, because then they could have called the cx-30 the cx-3
This is Mitsubishi whole line up of cars in Sweden as of 2022.
Yeah no the Eclipse Cross is a different model, but basically same, it was a car you could drive for free and later for basically free as a company car for a few years
I am jealous of all the Volvos you have over there
Can anyone spot the free company car years?
Volvo ❤️
I have owned a 1987 740 Turbo, then a 2004 S60 2.4i, a 2005 S60R, and a 1991 940 Turbo
my parents had all sorts (got the 740 Turbo from them), they have a 2015 XC70 now
0-100km/h = Yes
pretty much anything over 10 seconds is asking for trouble in North America
that one's like... 16?
Classic Porsche 😀
My dad had a 360 GLT, crashed it xD Basically the hot hatch Volvo of it's time
My brother had a 2015 V40 diesel but sold it as diesels get bullied by the government, thanks VW
Yeah for that price you could a get way newer boxter and probably nicer one too.
we never saw the 300/400 series here, I do like a 480 turbo
I love how crazy they look
My dad even worked at the 300 series assembly line

My cousin had a 480 Turbo
Nice car
my uncle was stationed in west germany in the '80s, they had a really ugly looking 344 😆
300 wasn't the best looking... also originally designed as a DAF
Especially as a sedan with the automatic it was really an old people car
I have a photo of it somewhere, they had towing mirrors on it too, it was really goofy
I don't know why anyone bothers with a sedan version of those small cars (like, why anyone would want one instead of a hatchback)
Yeah they where very popular as company here in Sweden mostly because it was one of the cheapest if not the cheapest plug in hybrid that you could get at the time. Witch means that "benefit" tax was basically at 0. Nowadays the rav 4 has taken its spot and is one of the best selling car for private buyers and as company car too.
like just look at the dumper on this stupid versa sedan
Yeah we have them all (:
I had an outlander phev as a rental car in New York once and it was really cool
granted it was like a 2018 model and not the highest end model but it was nice still
I would love a small polestar hatchback someday
But the sad thing it that the only Volvo that private buyers get is the xc40 the rest is just company car and has been like that since they become so expensive after Geely bought Volvo back in 2010.
So you can't order a new one anymore in Canada ?
Diesel is still very popular in Sweden it has outsold "gas" cars over the past 6 years and 9 months.
And here is an list over all of the different Volvos models that we have in Sweden.
Idk that was just a thing of the time... I mean, even some hatchbacks were a sedan back then, like this Kadett D: the glass doesn't open, just the bottom part
you can, but it's an expensive custom order and there aren't a lot of options you can choose from
Yeah so as a company car you could drive them with 0% tax, a.k.a free 🥲 (same with later EV's in like 2019, hence the Model 3 was popular then but sales dropped like 90% since)
everyone buys XC60s or XC90s so they stopped stocking the big wagons
If I was buying a 70+k car, I'd definitely want to spec it myself lol, no stock car for me
Most cars here are built-to-order, especially for private owners
that's fair enough, and I'd be fine with that, but built-to-order is really weird in north america for some reason
something something dealerships
For company cars it's often some special Business Edition with limited options, so most are in stock (in normal conditions)
Volvo doesn't have that many options anymore you can choose from between 2-4 different trims depending on model. And color and rims and that's basically it.
It used to be like 50/50, last year diesel sales were like 2%
They recently renamed their trims to garbage names
They didn't really get more expensive after the Geely purchase... they did "ditch" the cheaper models like the V40. The replacement of it, in the shape of the XC40, is lik 10k more as it's an CUV and apparently that warrants a 10k upcharge
All CUV's are basically priced as a car from the class above
yeah I'm not a fan of crossovers
the closest I'd drive myself is the "lifted wagon" type
my parents have the 2015 XC70 T6 middle-of-the-range model, it has parking sensors and rear heated seats and stuff but doesn't have the bigger screen. I think they would've gotten the V70 if it was actually available...
Volvo V60 or Opel Insignia (Buick Regal TourX without the cladding) is on the top of my list
The company car drivers over here still got to pay for them but it was like 50% less sometimes even more then a similar fully gas powered car. But nowadays the have removed the tax benefit for plug in hybrids completely and you only get lower tax on fully electric cars. So specially the sales of new Volvos has gone down a lot but Tesla sales has gone up a lot. And all other evs too.
But with the current car pricing I won't get another car
I'm not a fan of automatics but with the polestar tune that thing kicks butt
Yeah I see that a lot on other market cars, here sat nav + big screen is basically always standard. Also often as they first start life as a company car, and that's inclused in the Business package
the big thing for me is comfort, the seats in every modern volvo I've owned are amazing
Yes they did get more expensive a v60 is the comparable model to the v70 and the base price an v60 is like 45k€ and a nearly fully loaded v70 used to be like a 40-45k€
The company still pays for the car, but usually a driver has to pay a tax based on the value of the car to use the company car as a personal car... and for PHEV's that was 0% between 2013-2015 and for EV's that was 0% until like 2019 🥲
✨ inflation ✨
Yeah, + the styling is just great
How is the T6 a middle of the range engine isn't the T6 the top engine for v70/xc70 ?
they only sold the XC70 with the 3.2 and the T6 here
Mid-spec equipment
and the 3.2 was only in the cheapest ones
With a lot of imagination there is no inflation
I miss the V40
😢
I'm mad the V40 never came here at all
I miss boxy volvos
I wanted a T5 C30 manual, but they only sold like three of those where I live
Had... more charm
I gotta say to modern volvo
They're pretty especially polestar
for some reason all the C30s in Canada were ugly too, gross colours and almost none of them got the R-Design body kit
"Our" V40 had R-Design
when my S60R was written off I was looking at an S40 T5 AWD R-Design, basically a "baby S60R"
but it sold before I could go look at it 😦
Oh a friend of mine has an S40 T5, I think it's FWD tho, Polestar engine tuning on it
2010 or 2011 model iirc
Manual ofc 😎
my neighbour has one, it might even be the exact car I wanted to buy
same colour, transmission, engine
I see it in the parkade and go "damnit man I wanted that"
True but the inflation in Sweden wasn't that before covid hit. And the prices of the v60 was still way higher the the v70 used to be.
Volvo has been moving up-market to justify their lower sales quantities, simple as that
it's pretty much impossible to get a European brand in Canada with cloth seats unless it's sold as some weird "eco friendly" option that costs more
Very nicely spaced for a d2 most of them are just base models in Sweden.
if anyone looked at the D2 here they'd just laugh, like "wtf a luxury car with 118 hp come on"
Still 1%/year is over 10% over 10 year... I don't think it's really gotten way more expensive
Most Dutch models are alright, you basically can have it 2 ways: very cheaply specced (but with sat nav) for those who couldn't really fit it in their company car budget but still wanted it... or well specced 😎
10.5%!
We remapped it to 170hp 😎
the thing most people don't care about is where it gets 4.5 L/100 km
Here in Sweden they seem to be very common with the r design package but for some reason the all have the d2 engine. Seems like a weird choice engine on a small "sporty" coupe. https://www.blocket.se/annons/sodermanland/volvo_c30_d2_momentum_r_design_ny_servad_drag/104118162
anything under 10 is all the same to most folks here (which is stupid)
yeah this is what a T5 looks like usually
nasty grey-green, dark body cladding
those are S60R wheels on this used one, factory wheels were ugly too
V40 D2 and D4 sold well here as diesel was still 🥳 back then... and they emitted just 88g/km with a special gearbox and eco tires: Volvo made a special trim just for NL, and they sold a lot of them. Sadly diesels now are considered 🤮 , it drove really nice and it was very fuel efficient but it's taxed like crazy which didn't make financially sense to keep it anymore. And next year, a new test for diesel will come for inspection, and apparently like half of the Euro6 diesel Volvo's fail the test... so it was time for it to go
like yuck
Lol a T5 with those wheels
That's something you only find on base DriveE or Kinetic versions or something with the 1.6
to be fair that's a winter wheel kit
but this is what most US C30s looked like...
mannan is alright
Yeah and they are focusing on the premium market to which you can clearly see on how they new ones are designed compared to "old" ones. They just look more expensive and classy compared too the previous generations of Volvos.
I quite liked the looks of it on an R-Design V40, didn't expect to like it ngl
my 940 turbo had hydras

and even in 2015 I still had all four hubcaps 😆
I just run summer tires all year long 😎 (it's the white hatchback in the top left)
running all-seasons all year round is an asshole move in Edmonton, 'cause you're the one holding up traffic
proper summers is just asking for trouble
my STi came with summer-only tires and for like all of fall and all of spring you don't know if you're going to be able to get out of the parking lot on the way home
it can be +20 in the morning then -3 and snowing on the way home
This is snow here... like once a year
Not buying winter tires for that
I went to high performance all-seasons in the summer, and I still use winter tires
Best here would probably be summer tires for the summer and all season for the winter
you could probably do those nokian all-weather tires in the winter
I was laughing at my friend running his wide semi slicks on the roads here temporarily, rained a bunch...
aquaplaning 24/7
they look like a regular all-season got 1/3rd of a winter tire stuck in it
nah, it gives you sipes for when there's a tiny bit of snow and the rubber stays softer in slightly lower temperatures
winter tyres are needed here but alot of people just take the L on not being able to drive some places for a week or two.
it's kinda like +7 C or higher is summer, -7 and higher is all-season, below -7 is winter
see, here, those people just drive anyway
cant even get out my street
meanwhile, me in my subaru sti with 3 locking diffs and winter tires... pull away from the light, two seconds later I'm like "wtf where is everyone" and I see them all back at the intersection spinning their tires
its funny seeing people try and scary when they come down, a few years back someone came down jumped the kerb and hit my neighbours car
Below 7 is like never here, hence my suggestion summer for summer, all season for winter :)
cars indeed
Hell, probably best to drive off in the morning with all seasons and switch to summer in the afternoon

every time it snows here it's like a circus act for two days until people remember how to drive in the winter
like it doesn't happen every year, multiple times a year
alot of people clattering into kerbs
I've hit a curb once, it was in the 740 turbo when it was still my parents' car
they only had winter tires on the rear 😐
this was before I knew that was a horrible idea
Some woman crashed in to the electicity box at our old house/street... we lived at the bottom of a slight hill back then, and at the bottom there was a corner, and on the other side of the corner was the electriciy box

No electricity for hours tho 🥲
my friend only runs winters on the front wheels but his are ofcourse FWD
Volvos emissions isn't that great I think they are one of the worst brands in 2022 emissions wise. "Volvo Cars among Europe's worst climate offenders Carbon dioxide emissions from new cars in Europe increased last year to the highest level since 2014. It is the second year in a row that the emissions curve is going in the wrong direction. Three car brands stand out as the worst climate offenders and had the biggest emissions increases last year: Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volvo"
there's a few houses on roads with bends in them here. perfectly level road but apparently it's too hard to drive at a slight curve on a 50 km/h road... both have warning lights now, and one has a massive boulder because they got tired of rebuilding their fence
I only run winter tires on my spare
pretty much unstoppable in his 305 compared to all the NPC traffic :^)
Just kidding, I don't have a spare tire
Damn i could never imagine not having winter tires
2019 👀 Well most back then were still just ICE, now they've got plenty PHEV's and even EV's (X)C40 Recharge
I had winter tires for zhe Corsa.... sold them
Tbf im also scared for life since my mum had a pretty bad accident because someone drove around here and hit us because well summer tires + harsh winter sucks
yeah I think Volvo was busy developing their BEV/hybrid stuff in 2019
so they were just running older combustion engines to the end of their lifecycles
If our climate was different I'd get winter tires, but it's so not worth it for me
Last time we needed them was in 2010
Actually made her stop driving for like 20 years
In Sweden it is illegal to drive with summer tires during a set period each year. Which is between December 1 - March 31. Doesn't Canada have a similar thing ? or are you allowed to drive on summer tires during winter.
I literally had to teach her driving again last year because she needed to
it's only illegal in Quebec
which is fucking insane, it should be illegal everywhere except maybe Vancouver/Victoria
Damn March 32
I think in Germany it's "illegal" to drive on summer tires in icey/snowy/... conditions? Correct me if I'm wrong ( @bitter compass 🙃 )
I actually don't know

Makes sense
I think minimum is you get the blame if you crash, and illegal could be
I watch the weather every year, if the highs are below 7 for more than a few days in a week or if snow is sticking, I switch
Honda Jazz infront of me today just blew through the speed check at 40 in a 30, common jazz L
We hade like barely 1c during night like last week here in Sweden. So not that long until its time to switch to winter tires again.
It could just be like speed limit, you can drive 250kmh but if you crash into someone you're responsible or at least partially, if you drive 130 then its fine
It was 18 here today :)
I'm still walking around in shorts and t-shirts xD
We didn't even put on the heater in our home
personally I think Canada should have a 'winter driving' certification on the licenses, and if a region declares winter driving conditions you should get fined for driving without the certification
...
even just basic shit like "don't floor the accelerator if you're stuck" and "steer around stuff instead of laying on the brakes until you hit it" would be awesome
That's not really possible in Canada
The t6 and t8 recharge was stilly pretty common in Sweden at that time.
Considering it's about as car centric as the US
i mean if you're making that argument, everyone should just get free licenses
why make testing or knowledge of safe operation a barrier at all?
Sure, but also still plenty of other vehicles/drivetrains, and it was probably very different for basically any other market except Sweden, NL and maybe Finland? Also, if it's an article from 2019, data is probably from 2018, which was only the T8 in the XC90 since 2014 and the XC60 since 2017
not to mention the T8 was the most expensive one
there wasn't really a "cheap" hybrid
Lol just fill in the formula's
that's so stupid I guess that there is a lot of stupid accidents then if you are allowed to drive with Summer tires during winter. And the insurance company's cant be that happy when the need to pay for it.
it is as stupid as it sounds, yes
Due to emissions tax it was barely more expensive as the regular petrol version here, like a 3k difference
So most were T8's
Yeah its illegal to drive with summer tires before that or after that if it is "winter condition" on the roads like icey or we get snow early or late witch happens sometimes. We got snow in Stockholm in early may last year.
Finland recently removed the obligation to use winter tires, it's now up to you to determine if conditions require them. It's just stupid.
14c will be the peak for the coming week. northern Sweden will probably get their first snow in like 1-2 weeks.
basically the same here but add in constant rain

Well no heater for us during winter that will be fun. because the electricity prices will be insane this year during winter.
thankfully im an avid cold enjoyer
hate summer even though we only really get a rare high of like 23C, none of my cars have AC so beh
at least in Finland driver's education might actually give you enough information to figure out what winter conditions are
Oh yeah we will need to put it on, but we haven't yet :)
Also, our electricity prices are way worse :)
Like everything is way worse here
You'd think so, but every year we get headlines how "winter surprised drivers" .-.
year do go by fast : )
Yeah we need to go and practice on a skid track in Sweden to even be allowed to take you licenses. Weird that Canada doesn't have a similar thing seems like only the Nordic/scandinavian countries have that as mandatory course.
here you can go to a small town, get your license at age 16 puttering around on some local roads in the summer, then maintain your license for 64 years without ever driving again and buy a 40 foot motorhome age 80 and take it through downtown Vancouver or on a mountain highway
I have been having some medical issues and I had to give up my license a few times. Just got it back recently (after waiting like 8 extra months, thanks covid)
the people who tested me initially at the rehab hospital said "yeah just go do a driver's test again and you'll be good to go"
then they called me back later and said "oh you don't actually need to redo the road test, AND WE RECOMMEND YOU DON'T DO IT BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NOT PASS"
like what the fuck, if I don't pass, shouldn't I not be allowed to drive?!?!
Volvo still doesn't over a cheap hybrid option it all just T6 and T8 which is the the top engines. Or I guess the T5 in the xc40 is a bot more accessible for the "average buyer" but you can only get it as FWD.
And in Sweden the "benefit tax" for company car driver where like 25% cheaper on a fully loaded t8 then a base D3.
Yeah the insurance companies wont be happy with that. Doesn't Finland have a similar course that we have in Sweden when you get to drive on ice and get to learn how important winter tires really are.
We haven't gotten to that time of year in Sweden yet.
basically a constant heh
another reason I like older french cars, basically impossible to aquaplane
Oh we get up to 33c in Stockholm during summer and I hate I am just sweaty 24/7 and nights when it doesn't get colder then 20c are the worst.
id just die
Only +33 🥲
my BX turbo diesel pretty quick car is on 165's
quick by my standards anyway
10 second 0-60
Our electracy bill for February this year where like a bit over €1000. I cant imagine how high it will be during the coming winter this year.
Yup. Wet metal if it's summer. I think it's more about learning car control than "why to avoid it" :D Which might not be that helpful with getting people to take proper tires seriously (no amount of skills help if you set off with summer tires and end up on snow. Those reduced traction training conditions don't really prepare you for that, but I guess people think it does)
Reminds me of this classic Swedish video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBtrEZpa6OQ
When a Swedish news team was out to make a story on a roundabout in Krokom, Sweden, that had been in the centre of many accidents, an accident occured in the middle of an interview. Watch the classic clip from 2002! (w/ English subtitles)
När TV4:s lokalreporter i Krokom skulle göra ett inslag om den olycksdrabbade rondellen skedde en ny olycka...
so classic its gone
I hadn't seen that one :D Nice
As far as I have heard, electricity in Sweden is currently ~€0.28/kWh? Depending on the provides it's 3-4 times that here
A drifting Volvo caught on camera photobombs live news on TV4 channel in Sweden. Breaking necks, killing egos. 'Ojojoj!' ;]
Unless my intell is wrong
about €0.36 here in scootland
Yeah that's an legendary one😀
€1.03479/kWh during the day 🥲
Also gas €4.63/m³ 🥲
just leave :^)
Probably cheaper to run a diesel generator
:)
Although we still have a fixed rate, + solar which cover our usage so we're good 😎
At least for this winter we are 😎
I need to get a turbine that doesent require planning permission
Turbine
wind will be more reliable than the sun here
Don't think I can get a turbine here
Will probably get more solar, and then when it's viable a battery
But for now that's not viable yet
I can get electricity for free anyway : ) just not at home
will just need to get a big battery
My parents pay for it so it's free anyways
Oh god
29,84 öre/kWh during it peak where I live today. Which converts to €0,024/kWh.
